Laura is great. She stresses her key points in class, so you know what to expect on the tests. She is a little cheesy but it's endearing. She makes the class easy by trying to engage the students and having concept questions in class. Take Bio with her and you'll get a good grade.

She was unclear, and surprisingly hard on the exams. Some of the information seemed uncovered. She used integrated questions without going over their relations multiple times. She did stress important key points, but used a powerpoint presentation which left me uninterested and lacked details, that she only briefly covered.

Professor Almstead is clearly enthusiastic about biology and does her best to share that enthusiasm with her students. While the tests can often be confusing, most of the concepts are easy to grasp and well explained by her in lecture. As long as you attend class and do a little exam prep you'll have a pretty good time.

I took this class as an elective because it sounded fun, and I make sure to hit every point she wants for every assignment, but still get C's because I "don't go in depth enough" in scientific concept descriptions. Anything less then copy/pasting her own words is something she considers as not meeting expectations for assignments.

Professor Almstead moves fast during lecture, so be prepared to take quick notes and/or look back at the slides after class. Homework due once a week on Sundays. She is available outside of class. Despite all of this, the exams are annoying, and, although the content is fairly easy, the questions are most multiple choice and designed to trick you.

Laura can move quickly during lectures so I recommend typing notes, not writing. She uses iClicker questions for participation and if the whole class is stumped on a question, sometimes she doesn't explain it in a helpful way but tries to clarify important points. Exams and homework can be tricky but aren't that long. Good for an intro course.

Professor Almstead comes to class so prepared every time which is amazing. Her bio class was pretty easy as someone who took AP Bio in high school, but I still enjoyed the class because of how engaging her lectures and materials are. She is really picky about how things are worded, and unless it is verbatim to how she would answer it, she will make you think you are completely wrong, even if your answer is correct. She is a cool person, but I don't vibe with her teaching or communication style and often find myself more confused after her lectures than if I teach myself.
