I think that she is amazing. Lets you know whats on the tests and doesnt expect you to simply read her mind. Her tests are easy if you study and know your stuff. Which is easy to do becasue she can make the material interesting and she is clear on how she teaches.

Laura is such an awesome prof! She makes things so clear and goes over everything very thouroughly. She posts questions and notes on WebCT and offers to help every way she can. Her assignments are fairly easy but the exams are alot harder than expected. Almost all short answer and some questions are fairly tricky. Other than that, Laura rocks!

2005Fall Very fun class, easy midterms and assignments. Lab was easy except for the exam which was unusually hard. They used alot of tricks. Know your phylums and classes!

Laura was a great prof! Very helpful, and approachable with any questions you may have. The midterms and final are very straight-forward and easy as long as you study. There are assignments thrown in there which are an easy way to boost your mark. I would definitely take another class from her!

Laura is the best prof I've had yet! I definately reccommend taking a class from her. She's funny, very direct about the material, assignments and exams. She basically tells you what will be on the exams (which are super easy if you study)and gives you exaxmple questions (that are always on there).

She's the best teacher you can get if you're an arts student and you need one science credit. Sometimes her lectures can get boring, but don't let that put you off her class. I mean, come on, it's science! (Which I'm not too fond of personally) If you study, you will do very well on the midterms and finals. BTW, she isn't arrogant at all.

I wouldn't say she's the best pof, but she's certainly one who actually deserves to be teaching at the U of R! She's respectful, knowledgeable, and very helpful! Theonly thing I didn't like about her class was the lab part. Anyways, if you take a class from Laura, you can expect 80% or higher if you go to class and put in a little effort!

Laura is such a great prof. I don't know how anyone could not like her. She lays out the material in such an organized fashion and she basically tells you what is going to be on the exam. If you study and do the work, you'll get such a good mark in her class. I recommend her for any natural science credit for arts students.

Laura Rocks! She is fun, smart and gives great notes. I had to work hard in this class to get a good mark, but if you study and attend the labs there is no reason you shouldn't get an 80% in this class.

This class was excellent. The prof is very good at what she does. The notes are extreamly helpful and the examples too. Really nice lady. I highly recommend this class for a science elective. The course load was fair too, 2 midterms a chapter summary and a final plus the lab stuff of course.

Laura relates very well with young students and, at times, can be unbearably ‘cute’. As such, her class can sometimes degenerate to girl talk, with an informalness that is distracting. Regardless, her class is so structured and straightforward, it would be almost difficult to do poorly.

Laura's truly an exceptional teacher, but the class itself is far too intense for 100 level arts-Bio. Not only are there 2 mid terms and a final; we also had a media journal/discussions, two major assignments, and a lab final. The textbook is good, but doesn't usually relate well to material learned in class. Why is she leaving, btw?

Excellent teacher! I highly recommend her as a bio prof. Her exams are pretty much all the notes you take in class. Study them well and you'll do great on your exams. The textbook helps, but you don't really need it if you take notes in class and just study them well. All in all, interesting class and great teacher!!

Easy teacher. No labs in the 150 class, instead you go to the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and answer questions on the dioramas. Perfect for someone like me who loathes sciences/labs.

Phenomenal prof!! I've never really been able to understand biology until I took it from Laura. Very helpful and open to questions. If you send her an email, she usually gets back to you by the end of the day. Great prof, would definitely take another class from her if I have the chance. This class was pretty fair. Laura is a nice woman, quite approachable, but lacks a little luster in making the class interesting. If you've taken high school level Biology classes, this one is a breeze. Not many assignments, but there is a lot of info covered. A lab is mandatory, which wasn't all that great, but easy nevertheless. Notes are posted.

Friendly prof, but acted very childish at times. But all slides online and textbook was never used. A lot of material covered in a short time, would be very hard to follow without taking Bio 30 in high school. Some topics are gone over too quickly and then are a large portion of the test. Laura was one my favourite profs, and you definitely don't need the textbook for this class. Bio 140 was basically a repeat of Bio 30 in high school, and her notes and lectures are super clear. You really don't have to go to class to do well but I did anyway because I enjoyed them and sometimes there were cookies :)

BIOL140 online with Laura is a delight! The online course is well designed and easy to follow. Laura is prompt in answering questions and her expectations are clear and fair.

Good class. Very clear and easy to follow lectures. Posts lecture notes online, you only need to show up if you want the participation marks. She uses TopHat which I did not enjoy, don't bother buying the program she hands out papers so you still get the participation.

She marks easy and is always willing to answer your questions. The notes are posted. Problem though, she looks for a lot of detail. Example: The final exam was 20 question but put of 158 Marks. Each question is not %100 clear for what its worth and isn't always %100 clear in the notes. It can be hard to full marks but you can still get a good grade

Professor Ambrose conveys the concept of human biology in an easily comprehensible manner. Be prepared for frequent assignments--papers, laboratory work, drawings, and etcetera--and a few simple quizzes if you are considering this online version of the course with her. She tends to procrastinate with grading work, but she is a fair marker.

Someone was complaining about how if they speak, then she will look at you and make you feel uncomfortable... honestly, people shouldn't be speaking while she is teaching in the first place. This is the second time I was able to have Laura as a prof. I would take her courses again and again. She is very kind and caring towards her students. Her courses and expectations are at just the right level. No textbook for this class as all resources are free online. It was her first time teaching the course for my group, but she did awesome!

Laura is one of the nicest profs I have ever taken. Extremely understanding of personal issues that may impact the ability to hand in assignments. The class is taught extremely well and her grading is beyond generous. The course is composed of reading assignments, reflection papers and summary essays.

One of the best profs I've ever had! She will go out of her way to get you a good grade. Even allows you to hand in your study guides for extra marks. Study guides are basically the exams. She is pleasant, so helpful and always available. Definitely recommend.

Laura really cares about her students well-being in and outside of the classroom. She gave us plenty of work time, and a lot of feedback on assignments. She words biology down into easier phrases to understand. Laura was always available out of class time if needed. There were many things that were optional we could do for extra marks as well!

In all honesty, I would wait to take BIO 140 in person. Laura is knowledgeable and replies quick, but the entire course has been converted into words. You simply read the content on your own, and complete the course work. Hard if you don't learn by reading. Decent class overall, but didn't get to experience the Laura who is rated very good here!

Laura was a very good prof! This class was super organized and easy to understand (honestly was an easy 90)! Whenever I had questions she responded quickly and gave great answers. There is quite a bit of reading to go along with each unit but there were study guides at the end of each unit which were so helpful!

There is a lot to do in this course, every week there was an activity or lab we had to submit but no activity took me more than a few hours. This course isn't hard, there is just a lot to do. But Laura is very understanding and really cares about her students. Awesome prof.

The assignments and readings were easy and if we didn't understand something she would give extensions and send out emails explaining. This class really piqued my curiosity about biology! Laura made the course content relevant to everyday life (we learned about vaccines, cancer, evolution, and how traits are inherited) and the lab activities ensured comprehension of the material before the exams. I enjoyed this class w/ Laura so much that I signed up for her IDS100 class.

This class was fully online and I was nervous for having Bio online but it was great. Although I never got to meet her she really tried her best to make sure everyone was doing well in the class. Lots of readings but worth it and I learnt a lot!

Laura is one of the best professors ever, she does baby the class a little bit, but she is so nice and she cares so much about what she is teaching. The class involved: reassuring emails before every exam, a free 100% on the lab when it snowed bad outside, a perfect study guide for every test, and bonus marks on every exam.

Professor Ambrose was amazing. She is very understanding if something goes wrong. I skipped almost all classes and still achieved an 87%. I simply wrote out the class notes on my own time and learned the material that way. Very easy class but I learned a lot.

Took BIOL 140 as an elective, the class was easy, all quizzes were open book. I missed one of the quizzes and she was super understanding and let me retake it. You don't need to know anything about Biology to do well in this course, I never even took it in high school and still got a great mark. 10/10 would take again.

AMAZING. Take Laura! Her lectures are so easy to understand and she provides a ton of examples. She posts lecture notes after class too which is nice. Allows us to bring in an info sheet to midterms and the final exam. Also posts study guides for midterms and the final. Would 100% take again.

She is amazing! Highly recommend, she is very understanding and gives many examples so her lectures are easy to understand.

As someone who isn't a science person, this class was very enjoyable and easy. There's opportunities for optional participation marks, 'cheat sheets' for exams, and textbook isn't required. Laura is very caring and gives off 'high school teacher' vibes. Only complaint is that lectures are quite boring because she is monotoned and quiet.

Laura is an absolutely amazing prof! She is so nice and very sweet. She cares about her students and everything is online and she is easily reached through emails. Her lectures are well planned and organized, she takes notes in a way that is easy to understand if you miss the class. Midterms and finals are super easy! Would recommend!

This might be the easiest class that I have ever taken. Knocking out that science requirement can be intimidating, but she breaks down everything on a short PDF and tells you straight up not to read the textbook at all. I would get a biology degree if she taught every class. Take your science with her and count your blessings that you found her.

If you suck at science but you need BIO140 to graduate, this is the class for you! Best prof ever. Explains things in a way that is so easy to understand. I seriously never thought I would enjoy a biology course so much! Thank you so much for this experience, Professor Ambrose!

It is not hard to do well in this course. PDF notes, online labs and Open book testing. Simple ways to engage in the material. Communicates weekly about what is being done, what is due, what exams are on what days. Everything is laid out nicely and organized well. No complaints from this course. Easily accessible by course email.

Laura is very kind and understanding. I'm usually not good at science but I LOVED this course! She made everything so interesting & was always willing to answer any and all questions. Additionally, she lets you bring an info sheet into the midterms & final, which is amazing!

She creates a friendly atmosphere for lectures, very enthusiastic about what she's teaching, and ensures that everything is accessible for everyone by constantly checking in with all of us.

Laura is passionate about what she teaches and makes things fun with her various labs like experimenting with mealworms or going to the library. She pretty much gives out the test questions but will ask them in a way where you actually have to understand what you're talking about. She can be a bit disorganized but always makes up for it. Laura was such an easy prof if you need a science class. You get a reference sheet for every exam and she teaches you exactly what you needed to know. The labs weren't great. I felt like I did not benefit from them but it was mandatory for the course. Overall Laura is great and the class was really chill.

I took this course because I had to. It was nothing against Laura I am just weak in biology. If you are someone that learns better when it is thoroughly explained maybe don't take this specific course and professor. It is extremely note heavy. I believe I would have benefitted from a smaller class and more of a conversation teaching style.

Laura makes the class feel like it's a high school class in the best way. She has a lot of notes, but they are provided on UR courses. The exams are easy and so are the labs as she allows cheat sheets on the midterm and even on the final. Overall great prof would take another one of her classes.
