He really cares about teaching but by the tenth time he cried in class i wante d to kill myself.
Amazing teacher! Bro. Duque is very passionate about his classes and has a strong testimony. Take him if possible!!!
Didn't keep students interested
His assignments are pointless. This is a methods class and we never practiced teaching! He does tons of work from the text book that will be meaningless once you leave that class. Not a good learning or teaching experience!
I don't think he even knows what the purpose of a methods class is! A pointless waste of time!
Avoid this teacher at ALL COSTS!! His class is full of busy work and it seems that he is constantly trying to prove how important he is by using his title of "Dr." If you want to be bored out of your mind every single day of class then take him! In his defense he is a nice person but as a teacher he is horrible!
Syllabus stupid and hard to follow. Knows his stuff, but a college classroom just isn't the best place for him. His home work would take me 4 hours for the 2 credit math methods. His response to "my home work takes too long" was, "I could do it in two hours." Assessment strategies seriously messed up. Only feed back is, "Go deeper and broader"
At first I had a hard time keeping up with him really understanding what he expected of his students. Once I understood how he works the class was really fun and very helpful. I love the text book he uses. He has a way of teaching things that you will always remember, not just take a test on and forget. He is a very nice guy!! Take him!
I took math methods and also his education diversity class online and loved it!i highly recomend him. His work is challenging but very possible. I actually did math methods in a week and a half of allnighters when I was teaching during the day and had TB and no electricity, so yeah...very doable
I took his online Cult Diversity Class. It was a really good class and wasn't too hard. Going into it I was scared b/c of other ratings I saw. But his online class was great. I would do more online classes if they were like this one!
I took him for the el ed practicum... i am an ECSE major but we had to have hte class. Anyways it was the worst class. He is supposed to make it less work for the ECSE majors because they get less credits but he doesn't. I would avoid taking his class if your ECSE because it is not related to early childhood at all and it is so time consuming.
I took his Cult and Div class and I really liked it. I feel like I learned so much. We had to write a 13-15 page research paper and it wasn't bad at all. It felt great to relate other things to education. His class takes work, but that's expected. Don't go to college if you want a free ride. :)
Duque is not an easy teacher, nor is he very understanding. He makes you feel like you are not smart enough to exist in his presence. Also, be prepared to be treated like you are ten again. I don't really like being so blunt, but the truth is, he is hard, and he is arrogant.
He talks to you like you're in elemantary school again. The class is very repetitive. It should be a useful class but the way he delivers the lesson is super boring. He uses to many slides during class which didn't help me learn anything. It always seemed that everything he said was right out of the book.
I took him for Math Methods and I didn't like it at all. It was a waste of time taking the class from him. I didn't learn much. And, he thinks that he's so high and mighty because he's a "professor." Also, he is very unreasonable. If you take his class, be prepared to be treated like a child and not respected.
Find a different teacher.
I had Duque for Methods and I found everything I learned from his class to be helpful and relevant. His class was challenging but in a motivating way. Let me add I aced student teaching and had a few wonderful years teaching 2nd grade outside the Mormon bubble and I constantly referred to my notes and textbooks.
I don't think I learned one thing all semester. This class is very repetitive.
I hated everything about this class. Avoid this professor!!!! I know there are some classes that he only teached, but prepare yourself for the most awful hours of your life. Hes not helpful, hes not interesting and every class is a carbon copy of the one before.
Math methods is to help us be good teachers to our students but he is the worst example. He gets angry when a question is asked and refers you to the book. Makes you not want to ask questions. He doesn't teach, just expects students to teach themselves from reading the book. Acts high and mighty. I will never take another class from him.
Wonderful teacher. I am so glad I had classes with him. You have to work...notice there are alot of lazy students who give him low marks..but trust me he is awesome, I learned so much.
he is a GREAT tennis coach! fun, understanding, puts time into teaching everyone individually, and loves to play games! he's an awesome guy!
If you want to be a great teacher take his senior pract. class. It is hard, but well worth it. I was very well prepared for my student teaching in Las Vegas and was successful because of this class. This class will help you really grow and be ready for student teaching and the real world. Complaints are always present when things are challenging.&#
Had him for Math Methods. Stay away! The concepts he teaches are good; the way he teaches them is bad! It's a two credit class, but the workload is a four to five credit class. He does not like questions, always referring you to the book. He does not necessarily practice what he preaches. He nearly burned me out before I even started teaching.
I had brother Duque for Methods prior to student teaching. I could have done better without a professor. He does get angry if you ask questions, especially if e feels you are questioning his authority. His directions are unclear. He used an example in class of a project. Then, he put the example on the website, apparently the example was worth a C.
Way too much work for a 2 credit class. When you meet his guidelines you get a C. to get a B you have t go over and beyond his guidelines to get A go over and beyond the B. Doesnt get that we wont only be math teachers.
I had Dr Duque for ECSE kindergarten practicum. He requires a LOT of busy work, and he is really repetitive. He uses the textbooks religiously. I love the type of constructivist teaching he teaches us to use, but he WILL NOT answer our questions and expects us to be experts.
His classes aren't hard. They are just filled with unclear memorization and busy work. The things I learned I taught myself. And he really does get mad if you ask questions, it's bizarre. He's unorganized and repetitive. Stay away if you can.
My favorite teacher of all time! He was so willing to work with me. When I had questions he would get down on the floor and show me how to do it. He knew what he was talking about. He is not super easy but I learned way more from his class than any other class I have had. I felt like he cared about me and my success. I love Brother Duque!
A professional class of a teacher practicing what he teaches. He asks thought provoking questions. Allows everyone to answer. Gives a lot of work but with the repetition, you will be more prepared as a teacher. He enjoys tennis and bow ties. Do the work and you will be fine.
If you have an extra 6 hours every night to complete the repetitive pointless homework that he assigns, then maybe this is the right class for you. His assignment expectations are unclear, and he becomes upset when they are questioned, and doesn't answer you. Good guy, bad teacher. Condescending too.
Worst teacher on the face of the planet. Look for someone else. His 2 credit class was a joke. He made us write 2 15 page papers. I was not impressed at all. He is very repetitive. I am an El Ed major and he only taught us about how to teach high school kids. What a joke!
Brother Duque is a great teacher. He does expect a lot of writing but gives you plenty of time to complete the research paper. He also gives a rubric so you know exactly what he expects from the assignment. I loved his class!
I had lots of struggles during the semester I had him and he was more than willing to help EVERY time. He does NOT get mad when asked questions; that's what he WANTS us to do to learn. His expectations for assignments are clear. Helps you see how to better your ideas and how simple lessons can be and how far you can go with them. You'll learn a lot
A 2 credit class that he turns into 4+ credit work. lots of writing & you better know APA format perfectly. Easier to be a mindless drone spouting quotes from the reading material than to have your own opinions in this class. He is the only professor available for this class & Math methods. good luck :(
Worst class I have ever taken. Way too much work for a two credit class. He is rude and condescending; takes every chance he can to flaunt that he has a master's degree. Demands participation and then makes fun of you when you talk or ask questions. Worst teacher I have ever had. Avoid at any cost.
Boring, confusing, worthless, and an absolute load of crap. Maybe if I had taken it from someone else it would have been better, but I doubt it. Avoid if at all possible.
HORRIBLE AND RUDE! Not only was his workload ridiculous but his condescending attitute made me feel helpless all semester long. I spent about 4 hours each night on his math papers and when I asked him questions he would act like I was an idiot. Very hypocritical since he is supposed to teach us how to treat and work with children..
Awful teacher. Constantly harped on me to speak my mind but then heavily criticized me in front of the class in a very intimidating manner whenever I did. Grading was inconsistent and the way he lead classroom discussion was repetitive and close-minded. He asked open ended questions on a daily basis but got visably upset when I agree with him.
He is a great teacher! He has a great personality and absolutely loves helping his students out! You have to do work, but it isn't very difficult. If you show up then it's easy. You have to do a final paper at the end, which isn't hard at all! Take him, he is great. He's a great teacher.
Disregard any negative comments about Dr. Duque. His course isn't easy; it is work. If you want a teacher who doesn't push you or help you, I'd find another instructor. Dr. Duque is the most qualified instructor at this school over this content area. If you know how to work, his class will be a constant benefit for your education. The dude rocks.
Brother Duque is one of the best teachers I have had at BYU-I. He is extremely helpful and he really makes you think. He tries to get you to think outside the box. He is not an easy teacher, but he makes you teach in a different way. If you work hard, you will learn a lot. It is fairly easy to get an A. He is very helpful. Brother Duque rocks!
You get out what you put in. If you have questions or want things looked at, Duque will always have his door open to help. Some people get really mad at his teaching style because he challenges you to stand up for what you believe and defend it rather than just accept the teacher's word as fact. Its a heavy class for so few credits, but worth it.
He is about making you think about how you teach. He strives to make you think differently than you did before entering his classroom. These are good things since people claim to always want to improve. A lot of people bad mouth him because they don't like his personality. For me, he went out of his way to help me learn and grow. One of the best!
Brother Duque is an excellent teacher, who is very knowledgeable and passionate about multicultural education. I went in with low expectations for this class, but Brother Duque really changed my perspective. I ended up learning a lot and loving the class. He is fun, and fair, and I would take him again, but be warned he expects you to work.
Grades super inconsistent and isn't willing to answer questions AT ALL
I wouldn't recommend Brother Duque to anyone. He tells you that we need to learn to be teachers that make students feel comfortable asking questions and teach them that there is more than one way to do things, but you better do it his way or he'll get mad. He also gets offended if you ask questions. Pretty much he wants you to read his mind. AWFUL.
Doesn't offer any clarification. Provides feedback in writing that you can't decipher (and he does it on purpose). Doesn't tell you when anything is due. Extremely unhelpful and will get frustrated with you for asking questions. He is also a hypocrite in classroom structure. If you write any paper just add lots of quotes from his texts for an A.
Brother Duque is not going to give you an easy grade, but the values and concepts you will learn in his class are invaluable and worth the work. Brother Duque models what he teaches. For example, in his Culture and Diversity course he does well at creating a multi-cultural, understanding, and respectful environment. I appreciate his methods a lot!
Brother Duque is an awesome instructor and I have never learned so much in a class before. The information you learn in this class will be essential to you as a future educator. If you are unsure about something, ask. Dont take anything personally. He cares about his students. Buy the book and keep it. It will be of good use in the future.
He was the rudest teacher I have ever had. Very prideful and does not care about his students. He is not helpful at all and treats you like a little bad child. He yells at you for the most idiotic things. He has made many students cry and it's like he enjoys doing it. He docs you points on assignments and then won't talk to you about why he did.
Bro Duque is not very engaging, but if you are studious you will have an easy-A. I had a hard time with attendance and it made me behind on notes which effects the essays you have to write. I was honestly pretty bored. I recommend taking your laptop to class and taking notes on your Concept map, that will help.
Prof. Duque is an amazing Professor! He sincerely shows passion for multiculturalism! Aiming to end with racism and stereotyping! One of the best Porfessor on campus!!!
He is very big on class discussion, so don't expect much lecture. He also encourages mixing and mingling. There isn't a lot of homework (just a couple papers) but take them seriously, they'll help you later.
Brother Duque is a great instructor and he is very helpful. Many of the rating here do not do him justice. There is a lot of reading and pondering required, but it is very helpful. Does not assign busy work. Everything you read or talk about in class in applied.
Do NOT take math methods from him. He makes it seem like his expectations are attainable, when they are completely unrealistic. It is impossible to get an A on anything. His handwriting and feedback is a joke. He encourages you to ask questions, yet puts you down and makes you feel like an idiot when you do. I have never felt so disrespected.
You would think that teachers would look on this website to see what students say about them, and maybe change something according to the comments. Half of our class is failing and he doesn't take any responsibility for it. He is probably the worst teacher I have had in all of college. He is condescending and rude. Stay far away, whatever you do..
Brother Duque is as real as it gets. I am currently teaching in Georgia and his class is probably the most realistic version of what teaching is. Teaching is not easy and it is non-stop work. Him pushing us is to perform at higher levels is probably one of the biggest favors he does. I resented him then, but honor him now. Wish I could type more!
We have been talking about the same thing in class since day 1 and the semester has 3 weeks left. His class is very boring and repetitive. He makes it sound like the sky is the limit with assignments, but then he is very strict grading on things that were never mentioned. He is a nice guy, but he is very difficult to learn from.
I am overwhelmed with the readings for this class. There are regularly hour long videos we must watch along with the videos.
I am pretty sure he is the rudest professor I have ever had the disservice of meeting. He is condescending. He never gives anything to you straight. He wouldn't even tell us about our final. You could never ask him a question either without him asking one. He doesn't have respect for his students. There are better professors to teach this class.
I had him for multiple classes back in to 2009-2010. Amazing teacher, helped me realize my potential as a teacher. His expectations are harder, but it is worth it when you get out into the teaching field.
I don't know what everyones problem is with this guy. This was a solid class and I felt like I actually learned how to teach math. Yeah you have to work for it but its a 400 level class. He was very nice and respectful. You just have to try and it will be worth your time. He lets you redo all the assignments and you take quizzes as a group.
This is the worst professor I've ever had to take a class from. Unfortunately he is the only one who offers two specific classes. He is rude, he treats you like your a child, he purposely writes illegibly on your graded papers, forcing you to come talk to him. He only answers questions with other questions. Super confusing. Would not take again.
This class is so useful but he does not explain things well AT ALL. He says to check the instructions on assignments and they are always vague and confusing. He isn't very open to asking questions. His class is fast pace and stresses a lot of people out. Everything is go go go. It's not a hard class... its just stressful. Good luck!
He's the teacher who: will make you read and write like crazy, quiz you over things he doesn't teach, has ridiculously high expectations you can never achieve, is not available to help you, is very particular about the way things are done (insomuch you will fail if you don't follow his guidelines EXACTLY).
I have never met a more condescending man. He embarrassed me multiple times in class. His grading is not consistent. I could show him an assignment and he would tell me it looks great. The next day I could show him the same assignment and he would tell me a million things I did wrong. His directions ARE NOT clear. Doesn't like questions at all.
Brother Duque's class is frustrating honestly. There are things in the readings that are never discussed in class that you are expected to know. I am not really sure what I was expected to learn in this class, but I don't feel like I've learned much of anything.
Duque is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about. He can be rude about things if you ask him questions during instructional time. He gives you quizzes on the reading and they are not easy. Although, he does repeat a lot of those ideas. Overall, if you do the work EXACTLY how he says it you will pass.
Although I would never take an elective class from him, the classes I did take from him were amazing. You learn a lot from him even though your learning is based on the work you put into the class. Some of his gradings are weird but he really wants you to succeed as a student whether in his class or in life. Don't be afraid to ask him questions.
Brother Duque is incredible! He keeps you actively involved and developed within me a love for education and helping others. He makes you work, but is willing to help you along the way. I always looked forward to going to class and I feel like I learned things I will carry with me for the rest of my career. He wants us to be successful !
I love Brother Duque! He is always willing to work with you and truly wants to do all that he can to help you succeed. He makes class fun and has a lot of hands on opportunities. He knows what he is talking about since he has had so much experience in the field. You have to work hard, but that's because he wants you to be prepared for the field.
The reading is ridiculous at times and even when you thoroughly read, his quizzes don't always match. He was never condescending to me, but he was towards many other students. He grades everyone differently as well--even when the processes and answers are exactly the same. I can honestly say I walked away not learning anything in this class.
Overall, I really enjoyed this class. I believe that it was just the subject that was a bit repetitive. There are dailies that you have to do and type out for each day of class. These at times are long readings and do take time to complete (do not leave these to the last minute). Few group projects and no tests. Participation is key.
Brother Duque is AMAZING!!! I loved his class. He really cares about the students and really wants us to succeed. The thing I really like about him and his teaching is that Brother Duque teaches the way he hope that we will teach one day. He does not spend a lot of time lecturing but encourages group discussion and group learning. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I'm tired of people saying how terrible he is, when in fact, he's the nicest teacher in the department. He believes in academic repentance, which means students can fix things if needed. He wants all of his students to succeed. If you fail the class, it means you just don't read the rubrics or don't do the work. He's a teacher worth learning from!!
B. Duque really does seem like an easy going teacher who lets you re-do work BUT his expectations are not clear and when asked about his expectations he doesn't clarify. He is a very inconsistent grader. We were allowed to work in groups to accomplish our homework and even if we all did the same work we were all graded differently.
Brother Duque is the BEST teacher I have had! He is caring and he is all about injury learning. He lets you resubmit which shows that he cares about learning and not just about grading what you do. I really hate reading bad comments about him, he truly is the best teacher! You will learn from him so much! My lesson plans are so god thanks to him!
Duque is the most unorganized teacher Ive ever had. His rubrics has 0 to do with his grading, even if you follow them exactly. Everything is vague and confusing. He teaches the same 2 things every single day, all semester. Tests weekly, quizzes weekly, homework due every day, plus research papers. Assignments seemed pointless. Hated this teacher.
Bro. Duque is an excellent professor! He's easily accessible to the students and gives you all the tools to succeed. The videos he made online were so so so helpful in completing the assignments. He lets you re-do assignments and is really willing to help his students. I love this class and definitely would take another class from him!
His instructions were never clear and he would embarrass me if I asked a question. Confusing and frustrating.
Brother Duque is a very caring teacher, but he taught this class in a constructivist manner and I personally disagree with that philosophy. There are 4 lesson plans spread over the whole semester+it's confusing to know what he really wants included in them. I personally would never teach science how he ran the class which is what he said to do.
Brother Duque was frustrating. He does sincerely care. You can't skip his class without him noticing and asking how he can help. However, if you enjoy classes with open minded discussion. Don't expect it here. If you step out of line with what he says, you are wrong. Period. Discussions are okay if you accept his premise on all things.
He makes you feel dumb for asking questions, and gets into your business quite a lot. Can't miss without him noticing, and it's never clear when assignments are due.
I have mixed feelings about Bro. Duque. He is very nice, but hard to confront. I would ask him questions and he'd give me an unclear answer. The class is very repetitive, I felt like we learned the same thing everyday. There is also a lot of busy work. He gives you 2nd chances, but we we wouldn't need them if he gave clear instructions initially.
Duque won't take the blame when he forgets to tell us something that the whole class does wrong, when it's his fault for not explaining enough. This happens quite often, so get ready to redo a bunch of papers and projects. This should be a 4 credit class instead of 2, he gives us way to many readings, and so many huge papers, and extra projects.
Bro. Duque is a caring man, however his teaching style is just not helpful. He would get frustrated if someone asked a clarifying question and would always beat around the bush to answer it. Attendance is mandatory and like previously mentioned, he WILL notice. Lots of homework, though its not too hard- just confusing.
Brother Duque is super sweet! He definitely takes note of students individually and reaches out which I appreciate. Some say his instructions aren't always clear (which can be frustrating) but I always felt like regardless of what he said, if I put in my best effort I did well on assignments. He just wants to see you understand.
I had Bro Duque when ED 202 (Philosophy) was still a class at BYU-I. He is a nice guy, but the class was very unorganized. It was never clear what we were doing each day in class. I felt like I was teaching myself with tons of assigned readings and then coming back to class to class to share for a brief moment and then move on.
I had taken Brother Duque before and was worried to take another class from him, but I have really enjoyed this class. He sometimes struggles giving clear grading criteria and that would honestly be my biggest complaint. But I feel more prepared to teach math and have learned to appreciate his learning style. I highly suggest taking STEM from him!
I have a teaching job now and three classes of all my college career stick out to me. This is one of them that I remember and use content from every day. All the work that he assigns is important in forming what kind of educator you will be.
I am a math SPED para now and this class has helped me SO much. Not only does all of the content actually apply, but this class and this professor helped me to think about how I want my students to feel when they are in my class. 10/10. Would recommend.
He assigned SO MUCH READING MATERIAL to do EVERY OTHER DAY. I literally had no time to do anything FOR his class or for others!! As a person, Bro. Duque is a good guy, but I absolutely DETESTED coming to class because it was literally the EXACT SAME THING EVERY DAY-not a lie. Expectations were unclear and absurd, and I would not recommend at ALL.
Brother Duque is a great guy, but a very unorganized teacher and gives way too much busy work that is not needed. Get ready to read, he gives a ton of reading and then never even talks about it in class. He also called me out one time in the middle of class for something that I did not do. Was very embarrassing.
I was surprised to see the 2.9/ 5 review. I had him for ed200 and I thought he was great. He does provide lots of reading but in class discussion are very good. He is a compassionate teacher willing to work with you. He also lets you redo assignments.
Hes an okay guy, but a really crummy teacher. Take ED200 online for sure- way easier. He just has you do a lot of busy work and I hadnt learned one thing halfway through the semester. I am a questioner, and I have some different beliefs than most on this campus. He wasnt respectful to me at all, and made me feel very inferior. Dropped the class.
Brother Duque is nice and does care about his students. The class just always seemed unorganized and I was always unsure of his expectations when it came to assignments. I also felt like it was hard to get a direct response from him when it came to answering questions. Nice guy but I didnt love his teaching style.
Brother Duque is an awesome guy! He is so kind and caring and is always willing to talk outside of class! That being said his class is pretty difficult. It is only supposed to be two credits, but he assigns a TON of reading and homework to do. I would not take from him again just because I do not like his teaching style. It's very confusing.
Everyone's comments on here are honest. Attendance does matters. He really is caring for his students. Don't take his class online, it is absolutely awful. In class, at least it was tolerable and you can get through it. But it did seem unorganized and I was always unsure of his expectations were. Ask questions after class, he's more genuine.
Yes he is accessible after class and I tried to use this as much as possible but if you ask questions he makes you feel dumb. He acts bipolar and seems kind but is actually very passive aggressive. Hated how he taught and he is so unorganized. It is 2 credits not 5... This class is terrible by him.
He is terrible! He makes you read and do so much homework.
I am a good students and hard working and trust me when I say he is unorganized and a terrible teacher.
Gives excessive busywork. While I was in his class I had my laptop with me to do work for HIS class that runs 4 hours. Duque then emailed me privately commenting how me having my laptop was disrespectful and the last time someone had their computer in his class they were playing video games and got a C. Excuse me?! Over reaching and arrogant of him
Bro Duque is a great professor. I enjoyed his class. He also is easy to get ahold of and will tell you to ,"call Duque if you need to". He does have a humorous side as well so jsut be prepared.
Bro. Duque was an awful teacher. He had so much homework due each class period and so many drafts. The feedback he would give was vague and 90% of the time the feedback would be to call him. Class was hard to follow and was very critical of all of us. He would laugh when we asked questions and he always sounded upset when he had to explain things
Brother Duque is the worst. He often says he is super willing to help, but when you ask questions he gets frustrated or laughs at you for not knowing. He does not give clear instructions for assignments and the feedback that he gives does not help to fix the errors made. Avoid taking him if you can, but if not just be prepared to struggle.
Brother Duque is a loving and caring teacher. Brother Duque will help you outside of class, which was very helpful. However, all of his assignments are poorly explained. When my classmates and I would ask him questions it felt like he took our questions as a personal insult to his teaching rather than clarifying or answering our questions.
Bro. Duque in a few words was kind of lazy. You will have a lot of padlets throughout the semester which I suggest you save all of them. There are so many repeats. We asked if he could create a document with all of them and he said it would take to much time. I found all 5 in 5 minutes. There was a total of 5 padlets with like 3 repeats for each.
Brother Duque is nice but so unorganized. He doesn't explain what he wants from you and comments, "Call me." I was having trouble with an assignment and he was so rude and just whistled the whole time instead of helping. I felt like I could never ask questions without being laughed out. He made me feel so dumb and terrible for not knowing.
The assignments are unclear and you never know what grade you are going to get!
Brother Duque is a nice guy, but not a great teacher. I am taking ED 405 and ED 406 from him and the classes are basically the same. He laughs at students in class and makes them feel bad for his mistakes. Instructions for assignments are generally unclear and hard to follow. TONS of busywork that has nothing to do with the class. AVOID if you can.
I did not enjoy Duque as a professor. His assignments are very confusing and often times are just used as busy work. I felt that I didn't learn anything.
SO MANY busy work assignments. Hard to keep up with all the pointless assignments. The assignment expectations are unclear and it is almost impossible to get 100% on anything. Does not give good feedback and is frustrating to work with. Expects you to just know what to do. Please avoid this professor at all costs. Way more work than 3 credits.
Brother Duque is a good man and very great when it comes to connecting with students, however I found this class to be extremely more difficult than it needed to be. I found that when I did assignments, I spent half the time trying to find the materials I needed because the class is very disorganized. I did learn, but take from a different profess.
Bro Duque is a super nice guy. As a teacher, I wouldn't recommend it. You end up just going over the same information every class and I honestly feel like I did not walk away from this class learning anything new. He doesn't explain what is expected of you well and I never know if I will get an A or a C on his papers.
Bro Duque is a really nice guy he just is not good at explaining assignments. When you ask a question he never answers it clearly. Also his TA's and him grade so hard for no reason, even when you follow the rubric. However, he is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students mental health and well being.
Brother Duque is a super nice guy. But his class was super hard. First off theres ALOT of homework and work that is difficult to understand. You truly have to work for the grade.
I've enjoyed his class and I was confused why he had such a low rating. He is actually pretty cool and understanding. Great teacher!
awesome teacher
He is not good at getting back to you about assignments or being available to talk. I went to his office during the office hours listed on the syllabus to ask about an assignment and he wasn't there. He also never replies to emails and does not explain assignments. Canvas is not organized well, which makes it difficult to find the resources there.
Brother Duque is a great teacher and he really cares about his students. He's a tender guy and is definitely willing to help you in any way he can. His class is sometimes a little unclear because we only briefly go over assignments in class and then it's on your own.
This class should've been an easy one. His instructions were really unclear, + he would grade super hard because he wanted it an exact way but didn't tell us that. Every lesson felt like it was going in circles. We spent the entire semester talking about physical manipulatives used for adding, multiplying, dividing, + subtracting I learned nothing.
I don't understand why Prof. Duque has a low rating. This was one of the most meaningful classes that I have had at BYU-Idaho. The class load is easy. He will help you the best he can with assignments if they are not clear. You would need to be incredibly lazy to get a C in this class. 10/10. Would love him for future classes.
Uninspiring.
He is a great person, not a good professor. Made the classroom itself fun, but for the materials he taught, it was a joke. We only learned about philosophy and phycology. Nothing really about how to teach a classroom. His prep quizzes were easy but it was frustrating because he never taught what the tests were on. Very easy, but he is low-key dumb.
I like him. He tries to make the class engaging and fun. One of the strengths is he is flexible with his students, making life a little bit easier. One struggle is lack of organization on Canvas and lack of instruction. I had a hard time finding motivation to go to class, because there was no instruction. The class was useless to go to.
Brother Duque is AMAZING. He is one of the most thoughtful and kind professors I've ever had. This course is a lot of work, but if you stay on top of it you will be fine. He talks you through EVERYTHING and you are able to use his own examples in your lesson plans. Sometimes he can be a bit confusing but he's very good at answer questions.
Brother Duque is an amazing teacher. He clearly tells you what needs to be done and reminds you and will give you multiple times to turn papers in as long as it is turned in before the due date. Make sure you take notes in class. All tests and quizzes are open book, open note, do not have a time limit and you can take them multiple times. Do take!
Brother Duque was very difficult to work with. This class was by far my least favorite class. He gave us way too many assignments and expected a lot of us. The assignments don't have any clear explanation on what to do, and he expects you to just know how to do everything.
I had Brother Duque for Stem 2 and I will NEVER take another class from him. He was extremely rude. He doesn't know how to use technology. He will yell at you if you ask questions. He is not consistent in his grading. Two people can turn in the exact same thing and get different grades. I strongly recommend not taking any classes from him.
Please save yourself the headache and do not take any courses from Brother Duque. He has you turn in drafts that he purposefully writes illegible feedback on so you have to meet with him. Also he simply doesn't teach you, he expects you to teach yourself from his 200+ PowerPoint slides each week. And they've very vague, confusing and repetitive.
This class is awful. This professor does not give clear instructions on anything. I asked him to review my final paper before turning it in before the final date, and he did but gave no instruction to fix it. He is vague as vague can get. The course is worse than the professor, but he doesn't do much to make it better
I would not recommend any person to take a class from Bro. Duque. His canvas is disorganized, unhelpful and a challenge to navigate through. When you need help, you are given little to none, through detached emails that hardly address the concerns you bring to him. He is unprofessional in the way he speaks to students & provides a poor experience.
Brother Duque gives you whiplash. He is nice and fairly understanding, but he also can be difficult about some things. He walked out of our class because no one had any questions. I did visit him during his office hours though, and it was alright.
Bro Duque is a sweet grandpa that I would adore if he weren't in charge of teaching me anything. But as a teacher, he is unorganized, confusing, uncommunicative, and frustrating. My online class from him wasn't terrible. I *cannot* say the same for my in-person class. He has unclear expectations and gets frustrated when you ask for clarification.
Brother Duque was such a great teacher! If you come to class with an open mind, you will learn a bunch from him. I sure did! He was so caring and deeply cared for each of his students. If you ask him for help, he will take the time to help you succeed. I had a great time in his class and loved coming! Just apply yourself and you'll do great!
While he is very kind and sweet as a teacher I feel like I did not learn much. Now his class is easy but the content is confusing. He also grades 2 identical assignments differently. His rubrics are confusing and very opinion based. He also intentionally gives conflicting feedback so you have to meet up with him.
I enjoyed taking a class from Brother Duque! He cares deeply for all of his students and strives to make his class a place where everyone is welcome. He has a lot of experience in teaching and interacting with students which is evident in the information he relays. He cares about those he teaches and helps you to as well.
While Brother Duque is a kind professor, his class can be a bit confusing. The workload is heavy, and he expects a lot from students. However, using resources like unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can help navigate the vague assignments.
He's a teacher who likes just being in charge and gives vague instructions just so that he can confuse you into thinking that you missed a bunch of points because you didn't do things his way. Two people can send in the same assignment and get 2 different scores. He has insane tests with select all choices. Hopefully he retires for good after this.
Didn't teach anything. Posted videos online that were vague and unclear, and in class told us to work on things and ask if we had questions. It was disorganized and he never actually taught content, basically we had to figure it out ourselves. For grading, we had to work out how he wanted things worded or set up or we'd lose marks.
