Awesome teacher, easy to do well if you do the work!

an extremely nice person and understanding prof. I don't recommend her class- far too much homework every night, tests are impossible, doesn't teach during class, just reviews homework. take class if you enjoy paying 38 Gs a year to teach urself.
She is very clear and easy to understand. She really teaches you the language. If U don't want to learn then don't waste HER time.
Speaks too much english, considering it's supposed to be 2nd semester italian. There actually isn't a "real" class time, because all you do is read homework out loud.
Awesome professor, she really cares and makes the class atmosphere relaxed. However, if you're not willing to do homework and study every night, don't bother taking the class.
Her class is exactly how most classes should be, easy to do well in and understand IF you keep up with the homework. The homework was slightly excessive, but not unmanagiable. The video transcripts were the only part I disliked.
She is a good teacher and a fair grader. She is also willing to help outside of class, when possible. Just make sure to keep up.
I thought this class was quite a bit harder than Ital 111. Recording memorized conversations that were graded was hard but a good exercise. She is tough and asks a lot of you, but you will come out knowing a lot.
doesnt actually teach anything in class...you just review hw and essentially teach yourself everything you're supposed to know. However, as long as you keep up w/ the ridiculous amounts of hw the class is super easy.
Doesn't exactly teach. Only goes over hw in class. Occasionally, grades unfairly. Other than that, she's always willing to help you.
Quite condescending. Very mean spirited. The homework was excessive and did little to improve subject understanding. The memorization of movies was extremely difficult as the dialogues were very unclear and she graded to the letter. Don't even bother.
How does this woman still have a job? doesn't actually teach, you teach yourself through homework, expects you to understand Italian as quickly and easily as she does. If you're not a foreign language person- avoid her like the plague.
Smart, but terrible teacher. There is very little speaking in this class. Brusetti is condescending and only "teaches" when you ask her a specific question. Very easy class (if you do all the homework) but if you want a quality experience and a firm grasp of the language, find another professor.
This class is much harder than Ital 111. I hated memorizing conversations and having to tape them. She assigns a ton of homework, but I think it helps. She is definitely condescending and obnoxious at times, but she knows her stuff.
lots and lots of homework but it helps. grades very tough on tests, and tends to make you feel like an idiot in class if you don't know the answer. fun and energetic however, and although you're pretty much teaching yourself, she's there to help and is very helpful.
Mean!! If you dont know that stuff and ask her a question in office hours she treats you like an idiot! Hate the class avoid her if at all possible!
She has inspired me to move to Italy and settle down with a nice Italian man who owns a yacht on the Mediteranean. Good Professor, learned a lot, easy tests... however TONS of homework which can become EXTREMELY annoying when you have REAL work for other classes.
she gives a lot of work, but you learn so much, and its not too difficult. helps most everyone end up with an A on all exams.
I think the people that posted good ratings were hired. Or held at gunpoint.
Very structured so you know exactly what to expect and expects a lot from you - attendance VERY important - You do a lot of work compared to the other professors but it's all worthwhile> I know more Italian after two semesters with her than after 5 years of French - *get to know her in office hours*
If you are a slacker, don't take this class! But if you are intent on learning, it's great! Everything is very structured, and she is very clear with her explanations. Very fast-paced, but a real learning experience!
She is fun, engaging, and explains topics really well. No matter how many times people make mistakes or have trouble understanding the lessons, she will go over it again and again until you get it!
She is so nice. She assigns a lot of work, but it is worth it. Every exercise we do is helpful and she really makes sure we know and understand everything. All she wants is for everyone to do well.
blech! I felt as if I was back in highschool with all the work she gave! She makes you feel stupid at times and is VERY sarcastic. And no matter how much I participated it was never enough for her. If you can handle her personality it's not too bad. Her tests are reasonable. but if I can help it I'm not taking another semester of italian with her!!
She made my life living hell for the 3 weeks i was in the class before i dropped it. I would have to do 2 hours of homework for her a night and then stand up in the middle of the class and "present" it to her like i was in 2nd grade again. And if you asked a question or got something wrong, she laughed at you and made you want to cry.

She is clear and energetic and always wants you to do well. Classes cover material straight from the book so if you do the exercises, study the vocab, and participate in class you will do well. Tests are fair, but not necessarily in the same format as homework exercises, but she tells you how to prepare. Definitely take her class.
Horrible teacher. you dont notice at first... but compared to other italian teachers she is sooo boring, all you do is homework... all other italian classes are so much INTERESTING, FUN, and EDUCATIVE
She gives homework every time and checks it. Trust me this is very useful and I'm not the kind of person who's studious. Once you realize what she wants you can do very well in her class. She is energetic and funny! She is very accessible too. Other people might say that her tests are very hard.. it depends. I would pick her again!
I really liked Brusetti. She always answers any questions you have and is really accessable outside of class. Sometimes she laughs at you and makes fun of you, but she's not trying to be mean... it's just how she is. She does give a ton of homework but it's never that difficult or time consuming. It actually helps. Her outfits are great, too!
Easy class in terms of tests, but the homework is a **** and useless. Quite sarcastic and patronizing. Tends to pick on certain people (me). Gives wayyyy too much work, attendance is absolutely required. We had an 8 day midterm (including oral evaluation), which pretty much ruined my school/social life.
She's just not fun... at all. The point of taking a language is to enjoy and learn, but she makes it sooo dry and boring and just an overall burden. Take anyone but her... she is just tiresome
she makes it really easy for you to succeed. she always will help you out if you show that you put in the effort. (especially the labs...she will give you the answers). she always speaks VERY loudly & she will sometimes be patronizing & make fun of you but she doesn't mean it...don't take it personally.
She is so nice and wants all of her students to do well. If you don't like being graded solely on exams, this is a good class because she makes attendance and homework a big part of your overall grade. She helps you and is funny and interesting. take her class definitely
Brusetti was great! She really left me with a positive impression of the Italian language. She made me work hard, which included a lot of busy work, but prepared me so well for exams. When it comes down to it, she's a really good professor.
Very enthusiastic about teaching, always positive and helpful.
She's absolutely wonderful. Even though it sounded like a lot of work initially, I enjoyed doing the assignments and it certainly paid off. She is so approachable and helpful that she'll see to it that your questions are answered and she deeply respects students who take the initiative to ask questions and do better in the class.
I really enjoyed Brusetti's classes (first and second semester Italian), but she does have favorites and will pick on the boys in the class. She assigns a lot of homework, but it's extremely helpful when learning a new language. She will also let you know most of what's going to be on exams.
She is very enthusiastic in class but treats her students like they are high schoolers. She will force you to get a binder because 'folders don't work'. (I've never had a problem operating a folder) Participation is a must, which is also very juvenile. Take her class if you're just out of high school, otherwise she will seem very condescending.
It's apparent on day one, that Brusetti is all about her Italian class. Her enthusiasm and energy level makes the class easy to be alert for. She assigns a lot of homework, but ensures that you actually understand the material and can repeat it back to her on her exams. Her exams can be hard, and you will have to study on a weekly basis.
She is the worst professor I ever had. So much homework, and way too hyper. Dreaded her class every morning all semester.
Do not take this professor. Too difficult, tests are ridiculous and way too much homework. I have never worked so hard in a class and I got a B+ for the semester. She can sound very condescending in class and she often points out people's mistakes in front of everyone. Do what you can to avoid taking a class with her, it will bring your GPA down
she is the worst teacher, taking that class with her as my professor was one of the worst mistakes of my college career.
Definitely tough at first- so much homework all the time! But she tells you exactly what's going to be on the tests and I learned SO much. Started getting As on tests as the semester went on. Definitely not an easy class, but if you want to really learn Italian, she's great. Don't take if you're looking for an easy grade.
Condescending. If you have a question, she commonly interrupts you, attempts to make a point to the whole class and won't let you finish. She tries to defend herself on the amount of homework but when you boil it down, the work takes away from actual learning, seeing as all you want to do is finish. I'm stopping Italian and taking ALS
I took this as a summer course. She can have the tendency to make you feel a bit embarrassed for getting things wrong, but she does this to make you learn from your mistakes. The combination of Laura Brusetti's intense enthusiasm and strict attention to us properly learning the Italian language and culture made almost every class a joy.
If you want to learn Italian, and well, then you must consider Brusetti. She assigns a lot of work, but if you do it, you'll see results. If you slack off, it will reflect in your grade, and your ability. It's that simple. She is excellent at explaining difficult concepts, and will keep going until she is sure you understand it.
Very condescending. She will make you feel awful for ever making a mistake. She really takes the fun out of learning a language. I don't mind the hw (it's quite a lot) but I don't really feel its worth it sometimes considering the fact that she acts like our only class is her class and we should be devoting all our time to it. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Brusetti is one of my favorite people EVER. So nice and normal and passionate about Italian. I learned more in two semesters with her than I did in 8 years of French. The homework is not as bad as people say, and it's not difficult to do well in her class. She's hilarious and always makes class so fun, and you will definitely learn a lot from her.
Professor Brusetti knows the material inside and out. If you want to learn, take her class. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the place. She is the most helpful professor I've ever had (if you ask for it) and such a sweet lady. I close to take her for 2 semesters and I'm glad I did. She assigns a lot of work, but it will all benefit you.
Brusetti is so energetic and engaging during class. I really enjoyed having her as a professor. She is also very helpful and has a great sense of humor. She does assign a ton of busy work, but if you complete it, ask questions, and actually work hard you will learn and pass her class. She was also very easy to approach! I'd definitely recommend her
Brusetti is crazy in the best way. She's fun, energetic, dynamic. But she knows what's she's talking about. She's a great professor and she's the only reason I was able to live in Italy for six months without a single language issue. Don't skip class because she moves at a fast pace and you do have to work for your grade.
Before choosing her there are 3 questions that you should ask yourself: Do I want to go to class always? Do I want to improve my Italian, and I'm willing to dedicate some of my free time to it? Do I want to participate in each and every class? If you answered NO to any of this questions you should choose another professor. If you didn't, go for it
A lot of homework, and some difficult assignments. But a lot of fun, and very nice. If you actually want to learn Italian, she will help you, and if you don't as long as you're willing to actually do your work you won't have a problem.
She can be passive aggressive and disorganized and she also strays from the syllabus, but the course is easy. (If possible, take with Cote instead, she is much more organized, positive and helpful)
She gives really heavy workload and she teaches well. She is a very strict teacher but a very fair grader. She literally gives extra credit for every test. I like her personality. She is super passionate about what she is doing. Go to her office hour if you need, she is ready to help.
Absolutely does not understand the fact that this is a beginner class. Very tough grader and does not teach anything. Have to read and learn all by yourself and she expects you to do everything on your own. Crazy about classwork and participation. Wanted to learn my families native tongue, but she turned me off completely. Definitely do not take.
If you want to actually learn Italian this is the professor to choose. If you want to sit there and not learn or participate, definitely find a different one because you will not do will in Brusetti's class. I love her and will be taking 112 with her because if you work hard she is amazing
Prof. Brusetti is both challenging and encouraging. She LOVES and expects your FULL attention & participation. There's no getting around that. Come to every class with your HW done, prepared to speak in Italian, and willing to be corrected. I never had issues with her because I was always present, always raised my hand, and always strove to improve
I absolutely adore this professor! She is caring, funny, and well respected. She is genuinely there to help you. Participation is key in this class. Which most do not like but I promise and I swear by it, that it helps in learning the language. She makes the class fun and entertaining. If you want that I highly recommend this professor.
Participation is an important part of class but Laura only asks that students make a minimum effort to provide answers/continue conversation. She goes above and beyond to help students who have trouble in class and I highly recommend taking advantage of her office hours; she WANTS students to get an A and gives more than enough chances for success.
If you're a beginner in Italian TAKE THIS CLASS. Brusetti is an incredible teacher who only expects minimal work outside of class but plenty of participation in class, which is nerve wracking at first but helps you learn the language a ton.
Took Brusettis class for two semesters and would absolutely take more of her classes if I were able to. She's smart, caring, and passionate and she really does want every one of her students to succeed
This teacher is fantastic, but you have to actually do the work and want to learn Italian. She is always helpful, always willing to meet outside of class, as well as energetic and friendly. Don't listen to the people who say she gives a lot of homework because if they call that a lot of work, then they have never taken a remotely difficult class.
Incredibly passionate professor who cares a ton about her students and wants everyone to do well. She does NOT give a lot of work by any means, and her tests are 100% reasonable if you just pay attention and participate in class
Extremely funny, passionate, and effective. Had her for two semesters and would absolutely continue with her if I could. Participation really matters in her classes, and it should matter to you, too; it forces you to actually use and learn the language. She encourages enthusiasm in her students and will have you conversational before you know it!
Loved this professor and class, not difficult and I highly reccomend it.
Great intro class that really isn't hard if you put in minimal effort. Workload is pretty light and Laura tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A, B, C, etc. She requires basic participation but she'll have you speaking confidently in no time
Would take again, loved this class and learned a ton
Brusetti is smart and funny, and she's a great professor if you're willing to do minimal work. If you want to be lazy and silent you'll hate her but if you try at all she's willing to help you and she wants you to succeed.
LOVE Brusetti, she made me love Italian and I would absolutely take more of her classes if I could. Show up, participate, and do what she tells you on assignments and you'll do great. She is caring and funny as long as you aren't lazy and she really does want to help her students out
PARTICIPATE! It's scary at first but that's really all you have to do and it's whats gonna get you an A and help you actually learn the language
I love Brusetti and wish I could take more classes with her. Do what you're supposed to and you'll do great in this class
Good professor, easy class and you learn a lot
Good professor and an easy class if you make yourself participate. If you don't want to speak/learn the language definitely find a different class because you won't do well
Brusetti is the best teacher I have ever had. Super positive and make sure you engage! As long as you go to class, participate, and pay attention you will get an A. Light work load and easily manageable. Tests are totally reasonable, fair, and quickly graded. Would totally take her class again if I could!
Professor Laura is a wonderful teacher. She is very passionate towards Italian, and she pays a lot of effort into finding the best way for students to acquire the language. Tests are fair, and participation matters a lot.
Hands down the best professor I've had at BU. If you can take her class and you're willing to put in basic effort, do it.
I love Professoressa Brusetti, she is so sweet, kind passionate and really cares about her students. Participation is 100% mandatory, but it is a language class so to be expected. I've only been learning Italian for a semester but I have come so far and learned so much because of her! Taking her class next semester as well!
Hands down the best professor I've had at BU. Sincerely cares about her students and their success and won't let you fail if you work for it. Attendance and strong participation is absolutely needed to do well but that's expected with any language course. The workload is very manageable and the exams are straightforward. Loved her class!
I haven't taken Brusetti's class in over a year now but even though I might not be her student anymore, she is still great about being available to help with my projects in other classes or just to talk and catch up. She really does care about her students, even those she's had for a short amount of time. She is a great teacher and a great person.
She was oftentimes aggressive and rude to students. She doesn't actually teach you anything, you have to learn from the homework she assigns on MyItalianLab, even though she herself has said it's not a good platform. Then, there's a five times per class mandatory participation, and she would get irrationally angry when we didn't know the answers.
Professor Brusetti is an enthusiastic, funny, caring instructor who loves what she does. She encourages a lot of participation because it is the only way to learn how to speak which is why we take a foreign language to begin with. She is clear, helpful, understanding and I loved her class. Do what is assigned and you'll get a good grade.
I loved Professor Brusetti. Great professor. Learned so much. So energetic, funny, and smart. Work load is fair, tests are fair, grading is fair. Perfect beginning language course. Loved to go to class and always felt good when I left.
Take Professoressa Brusetti! I love her. I enjoyed every class. I've never had such a caring and enthusiastic teacher. I learned so much about the Italian language and culture. If you want to speak Italian, take Brusetti's class.
by far worst professor at BU, ridiculously strict it made me dread even being in the same room with her. does not allow any absences (not even the standard 3 for the semester) if you aren't in class she makes you present a note explaining why you weren't there. She gets visibly angry if you don't know the answer to a question
Great professor of Italian - she loves it and will make you love it too. Kind, understanding, enthusiastic. Really enjoyed class and felt great in it. I learned a lot and would recommend it to anyone who needs to fill a requirement but also wants to get something out of it.
Best professor - great teacher - kind person. Makes class fun and fast. I never dreaded going to class. Loved her and now Italian!
Brusetti is amazing, like the rest of the Italian staff here. She truly cares about her students and wants to help in any way possible. Participation is a huge part of your grade, and attendance is mandatory, obviously. Homework every day, but it's very minimal and takes 20 minutes maximum. If you do the work and participate, you'll get an A.
Laura Brusetti-McGinn is definitely one of my favorite professors at BU. I had her for two semesters and she was amazing both times. Anyone who gave her a bad review was just extremely lazy. She makes everything so clear, all you have to do is try a little. Definitely the best professor in the Italian department!
Brusetti is fantastic. During the COVID-19 pandemic she worked with her students to ease the stress and make the class a better experience for all. She explained topics very clearly. You should participate a lot in class - it's worth a decent amount of your grade and it's great practice. Excellent teacher and person, would HIGHLY recommend!
She gives a lot of homework, but it's really easy to complete and is definitely necessary for a language class. You can tell she really cares about her students and takes the time to explain when someone doesn't understand the material. She is a great prof and I plan on taking another class of hers next year.
Easily the best professor I have had at BU! Professor Brusetti is very passionate about Italian, and you will have to work hard in order to do well (i.e. participate, show up, go to office hours), but she is very accessible outside of class and genuinely wants the best for all her students. Your Italian will definitely improve!! I love her so much!
She cares about you and she wants you to succeed. ASK FOR HELP. SHE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU. Work with her and she'll work with you. You can learn this language with her help
Professoressa Brusetti is one of the nicest professors I've had at BU. Her lectures are engaging, while she also manages to make lectures fun. She makes the class super straight forward, and outlines exactly how to get an A, while also guiding you to succeed as well. She is super caring, and genuinely invests in her students. Awesome prof!
Prof. (Signora) Brusetti is an INCREDIBLE instructor; she cares so much about each and every one of her students to the moon and back. She is the most understanding, compassionate & passionate, and wonderful person I've ever had the privilege of being taught by. She is so transparent and genuinely wants you to succeed. She's truly a gem!!!
I *highly* recommend Professor Brusetti. I had a lot of personal issues come up this semester on top of dealing with online classes and she made sure I felt supported and that she was there to help me with whatever I was dealing with, even outside of class. She is a fantastic language instructor, and I will be taking her again.
Professor Brusetti McGinn is by far one of my most professors at BU. She deeply cares for the success and well-being of her students, is always available outside of class, provides amazing feedback and makes learning languages easy and super fun. Even if youre not very inclined to pick up languages. She is the most heartwarming professor at BU.
Prof Brusetti is an incredibly caring professor. Attendance is correlated with participation, however, she gives plenty of opportunities to speak which helps with practice. Is very accessible outside of class and genuinely has a passion for teaching. As long as you show that you're clearly trying in class, you'll be good. Super open to questions.
Professor Brusetti was one of the best professors I've had at BU so far. This was my first semester of Italian (for a language requirement) and I had some difficulty with some topics which she was more than willing to explain to me. To anyone taking this class, if you are ever confused on a topic, meet with her, it really helps. She's the best!
Professor Brusetti is one of the best language professors that I have had at BU. She genuinely cares about the students in her class, and she really wants to help you succeed. If I have the chance I will definitely be taking a class taught by her again.
Professor Brusetti was extremely clear and made sure to explain difficult topics multiple times in lecture. Sometimes the lectures moved fast and could be overwhelming, but if you reach out to her outside of class she is more than willing to help. Make sure to do the piazza homework assignments, and bring your questions from them to lecture.
I had her for LI111 and LI212 and I would say she is one of my favorite professors at BU. She really cares about her students and is super understanding/flexible with both office hours and deadlines. I think that having her for first semester italian made me want to take all four semesters of it.
Professor Brusetti is one of the most fabulous professors I have had at BU. She cares so much about her students, and asks for our opinions on how the class operates. If someone had a reasonable suggestion, she implemented it. She wants to help you, so reach out. I took her for LI 111 and her excitement about teaching made me continue with Italian!
Professoressa Brusetti is one of the most accommodating professors I have had so far during my time at BU. She taught me in LI111, LI211, and LI212. She really cares about feedback from students as she changes lesson plans to what students want to focus on. She is incredibly nice and wants to make sure that every student succeeds!
Signora Brusetti is the Italian Professor we all need! I cannot express enough how understanding, genuine, and caring she is toward her students --- past and present. I had her twice and both times were amazing. If you want to feel comfortable and confident in learning a language, specifically Italian, Professor Brusetti is your instructor!
I've reviewed Brusetti before for LI111, but she is an excellent professor. She is so incredibly caring, wants you to succeed, and works with you every step of the way. Super clear guidelines, no final, plenty of opportunities to participate, easily accessible out of class. Her class has been my favorite all semester. Highly recommend.
Professor Brusetti is one of my favorite language professors, and if you're taking Italian I would definitely recommend you try to take it with her. She's very passionate about the language and about students learning, and wants to help you succeed.
Professor Brusetti is the best language professor I have ever had and I am devastated this is my last class with her. She is so encouraging and really wants students to know the language and not just learn it for a test. She is so accommodating and caring. I can't recommend her enough!
She is an amazing professor! I was in her 9am session and I can't remember a single class where she wasn't smiling. She aims to spread her positive energy to her teaching too. She genuinely cares for your learning and is present to support you whenever you need it. Only 3 absences are allowed which is understandable for a 1st sem language course.
Me and this professor beefed all semester. It was an intro level course and she refused to speak any English in the classroom, and when I asked for translation she gave me an attitude. She HATES note taking and will call you out and embarrass you if you do, and then try to back herself by saying she's attended seminars and notes are ineffective.
She is absolutely the best professoressa I have ever had. While the material was very difficult and often heavy, she cares for her students and ensured that everyone felt comfortable with it. If you're stuck or confused, she is there for you and will help. Amazing at teaching.
Seriously the best professor I've ever had. I've had great professors but none that I've felt so strongly about to write a review here. I actually made an account just to do this. She is such a genuinely kind person who cares deeply about her students as whole people beyond academics. Taking her class is probably the best decision I've made at BU.
Professor Brusetti is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. She's so helpful and is such a great teacher but she also wants the best for her students. The environment in class is very comfortable and she makes it so that you don't feel scared to make mistakes. I would absolutely recommend her to all students!
Professor Brusetti is an amazing instructor who genuinely cares about her students' learning. With her clear explanations and willingness to help outside of class, the course is manageable. Using unstuck ai alongside the textbook is a great way to prepare.
Amazing teacher. Super funny and kind, made the class easy and fun. Gives lots of help on what will be on the exam. Homework is simple and she explains what to do. Weekly homework its very manageable and easy to get ahead on. Definitely recommend her for any level Italian. This class is perfect for beginners. Understanding on missing assignments.
Prof. Brusetti is one of the best professors I've ever had at BU. She cares so deeply for her students and genuinely wants to see each student succeed. I had her for two semesters and she is truly one of the kindest professors and loves to teach. She is so accommodating and as long as you go to class and pay attention, you will be just fine!
Professor Brusetti is one of the kindest and most genuine professors I've ever had. Her classes are warm, engaging, and full of passion for the Italian language and culture. She truly cares about her students, both academically and personally. I always felt supported and seen in her class, and her encouragement meant a lot to me.
Professor Brusetti is one of the best professors I've had at BU. When she walks into the classroom she's enthusiastic and excited to teach her class. The homework is super manageable - I've never felt behind in class. She really cares about her students too. If you have a question or an issue she is more than happy to talk to you. Highly recommend!
She is extremely hard to read, always unsure if she is mad or not, disrespectful to students
one of the best language classes I've taken at BU. prof Brusetti is incredibly passionate about the italian program, getting students engaged in class, and more. very accessible outside of class and willing to go over grammar concepts for as long as it takes for you to succeed. one of the best!
She is truly the sweetest soul. She cares so deeply for all of her students and wants us to succeed. I have had her through 3 semesters, and it's been a great experience. Classes are definitely participation-heavy, but it's not bad. She really is there to help you and wants you to succeed. One of the best professors I have had at BU by care
*Babson Review. I took her intro to Italian class and she was amazing. Very passionate about what she is talking about and makes all of the concepts easy to understand. I would highly recommend her if you are trying to fill a class slot with an elective and take a class that will be relatively easy.
