Do not take her! One time in class, a few students asked her out to complete a project and her response was somewhere along the lines of - okay, you guys should'nt be asking these questions, go do it yourself and ask me next class. I mean, isn't the point of going to class is to learn from the teacher? theres better english teachers out there
She was a great and nice prof. She's really into feminism in academics and we all found that to be interesting. Would recommend!
Loved her!
If you have an opinion, and its not hers, don't take this class. Shes so flighty and out of it. She stresses the same concepts over and over again, and makes you read lots of material that's in the end, irrelevant. She makes a huge deal if people are late, but shes late all the time....
i am not kidding. DO NOT TAKE WMST WITH THIS PROFESSOR!! If I'm making an effort to warn all of you (which i rarely do)than i think you should listen! This is a class where you conform to HER views! If you have an opinion that's not hers you're screwd on exams. NO ONE TAKE THIS CLASS!! SHE SHOULD BE FIRED!!
okay yeah...it's not don't take this class it's more like ...don't take this class with HER! HORRIBLE! will shoot myself before i have to do that again. i was stupid. i read comments on here and took her class anyway thinking it won't be that bad and that people here were exaggerating. it really was THAT bad. don't make the same mistake i did.
she is average
If you don't want to hear about feminism, don't take her course. I've never been so hammered with one unbelievably biased opinion in my life.
She used alot of pointless youtube videos during class, and was ill prepared for class often. She is a hard marker!!! im sure there are wayyy better english profs out there
I really enjoy her teaching style, i think she is wonderful! her teaching methods are a different but its nice for a change to see a different teaching method, and you can tell she really truely enjoys what she does! Definatly reccomend
Not sure what to make of her. Unlike other prof's, and perhaps rightfully so, she is not there to be your friend. At the same time, she IS there to instruct. Very knowledgeable, very helpful. BUT... I just can't wrap my mind around her mood swings. Then again, I can not wrap my head around my mood swings!! All in all, average.
She's smart. If you truly, want to be a better writer take her class.(narrative & research) She's not an easy marker, but she's not impossible either. She commands respect in class--NO TALKING ; )
No one should take a class that she teaches. She seems to judge students more on how much they like her rather then on their work and won't clarify her expectations for assignments. If you HAVE to take her class act like she's the greatest teacher ever. It might mean the difference between a pass and a fail.
Absolutely loved her. She was very intelligent and brought new ideas to the class. Taught very much needed information that should be taught more often. Not as scary as people make her sound, actually really down to earth.
Extremely biased and judgmental. Condescending towards students.Intimidating. Plays favourites. Honestly the worst teacher I have ever had at Mount Royal. If you want to learn, do not take this class as you only learn to side with her opinion.
she is a very challenging teacher, she has her "days" where she can be in the worst mood. if you want to pass i recommend sucking up but not overly a teachers pet or then she will call you out. CARE about your grade, she likes people that want to improve. She is very judgemental however if you work hard you will somehow pass with her.
she is a very challenging teacher, she has her "days" . if you want to pass i recommend sucking up but not overly a teachers pet or then she will call you out. CARE about your grade, she likes people that want to improve. if you work hard you will somehow pass with her.
she is a very tough teacher, she has her "days" . if you want to pass i recommend sucking up but not overly a teachers pet or then she will call you out. CARE about your grade, she likes people that want to improve.
Laura is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She will not give you a clear idea of what is expected, but believe me she will dock marks from you if you do not read her mind and give her what she wants. When you do receive feedback from her it is ambiguous at best. Save yourself, there are far better teachers for Tech Writing out there
I don't know what you are all getting in such a fuss about. She's great. She challenges you and she is serious. If you want an easy grade go elsewhere. But if you want to learn, she's smart and is an amazing teacher. Not hard on the eyes either.
Terribly condescending and biased. Used the class to watch youtube videos and preach feminist thought. Impossible to disagree with. One of the worst instructors I have ever had.
She calls herself a feminist and then addresses the class - including groups of women - as "you guys". Go figure!
Tough but fair. She is a knowledgeable feminist who does not put up with crap in the classroom. She cares about womyn as a class and it shows in her teaching. She's tough but if you don't want to do work, get out of university. She has a zero tolerance for BS, i recommend her class for serious feminists.
An excellent teacher. She marks hard, but she is fair. Attend class, listen, and participate, then you will get an A. As for personality, she is very nice, and stops to talk to me even though I am finished with her class. Recommended.
I actually found her marking to be completely unfair. She is very opinionated so when writing exams or papers be sure to only write favouring her opinions or you will fail. She did keep class interesting though. I heard from others that she's horrible if she doesnt like the class, so watch out for that.
Laura is one of the best profs I have ever had, but do not take her course unless you are interested in the topic and willing to WORK for the grade. She can come across a bit brash, but she is a great person, who I really admire. I took her women and aging course a few years ago, and I have never had a prof I learnt so much from.
Seemed disorganized, which made class harder as it is a very dyr (but required) subject
Laura is a hard marker but as long as you attend class and are respectful when she's teaching then you'll do fine. Great class and I would highly recommend it.
A+ Prof is organized and clear! Cool course and topics and assignments. But you have to work hard and MUST think critically. Show up, do the readings and speak up in class and see her during office hours. Totally helpful if you ask
I didn't think the course would be so interesting. Laura has a really good way to connect theory to the real world and is easy going. She does not give away an A easily but she gives you everything she can to make this possible. Recommend!
This is a class that will teach you something about your world. No textbooks or dry power point lectures, Laura gets straight to the heart of an issue and explores it thoroughly. Show up, pay attention and contribute occasionally and you'll do fine. Not just for women either!
Laura is great! No, it's not an easy mark, but we pay a lot for our education so we might as well learn while we're there! The topics are interesting and I find her very approachable.
Loved this prof and the class! Taking another one next semester!
Laura is great! There are only 5ish assignments and papers through the whole semester (including the final and midterm). The project and papers she assigns are fun and engaging. This is NOT a boring class. She makes the class into a little community. She is one of my favourite professors. If you work hard and show enthusiasm you will do really well
I had to take this Tech writing and thought I'd hate it. Can't say I loved it but Laura was great. She is real and down to earth. She made the course about everyone's personal career interests in a really cool way. She's not easy on grading but she gives 100% before any assignment and helps during office hours.
LOVED Laura and this course. Learned a lot and also how to write better essays. HATED the 8 am class time.
Awful, just awful! If you want to pass don't EVER miss a class, if you do she will refuse to help you! If you don't like english she won't like you! If she does offer help you can only see her once a week for her hour of office hours and it will be lined up because know one knows what's going on! Just avoid this prof!
Probably one of the worst teachers I've had. She is VERY opinionated and if you do not share that opinion with her, you wont do well. Class time is wasted by watching youtube videos. What could be a 45 minuet class is almost two hours long. I still have yet to learn anything, and yet she is a ruthless marker. Avoid her at all costs.
Terrible! Very unclear in what she wants done for projects! Lectures are very dry and she is incredibly dull! Do not take a class from her! She gives terrible marks if you don't share her opinion on an essay or personal response!
I took Lauras English class and thought she was amazing. She is extremely clear as to what she wants, and offered in class help TWICE for essays and annotated bibliographies where she basically rewrote what you had done. She is completely fair in how she marks as well. I saw my english GREATLY improve. Show up to class and you'll great
Laura is brilliant! As a 4th year SLGY major with an 'A' focus--GPA of 3.95 --I still learned so much from this class. Laura is a wonderful personable academic coach. The 'A'earned in this class is due to her inspiration and coaching that will apply in many areas of life. It is amazing to see feminist pedagogy at work. MRU is lucky to have her
Laura is a wonderful prof. She offers help and makes sure she is available if you need her. Very quick with responding to emails & crystal clear in what she expects from you. Come to class, participate, and do the work and you're guaranteed an A!
This professor is awful. I expected to learn some insight into women in history, and be educated on how women are gaining traction in the world. A huge disappointment. She was vague, opinionated, and did not teach women's studies, she taught he opinion on the matter.
Laura is very particular with what she wants you to do, but is not clear about instructions in class. If you utilize her office hours she will be more than happy to help you and you will definitely do well in her class. She is extremely opinionated, so if you want to do well just nod your head and agree with what she says.
Worst prof ever. DO NOT take a class with her! Not only is she a tough grader, your opinion doesn't matter in her class, and she will always tell you you're wrong. I had to drop her class because she was constantly arguing with me over my opinion on ANY matter.
She is really clear on everything and she is an easy grader. assignments are fairly easy. However, if you miss 3 classes or more, you will fail. She is huge on participation and respect. Doesn't get mad if you're late, however it will affect your participation grade that is worth 5%. nice but likes to text during class and you can hear her phone
you have to work in this class for a GNED but it's worth it!
Participation is huge, but she won't bother to learn your name or remember you. Her opinions and answers leave no room for discussion. Her classes are unprepared and her class notes are very disorganized. BE WARNED, you cannot book a guaranteed time slot with her outside OR inside her office HOUR. It is first come first serve. Worst Class. Drop.
Do not recommend her at all. Felt like I didn't learn anything. She is NOT clear on what she wants for assignments and when you ask her to explain what she does want, she is no help.
Laura is one of the most inspiring profs I have had so far at MRU. She is very kind and her approach to teaching is great, her lectures are inspiring and as long as you get involved in what she is teaching and you have a passion for equality and what is going on in the world you will ace this class!
She is super nice, and her lectures aren't boring. Super informative in everything she teaches. Would definitely take any of her classes again. Can be a hard marker, but there are a ton of assignments to make up for any loss marks.
I've had Laura Twice for various women studies course. She is a phenomenal Professor, and classes are always interesting. She is probably one of my favourite professors on campus. She is extremely respectful and creates a great class dialogue. Even though she has like a million students, she's always tries to remember your name.
Ahh i dunno. She's OKAY. She is a fun teacher. She isn't that of a good teacher but If you do work and participate.. I repeat PARTICIPATE. You should be fine. Don't be lazy. I have mixed feelings about her :/ she's not horrible. But she's not great. I kind of like her, but she's not on my top 10. I'd take her class again though. Cause shes chill.
After 4 years at MRU, I can confidently say Laura was the worst prof I ever had. Unclear on her expectations. Refused to accept opinions that differed from her own - in lectures and for assignments. Ill prepared for lectures. Not authoritative/knowledgeable on material. Used Google more often than scholarly research. If you value academia, avoid.
She's well open to various opinions. She's a grammar fanatic so your papers will have lots of grammatical correction. She took the time to ask if things were okay with me when I got a lower mark on an easy paper - I read the instructions wrong. She's awesome and very kind. Her papers aren't difficult at all especially since the class is simple.
Took her english 30 class. Improved my grammar & essay writing skills greatly. Just show up for class, pay attention, don't try to argue with her and you will do good. She keeps the class pretty interesting and is a nice person overall.
Laura is the sweetest. Participation is important and is nice because she is engaging and kind - she answers and looks up extra, out of course content, if it arises. She offered a lot of feedback on papers and wrote her own ideas and extra information about the topic too! After one class, we still stop and chat quite often.
Regardless you work hard, you will never get any grade above 60. worst class I ever had
I took Laura's class in the spring. Even though I only spent 2 months with her, I would definitely take her during the semesters. She is an amazing prof and the topics she brings up really brings out awareness and makes you think about your everyday life. She takes the time to explain everything clearly and cares about your learning.
She is the worst prof I've ever had. She was unprepared and REGULARLY talked down to students. She pushed her opinion as the only thing that mattered. She was aggressive, confrontational, unapproachable and rude. She also regularly stopped class to ask what people were typing, as they took notes. Very distracting and overall unprofessional prof!
I personally think Laura is confused about just life. She seems lost and unsure about everything she is teaching. She plays the favoritism card if she likes you she's nice to you if not be prepared to hate your life in her class.( basically degrades you or makes you feel stupid in front of the class ). DO NOT RECOMMEND HER
Laura is absolutely amazing. all you have to do is contribute to conversation and be engaged. She is always willing to help when needed.
I don't mind her. She's not the best, but she's not the worse.. She is average. She really isn't a bad prof. If you want an A, just work hard like an A student, if you want a D. work like a D student. I really don't think she was a bad prof. Hard to get an A. but quite east to get a B-. She's really not THAT horrible. She's fine.
Laura is the best prof I've ever had. Her lectures were incredible and I really enjoyed getting to know her on a personal level too. She is such a caring, intelligent and insightful person. She really pushed me to believe in myself and do well. Honestly, she showed me I am capable of doing well in University. Such an inspiration. I owe her a lot.
Laura is honestly a very sweet person and I found her to be easily approachable. The only downside is that her grading criteria of what she expects on papers is suuuper unclear and she tends to come a little unprepared some days. Overall I did enjoy her as a professor just get ready for a lot of papers
Took writing about images with Laura. I personally found lectures to be very interesting and would learn something new every class! Essays were easy and the final is take home! VERY VERY little homework!
Worst prof at MRU. Completely unprepared. You must follow her beliefs and opinions and regurgitate them word for word. Some love her, but I'm not one of them. Beware. She also has not completed her phd... so task completion is one-sided.
This course felt like a complete waste of time. Should have taken a different section. Laura seemed under prepared and her grading was peculiar to say the least.
I have had 3 courses with Laura during my time at MRU and she is honestly one of the best profs I've had. She provides you with good feedback on assignments and is extremely approachable when you need help on anything. She respects the opinions that are shared in the class while giving her own interpretations. I would take another course with her!
Participate. Well rounded midterm. Oral presentation. Take home final. Those are the biggies but this class is awesome. Second time with this instructor. She puts together really interesting content. Much info on feminism, gender, indigenous studies, and political massacres. Marking is meaningful but can be unclear. Sometimes class can drag.
Took her for GENED 1404, super easy marker. Her lectures are awkward and boring because she is pretty quiet and expects participation from students.
Laura is disorganized and rude. She interrupts student presentations and isn't knowledgeable about the lecture material. She also cuts most classes short (20 minutes for a final exam review where she just read from the Blackboard document) Frustrating to watch her struggle with overhead projector every week. Would not recommend.
Laura takes a while to warm up to, but by the second week you will have a solid understanding of her expectations and teaching styles. I enjoyed her class and the assignment were fairly marked and thought provoking. I would taker another class with her in a heartbeat.
Nice person but very disorganized. Some of the most boring lectures I have ever taken, as she only reads off of the powerpoint slides. She takes attendance every class and gets mad at students for using their laptops. Over-all not a great prof.
So narrow minded, strict and stuck in her own ways. Toughest marker I've encountered in all of university. Won't give out A's. Do not use your laptop or phone, otherwise risk getting called out. Do not apply your own knowledge to questions just regergetate what she says. If you use your own examples she marks it wrong. Overall just AVOID this prof.
Laura is a lovely lovely lady. However, her lectures are very dry and she is all over the map for grading... If you're looking for an easy A, you won't get it here
She talk softly but she have a tendency to disrespect her students. I personally had experienced it. She turns her back while you were talking to her and then gets so irritated when someone in class have their phone on the table and even glances on their phone while shes talking.
Laura is an amazing prof and an truly genuine person. Her marking is average, not harsh and she provides excellent feedback to ensure success in future assignments. Super passionate and so open to discussion that encourages learning. She wants her students to succeed. Extraordinary considerate of student stress.
I like Laura, this was my second time taking a course with her. One thing I noticed is that she has a pretty similar outline when it comes to projects and assignments in her classes. To do well in her classes you should read the assigned readings, attend class, and ask her for help or clarification when needed. She will take the time to help you!
I liked Laura genuinely enough as a human, however her marking was all over the map. In most writing classes I take I'm in the high 80s, low 90s but in her class, I was getting 70s. wouldn't leave much feedback other than that she didn't like my word choice. Would cross out words and write different ones that mean the same and then docked marks.
Great prof, just takes a little time to figure out re: marking style. Harder than her Intro to WGST, as she expected us to make feminist connections instead of spelling it out for us. Offered APA/style corrections on my essays re: things other profs have never noticed, which I found really helpful. Attendance matters, takes participation seriously.
I took her for an English class and found she was very disrespectful towards her students, I found this disappointing. I wouldnt take a class with her again, she was rude to me when I needed help.
Laura is a fairly good prof. She has a clear grading criteria and provides an outline for each essay. As long as you follow those, its an easy A. Her lectures are interesting however she does read off the slides. Shes intimidating and has random in class activities.
I have taken about 15 courses at MRU, out of all of the profs Laura Adamo was the teacher I disliked the most. She has a decent way of teaching but is extremely rude and her exams have nothing to do with the course. 0/5 rating tbh
avoid at all costs not very helpful in her office hours If you miss a day or two your grade suffers If you have any ideas of your own disregard them as she says I know whats best so use her examples only. You definitely need to regurgitate what she says in the same way she says it if its slightly in your own words expect a lower grade.
Laura was an awful prof. She's disrespectful to her students and her grading is everywhere. She expects you to know everything about the class before you get into the class. Make sure you take a womens intro class before this one. There isn't any prerec for her class but there might as well be for intro to womens. AVOID HER!
Laura is the most caring professor I know! Her lectures are interesting and she allows you to share your opinion. Shes passionate and truly inspiring! Definitely the best WGST prof I know! She makes you think and you get to really dive into the subject! This is my third time taking her class! If you want an easy A, not the class for you!
This is a second level course but wow her grading on my papers were brutal and I have been at mru for 4 years and taken my share of writing classes. Hard marker. Avoid if you are just trying to get credits.
I have had Laura for a few classes at MRU and she is a very fair marker and good prof, her criteria for her papers are very clear as she basically outlines what every section of the paper is supposed to be about. If you are decent at writing you will get an A for sure.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. If you miss just one day, she will remember you and become very disrespectful. She is a tough grader too. Avoid her if you can.
1. Lazy teaching style. Expects all learning to be done from the readings/viewings. Class time is just chit chat time. Doesnt even make slides. 2. Very unfair marker. This is my 4th year and I've always gotten 100% on my papers, even in hard classes. She was giving me C's for not writing up her exact opinion in essays. (Which she makes you guess)
She is extremely hard to approach and marks unreasonably hard for a first year GNED class
Laura was a super nice prof. The class had no real exams, just papers. She outlines exactly what she wants you to write. There were a lot of readings and documentaries to watch though. Participation marks are a part of your grade so you have to show up too. Overall, if you know what she wants you'll be fine.
Easiest class ever, she marks really easy too. Not very many assignments, and tests are pretty simple. Very straight forward guidelines for assignments, as long as you follow them you can get an easy A.
I'm graduating this year and I have had to write so many other papers that were beyond difficult compared to her measly little opinionated assignments still I was being marked low. Pretty ridiculous for a foundation. Her feedback on papers is illiterate so good luck decoding whatever the hell she actually wanted. Felt like a gender class instead
I really enjoyed this class with Laura! Decent amount of readings and doco's to watch, but if you follow her (very clear) paper instructions you shouldn't have an issue - she also gives detailed feed back. No slides, however great in-class discussions and she uploads her notes. If you show her respect it'll be reciprocated.
Laura is great. I found her lectures very inspirational and the topics covered were important. If you follow her essay instructions carefully you will do well however, I did find her a bit strict with grading. She does notice grammar and grades heavily on clarity of arguments. Her lectures also require lots of critical reflection and participation.
I found myself unable to focus or want to participate in this class. It seemed like ideas were often shot down instead of discussed or simply labeled "wrong" without an explanation. Laura was very sweet, however, and you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches!
This class should be an easy A. You write basic essays about boring prompts and expect to come out with a decent grade. But it isn't, you are expected to go to class to sit and talk about the most generic boring pictures, and if you don't then your grade drops 10%. grading is inconsistent and responses are vague. Do not recommend.
She would teach class for 30 minutes a week and grade like it was the end of the world. She would struggle with her own grammar and then come give you terrible marks for your mistakes. Very unorganized and would spend most of her class staring at the screen or playing with her cat. Her feedback is unclear. DO NOT RECCOMMED.
I took this class even tho I disliked her last semester cuz I thot shed be diff but no. she talks so much abt everything and nothing, expects u to agree w her, no room for ur opinion in papers, you will do bad if you dont write what she wants. online classes are her talking for no reason but expects u to be there. avoid her, don't be like me TWICE.
I highly recommend Laura, she gives super clear instructions for assignments and is a fair marker. Attendance and participation is mandatory.
Laura is truly one of the worst professor that I have dealt with. She is not understanding and has a difficult time grasping that people have different perspective when it comes to analysis-based essays. She wants her student to get nothing from this class as she expects you to write exactly what she says in class otherwise you get a bad grade.
She was a very nice prof, but I could see that if you disagree with anything she says she would go against you, otherwise was a great prof with a lot of insightful info. Was my spring class and only had 3 essays to write, no final or midterm. This class is very interesting and we had a lot of in depth discussions. loved her assignment instructions
Marked on participation, a midterm, term paper, and a final, exams were just essay questions tho. & the participation mark was weighted far too heavily IMO. A very unfair marker and expects you to have the same opinion as her. Assignments are heavily outlined the way she wants and leaves no room for your own analysis, which was annoying.
In this class you are asked to evaluate on the images Laura presents to you but if your opinion is different from hers, your grade will drop. If you miss a class without a reason your grade will drop. If you miss more than one class because you are sick your grade will drop. If you don't participate in class your grade will drop. Also picky on APA
Laura is very sweet. I've had her for 2 classes so far and she is really good. Just show up and do your best. she tells you exactly what she expects in the assignments and exams. Just put effort! I didn't show up as much as I should have, but still ended with a B-
Really enjoyed this class! Participation was worth 10% but just showing up is not enough to do well in this area... I showed up every day and was very engaged in the lectures and discussions, but only got 8/10 marks. All other marks are papers though, which she marks fairly. Lectures are very engaging. Would recommend!
Would recommend Laura for any WGST classes. I took Women & Aging, Women & Health, and Gender & Pop. Culture with her and I found them all to be super interesting and informative. She is more on the tough side when it comes to grading papers, however, her outlines are always very clear and she provides extensive feedback!
I took WGST 1172 in Spring, I personally loved the class and Laura is a great professor. Laura is very kind and provides an excellent outline for the course. If you follow her instructions and participate you will get a good grade.
this prof was the worst ever. She leaves the assignment instructions broad and then expect you to read her mind or something. She refuses to let the students have their own interpretation and if you do so your grade is gonna be horrible. I do not recommend her!!
This professor was horrible. You had to agree with her point of view and were not allowed to interpret things in your own way. Ruined my GPA and all my confidence in this material matter. Don't take a class with her, it will ruin your life.
She constantly voiced her own opinion on the matter, would not see other perspectives. It felt like a feminist cult with the way her classes were structured. only took on topics of women and gender.. gender being the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and nothing else. barely spoke about men, and I was the only guy in class and it ruined my mental health.
Laura was just rude and condescending to her students. She encouraged class discussions but then was really sassy rebuttals. Clearly had favourites in this class. Would absolutely not recommend.
I liked Laura! She guided us through 1 (out of 2) questions on both the midterm and final in class, so it's easy to get those marks if you attend and take notes. Attendance matters--fairly easy to catch up using her notes after missing a class, but being absent tanked my participation grade. She's funny and we had lots of interesting discussions.
Great professor. People saying she's tough on attendance are just looking for an easy grade where they don't need to go to class even though they paid for it; if you don't want to go to class, don't go to university, it's not a daycare so stop being children. Respect her, pay attention, and you'll do well and be respected yourself. 9.5/10
Classes are quite dull because she reads off the slides word for word. However, I recommend attending them since she is very strict about attendance. Laura HATES note taking in class, and she prohibits any electronic devices. If you are on your phone, have your laptop open, or are taking notes on your iPad, she will single-handedly call you out.
Laura is very rude to people who disagree with what she thinks, and she will make everything an LGBTQ+ topic. And if you disagree with certain things, she said, she will call you out. I felt miserable after each class. I completely lost my confidence to speak up in class. But you will fail that participation part if you don't speak up in class.
Genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had. Has such a horrible attitude problem, is so rude and has absolutely no manners. Thinks everyone else is wrong and doesn't let anyone have their own opinion. Participation and attendance matters but the course itself is very light and easy so definitely take it, just not with this teacher.
laura is the worst professor i've had. participating in discussions is 10% of your grade but she has a problem if your opinion varies from hers. she also marks papers very hard with no clear feedback. during lectures, she reads right off of slides but attendance is mandatory. overall, very rude to most students and doesn't show any respect at all.
Laura comes off as very strict but is quite kind and understanding once you get to know her. She is very strict about word counts so make sure you're following them to a tea. Overall she was a good professor just a little old school.
I think Laura is passionate about writing but comes across as condescending. Her marking criteria is very strict and no matter what you improve on she will always find something to take huge marks off. I do not feel I learned much or improved my writing taking this course. I would suggest taking it with a different professor
the hardest marking prof and the least empathetic person ever. take this course with a different prof and you'll be set.
If you can avoid it, DO NOT take her class. Her marking is extremely ridged to the outlines & they are hard to understand, 90% is highlighted… if you do not align with extreme leftist, “woke” culture or just don't agree with her beliefs, good luck…she's rude & Lysol wipes EVERYTHING before every class… what is up with that.
please avoid !!
Laura Adamo is an amazing professor! Her lectures are interesting, and she really encourages discussion. It's always so lovely to hear so many different perspectives. Her class was engaging, and the no cell phone policy really helped with that fact. I really enjoyed this class, and she really makes everyone feel very welcome!
Laura is a good person, but one of the worst professors I have ever had. She made me uncomfortable when talking about certain topics, and I found her extremely unapproachable. She made comments about Indigenous issues and people that made me feel incredibly upset. Feedback is condescending and is truly not very helpful.
Prof. Adamo has a distinct teaching style - you need to engage with it to do well. Attendance is mandatory, but it's worth it for the engaging lectures. For study prep, unstuckstudy and the free course materials were super helpful along with staying on top of the readings.
Laura's lectures are boring, just reading word for word off the slides, is very strict on use of technology, even if it's for notes. Her grading is extremely harsh and her feedback is condescending and contradictory to the assignment requirements. Unless this class is a requirement for your degree, take another elective or GNED or with another prof
Laura was very rude and condescending especially if you didn't agree with her opinion. She has favorites in class and it shows. She is not understanding at all, I was actually yelled at by her in one class because I asked a question that she found meaningless. Avoid her if you can the worst professor I've ever had.
Laura is nice when you get past her walls, however, as a teacher I wouldn't recommend Laura as a prof. Her outlines are thorough and outline expectations, but come your grade and its feedback it can be contradicting. Classes are mandatory, no cellphones, and you're required to retain discuss without the ability to take notes.
Neo-liberal views & class has become all about politics and almost nothing about writing. choose any other professor. Her unnecessary hate on technology is frustrating. openly scolds students for using their phone or computer, even if it's class related. notes & assignment briefs are visually terrible and hard to decipher importance
Take this class from any other professor.
This class wasn't supposed to be too difficult, but she marks very harshly, resulting in you ending with a worse grade than you imagined. Pick a different professor if you care about your marks.
Very performative “feminism” is taught in this class- instead of focusing on actual issues that impact people's lives, Laura chooses to focus on pretentious and unimportant things like “chest feeding” vs “breast feeding” or “eating disorders” vs “disordered eating”. Very little flexibility around assignments, her opinion is the only “right” one.
Just read off slides and was incredibly rude to students
I don't know if I'm being targeted or if she has a staring problem, but she will stop the entire class and stare at you until she has your full attention. She also would stare into my soul when discussing topics like race or sexuality. She has made me feel incredibly uncomfortable in every class, and she is generally rude to her students.
I took this class Fall 2024, but Laura's class was decent. The assignments were reasonable, she could be a harsh marker, but I definitely improved my writing being in her class. She is a caring person. I know some people had an issue with the lack of technology, personally I thought it was fine because it removed the distraction.
Laura was a better marker than I expected. However, the class was very boring and I didn't actually learn a lot, especially compared to other WGST classes I've taken. Most of the content was pretty self-explanatory. She will call you out for being on your phone. The class wasn't as bad as I expected considering her rating.
This professor creates an uncomfortable and intimidating learning environment. She comes across as rude, dismissive, and clearly plays favourites. Students are publicly scolded, yelled at for small things like phone use, and made to feel anxious rather than supported. Overall, unprofessional and not recommended
