Very knowledgable in the field of Biology. This is a great class for those students who must take a lab science but are not science majors. Her lectures are interesting and enjoyable to listen to. Don't get discouraged on one low test score, there are a lot of points available.
Laura is a great teacher. She knows what she is talking about and makes the class fun.
Great class if you hate science & 4 Christians, VERY helpful wants you to do well, lectures are pretty intresting for biology, I didnt read and got a B just work hard on your labs and you can do poorly on tests. Take extra credit ops! Not a typical science prof, shes caring & considerate
She is a very hard professor. She writes her own tests. The CD in the book is actually worthless, because the way she writes her tests.
Horrible professor. She gives VERY HARD TESTS.
She gives the hardests tests that I have ever taken
She is tough! You have to go to lecture and get the in-class points. Tests are really hard but she gives you a NOTE CARD and a study guide that helps a ton. You have to put in a quite a bit of effort and make a good note card for test. She will answer your questions and take her time to help.
she's a good teacher made it easy to suceed when the entire class did badly on an exam she gave extra credit she cant spell worth beans though but we did get to play with playdough and she gave us candy it was like kindergarden college style
She does not even know the answers to her own quiz questions. She gave a practice quiz for homework and when asked about a question it took her 10 minutes to find out the answer. Yet she expects us to know what the answers. She is a BAD teacher.
All these other people are crazy. Her class is challenging, but if you study and go to class, you will get an A. Bio can get confusing, but she tries to make it understandable. Usually gives extra credit too. Study guides are very helpful. Good class to take.
She is really bad.YOu will never get your grades on time.
You need to go to class, and pay attention! If you do that, her class is pretty easy! She also gives you the option to use a LARGE NOTECARD for all of her tests! AS WELL as a HUGE Studyguide - Just copy everything off of there! Just pay attention, and you'll do well.
I took her over the summer, and thought she was a great teacher. She's always available if you need help, and her tests are pretty straight forward. The class is pretty much lecture, and there's no hw, just one big project and chapter tests. Listen and take good notes and you'll do fine.
Laura is an awesome teacher! She's hilarious and tells lots of stories. She let us out of class atleast 20 minutes early 75% of the time. Tests are straight forward and come right off the study objectives. Read the book or the tests will be hard. Not an easy A, but its not impossible either. Highly recommended.
Some of the material was dry, but Prof. Brahce tries to work in humor and sarcasm to make it more bearable. Labs were interesting, too. I was borderline C/D toward the end, but Prof. Brahce said hey, it'll be okay, and I wound up with my C. She also showed us some cadavers, which was neat. Tests are tricky, but fair. Higly recommend!
Brahce at times can be the stereotypical absent-minded college professor. Her personality is nice and entertaining. She may not get your assignments back to you in a timely manner, but it didn't really bother me. She made bio interesting and let us out a half hour early from lecture and one to two hours early from lab every day.
im no good at science and was dreading it. she helped me through and i got a C. she was everything i could have asked for in a bio teacher. she was funny and informative. definitlly take her if ya gotta get a science outta the way. shes at the grass valley campus though now so you might have to travel but itd be worth it for sure.
I didn't like her at all. Her tests were not on her lectures, and she didn't care if you did or didn't show up. :( :( :(
she's kinda dorky but she's ok. tell stories. her tests are kinda hard but you get to you a note card so i had everything typed on it and it was easy! i got an easy A. just go to her class and take good notes. i don't think i ever opened the text book. she's alright.
Her lectures are really entertaining, but sometimes kind of random. The tests are hard, but she gives study guides, so as long as you study it's not bad. I enjoyed the class a lot, and her strange humor worked for me, since I'm a little dorky.
I took her for Micro 8A/8B. Love her. Shes pretty easy as long as you are atleast half dedicated. Gives detailed study guides before all exams and most quizzes and tells you what will be on tests, isnt tricky, lectures are interesting and is always willing to help and doesnt make u feel stupid! i hIGHLY RECOMMEND HER
she is the hardest teacher i've ever seen. do not take her class at all.
do not take her class. the tests are sooo harddd.
Laura is a great professor. She is not easy, but she is very helpful and cares if you suceed. Love the year long Micro class, you can still have a life. She is very interesting not easy, but reasonable hard for Micro.
Laura is a fun teacher and very easy. If you come in everyday and take notes you do not need to purchase a book. I got an A without spending 100 for the book. There are some things on the study guides that are only in the book, so just study with somebody who has a book or check one out in the library. Save some money.
Laura is a nice person, and a great professor; however, her tests are extensive. Notes are very much needed in her class, as with all biological science classes.
I like the professor, I felt the class was boring at times and alot of people would actually fall asleep. But unfortunately you will not survive this class unless you take exstensive notes and constantly review these notes daily. I wish the teacher was involved in reviewing work then just giving a large study guide. TESTS ARE HARD!!!
Laura is a very good teacher, she enjoys her subject. Not quick on giving graded work back. Her tests are reasonable. I took the 8 week course and studied daily, someone also made a blog of the notes which was helpful microfour.wordpress.com. She is not as hard as others say, Bio is tough but she is very straight forward in lectures. Extra credit!
I loved having her as a teacher. She is always eager to help no matter what question you may have. I even took her summer Micro course that I was terrified to take, and it ended up being fine. Just go to class and follow her study guides, and you will be fine :)
Brache is an okay teacher. She's a very sweet lady and very approachable, but bio 11 is non-majors biology and she still treated the class as if we were all bio majors. There is a decent amount of homework and her quizzes and tests are usually difficult. The final is basically all of the hardest questions from the previous tests/quizzes combined.
Awesome teacher. Took her evening class. Makes learning a subject I wasn't concerned with interesting and relatable. Take her if you're a bio major!
She seemed nice at first... Lectures seemed very laid back, exams & quizzes are not on lectured material but on applying the material in ways not taught. Back to back quizzes, exams & lab exams. I had to teach myself the material since I did not learn anything during the lectures. Hardest teacher I have ever had. Won't take her again!
Laura is a very nice teacher. Shes helpful when you dont understand something, and she is good at explaining the subject really well. Her quizzes and tests are really hard. You have to show up to class if youre not going to buy the book. Classes are barable and dont drag out. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class you want to take.
She is nice enough and pretty helpful. Tests and quizzes are fairly difficult-they are generally applications of material that was covered in lecture. Difficult to understand when no such examples are given in lecture. Don't bother buying the book, it is more helpful to research topics online.
Prof Brahce is a sweet lady & always willing to help & explain things to her students. You definitely have to study hard & fully understand the concepts to get an A, just make sure you get your questions answered. Her lectures weren't dull, but interesting & she also includes her own experiences. Subject is a bit difficult, but the teacher is good.
Taken over summer, so the pace was much faster. There was a load of information to remember; studying often is a must. Memorize everything from notes and study guides (that's everything you need to know). Very nice, always willing to help. Labs are easy, quizzes get harder with each one, exams straightforward. Easy B, study hard for the A.
Took this class over summer, we only had two exams and two lab exams. Labs are easy, lecture seems easy but you'd better memorize those tiny details if you want an A. Doesn't round grades even if you worked hard.
Laura was awesome! She was very knowledgeable in her lectures and enthusiastic. If you had any questions, she was more than willing to help u out until you understood. tests were hard, even if you studied your ass off, which I did. Not much extra credit offered. very tough grader. 79.9% C in her books. recommended if u like a challenge.
This class was very time consuming compared to any other class I have taken. Her tests are very hard and require a significant amount of studying to get a B and even more to get an A. I recommend taking advantage of her office hours. She is always more than happy to explain concepts and clarify. She is a very good teacher but definitely not easy.
She is really, really nice and enthusiastic but this is NOT an easy A. You will have to work hard and read ahead in order to keep up with her lectures. The homework takes FOREVER and it's given weekly. Quizzes are very hard and given every other week but it doesn't relate to the homework. Good luck with her class!
She's super sweet, but unreasonable in her expectations. There is a HUGE amount of information covered in quizzes! Quizzes are crazy hard and are given every other week. She offers no extra credit and grades harshly. Prepare for tons of cramming! She will answer questions if you ask. Good luck!
The are quizzes every other week, and they are crazy hard. Homework doesn't come back until after the relevant quiz. Turn in every assignment, be there for every class, and work like you've never worked before. There is no extra credit, only "banking points" for those who missed an assignment. There is a TON of work and she is a tough grader.
I took this class in the spring and Laura was going through some family troubles during the time and would slack alot on the grading. However she was not easy on the test. The study guide would be posted really last minute before the test and the test would rarely correlate with the study guide. Really annoying.
Her grading it totally unfair. One of the worst professors I have ever had. Knowing the materials gets you nowhere and talking to her about how to improve your grade is a waste of time. A large portion of your grade is based on a group project that your group grades you on. In class assignments are given. She goes over what she already discussed.
I'm going to miss her class. Good professor, very caring, empathetic, and personable. It's not an easy class, but chances are if you are starting down the road toward biology or nursing or something, you've got Anatomy and Micro ahead of you, so you better get used to it. No more quizzes, good study guides, tons of homework/assignment points.
Laura was awesome! She is picky about grading free response answers and lab exams are very tough, but she is an amazing instructor and loves to answer questions. She stays late during labs to let students look at stuff under the microscopes and will talk to you about anything relating to biology. Her lectures are very easy to understand as well :)
This class takes work. Show up. Take notes. The tests follow the study guide. The answers should be in your notes. You will not get an A if you do not have the spoken lecture material. Take good notes, and fill out the study guide in detail, you can get a A. The group project sucks if you get a D student group, which I did. Very approachable
Professor Brahce is a wonderful professor. Very intelligent and kind. However, there is so much material to cover in this class that the exams (lecture and lab) are very overwhelming. Use the study guides and her office hours to your advantage. She is very structured in her lectures which helps with the organization of all the material.
Laura is a really nice person but that doesn't translate well in her teaching style. Her lecture, as well as, lab exams are extremely difficult. The questions asked are "application" questions. She assigns connect reading homework but they honestly have nothing to do with and do not help at all with tests. I would recommend any other teacher.
I highly recommend that you find a different biology teacher. Laura really makes you work for a good grade in her class. If you have a lot of extra time outside of class and don't have to worry about a job, other classes, or a social life you can take her class. She still goes off her old textbook making studying with the new textbook difficult.
Hard class, but passable. You don't really use the physical textbook, you only really need the Connect Code. She is super nice and helpful. Even through some tough family times, she kept up with the class.
Read the transcrips and the chapters and you will do great on her tests! She gives study guides which help a ton! Extra credit options, and she is not a tough grader. Would recommend her for Bio classes!
Tests have nothing to do with the homework provided. Gives multi-part questions that leave you less than a minute per part during the exam. Has mini-essay questions as well. Not enough time for the detail she is requiring. It's a Community College course for non-science majors. Should not be this in depth or difficult.
I thought Microbiology would have been easy, however, I was wrong. Its not necessarily the Professor. She gives good lectures and at lab explains what we need to do. The only advice I can give is, study, study, and study!
Prof. Brahce is a very nice person but not a good teacher. Her lectures have nothing to do with the quizzes/tests. Exams are extremely difficult, half of the exam is fill in. She often goes on random tangents during lecture and often lets lecture out early. My class would consistently do poorly on quizzes/tests. Definitely would not recommend.
She is very approachable and kind if you have any questions about the material. Studying is never easy, but her tests will be if you study the transcripts and study guides. Always show up to class or you will definitely not get an A. She gives extra credit and participation points if you show up! Overall, I would recommend.
Laura is a wonderful person, but not a wonderful professor. Her study guides, labs, and lectures are very straight forward, however the exams are extremely difficult and have nothing to do with any of lectures. She also grades very hard. I understand this is a science class but its also a GE course and she should have some compassion for students.
I would not take a class from her again. She was not approachable if you had questions. I would try to ask her things and she would zone out and then reply to a question I didn't ask. She constantly said things like, "You already know all of this" or "I don't need to talk about that" in lecture. It was extremely frustrating. There was no grace.
She really expects a lot out of you. The test and quizzes are pack with a ton of information and its hard to even study with all the information she expects us to know.
She's a tough grader, but she's fair. She is willing to meet with you during office hours to discuss any questions you have, so take advantage of that! I wouldn't have been nearly as successful without those meetings. The material is difficult, but it isn't her fault. Study guides are just "guides." Dig deeper to really understand the material.
Laura is a nice person but as a teacher I don't recommend. The main issue was the low quality lectures. She would always answer questions if you needed, but to be honest the explanations she gave weren't usually helpful. Tests/quizzes were very difficult and she grades hard. Basically avoid taking an online hybrid class, you barely learn anything
Professor Laura Brahce is a very tough grader and subjective. This class is not an easy A, coming from an A student. Her exams compose of Lab and Lecture combined, given during Lecture hour time. As such, there is not enough time to process a question. The tests are multiple choice, match, fill in the blank, and written answers. Avoid if you can.
Since my last review got removed for no reason. I will post again that this was by far the poorest quality course I took during my time at Sierra. I cannot say enough times how frustrating the professor was. Exams time limits are too short for 95% essay question and fill-in answers. This is a general ed class, not med school. The workload is crazy
Great professor! Microbiology isn't meant to be an easy course, but I really enjoyed taking it with her. She knows her stuff and is very relaxed (and funny). She made her expectations clear and went over things multiple times to ensure understanding. Lecture attendance is a MUST. She pulls some test questions straight from the study guide. STUDY!
I took this class online, and learned a lot. She gives really good feedback and will tell you the correct answer if you get it wrong so you actually learn. It was a nice experience. If I hadnt skipped a couple of assignments, I wouldve gotten a better grade.
Amazing professor, shes well informed and will help when needed. All the labs and quizzes are graded fairly although the exams are packed with information which she offers a detailed study guide. Biology is a hard course in general but she keeps it clear and organized!
Nice and relaxed person, and an organized and approachable professor. If biology or nursing is your major, I would take her. She is knowledgeable and you learn a lot in her class. I must admit that she is a tough grader If you want an "A" get ready to memorize EVERY word from her lectures AND the lab book.
One of the most difficult classes I have ever taken at Sierra. So much information, impossible to retain any ay all let alone remember it for the insane quizzes where the time limit is almost unfair for what she asks you to answer.
So much work and material to learn
Brahce is a wonderful professor, she offers good feedback and help when you need it. Her tests/quizs are hard, memorization is your friend. Her study guides are exactly the questions she puts on her tests/quizzes. Clear grading criteria, lectures are long but its biology! She does use the book so make sure you get it or pair up with a friend.
Professor Brache is one of the nicest professors I have ever had. Her lectures are enjoyable. But at the end of the day, her study guides are too long, and specific. Her exams are HORRID, and have way to much going on. She makes them difficult on purpose. She needs to limit the info to the main topics, and not require so much info to be memorized.
I took her class and got an A so believe what I say. She's a terrible professor. She's super nice as a person but her exams and quizzes were horrid. They are so specific I have friends in med school laughing because there are questions even they don't need to know. She does not give enough time for her exams at all. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
She is a very nice person, but her study guides are quite long and you have to actually understand the material to get A's on exams. Especially since her exams became online, there wasn't enough time to complete them and there were many questions that required you to choose more than one answer which made it very difficult. Don't take her online.
Don't let her sweetness fool you. Her study guides do not correlate with the exams whatsoever. Her online tests are horrible. Only one question shows up at a time (you can go back to them), and only 50 mins given for 24 questions- essay, fill in the blank, and multiple answer questions. You dont even have time to process the question.
There were a lot of tests (every other week + a final), and while Laura provided study guides for each exam, you really have to know your stuff in and out to do well on the exams. There were a lot of hw, labs, and discussions to boost your grade tho. I also found that Laura was very open, answered questions, and provided solid and complete feedback
A very nice person however it is clearly obvious she would rather be teaching a different course than Bio01. While she is extremely knowledgeable, her lectures are extremely dense with enough information to give you a headache and confuse you on what you need to know. Exams are horrid with extremely detailed questions an essay and little time.
She stopped caring less than halfway through and it showed. She posted things late in the week, her homework assignments were pure busywork, and her lectures were lazy. The exams were altered to be nearly impossible to pass (so people using the internet would be at a disadvantage), but it felt like I was being punished for being honest!
Straight A student who did everything to pass the class, still didn't. She is a bad teacher who is unreasonable. If you want to keep a good GPA, never take her. Tests are ridiculously difficult and the study guide does not help on the exam.
Laura knows her field really well, but the exams and quizzes are hard. The questions take up too much time and I wish it was in a different format. She is a super tough grader and hands out maybe 2 extra credit assignments.
She's a good teacher, but her quizzes and tests are extremely difficult and there isn't enough time to complete them. Way too little information given in lecture for what she asks for on tests. She had three extra credit assignments, and she gives okay feedback.
At any cost, I would avoid her. If you need your GPA to be high, you will likely not be able to earn an A in her class. I would highly recommend to take a different bio teacher or simply try another CC. She used pre recorded lectures that she recorded a year ago that barely went over the basics. Her tests were extremely hard and given little time.
Three days before a test just start reviewing the study guides she gives, thats all the tests are literally. Laura is caring and really sweet. Do quality labs and all the extra credit you can and you will pass with a B. Also take homework seriously, it adds up. Overall tests every 3 weeks and labs every week. I liked her!
It is refreshing to come across a professor that actually cares. She responded to every email, explained topics until I understood them and was lenient on HW due dates. Her exams are difficult even with the detailed study guides she provides. The labs will save your grade if you have her review the questions you aren' sure about before submitting.
