It is online course. Its MGQ201 which is stats course for business major. It is easy exams and finals but you can make cheat sheet so you will get aced. Do hw online from ublearns so go ahead highly recommended.
Professor Amo is a fair teacher. The online class is great because no one wants to get up at 8am. Homeworks are based off lecture, quizzes are straight off the homework, and exams are just like the quizzes (and you get a cheatsheet!). Only tough part is there isn't much of a curve so getting an 85% on your work will make it impossible to get an A.
Hi Welcome to MGQ 201! You will hear this each lecture if you take her class
Professor Amo is a great professor, one of the better instructors I've had for the Spring 2014 semester. She spoke clearly, explained things very well, and was knowledgeable in the material. Course wasn't hard but requires thinking. She is also very sweet, helpful, lenient, and VERY willing to help her students! Take her if you can!
Professor Amo is the best. She always tells you what the test objectives are before you take it and is very clear explaining things in lecture. She's always willing to help you out if you have questions. Tests and quizzes were easy if you followed along with lectures
Professor Amo is amazing! She is very understanding and if you bring a question to her she is very clear with her answer. She is also very good in that if she makes a mistake, she will go out of her way to correct the mistake and not penalize you for it. She is very on top of everything & is good at keeping her students informed with upcoming work
great professor, goes over hw and lets you know what's upcoming on quizzes and exams. grading scale is harsh but getting a good grade is still doable
Really cares about the students and makes every effort to make the class fair, even though it is hard to get an A.
The final test is the only test that will trick you because you can't use computer, you have to do it with calculator. Go to her office and make sure you can solve every problem of last three chapters with a calculator. I have got A on 1st and 2nd exam, but I only got B on the 3rd one because I am not used to use calculator to compute answer
The Online lectures are long and tedious. She explains concepts in the lecture. If you don't watch them you will fall behind. The test and quizes are online. Final exam is on paper and only able to use a calc. It was hard.
This is my first semester at UB and I can honestly say she is already one of my favorite professors. She's extremely helpful and will find a solution to any issue relating to the software or grading errors. Her lectures can be a bit tedious but she goes into a ton of detail to make sure you understand everything completely. Highly recommend
Professor Amo is a really great teacher. She really works in her students' favor and she is incredibly intelligent. The assignments are sometimes difficult, but if you go to her for help it is incredibly easy to do well. Very nice teacher, take her if you can.
Professor Amo is hands down one of the best professors I've had at UB. She's engaging, fair, responsive, lenient and gives you every opportunity to succeed in her class. The lectures feel long because, well, they are. Do the homework, follow her recommendation when you switch to graphic calcs and you'll do fine. Absolutely take her if you can.
Essentially.
She is definitly stunning at her review sessions for your final or midterms, try to keep watching all the lectures, and you are golden. The hw is pretty annoying and confusing, but if you email to the TA and professor they teach you well the solution and concepts. Also get Victoria for TA she is so hot and cute when she smiles at you ;)
Professor Amo was great. Never watched a lecture, only the two review for midterm and two review for final and still got A's on both. Definitely do the HW though, don't just get the answers. It's always good to work in a group but make sure you understand the material unless you're gonna be in trouble for the tests. Just stay on top of everything..
Professor Amo is awesome! She really looks out for her students and gives you every opportunity to succeed. Do the work, make sure you understand the material and you'll have no trouble getting a good grade. Recitation attendance is a must so don't blow it off.
Watched a few of her lectures - they weren't worth the time. Never have I seen a professor go so out of their way to get students to pass. Didn't do your online quiz? Chances are the deadline will be extended anyway. She changed the syllabus mid-semester to make hard assignments extra credit. Easy A with little effort. Didn't learn a thing.
By far the most helpful teacher I've had at school so far. Professor Amo looks to help the students rather than ignoring them. The semester I took stats with her, she extended almost every deadline and gave more extra credit than you can even imagine. Do the online assignments and you'll be in good shape. The final was very tough though.
Easiest A I got so far for business course. Honestly, statistics itself is not easy, but with formula sheet she gives its real easy to solve almost all online questions. Mid term was online which I got 100% + bonus mark which were directly copy-off of mid term review. I only watched her solving online question cuz she's just giving u answers :)
Professor Amo does help the students better understanding the materials. She is a great professor and willing to help students. In order to get in A, you must watch the lecture and do the homework. She gives hints on the lecture. Also, there is a review for the final exam. As long as you do those questions, you will get high scores.
She is a very hard-working and friendly lecture. She is also well-organised in his teaching material and clear with everything. Willing to take it again
Dr. Amo is one of my favorite professors. She's super easy to talk to during office hours, and tries her best to help out every student. Her review sheets are literally the exams. Just study and be ready to do work. If you put in the effort, you will get the grades.
Inconsistent by semester. I took her in the spring, but based on all of the free points she gave during the fall, I really should've taken her then. I'm sure she's a great teacher but I didn't watch the lectures.
She always makes multiple of mistakes on her calculation. I am pretty sure most of the students are better at math than her. This mistakes affect students to hardly understand the idea and concepts. I recommend not to take her class because it just is too bad.
She is really terrible when it comes to grading. She will have you using excel to do all of your calculations for the homework, quizzes, and the midterm but when it came to the final we had to use a calculator which was a huge disadvantage. Also for the final she only gave use an hour and 30 minutes which was not enough time.
One of my favorite professors at UB. She is really friendly and her lectures are clear and easy to understand. Her review sheets are great for studying for the exams.
She is an awful teacher, I dont know who is rating her. In reality the class was not very hard but she has made a strange commitment to make the class more difficult every semester. So that will soon change. She actively tries to trip up her students, especially those who dont watch lectures even though they know the material.
Class is very easy. It's a lot of work, with hw, quizzes & labs but it's easy material. Use your recitation to get it all done, TA's are a big help! She gives so much extra credit its impossible to fail. Got through without really watching lectures. Lets you have a cheat sheet for the final. Only con, buying Eassign & mystatlab was pretty expensive
Every assignment you get for this class is done online, and most of the work is done using Microsoft Excel. In my experience, homework matters a lot. Not only is it a key part of the grading of the course, but the homework is thorough on the subjects that exams cover. Make sure you can do the material without Excel, though; the final is on paper!
Amo deserves more than a Pat on the back for continuously challenging students every semester. She is passionate about Data Analytics, I learn a lot about methods one use to measure and derive meaning from numbers via. Statistics. Gives xtra credit, hw and quiz hints. You didn't put in enough time & effort if you think it's her fault you did bad.
Most of the course load is online. There are quizzes for every few chapters, they are activated by completing the homework. She is very generous with the work load so TAKE ADVANTAGE. She is VERY fair as well. If the homework is too hard she does give you more tries to score better. Watch the lectures or go to class, and you'll get an A
Overall, a pretty good professor. However she often makes mistakes during her calculations in lecture, stops and tries to figure out where she went wrong, which makes it very hard to follow and understand the concepts.
She is awful to listen to, she tries way to hard to sound smart and actually is not. Everything this semester was online except the final. The only reason for getting a good grade was showing up to recitation and the TA helping. Her lectures are basically pointless to watch unless you want an A+. Overall her lectures suck but the class is easy.
DO NOT TAKE!!! she appears nice but actively tries to bone her students. she gave us no where near enough time to finish the final and i know this because not a single person finished it. SHe teaches the course through excel but barely ever uses excel in her lectures. The lectures dont help. SHE WILL NOT RETURN YOUR EMAILS
Class starts out pretty easy and smooth. After the midterm, all downhill. She saves the hardest topics for last and tries to cram in months of work into the last 1/4 of the semester. I don't know a single person who was able to finish the final on time. The worst part is that she doesn't even seem like she cares about students. Absolutely awful
I watched every minute of every lecture. Did very well on the first 3 quizzes and mid-term. Not sure what happened but she really dropped the ball after the mid-term. Studied for 20+ hours for her two part final and walked out of there knowing I did terrible. She's a nice professor, but really let her students down.
Everyone on here is just bitter because they clearly did not put in the time nor effort to learn the material, and are now upset because they cannot pass a very fair exam. Amo is a good teacher, and really cares about her students. Class is completely fair and doable.
The class starts off easy and continues the same until you walk into that final exam room, You see your whole GPA starting to drop in front of you. She gives out the most unfair Final Exam. Even people like myself who did really good on all the quizzes and midterms walked out of there knowing they failed. Please don't take Amo under any circumstanz
The first part of the class was easy & doable. After the midterm everything started to go down hill . The final was so unfair and hard. She gives you no where near enough time to finish it. I really enjoyed the first 3rd of the class, but the last few weeks of the semester was HELL. I worked hard the whole semester but that final screwed me over!
She is an amazing professor. People on here rating her down because they thought the exam was unfair are completely wrong. It was very fair considering she taught everything we needed to know for it and we got to use excel. The final project and labs were so easy because they literally walked us through them.
In general she is okay. But if you have taken any other stats class, you will know how bad she explain all the theories and solve the problem. Lectures are waste of time. Studying the notes and make sure you know EXCEL and you will be good to go. Everything was super easy before the final exams. Only give you 40 mins for each part of 2 finals.
Online class is totally weird. Exams in mystatlab are not what the class prepares you for. Prepare to fail on the finals
She gives numerous extra credits.. IF ONLY THE FALL 16 CLASS COMPLETED THE COURSE EVALUATION WE WOULD'VE GOT AN EXTRA POINT!!!! but.. she understands you, gives extension, the labs/final project is a piece of cake because she walks you through it. The final was a lil tricky but she did make up for it.... ( didn't work out for me anyway)
She knows what she's talking about, but sometimes it isn't conveyed very well. Honestly the lectures were pointless besides the ones where she walks through homeworks and quizzes, you're better off just reading the textbook and the notes she posts. 1st time she did an online final and it was rough, hopefully it's better adapted for future classes.
I thought she was the best professor at this school. She gives you chances to improve your grade and is very fair about tests and homework. She does a great job explaining what is expected and is entertaining to watch. Her TAs are also very helpful. I love the hybrid form of the class as well.
One of the best teachers you will ever take. Teaches in detail. Easy to grasp. Online homework, quizzes, and ONLINE MIDTERM. She is incredible and the tests are extremely fair and exactly like the homework and quizzes. Grades on an excellent curve. TAs were extremely helpful too, so go to recitation for sure. Definitely take professor Amo.
The whole key to the class is sitting up a good Excel workbook. You can fly through homework, quizzes and test by just plugging in the numbers. Easy A if you do so. She tries to crack jokes and she can be funny sometimes
Look if you just sit through the online lectures every week its a cake walk. hws and quizzes are easy, and tests are tough but not impossible. Content builds every week so stay active with the lectures. Do well in the labs and project in case you bomb a test. I got a C on my first test but ended with an A in the class. Its not hard, just study!
This class is a lot of work, but that's to be expected for a 3 credit class. Homeworks are optional for extra credit on quizzes. Tests are challenging in 40 minutes but not impossible. Keep up with the lectures online and you'll be fine.
The course in itself is not tough but Laura makes it tough. She is also very biased towards a lot of students. Even her assistant Gina is such a b*****. Calls out students without any reason.
DO NOT TAKE. she films her online lectures in her laundry room so you cant hear what shes saying. on top of that she doesn't know what shes talking about. Explicitly tells you not to ask questions or contact her for any reason. its like shes in the witness protection program. shes horrible seriously dont take it if you dont have to.
I had to withdraw from the class because NO ONE would tutor me; or help me find a tutor. professor Amo and the TAs office hours are ALL during the day; around 9am-11am (which is usually when 90% of students are in other classes) I asked everyone for extra help and could not get it. #TERRIBLE, avoid UNLESS you have to take it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not a hard class once you take the time to master the material. Exams are exactly the same as the homework. The TA's are very smart and helpful. They do review videos weekly to help with the homework questions. Lots of extra credit offered. Can use an excel template on the exam (can put anything in the template). Required to go to recitation!!!
The material is not difficult but the instructor is one who makes things much more complicated or difficult than necessary. I ended up using alternative more useful resources to get an ok grade. I don't want to attend UB anymore with professors like this one.
Wow this was just so bad. The material is easy but the professor is an outright mess. Disorganized, unhelpful, flat out disrespectful, seems unqualified for this class, hasn't published anything in years yet can talk down to all the students. I've never been treated so poorly by a professor's bloated ego in my entire academic career :(
3 exams. The recitations are a saving grace they teach you the majority of what I learned. To prepare for all the exams REDO ALL THE HOMEWORKS AND EXAM PRACTICE. it's a hard class that you definitely have to work hard for. the lectures could be better I recommend the videos that go over the homework rather than those. more helpful.
You pay $ to watch youtube videos on how to do homework assignments and then repeat them to an online exam, rendering this prof entirely useless like a real estate agent on zillow or a virtual rodeo clown.... IF YOU WANT YOU PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR YOUTUBE THERE ARE BETTER / CHEAPER SCHOOLS with professors who are not awfully mean ppl :(
I agree with the previous review. The way Amo teaches is so confusing, "let's try this" a lot. She doesn't know what she talking about. Adam is a lot better than Amo. Unfortunately, Adam tested positive for covid, hope he will get back soon. :(
plz do not take her
EXAMS ARE HARD
If this professor is your only option, just take it next semester and hope there is a different professor. The class is so disorganized and the professor just seems to be winging it in recording lectures. She tends to just type randomly and not explain. You're better off learning from youtube. She is hilariously bad at teaching.
Does not teach a thing. She shows signs of clumsiness and frankly is just a bad teacher. Before I enrolled in this class I read the reviews for her and she really meets the standards. She doesn't know what she's talking about most of the time.
The class is pretty unorganized. She doesnt explain what shes doing and makes the concepts more difficult than they actually are. Her lectures are all over the place.
The lectures for this class were asynch, and were the biggest waist of time. The professor reads directly off of her notes and just fills in blanks without explaining how or why you are doing the math. The homeworks take hours, if not days to do. The only reason I was able to get a good grade in the class was because of the TA's.
One of the worst professors I've ever had at UB. Talks way too fast to the point where you have to rewind what she said about 5 times. Doesn't even bother writing the formulas in excel. Adam Wilk should've done the lecture recordings as he is a much better professor. Sometimes she doesn't even know how to solve the problems. and unfair tests
The homeworks are long but only every two weeks. The quizzes and final are extrmemly hard but the extra credit they offer is amazing. There was so much extra credit and different ways you could earn it.
I needed to take this course for my major and it isn't that bad, and I'm horrible at stats. The lab and homework are easy because you can get help from the TAs but the quizzes are a little more difficult. If you ask for help and do well on homework and labs you can pass the class
I really liked her. She's super caring of her students. 5 labs, weekly homework assignments due every Sunday, 4 tests, and 3 progress checkpoints. Once you get the hang of it, super easy class. You definitely have to put in the work tho. Time consuming but worth it.
Super easy course. Professor Amo was nice and kept the lectures short. The course is online, with weekly mandatory attendance recitations. Grading was based on: 45% 4 quizzes, 10% homework, 10% lab, 30% semester project, 5% attendance. The semester project was super easy and the TA's help you a lot. If you do the practice quiz the quizzes are easy.
You can get an A in this class if you put in the work but Professor Amo is not a good professor. Her lectures and review sessions are a MESS. I learned mostly from my TA. Get as much out of your TAs as you can instead of Professor Amo.
ez and good, way better than other MGA MGG stuff
The course isn't bad. It's pretty easy. I took this class after getting a 5 on AP Stats, and tbh the way statistical concepts are explained by both the professor and TA's in this class is so bizarre. If this describes you, you'll know what I mean. Just remember what to do in excel and this class is an easy A though, so I can't whine too much
Since this class is online as long as you watch the videos and review videos you will do well. If you do the work and understand the test material then it is an easy A. There is extra credit opportunities. I would 100% take a class with her again! She is caring and understanding.
I was worried about taking an online class but honestly I found this one to be enjoyable. Not a ton of work and if you need help the TA's are very accessible. Weekly recitations were super helpful. Assignments weren't too difficult.
Video lectures can be done at your own time, Recitations are mandatory, homework's can be challenging, go to office hours as TA's will be of great help to you to get an A in the class.
class is online, but the recitations are mandatory. I think the ta you have will help you succeed in this class, it isn't so much heavy, but weekly homework, a main project, and some labs, as well as many extra credit opportunities.
Very awesome professor. Stats is so hard, but Professor Amo makes it easy. She has the best TAs, Claudia was the best TA in the world. Stay on top of this class, you will get at least a B. Slack off, you will fail with no chance to pass. If you do everything you need to, don't worry. Great class, great structure, Prof. Cichocki is also great!
Never actually met her because she taught online and had a TA for recitation but her videos are very clear, friendly and you can slow them down if necessary. Not a hard class to pass (at all). Homework is a little bit overkill but the rest is fine. Offers extra credit every test just to do a practice test. Do your work and you'll be fine
Online lectures are boring. She takes forever to show required content. It's not too hard to get an A, but I feel this course was a complete waste of time because her video lectures were only useful for getting the homework done (I learned nothing). Getting practice with Excel is the only true benefit I gained from taking this class.
This class is really easy. It's just online videos each week and then excel labs/group projects in recitation each week. Laura Amo is a very nice and understanding professor, I'm just not a fan of the way she teaches, sometimes I get confused. It's good to have Cichocki as the assistant because her teaching makes more sense to me. Easy class though
Her teaching style was poor, mostly reading straight from her notes and adding extra words for detail, but without much added value. I got by this class from youtube, friends, and just figuring it out on my own. It's an easy A because how she grades, but be prepared to figure out how do the work yourself.
Laura is absolutely useless when it comes to being a professor. Lecture videos are way longer then they need to be and she just sits there and reads from the notes. She is not accessible outside of class I emailed her so many times with no response. Class is so unorganized. Material is not hard but then jumbled way it is delivered is awful.
Complete and utter disaster on Prof. Amo's half, and on behalf of the TA's. Trying to reach the professor for any help is near impossible and the TA's are very vague when you ask for help. Tests are way harder than they should be and the lecture VIDEOS are taught fast and all over the place. Save your time, stress, and GPA and go with someone else.
$30 online purchase / mandatory recitation / 4 in person tests about 10 questions each / 20 question homework + 2 hours worth of online video lectures per week / group project throughout semester and serves as final / class is managable but you have to take time to do the work to make sure it is correct / you will communicate mainly with your TA
This class was extremely easy. You are given formula sheets and able to use a cheat index card on exams. Ended with an A in here. They tell you exactly you need to know. Attendance required for recitations. Cichocki really carried this class and I appreciate her dedication to her students. Laura is nice but isn't really involved in the class.
Online lectures didn't cover much of what was expected on the homework. Amo was pretty much in the backseat for this course, but the Brightspace page is extremely unorganized and hard to find assignments. Prof Cichocki is amazing and genuinely makes stats so easy to understand. she also gives you the formulas needed on assessments/excel labs
Easiest A you can ever get. All you have to do is attend recitation and do your homework that's assigned every other week. Also for tests you can bring a cheat sheet.
Async lectures but professor Amo goes way too fast. You have to print the note pack if you want any chance of understanding the material, but then she makes all the notes "appear" every 5 seconds so you have to keep pausing to write them. She's also just really hard to keep up with as she is super fast, doesn't explain anything + all over the place
My experience with Amo was awful. She struggled to explain concepts, leaving me confused & unprepared. Her teaching style was disorganized, & she wasn't responsive to questions/student needs. Despite covering the material, a lack of preparation & engagement made it hard to follow. Overall, it was frustrating, & I'd seek alternative instruction.
If you do what you're supposed to for this class, as in just joining or watching the recording of the zoom meeting, showing up to each recitation, and completing the homework and or extra credit every Sunday then this class is easy. The two teachers are sweet and welcoming and answer any questions you may have. Learning Excel is a plus too.
Do what you're supposed to (watch lecture videos and complete the homework), and you will pass this class. You get lots of help with the homework and a complete formula sheet for each exam. Not a challenging class if you put in anything more than the bare minimum.
This class is online, with weekly lecture videos. She goes through note packets in the videos, but doesn't thoroughly explain what we have to learn. The practice tests she gives are basically the same as the actual exams, so it's easy to get an A in the class. Even if you don't watch the videos, you should be fine in the class.
There are lecture videos each week along with a homework assignment. Some of the videos aren't super clear but doing the homework helps you understand the content for the exams. There are excel assignments that allow us to learn skills that are helpful in the real world.
