He's dedicated to his students and is more than willing to help you understand anything and everything. I liked that he could give you several ways to solve any problem you brought to him, unlike other math teachers who insist on teaching things "their" way. A fun, fair and honest teacher!
I took an online physics class from him, I had also taken a class in high school so i was somewhat prepared. This was a very good online class though. He was obviously very knowledgeable about the technical aspects, because the site worked awesome, and i learned a lot and passed with a C(for an online college physics class... ill take it!)
If you ask you read the problem, then read the hint and ponder it for and hour, when you ask for help you don't want "read the hint again" It didn't help the first time, it won't help the next time. Don't take this class unless you are good with math, science, and learning out of a book.Labs are like pulling teeth with some people doingall the work
Homework was somewhat easy and all due at the end of the semester. But ask for help and expect something like "look at the problem again young padawan." or "there is an example of this problem, somewhere in the book." If you did all the homework, the final was cakewalk.
BEWARE OF THIS PROFESSOR! It is supposed to be General physics but oh my GOD The problems are so ridiculously hard i had a friend with a physics degree try to do the questions he had hell of time with them. Expect good 25-30 hours out side of class working on homework problems the prequsite for the class is math 126 but it should be something else
worst teacher i have ever had. I have taken 124 credits in college and this guy was by far the worst. Take lambert or streeper instead of this guy
This teacher was AWFUL. He assigned homework but didn't show you how to solve it until AFTER you turned it in. The Math Department is so awful, I recommend staying away from them entirely.
If not for Aleks to help us, I'm certain not a single person would've passed this class with the amount of help this professor gives you. He rarely answers you in the forum or gives you help, and requires 9 hours logged on Aleks per week, regardless of your progress. Dislike his methods a great deal.
IF YOU FOLLOW THE SYLABUS AND LISTEN WHAT HE SAYS YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM.
Poorly schedules Finals. From MATH 96 on he requires you must take two finals. First the ALEKS assessment, then the MATH Department Final. In the end your entire grade will come down to an 18 question Department Final. Due to the poor scheduling and poor communication, students have failed due to being unable to schedule two seperate finals.
Online self-paced math course. If you put in the minimum 9 hours a week, you will pass. Lars answered questions quickly with relevant examples. He will give you a warning if you are short on your hours. Procrastinate and you will not have time to take the final exams, but if you are organized and motivated you can do 2 semesters of math in 1.
Lars is a decent math teacher. He expects students to do their work. I have emailed him with a question in the wee hours of the morning and gotten a response in a few minutes. He wants to teach his students, but you cannot learn if you do not want to. That aside, the weekly WebWork assignments are horribly annoying.
DO NOT Take this teacher, he is a snooze. He also has a difficult accent that I can't quite place that distracts from everything that he says. He also makes your final test score the only score that counts. What you get on the final determines every aspect of your grade. It is too stressful
I didn't like his class at all. He dose not teach well, you have to learn it all on your own. The work you do dose not count for your final grade, but you stil have to pass all of your homework ONLINE, pass 4 tests, and pass 3 practice finals inorder to qualafy for the final. Your final grade all depends on if you pass the Department Final or not.
Avoid this professor at all costs! He is not a student friendly teacher at all. We started with a full class (30 or so?), and by the time the final came around there were under 10. Homework doesn't count towards your grade. Tests don't count towards your grade. Your entire grade is based on an 18 questions final. Do not take this professor!!
Very nice person. The class was a ton of work and at the end, we had to make a certain percentage to even QUALIFY for the final. Most of our work was done on the internet and we had to pass the PRACTICE FINAL with 3 80% grades or we couldn't take the final. What are grades for if you have to get a B three times before you can take the final.
He sucks, more than 3 absences and you fail, all of the online tests are super hard and you have to do like 4 sets of homework a night and not that any of it matters because the in class final is worth 80% of your grade. And that test is 23 questions so if you miss 2, you're screwed anyway. I truly wish that I had never taken this class.
Avoid this teacher at all cost. Mr. Lars is a very nice person and he is understanding, but he is the worst teacher ever. The homeworks do not count, the tests do not count, and the practice final he makes you take has to be completed before you take the real final which he does not prepare you for in class. This class was a waist of money.
I don't wanna say anything others. just want to say "Do not take his class, it is wasting time."
Great professor. Honestly it seemed tough but all of my friends and tutor told me he was setting me up nicely for future math. I hung in there and now I understand! He is really nice and always available to help.
Dr. Jensen is very intelligent, and very enthusiastic about math. However, I do not feel that he has any business teaching a math 95 course. He teaches fast, and sometimes his accent can be difficult to understand. I had to work my butt off for a C in 95 and I've an A in 96. If you love math you'll love this class, if not, don't take 95 with Jensen
Don't take it at all cost. Don't believe me. Just ask people around campus who took this class. They will tell ya.
He knows what he's talking about, but his accent makes it hard to understand at times.
avoid his class at all costs. All the posts saying hes good are wrong. Yes he means well and knows what hes talking about but he teaches a different form of Pre-Calculus.
Lars is a great instructor and honestly his class is fairly simple if you show up and DO THE WORK. He gives students plenty of opportunities to improve your scores on test and the online quizzes. Drops lowest Quiz, Test and 2 HW grades; if you get an A on the final then you get in A in the class no mater what you had prior. Highly recommend Lars
he gives alot of chances to improve your scores but his in class instructions are very boring and not too help full It is very hard to stay awake and focused in class. In order to do good there is alot of time having to being spent in touring center. i would not recommend taking his class
I was a little hesitant in taking his class when I read the reviews, but he honestly is a good teacher. He is actually passionate about his subject, which is hard to find these days. He can sometimes be a little hard to understand at times, but if you ask him for help he will help until you understand. You have many chances to improve your grade.
After failing math 96 once, I took it with Lars and I completely understood it! The first couple days it was hard to understand and he went kind of fast but you learn to understand. He is one of the best teachers I have had! He has you work in groups, which has your classmates help you understand and Lars would jump in and help as well.Greatclass!
It's difficult, and sometimes it's hard to understand what he wants. There are group projects and there are a lot of assignments, and the quizzes and tests are difficult. MyMathLab is a big part of it, and sometimes it doesn't even work.
Allows retakes for quizzes and tests last 3 weeks of semester for full points. Homework can be redone infinite times for 70% maximum if past due date. Plenty of retake opportunities are given. Sticks with the syllabus plan strictly.
Lars is one of my favorite teachers. He loves math and is very enthusiastic. His classes are mainly lecture with some problems to do. Homework, test, quizzes except final were online and we had multiple chances. There are group projects but can easily be done with a bad group. Make sure you take notes and stay on top of homework. Would take again.
Tests, quizzes, and homework are done online. Only thing not online is group projects and a tough final. Told us to use graphing calculators and websites all semester but didn't let us use it on the final. What you get on your final is pretty much your over all grade. Doesn't matter if you get 100% on everything else! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Do not take this class. I took it in hopes of lectures, and that he would actually teach. Class is mandatory Everything Is online except for the final. and you will end up teaching yourself. he does not lecture. he will put you in a group and make you and your group figure it out. He wont even help if asked.
If you're bad at teaching yourself, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I withdrew from this class, so I can take it with a different professor.
I was warned not to take his class but I didn't listen.
If you already have a Master Degree in math this class is right for you. I would also recommend to subscribe on youtube videos about graphing calculators, and schedule all possible appointments in tutoring center. This guy is the most horrible teacher I have ever had. If even he will be single one math teacher in the Earth-simply skip semester.
expect to do 5 hours of homework a week (add three hours if you have a test that week.) all tests and homework were online and were able to be done multiple times. all assignments open at end of semester... but totally not worth it. terrible teacher. class is worthless. advice if you have to take him? make sure you do all of your homework on time!!
The first day he said you had to lecture yourself using the book outside of class. You go to class to do problems with your group. If you have a question good luck with that. Basically he provided to help and no feedback. He did not teach in class. Has had multiple students blow up on him during class because of his lack of teaching. Final is 30%.
If you take this class, you may as well take an online class. Lars expects you to read the textbook and teach yourself the material before you come to class and then work on a group worksheet during class. He rarely lectures and when he does, he's very unclear. You learn more outside of class than in, but attendance is mandatory. Wouldn't suggest.
The worst class I have ever had. I have never struggled with math until this class. He does not teach!! He expects you to teach yourself. Class time is spent on 'Group work' where you must teach each other how to do the work. We had 2-3 homework assignments a class day. He failed me by 1% because he 'Gave too much extra credit out already'.
Lars gets negative reviews, but you just need to work at it. He expects you to put in effort yourself. He uses MyMathLab for all grades. 60% on HW, quizzes and tests to pass the class, and includes an e-textbook with your MyMathLab registration. Lots of homework, but if you skim the E-text, it becomes simpler. If you try, you'll succeed with him.
Everything is done online except for the final and group work. He gives a lot of chances to re-do work and you can take a test as many times as you want on mymathlab. He also offers extra credit to those who try. As long as you get an A on homework and tests you can fail the final and still pass.
I totally agree with previous comment. Two tips to pass this class: 1. show your interest and ask questions, 2. submit all homework IN TIME, before it's due. You will be fine even you fail finals.
He uses MyMathLab (which includes e-text), but doesn't teach! It might as well be an online class. Class is a waste of time! He's very hard to hear & understand. Plus he mumbles to himself. His group projects are very difficult. He chooses the groups and expects you to work outside of class time. Never again! Take anyone else for Math 126.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Jensen is confusing as hell, goes over an entire book chapter in ONE lecture, expects you to teach yourself, gives group projects (which he provides no feedback on) and uses MyMathLab to death. Every class, you need to do 2 quizzes and 1 HW assignment, which are on the NEXT class's material. You also pay $95 for MyMathLab.
You can tell he is very passionate about math. He expects you to come to class knowing the material before he gives his lecture. He is helpful when you ask questions but covers the material quickly. Group projects are a drag but not too bad. The final is tough, make sure you've memorized the formulas because it's closed, notes, book, and formulas.
His lectures are boring and confusing. He will breeze through material in a very fast paced manner. Mostly your assignments are through mymathlab and in order to do well you will need to be punctual and get everything done on time. For some of the tougher concepts I had to use supplemental instruction online to figure out the material.
Only assigns 3 group projects. Does not give help to anyone who asks for it. Everything but lectures are online, but the lectures are useless and don'thelp. If you're planning on taking this class, plan on teaching yourself.
Lars is a very smart professor; however, he struggles to get his ideas across verbally. The material isn't easy, but if you visit him during his office hours he will be glad to help. Most of the course is online, but attendance is still mandatory. He doesn't allow graphing calculators or formula sheets during the final, so study thoroughly!
Very difficult to understand him in class. There are at least 12 homework questions and about 6 quiz questions due for each lecture. At the beginning of the semester the class was completely full but by the end of the semester there were only 12 students because the rest dropped.
He makes you have a 60% in every category before you can take the final exam, it's not that much of a problem but when he gives you 3-4 projects with absolutely no guidance what so ever on how to do them, get ready for the most frustrating thing ever. There is also no midterm so your final is everything you learned from the start of the semester.
Good professor. He uses My Mathlab but there are group projects that are tough.
The group projects are not appropriate for this level of math. He requires you to have a 60% average in every section he grades to "qualify" to take the final. If you have below a 60% in one of those sections you automatically fail.
You have to get a 60% on the tests, quizzes, group project, and homework assignments to qualify for the final exam. The group projects were extremely difficult and didn't relate to his lectures. The 18 question final exam is very difficult too. He's a nice guy but the lectures were very boring.
If you go to class, do your work, YOU will pass. More than half of the "kids" cried the whole time. You have multiple attempts!!! Because you are lazy... It is no ones false, but... YOURS! Not a bad teacher.
Hardly even goes into depth when explaining concepts in lectures ( which is every class). Very hard to understand and moves all to quickly to grasp what he is teaching. Assigns group projects that have nothing to do with the class material. Would highly advise against taking this class. One of the worst professors I've dealt with.
GO TO CLASS. The lectures help if you follow along and do the group work afterwards. The homework, quizzes, and tests are all on mymathlab, which makes them easier to do. There are multiple group projects, go to the tutoring center to do them if you can't figure them out because they have nothing to do with the material being taught.
He puts you in random groups that you're stuck work for the entire semester. He lectures for the majority of the class, then gives you 20 minutes of group work that is completely different from the lecture. You have to have 60% across multiple categories to "qualify" for the final.
Lars does not know how to teach effectively, you'll have to teach yourself. The worst thing about this class is the group projects; no one wants to do them or understands them. He teaches matrices - I took this course in high school & matrices were not talked about AT ALL, for some reason he thinks they're important. Homework & tests are online.
He is honestly the best professor here.
Too hard on rules, not lenient. Not understanding.
Lectures didn't really help me. Spent 90% of my time in the tutoring center learning. Group projects suck. Only good part is you can redo your homework and tests as much as you want. Had a 96 in the class then I got a 50% on the final and got a B
He is the absolute worst math teacher. I do not recommend him at all. His lectures do not help you,he doesn't teach he just talks as if he's talking to himself. He occasionally answers homework questions and lectures all hour and 15 and tries to go over sometimes. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
Lars is very good at math but not good at teaching it. Despite that, what makes his class ideal is the online aspect. All tests and homework are done online with unlimited attempts. The group projects are difficult, but they too can be redone for full credit. If these areas are kept at a high score, one can fail the final and still ace the class.
There are people that are good at doing math, others are good at teaching it a select few are good at both. Lars cannot teach it. The was he trys to teach his students does not make sense. He is very quiet and even sitting in front it is still very difficult to hear.
Do not take this class 4 Projects, absolutely 0 explanation how to do them. They're sort of concepts you go over in class, but the projects ask you to apply them in ways that are incredibly difficult. Final: 60% of your grade, you can not use the calculators he forces you to buy, you will use a TI-30 Entire course is Mymathlab.
Just don't take this class period. The group projects make no sense the tutoring center even had a hard time helping us. Asked for help multiple times and he would just say re-read the question. He is very good at math but his social and teaching skills are below average. If you are already enrolled, good luck.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! There are group projects that are beyond hard and dont even apply to the math we are supposed to be learning in math 126. He assigns lots of homework, and there are TESTS DUE ON SATURDAYS. He is hard to understand and in class and does not give help that is remotely helpful. Save yourself the heart ache.
This class was unnecessarily hard. We had 2 group projects. The first one was straight forward and the second was an absolute mess. Chris at the tutoring center helped my group and he struggled with it. Our final is worth 60% of our grade. Yes, 60. So basically the rest of the semester didn't matter. I'll probably have to retake this class.
Too much work. Class includes HW, group projects, chapter tests, and requires you to study once a week off the 101 questions. he will choose 15-17 questions from those 101 questions for your final. Learn the 101 questions with closed book or you fail the class. Each HW, Project, & Test must be 60% completed in order to take final or you also fail.
literally the worst, just burn your money instead, you'll get more use out of it.
Goes on endlessly and does little examples.
Overcomplicates lessons and makes them super confusing. Group projects are confusing and not connected to what we are learning in class. I reached out for help multiple times and just became more confused. The final is 40% of your grade and difficult. This class was not worth the extra effort I put in.
just dont put yourself through his class-its not worth the stress & outcome. all homework & tests are online but final is in class & worth 40% which tanks your grade. i had a 92% coming into the final and scraped by with a 70% (in his class thats considered a B). I also went to the tutoring center & office hours twice a week. choose another teacher
He was alright. Not as bad as everyone said, I went in expecting worse. He was a bit a rude at times and would mansplain everything to you. But his group work and lectures were helpful. And he only has one test, the final which is worth 40% of your grade. You just have to put a little extra effort in to pass, but his grade is curved.
All the homeworks and tests are online so you can work at your own pace but it will pile up. You can also retake the homeworks and tests as many times as you want. There are a lot of group projects, be ready to spend your nights at the tutoring center (even the tutors struggled on the projects). Also be ready to teach yourself because he doesnt
For the final, it was important to prove you understood how to do the problems. Credit was awarded to the ability to put what was learned in class into practice. All homework and tests were online and were able to attempt to redo homework and tests unlimited times for a better score. Dropped the lowest 3 homework scores and the lowest test score.
Your whole grade is the final exam, so if you mess up or fail that you wont pass the class. Terrible way to run the class if you ask me
The basis of the entire class was individual work and passing the final. There were no grades such as homework, quizzes, tests, or extra credit. Your final score was your grade for the semester, but you were given all of the possible questions for the final as well as textbook videos and his lecture recordings. Final was super easy as well.
The only grade is the final exam which he basically gives you the answers to and the final isn't even proctored.
Great teacher.
Hes definitely not the worst math teacher ever, but his teaching style /really/ didnt work for me. I kind of ended up just being bored the entire time. In the end I had to audit the class half way through the semester so I didnt have a failing grade on my record. Avoid him if possible, but hes not the worst option, esp. if you need to go slow.
This class was amazing! Attendance was mandatory and counted for a grade, but if you have a valid excuse/ doctors note, he will excuse it. There are only 2 homework assignments a week and only 2 midterms which are both online and you get a couple of tries to redo. Overall very easy class and amazing and detailed lectures :)
He teaches that subject so close to the book that you dont even need to go to his class. But if you miss more than 4 days, he will drop your grade a letter. One of the most boring and unhappy teachers Ive seen.
Lars is a hit or miss for most people, he is great at math but explaining concepts to the fullest is not his strong suit. He uses mathlab heavily but is lenient on hw pts until worksheets due. He'll allow you to redo midterms 3 times, and see what you got wrong. The final is in person, & real similar to study guides
The professor is great! He definitely knows what he is talking about and is very lenient on assignments all throughout the semester. You get 3 tries on the midterms, unlimited tries for the homework (only 5% overall deducted past the due date), and a curve for the final. I didn't do well just cause I don't like trig, but it isn't a bad class at all
He was boring, didn't help students at all, 2 people passed the class in my grouping.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS although his class as a whole is not terrible, he made the final count for 70% of the grade. I have to take math 127 again only because I choked on the final. The grade was not curved, and he refused to lower the % of the final after being asked BY THE MATH DEPARTMENT. He obviously doesn't care if people pass or fail his class
3 Exams, no notes and no calculator. Homework is due the day after you've been taught about the chapter. Homework is on 1 chapter, have 20-40 questions and often 2-3 chapters due the same day. You get 4 absent days or you are failed. Spare yourself the hardship and stress and pick a course with a different professor! I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!
This professor is so terrible. That's all I have to say
This professor made it VERY hard to pass. I am normally pretty good at math but with his class, I failed it, which does speak volumes on his teaching and grading. Attendance is mandatory despite his lectures being unhelpful. The final was worth 60% of my grade so no amount of good work i had done previously mattered, except for the final I took.
I am usually really good at math, but this class was terrible. He would give lectures at a fast pace with little explanation. Attendance was mandatory, so much so that if you were 2 mins late he counted that as 1/2 of the 3 allowed absences before you were dropped. I withdrew from the class.
Math has always been a though subject for me, but I didn't have any issues in this class. He was always able to help me with questions and never made me feel bad for not knowing something. Attendance was a big part of the class but I thought it was important to show up anyways otherwise I wouldn't have known the material.
