practice exams online, class dedicated to those who don't know the labs. go to review and exam days and you'll do just fine.
Laura is VERY helpful outside of class. She is great to contact even after you have had her class. She helped with another class's project. A great resource especially if you want ideas of how to expand a project (options available).

She has been awesome with helping students along the way! She will rearrange her schedule to meet with you if you attend class and give your all. She has been a blessing to have.
is not helpful don not take her class
She is not helpful and goes over the labs like everyone is already familiar with everything. She jumps from one thing to another and most of the material is new to everyone.Don't take her class if your not great with computers
She flies through lectures and gives no time for notetaking so just write down words and look up definitions in the book later. Sometimes she seems like she doesn't even know what she's doing. Pretty basic class if you know computers. Boring, but easy.
EASY!!! I can't stress enough. Go to class or read the book, you don't need both. Labs are easy till the end. Turn in all your homework and go to the review days before the test and you will do fabulous!
annoying laugh, not helpful, couldn't do the labs herself so she couldn't help students
Class was enjoyable. Just the right amount of homework. Professor is extremely nice and willing to help or accomodate with anything.
Very Nice Professor. One of the best Professors that I have had at oakland University. Exams are multiple choice. Is willing to help outside of class and work with you on understanding concepts. I would suggest taking a class with this professor.
fun class ok teacher easy 4.0 watch out for her barbie in a box though
I really liked Prof. Dinsmoor. She was very helpful with all of the labs, and she went over all of them to make sure everyone knew what they were doing.
She tries hard to explain by example, but it gets confusing and boring. She always talks about her personal life and experiences and its not helpful in understanding. She needs to slow down the slides and focus on whats on exams and labs ONLY!

Easiest computer class I've ever taken, even in high school. Teaches programs like power point, word, and excell. She is very helpfull and most of the assiagnments are self explanatory and easy. No need to attend the labs, you can do it all at home. She is nice and I recommend her.
Really nice and easy. The only problem is she is a little bad at explaining stuff and you end up teaching yourself in the lab
DAMN good teacher! She knows very much what she is teaching. She is fun, however if you know computers well it may come off as boring. It has a slow start. Don't think it is that easy all the way through. She has a heart to teach and will help anytime. I have $20.00 for your drawer Laura! ;0) MUAH
She really want to help. Class can be simple if you go to reviews or go and see her.
attendance is not required, even when assignments are due. ample time is give between the assignment of a lab and the due date. reviews test the day b4. i would take again.
Best class 4 CSE-she puts book notes on web, plenty of time for labs & goes through them in class before they are due.DON'T buy the book-its a waste of money-you don't need it for an A-just go to class, turn in every lab and study for test and you will 4.0 it without problem.Wish more were like this!
Helpful, friendly, decent prof. The CSE 125 class is a bore for those who know MS Office. Nothing more in-depth is covered. I had to tell her a couple MSDOS commands and a PPT trick, but overall, she was relatively knowledgable.
DONT BUY THE BOOK, you dont need it. take notes and turn in the labs and you have yourself an easy 4.0
Hard class, but she's willing to work with students when they ask for help.
Ok class
The easiest class I have ever had. I disagree with multiple choice programming exams, but thats the only semi-rough part. Went to class rarely if at all, got an A. Labs get turned in once a week, if you know what you're doing, they take 30 minutes.
She was one of the lab instructors when I took CSE. Extremely helpful and a cheerful personality (especially for a 8am class). She'd certainly go out of her way to help students.
very hard class if you aren't a computer major. the labs are once a week and it's barely enough time with the lab instructor if you need help. the teacher does want you to understand programming, but she teaches too fast. sometimes she forgets that this is your first programming class.
This instructor is wonderful. I took Java at OCC 2 times and i finally passed it after the 3rd time. I can rememeber walking to her class the first day and she said if u work hard int his class u will understand and dang am a great programmer now. I aske her questions all the time and she emails me back but i know sometimes she tries no too. great
Very helpful and will answer as many questions as it takes until everyone understands. I HIGHLY recommend showing up to ALL classes and doing ALL the homework. Programming is very hard for some, but if you can follow these two things you will get at least a 3.5. She also will let you have 1 page of notes in every quiz and test.
I never thought I'd be able to get this stuff, but I was programming by the end of the semester. She'll meet with you if you need extra help too.
I did not like her, she is really boring. A lot of times she will just be on her computer mumbling stuff in front of the class such as " Oh look what I just found, Visual Basic 2005 lets you do this, the old version never let you do this. Oh Neat." She means well, but she is boring.
Very nice lady. This is the type of class that you really get what you put in. It's HARD material, and you have to put a lot of time in to understand it. If you ask her for help she will ABSOLUTELY clarify everything. If you don't, she won't know you're having trouble. I realized this halfway through the semester! She really wants you to succeed.
amazing teacher she give extra credit every friday and if u pay attetion in class you will get a 4.0
dont have to go to class but she will boost your grade if you show up every time and go to ALL the extra credit labs! buy the book for the homework help..but you don't have to do the class readings
great class..u actually work on the computer...go to practice labs and average about a 70 on exams..u get like a 3.4
Great teacher! You have to work hard in this class but she does an awesome job explaining the topics in "lay mans" terms and then progressively gets more technical. You have to work hard but if you do, and do all the labs, you can't do bad in the class. She also curves the final grades and throws out test answers if lots of students miss it.
Extremely nice, wants you to pass.Recommend class for the basic requ. credit thats why I took it. Notes get a little unclear at times. Be prepared towards the end if you dont put time into the class it will catch up to you in VBA. That stuff is not easy for a person starting out. Lots of X cred. opp.s
I dk what this kids are talking about. I had the hardest time in class. If it wasn't of the T.A it would be impossible. Very hard class if you never programmed before
I agree with the person above, This has to be her rating herself she is a comp person afer all. Class was hard Thanks to the T.A. Tests were okay, but was way too hard for someone who never programmed before.
Um go to class. If not your life will be miserable and in order to pass the labs you'll have to start them 3 weeks ahead of time and devote your life to it. Or make your friend do it. IF you actually go to class you can get like a 4.0 easily. Yeah
This was the easiest class I've ever taken. She got thrown in 2 days before semester started and still did great. Very helpful, if you're having trouble with the labs she'll pretty much walk you through them if you catch her before class. Tests were easy with a 2 sided page of notes.
I highly recommend this teacher. She might be a little odd, but she definitely knows what she is talking about, and has no trouble getting the concepts across to the students. The class was relatively easy (I got a 3.6), and I've never programmed before.
I had no experience with excel prior to this class and ended up getting a 4.0 because she explained everything very well.
Great Professor! Never had any experience with programming before, and quite intimidated at first, but loved the class and she taught it very well. I highly recommend this professor! Just be prepared to spend about 3 hours straight for homework if you have no background with programming, and do not e-mail her at 10 the night before it is due!
Class was easy, as long as you take the time to do the homework and are halfway decent at problem solving and logic, you'll do fine. Homework was a lot harder than the tests. I had never programmed before and my lowest grade on a test including the final, was a 95% and that was the first exam.
GREAT PROF. MAKE SURE U COME TO EXTRA CREDIT LABS..ALSO GRADES ON CURVE
Her class is extremely boring, she is very confusing when lecturing but that is most likely due to the subject matter. If you struggle with the homework, she basically gives you the answers. Do your own homework, because that is the only way you will understand the material. The class is very easy provided that you are prepared to work.
This class and teacher were absolutely awesome! I actually enjoyed the class and the labs and didn't mind the homework. She is very helpful and knowledgable and I learned a lot. Anyone who says this is a hard class, that she is a bad teacher, or not to take it is probably someone who was very lazy and never came to class.
She's a really good professor, very helpful. Going to the lectures aren't necessary, but does make the homework go a little faster since she does a lot of examples. Easy, and pretty fun.
good teacher, very energetic
She was very energetic and passionate about the subject. The class was really easy and we basically did examples of everything. One of the best professor's that I have had so far.
She is a very sweet lady. Class is very easy. All you have to do is attend class and do all the homework. She is always willing to help and she has a TA who is helpful. She also reviews whats on each exam. Easy A course!
Great teacher helps out a lot and is energetic in the morning to make the class interesting. I would recommend her to any person looking to take CSE intro class
If you ask her a question she makes you feel stupid. Her teacher assistant also makes you feel inferior if you do not comprehend the lesson. She goes too fast in class and will not answer your question directly if you ask. At the beginning of the semester she just gave out answers to home work, but now she treates you like crap.
I will never take her again! She goes too fast in class and is not very helpful. Her and her teaching assistant makes me feel like im stupid.
Sooooooooooooooooooo Easy. Never studied 4.0. class can be dry at times but attendance is extra credit, you can be confused to if you don't show up to class. I can understand people that don't use computers having trouble. If you are a kid, this will be super easy. Nice teacher. Excel is totally useless. Don't get the book. First book I never used
Amazing professor. Explains everything in great detail. Had never programmed before and I did great in this class. He is very helpful and very through. If you do not understand something she is willing to help you. She has review secession before every exam where she goes through all the notes again and says this will be on the exam, this won?t be.
She lets you bring an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, both sides with any notes on it to every exam. You can type it, in whatever font and put everything on it. If you do bad in this class you are simply lazy and not coming to class. She also gives extra credit for attending class. The TA doesn?t speak good English and is confusing.
Ask Dinsmoor questions not the TA. 9 homework assignments and 4 noncumulative MC exams. Very straight forward class. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS. If you do not go to class you will quickly fall behind as everything complies. You need to know the pervious lecture to understand the next. Book was pretty useless as he puts all her notes on Moodle.
Dinsmoor is an amazing professor and I would highly recommend her and take her again. I got a 4.0. I had it at 8 am and she was very energetic and made the class interesting. She uses real life examples when lecturing from when she use to work in the IT department. She brings real world experience to the classroom.
Great person, loves to tell stories about her daughter. Amazing professor! Can go fast sometimes but that is the nature of the class. Posts post every VB project and code from class on Moodle. Everything is there for you. Go to class, pay attention and take notes and then look over the code. If you do bad in this class you are incompetent.
nice teacher. gives test reviews before every test and before the final. tests were pretty easy, usually about 50 questions. there is a fair amount of homework which can take a lot of time.
Class attendance is not mandatory but extra credit. Weekly homework assignments. Tests not that hard, can use two sided 8x11 cheat sheet. Does go a little fast through lecture but will answer questions if asked.
She's an ok professor. Her and her TA will make you feel inferior if they think you question was easily answered. She's sarcastic in a bad way. Weekly HW assignments, pretty easy. Take notes in class. Reviews before exams. Attendance not mandatory but extra credit and necessary to understand what's going on.
Great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is necessary if you want to understand the material and if you want extra credit. She's quick to answer questions. Homework assignments weekly. Reviews before the exam. If you study the material and attend class often, it should be very easy.
Class attendance is not mandatory-she records the class and puts it up on Moodle so you can do everything from home. All the homework is in the book-about one homework assignment per week but some take longer. As long as you listen and participate in class you will be fine. Allows you to use a sheet of notes on all exams including the final.
A pass/fail for 4 credits for you internship. You meet early in the semester and discuss what you do/did at your internship and then you give a presentation at the end of the semester addressing a set of questions within it from your internship experience. Laura is a very nice lady and easy to talk to if you have any questions/concerns.
This class was pretty simple. She counted attendance as extra credit, so it was worth your while to show up. As long as you pay attention to her lectures you won't have a problem getting an easy 3.5+
Attendance is no mandatory. which was nice! material is super easy if you know a little bit about computers, she is SUPER nice she is always ready to help and answer your emails. YOU MUST HAVE A BOOK. All of your homework comes from there, tests are very straight forward. She loves what she is doing and you can tell! Take if you want an easy A!
Really friendly, goes through the lectures pretty fast but if you want she's always willing to help out, the homework is annoying because you have an assignment due every week but the exams are fairly easy because she gives you a double sided cheat sheet. Overall a good class to fulfill the logic gen ed at OU.
What a great class and the professor was not bad either :)
Attendance is not Mandatory, but counted as extra credit. Lectures are recorded and put on Moodle. Homework comes from the Book; ~1 assignment / week. Material covered is easy to understand. A note sheet is allowed on all tests including the final. She is also nice and very helpful if you're struggling, though she likes to talk a lot!
Professor Dinsmoor is amazing. She grades very lightly, and the TA is the sweetest girl in the world. I was never interested in computer programming until I took this class. I have a 4.0 right now & all I do is do homework and pay attention in class. Get to use notes on exams! Take her, you will not be disappointed. Loved her :)
attendence is extra credit. shes a sweet lady & i love her TA! will help you one on one if you ask too and it really does help! im not into computer classes but i rly am enjoying myself. she lets u have a front&back cheat sheet for all exams and has one assignment due each week (on the day of your lab, so take wed lab!) easy 4.0 if u attend class!
Professor Dinsmoor is great!! Take her! She makes computer programming, something I hated before this class, SO interesting! I came out of the class loving it! One homework assignment a week due in your Lab, and you get to use a notes sheet on tests. If you pay attention in class, do the homework, and write a good notes sheet, you will do great.
this professor is GREAT! She is super helpful, in every aspect. You can email her, ask questions in class. She records each lecture and posts code done in each class online. Can use cheat sheet on exams. 1 lab assignment due a week. Her TA is great too. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it helps with extra credit. Great class and great professor!!!
Very approachable & nice professor. Attendance is NOT mandatory (she records the class sessions so they're available on Moodle), but she'll boost your class GPA at the end of the semester if you have good attendance :) would recommend
If you fail this class with this professor then you're probably trying to fail. Show up to class, listen, pay attention, do the work, and don't be stupid. I also had her for CIT 131 and it's same case. She's a great professor. You should pass her class with no problems!
She is a must take teacher. She cares about every single student and will anything possible to give you a 4.0 . She is also a great teacher to know because she is very nice and very active in campus life like being the head of Ted X
This class is really easy if you actually do the work and watch her notes. You don't need the $150 dollar book but you do need the myITlab. You get two chances on the quizzes, there is one a week. She's very helpful. Exams are on campus which was kind of annoying but worth it since the class isn't that hard. Wonderful professor, really helpful!!
Easy class, good to learn excel.
Great professor, very straightforward and easy to understand.
she's a very nice person, and is a good teacher. Except she goes toooooooo fast! But the good news is, if that if she is way too fast like she was for me, she'll post a video of that lecture as soon as class is over. If you ask for help she will help. I personally think she teaches better one on one.
I think this teacher is not as good as I suspected her to be, she goes way too fast and for example I'm beginner in programing. If she only slowed down a little that would have been so much better. BUT OVER ALL SHES A GREATE TEACHER and always there to help you whenever you need help!
She's a great teacher enjoyed every minute of her class. Her teaching is really good, she does go too fast sometimes but I always understand the materials because I love excel. You will learn allot about excel in this class and its not hard at all. I know lecture are record but don't skip her class because attendance are mandatory w extra points.
tests are difficult thank God for the T.A. help otherwise i wouldn't have passed the class. Rambles on about Bozo frequently in lecture and her life.
I love her. Her teaching style was amazing. She does go fast but you just have to keep up. There is a lot of material that needed to be covered in a short amount of time. You must read on your own in order to understand the lectures. I was a beginner programmer and enjoyed both classes.
Very easy to listen to, examples are easy to follow. Always posts lectures to Moodle, which is rare for SECS and great in case you miss a class or just don't show up.
Great class but she goes way too fast; I had her for CIT 131 in the winter and I got lost couple of times but thanks for her TA she was amazing. she helped me on almost everything and always offering to help no matter. Teacher can be sometimes mean but she's alright. Her lecture are all recorded!
Professor D is a very nice professor, this is her first time teaching JAVA, she didn't do that bad of a job but she goes to fast rushed through the lecture and when I or other students ask a question she would go even fast and not understand anything. GOOD thing lecture are recorded love that about her. BUT PLEASE JUST SLOW DOWN FOR UR NEXT YEAR!
Took this class online. She was okay. Definitely not my favorite. I emailed her MULTIPLE times and never once did I get a response. If excel is your thing, you'll be fine. If not, do not take this class; online at least. Exams are on campus. Allowed 2 cheat sheets for exams. Avoid if possible.
Laura was one of my favorite teachers! She provides the slides b4 lecture, can read them and prepare questions. Her lectures are broken into "learning new material" and "now you try it." ALWAYS available, ready to help. Doesn't pretend to know everything. Very down to earth. I liked her so much I went back and volunteered to tutor. Great teacher.
She's was one of the most annoying teacher at OU, didn't like the way she taught she would get pissed if you ask a lot of questions hated her class not planning on to take another class with her she sucks....... at teaching
After taking other CIT/CSE classes you realize how good of a professor Dinsmoor is. She makes you work but during the sophomore project you notice that the students who didn't have her for Java are way behind. Anyone who has taken her and tried will agree that she's the best CIT/CSE professor at OU.
Took her for sophomore project. She is alright, but a somewhat strict with how the project and presentation are suppose to be. Overall, make sure you partner up with people who are good at making applications and you will get an A.
Good prof. Puts lectures online so if you miss a class you can watch it. Takes the time to answer questions after class. Exams are easy multi choice
She's great. Lectures may be a little fast and attendance is definitely mandatory (and taken promptly), but she puts her lectures online and gives you plenty of practice during class so that it's not just her reading from the slides. She'll give you a solid introduction to programming.
SHES TEACHES VERY FAST. SO GOOD LUCK PAYING ATTENTION. MOST TIMES I HAVE TO GIVE UP BECAUSE SHE WRITES THE CODE IN 2 SECONDS THEN JUMPS TO ANOTHER THING, SHE DOESNT MAKE SENSE, SHES won't PICK ON YOU IF YOU RAISE YOUR HAND, OHHHHH AND IF U EMAIL HER, SHE EVEN SAID I WILL NOT REPLY. I ONLY DO MEETINGS, SO YEAH GOOD LUCK .
hey, future students of MRS. DINSMOORS. please understand one thing, this is college. now I don't like the way she teaches and everyone also says the same thing, BUTTTT if you study the book and do the books examples you will pass. she types code fast so be aware, ( its hard to pay attention at first but then you became a wizard a typing fast)
hi, it's me again ( hello future students of MRS. DINSMOOR) here's what to do to pass 1.) listen to her in class or the panaopto(DONT WRITE THE CODE AND EXPECT TO UNDERSTAND) 2.)read the book/ do book examples 3.)schedule meetings for help ( she will not help through email :(( ) 4.) meet with TA, they will be a MAJOR help to you. I promise
I have had Professor Dinsmoor for three courses. She does her best to give you everything you need to get a good grade in her classes. She has a lot of real world experience but you may have to take the extra step to access that part of her lexicon. If you ask the right questions she will even elude to why her children did not attend OU.
She takes attendance for your benefit alone, if she does an individual curve at the end of the semester she takes attendance as a factor. She's very if you try. She posts all her lectures online because she knows that she teaches fast. She gives you a double-sided cheat-sheet for exams. If you do bad it's your fault.
This professor cares about her students and makes her lectures as straight forward and interesting as possible in order to make sure you learn the material. I have taken her for 4 different classes because of just how great I find her teaching style to be
She's a great professor, she wants her students to pass. She posts her lectures online but she does give pop quizzes which help your grade a lot because your majority grade are your exams. The labs are straight from the lectures and can use notes during lab. It shouldn't be too hard to get a good grade in this class.
if you have never done coding in your life before DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!! prof disnmoor is a really nice professor but she goes super fast in class and her TA grades really harshly. the class might've been easy for people who like coding or did it before, but for people who are new at this it's really hard!!!!
Professor Dinsmoor will RUIN YOUR GPA, do not take this class, even if you passionately care about the courses content. She will turn you away from your passion and discourage you from pursuing it, she lacks the ability to be empathetic so don't try. I advise EVERYONE to take the course equivalent of this class at a community college, .vb and java.
Professor Dinsmoor is a great teacher. She really does her best for her students to succeed by doing a great job presenting and explaining. She records lectures, creates templates to practice on, and is always willing to answer questions. Homework, labs, and tests are always based on what she teaches and she is a quick grader.
She is one of the better professors for IT/CS majors, but she is a tough grader and hard to follow in class. She moves very quickly through lectures. Book unimportant, but we used iClicker for 10% of our grade which brought most of us down by quite a bit. Her scale relies heavily on exams, most of which have many trick questions. Decent prof. tho
She was alright, but not a teacher I really enjoyed personally. She teaches at a fast pace and although the lectures are online, you are advised not to miss class, as she will give pop quizzes. Homework can vary in difficulty, but is generally lengthy. She has her TA grade harshly and you cannot improvise on solving problems if you are stuck.
Recorded lectures, which is nice. Aside from that there no other good feedback to give about her. Her class slides contain info that you don't need to know and she moves very fast through the class. There is relatively no in class practice either so be prepared to spend hours on homework. iClicker participation weights too heavy as well.
Prof Dinsmoor is probably one of the best professors I had for CS classes. She does teach at a fast pace but you'll only get behind if you don't attend class. If you don't understand anything ask questions! She really cares for her students and wants everyone to succeed. Homework once a week; pay attention in class as half the hw is from lecture.
The way she teaches is terrible. She goes way too fast in class and expects you to go home and watch the entire video again. Terrible way to teach coding, i'm a beginner and i'm teaching myself better through youtube vids.
As long as you don't start the homework the day it's due, you'll be okay in this class. She and her TA's will help if you get stuck and her lectures are helpful and recorded so you can revisit them if you need to. She also allows notes on the exams, and never tests on anything that wasn't thoroughly covered in class.
Dinsmoor is great! Programming is HARD, for me, its not intuitive. If you aren't ready to put in some effort - don't take a programming class. My suggestion - read the book BEFORE you go to class. Take notes. You might not really get it when you read, but it will click more in the lecture. She's there to help, but come to her office prepared.
She recorded her lectures for us to rewatch later when we were doing the homework, which was massively helpful. She had generous due dates on the homework.
The excellent ratings are innaccurate, and seem to come from students who have a background of previous programming experience. From an any other perspective, she is an unfair professor. No room for mistakes, disrespectful to beginner students and what you don't understand something? That's too bad now your lab grade is 50% and you're failing.
Professor is knowlegable but harsh. There is a ton of material presented everyday and she literally flies through it. This may not be her fault because she has to get through a certain amount of material. The class itself is just hard. The labs are ridiculously hard and test you on way too much after only having reviewed the material for 2-3 days.
Prof Dinsmoor is a good person but not the best teacher for beginners, she can often go through lectures fast and sometimes kind off ramble making it hard to understand and the class can be quite disorganized but she is a very fair teacher, her lectures cover everything that u need for hw, labs, and exams as long as you put in work you will be fin
Programming is something that is not learned overnight. Professor Dinsmoor is a fair teacher that emphasizes important concepts, gives plenty of example code and additional resources, and gives you the tools you need to complete the homework. The biggest mistake you can make is not starting the homework early. Taking notes is also recommended.
This professor is a mediocre. Very rude and unhelpful person. I switched my labs and did the lab twice and still received a zero. I would turn my homework and my labs zipped properly but I'd still get a zero on the lab. I am not passing the class just purely because of the labs. I'd suggest you don't take her.
Professor Dinsmoor is the perfect professor for students who already have one or two programming classes under their belt. HW is fair and there are resources available if you seek them out, such as office hours (which for this class is a godsend). Otherwise, she's distant and was rude enough to say 'this class wouldn't be any easier in person'.
Terrible teacher!
Very unhelpful nd very inconsiderate. Never helps me and then jokes about taking hours to help her kids succeed. She helped her kids because cared about them, but not her students.
This professor never helps me and when asked claims I said something when in fact I never said such a thing. Thank God she is retiring next year, so those taking these next class are God send people. Do not take this professor.
I once had an uncooperative group member and she never did anything to solve. She said to deal with it.
Terrible professor.
Not the best professor. Lectures can be dry and unhelpful. Attendance is mandatory, but textbook seems optional. Unstuck ai helped with study prep.
