Nice and smart, just don't make her mad! Most of the time she has a point but I don't think she necessarily needs to be as harsh as she is! Does not tolerate talking during class, which is refreshing. Has been very helpful any time I have had a problem or question, and gives easy tips to doing well on exams.

Awesome prof, hard exams though. You have to study hard and read the textbook. She has some rules in the class that most profs don't. If she sees you whispering in class you get a warning. You're kicked out next time. hah. She makes the subject interesting and funny by adding vids and stories.

Easy course but not a fan of the group work. The group projects are harsh, people are encouraged to attack any of your statements, but very good prep for your thesis defense.

Although a great lecturer. THis professor shows immaturity as a professor and a lack of self control (especially in the debates). She teach us not to do everything she does. She is very offensive and makes the class uncomfortable for others.SInce she is the only one teaching the class we are not given an option to opt out. A required class for Hon.

Difficult class, material is not common sense, therefore you must study. It is a huge work load. 4 test, 1 group-presentation, and 1 paper. The upside is She is very approachable and posts her notes and the tests are questions strictly from her notes. So the textbook is optional.

Very uptight attitude. Yelled at students for being late and talking and said she has kicked out students before. Class is taught by TA so you just need to come to class enough to do the iclicker. View the lectures online and take notes. Its tested. Read the textbook. Blended media isn't a good style set up.

Launa Leboe is not fit to be teaching adults because she treats them like they are children. On one occasion, she threatened to make the exams harder if people didn't participate. Yet when people participated they risked being publicly humiliated by her - especially when they questioned her dogmatic opinions. She's extremely moody. Worst prof ever.

Not a good teacher at all. Would not recommend to anyone. A course needed for the Honours, if able to take it with someone else do it!! She's very dogmatic in her way of teaching, she is Feminist and tries to empower herself. She will ridicule anyone anytime but if someone would try and ridicule her, they would suffer. Watch out!!! Bad teacher!!

This is one of the worst professors I've ever had. Very hard to approach. She sends out rude and snarky e-mails along the lines of "if you have a problem with me, get the heck out etc. definitely not a confidence booster for students. The blended media is a HORRIBLE set up. Waste of time and money. Try to avoid taking this class if you can...

Let me explain this I am not an idiot. Got an A in intro to calc, A in econ, B+ in english so far. Intro to psyc is the worst course ever. She is a horrible prof. Class is too hard for intro level, so far the class averages under her supervision are less than 60 percent. Wake up U of M!

I can't get over what a terrible prof she is. She gives a bad name to U of M. Perhaps if the prof took some time out to look into the class average (lowest class av. is 53%)she would put forth more of an effort to properly educate her students. Sad, sad.

E-mails she sends out are rude, class averages are low, good lecturer but obviously not working for her. Tests have at least 10 questions that were not on slides or in lecture - yet syllabus says "no required text book readings". She does not want her students to succeed, just wants to trick them on the tests.

I actually enjoyed this class. I found her information to be interesting, and I really appreciated that she did not waste our time by dragging out material. If it could be covered in 20 minutes, she did it and let us go. Most people I know did extremely well, but those that did not did very badly. Don't get on her bad side and you'll be fine.

She is a good lecturer. She makes complicated topics into an easy one. HOWEVER, her behaviour is not that great. She can get annoyed easily and also she is rude.

Her lectures make even complicated things clear, she is funny and keeps your interest. Exams are mostly lecture based and very fair. Very approachable and willing to answer questions after class. I don't have 1 complaint about her, best prof I've ever had.

Don't know who she is. Never saw her once. I took the blended media section so I only heard her voice through recored lecture. Class was taught by TA but pretty useless and boring, nobody went to class. Just listen to each lecture like 3 times at home (actually pay attention to it) and review the slides before exam, you will end up with A.

Great prof. Very funny. Keeps class interesting. Almost all test questions are based on lecture material. you need to clearly understand the concepts presented in class (with a key focus on the studies presented) in order to do well. All in all, I would definately take another one of her classes.

The course is supposed to be critical thinking, but students hardly do any. She needs to communicate with the T.A. more in regards to marking, as there was some form of confusion about expectations. Just a tip, if you are taking this class, present and say what she wants you to say. Otherwise, you'll have a horrible time.

As long as you say what she wants to hear you will be safe. If you want to state your own opinion and your opinion might be against her then oops...you are in big big trouble. She will humiliate you and use her authority as a professor to prove you wrong. The worst professor I had at the u of m. She def doesn't belong in an Honors classroom!!

This class is ridiculously easy, but despite this I have only negative things to say about Launa as a professor. She undermines all views that oppose hers and has no problem stating when she feels your values are wrong. It's ironic that the department selected their most judgmental professor to teach a critical thinking class.

Tests are inconsistent, got an A+ on the one and got a D in another. Some exams are super hard and some arent. Mixes up info from the text book and online lectures. So you have NO IDEA what the expectations are. Online Intimate Partner Violence blog info seems easy info but it was so complicated in the exam.

Extremely unapproachable professor. I sent her an email to ask about a question I didn't understand, and received a reply without a subject or greeting telling me that B was the correct answer, which is why there was no further info. Vague and unfriendly to students. Lecture recordings were endlessly awkward and uptight. Avoid prof at all costs

Blended media is awful. I can go into an exam having studied for hours or not at all, and I've ended up with the exact same mark on each exam. This is a waste of your time if it isn't mandatory towards your degree. Plus the instructors are rude and discourage you from asking for help. Avoid!!

To get an A you need, 85%+. It's stupid. They should make it to 80% and higher. Tests are not as easy as you think. You need to read the textbook, watch many boring ineffective video lectures, read their blogs, and an option to attend class each week. Very demanding course. I shouldn't have listened to my friends in taking this course.

It is 85% and over to get an A. It is also difficult to expect what is going to be on the exam because on average you have to cover 3 chapters (150+ pages) per exam, you have to read online blogs, and you have to watch video lectures that don't even cover exam material. I would not recommend taking this course.

Do not take this class , it is poorly set up and hard to find help in unless your very lucky and get a good section head. You will probably only see prof leboe on the first day and then never come in contact with her again. the online lectors ramble and go on about of topic stuff and make a poor attempt at humor. hard to get feed back

Technically this course is a so called "blended media" course. Either way, there are video lectures. Boring ones where you listen to the prof talk in a voice close to monotone. Material isn't well presented, and each tests requires you to read 3 chapters and a long blog plus the video lectures. Grading scheme unfair for a first year course.

Exams are harder than they should be. You get tired of it after about 4 months. You never make contact with her, you only ever talk to a TA.

Took online/mixed media/uncertain what to call it version of intro psych. Classes are pointless to attend, watched the online lectures and took textbook notes to earn a high grade. Exams took some getting used to, they have pointless questions about statistics that are never mentioned in lectures. You never talk to actual prof, disappointing.

Not really much to say as the lectures are video format however all tests were very straightforward multiple choice the course had a clear direction and followed a strict schedule. Went to her office once outside of class and she was somewhat cold but still helpful. All info can be found online or in textbook.

This class was so poorly organizedthought out. You NEED to watch the lecture videos, read the super long textbook, and read the blogs, if you want an A. A few of the test questions are super minor details that are irrelevant to the big picture. I recommend watching the lecture videos in double speed - it makes the profs' less monotonous.

Took the blended media class. Actual class is useless, no need to attend. Tests are based off of Video Lectures, Textbooks materials and the examples given in the textbook, and the blogs. The video lectures don't cover everything you need to know, so if you were only to watch them, the most you could get on a test is maybe 65%.

UH OH, don't go to this prof! She gave me the wrong syllabus and never said anything about it until feb! She's pretty rude as well! Says that this is an "online" course but you have to end up going to her dumb 1 hour class that lasts less than 10 minutes held by some jerk off instructor! DON'T TAKE HER COURSE. Most words not even pronounced right!

She will break your mind with her psychological mind tricks. I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had troubles attending the experimental credits. But instead of helping me, she used her Ph.D in Psyc to screw with my mind. Don't email her- she will use it against you in the future because she's really a person with APD in disguise.

Currently taking the version of this course where the lectures are videos. The content is easy to understand and the lecture delivery facilitates note taking, but the narration is stiff and borderline monotone.

I took the mixed lecture and online, where the she was less than helpful by email correspondence. The course was arranged like a some sort of medieval factory, giving you the textbook and lectures to use and wait to see who survives. There seemed to be no effort to stimulate genuine curiosity in the material, rather just pump kids through the class

Took the online/weekly lectures class. I really enjoyed it since I have already taken the course in high school and knew all the material. Reading the text book is a must as it gives more info, since the video lectures cannot cover all the material. Tests are really easy and just repeat questions. Use Quizlet to study for tests!

Average professor. Course is on the harder side. Carries herself like she is an industry leader in her field. Told us to buy textbook, didnt use it... there goes $100 just for use of the online cog labs. Also took this course after COMP 3020 (HCI) and this was a recommended course for it. Was totally unrelated, don't take it for COMP SCI.

Took the mixed online and in class course. I've never actually seen this prof during the whole semester but my course instructor was fantastic. Lots of time spent reading and listening to lectures(which are very long and boring). It's honestly quite a bit of work, but if you do it and study for the tests, it's a guaranteed pass.

I took the blended media version as well for this class, and the video lectures were pointless to watch as all the info can be found in the textbook. Her voice was also a pain to listen to. Just read through the textbook and make notes as you go, study those notes before the test, do the quizzes on the "mypsychlab" website, and you should be fine.

For anyone looking to take Cognitive Psychology don't take it with her! I paid $200 for the textbook and didnt even use it once. She based 10% of the grade on the coglab that came with the textbook though but i would have rather paid $50 just for that. The exams were extremely hard and took A LOT of studying. She contradicted herself all the time!

The online lectures taught by Launa are so horrendous that they make me wanna pull my hair out. Her reading is atrocious, and the material gets very dense for an introductory course. Each video lecture is an average of 30 minutes long and in total there are about 50 for the course. You're basically paying the prof to read to you through a screen.

You will spend most of your time watching the video lectures online or making notes from the textbook. Quizlet is your best friend here because there is a lot of information in this course. Additionally, they do not provide feedback on their exams (not even an answer key) so keep that in mind. Know the concepts inside and out and you will get an A.

This course was "for fun" and it wasn't. Online lectures were interesting but very long and heavy and hard to remember. Tests were multiple choice. I can't comment too much about teaching style, because everything was online and with (I believe) her husband, but I guess style is just ok. The TA was very good and made the class funnier tho.

They need to rethink their teaching strategy because a majority of the students hat take this course say its the worst one theyve taken. Step up and actually teach us something.

It was online lectures so I Never actually met Launa. I just read the textbook extremely well and stopped listening to the lectures or going to class in Part B and ended up doing better in that half. Questions on exam are very specific so know your stuff very well. Grading distribution is different - for an A you need an 85%. Easy A if you try!

Easiest exams I have come across at the u of m so far, she does not try to trick you whatsoever. the hardest part is the wide breadth of the topics and the crazy amount of terms (dont worry, just do the online practice questions). Besides the 2 exams, everything else is pass or fail (easy 100%). definition of an easy A+

I have never taken a more boring class in my life. our section instructor was monotonous, boring and didn't seem confident in the material. went way too quickly through slides and didn't post them on UM learn making it really hard to follow along in class. Video lectures by Lebowe-Mcgowan were excruciatingly painful to listen to as well.

Easy class if you study. Don't listen to anyone here who says she's a bad prof or that the course is difficult. You only "interact" with the prof through video lectures so you can't really judge her and I found them easy to follow anyways. If you do bad it's your own fault. Study the textbook terms, in-class lecture notes, and the online videos.

You actually never meet Launa because you get assigned section leaders. My TA was amazing and thorough. Honestly not sure why Launa is listed as the prof for PSYC1200 because she does nothing besides having her name on something. The TA's are the ones who deserve credit - class is an easy A if you read and put effort in

never even meet her the lectures are done by a TA and you have to watch stupid video lectures online of her or her husband that are so painful to listen to and dont even help. good luck trying to meet with her because she has no office hours.

Honestly probably been the most boring class I have ever taken at uom. Online videos are legit painful to watch and the "in class" portion is a ta flipping through slides like there's no tomorrow. Easy A+ if you like to study hundreds of flashcards / textbook terms and put the time in but god this class is the legit WOAT.

I cant say enough about how amazing she is. So many people skip class or dont buy the textbook and then complain that it is somehow her fault that they didnt succeed. She cares about students and will any student who puts forth their best effort. Great prof, great person!

Terrible honestly.. the course is online lecture based with once a week classes taught by a TA. With the coronavirus our research studies were cancelled and were supposed to be online. This gave less chance to get the credited needed for 8% and she didn't bother to extend the deadline of when we could receive credits until. This class is awful tbh

Professor Leboe-McGowan prepares the online lectures. The only reason she receives lower ratings here is that we never saw her in class, but thats just because thats not her personal responsibility. Her online lectures were easy to understand, and she tries to make it interesting when the content is dry. Put in the work and youll be fine.

Smart person but her teaching style is to bully students when they are wrong. Highly advise to limit talking with her in any format because she will do everything to put you down just to make herself feel good. Heartbreaking that she has tenure. Pathetic interpersonal skills for someone with a psychology degree.

She never shows up in class, always lets the TAs run the lectures. Can't reach by email. Her videos are pain the the neck to watch. Pay for the university but you mostly get the knowledge from the textbook. If you can take with someone else, please do cause you're gonna get bad grades if you take psychology courses with her.

Dropping 2 classes in. She doesn't teach her classes and has TAs do it. Didn't make it clear how online classes would happen for the first class, and the TA didn't show for the second class, and only sent us our classwork 4 hours late. Prof and TA didn't reply to emails.

This is my major course and I was extremely upset that I had to teach myself for a whole year now. Even her TA's are not good. TA comes a week and just gives answers. Have to watch her boring lectures but if you read, watch lectures, and practice quizzes, you will be golden. Easy class but not a good prof.

Did not watch online lectures, taught myself everything from the textbook and received 100% on all the quizzes so far. If you're up to reading every page of the textbook and teaching yourself then this class is for you but if you want to actually be taught by a prof find a different prof. Pretty easy class overall

prof sucks, I love psych but the way they taught it me made want to shot myself in the head. They had recorded their lectures before Covid and are absolutely awful. It' just reading of the textbook. I just cannot express the sheer amount disgust and horror I felt every time I had to watch one of the lectures. If you love psych DON'T GET THIS PROF

The lectures she provided for the fall term are super old and cringy. It makes me want to rip my hair out. The book is super helpful though and that's what's getting me through the course. I wouldn't recommend this professor. I love psychology but this professor is making me think otherwise.

shes not a bad prof but its just her lecture videos are kinda old and they talk slow so i had to skip through them a lot. i mostly used the textbook and it is very helpful during a quiz or the exam. i love psyc but shes just not someone id recommend. it is an easy A if u study the textbook and understand the definitions and all that

Her recorded lectures are very hard to listen to. Very informative but dragged out and puts you to sleep. Really easy class, but if you dont have the info from the lectures you probably wont pass the quizzes/exams.

The professor comes off as lazy, as you do not actually ever meet her. The online lectures are soo dry, which is extremely disappointing for such an amazing subject. This professor actually made me turned off by the material rather than being interested in the material before the course started. I can't wait for this class to be over at this point

Never met her. Have any questions? She'll get you to email other people before answering herself. She is the last resort. Lecture videos she posts are extremely old. I have been teaching myself in this course. Her quizzes and exams are worded terribly, they make you feel like you know nothing. Strict for a prof that barely even teaches in class.

Professor Mc-Gowan's class is run by her TAs, meaning you never really get to meet her. This class was open book and self taught, which has its pros and cons attached to it. You can go at your own pace, but it's hard to stay motivated. The lectures were hard to watch, and they drag on. Okay class to take, but there's better profs out there.

Very impersonal course. You will never meet the prof and there lectures are 6 years old and all examples are not relevant to the present day. Horribly boring to listen too. Would be a great course if you take it with a different prof.

Took the class in-person in 2018. She rushed through every lecture which made it difficult to keep up. Never posted the slides on UM Learn and would refuse to tell you what you missed, so be sure to make a friend in the class. Marks were based solely on a test every other week. Wording on questions was sometimes tricky.

Awful prof to say the least. Posts old lectures that are dated 5 years ago and when we use information from the newest edition textbook marks as wrong. Uses the fact that I didn't watch lectures as a fact to not explain why the question was wrong. Online classes are already stressful and having a rude prof makes it worse.

She somehow made psychology boring. The lectures are essentially copyrighted videos of monotone textbook readings from 2016, with funky intro music. No teacher interaction or feedback at all. Grading is clear, easy to complete. Lectures can sub for the textbook. 1.25 speed!!! No critical thought required, you're regurgitating information for marks.

I honestly feel like her grading scale is really unfair. Everything is self taught and makes it seem even harder since were left with no guide except our own. Meaning, we have to do every single thing on our own. Looking at her grading scale makes us feel like we have to put double the effort. I feel like the professor should be the one teaching.

Stubborn is an understatement. This professor can have a 100 students email her in regards to the same thing and will not take something into consideration. Very unclear as to what is right or wrong. Dated lectures from 2016 and expects you to purchase an updated textbook that is supposedly wrong because she says so. An absolute joke!

I loved this class. It was due in large part to the textbook being interesting rather than putting me to sleep like usual. Since the book covered 99% of what was on the tests I rarely watched the lectures but they were good. Some students only watched the lectures and they liked that, so you can choose which way of learning is best for you.

This class was extremely boring. The lectures were pre recorded videos from 2016 and were not great. As a visual learner I struggled following along with the monotone videos and read the textbook instead. Never heard from this prof except a week before exams or if enough people had the same question to ask. The TA was awesome though!

The course material was very intriguing so I personally really enjoyed reading the book. Ngl, but I never watched a single lecture after Chapter 1 because they were absymal and did well on all exams and quizzes with the book alone. DO NOT take this course if you're expecting live lectures or interaction with prof. because that doesn't happen.

Took the distanced course and distance is an understatement. Prof sends out a mass email maybe 4 times throughout the sem. Found a PDF of the textbook online so that wasn't an issue. As long as you go over the material and maybe skim through the pre-recorded 2016 lecture videos she provides (LOL) you should be fine

All you need to do is read the textbook to pass. 99% of quizzes and exams were based on the textbook, and the questions are fairly straight forward. I watched maybe 2 lectures total. The lectures are long, boring and don't contain a lot of the information you need to know.

Her online lecture videos were very scripted, making them less interactive and boring. I loved the content of this class, but not the way it was instructed. The quizzes were taken straight out of the textbook practice. This didn't help with exam prep. The questions are either easy and obvious or weird examples that don't make sense. Not for me.

Dr. Leboe Mcgowan is good at teaching material, and is fairly transparent with expectation for what to expect in testing. The tests themselves (three of them) can be quite difficult, and require understanding the material rather than just memorizing. She also gives 25% of your mark in assignments which you can use as part of your studying

She is a very good professor. I took cognitive psychology with her for the winter 2023 term. Buying the textbook is mandatory, and within the textbook you have to do quizzes 15% of your grade which as long as you do them is a guaranteed 100%. You also have to do labs within the textbook 10%. The rest is 3 term exams which is focused on the textbook

You HAVE to study the material and gain knowledge about the deep structure of the information within her class. If you do not take the time to study especially for cognitive psychology, there is a chance you will not do well. She is very strict on academic integrity, so it is high suggestion you do not pull any shenanigans. I enjoyed the class.

Dr. Leboe is everything that you would want in a university professor. She upholds high standards for her students, luckily as a result of this, her students actual know the material she presents in class. There are 15 quizzes, textbook labs, and 3 tests (25%, 30%, 20%). She is very knowledgable about the material, and answers questions in depth.

I am not sure why Dr. Launa Leboe-McGowan has a low-rating. Her class is definitely more difficult than other psychology classes but if you put in the effort, there is no reason you should come out with a bad grade. Overall, she explains things well and is always willing to answer any questions you have about the subjects being discussed.

I personally was not a fan of this professor mostly just during the tests, she would constantly be raising her voice telling people to not look at other people's papers or to keep their heads down and it was very distracting when you are trying to take your test. Overall the content can be interesting but the test-taking environment was not great.

Challenging course but I learned a lot and genuinely became a better student because of it. Can be intimidating but she's a good prof who grades quite generously and wants students to put in the work and succeed. A lot of work (and pressure) but it really pays off. Do the readings, be prepared, and get ready to talk!
