She is really nice and explains things well. You have to work in the class, but she makes sure you know how to do it and are prepared. Good teacher!

very enthusiastic; keeps things interesting

Dr. Getty is a great teacher and really cares about education. She is willing to work with you as long as you are willing to put forth the effort.
Dr. Getty is notorious for her daily reading quizzes, but if you do the reading and participate in class, you won't have any problems. Dr. Getty is very intelligent and helpful, and I really enjoyed her class.
Hard but no papers required
You have to read and know your stuff for the infamous daily quizzes but after that it's not bad. Dr. Getty is really into the material and class discussions are interesting. Papers and assignments are reasonable.
hard and the material is super boring
other than the reading quizes...it's smooth sailing. the tests aren't that hard as long as you read the material.
I really enjoyed Dr. Ghetty's class... She's exteremely intelligent, not too difficult, and very enthusiastic. The daily quizes are sometimes easy and sometimes not so easy, but the tests aren't too bad if you don't mind essay tests. Take her!
eassy were very straight foward and pretty simple...realistic w/ word count...good prof!
Dr. Getty is fabulous! She is very well organized and clear about what she expects and wants. Participate in class and in peer reviews b/c your grade is very dependant on it. She is a fair grader and an excellent prof. She is fabulous--go see her in her office hours!
She is very straight forward in what she asks from her students. A very helpful prof. You can get a 100 on reading quizzes...she doesn't try to trick you, just read the material. Not the easiest, but fair in her grading. Class participation a must.
I love this prof she is straight forward and very realistic with assignments. I had her for 1101, 1102 with A's in both. Visit her in her office and she will help you with any question for her class and others. Very fair in grading, have to participate in class. Can be difficult, but well worth it.
Dr. Getty is awesome! I loved her class so much. My favorite so far!
Best English professor ever! She not only is great at helping you understand the literature you're reading (and believe me, that helps!), she also makes it interesting and enjoyable, which can be just as important as making it understandable. She has a great sense of humor and it shows. Just don't tick her off!
Amazing! She is one of the best professors on campus. Quizzes are notorious but if one reads, you will do fine! Expectations are high but not impossible. Will help you with anything. Clear about what she wants. Take her, not and easy A but you can earn one!
Quiz EVERY day. She is boring and strict. Expectations are outrageous. Decent grader on tests.
VERY unhelpful! Couldn't care less about her students whereas her schedule is top priority. Stay as far away from this professor as you can! Here's for hoping she'll wake up one day and make a career change!!!
This is not an easy class. She is more than willing to help outside of class during her office hours or by email. Quizzes everyday, easy way to keep a good grade. Exams are killer if you don't study, but she gives a study guide that tells you exactly what she wants. She is amazing. She loves what she does which makes the class interesting.
Very organized professor. You always know exactly what to expect. Sticks to syllabus. Gives lots of daily work to help overall grade. Very fair, if you do the reading assignments. Easily angered, though. Ouch!
This class is very time consuming...you have a reading quiz every day...but it makes you read and in turn get a better grade. The tests are very long and you must study. She keeps the class on schedule and sticks to syllabus...a really good english prof.
Amazing teacher. Really engaged the class. Lectures were informative and entertaining; not a single day of boring information or apathetic presentation. I'm taking more of her classes for the next two semesters.
I loved her! She is so sweet and grades fairly! She gives a lot of quizzes so be sure and read. Her quizzes will actually help your grade tremendously!
Great teacher! Never a dull moment in her class! Very funny and knows her stuff. She is able to help us relate to the literature. Make sure you do the readings, because they are very hard!
Dr. Getty is a good teacher, all you have to do is show up to class, pay attention and write your papers you can make a good grade in her class.
This is the worst professor I have had on North Georgia's campus. If you are in the Corps do not take her. I do not usually say this about professors. She plays favorites and if you are not one of them she will speak down to you and treat you badly.
Relentless quizzes. If you go to one class, you've been to them all. Little change in content from one class to the next. Exams are all essay with too-broad-topics and way-too-narrow expectations. Not horrible, but we never seemed to get off the topic of "outside influence" and onto other interesting common denominators of world mythology.zzzzzzzz.
Do not take her class! she does not care about her students and will not help you.
shes a tax

She's hard--yes. She's also fair. Whiners who don't do the readings say bad things, but don't believe it. If you don't want to read, don't take her class. If you want to learn, sign up.
Dr. Getty is not a good teacher at all. She just talks and talks about the works, but I sitll had to read everything about three times to do well on the tests. You have a quiz every single class and sometimes they are over vague details in the reading. You read all the time. Her class is impossible. I would avoid her at all costs.
A great class. Everyone on here that is bellyaching about quizzes is lazy. If you did the reading, they were very easy and only 3 questions long. I can write very well, and that helped. The workload is fine. I would recommend her class if you actually want to learn instead of just sit there and get an A handed to you. Do the work, you'll be fine.
worst professor ever. Avoid this woman.
I only got a C, but I enjoyed the lectures. I got help whenever I went to her office, but it is a lot of reading. The biggest problem were the students who sat there and said nothing, which made it hard. A lot of students dropped when they didn't study for the first two tests. It's fine if you read.
Dr. Getty IS of high intelligence. Those are mean comments made below. She's a very good professor. If you do the work, you will be fine in her class. If you are a slacker and don't want to work, you will probably fail.
If you go to class and actually participate (rather than just sit there), if you read and prepare for the lesson, and you study, you will do well in Dr. Getty's class. If, however, you expect to pass the class without doing any work, you will get what you deserve--An F. She is one of the best professors NGCSU has. They are lucky to have her.
I have always enjoyed Dr. Getty's classes (and lots of students pass, so they are not impossible). I didn't even know I liked Chaucer, but after her enthusiasm, now I do. And what is wrong with being middle-class!?!?! That student who put her down for being middle class is a stuck-up snob! I guess he couldn't buy his grade...
In my Literature class, Dr. Getty was unenthusiastic and there was never any depth to the discussions (yes, I participated). I got an A in the class only because I love literature so much. If you are interested in English, consider taking many of your classes with Corrigan. He actually enjoys lecturing and has a deep understanding of literature.
Dr. Getty is a good teacher. She knows her subject and is very willing to share her knowledge. She WILL NOT give you a grade you do not deserve, so don't waste her time or your fellow students' time by taking her class if you aren't willing to work.
Dr. Getty dropped me from the course in 2004 after I missed 3 classes due to a death in the family. When I talked to her I was told that I should have managed my time better and put my priorities in order.
Ms. Getty is pathetic! Worst professor ever! Yuck!!
Wonderful teacher! Easy to work with, willing to help. Often goes into detail and background info for readings and speeches. Very good at explaining. LOVES discussion, so if you are shy don't take. Dry sense of humor, but funny if you catch the jokes. Recommended if you want to learn.
She's a phenomenal teacher You do have a quiz every class but she drops the 5 lowest A lot of the works are classics so most of them are easy to sparknote for supplement and thats usually good enough for quizzes Pay attention in class and take notes and you'll do well on the tests You also can miss up to 4 classes but you'll get a zero on the quiz.
I have never EVER even made a B in any English class I've ever had. Now, I'm struggling just to pass her class. Her test essay topics are very ambiguous and it isn't clear what she wants. I don't see how anyone can make an A in this class. I love English; it was my major. I participate more than anyone else. She is ridiculous.
I do not have words to describe how disappointed I am in this class. All I needed to do was buy the books and study on my own. An absolute waste of my time. The most uptight and boring teacher I have seen yet. The only professor I have met that drops students for absences. I want a refund!
Freshman be warned!! She hates teaching lower level classes, she thinks its below her. VERY strict on papers and rarely hands out good grades. Seems to grade on how well she likes you. Buy the book and go to class and try to stay off her radar
All about her
Dr. Getty was a very challenging and intelligent professor. I did not expect what I got in her class, but I'm glad that I learned what I did. She was a great teacher. She was very informative and in depth. Make sure you show up to class and do your assignments, and you should be fine.
She won't let you sleep in class. Grades papers pretty harshly. Gives regular quizzes. Is more about grammer, MLA, and structure of papers, not content. Knows her stuff. Is interesting. This class is not an easy A. Go visit her during office hours to get on her good side. Do what the assignment says!! If i lived through it, so can you.
She was very clear on materials but she was not very helpful (at least) to me, and i hated all the reading quizzes we had to take except for the days we had test. Do the reading and you should do fine in her class.
I don't know if she is under a lot of stress or what, but she recently had a total freak out in class and started berating this one guy, shrieking like a banshee, there were tears in her eyes, etc. I almost felt bad for her except she is so unwilling to forgive students, why should I forgive her inability to control her emotions? Suck it up lady...
hard class but if you read every night to prepare for daily quizzes and study a bit for the test you WILL get an A. She was interesting and loves what she teaches, a brilliant woman.
Rude and egotistical. Made me feel very unwelcome when I would go to her office for help, but wasn't willing to talk before or after classes either. Made sarcastic and rude remarks to students during class, I could tell the whole class was afraid to say anything, so class was boring and even though I'm an English major, I'll NEVER take her again.
Thought the class was horrible. Too much reading and you will have quizzes everyday that have questions about small details. If you are really into literature go for it, she knows what she is talking about. I honestly thought it was one of the worst classes I have ever taken.
Tried sticking it out in her class... Ended up dropping it. If you are going to have a life other than her class forget it. Had to read more for this class than ever before. Quizzes everyday which asks for small details. Overall she seemed to be anal about everything. My least favorite professor by far in three and a half years.
Dr. Getty is very intelligent and you will learn a lot in her class. There are reading quizzes but they are easy if you actually do the reading. Best piece of advice: do the work and go to class; if you don't, she will destroy you.
Quizzes every day, and her tests have 7 quesitons on them, so study up for that. If you do the reading and take notes in class, you can do well, but for a core class, I don't think this much work is necessary.
This is probably the worst teacher I have ever met at North Georgia! She is the hardest teacher I have ever had in my life. No matter if you read, study, and take notes in her class she will fail you. I even went to her office, and she act like I was not important. Unless your a teacher's pet, and kiss her butt you will not pass this class.
EASY EASY CLASS! Loved her! So simple, barely had to study for her test. Just pay attention and read the book and you will get an A!
This teacher is very difficult. I don't know why anyone would say she's easy because she's not! If you can take someone else, do it! Rules of the class don't be late,no computers, no cell phones and be ready to read out loud and answer questions. If not she will make the test harder. Oh yeah half of my class was failing at midterm, so good luck!
This teacher is unlike any teacher I have ever had at NGCSU (least favorite). Please do the reading, there is a ton of reading and the exams suck! she will ask detail questions that you can't possibly know. You will eat, sleep breath this subject, so get ready. If you can take someone else I would advise you to do so.
Dr. Getty is definitely a challenging professor. However, if you buckle down and study and read every night for an hour or two you will do just fine. She is very passionate about world lit and her perspective on things is very interesting. I thought this was an awesome class but don't take her if you are looking for an easy A.
Do not take Dr. Getty. Her tests are insanely hard. You literally have to have the book for class and read every day for an hour or two prior to class. Avoid at all cost. Tests are ridiculously hard yo.
WORT TEACHER EVER! Seriously she's ridiculous and extremely rude. Do not ever take her, even if you have to. Wait for someone better.
This class was super difficult! I was a 4.0 student and made a C.. test ask very specific questions so you have to read and definitely have to listen and take notes in class...she only gives 5 grades and that is the 3 test and midterm and a final but final isn't comprehensive. Definitely not as easy class if you aren't an English God...
I really enjoyed Dr. Getty's composition class. The assigned readings were interesting, class discussion wasn't completely boring, and she gives you an opportunity to write papers about things you actually care about. Just respect her and come to class prepared, and you'll do fine. :)
Honestly, this class was not hard at all. If you don't go to class, prepared to get dropped. She may have an ego, but she definitely tells you what will be on her tests. It takes some effort, but it's not too difficult; just read. Read. Read. Read and you'll be fine. Those who complain about her class probably have credible work ethic.
Dr.Getty is often rude and condescending, but if you take notes, stay on top of the reading schedule, and review before exams you can, pass the class. Do not take it expecting an easy A. Not attending the class will drop you grade an entire letter. Avoid taking her if you can, but be prepared to work hard if you do.
Her class was like kidney stones; long, painful and the outcome makes you queasy. It was the hardest C I have ever earned. If you have the option, I'd suggest taking American Lit. Otherwise, good luck...
I'm normally a 4.0 student, but despite reading and rereading and rereading, I BARELY squeezeed by with a B. The questions are EXTREMELY specific and fail to pertain to real life. Only take her if you HAVE to or love literature and pay extreme attention to detail.
Very challenging. Prepare for every class. She loves her work and is insanely intelligent. Make an appointment to go over your test; that is where she is most helpful.
She is an overall quality teacher, her lectures are worth taking notes and has a lot of knowledge on the literature being reviewed. Her coursework on the other hand is much harder than it needs to be, and she grades strictly and gives vague information about tests.
this is the hardest class i have ever taken!!! i studied so much for the daily quizzes and still do bad on them because they are very detailed. do not take her!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. I am a A and B student and I got a D in this class. She gives daily quizzes and they are hard and they count for 40% of your final grade. The tests are hard. I would not recommend her. Nice lady, very hard class.
Good grief. These reviews are terribly skewed. If you tend to slack off and if you are not a committed student, do not take Dr. Getty. There WILL BE daily reading quizzes in all her classes. If you read the material, they are easy. Also, she drops the lowest four. Overall, Dr. Getty is a great professor with a wonderful sense of humor.
She's a tough professor because she's insanely competent in her work. She knows what she's talking about and is expecting you to try hard. You definitely have to earn a good grade. There are easy daily quizzes. If you read, you'll be fine. Plus, she drops the lowest four. She tells you what she's looking for on her tests. I enjoyed her class.
Even if you do well on the quiz's , the essay part on the test is ridiculous. If you read you'll do fine, and you have to make yourself be apart of the reading if not you'll miss what your asking on the quiz's. She talks so much afterwards. I just wouldn't have taken her if I didn't have to.
Although this class wasn't incredibly easy for me, I found it to be pleasantly challenging; it was very rewarding to receive an A in the class. Be prepared to read, and if you don't show up for class, you definitely won't pass. Take detailed notes. It's not impossible to get an A, but the people who receive As usually have to work for it.
Unless you are majoring in English and are incredibly passionate on the subject, don't take her. Nice lady but she expects you to remember the TINIEST details from the readings. I actually did the reading every week and still didn't pass all the quizzes. It was a really hard class and the only one I didn't get an A in last semester.
Dr. Getty is a kind person, but she wasn't cut out for me specifically. Her quizzes are very detailed, and count for the majority of your grade. I'm a student of the sciences, and get good scores on much more complicated topics as literature, and I still managed to make a D.
Major league class at a little league school. Enough said.
I received A's in both on my English 1101 and 1102 classes and still managed to receive a D. Super vague in her study guides for the essay based test and grades extremely hard. I was never able to pass a test. I did the reading every week and still hardly ever managed to pass the daily quizzes. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU DON'T HAVE TOO!
I love Getty!!She is by far the best literature teacher I have ever had. It is an extremely lecture heavy course and I am mostly avisual learner but there is something about the way she lectures that draws you in!!! I could not have been happier taking this professor. She makes me sad that I have no more lit classes to take! Daily quizzes are easy
My class was World Literature 2. It is a hard class, but my favorite class this semester. Most of your grade is from 4 essay tests, and quizzes on the reading. YOU MUST READ OR ELSE YOU WILL FAIL THIS CLASS. Some of the readings are enjoyable, some aren't. Professor Getty is really funny, especially later in the semester and if your class is good.
Very passionate and well read on her subject matter, and she expects you to be as well. You will learn a CRAP-TON about literature from her, this could be good or bad. Quiz every day over about 20 pages worth of material. If you put in effort and come to classes and tests prepared, you will be fine, If not she will destroy your hopes and dreams.
Getty is super funny and cool, but don't underestimate her class. You'll have a reading every night and a reading in class. Her tests are passable but the multiple choice portion is very specific and she's a very tough grader on the essay portion. Unless you're an english major, I suggest taking a different class.
Dr. Getty is great. As long as you read the assigned readings you will do fine. The textbook is a free online anthology and every class there is a short quiz over the reading. The tests are mostly essay based but you get the essay topic a week ahead. If you read and prepare you will do fine.
So we are currently at midterms and my first impression of Dr. Getty hasn't changed.. She is very intimidating. That doesn't mean I dislike her, but sometimes her sense of humor can come across as belittling or rude. The reading HW takes LOTS of time. Quizzes each day are very specific. Multiple choice on tests VERY specific, hard to study for.
I took Dr. Getty's honors world lit 1st semester of freshman year and it was extremely difficult. If you do the reading homework (about 20-30 pages a night) you'll pass the quizzes easily. The tests, however, are extremely particular multiple choice questions and essays which are graded harshly. I liked her socratic teaching style, but study hard.
She would get very angry and force students to leave class for doing so much as checking the time on their cell phones. She would also interrupt frequently and clearly had little respect for students. Way too many reading assignments and there was a quiz every day.
Getty is very vague in her teaching, and she expects the world of you--it's like she doesn't realize that we have OTHER studies. My advice: avoid Getty at all costs.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Getty's class.
Dr. Getty is an amazing teacher! She gives quizzes everyday so reading and class attendance is mandatory, but the questions on the test are multiple choice and come from the written quizzes, plus an essay portion that counts for most of the test grade. I loved having her and I look forward to taking her again next semester.
She is very clear, and in her lectures, she goes over everything she wants you to know for the tests. Also, be ready to read before every class and have a quiz on that reading every class. Daily quizzes but if you do the reading you'll be fine. overall she is a good teacher and fair grader. you have to work for your grade but just pay attention.
She constantly lectures and makes you read around 40-50 pages for every class. Theres a quiz every day so you cant skip the reading. The exams are long and very specific so there close to impossible. If you are willing to work then you can definitely make it in her class.
You will have a quiz every single day over a 30-40 page reading. In class she goes over your reading once youve read it. This takes up almost half of class. Her exams are not easy. She includes questions that you will not know so you can not prepare for all of it. I personally was not a fan and she was very rude some days.
I had Dr. Getty for an online short session over Agatha Christie. It was a lot of reading and homework packed into a very short time, but the discussion posts, midterm, research paper, and presentation we had were graded easily as I expected Dr. Getty to grade much harder. Easy A if you do the reading. Responds to emails and grades things fast.
If you can avoid taking her class I would by all means. The only nice part is she gives the textbook for free (because it's the one she wrote). Her grading style is NOT clear, there are quizzes every class, & she is not open to any varying interpretations of the readings. Very narrow minded for a professor. Any other professor would be better.
Dr. Getty is a very inconsistent grader on the essay portion of her exams. There are quizzes at the beginning of every class period over 20-30 pages of assigned reading from the textbook, and the questions are very specific details. I'd recommend taking literally any other professor over taking her.
She gives a quiz everyday and test are about lots of readings but they r very specific so its hard.
Dr. Getty is intimidating. She assigns around thirty pages of reading for every class and gives a reading quiz at the beginning of every class. The quizzes are very specific and hard to do well on. Every test consists of multiple choice and an in class essay. She will drop you from the class if you miss more than four days, so you cannot miss class
If you dont read, you wont pass. Super strict with exams. You have a quiz the first five minutes of every class so dont be late and make sure you read the books. Seriously, using a summary website wont help you pass. The exams are questions like the quizzes so keep those. You wont know your grade unless you keep up w it. Also, tests are hard.
It is heavy in reading, as is expected with an English course. The weekly discussions were thought provoking but not too difficult. If you stay on top of the reading you can easily pass. I reached out when I needed help and she responds quickly. Definitely would take again.
Professor Getty is very intimidating. I had her with a hybrid class, and this is most definitely the hardest English Ive taken. She is very strict when she grades, and checks every detail. There is about 30 pages of reading, and none of it makes sense usually. This class revolves around discussion post, and these are the majority of your grade.
Hardest English class I have ever taken. Lots of reading each week for the discussion post. You read about 30 pages per week. Essays on exam were hard and quizzes are too specific about the readings. Overall I would take again. If you care about your grade and put in effort youll be fine
If you're an English major, she's great choice. If English still comes easy to you, but you have a lot on your plate, it's probably best to pass on this one. Her lectures are specific to what is on the essay tests (3). Not the best with feedback at all unless you ask concise questions. Tough grader, hw can be annoying. Didn't enjoy the class at all
I loved Getty's mythology class and wouldn't have taken it with anyone else. There are reading reflections due before every class (but they're simple and she grades them largely for completion). Definitely speak up or volunteer to read in class. Overall, she's super passionate about this topic and the class sparked my interest in mythology.
By the third class, she had made a seating chart for us and yelled at us if we were not in our "assigned" seats. Along with that her teaching style is pretty much just standing with her arms behind her back and talking. Yeah, it is fun to watch movies in class but she makes the class unenjoyable. Take someone different if you can.
This is the most boring class I have ever taken, and Getty is extremely inconsiderate of her students. Just for reference, I got yelled at for using the bathroom one day. Tough grader and lots of reading for this specific class. Try to take a different teacher or other class!
All of her classes were just her reading off of the screen what we had already read for the hw. We also had a reflection post due every class, so be ready to read 20+ pages prior to every class. The tests and quizzes were also difficult, and she does not go easy on grading. I do not recommend taking this class if you have a heavy workload.
This professor is very traditional and anal on many things. There are lots of ready and assignments mainly papers. To get good papers you actually have to throughly do the assignments and readings to score well. Overall, if you get your work done and go the full length you will be fine. She is very straight forward but clear.
Her lectures are interesting and the quizzes are easy. However she grades writing very harshly. I worked very hard and manages to get a C in the class until our final. She does not answer emails.
I've taken her twice and she's been amazing both times. She's extremely flexible and understanding if you're sick or something prevents you from attending class. She's strict about her policies, but they're very easy policies to follow. Every assignment is stupidly straightforward. She even rounded me up to an A! I strongly recommend her.
Very easy quizzes but grades very harshly on all written assignments. Expect to read a lot/sit thru long lectures. If I was an English major or had less on my plate I would consider taking her again, but I would not recommend otherwise. She takes attendance/seating chart very seriously. Will mark you absent if you go to the restroom during class.
I was six months sober before this class. I'm taking 4000 level classes, and this was my hardest one. our midterm was *several* essays. I don't get how this was an elective. This should be a major-locked course
Only take this class if you really have an interest in film analysis and criticism. I found the written assignments very convoluted and needlessly complex, and she is a tough grader. If you don't have a high level of understanding of different film techniques you might struggle, but she isn't rude or mean or anything, she's very fair in that aspect
Professor Getty is known for her strict policies, but her class is straightforward if you keep up with the reading. Using unstuckstudy and the textbook can be helpful for test prep.
she can be a hit or miss sometimes. i had a really good experience with her so I liked her. on her syllabus she will come off as strict but once you start her class she's really not that bad. she just doesn't like you being on phones which isn't so bad. the beginning of the semester is a bit work heavy but doable. 1800w essay almost killed me tho.
I took Dr. Getty for Mythology, and thought she did an excellent job with the course. We covered a divers range of world mythology, and her lectures were always engaging. The workload is demanding, with significant reading and responses due every class period. Exams are open-note essays. Would take any other class she offers!
Mythology with Dr. Getty was shocking, fun, and engaging. Lots of reading and writing responses to reading, but clear-cut instructions. Dr. Getty was very organized and knowledgeable. If you stay on top of the reading and homework you'll do great. She has some strict class policies and takes attendance, but cares about the subject and her students.
There are a lot of assignments, reading, and movie-watching in this class. The actual essays weren't that bad, but the weekly assignments were so tedious. The professor herself is pretty sweet and definitely passionate, but this class was a little rough. It's not the worst though.
She is very nice, not hard to talk to. I kind of went into the class knowing generally what we would be talking about, but she also gives lots of resources for everything we talk about. She is very open to questions and loves to discuss in class. The readings (book and few short stories) were easy and interesting. The films we watched were older.
