she is a wonderful teacher, she is nice, very claer, smart and esay. All of her notes are on power point(blaqboard) and all her quizzes are multiple choice take home quizzes. Her midterm exam was the same questions that were on the quizzes. This class is an easy A, all you have to do is pay attention and show up in class. She is qonderful
She is a very interesting teacher with a great background in what she is teaching. She wants you to excel in what you are doing and to apply it to real life outside of school.
I don't know what kind of teacher they had, but I thought she was horrible. Her lectures were boring and her tests had nothing to do with her lectures. There were soooo many assignments to do in this class I could hardly keep up. Dumb assignments too. She just reads off her Power point and many times can't even pronounce terminologies used.Keep out
PROF. SKIFFER IS A PRETTY GOOD PROFESSOR. I ENJOYED BOTH THE CLASSES I HAD WITH HER. THE ASSIGNMENTS WEREN'T TOO DIFFICULT, AND THE TESTS WERE BASED ON THE QUIZZES. IF YOU DO YOUR WORK YOU'LL DO GOOD IN THE CLASS. ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS GETTING A GRADE CHANGE... TAKING FOREVER! OTHER THAN THAT SHE'S KOO. I RECOMMEND HER.

I thought she was the stupidest professor at Dominmguez Hills! She was sooo anal about every little thing. I don't understand how she became a sociologist. Her work load was ridiculous and stupid too. I did it, but hated it. I will never take her again. She was the worst teacher I've ever had and I hope she does read this!

This was the most unorginized, poorly taught, nightmare of a class. Dr. Dex spoke highly of Skiffer, but he should sit through what you can barley call a "class" and see if he still agrees. Unorginized, blames the students but never her own shortsitedness and lack of ability. Im a 4.0 type student and I got a c+ in her class...need I say more...

This is the worst professor I have ever taken. Does not know how to teach grade or preach. She is very irresponsible and did not grade our assingments on time. She is very anal and extremely inconsiderate.
Worst teacher ever. Has no respect for any of her students. Does not even grade her own tests has her TA do EVERYTHING. But the funny thing is is that he does not even have any sort of degree but she still lets him do the important stuff...wow. She is not fair at all, althrough the semester she messed up on ALL the grading. Very rude!Dont take her!

Not very great at professionalism. Class is very ineffective because she weaks in her teaching skills. You would think with a PH.D she would provide more clarification on what she expects from the class. The CSUDH sociology department has took a step below by making her a staff member. I took Dr. Skiffer's Deviant Gangs class and I thought they were a lot of work but great classes. She is straight forward and the only way you can do bad in her class is if your lazy and ignorant.
Dr. Skiffer is very arrogant in her ways and seems to have no real compassion for her students. even though she would continously state she is a product of a broken home with family memeber with gang affilations, she seems not to have compassion for real people. i found her teaching methods ineffective, i passed the class but left with no content.
very difficult professor reading the material is a must if you dont read and study the material you will not pass the class, professor skiffer is kind of stand offish with her students as if she was never a student herself...she need to relax more have a little more compassion
Pretty cool teachers, she leaves it up to you to attend and complete all assignments. She is thorough and I think a pretty good professor. I would take others classes with her - she is intelligent and knows her subject.

Presentations were too WORDY. She talked too fast! Occasional curse words were not necessary. However, I give her props for the being knowledgable and knowing her stuff...just not my teaching style. All and all..too many wordy presentations, readings, and did not like the online quizzes and exams. I wouldn't recommend her.
she is a nice laid back teacher but her tests were tough. make sure you read and study the book.
She is a challenging professor that expects you to keep up with and understand the reading. Lazyness will keep you from passing! Go to class because she goes over the material. I just wish the exams were not multiple choice but instead a paper because this is a class that challenges your critical thinking skills.

This instructor has really challenging test. You must have the book and you must read in order to pass. Would not recommend her class but would take her again if i absolutely had no other choice in the matter.

This is the gangs class and I took it during the summer session. It was too much information at once. Tests are very hard and tricky! Discussion board postings look relatively easy, but I was always given low scores. I am an honors level student and honestly think this teacher did a bad job. I do not recommend this class at all.

Not a professional. She complained about a lack of class time due to furloughs and then wasted at least 4 class meetings by my count. 1.Wasted a class teaching students Blackboard. 2.Wasted 3 class meetings on a resume assignment. Only completed 4 chapters out of 12 on syllabus. She also FAILED to submit her students grades on time *SHAKES HEAD.*

This year many people focused on her unorthodox style of teaching but failed understand one thingthat I did.READ EVERY CHAP., WRITE DOWN VOCABULARY, THEORISTS AND THEIR THEORIES.THE QUESTIONS AT THE END SHE USES FOR HER TESTS. I dont know what all these negative posts are for. i just had her for winter intersession 2010 and loved it! It was simple....5 discussion postings, a midterm, a final and 3 quizzes....u do have to study and there is lots of reading, but u get out of the class what u put in! EXCELLENT class and professor. Very helpful in office hours....helpful
Wastes a lot of time teaching unrelated material. Doesnt make the material easy to understand. confusing. I ended up being 5 pts away from a B. The class isnt that difficult but it is boring because she is boring.
all the hard work and she gave me the wrong grade which was lower than what I had earned. She can be a very engaged professor, but the experience with her is much too stressful.

Skiffer is a ridiculous and arrogant. I almost had to go as fas as speaking with the Dean of the University about her refusing to communicate with me. She doesn't realize that her job is to assist and instruct and she loves the sound of her own voice. Also, if you do not address her by Dr. in every attempt to communicate, she will not respond.

If your not a reader or don't like coming to class do the online section. But you will need to study for all exams/quizzes she is very helpful by far and please respect that DR. Skiffer earned her title so address her as it....One of the best Professor thus far at Dominguez
Very tough. She goes through the topics quickly and A LOT of reading! The material can be confusing because it speaks of very similar things with different names. If you aren't an "A Student", you won't like the class.
Great Professor, I truly dislike the group project plus, I do not like to work with flake students. She grades fair but I recommend the online class because service learning is not required. She uses Pod cast and other online tools. Easy class buy the book and do not be a flake when in a group project.
Dr.Skiffer is a GREAT prof. & has command over her course. =D It is impossible to fail, since she provides powerpoints,podcast,class recordings,study guides all accessible on Blackborad.& mass emails 24/7! Her online classes are a breeze,With an exception to the group (5-10 slide powerpoint) presentation, since their's LAZY inconsiderate students!
I have taken skiffer online for three of her courses. She is a great online teacher , she records her in class meetings on podcasts and loads them for her online students to listen to at their convienece . All of the material she covers is on the tests and quiz. Her corespondence via email is the only negative, she hardly gets back to emails.
Definitely recommend her online class. The only drawback is attending lectures via computer is semi-mandatory. As mentioned by previous students contacting her via email can be problematic. Assignments are fairly easy including quizzes and tests.
She expects you to act like a college student, she explains the chapters thoroughly. Her online class consists of 2 simple discussion board ?s 3 quizzes 1 midterm and final, plus an annotated bibliography w/ 5 sources..She posts podcasts, power points , and study guides ahead of time. Keep track of what you'll need to do. Recommend her.
She isn't hard but isn't easy either. She posts everything online and there are 3 Quizzes and a final & midterm. You need to be responsible for reading and doing the research paper she assigns. Other than that it'll be easy if you're on track.

Horrible online professor. I've taken two of her classes, received C's in each, and will NEVER take another. Her exams online come straight from the book, so buy it. But if you have questions, don't ask her. She refuses to answer questions or response to emails. Her communication skills are terrible.
Last year, this professor isn't the worst, but could improve communication. For an online class communication is key. She writes instructions that are very confusing. We had to wait months for our extra credit points (which were 1-2pts). Do not attempt to go to office hours, they are swamped with both online and her on campus course students.

Super easy class. Her quizzes where quite repetitive. She repeats the questions on every quiz so keeping a copy of every quiz would help a lot.

Honestly I really enjoyed her class. She is a little slow on replying. The reason I won't ever take her again is because she pissed me off when I got a 92% and got a B. I don't think that's fair.

Online class is good to get a quick class out of the way. Beware though she asks questions on the test that are not on the study guide and she never really talked about. Guess they're supposed to be common sense questions for sociologists. Also suggest you read ahead, sometimes she includes questions from future readings, no use in confronting her

Like her class and how organized and structured she is. It was a Saturday morning class so she brought breakfast every day. Down to earth and easy to relate too. If you do the work you will pass the class.
By far the worst online professor I have ever had! The class did not stick to the syllabus. Weekly expectations were emailed instead. Group project was completely disorganized and instructions were unclear; examples provided were drastically different from the multiple emailed instructions, which changed weekly as well. This was the worst!
Avoid this professor at all cost. Seriously, take this class with another professor and if you can't. Wait until next semester to take this class with someone else. She's terrible at communicating with the class. And takes forever to respond to emails. Her instructions for assignments were so confusing and it seemed like she was never satisfied.
If you are a working student, avoid this professor! During my semester I took this class she made quizzes on saturdays ONLY & the quizzes are only open for 20 minutes !
Avoid! The course seems easy at first, however, Skiffer is confusing and unclear on her expectations. She mixed fall semester and winter semester content together, kept repeating vague feedback, tough grader, complicated group project, quizzes at 6pm which defeats the purpose of the flexibility of an online class. Went from straight As to a B-.
Her quizzes are set for Saturdays BUT as long as you log in on time she will eventually give you all the points for taking the quiz. in other words you can fail the quizand she will still make it an A for doing it with in the given time. The MT and final are based on the quizzes, which she provides the answers for us to prepare. TAKE HER!
There are Quizes Saturday nights. If that doesn't want to make you skip her and cause anxiety. Maybe looking at her BB Setup, and how disorganized it is, will cause gray hairs. Overall pretty easy course, timing and structure are a mess though. Take at your own risk
Overwhelming by the teacher emailing you every SINGLE day any time of the day. ANNOYED! She didn't put any effort in updating her lectures and assignments from previous semesters. Caused stress, Annoying voice. Finish quizzes at 20 min mark or no full credit. Annotated Bib was stupid. Unorganized and confusing online class
I took this professor for an online course and it was not great. She is very unorganized with her assignments and everything else on blackboard. Her lecture videos were difficult to hear. Exams/quizzes were on Saturdays in the evenings at 6pm and MAKE SURE TO LOGIN AND LOGOUT ON THE DOT or she will deduct points. I can't stress this enough.
I'm not sure why Dr. Skiffer ratings are so low. I took her in the summer and her class wasn't that difficult. I hate the group project and the emails but overall Dr. Skiffer is a solid choice. I would recommend her. If you're having difficulties just talk to her, she's kind and understanding.
I didnt understand her feedback. First she says correct this feedback for a better grade then I correct it turn it in and get a lower grade then before. Also, group assignments are the worst in this class. The extra credit is not even extra credit; she grades it as a normal assignment.
There's 6 quizzes, midterm and a final. Her main focus though is on a group project that'll either make or break you. Make sure your group is on the same page on what needs to be done. It's a simple project, but people make it more difficult than it needs to be honestly.

Instructor was very unorganized and confusing when assignments were due and gave no examples on assignments, instructor puts us into law firms and that was a horrible idea for this class when nobody would participate until the end when things were due and ended up failing, this class fun but just horrible layout on the circular that was laid out.
This class was average it consisted of one group project and exams and many readings that you don't necessarily need to do and podcasts and lecture videos. Just keep up with the curriculum and you will be fine.
took her for couple of online courses. easy A if you do the readings or listen to her lectures which are very interesting. also, she assigns you to a group for a group project that will be worked on throughout the semester.
took her for SOC 362 Gangs. the assignments are pretty clear as long as you do the readings or the lectures and take notes. the quizzes and exams are understandable and easy with no trick questions. easy A.
Dr. Skiffer's class consists of a few quizzes, and midterm, and a final. She claims we need her over $100 textbook to pass the class. I didn't purchase it, and I was able to pass the course with a decent grade. The tests are easy; the only problem is the group paper. The TA she has grades everything and is a HEAVY grader for the group paper.
The professor and the TA aren't that bad but beware of them popping instructions on you a day or two before assignments are due. However, the worst part of the class is the group project and the students in the class. The group project is easy to get but be ready to do most of the work if your group refuses to read the directions for assignments.
