Pros: Professor Jordan is knowledgeable of the material and she seems like genuinely wants to teach it well. Her teaching style is very "to the point" with several examples/real life situations along the way. Cons: For lectures, she just prints off the slides for the chapter and goes through and talks about each slide and underlines/adds notes.
One of the worst classes I have ever taken at The University of Tennessee. No point in going to class if you can find the notes from last semester - she won't teach you anything. Messes up number calculations on a regular basis. Very confusing and doesn't know the material whatsoever.
I don't think the content would have been as hard if the teacher actually knew what she was talking about. She gives you notes to print off but just goes over them in class & messes up the notes very often as she's copying them. She can't answer student questions and I don't trust her credibility. She takes attendance with name tents like you're 5.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to teach yourself an entire semester worth of accounting? Do you listen to audiobooks or podcasts in your spare time? Well then Mrs. Jordan's class is for you! With no prior experience, a lack of credentials and minimal knowledge of the material, Big Orange Screw brings LaTonya Jordan to your 311 class!
A person who has never learned a single thing about accounting could teach as effectively as Latonya Jordan. She flys through tougher concepts (most likely because she doesn't understand them) and drags out simple concepts to fill class time. She rarely is able to answer student questions with a clear explanation.
My experience with Mrs. Jordan was the worst I have ever had, which is sad being that she is teaching an upper-level accounting course. Words to describe: Incompetent. Lazy. Inconsiderate. Awful. Chances are she will not be the professor for this class any longer, but if she is do not take her. You have been warned.
If you have a chance not to take her, do it. Reads directly from a print off note sheet and answer guide. Usually can't give direct answers to students questions. Quizzes on every chapter but the answer you can find online. 3 exams that look nothing like the problems you work on in class or on the quiz. Stay away if possible, if not good luck.
Professor Jordan is a good teacher. Accounting is a very hard class for most people, but I think for the toughness and amount of material she covered, she did well. Class is a lot of notes and lecturing - the same every day - but it is just how some college classes have to be. She is a nice person and will meet with you if you need it.
Reads directly off the powerpoints (which are jam packed top to bottom with words), makes general common sense statements, quizzes over material barely touched (over 2/3 of the class fails the quizzes), speaks very monotone, gets practice problems incorrect, hard to hear unless up front
Latonya is the WORST professor/teacher I have ever had, or will have. It makes completely no sense to me why when she failed to teach ACC 200 and 311, two extremely difficult classes, they placed her in 342, a subject she knows nothing about. It's a great class for learning how not to teach, as she just reads from slides and is overly incompetent.
Lasagna. LaTonic Water. LEGEND. Latonya Jordan is the worst teacher I've ever had. She couldn't teach a rock how to sit. Latonya has this unique gift of making class material incomprehensible, and it's almost impressive. She LOVES to read. In class, she shares her passion for reading by reading us all the PowerPoint slides. Amazing!
dont take her she aint good news
She sets up her student's for failure which is frustrating and isn't very good at explaining the material. The tests are overly tricky and unfair. She claims to just be challenging her students but she does so in an impossible way that makes everyone unclear of the information we need to learn. Seems like a nice lady but awful professor.
I've had Latonya for both accounting and BUAD 342 and both times it's been miserable. She reads directly off slides as if they're cooking instructions, not to mention her slides sometimes contain multiple paragraphs of information. Enjoy sitting through extremely bland lectures just to have to teach yourself. It's a LatoNO from me dawg
The way she teaches - wack. The way she designs her powerpoints - wack. The way she barely explains things - wack. In seriousness, though, Latonya is a terrible teacher. It's not that she doesn't put in an effort or know what she's talking about; she just shouldn't be a professor. It takes a particular kind of person to teach and she's not it.
The hardest class I have ever taken.
This class would be much easier if the professor was able to teach the content. She rarely is able to answer student's questions and when she does, she sounds very unsure in herself. I think she does genuinely try to help but she just does not have the niche to be a professor.
The teacher for BUAD 342 is a sad excuse for an educator. She taught ACCT 200, but she was terrible at teaching that course too. She has been demoted to BUAD 342 because she simply cannot teach. Please do not take her because you will regret it. She teaches the material like she knows it, but the sad truth is, you probably know the material better.
If you don't show up to class, do the practice problems, or study then you fail. If you do those three things, the class isn't hard at all. People bash her but she is no better or worse than any other professor. You cannot be lazy all semester and then expect a good grade. Put in the work and an A is definitely possible.
Latonya Jordan is one of the worst professors I have had during my college experience. During our last exam, we started about 5 mins late according to the large clock SHE had pulled up on screen. When it came close to call time, she refused to admit we started late. It took the entire class yelling back at her for her to grant the extra 5 minutes.
LaTonya Jordan is a brilliant woman, I have no doubt about that, but I do not think that she should be a professor. There is a certain level of organization and structure and self-awareness needed to be able to stand up in front of a bunch of 20-somethings and explain everything with clarity. The way she does that... it aint it chief.
Professor Jordan is a decent professor. She knows the material well and has the qualifications to teach it. Go to class, participate, and put in the work and it's just as difficult as any other third year business course. People love to blame the professor for their lack of studying, it isn't her fault.
She would read directly from powerpoint slides. She frequently seemed to not know the material she was teaching, sometimes having to look up youtube videos to better explain the topic at hand. Mrs. Jordan is an unaccommodating professor, who seems to have very little concern for her students' comprehension. I would avoid her at all costs.
Latonya greatly enjoys reading off of the slides in her classes. She does not elaborate on any topics and loves to mention her prior work experience. Good person and means well but does not really do the job as a higher level education instructor.
She read off PP slides, made little or no effort to clarify, shifted responsibility to TAs, gave conflicting information, and couldn't even use the programs to effectively describe the coursework. Her failure is an indictment of the Business College and university itself. You might teach yourself the course with effort better than she can.
This is the worst professor Ive ever had. She couldnt teach someone how to put chapstick on there lips. It would take her 3 months and 500 paragraphs to explain what a stop sign is to someone. Have a questions? Dont bother because even if she tells you the answer it wont be correct.
This class may have been the worst I have every taken at UT. Her slides were copied from the internet and when asked questions in class, she did not know how to answer them. I went to office hours for project help and she did not know how to do the project. Overall, this class was disappointing because of her teaching style. Do not recommend.
Her slides have too many words on themand she just reads off the slides. I went to her for project help and she told me she couldn't figure out how to do it. She would also do a test review in class and never knew what she was talking about. She just made up her own answers to definitions and problems
She definitely needs to learn how to be a teacher before she starts teaching, i went to every class but I still didn't understand, I literally learned this class from classmates and youtube, even the TAs taught me more than she did. Don't take her class or you will have a tough semester.
Mrs. Jordan has been by far the worst professor that I have had while at UT, and i've had some pretty bad ones. Her class would not be so bad if there were any other grades than the 4 tests that we are give, so if you do bad on one or two of the tests, you will fail the class. Plain and simple.
Attendance isnt counted for anything, but if u skip u will fail. If u attend, theres still a chance u'll fail because her teaching is awful. She rambles quietly while the class tries to follow. The ONLY 4 grades that mean anything are exams which are hard. There is no emphasis on the importance of concepts, so studying is impossible. expecting an F
Only 4 tests... nothing else. Does not take attendance. Only uses powerpoints for lectures. No textbook. The Student Instructor prepares us for the test, Mrs. Jordan does not. Can not explain concepts well at all. The only reason I took this class is because there was no other instructor available for this course. Do not take her.
So here's the thing. I have taken much harder classes at UT than ACCT 200. But this class was made unnecessarily difficult. The lectures are pointless. It is just reading of a powerpoint. A high-schooler can do that. PRO TIP: go to every SI Session and have the TA teach you the course and never attend Jordan's class. It's absolutely pointless
She reads directly off the slides and all slides are posted on canvas, so you never have to go to class. However, there is a lot of information covered in SI sessions that she doesn't cover in class which sucks. As long as you review the slides on your own and study the SI exam reviews heavily you can pass this class fairly easily.
Here's the thing - you HAVE to go to class. I took this class as an elective, it has nothing to do with my major. I was nervous about failing a class in my last semester of senior year, so I made it a point to sit in the front row and always go to class, even if I didn't have to. You can hear her really well, and it made the class a breeze.
You only get graded on 4 tests and it doesn't matter how hard you study. You have to do a lot of out of class studying because it feels like she doesn't teach. Good luck if you get her class.
LaTonya is a really nice person! The class, on the other hand, was super hard. Your grade is only on the exams. She makes the content seem fairly simple, but the exams are so complex. When asked about exams "study everything" she says. Don't expect a study guide or a formulas sheet if you don' go to the SI sessions. Overall its a really hard class!
This class requires studying outside of lecture (shocker, right?). You HAVE to study the material as its being taught from first day. While each test may only be on one module, the material builds on itself. I made an A in her class. Sure her tests may be a little tricky but if you study its not hard at all.
Make sure to know every single word on the powerpoints. And make sure to know how to do every problem on the practice problem worksheets. She doesn't give every formula in the powerpoint, sometimes you only learn how to do the problems from the practice problem worksheets. I got a tutor and that helped a lot.
she doesn't give out a study guide so basically her power points with 20+ slides are all you have. She doesn't tell you what is going to be on the exam. she basically just reads off of her power points. if you take it over the summer, you have to show up every day because she gives a quiz everyday and you cant take if if you're 10 minutes late.
Really great professor! She takes time to explain the material, and even though sh does not tell you what is going to be on the exams she teaches accounting so well that studying should not be hard at all. Have to work hard in the class, but she is always there to help and answer questions.
Professor LaTonya Jordan has a poorly organized class and it not very helpful at all as far as actual teaching goes. When asked exam specific questions (weeks before an exam) she tells you to refer to the slideshows. She routinely makes errors (wrong test answers, inaccurate class documents, etc.) and rarely corrects them, even the students sake.
Professor Jordan does nothing but read off of a slide the whole class. She sometimes trips up on her own slides and does not seem to understand the topic enough to make a logical example. Her class is 470 points, 400 exams and 70 attendance. I hope you are a good test taker if you take her course, because apparently thats all that matters.
Latonya is a horrible professor who reads her powerpoint slides word for word with little to no knowledge on the actual topics. She is the only professor available to teach this class which is ridiculous because a 5th grader could put in the amount of work she does. Avoid her and her classes at any cost, she is boring and barely knows accounting.
Very confusing explanations and no real reason for mandatory attendance. Each power point is accessible online that she uses in class.
Latonya is the worst professor I've ever had and would not recommend her to anyone. She reads her power points, underlines every word and says "alright" over 200 times per class. Attendance was mandatory which wasn't helpful even though I sat front row. If you want to pass you have to teach yourself, go to tutoring, or be an expert in accounting
This class is straight forward. Just listen in class and study the notes and in-class problems, and you will be fine. Some effort is required, but not a lot. She understands the material, and explains it to the extent it needs. Most is just memorization, so she does a good job presenting the information to the class.
tests are very hard, I studied for a week and ended up getting low c's every time.
I'm writing this review in class right now. A student literally just corrected her on her analysis of an income statement. She doesn't know what she's talking about and Ive learned more from my peers than I have from her. LaTonya has a mandatory attendance policy but it's pointless because everything we go over in class is something I could at home
Everyone in this class is so dramatic. Professor Jordan is super friendly and nice. Her tests are easy if you go over the powerpoints and just memorize the vocab. Theres no homework so the only work you do it studying for the tests. Put in a little bit of effort and youll be fine. My easiest class this semester
Jordan stands at the front of the room and reads printed off powerpoints just to underline a few words. Attending her classes are as useful as just reading the powerpoints until calculations begin. The supplemental instructions are more useful than her classes.
She has a bad reputation because shes teaching a difficult and boring class. Shes not quite as bad as people say but shes still pretty bad. If you can avoid taking her you should try to. She doesnt teach the material in an effective way. Many (including myself) find her very annoying. Shes not horrible, just bad. Ive heard TAs dont like her
if I could give her a 0 I would. the worst professor I have ever taken. she doesn't have any grades besides exams, no homework, no quizzes so if you don't do well on the exams your grade is screwed. She does nothing but reading powerpoint she prints off and underlines random words that don't go together. Avoid her.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had before. She clearly does not care enough about her job to put in any effort whatsoever. She reads the powerpoints word for word and does not give any further knowledge on the subject. She has been corrected by students multiple times for mistakes she has made while working out problems in class.
This is easily to absolute worst professor I have had in my college experience. I don't think I could even use the word minimum to describe the effort she puts in to caring about your comprehension. She underlines a powerpoint and says "alright" 300+ times a class. However, she is the literal only option for this class so good luck.
She only gives you grades on your tests which she makes extremely hard. She always cancels her office hours or your appointments with her, so she is very hard to reach. She takes off points from your test is your scantron is bent. She is rude to students, and her lectures don't prepare you for the exam.
Graded strictly on exams and attendance. You can miss 4 days. Excused or unexcused it does not matter JUST 4. If you go to the bathroom for longer than 5 or are more than 5 minutes late to the class you are counted absent. There is no application of the material. All you have is her lecture slides. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Take it ANYWHERE ELSE!
Does not care about student's comprehension. Avoid her at all costs.
Professor Jordan is a very lecture heavy teacher. Many times you will not receive much from the lectures, but her class is not very difficult to pass if you put in the time and effort to be successful outside of class time.
Latonya is terrible. DO NOT take her class. Yes, I will end up with a B but it is not worth the mental pain she puts you through. She is a fine women but likes to word things in ways to trick her students on test. Its not just on one problem either its on 35 problems on a 40 QUESTION TEST!
She has horrible policies for class and your grade is made up of attendance (which is checked everyday but they still make errors) and 4 tests. while she may know the material she lacks the ability to teach it. I attended every class, review sessions before tests, tutoring, office hours, and so much more but i could never get above a C on a test.
Professor Jordan isn't the best instructor but she's just like any other professor at UTK. Every teacher has different teaching style which is quite effective or they wouldn't be in the position that they are in. Wasn't enough enough homework but a lot was common sense. She's teaching us life principles that is going to beneficial later on in life.
only grades by tests, lectures are pretty boring and you'll have to teach yourself, you'll never really know what's gonna be on the tests, shes the only teacher that teaches this class so good luck
Latonya is the worst professor Ive ever had. Your grade only consists of 4 exams. She has a teaching style that is very hard to follow. Avoid this class unless you absolutely have to take it.
This class ruined my 4.0. Yes it is common sense, but with no homework, it makes it really difficult to understand what she wants from you. Im also not an accounting major, bc this class is for non-accounting majors, so Im not going to sit and memorize all 60 slides per test. I could have been three points less than an A and she wouldnt round.
I am certain that Professor Jordan has absolutely no interest in furthering anyone's education or their understanding/translation of accounting. I would NEVER wish this instructor on my worst enemy. My heart truly breaks for those who have no idea what they are getting themselves into, entering her domain.
AVOID HER AT ALL COST. Not only a horrible teacher, but just not a nice and friendly person to work with, I never once laughed in her class and never felt any kind of personality. Just a dry, boring teacher that fills in blanks on a powerpoint and reads the words on the slides. Anyone can do that. At least get a decently good person to do it.
its just mind blowing that there is a teacher with this many negative reviews and a petitions was created and signed by hundreds of students to have her removed due to her lack of ability to teach the subject, yet she is still the only teacher who teaches this class which is a requirement for most. truly sad and disappointing
Latonya Jordan is the least considerate instructor I have ever had at any level of my education. Accounting 200 should be a pretty basic class not much harder than a basic economics class she expects people to master accounting in a class designed for people who aren't accounting majors. its so upsetting that she does this every year and isnt fired
One of the driest individuals you will meet. It feels like she was a group member who never did anything. Groupme will be more helpful than the professor herself, and she doesn't prepare herself let alone you, for very much. Accounting 200 isn't a tough class, but Latonya makes this course 10x more frustrating than it has to be.
I have taken this class twice now because Latonya likes to let people fail by less than 10 total points in the class. She is a very rude individual who doesn't like when students conflict with her plans and is not lenient with anything. She not great at teaching and explaining the material and the test are very hard so get in groupme and strap up.
Everyone blows her class out of proportion. I am a freshman taking her for the first time, go to class about 50% of the time and made a 98 on the first exam and a 100 on the second. Do you have to study on your own to do good? YES, welcome to college. Study the notes and you will easily pass.
Very tough. Goes do extensive links to make sure no one cheats, makes you feel as if they view you as guilty already. This makes people that work hard and put in the effort that arent going to cheat feel like theres no point.
The worst teacher I have ever had in my life. She is an embarrassment to the university. She has the worst teaching style ever. She changes her grading scale every week so you never know what grade you will get. She is so rude and unhelpful. She needs to be let go!!!!!!
Professor Jordan's reputation on campus is so far from accurate. She gives very straightforward lectures, answers any questions students have, and makes herself available to help out in any way. The class is NOT hard, just show up, take notes, and study a little before the exams.
Anyone complaining about Professor Jordan hasn't put in the effort. The material isn't hard AT ALL. You have to study and go to class; that's it. Most the people who hate Latonya are also the ones asking for homework answers in the groupme an hour before it's due, or they never go to class. It's sad how many people blame her for their own grades.
She's really not that bad, but its the class everyone has to take so a lot of students don't care about the class. Show up to class, study, and do your homework and you will be fine. The content is clear and easy, you just need to study and understand it. LT always answers questions! Exams are a majority of grade though!
This class was the worst class I've ever taken. The class grade was based on 95% on tests and 5% on homework. She does not explain things well and can be extremely confusing about what she wants in your answers. Unfortunately, I believe she is the only professor for this class, so good luck if you have to take it.
Professor Jordan is a good professor, but if you do not pay attention and go to class then you wont do very well. A large percentage of the grade is exams, so hopefully you are a good test taker. also most questions are tricky, always seems that 2 answers can be correct. She explains how to solve everything in class, so you should attend her class.
Professor Jordan is a nice person. Going to class is very helpful, the powerpoints from class do contain everything you need for the exam. You just really have to put in the effort to know it all exactly.
Whoever says the class is hard and that LJ is a terrible professor is over exaggerating. Sure the class is composed of mainly exams, but if you study the notes and know everything in the notes, you will make an A on the test. She has done a lot to make the exams more manageable. She answers all questions, and she teachers like any other professor.
Accounting 200 is required and I believe she's the only teacher so there's nothing we can do about it but she is not good. The grading is ridiculous with exams being 90% of our grade. Her lectures dont make sense and I hardly passed this class. Good luck
I work extremely hard in this class and will most likely end up with a B (my current grade). The problems she goes over in lectures is much HARDER than test questions. Professor Jordan is very inconsiderate because I had a personal emergency and she would not let me re-schedule 1 exam & she doesn't curve tests, even though test averages are in 70s
This class is very passable as long as you put the work in. I took it online this semester and was able to make As and Bs on the tests from watching all of the lectures and practicing the questions. I recommend putting your very best foot forward early on because the tests are 90% of your grade and it is really not worth taking a W.
I initially thought the negative reviews by students were dramatic -- after taking her class, most of the students were correct. Professor Jordan is very knowledgable, but she is not a great professor as she skips through the lecture quickly because she understands the material, but for beginners, it's difficult to decipher.
Latonya was honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She was very inconsiderate, especially during the pandemic. I am a really good student and I struggled in this class a lot. Not because the class was hard but because Latonya made it extremely difficult to understand what was expected of us. Would not recommend.
This is absolutely the worst professor I have had to endure in my four years of college. Im an A/B student, and I believe that the work equals the grade. I worked the hardest I ever have, and still barely passed. She provides no material that relates to the exam, is unhelpful, and doesnt consider students with disabilities needs in a pandemic.
Honestly, she really does her job well as in giving material. test are extremely difficult as in tricky. I passed just be sure to use every worksheet and slides and actually practice. You can do it!
I did not think the class was very bad but I can understand other's frustrations. The lectures were pre-recorded and the exams counted for 90 percent of the grade. Notes were allowed on the exams which made it much easier. Homework is beneficial to better understand the material. Pay a lot of attention to the lectures and take plenty of notes.
Not to be rude, but honestly I cannot believe she is not only a teacher at UT, but the head of the department. She is by far the most boring teacher I've ever had and the least compassionate person I have ever met. Dont miss a test, even if you're in the ER or have an emergency because you'll get an exam 10x harder. HORRIBLE TEACHER. STAY AWAY
This class is straight up awful. Latonya will not work with you, does not seem to care about her students, and makes it ridiculously hard to get the required C in this class. There's no reason it should be so difficult, and no reason that tests are worth like 85% or your grade.
I swear I hate going to class. Other than her class I have all As. She is the most difficult professor, sucks at teaching, makes me want to take acid ngl
Worst Professor Ive ever had. Truly Horrible. She puts no effort in and reads her slides and doesnt clarify or answer questions. Half of the content on the exams isnt taught in class and she pretty much tells you too bad so sad and to figure it out. 87.5% of the grade is the exams. Truly a horrible professor please avoid her at all costs.
exams are worth 90% of grade and very difficult. Latonya is passionate but not a great teacher for many students, and I believe the accounting program would prosper as would it students if they offered other professor options.
Jordan is a good person and wants her students to succeed. I think the issue for this class is that the material is hard in general, so no matter your professor, itll still be a difficult class, but Jordan does everything she can to help prepare for the exams. Just do EVERYTHING she says (practice questions, extra videos, etc.) and youll be fine!
This class requires effort to do well in, but Dr. Jordan is a nice and good teacher. There is a ton of material she makes available to study for the tests, she gives huge curves on exams, and as long as you review assignments, hw, practice quizzes, & lectures you will do okay. She even allows notes for the exams. Hard subject, but do not give up!
You HAVE TO put in some much extra effort for this class. Professor Jordan always seemed annoyed with questions in class (not sure about office hours), and by halfway through the class, most people stopped attending lecture. Lots of homework, but don't worry if you occasionally forget because tests count so much. Textbook is SO HELPFUL
The worst professor at the university of Tennessee. I highly suggest you take this at a college where it will transfer over. She does nothing to help students succeed with the majority of the class that ends of failing.
WORST CLASS i have ever taken. study up on tests!!!! they are the only grade that matters for this class. took it all online and she just reads off powerpoints and does not really explain the information.
Latonya is truly not thatttt bad but she makes no sense and her lectures are hard to understand and tests are so hard. Take it a community college or take 203.
It doesn't matter how well you do on the homework or how hard you try, the exams are worth so much, 1 bad grade and your overall grade tanks. I'm a straight A/B student with a 3.5 gpa and this is my first D ever. Thanks to the exams being worth 85% of my grade, there was nothing I could do to pick it up, even if every quiz, homework was a 100.
Lantonya Jordan is awful, I would never ever recommend her to anyone. she is careless. Always annoyed, exams are 85% of ur grade. take this at a community college before you fail. Her calling is clearly not teaching accounting. Most of my friends failed and 60% overall failure rate.
LaTonya is not as bad as everyone says she is, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND taking her class as fully online! Maybe her class would be better taken in person. the lectures are just notes that she copies off of notes that she has already done. she wrote them on her iPad and would get irritated if people asked what the words said because she just scribbled
Her class is very hard and you HAVE to study or you will not do well. She does not really offer much help and you kind of have to do everything yourself. I would not recommend taking her as I wanted to die every single day signing into her Zoom class.
Shes a perfectly good teacher. The course material can be difficult but go to class, pay attention, study, and put in effort and youll be fine. For exams, review your notes and do the additional practice. Shes gives you the resources, you just have to use them.
All she does is read off slides. Theres no study guides, she doesnt have any study materials for the tests while they account for 85% of your grade. She kinda teaches like you already know what shes talking about but no one does. The most unhelpful teacher Ive ever had, will openly tell you she doesnt answer emails.
Latonya is by far the worst professor Ive had in my 3 years of school. She is such a hard grader, does not offer students any help, and frankly doesnt care if you pass or not because she still gets paid the same. STAY AWAY FROM HER AND HER CLASSES!
Shes probably one of my favorite professors and makes understanding easy. As long as you pay attention and keep up this class will be a breeze. People that say different are the ones that dont go to class or do homework and expect an A. 30 multiple choice questions is a joke. I just follow along in class and currently have a 95.
Latonya is not a bad professor and this class is set up to be difficult, accounting is just hard and Prof Jordan doesn't make it any easier. She is a super nice lady and genuinely likes her students, but she makes an already difficult subject even harder to learn. Take if you have to, but be prepared for at least 5+ hours of studying a week.
LaTonya has been the worst professor I have yet taken. It almost feels as if she wants her students to fail. Extremely boring lectures and the tests are extremely hard. would not recommend her to anyone and I am sorry if you have to take her class. 0/5
Professor Jordan's lectures are great and very informative. Homework is pretty easy as long as you pay attention in class. If you fill out the notes and do the chapter reviews on McGraw Hill before the exams, you will definitely get an A. You get one exam drop, and three homework drops.
I went to every class+sat towards the front+took notes. I learned more from FREE YouTube videos than the college level course I paid for. To go and sit in a lecture hall for an hour and a half just to watch someone get paid to fill in the blanks on a printed out power point slide is painful to say the least. Cant read her writing. 1st C in my life.
Professor Jordan is the worst professor at UT and does not care about her students. I have experienced multiple instances where students have asked her to slow down her lectures and she flat out says no and to keep up. Another time a student asked if the slides will be posted later for review and she said that is not her responsibility. Good luck!
She is genuinely one of the worst teachers I have ever had in my life. Literally just reads off a screen for the entirety of each class which by the end of the semester only about 1/8 of the total class actually attends. Gives incredibly hard exams for someone who doesn't teach or just constantly contradicts herself if you actually do pay attention
Many students hate Latonya Jordan for badly teaching accounting. What I can say though is that the video assignments and homework were not that reminiscent of the exams. The video assignments were more useful but the homework was useless. The definitions are simple to learn but what fails many students on the exams is the math part.
She's a nice lady. I would heavily suggest watching the Video Assignments when studying for exams, and doing the additional practice on McMillan's website to prepare for exams.
First off with all due respect, this job is just not for Latonya. Exam heavy/difficult. She doesnt care about her students. Shes extremely lazy in her lectures and 90% of the time whenever youre learning new terms she just abbreviates everything. Class is basically like starting a video game youre new at on the hardest difficulty possible.
Shes a very fair and understanding teacher.
she gets a lot of crap, but she's honestly not a bad professor. she gives you all the tools you need to succeed, but you definitely have to work hard to do well in this class.
Latonya is a great professor in my opinion. People who don't like her only say that because they don't like accounting. She may have been worse online, but in person she is great. She answers questions and makes sure you know it before class is over. Honestly one of the easiest classes I've taken at UT. Exams are easy if you go to class!
Personally I really liked Professor Jordan. She does expect a lot out of her students but this class is in no way impossible. In order to succeed in this class it is important that you go to class, read the book and do the homework. I personally thought that she cared a lot about her students and wanted us to succeed.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this course. People are hard on Professor Jordan because they don't go to class or take notes. If you go to class and print out the notes to fill in during lectures, the material is pretty easy. Professor Jordan also is always happy to answer questions during lectures and through email.
She posted all of her in-person lectures on canvas. She had office hours every week and reviews after each exam to go over missed questions. She gave points back on the most missed exam questions. When our online final wasn't working, she made sure to send updates. You'll be fine if you take notes, study by practicing, and utilize the resources.
No extra credit. It's really not that bad just rewatch the lectures. Everyone goes into the class knowing she has a bad reputation and never tries from the start of the semester. She provides examples, practice problems, vocabulary, and anything else you could possibly need. I actually got high grades on 2/3 exams that actually counted for credit.
most people in this class are full of bs. because attendance is optional, immature students skip class and then blame her for not doing well. there are some people saying she gives no grace when she literally gave everyone a 100 for their final exam due to technical issues in fall 2021. just pay attention, go to class. it's not unusually hard.
she was so bad, I wanted to give her a zero, but thats not possible so I gave her a 1.
LaTonya is by far the worst professor I’ve ever had! She simply shows up to lecture reads off a PowerPoint and that’s it. She has put two exams the day coming back from a break and her reasoning is “that’s just where they landed”. Clearly doesn’t care if her students do well or are well prepared for an exam.
She has really turned it around, these bad reviews are outdated
Professor Jordan has really turned this class around. Everyone saying it is hard just doesn't study or try in this class. She gives you plenty of study material and most of the exam is conceptual information she teaches in class with a few math problems. She quickly responds to emails and seems to care about students understanding the material.
This course was extremely difficult. Tests were 75% of your grade, so if you did not do well on one of them you were pretty much finished. Would not recommend this to anyone.
I'm not sure where all of the bad reviews about Professor Jordan are stemming from, but they certainly do not align with my experience with her or the Accounting 200 course that she taught. I took the online version of this course and it was very easy to follow along with her via Zoom. There are plenty of grade opportunities and tests are not hard.
Hardest class with the worst teaching method I had taken yet.
She did not teach us. All we did was fill in the blank. I did not retain information from this course. The tests were more difficult than the practice.
She has tech issues, but if you have proctorio issues she will count it as your drop exam. She never returns exams, so you have to trust she's not making up grades. You will never know what you missed or how many. She offers no opportunity to see missed exam questions, so, if you miss it the first exam, you'll miss it for the rest unknowingly.
Content boring and her lecture style u gotta get used to. Fair if u show up. Tests based off of lecturers allows cheat sheets, drops lowest test grade, and hw graded on complete. Test easy if you did the practice problm online. AND lectures recorded if u skip. People cant complain one of the most mercy given classes ive taken at UTK
I LOVE LATONYA! The people who do not do well in her class are not trying to do well. They go into it with a mindset that she is awful and they will fail but the reality is if you even listen to half of her lectures you will pass with flying colors.
Professor Jordan is a great teacher. She explains thoroughly and you can ask as many questions as you want. Attendance is not at all mandatory but it is necessary if you want to succeed in this course. If you go to class and take good notes, you'll get an easy A.
She takes pride in students failing in her class. Her lectures do not match up with the homework, she goes through her lectures slides so fast. She is very unorganized and it is hard to keep up with the material. Do not recommend whatsoever
I don't know why there are so many bad reviews for Professor Jordan. If you go to class, take notes and pay attention you'll do fine. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're confused and she'll clarify. The class envionment is very chill, and tests allow a cheatsheet. Unsure how she stacks up with other accounting professors, but she's great.
I was prepared to struggle with this class but I really enjoyed Prof Jordan and the class. Very straight forward and easy if you just do the work. Tests were fair and cheat sheets are allowed. SO MUCH opportunity for help outside of class. Office hours, GTA hours, supplemental instruction classes (2x per week), tutoring
I don't know why prof Jordan has bad ratings. Her exams allow a cheat sheet, and she gives clear topics that will be covered on the exam, & there are not a lot of topics. Other than exams, her homework is either completion, or allows you to "check your answer" before submitting. She drops 1 exam & a lot of hws. This class is one of my easiest.
Great Teacher, just a hard class. Gets a bad rep from people that don't put in the effort to be successful in her class.
Latonya gets a bad rep. Honestly she's not a bad teacher; however I did take the class over zoom for my section. She does have clickers. What worked best for me is while attending class I'd read over the chapter in the textbook and take notes on that. Though do the workbook exercises with her-- those type of questions are the main test content.
Personally I thought Professor Jordan was great. A lot of the people that complain are the same people that skip class everyday. Attendance is not mandatory but her classes are lecture heavy. She posts all of her lectures so as long as you go back and watch them before exams, you should be able to pass. She allows cheat sheets on exams.
Professor Jordan does not deserve the terrible reputation students have created about her. She is great at teaching accounting. She explains everything clearly and completely. Seriously just go to class, take notes on the slides and use all the resources she provides and you will be fine. Accounting is hard, Professor Jordan is not.
Lectures are very boring and she does not show much effort to help students remember the course material.
Go to class, take notes, and read the textbook if you get stuck on a concept. Her handwriting can be difficult to read, but she knows what she's talking about. The material is difficult, but Professor Jordan tries to make sure everyone understand. The textbook will save your life.
Professor Jordan is a decent professor. I just think that the subject of accounting is naturally confusing to learn at first. However, as long as you do the practice problems and understand how to do them and understand the concepts instead of memorization it's the only way to pass the class
Hardest class I have ever taken, the teaching style isn't very good for learning, hard class to succeed in.
Poor teaching style, she lectures the entire time on slides and does fill in the blanks. Very lazy teaching style, and it serves no purpose as none of it appears on the exams.
Professor Jordan simply teaches a hard class and she is the only one that teaches ACC200. If you go to class and actually pay attention you will do fine. People give her a bad rep because they either don't go to class or don't take notes. Her classes are super boring but she tries to make a few jokes here and there.
Worst final I have ever taken.
What she goes over in class seems totally attainable and easy, then you do homework and it still seems fine, then the exam comes and its so much harder than anything else. It sucks that she's the only accounting 200 teacher bc this class caused me to do worse in other classes. Considering changing my major avoid retaking her.
Going in I heard a lot about how this class sucks and Mrs. Jordan's lecture style is awful but going though if you pay somewhat attention and take notes here or there you'll do fine. I never want to take this class again but it's not as hard as people say it is. Exam's were difficult though and the final was awful.
Very lecture heavy, homework is more helpful than class
I think latonya gets a terrible rep and it's not her fault. She is the only teacher for a class all business students (except acct majors) have to take. I found this course very easy bc I'm good at math. If you struggle with math this class might be hard, but doing practice problems will help, and asking her questions during/after class will help.
She is an amazing professor. If you attend class, print out the slideshows and follow along, and do the practice problems before exams you will have no trouble passing this class. She is very clear and never makes you feel bad for asking a question. Exams are very doable if you spend the time studying.
I don't think the material in itself is terribly difficult, it's just other factors that make the course very difficult. My big gripe is that she doesn't let us look at our exams after we take them -- I've never heard of a professor do that. If we don't know what we did wrong initially, then how can we correct those mistakes going forward?
Professor Jordan puts a huge emphasis on the weight of exams -- they make up 80% of your grade. I don't think I've ever had a class do this before. Make sure to utilize all your resources and just pray.
Most people on here are whiny about not liking accounting and not putting the effort in. Exams were very doable if you study, prof is a great teacher and has notes online to print and fill in, and provides a study guide with exact topics on the exam. Study on the homework software and you will do great.
The class itself is hard, and Professor Jordan does her best to explain the material. For this class, you have to be willing to study a lot outside of class because your grade in the class is just four test grades. She does fill-in-the-blank notes and worksheets in class, so I would print those out before to help you learn.
she's really smart and literally cannot dumb anything down for an intro accounting class. very nice lady but class is hard.
The best part about her class was that you didn't have to go. Just watch the recordings and fill out the slides and you will be fine.
Professor Jordan is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. She is so unhelpful and has no sympathy whatsoever. If I email her for a question, she responds back with the most shady responses. I would never recommend taking her. If there was any other professor teaching this class, I would take them instead. She has no respect.
Profesor Jordan is easily the worst teacher I have ever had not only in college, but my entire life. She shows no care for her students, not responding to emails or trying to provide any kind of extra help outside of class. You'll also never have a idea of whats on the tests, and if you fail one test, you might as well just drop the class.
Hands down the worst class/teacher I have ever had. Failed the first exam and everything on my cheat sheet did not even help. She does not care about any student. I had to drop the course because I was not going to be able to bring my grade up as 80% of the class is based on the four exams. I recommend you take this class somewhere else!
She is probably the worst professor I have ever had. She can't explain the content in a simple way. The exams take up 80% of your grade. It is pretty much impossible to pull your grade up if you did bad on one exam and you have almost no way of knowing what will be on exams. SI sessions were the only thing that helped me understand the content.
A200 is not easy, but her approach to teaching makes it way harder. She does not care about her students or give them tools to improve. You get 0 feedback on exams after they're graded. Lectures are very dense and note-heavy and she makes herself hard to understand. She approaches hard concepts saying "this is hard, deal with it" Avoid at all costs
Latonya is smart, but a terrible teacher. Took the class online, started with 450 people on zoom, then 2 months later only 90 showed up because of people dropping. She did NOTHING to make the class easier. Exams are super hard and worth 80% of your grade. Homework takes forever and isn't worth anything. Don't take her if you want a good grade.
One of the absolute worst professors I have ever had. Doesn't respond, doesn't help, assumes you need no further explanation and by far the worst lecture layouts I have ever seen.
I spent 4 years at a uni in Mississippi. This was the first class I took at UT and it spoiled my entire first semester. With exams being 80% of your grade and having terrible texting anxiety, the two do not match. I have gotten 100 on every single HW & VIDEO assignment but do not do great on exams. I am failing the class and will need to drop out.
I failed the first exam, did the math, and realized the best I could do was get a C. So I withdrew and I'm taking it at a community college. She knows the information...DOES NOT know how to teach it.
Professor knows and understands the information but does not know how to explain it to the students that are struggling with grasping the information. The grading scale leans in favor of amazing test takers. Exams are worth 80% of grade. I used the grade calculator and I would need above a 120 out of 100 to receive a 60. I had to drop the class.
Look I'll admit I was one who used to complain about this class being too hard. I failed it and now retaking it and what I've learned is if you download the notes and fill in the blanks and go to the review and ask what questions will be on the exam you'll be chillin looking like I am getting a C this semester.
She is the only professor that teaches ACC 200 so if you are a business major you're screwed. She doesn't explain things well and no one does well on the exams. You have to really keep up with the content to do well in the class.
If you go to class and study even for a day before exams you should be fine. Prof. Jordan is really personable and her lectures aren't super boring. People give her such bad reviews because they don't want to put in the effort. The content itself is challenging and all brand new but it's doable and not as bad as many say. Take in person if you can!
This class is tough. Overall Prof Jordan does a good job with what she's given, her lectures are easy to follow and she has clear expectations for the course. She records and posts lectures online, so missing class isn't a big deal. DO THE HOMEWORK AND ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO IT. That's what helped me the most with the course.
Be prepared to sit through class of her just doing fill-in notes, but if you actually pay attention and devote effort to understanding the material, you will be fine. Take advantage of the cheat sheet for tests and study hard. Seek help when needed. The class is hard regardless, it is not her as a professor that is bad.
Latonya provides tons of resources and gives students what they need for exams. For extra help, I went to the accounting SI and I saw a significant change in test scores (first exam: 72.5; second exam after SI help: 90). Latonya is a good teacher, people who comment that she isn't did not pay attention in class and blame her for it!
The class itself is hard and all new but if you go to class and study even the day before exams you'll be fine. Latonya is really personable and lectures aren't very boring. She gets such bad reviews bc ppl don't try/pay attention and blame her but she provides tons of resources. HIGHLY suggest taking in person and the accounting SI for extra help.
I am not one to leave a bad review, but if you have her, run. The exams are 80% of your grade. If you are not a good test taker, I suggest not taking this class. She knows what she is teaching but her teaching style is ineffective. She does not care about any of her students. Her emails are hateful. The SI group is helpful but it's not enough.
As a professor, Latonya is amazing. She takes time to make sure students know applicability, and has a great class setup. I think most people give her a bad rating as a result from struggling in the class - but, as long as you make a good cheat sheet for the exams you will be okay. She is always open to questions and has been a great teacher.
I did have to take this course twice, but I didn't pay much attention the first time around. i didn't pay attention, i didn't do well and dropped the class. Going to in person class, taking notes, paying attention makes a difference. The people who are mad at her / blame her just don't pay attention. She's a great professor
She is the only ACCT 200 prof which is unfortunate. I took her class online and found it almost impossible to follow the lectures because she would just read and underline every word in the notes. She definitely knows her stuff but doesn't teach it affectively. 100% get chegg if u take this.
Overall, she is not fantastic at her job. However, there are some days when she becomes one of the most personable, and interesting lecturers I have ever had, those days are few and far between. Most of the time she just underlines random information and fills in notes in front of the class. Very monotone when speaking, can make it hard to engage.
Prof. Jordan is not as bad as many say at all. She lets you have a front and back cheat sheet for your online exams (all MC) and all of her lectures are posted online. The tests being 80% of your grade isn't great but as long as you make a good cheat sheet, they're straight forward. Lecture heavy because of the amount of content she needs to cover.
Overall no bad. The only bad thing I could say is that the test were not good. They were harder than all of our practice.
Alright, let me start by saying accounting itself is not an easy subject for many students. I will say, she cares about her job, she's personable, and no matter who you take it with, accounting is not easy. It's no hand-out, but all the resources to do well are right there on canvas, her syllabus is fair, really, everything is fair.
The reviews are pretty dramatic, Prof Jordan is not the worst at all. ACCT is not easy and it's not easy to teach. She does an alright job but you will have to work outside of class to have a full understanding. If you're taking ACCT 200, you will most likely have her as a prof but don't let the reviews scare you, she's fine and you'll do great!
Professor Jordan gets a bad wrap just because introductory accounting can be boring topic-wise. She is actually a good teacher if you pay attention, and as long as you do, you'll be fine in the class. The tests can be a little tough since they''re multiple choice and most of the work in the class is fill-in-the-blank, but they're doable.
I took this course online, and although her recorded lectures were helpful, they were very long and hard to pay attention to. I got near 100s on everything except the tests and still ended up with nearly a C because the tests are weighted so heavy.
Honestly don't understand why everyone dogs on her. She teaches the material well and provides all the resources to succeed. I will say the course is def test heavy which isn't great for bad test takers like myself. Completely my fault that I finished with a B and would say an A is extremely attainable. Wish the school would hire more acct profs.
I took this class online and it was a difficult class. However, I liked Latonya the people who don't like her are the people who don't want to take the time to learn accounting and the class content. It is a ton of information, and it is unfortunate that tests are worth 80% of your grade, but making an A is achievable. Latonya is a very likeable
Professor Jordan is very knowledgeable, but does not do well teaching information for beginners. I found that the practice we did in class as well as the homework questions were never similar to the ones seen on the exams. She is also unsympathetic towards any sort of issues that may interfere with her class and its work load.
I bet Latonya is a really great person, her teaching style on the other hand is not. It definitely didn't feel like an intro level course. She teaches like she is teaching a room full of CPAs that have 10 years experience. She is most likely the only professor available so don't wait to get a tutor and don't be afraid to ask for help.
Latonya is not a good teacher. This class was very difficult. The lectures were confusing and I was lost from the start. I tried to catch up myself but it was to no avail. Exams are 80% of your grade so beware if you're a bad test taker. I would not take her and take the class at a community college.
Very sweet lady, she gets a bad rep she really does care about your learning and will meet with you and help as much as she can although unfortunately she is not good at lecturing and makes what seems to be a simple class very confusing and difficult. Try to take a different prof but if you can't, don't worry. She is sweet and youll be fine
I would never recommend her to anyone. Her class is weighted 80% exams and does the bare minimum when it comes to her lectures. All she does is circle/underline words in her power point slides to "teach" you the content. No extra credit opportunities are available, don't bother asking. I would rather drop out than take her course again.
there are 4 tests, but they are worth a HUGE portion of your grade-like 80%. I took this class online which made it way harder than in person. She's not bad, just a bit dull in lectures so it was hard for me to pay attention, but she's happy to answer questions and does practice problems in class. u definitely need to watch the videos online!
She made exams around 80% of everyone's overall grade. The lectures are just her doing fill-in-the-blanks.
Not engaging whatsoever and teaches assuming that you already know how to do everything accounting related.
I get why people give bad reviews but I personally did not think it was too bad. The content just clicks with some people. Not an easy class by any means but it was not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I do think she changed her exams though based on what my friends told me so don't be scared!
Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go. The class is very exam based, 80%. They really are not as bad as everyone says. All you need to do is study the notes and listen to what she says in class and you will be fine. She also posts her lectures if you can't make it. (BTW there are clickers, but they don't count for your grade)
Absolutely terrible. If there is another option I would suggest you take it. I'm not sure that I am gonna pass this class this semester. Avoid her if you can.
Nice person but a HORRIBLE professor. The tests are 80% of the grade and barely correlate with anything she goes over in her lectures. Learn everything through the textbook if you want to pass the tests. I have never had an instructor who actively hurt my learning of the material more than she did.
Not a bad online class if you watch the lectures - but there's a lot of material covered so could get tricky if you get behind.
Take this class at a community college. Hands down. Latonya isn't a bad person, but she is a rough professor. She teaches entry level accounting as if you have multiple years of work experience and are coming back for your masters. Her lectures are long and boring, and she just does fill in the blanks and circles stuff. DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE.
Good person, worst professor. Was supposed to be a beginner level class. Uses terms novices dont know and doesn't explain them, 4 tests worth 80% of grade, all too complicated and not enough study materials offered. Bane of my existence. Never gotten a C- in any class in my life. Hope UTK offers different professor for this course in the future.
Don't have enough words to describe how bad this class was. Truly an awful teacher and hard to reach online. Says she won't put certain material on test and then does it anyways. Anyone who says the class is fine is either lying, or they already have accounting experience. Hope I never have to encounter this professor again in my lifetime. Beware.
Worst class, dont take it, professor Jordan is not a good teacher. She has no business teaching intro to accounting classes, she talks like everyone knows the material already
I took this class as a freshman, online, through Zoom (literally drop if this is going to be you). Accounting is overall twisted, and P. Jordan goes through too many examples that aren't on the test and only goes over one or two that actually are. Tests were worth 80% of the final grade, and therefore I STRONGLY recommend going to SI sessions.
While I didn't really enjoy it and wouldn't take it again, I don't get what all the absolutely terrible reviews here are about. She's an okay professor and could def do more to help you understand/succeed, but overall her class is doable as long as you stay on track with lectures. It wasn't fun or easy, but it's not as awful as it sounds on here.
Hardest class I've taken at UTK.
Worst professor I've ever had. No matter how much I studied or took notes based on what she said, the test material would always be so different. I would spend hours preparing and never did well. She's is awful at explaining things and talks as if we're supposed to know everything already. UT needs a new acct professor ASAP!
Worst professor I have ever taken at UTK. I went to class, read the book, and went to her office hours. She was so unhelpful and although she is nice she cannot explain things well to people who know nothing about accounting. This has been the hardest class I have ever had to take and I had to drop it and take it at Pelli to get my credit.
I would not take her because she did not explain concepts or help online students. I think the tests were very difficult despite studying and rewatching videos I did horrible on the test. It's better taking it at another college and getting a credit.
Professor Jordan teaches accounting as if we're all CPAs already. The course is super difficult, with 80% of the grade coming from exams that barely match the lectures. Thankfully, tools like Unstuckstudy helped me prep efficiently for the tests.
I graduated last December and still have nightmares about this class. Avoid at all costs.
At the beginning the this course I was initially soo scared based off of these reviews but nearing the semester I find it so hard to agree with any of the reviews. Yes, accounting may be a harder topic to understand but she is always open to questions and is so sweet. She will literally go over anything you need and goes over topics multiple times.
Professor Jordan definitely knew her stuff, I disagree with a lot of the reviews, bc she is a great professor and is open to any questions! However, accounting is a hard subject in general, so it's definitely on the harder side of the courses I've taken. Tests are worth 80% and there are 4, so pay attention in class, study, and watch the videos!
I disagree with all of these reviews. She, as a teacher, is great. It's the content that is difficult bc it builds on as you go and takes comprehending the concepts to do well. Definitely take in person, print off her PowerPoint notes, and utilize the TA if you have questions. You get a notes sheet for exams and the final isn't cumulative!
She gets so many terrible reviews, but I don't know what more she could do. Accounting is not the easiest class, but it is also not the hardest. If you are having a hard time she is available outside of class and will work with you until you get it. The hardest thing about this class is that exams are 80% of your grade.
The subject sucks but she doesn't. Class and office hours were 5/5. Encourages students to ask questions in class. The knowledge she gives out is crucial! She tries her best to make accounting be a lil bit easier but it's crucial that you the student try to grasp the basics in the 1st 3-4 wks. I just didn't like how exams held too much weight.
she's super nice but explains things as if you already know it. tests are 80% of your grade no extra credit no curve. i'm a straight A student and still did poorly on tests despite studying 17+ hours and devoting my entire life to the exams every single time. hard to hate her because she's so nice but take this class at pelli.
I couldn't recommend her less. I would take a higher level course simply to avoid having to deal with her
I want to cry everytime I hear her voice. She is terrible. I am begging you, please take someone else.
All of the reviews that are above a 2, are probably written by Latonya herself. Ignore the, she is that bad. All she does is read off of the slides, she can't answer questions well. She is the worst professor that I have had at UTK.
Accounting is a hard topic. Professor Jordan answers all questions, is accessible, and is a kind person. The videos and textbook homework assignments are extremely helpful. I had a good experience in the class.
I was not a fan of this class. There were not enough in person slots available, so I had to take it via zoom. The lectures were not interesting, and it was difficult to ask questions over zoom. There was no real student teacher relationship, but there are no other accounting teachers at this school.
The class itself is not a hard class… but you do have to teach yourself pretty much all the material considering she speeds through her lectures. ALSO if you ever have a technical issue during an exam expect NO HELP… have never dealt with a more unprofessional professor.
It's a shame she's basically the only professor available for this course. Doesn't care about her students.
Difficult exams, and lectures feel like the longest hour to hour fifteen ever.
Worst professor on campus.
Ms. Jordan was so helpful and she always responded to my emails within 48 hours. Make sure you stay on track and do all the assignments before studying for the exam. Overall, I would recommend taking her over a winter mini or anytime online.
extremely hard, goes fast
Professor Jordan is a nice person but not a great teacher. All she does is fill in the blanks and doesn't really teach how to do the problems. The tests are extremely hard and worth 80% of your grade. Better off taking at another college or with another professor. It took me 3 times to pass it. Never again.
My mom is an accountant, and I had to facetime her for help on all the assignments/studying. My mom also said the way she is teaching this class makes it so much harder for the students to learn and she had to reteach me a lot of topics. You either get it or you don't I don't feel like there is an in between
please listen to the reviews. take this course with literally anybody else.
If I had the choice of getting hit by a campus bus or taking this course again... I would probably take this course again but it would be a pretty tough call
Don't listen to the bad reviews. She was one of the funniest professors I've ever had. The class material isn't easy, but she did a really good job of breaking it down. Very open to questions. Truly a gem. I will say, don't take the class online. The material is too challenging to get from an online course. Clicker questions, but not bad at all.
Your grade is dependent on exams and she teaches as if you already understand the basics of accounting. It is very confusing and you will have to teach yourself almost everything.
Took her class last semester and still have nightmares. Avoid her at all cost.
Professor Jordan gives you all the resources you need to understand (textbook, practice problems, videos). She may skip over a few details that show up on tests, but any you need to know will be in the textbook. If you don't understand something, ask, she will answer until you get it. 1st test is broad and the rest are more specific and shorter.
I have never stressed and became so mentally drained over a 200 level course. You can study for 40 days and 40 nights, get 100s on all assignments and still do bad in this course. Test weight is very heavy and Professor Jordan is a you know it or you don't professor. When going to the TA for help his response was just the same.
whatever you do just DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Take anyone else for the sake of your GPA. You can study every day for hours and still do bad. Grade mostly relies on the exams. I've never hated a class more. Talks way too fast and exam material is nothing we learn in class.
Any of the complaints here are prob on an online class. Take her in person and you'll see that she is actually a great professor the content is just difficult to understand in general because it's all situational. Trust I was nervous to take her, but I've had a better time than my friends in 203 because this content is much simpler to understand.
I did take her online class, so the in person one might be different, but this class was actually horrible. Prof Jordan went over basically everything that wasn't on the test, so if you do take her class I suggest reading the textbook and figuring it out on your own.
Good person and that is about it.
Do NOT take this course online. I took this course online and the lectures are very poorly optimized, difficult to understand, and the course moves along very quickly. I ended up teaching myself most of the content. Exams will be a large portion of your grade. She is likable though, and I wish I was able to take this course in-person.
She is nice and the homeworks she gives are easy enough to pass, but the exams are very hard. You have to pay very close attention to the lectures to get anywhere in the class. Do the homeworks because there is no other assignments.
I really liked her, the homework and videos go well with the lectures. Join the SI sessions for the class for more help like practice tests, but she allows for a cheat sheet which is super helpful. All of her lectures are also recorded for review. This is a controversial opinion but I really do like her and she makes the class as easy as she can
remember that scene in mean girls with regina george and the burn book. yeah thats how i feel
Growing up, I had to go through the pain of watching my father have a heart attack. This experience only comes second to accounting 200 with Latonya Jordan. The style she teaches is like trying to watch Super Bowl 53. It's terribly unorganized and teaches the class in a way that makes the material hard to understand.
She's a really sweet person, yet I would not want her as my professor again. She goes really fast, and the SI instructor was the only reason I understood what we were being taught. This wasn't the worst class I've ever taken, you just have to attend all classes and do the work outside of class.
I did not do well in this class, and I would say that was mostly my own doing. Professor Jordan did a good job. I was completely online and I was able to watch the lectures and go back when things did not make sense. She is straightforward and clear, thus a good teacher. Don't just memorize, understand/study the material and go to study sessions!
Professor Jordan made accounting easy to understand. She went through difficult topics slowly and made sure there was time fo
Professor Jordan is great! I understood the material from her lectures and did not need any outside help. Honestly, I did not attend class after the first exam, and I still got an A. All of the lectures were posted online and attendance was not graded. Cheat sheets are allowed on exams. Class was way easier than ratings make it seem.
This class should be studied psychologically. The way it's taught is seriously beyond me. I went to office hours where I found Professor Jordan and was quickly and frantically redirected to someone my age who was a so-called "tutor" with about the same knowledge as me. Tenure should be outlawed for people like this.
Take any other accounting class besides her's its the worst class I've taken so far
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She does not teach and the reviews do not reflect the content on the test.
Professor Jordan does not teach the class. All of the homework assignments are videos from a different teacher, who gives a real lecture to take notes on. In Jordan's own lectures, she adds nothing of value and gives a worthless gloss over of videos. Not sure why she's even the instructor if everyone is learning from a completely different guy.
This class was like landing hot, opening 5 chests, all gray pistols. Prof gave zero pings, zero comms, felt like solo squadding against champs w/ no meds. Tests were storm surge w/ no warning. Assignments felt like getting boxed & one pumped off spawn. Would not queue again. Total L lobby.
This class felt like solo queuing ranked w/ randoms who insta-lock Cav and roam 3 floors away. Prof never droned or pinged, zero intel, zero comms. Tests were surprise nitro cells from below, no sound cue. Assignments were like trying to plant w/ no smokes & no map control. Would not re-queue. Total 0/5 L stack.
A plus is you don't need a 93 for an A, only a 90. She's nice, but not a great explainer. If you are signed up for hybrid, GO IN PERSON OR ELSE YOU ARE COOKED. It's not too difficult of a class, the difficult part is that she isn't good at explaining. Also her slides have a lot of grammatical issues, and she moves fast which makes it hard to grasp.
Overall, very difficult class. There's only one hw assignment per unit, and no study guide before exams. There's supplemented instruction that's twice a week outside of class that I would highly recommend going to, since that's where more hands-on work will be given. Doesn't really teach during lecture, just fills in the blanks in the note guide.
This is my second time taking her because i literally failed the first time i took this class. She acts like she does not want to be teaching and you can always tell if she's in a good mood or a bad mood. Her tests are quite difficult, but more than anything her lectures are hard to follow. I wish UTK would hire more accounting 201 professors.
I thought she was doing her best to help us understand
boring and lectures whole class in monotone voice. doesnt explain or teach well. material is hard to grasp and she just sounds like she is reading from a textbook
Honestly just a meh teacher. Lecture heavy and test heavy and you'll want to make sure you do good on exams they are 80% your grade. Right now not many other options so put the effort in. The HW and videos feel tedious and her lectures are fill in the blank style and easy to zone out and just forget what was learned. Not as bad as some claim tho
The tests are easy if you just watch the lectures. It's really not that bad
I like her
She's very good and if you go to her lectures you're going to know what you're doing on the exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but it's very worth it to go or at least watch the recorded lectures on canvas before the exams. I would 100% take her class again.
TAKE THE CLASS BUT GO TO SI/TUTORING. This class sucked! She is the only Acct200 professor and can't teach. She tries to make the lectures easy for people to understand by using slide shows and fill in the blanks but it didn't help me learn. I ended up spending all my time in the SI sessions and with a tutor to maintain my grade.
Definitely would NOT willingly do this again. Not unbearable, but just not fun in the slightest. Personally did not like her note taking style. Exams are fairly difficult. Only offers o
I am pretty indifferent to Professor Jordan. I don't think she is a bad professor, but if you struggle with this subject, you will need to get outside help. I will say, after dealing with professors who can't communicate to save their lives, I appreciate her over-communication.
