One of the most intellegent professors (if not THE most) at Fresno State. Take him while you can before he leaves CSUF for Ivy League. Witty and wise, helpful and understanding.
The best professor I've had at state. If you are not interested in the subject he is teaching then he can be boring because he really delves into it. If you are interested then he's the best.
Best professor I've ever had at state! Go to class and pay attention, and you'll be fine. Very kind and helpful with questions...loves when students get involved and discuss. Offers lots of extra credit for attending "pub quizzes", which are super fun!
The Best teacher at state. He will take your intelligence to a whole other level. If you're not interested in the subject then you will hate him
By far the best teacher at State! He requires a lot from you; tons of reading and essays. There is an upside ? No Test! He is a great teacher and you will learn a lot.
if its for GE than hes amazingly boring, he talks with no powerpoint or anything, tests are all online though including the final! very easy class just impossible to pay attention
Great teacher! You may be confused by his accent the first week but you'll get used to it. I used to hate history but professor Maischak approaches the subject in a new and innovative way and I have an almost perfect A. Take him!
Very knowledgable about the material. Encourages group discussion and gets involved by probing multiple angles of the subject matter. He does not use power points or boring outlines. No tests, but lots of reading/essays. Do the work and his class will be quite fruitful.
Really really knowledgeable about history. It is a great class, but each day is worth points so don't miss. Extra plus he doesnt use a textbook. The Kennel bookstore says he does but dont buy it you will waste your money and have to return it.
Great professor, doesn't use a textbook, and is a fairly easy class. Online reading assignments and worksheets due on Monday, lecture and online quiz on Wednesday, and a group writing assignment on Fridays. I never liked history before this class, but Dr. Maischak made it way more interesting! Take this class!
Great class, he really knows what he is talking about. The lectures can be pretty boring sometimes but endurable.
the easiest class i have ever taken. we got the answers for the midterm and the final before hand.
Good, simple class. Follows a routine schedule: take an online quiz on a reading before Monday noon, Monday discuss reading, Wednesday lecture, before Friday noon take quiz on lecture, Friday group work. Super easy. He is German so he has an accent but there is no textbook, midterm, final or essay! Very knowledgeable about history!!
Professor is very nice and understanding. Very easy class, some readings, 2 quizes and 1 group work a week, and absolutely NO MIDTERM AND FINAL!!
The class is based on routine. There's reading a quiz, a lecture, then a quiz on the lecture, along with some group work. If you go to class and read what he gives you, it's an easy class. I was about seven points from having an A and he bumped it up for me. You'll get used to his accent, and he's actually kind of funny.
His accent may be troubling at first, however, you'll get used to it. He's very intelligent, helpful, and funny. At first, the class may seem extremely hard, but if you understand the way he teaches you, follow the "routine", and come to class for notes on lecture days, you'll pass. Without a doubt, he's definitely an excellent professor.
Easy class but hard to understand the professor when he speaks. There are online quizzes, group work, and a final.
Really Really good teacher! Yes the class is tedious and very routine, but easy if you just do the weekly readings he posts on blackboard. Also attendance is crucial, I surprisingly kinda miss this class lol
Had this prof in a large class and I could barely hear him. If you pay close attention to his lectures and do the readings then you'll do well. However, I find his lectures so hard to pay attention. Maybe it's his tone of voice? Idk. But I like the no book & no midterm policy though.
hard to understand all test r online... NO BOOK IS NEEDED :)
Fairly easy class. Dr. Maischak was very funny and you get used to the accent. Not the most interesting class, but he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit so passing with an A was easy. You have 2 online quizzes every week and weekly readings. They're tough, but manageable. I'd recommend him.
extremely easy class. this is the class to take to get an easy a. you have two quizzes per week and a reading also. a fairly easy paper is due in nov. his lectures are boring due to the fact of his accent and because its history lol
no book needed. Really easy. He has a german accent, but that isnt a problem :)
Great professor, lectures are pretty boring just because of the subject. But there was a quiz every week and a group writing assignment every Friday that was easy if you dissected the questions and had somewhat paid attention. Was a very personable and pretty funny guy. No textbook required.
I am typically a dunce when it comes to History, but Professor Maischac makes it interesting by stressing an understanding of the concepts behind the history, as opposed to a litany of memorization of names and dates. We studied historical texts instead of a textbook, which was refreshing and realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and style.
Very easy going professor, and pretty easy class. Mostly everything is online! Even your final! :)I got a B and barely tried. Go to class because attendance is part of your grade.
The class is obviously easy, But I dislike how he made attendance part of your grade. That's ridiculous... He's very dull and boring and has an intolerable monotone voice. Some of our online homework reading is incredibly long and inconsequential to our learning. I feel as if he did not put effort into those questions. Did not like...
The lectures are boring, but other than that the class is pretty easy :) All you have to do is the weekly quizzes and group work and you'll pass with an A. He also offers extra credit.
Simple, direct, and to the point. One of the easiest general education courses one can take. Everything is online without time limit which alows one to take the course at one owns pace. He is a great person and enjoyable as a professor. Take him and you will have much time to spend in the restof your classes.
Doctor Maischak is awesome! Highly recommend this dude. Go to the tutoring center for extra credit so you can coast on by for that A+ ;)
Attendance is mandatory. Readings are assigned everday, should be read before class (will be discussed in groups during class)Online quizzes due on readings before class can be opened multiple times, no time limit on them. At the end of the week one is due after class. One paper and final is online and not timed.
Maischak is a really cool person and his accent is something you get used to pretty quick. No textbook needed because he teaches via texts and ppts. Take your time on the online assignments, go get "tutoring" in the Learning Center, and participate in class and it'll be painless. No individual paper, but you will have group work. Highly Recc'd.
Quizzes are online and pretty simple if you take your time. There is group work which is pretty easy because its based on lectures and he grades easy. He is boring though
Quizzes on line easy if you take your time. Group work easy too based on lectures and he grades easy. He is boring though
Such an easy class. Teacher is really care free about grades and stuff. Class is mostly online quiz & group essays. Lectures can be boring if you don't care. He is liberal-minded so I liked his perspective but if you're conservative he can be annoying. You don't use any textbook as well. For GE requirement it doesn't get any easier than this
Nice guy, very laid back. I can text right in front of him and he doesn't even care. A worksheet every week on bb, on a reading that he post. Its easy. No test! If you need an easy GE class take this one. But it is boring.
TAKE HIM!!!!! Everything is basically online, go to class because he will take attendance randomly. Honestly, do what he asks- bring in 3 typed Qs every Tuesday, finish your online worksheet before class and every now and then you'll take a quiz on the lecture(really easy and fair Qs) all online and it's an easy A!
Maischak is a good teacher. His German accent is something that you can get used to as the semester rolls by. He gives one worksheet that's due every week and all his work is done online. Go to class 'cause he takes attendance randomly. For a GE requirement, this class can't get any easier.
Great class if you dont plan on buying book, but hard to keep up sometime if you ave 5 classes or more and tend to forget about this class hwk. Which I did not but almost at some point. The presentation is not hard if you are not nervous.
Good professor, easy class. No textbook required, there's a weekly assignment and short quiz that isn't bad as long as you don't procrastinate. No tests, no midterm, and the final was online and we had 3 days to take it. Super easy class.
Good: he's very flexible and isn't really strict when grading your major works (such as the project and paper). No textbook required. Bad: very boring. I also didn't like how he doesn't teach us till after we take a quiz every week on the subject. Tip: go to the TUTORIAL every week and volunteer in class discussions.
The class was easy. No textbook but you didn't learn anything. He doesn't teach the material very well and I learned absolutely nothing. He isn't very fair. During the group project we had a member that screwed up on his part. The rest of us got punished. Overall, I believe he isn't a good professor at all.
Easy but boring class. He does not really teach until after you take the quiz. 3 questions are due every week. Go to tutoring you can receive 40 extra credit points very helpful. i received an A in the class.
SOOO BORING! There is almost no point in going to class other than he takes attendance. Most people just text or take selfies during class. He gives boring readings and a group project with a long paper after. I feel that I have not learned a damned thing in his class. Probably a great guy, can't teach his way out of a paper bag.
REALLY easy and laid-back professor. Just do the online homework and you'll get an A for sure. Yeah his accent is thick and monotone but you'll eventually get used to it. He gives plenty of extra credit for going to the learning center so take that chance! I don't think there's any other professor for History that's as easy as Maischak.
Groups present once a week and he lecturesgoes over that week's quiz the rest of the week. Absolutely no tests otherwise. No final. If you don't mind working with a group this class is fine, but if you're against groups, do yourself a favor and don't take this class. The professor is boring and monotonous. Found myself wanting to fall asleep a lot
Hardly takes attendance, u don't do anything literally. EX: I took T-TH class, Tuesday sat there doing nothing Thursday watched a group present Only thing 2do: read a paper online 10question quiz b4 Tues class 1 group Presentation & paper He's hard 2 understand at 1st then u get used 2 his accent And NO FINAL :) and NO TEXTBOOK.
If you aren't a history lover, don't worry. This class is definitely an easy A considering the amount of extra credit he offers when you go to the learning center. His class is structured in a straightforward manner with one worksheet due each week (not super challenging). He doesn't grade harshly on the presentation as long as you invest effort.
Lars accent is heavy but after a couple of classes it becomes easier to understand him. His class consist of online homework ( can be a bit difficult), a midterm, a group project and an essay. The class is very easy if you attend tutoring. There's no text book required !!
Yeah it's boring but it's a super easy class. All you do is the online homework, which isn't long, and a presentation. He'll give you extra credit if you go to the learning center for tutoring. His accent is thick but that's not a problem.
Attendance is mandatory. There is a roll call sheet. Make sure your presentation group is willing to work. Weekly quizzes are easy as long as you attended his lectures.
Professor Maischak is great! He's very clear on all of his assignments. He's a very easy grader. There's one group project with a group essay that he's alway willing to help you on. As long as you show up to class and pay attention you'll most definitely get an A.
Presentation every week, if not then he lectures. He is a very patient person, although his lectures can be boring, its very interesting. basically just pay attention, no book, just print out ppt on bb. attendance not mandatory. quizzes due every week before class. its basically the same thing every week. didnthate the class but didnt like it too.
His accent was pretty bad, I didn't get use to it like many other people have said and couldn't focus so much. Nonetheless, he was a good professor. He jokes here and there. His weekly tests have extra credit points on it. There is one 2-3pg paper and a final. Overall, very easy class.
one quiz a week that's taken online. one group project, one final. he does take attendance! this is a pretty easy class, i would definitely recommend taking this class for a GE.
His lectures a pretty boring unless you are an active learner. He makes history relatable. He gives you raw documents that are sometimes hard to read but if you go to tutoring (for extra credit) it is easy. The on-line quizzes are easy, the final is easy, you have to do one short essay, and a group presentation.
HE IS REALLY BORING BUT SOMETIMES THE TOPICS ARE INTERESTING. DO YOUR EXTRA CREDIT. THE PRESENTATION IS NOT THAT HARD, IT'S INFORMATIONAL BUT LIKE TAKE IT SERIOUS. PEOPLE WILL ASK QUESTION AND ANSWER IT THE BEST WAY NOT THE STUPID WAY. HONESTLY MY GROUP WAS TERRIBLE AT COMMUNICATING BUT HE GAVE THEM FULL POINTS WHEN I TOLD HIM THEY DIDN'T HELP.
Super difficult and has set due dates in the MIDDLE of the week for an online class, every week starting sunday you watch a 2 hour lecture, take a test on the lecture, then read articles he assigns and test on that. Sounds like a piece of cake but his accent is HEAVY and his test questions are difficult.. save yourself.
super easy online course! Don't get me wrong, you do have to do the work but it's honestly not bad. The reading assignments can be a bit difficult to understand and you have a quiz each week but he does offer extra credit and there is a group presentation with a 15 page paper.
Do not take this class with this professor. I took an online class because I needed a flexible schedule but this class made that impossible. Every week there is at least one article reading, a LONG lecture video of himself, a required commentary on a group project video that everyone in class has to do. I'm warning you now, this was ridiculous
Easy to pass online class, yet semi-hard to get an A. Only need to devote about an hour or two per week for work, yet the quizzes can be rather confusing as a lot of the questions tend to be poorly worded or opinion based. Has a thick accent and is somewhat hard to understand (along with being rather monotone), resulting in a pretty boring lecture.
I would not advise anyone to take this class. Many times I questioned if I was even taking a history class. There are some extra credit opportunities, take it. Especially if you have a horrible quiz week. A lot of work and sometimes not clear at all. Not a fan of the group project or having other students grade commentaries. Do not take this class.
Worst choice for Hist 12. Never in my life have I been so stressed over a GE course. Each week consists of an ungodly amount of reading from his selected articles, followed by a 10 question quiz due every Wednesday at noon. Each question is subjective and is impossible to google. Each week is more difficult than the last. DO NOT TAKE.
Don't take Lars for History 11 online. Group project when it's an online class. Majority of the groups did not do their work. Also, he said that he'll provide the readings for all of us so we don't have to buy anything. But for my group he told us to buy the book when he provided readings for the other group. HEAVY writing & lecture. Quiz on Lect.
His class was too demanding for an online GE class. Confusing test questions and reading materials. Assigned a group presentation, which defeated the purpose of taking an online class. Was a tough grader on the presentation. If you want an A, be prepared to work very hard for it. His class had me extremely stressed out all semester.
Nice & approachable prof. If you want an A, then you have to work for it! There's weekly quizzes, discussions, and readings. Manage your time & work on it ahead of time instead of procrastinating. Work with someone/your group. If you do well on the weekly assignments & presentation, then you don't need to take the final. He also offers a lot of EC!
Surprisingly received an A, but this online class is very time consuming. Suggest to work with a friend, lecture quizzes and worksheets were pretty tough because of the way the questions were worded looking up stuff would not help, but easy points on weekly fourm posts if you just meet the word count which is 750 words. Have to give a lot of effort
Minimal extra credit. He is very understandable, a few times I accidentally pressed on the wrong weeks quiz and he willing reset them for me with no questions asked. Nice professor but lots of work, if your wanting to take this class for extra time just take an in class one, took more time out of my day than any other class did. Do not slack
u can't understand what he says, his accent is very difficult to understand. he lectures heavily and there are weekly quizzes which are totally different from what he lectures. very few extra credit opportunity. have to do a group presentation and weekly update forums about what you understood about that weeks lecture. very hard professor.
Make sure to do well on your group project its almost 40% of grade. Super long and boring lectures for quizzes and assignments no quizlet answers make a study group and do the assignments together.
To be honest, I would have preferred taking an actual class. His course was easy, but he just had a lot of busy work, more than what I had in my regular classes at school. It was nice to have this online class since I had a packed schedule. You just have to stay on top of yourself. Work ahead on his assignments, just don't forget the deadlines!
Lectures are extremely long and quizzes are weirdly specific sometimes. His accent was a little hard to understand especially on some days when he didnt have captions on. group project was what saved my grade so do well on that. One thing I really liked about him was: he was easy to contact and how he gave you second chances if you reach out 1st
Upper G.E. was easier than this course. It is extremely time consuming and tedious. I took this course because it was online. Course consists of weekly posts of 750 words, and a group presentation (defeating the purpose of a digital course), 1 midterm, 1 final, 3 quizzes. Accent may make it difficult to understand him. Just take a different prof.
Every week you will have to post forums 250 words each on presentation, lectures, and assigned reading. Most lectures are at least an hour long, very boring and hard to understand his accent. You will have to do group presentation(100 points).Midterm is 20 and final is 50 which isn't too bad. Do your forum posts, reading & you will pass this course
I took 7 classes this semester, so I took this one online. So it's not a hard class, you just have to do the work. There's 750 minimal word forums every week on reading, lecture, presentations (and he does read what you post). Then there are weekly quizzes that aren't easy, he creates his questions. And there is a group presentation, do it right!!
He is such a cool professor, talk to him though. Really easy to get into contact with, he cares a lot. If you're in a situation and can't do the forum for the week, just let him know! The group project was easy, I got 100% Same for the forums, on everything it'll require a certain amount of words or time, but he doesn't care! Just have good info.
He is a very understanding teacher but I do not recommend taking his online course. Lectures were often confusing and difficult to find answers. (No quizlets accessible)
As a freshman, I didnt know what I was doing and I thought his class couldnt be that bad since its only history. WRONG! Hes a nice guy but very hard to understand and hes not great at explaining what he wants in assignments. His lectures do not help for the weekly quizzes and the entire class is doing so bad on all the quizzes. So much reading
There is one group project you have to do where you make a slide presentation and do a voice over for it with your group members. You can choose your group members or he will assign you to a group. There is a weekly discussion board and the exams are all online.
The lectures and the weekly quizzes do not match. Group assignment is a large portion of your grade, but the weekly quizzes add up. The only way for you to score well is to ask the professor questions about the quiz the day before. Most of his history lectures pertain to HIST11, even though this is a HIST 12 course. Do not recommend.
Love Dr. Maischak! He really loves what he does. Doesn't take attendance, but does only accept hard copies of homework. Super bland lectures though. No tests or quizzes, just short easy essays. No textbook! He really is willing to work with students when they're confused. I think he's an amazing professor!
At the beginning of the semester, I HATED Maischak and wanted to get out of his class, but I stuck it through and ended up liking him/his class. There are lectures, readings, and quizzes. The quizzes are sort of hard because he makes them himself, but he is quick to help you if you reach out to him. If you like history, you'll like him.
Professor Maischak has an accent which sometimes can be difficult to understand during lectures. Pay attention to his lectures because there is a quiz every Sunday on his lectures. The work in his class focuses on lots of group projects. Make sure you pick a trustful group so you won't get to do the big project by yourself.
The worksheets are hard. Some of the questions are tough even if you read the worksheets. There is no book to purchase or attendance is not mandatory although it will help you understand the topic. there is a group presentation if done well or exceed he gives you extra credit. But grade is mostly dependent on worksheets.
Lectures do not match up with quizzes, and quizzes are often hard due to convoluted texts and quiz questions. Your only resources are the documents given to you, and it can be hard to find resources out of class. I learned nothing about American history, as all his work was based off of Europe's impact on America.
Dr. Maischak has a thick accent in which it is hard to comprehend. As a person, he is a nice guy and will joke around. However, as a professor, his lectures are all over the place. And the worksheets/ quizzes on canvas are difficult. Every week in class, you do a group essay and will come up with a presentation once. Dont understand? Email him.
Insightful knowledge about American History.
Lars was an okay professor. I wouldn't take him again if I had to. He has a very thick accent. That made his lectures difficult to understand. I had this class during Fall 2020. He made all his tests and quizzes. Gives extra credit if you attended the learning center. So you need to read and ask as many questions if you want to pas the class.
Lars is one of the best professors I took this semester! He doesn't usually give midterms OR finals. He is so funny and he gives you time to do your work. He gives extra credit opportunities. So understanding if there is a inconvenience. He gives you a week to do the reading, watch his lecture and do worksheets. VERY lenient on his grading.
Each week a group will present about the week's topic. The other groups will have to write a very short essay about that topic. Because it's in groups you're able to split up that work between each other which made things easier. The quizzes were definitely difficult but just pay attention and you'll be ok. Graded off points, not percentage.
Prof. Maischak is pretty chill. He has weekly assignments that are due Fridays. There's only one group project for the whole semester, so choose wisely. His accent isn't even that bad. He cracks jokes and attendance isn't mandatory besides Friday for the group essay (1 pg). Just read what he assigns and take the Canvas test. Would def take again :)
There is a group project. The central part of the grade is the weekly reading assignments with a worksheet (quiz). There are group essays every Friday. There is a final, but the study guide did not correlate to the questions. Overall visited the tutoring to get extra credit because that's how my grade went higher.
There is a group project for this class, but its just one for the entire semester. Every week, there is a quiz that goes along with the reading and every week there is a different topic. On the last day you have him for class, there will be weekly group essays due in class about another group's project topic. Lectures aren't related to quizzes.
It was highly structured, very clear what we were covering. The assignments were very structured. (Example: Monday was no class, just time to review the material, reading and recorded lecture, Wednesday was a group presentation, Friday was a group essay). A lot of group work, but not a tough grader. It was labor movement pov of history tho.
he was a good professor as a person, but his grading criteria were incomprehensible. a lot of my classmates and I struggled with his exams. we would get tutors and still answer a lot wrong. the class average for the weekly tests is not high at all.
I liked the structure of this class. The group you choose in the beginning will be the group you work in all semester, your group will present your topic once. Weekly quizzes with most answers from assigned readings (also leaves time for review questions), weekly group essays that you do in class friday. Not a bad class at all but group oriented.
Professor Maischak was a fairly good professor. There was a weekly worksheet due that was difficult sometimes but if you attended class (which few did) he would go over answers and you could answer it then. He doesn't care about attendance but the only time you need to show up is for your group project that you only have once.
While Prof. Maischak can be hard to understand at times, he's a caring instructor. The class has lots of group work, so pick your team wisely. I found Unstuck study and the free textbook useful for studying.
Dr. Maischak's class isn't too bad, but he doesn't lecture in class, so classes tend to be extremely boring. Lectures are posted on YouTube. Coursework isn't too bad either, there's a weekly homework assignment and a group essay, which is graded by a group of students each week. Usually they're pretty lenient so it's basically free points. Not bad.
Professor Maischak is a great professor. The only thing I did not enjoy in his class was how I could barely understand what he was saying half of the time! But this is because of his accent. There's a lot of reading assignments and quizzes link to it. I recommend the learning center! It's great for this class!
His expectations are very clear and there is a group project. Don't slack and keep up with your work. He really tries to make the material easy to understand. Keep up with the group project and get it done or else you might miss it. He isn't there to guide you through every step but you can message him if you need help.
Does his best to break content down to help us understand, helps that he can be witty. There is one group presentation and one group essay every friday but if you're listening to his lectures like podcasts its not hard.
