Excellent Course! Very Engaging and Cerebral. This woman is excellent.
great, engaging teacher. always available for help.

Wow, what an amazing Prof. She goes out of her way to really help students. I think she should be getting the teaching awards, NOT Dr. Mike!!!!
I question why all the love goes to Dr. Mike when this fantastic woman is teaching at Western. Explains thing as clearly as humanly possible while acting very professional and fun. The best professor I've ever had. And definitely hot.
She communicated very well with the class. One of the best profs I've ever had.
I dont know what everyone is saying, I thought she was horrible! She may have made the course easy, but I dont feel I took anything away from taking that class.
I'll admit that she's a okay: she explains everything pretty well, and she's very helpful. But her lectures are incredibly boring... I say Dr. Mike deserves the awards. Most teachers can relay information, most aren't very entertaining. She needs spice!
Explains very clearly. Exams were not hard nor easy. She's one of the fairest profs in western.
Amazing prof!! She helped so much and was so easy to approach. I found the material very difficult and she made is so much easier. I'm an arts student and taking psych courses next year just so i can have her again!!
i love you fazakas!!!!! she was amazing, gave great advice to someone going into honors spec for psych, and always responded to emails asap...the exams were very fair..and she was always there to help!
Very clear and organized lectures. She knew each lecture very well, making the pace of the lecture very good. Her powerpoint presentations were clear and concise, and her exams questions were not ambiguous, which is difficult to say for other Psych profs. Highly recommend this prof.
Amazing! A really genuine person. Smart yet able to simplfy! Also, gotta love her rapping!
This woman is a genius! Super intelligent with very well organized, interesting lectures. Best prof by far!
I back de Hoog hard but she's kinda boring. The course is easy if you do the readings and take notes ON THE READINGS (Highlighting isn't enough at all to get those 90s) and in lectures. She's clear and concise and knows her lectures very well and is also approachable anytime. She's the ideal prof.
Very nice , understanding woman. Her lectures are clear and well organized. She is a very reasonable person who marks fairly. The exams are as she says they will be and during lectures she will often say explicitly what will be on it ("hints"). Go to lectures and read the text carefully and you'll do well.
Best professor ever! She knows absolutely everything related to psychology. She is very helpful, always available before and after class and is very understanding. She has a lot of experience in the industry and therefore has many interesting stories. I highly recommend taking and psych course she teaches!
Good prof. Keeps the classes interesting with music at the beginning.
always has good stories to back up the material
AMAZING TEACHER! by far, the best i have ever had. she actually wants her students to do will and will go to far lengths to help. she is fun, nice, VERY organized, funny. her class was an absolute joy and i didn't even do very well.
She always made me want to come to class, and she gave really good exam practise questions/layouts. Being able to purcahse exams with the department the most useful.
Good at what she is paid to do. Nothing to write home about, but a fair and reasonably interesting professor.
avoid
She's ok. A nice lady. Shares an interesting story from time to time. Lectures are pretty well-structured and concise and she manages to end class really early, which is a plus.
My most favourite class of all time...wouldn't have missed it for the world. She made everything really interesting and had fair exams. I'm not even in this faculty and she sparked an interest for me about psychology. Kick-ass :)
Prof. Fazakas-DeHoog made my first year psychology experience delightful. She presents the material in a very understandable manner and is extremely helpful whenever you have a question. As a bonus, her TA Neil is absolutely amazing! Exams are great - read the textbook & attend her review sessions and you'll do extremely well (:
psychodynamic theraphy. focus on integrating personality thoughts feeling behaviour. focus on integrating past traumatic experiences.
Very helpful! Attend class and do your readings.. should do well.
You can tell Laura really loves to teach, and she loves hearing what people have to think about lecture material. Ask questions and raise discussions, because she will engage and make it more interesting. To do well in psych 1000 you have to keep up on your textbook readings, and go to lectures, because the exams include textbook and lecture Q's
AMAZING! Funny, interesting, and knows her stuff! Makes you actually want to go to class. Works in forensics/psych ward? so always has hilarious stories! I switched my major to Psych after taking her class. Exams are fair.
wonderful class! Dr. Laura makes lectures really interesting and she is very funny! However, the course itself is very science-y.
she's the 1st prof in my university life..love her a lot...she always make the class interesting and i decided to take psychology as my major after attend psycho1000, which her currently teaching. amazing lady!
she's the 1st prof in my university life...like her a lot! she always makes the class interesting, and i actually decided to take psychology as my major after attend her class. amazing lady!
Dr. Laura is a great teacher. I really enjoy being in her class. Tip- READ THE TEXT BOOK FOR THE EXAMS!
Shes awesome! Its a pretty hard course in general a lot of definitions and terms to be memorized but she explains everything so well and makes the course as simple as she can. The exams are the same for all the classes but at the end there are class section questions and hers are pretty easy compared to the other profs. great course and good prof!
fantastic prof. makes content interesting and adds her own stories from her practice. exams are very very fair IF you read the textbook (and i mean actually read, not just skim) and attend all of her lectures. can be really funny, would definitely recommend.
A little confusing at times, but very helpful if you email her. Had I read the textbook, I likely would have done better in her class. The parts of the exam that she herself wrote were very reasonable and her stories help students to remember various disorders (rubber pants anyone?)
Nice, funny, smart, helpful and clear. You can tell she's good and passionate at what she does. Read the textbook well and you'll do well.
Terrific teacher; so helpful and her personal stories about her psychology practice make the class very interesting.
Awesome! She is so far my favorite prof. Go to class to nail the class specific multiple choice. And read the Text book... All of it.
really nice lady. and considerate teacher.
Pretty good choice for taking intro with. I personally usually got out an hour and a half early, and she's very good at condensing everything relevant into that time. The only problem I had is that because the time is short, her lectures move at a breakneck speed. If you don't print the slides or are able to type more than 80wpm, you won't last lon
A very sweet prof who actually cares much about her students. Lectures are quite condensed and info-heavy, as she only holds the class for about 30 minutes, not 2 hours. If you have any questions, ask her right after the class ends, and she'll be glad to answer them and help you out.
Great professor. Lectures are actually fairly entertaining and she is sure to captivate your interest. There are pretty much bonus marks on the exams that you'll get if you go to the lectures.
One of the best profs I've had at Western. Unfortunately she got ill midway through the year and the prof changed so I stopped going to lectures because she was so much better and more engaging than her replacement. This was in 2008-2009.
So helpful and explains concepts very clearly. Basically gives you the questions on her lecture questions.
Laura is a gem. She gets through the lecture material efficiently and clearly. Our 2 hour course was done on average in about 35 minutes. You could easily keep up with the course by simply reading the textbook, but the lectures are worth going to, and there are lecture-only questions in the exam.
Wonderful woman and very fair professor. Highly recommend this course - very valuable and interesting information. Her review questions before exams are extremely helpful and guide you through your study process! No twists or complicated questions. Attend lectures and you're golden!
She is so nice and caring and funny too! Definitely knows what she is talking about and explains things well! Would love to get her again.
She was super nice, funny, and made the not so interesting material interesting. The positive side was the lectures were short but they usually felt kind of rushed. The odd time she would play a video and the class would go longer which made making plans after to be a struggle.
Walked in with no expectations, and had a great experience. Her lectures were clear and interesting as she would add personal stories and experiences to further explain the content. As long as you read the text book and attend the lectures, you will do great!
she was one of my favourite profs. she kept everything short and to the point, a three hour lecture became and hour and a half. she was funny and she told stories that we're relevant to the topic. very interesting and clear.
Honestly my favourite professor from first year by far! She is genuinely to the point and doesn't ramble on with pointless information you won't need to know for the exam. I loved her slideshows. Also, she always included interesting stories relevant to what you're talking about and that's what made me enjoy this class the most. Awesome course!
Fantastic professor who makes the classes fun. She is always available for office hours if you need help and her exams were fair with nothing too surprising.
Professor Laura was awesome. She got straight to the point about everything and her dry humour was amazing. Her 3 hour classes were always on 1-2 hours long because she does move quite fast, but everything is posted online. She leaves gaps in the slides she posts online so you have to go, but she was an awesome prof and her exams were fair.
If you need to catch up on sleep during a lecture, this is a perfect time. She reads off the powerpoint which she posts in advance as if you weren't able to do it yourself. Sometimes quite funny.
The best professor I had in fisrt year by far! Her exams are fair and she's funny! If you make notes from the textbook and study her lectures then you can get above a 90% for sure.
She's pretty easy if you study for her exam, and if you have a friend in the class to give you the powerpoints, you're good. Extremely boring though, which is unfortunate because she clearly knows what she's teaching extremely well.
Dr Laura is very passionate and knowledgeable about her subject but, after a long day, staying awake in classes can be hard. Also consider that she only releases partial slides beforehand, so miss a lecture and you are screwed! She also speeds through lectures in about half the allocated time, so unless you type for the Olympics you will struggle.
You have to go to class, because her slides are fill in the blank, however, her lectures are funny and the material is interesting. She gets the point across in lecture, but you also have to read the textbook for the exams. Only half way through the course, but her exams are fair and straight forward. Good prof overall!
Took her because she was supposed to be the "easy" prof, but as a result I feel like I'm learning nothing which screws you over for tests. If you already 100% KNOW you like psych and you can motivate yourself she would be a good prof but if you just want to step into it and see how you like it, I'd definitely recommend going with someone else.
Such a nice lady. Lectures are very straight-forward and to the point. There are lots of readings which you will have to do to get a good grade. However she's very good at explaining concepts and is always happy to answer your questions. Would take again.
Such a nice women who teaches such an awful course. Her lectures seem boring because its a boring course, but shes hilarious with some of her comments and stories which made some classes enjoyable. The exam is based on the textbook. But her lecture specific questions are easier than other profs, and she always throws an easy freeby at the end!
Didn't read the textbook and went to 50% of the lectures, still did well. Tests are very fair and can study 2 days before the exams
Think psych 1000 is a not bird course, there's tons of reading and loads of memorizing for the exams. Fazakas just reads off her lectures slides so if you can get lecture slides from someone you dont need to go to lectures. She gives you incomplete slides to fill in during class. the 3 hour sessions are really 1.5hours
Dr. Dehoog is a great prof. Lectures are boring tbh but she says lecture specific things that WILL be tested so go to class (sometimes seeing her videos allows for easier recall during exams trust me). She's helpful and super nice if you talk to her about any concerns regarding exams. Deff take this class.
she's just a great and funny person
I think she would have been better if her lectures were not so boring, she only reads off of the slides! Nearly don't have to go to lectures if you have a friend you can get notes from although she does give hints on exam questions during lectures. Exam was okay if you read the textbook. Not the worst, not the best.
Great professor. Lectures may be a bit boring but material is really interesting. Boring because she reads off the slides and occassionally adds more info, but when she does she speaks really fast, I recommend RECORDING your lectures. The exams are really fair. They say read the textbook but I only learned the lectures & got an 80. Lecturessummary
Laura's class was an easy A. As long as you show up to lecture and fill in her lecture slides which are posted beforehand, there's no way you can do poorly. Her exams are easy. Lecture is pretty boring most of the time, but Psych1000 is a pretty boring course, so it's not her fault. If you have to take it, she's a good prof to have.
don't be fooled, psych 1000 is NOT A BIRD COURSE. the info is interesting but you really have to put the work in to get a good grade. only need to go to class to fill in the blanks on power points. Very monotone, but clear and to the point. attendance only mandatory for class specific questions on exam (15 multi).
She has amazingly organised PowerPoint slide that are easy to study from and understand. Beware that tests and exams are difficult but that is to be expected in any psych class. P.S. she ends class an hour early :)
Doesn't test anything more than the material she has covered in the class. Has a dry sense of humor that might come off as rude or sassy at times and hilarious at other times. Overall, takes it easier compared to other Psych sections' profs and you don't miss anything if you don't go the class but make sure to get the notes later. Great prof.
Psych1000 was so easy with this prof. Her lectures were easy to follow, and her exams were incredibly fair. The class can be somewhat boring, and she doesn't do much to fix that, but it's the nature of the content in my opinion. Would definitely take a senior class with her if the opportunity arises.
Professor Fazakas-DeHoog's Clinical Psychology class was one of my favourite classes! I loved the content. Her exams are very fair. Be sure to attend all classes because her slides are incomplete and you need to attend in order to have complete notes to study for the exams.
Dr. Laura is very kind and sympathetic to students and is understanding of the grind; an example of this is the fact that she always ends lecture early. Her lectures are however extremely dry and sitting through them is pretty tough, as the course material can be quite boring. Attendance is not mandatory.
Certainly a nice person, but the lectures consist of her just reading off the slides. You can get over 90 though so its worth it.
amazing!!!
Dr. Laura is the funniest human being on this earth. I love her lectures, I find her dark sense of humour really funny. Course is test based (2 midterms, a final, all multiple choice),her questions are incredibly specific, she is very detail oriented and her answer-options are very similarly related, she tries to confuse. Pay attention.
She is my favourite prof! I love her classes! I always find myself wanted come to class and being completely into the lecture! She is really funny and uses real life situations to help relate to the subject. Be sure to go to class because she posts the lectures, but takes parts out so that you can come and fill them in!
Uses an hour to explain concepts she has three hours to cover. Class always ends early. She has fill in the blank slides and she blasts through them. Her tests are extremely confusing. Funny, but if I wanted to watch something comical I'd log into Netflix. Puts zero effort into teaching this course.
Very funny, simple lecture slides. However, they are fill in the blank, so attend class. Also, she usually blasts through the lectures, so longer lectures usually let out earlier, which is really great!
Boring, but lectures are cut short. Have fallen asleep to her voice so many times I don't know if I like or dislike her. Fill in the blank slides but nearly all of the exam questions are from the textbook. Easy 90+ if you just read.
Really monotone and ends class way too early. Reads from her PowerPoint slides and rarely elaborates on what is on her slides. Would not take again.
literally doesn't teach
Laura's lectures aren't very informational but she gets to the point and a lot of it goes back to the textbook so making notes isn't too hard. However, reading the textbook is a pain because it's so long. Laura's exams are very fair so you'll never be completely lost on the exams.
Great teacher! Amazing!
Lectures are very brief and do not always make sense. She does not seem very engaged in teaching and often sounds bored/boring. Cannot study solely on her lecture notes, must use textbook or wuck notes.
You must read the textbook to get a goodmark, this teacher literally doesnt teach she finishes class early and starts late. She is very monotone and all she does is read word for word off her slides.
Laura, where do I begin? Honestly, kind of iconic? She fully just stands at the front of the room, reading off the screen but we love that she is so TO THE POINT. I have a 3 hour night lecture with Laura, and have never stayed for more than an hour and 15 minutes. She is a true queen.
Laura stands at the front of the class and reads off of her lecture slides, there are fill in the blanks on the slides and she reads so quickly that half the time you can't even copy things down. the lecture is 2 hours and we are there for 30 mins. half the class doesn't show, likely because they can tell she does not care for her course/students
It's almost funny how horrible her lectures are. She literally stands at the front of this massive room, head down directly reading off the slides in front of her with her microphone giving ear splitting feedback every third sentence. Does she make any attempt to fix it? Nope. I've never seen a prof so obviously not care at all.
Good power point reader. She never teaches lesson and just reads power point. The most annoying thing is she never gives time for student to copy the slide down. Everything just goes away so fast and I never have time to copy the lecture notes down. I do not understand why she can become a prof if the prof doesn't even know how to teach. AWFUL.
Lectures are a bit heavy but she gets through them quick. Very to the point. Has funny commentary here and there. Gives you sample exam questions at every lecture and an actual practice exam. Overall an amazing prof
Very boring lectures. All she does is read off her slides.
I don't even remember what she looks like to be honest. All I know is that her class specific portion on the psych exam was very fair and always directly from her slides that my friend had already given me ahead of time. I loved psych 1000!
Overall an okay professor. She usually just reads off the slides but makes effort to help students understand concepts.
Laura is a western icon. she is super easy going and has a nice soothing voice. i took psych 1000 in the evening which was a terrible choice on my part because i never wanted to go to class at 7pm after the first month of class. the content was interesting and shes a solid teacher. go over the text book but not integral to do well
Laura is the queen. She uses fill in the blank slides so as long as you can get the full ones from a friend, going to class is not necessary. Psych is a lot of material but she makes the exams as easy as possible and even throws in a few free ones. Didn't open the textbook once and finished with a 90+
Though psych1000 was not a bad class in terms of grades, Dr. Laura is definitely one of the reasons why I never want to take another psych course ever again. She literally is head down, reading off a script word for word, no enthusiasm, no real engagement with students, nothing at all. Your grade may be fine but your experience will be awful.
She doesnt... teach... at all. Shes a perfectly nice person, but I can not in good conscience recommend that anyone take a class with her. Especially during the pandemic. This year, the lectures were just cropped versions of Dr. Atkinsons lectures, the powerpoints were abysmal & disorganized, and we had to read a textbook chapter every week.
By far one of the worst profs, puts me off from ever wanting to take another psych course which I am otherwise very intrigued by. Be prepared to be overwhelmed with content that is messily organized and basically rewording Atkinson's lectures without providing actual value to the course other than wasting your time. Terribly dry and boring :/
Read the PPT. need to read a lot of textbook content by yourself. Need to fill in the blank slides.
Prof. Laura is an excellent prof and really made me interested in pursuing a psych major. Her lectures were straightforward and inquisitive at the same time, which allows u to think critically. She's really nice and hilarious and offers extra help sessions all the time. I'll never forget the joke she said abt hardwork pays off and eat ice cream lol
Classes were very boring and often not engaging. She read word for word off of the slide shows. She played extremely long videos in class and never talked about them after. Three, heavily weighted exams that were filled with spelling mistakes, making it difficult to understand the questions. Would not recommend taking a class with her as the prof.
Prof Laura was a tough marker. No one got 100% in tutorials even when we answered multiple questions very well. The class was online and there was no synchronous lecture. The powerpoints were very unhelpful and the textbook + my own studying was what got me through this course with a good grade.
