Laura is a great instructor, she keeps the class interesting. You must attend class to get notes from the lecture, to try to separate the important stuff in the reading is to time demanding. The class has very interesting topics and the test are strait forward, if you attended class and have studied!
I took this online and even without the face to face time, Dr. Howard was very available and very willing to clarify any questions. Good class!
She's super nice and the class material is super easy
Took this class on line and it was great. The readings were very interesting and the test were straight forward. I would definitely recommend this course.
Took this online and as long as you stay on track and don't rush through the tests, it's for sure one of the easiest As out there. Great class.
She is very nice and easy to understand. Class is not always interesting but compared to other classes...much better. I would attend class..there are pop quizzes and extra credit offered once in awhile. One of the better classes I've taken so far
I really enjoyed this class; I took it online, and it was simple to keep up with the assignments and make the class what I wanted it to be, and so I got a lot out of it. As an intro to philosophy class, a lot of the material has been reiterated in further philosophy classes I've taken, and I was glad I had this one done first. Best of luck!
Laura was a great instructor to have. I did take this class online and I was a little unsure about it at first. It turned out to be one of my easiest classes. All the tests and quizzes are open book and open note. She provides powerpoints and short audios for better understanding of what we read in the textbook. I highly recommend taking her class!
This class was relatively easy. Deadlines for discussion posts were at very unusual times which made them hard to remember. You will have to study for the midterm and final, but they are really easy after just reviewing the study guide a couple times. As long as you stay on top of your deadlines this class will be easy.
Online Course. Super Easy if you keep up with it. Only one essay throughout the semester. The final is one 4 page essay that you have all semester to do. Readings are 100% necessary to pass, but they are really short and quizes are super easy! 3 tests that are 20 questions. Easy, easy A!!
easy general ed online class--must stay on top of readings and deadlines.... one 4 page paper at end of semester. Overall interesting course
She's a great professor who really knows her stuff and is willing to talk to you like a human being. The only problem is that her grading system is extremely flawed. Kids in the class that don't undertand the material did well because of the extra credit but I struggled to get an A without the extra credit and the HORRIBLE section leader grading.
I took this class online, and it was the easiest class I have ever taken. Assignments are easy, text is on point, and supplements provided by the teacher were very helpful.
By far one of my favorite PHIL professors at the UA. Everything is online & instructions are clear for each assignment. There are a total of 7 discussion posts & quizzes (lowest of each is dropped). There are 3 exams (25 ques), one 1-page paper, and one 4-page final. Super easy A!
Medical Ethics. I took it online. It was straightforward, but make use of your resources wisely during quizzes and exams. It is open notes since it's online. Each question is weighted kinda high, so miss two-three question and you drop your test grade to one letter grade down. Textbook is kinda expensive but needed. Buy somewhere cheaper.
This class is taight entirely online so it is at your own pace. If you keep up with the work, you can do well. But make sure you use the book and other resources during quizzes and tests because some of the questions can be ally specific. Overall a good class.
My biggest complaint is that her questions for quizzes and tests are very poorly written. You can know the material inside and out, but answer could always be between two or more options, depending on how you look at it. It's a joke.
I thought this class would be a drag. I hate philosophy, but this ended up being one of my favorite classes. Laura is hilarious! class didn't push any views on me at all and everyone was very respectful. I actually ended up learning A LOT! Very EASY and enjoyable class. I look at issues very differently now. Glad i took it:)
I took this class online for a gen-ed requirement... best decision of my life. You write one paper the semester, and then have one online quiz and discussion every week. I literally have gotten nothing less than a 97% with VERY minimal effort and also the topics ended up being pretty interesting too. TAKE THE CLASS PERSONAL MORALITY ONLINE
AWESOME CLASS! I would recommend it. Dont have to go to class. Essays are all extra credit, so no matter how bad they are it will only help your grade. The only grade is the four exams, but there is so much extra credit! I failed the first test and after the extra credit by the second test I had a 98! So, TAKE THIS CLASS! :)
AWESOME CLASS! It is all online and super easy. In less than one hour you are done for the week. The exams and quizzes are realistic. She does not offer any extra credit but you wont even need it! I would tell anyone to take this class!
This is the most organized online class I have taken. The material is completely reasonable and you can learn a lot. She allows you to drop your lowest test, 2 lowest discussion posts and 2 lowest quizzes. GREAT CLASS! With a little bit of effort, an A is in your hands.
This is an upper division online course. Dr. Howard wants you to succeed because she drops your lowest test, 2 lowest quizzes and 2 lowest discussions. However, don't let this fool you because this class does require a decent amount of work and the tests can be tricky. But you can easily get an A or B if you work hard enough in the class.
Thought it was an easy class, but WRONG. Quizzes are confusing and not clear. Exams are decent but can still be a pain since worth a lot if score poorly, so it will hurt your grade.
Extremely easy. All quizzes have easily findable answers in the book, all tests too. Grades easily on the essay, plus 2/3 of the essay grade comes from just doing the work, not the quality of it. Drops a test, two discussions (free points), and two quizzes. 10/10 would take again would recommend.
This class was extremely easy. Philosophy readings are somewhat hard to get through but she makes a powerpoint with audio for each section so it is easy to answer the quiz and test questions correctly. 2 quizzes dropped, 2 discussions dropped, and 1 exam dropped if you work hard in the beginning you will not have to do anything for the last month.
Laura is a chill teacher & class was easy, but only if you go to lecture. If you even miss one, the ease of this class goes down a lot & it becomes difficult. The readings can be very long, & hard to understand or, the exact opposite. Do as many readings as possible, because they are what the tests are based on. Also, never miss a discussion post!
This class is definitely not easy, but Laura is an absolutely fantastic professor. The quizzes and tests can be trickily worded, but if you message her and discuss the material you can sometimes be rewarded. Great class, great teacher. An A is possible, but you'll have to work for it.
She's a great teacher. Gets to the point and asks interesting questions that keep you thinking. For an older woman she's kinda cute too.
Easy class. Quizzes and discussions every week. 4 different exams. No final. Important essay. Grades kind of hard on the essay. Exam and quiz questions are not well worded and are very confusing but it is still a very easy class. Lots of things get dropped.
She is really nice and gives you plenty of opportunities to get a good grade. I took PHIL 111 and we didnt even have a text book.
She was wonderful. Four tests are given and are strictly based off of readings and quiz questions. Does no demand to much reading and is very clear on what she wants. Only on essay which was also easy enough.
Online class. Easiest upper-division class i've ever taken online or at the university. The quizzes kinda sucked cause there are only 5 questions and one or two is always ambiguous. But, the exams are CAKE and the essays are 3 paragraphs...... three paragraphs. Shortest papers i've written since I was 11. And Dr Howard is best teacher ever!!!!!!!!!
I thought this class was interesting, and the work load wasn't too much. I have taken many online classes before, and this was one of my favorites.
Dr. Howard was a really nice professor. She's funny too and made the class laugh a lot. The material was interesting, however, her test had a lot of material she didn't go over in class. She give review guides for her tests though so if you go over those you should be fine. Great teacher overall! Easy Workload!
This class changed! A friend took it and it was much easier than it is now. It does not matter if she is a good professor or not because TA do everything (grading papers and writing exams) if you want to pass with a good grade you need review the paper with your TA and study the book (study guide is not very helpful)
Easy A. As long as you do the readings and take notes, you'll do fine on the quizzes and tests. I would suggest taking it online, and unless you have a logical/analytical style of thinking, you might struggle with the application questions. Overall though, it's a lot of simply knowing the material.
I love Dr. Howard's online classes, I took Personal Morality last year and Medical Ethics has the same exact format. Not too much work, but challenging material. I highly recommend her online classes for general electives.
One of the best classes I've ever taken. Really interesting material--this was the first class I've *ever* taken in which I actually read all of the assigned readings. Her videos are great, and the quizzes are so easy. I would recommend this to anyone!
She made learning easy, and frequently clarified complicating topics. I highly recommend this class
This was a super easy class! She outlines every thing she wants in the essays, every single lecture is on D2l, she gives a thorough study guide, and the tests are easy! Put a little bit of effort in and it will be an easy A.
The tests are hard because a lot of the questions repeat themselves and have answers like all of the above or A&B. Considering it is a philosophy class that kind of blows. Class was hard for me, and there is only 7 graded assignments all year.
Took this class as a gen ed and its not too bad. Very few quizzes throughout the semester and she gives you 1 completely work free week before exams. Exams usually about 25 questions and if you read the material and take notes you should be able to pass. Also only 1 essay for the entire semester no finals or midterms. Great class not too stressful!
I took this class, and it was one of the hardest classes I ever taken. There is 1000 word essays due at a certain time. The TA grades them and some may be tough graders and others may be easy on you. It depends on their point of view. The exams are multiple choice and includes tricky questions which makes it harder. I do not recommend this class.
Professor Howard was great! Her assignments are NOT difficult AT ALL and there aren't many of them throughout the semester. Her teachings are interesting also; I actually liked what I was learning about. I got As on all exams which is NOT normal from me!
Easy enough class, not too many assignments or anything so it didn't take up a lot of time. If you read the lectures and listen to the audio, you should do just fine. She is really strict about not curving or giving extra credit, though.
This class was amazing, I highly recommend it! Though it was an online course, Professor Howard did an excellent job. This class requires a lot of in depth reading, but the assignments were interesting so I didn't mind. The class has a routine structure from day one, so it's easy to schedule time for reading, quizzes and discussions. Great course!
I took this class online and I would definitely take it again! Although I would say it was an easy A, assignments required you to read and understand the material. Each week consisted of a discussion post and a quiz. 4 exams and 1 600 word paper. Everything came straight out of the textbook!
One of the best classes Ive ever had. Professor Howard is clear, concise, direct, and always holds the attention of the class. Her preparation and high skill as an instructor is seen in her class and she is very friendly. Although I do not want to take ethics related courses again, I would definitely take a class she teaches again!
Amazing. I took this course online, but everything was very clear-cut and understandable. The material was incredibly interesting. There's a lot of reading, but it was so interesting that the chapter lengths didn't bother me at all. I would definitely take this class again, Professor Howard does a wonderful job. I highly recommend this course!
I took the online version of this class and I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it actually was. The work wasn't hard, it's just taking the time to read and truly understand the material can be difficult. If you put the time in to understand the info, you can get an A. But if you're looking for a no work online class, this isn't it.
I wouldn't write this review if I didn't feel passionately for the class- it is NOT an easy class. If you're looking for an easy Gen. Ed. to take, skip out of this one. You have to REALLY like philosophy in order to enjoy yourself and do a decent job on the tests. Avoid at all costs otherwise. Exams will kill your grade... big time.
Pages & pages of directions for everything (completely unnecessary). 3 long papers required which aren't graded until the following month (don't trust her when she says 'sound like yourself' in the papers--sound like her and get a good grade). Quiztest questions are ambiguous. Interesting subjects but she presents in a long-winded manner.
Lays out EXACTLY what she wants. Lectures are clear & good TAs this year. If you have any knowledge of ethics, Kant, etc, this will be easy as pie. If it's an option for a program req, go for it; there's 4 tests, a few written assignments (harsh late penalties). Took attendance via clicker a few times but stopped later. Text easy to find online ;)
Absolute trash, an easy subject graded hard and taught poorly for no reason. How can you grade someone on a subject that is entirely subjective? Medical Ethics is a waste of time, waste of money, you will not learn and I would NEVER take this again. I would call it a joke, but that would imply that there is humor involved. It's rubbish.
Howard makes things unnecessarily complicated. Her layout for giving information about the course is totally overboard; her course requirements are simple but the information is complexly scattered throughout the site within various documents. She assigns precis that have a definite subjective component, and grades come out that way.
Easy class if your good at taking tests 80% of the grade is the four tests that were all pretty easy. the other 20% were a bunch of mini projects that was very easy to get an A in. Overall easy A if you study for the tests
I took this as an online class, and everything was easy to understandfollow. Dr. Howard is an excellent professor who is extremely knowledgeable in this area. She takes a more applied approach to the theories, which really helps to understand the concepts. A good amount of work, but spaced out just enough to do well. Very interesting class.
I took the online version of 150B and absolutely loved it! As long as you did the reading, the exams were extremely easy and if you did all the discussion posts, it's such an easy A.
Dr. Howard is a perfect example of a professor who knows how to translate her extensive philosophical background into easily understood lessons that anybody can follow, regardless of the interest level. There are several papers that are quite lengthy, but she tells you exactly how to write everything. You won't regret taking her class.
easy A
She is very clear on her expectations. However, because she gives you all of the information ahead of time, don't expect any freebies or extra credit. Read every page of the syllabus. If you do all of the readings, 100% is on the exams is achievable. She follows through with all of her deadlines and gets back grades and feedback to you quickly.
I took the online version of this class thinking it was going to be easy but it wasn't. Essays are toughly graded and exams are kind of easier but sometimes way too difficult. Its not a lot of work, but the essays are because you need to put a lot of effort into it. I thought personal morality would be interesting but it was so boring.
Dr. Howard is awesome! Her directions and expectations are very clear, if you follow them you will do well. You have to put some work in and there's quite a bit of reading but there is a very reasonable amount of assignments for an entire semester. I would definitely recommend this class!
What more is there to say than what has already been said? Dr. Howard has clear grading criteria and an easy-to-follow semester schedule. There's also plenty of time given to complete all the assignments. I took her online Phil150b class last semester and enjoyed the format and content of her class, which is why I took another one of her courses.
Online: Easy A if you put in the work. Check class on Day 1, did not turn in Syllabus Practice Quiz and missed out on the free 10 points but class was easy enough to still get an A. Exams are mostly questions from the optional practice quizzes, assignments graded fairly... Do the reading and work and you'll do great. Easiest class on my schedule.
I thought the material was interesting, but being graded/tested was a different story. The readings were long and requires a lot of note taking. The essay assignments can be a bit difficult, something you can't rush. Also, the tests can be a bit tricky but shouldn't be too bad with practice quizzes.
I've taken two courses with Dr. Howard and there's a third (!) coming up this semester. I absolutely love her online courses, she goes overboard with the structuring for a good reason: there's little to zero room for misunderstanding re expectations. I disagree that there's a lot of reading, it's average at most. I learned plenty in 321. Good prof.
Best class I've taken at the UA. The class really made you think. I actually looked forward to class.
This class was very easy. There are 4 units and an exam for each unit, 1 final, and 2 essays, so not much work. Those were the only assignments that counted for points. Very easy. I didn't read the readings and am still getting an A. Got 100% on both essays even though I didn't read the readings or try very hard. 10/10 would recommend.
This was an easy A upper division elective credit. 4 online exams, 3 of which have all of the same questions from practice quizzes (she gives you the answers).3 essays that are very straightforward. 4 discussion posts. Very easy and also doable for an honors credit. Very interesting class and would highly recommend.
Good intro to Philosophy course. Just a few tests and two essays. Only warning is that it is very easy to procrastinate since you just have to meet the deadline for the unit. I'm getting a B but it's only because I didn't study quite enough for the tests. The readings have all of the answers for the tests so do them! Overall a great class though!
Essays were very interesting and easy to comprehend. It is up to you to make it interesting and it is all opinion based. I got all A's on my essays. Remember to do the practice quizzes because it is helpful for the exams. It was easy. Laura is very helpful and is in her office for confusing concepts.
Dr. Howard seems like a very kind and intelligent person from her video lectures. This class is an easy A. Tests, quizzes, discussions, essays are all easy, and she is a very kind grader. I didn't bother getting the textbook, because all the articles/info were online after a quick Google search. Info is similar to MCB 404 Bioethics with Pimentel.
Interesting material. Very nicely set up d2l page for convenience and clarity. Not a major time commitment, but valuable info learned.
Prof. Howard wants everyone to do well in this class. She gives optional quizzes that have the answers to all of the test questions. I stopped reading the book after the first unit. Essays are easy, you just need to write them more than a day in advance to do well because she expects well written and thought out papers. Overall really easy class.

Dr. Howard is very fair with her grading and makes weekly videos and audios to help you understand the material. Unlimited attempts on quizzes!!
Okay so a lot of these reviews seem to be either black or white. Although this class was easy, it wasn't the easiest upper division class I've taken online. I found the reading really interesting and helpful so I would recommend. Some exam questions are tricky, and essays have criteria that you need to follow. I'm an A student but it did take work
PHILI 110 I recommend this class only to those who loves philosophy There is no accumulative quiz; however, few short quizzes per unit like 6-7 questions and final exams from each unit approximately 30-40 questions (every unit has one or two chapters).
This course is very interesting but challenging. Dr. Howard is clear on grading, points possible and expectations. If you are passionate about medicine/philosophy or if you have an apt for philosophy you should do fine. If reading and writing essays about abstract concepts are not your strengths, you'll be better off in another class.
I took this class online during winter break and felt that it was very manageable. Professor Howard is very witty and kept the class interesting. it was extremely organized and easy to follow on d2l. I was never confused about what was due or when it was due. It is an easy A! (obviously as long as you do the work you're supposed to do)
She's flat out rude to you if you try and reach out about anything grade related. Takes more than enough time to get grades back to you, And frankly is very boring regarding her video lectures.
Dr. Laura Howard is amazing! She really made Philosophy interesting and was super caring and friendly. The assignments were not hard, but there was quite a bit of reading and some of the quizzes were confusing. Definitely take this course.
This class was honestly one of the easiest classes I have taken at the U of A! The material is really interesting and the course work is minimal. Each week you simply read a chapter, do an open note 5 question quiz and submit a 250 word discussion post. There is only one paper and is graded fairly easy and the tests are all open note as well!
I took this online course as a gen ed and it was average, the content was worth while and the work load was not too overwhelming. All her quizzes and 4 tests were based off the book- so get the text book. Plus you get to use it during tests. Only one major writing assignment which she gives about half the semester to prepare for and do.
Just a bunch of quizzes, discussions and exams that are done per section, but you get roughly 4 weeks to complete the work. If you mess up, 2 of your lowest discussion/quizzes are dropped. This course substitutes math requirement if allowed. One of the better instructors at U of A. If you need Philosophy, shes the instructor you need to take!
You have to get the book but it's super affordable. This is way easier than any math class and counts for a math credit. Low key you can find a lot of quiz answers online, but it can take a while sometimes. There was no math whatsoever involved in this corse. You can retake Unit Exams at the end of the year which is really nice.
this class is really easy. I got 100% on each writing assignment (accept for final paper) without trying too hard. only difficult part of this class is the tests. its open book but it can be hard to find all of the information within the time limit sometimes.
Enjoyed this class. Prof. Howard is absolutely available for help. Buy the book and take good notes. Tests are right from the assigned readings and the practice tests. No paper to write.
Quizzes are short and sometimes the questions are confusingly structured. The textbook and the resources that she posts online are necessary to pass the quizzes.
Dr. Howard is truly an exceptional professor that really cares about the well being of her students and is passionate about the material that she is teaching. The content that we discuss is very interesting and the exams and essays are fair. She was always happy to help and discuss content during office hours-- I would highly recommend her!
Great class, really soothing voice
I would def take her again. She truly cares about what she teaches. Quizzes are easy as well as the exams.. that's if you read. But the readings are very interesting! she's is fast at replying back if you have any questions. Overall, i would defintely take her again.
If your lucky enough to have Professor Howard, you will understand why people go out of their way to post excellent reviews. She is one of the few Professors that post videos, where she explains lessons and for me this was a big help. I was stuck a few times and she was always available, even for an office meeting. She answers her emails! Thanks!!
Professor Howard was a great teacher. She poster slides, audio, and readings to help you understand the material. This class was very manageable. There were some quizzes, some discussions, a paper, and 4 exams. I really enjoyed this class and would take it again if I could.
Dr. Howard is very approachable outside of the online class and extremely intelligent. She has lots of resources to understand the material including 8-14 slide powerpoints (super simple ones, not text heavy), voice recordings, and videos. There are required textbook readings (chapters and articles) that are easy but necessary for success on tests.
What can I say, this woman is amazing, seriously. I've taken 3 philosophy courses with her, 2 gen-eds and 321 online which was to satisfy my philosophy minor credits. She is passionate and dedicated to making sure her students taking her course really take value from it. There are 2 easy essays, if you miss one you get to turn in another one!
Pretty basic online class. She split the class into 4 sections and gave us 2 weeks for each which was not a lot of work and allowed you to get ahead. Homework comes from the book and the tests are open book just be sure to take good notes.
Need the textbook to pass the exams and writings. 5 exams, 1 dropped. 3 writings (1,000+ words), 1 dropped. Weekly discussions and quizzes. As long as you read and take notes on the slides (with audio), you should do good. I recommend you go to office hours to look over your writings; shes very helpful. No midterm or final.
Dr Howard is amazing. She assigns enough work so that you are required to actually study the material she assigns, but the readings are very manageable and her lectures are usually about 10 mins and super helpful. She is one of the kinder teachers I have and I found this course to be enjoyable. Definitely recommend PHIL150B for a 150 Gen-Ed.
Laura Howard is a great professor. She has 10-minute video introductions for each lesson and audio/powerpoint slides that goes over the reading material. There's a bit of reading to do, but I thought the subject matter was really interesting so I didn't mind. Five exams and three papers, one exam and one paper is optional. Discussion posts weekly.
Doesnt explain the material and expects you to read an entire book on your own. The essay and quiz questions are vague and dont correlate with the readings. She also doesnt round grades: an 89.9 is B. Her class isnt bad but its a waste of time and can mess your GPA up because of a single point.
I took this class online and she seemed super nice. Tons of HW/test/quizzes get dropped, which is great. even an optional test and essay. the class was out of 430 points. To get an A, you need 383/430 which is 89%. I was ONE POINT off at 382/430 at 88.8%. I got a B. I even emailed her asking if there was ANYTHING I could do but NOPE :)
Phil 110 is a logic course - essentially a mathematical reasoning course within the liberal arts curricula. Professor Howard was very direct about the assignments and her grading. Get 90 and you get an A; 89 its a B ect. No whining, no extra credit no 'my dog died' excuses. So study and keep up with her lectures and you will do fine.
Professor Howard is probably my favorite professor at U of A. I took her Medical Ethics class and learned so much, and I got to write about things I enjoy unwrapping! She welcomes creativity and opinions, and she gives great feedback. I thought I'd get a B, but I actually ended the class with an A+. Super easy class (especially for a UD class)
Dr. Howard is so sweet and hilarious! Medical Ethics is a super easy but informative class. Gives tons of extra credit opportunities to do well if an essay or exam didn't go so well. Loved her class!
PHIL150 (online) was a great class. The grading on the essays specifically was a little tough, but as long as you present your own original ideas and don't lean too heavily on ideas you learn about in class, then you should get a decent grade. You have to get the textbook to pass the quizzes and the quizzes do require some abstract thinking.
Dr. Howard clearly cares about her students' success. She is clear about her expectations, but also provides extra credit in case you're shy a few points. She is accessible and utilizes many different media to make sure that you understand the topics presented. A little tough on the essay grading, but it helped me sharpen my writing skills.
Dr. Howard is a very nice and accessible professor. Her content is not confusing nor useless, I found all topics interesting and she sends weekly emails reminding you of what is due. She provides voice lectures for weekly quizzes & are straight off the powerpoints she gives. Tests are a little challenging, gives you opportunities to boost grades.
Dr. Howard cares about her students and ensures that everyone is informed and understands the lectures. She provides audio slides if you don't understand the readings of the textbook. Tests/quizzes aren't too bad, they're open book, and she gives plenty of time to complete them. Definitely take this course
I failed this course last semester so I decided to take it online with a different professor and she explains the material very well and is quick when responding to emails.
This class was obnoxiously hard for a gen ed. The papers graded by the TA were super harsh. Exam questions are also really difficult considering the level of the course (and there's nothing on quizlet). I did better in my 300/400 level courses than I did in this one. Don't waste your time, find an easier gen ed unless you're really into ethics.
Really easy to pass, just do the work.
She has a good system and is clear about what is expected of you, but the class is ridiculously hard for a 1-credit online course. You are expected to read nearly an entire textbook on your own, and the quizzes/tests are awful. information contradicts itself, making several answers seem correct. worked crazy hard to get a mediocre grade
Dr. Howard is a great medical ethics teacher. Her online class is very straight forward and simple. I learned a lot from taking this class! Would recommend to anyone.
Dr. Howard's course is very well structured for an online class. You do need the book as it helps for the exams, but the workload is not hard if you keep on top of assignments. If you need a class for credits, this one is great as the content is very interesting and the workload is manageable (if you try that is). She was also very nice
I absolutely LOVE this class, I am not a PHIL major, but this class gave me a lot of perspective on morals, human behavior and so on. Everything is open book, there are two essays and discussion post. She's not a tough grader but will criticize your work for improvement. Although I got a B in the class, it is an easy course.
This was a really interesting class. I learned a lot, and the work load was very manageable. She was very caring and gave great feedback. I would definitely take a class by Prof Howard again.
Great online lecture videos and easy D2L quizzes. If you do bad on one test, she gives you the option to take another test on different content to replace that grade. The readings from the textbook were interesting and overall this was a great 7-week class.
Pretty easy class other than the essay. Great choice if you're a good writer, though. I feel like I didn't learn a lot because it is open notes for all exams and quizzes. The professor drops two quiz grades, one discussion grade, and one exam grade which is really nice. I would buy the textbook for assignment and essay help.
Super sweet lady, can tell she cares about her students! Assignments are easy and actually interesting material. Just do the work, there's not much, and you'll be fine.
I took this class online and I would NOT recommend it. The exams are insanely difficult and she words the questions so you can be familiar with the material and still not know which of the 4 answers it is. I got almost 100% on my discussions and quizzes but the Exams I never did better than a 60% which tanked my grade. Tough grader on papers too.
Lenient grading system, drops a lot of lowest scores. All you need is the textbook and powerpoint slides to pass the class. It is easy to score near 100% in almost every section of the grading system. Put it some effort some effort towards exams and the one essay for an easy A
This class was pretty easy. I've taken quite a few philosophy classes already, so the content was super simple and straightforward. She has video/voice lectures for each section that explain the content if you're struggling with anything. You're graded on homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. There is no final.
Ive taken Dr. Howard for both PA 321 and PHIL 150 and loved her for both! She is an easy grader and such a sweet lady. She really cares about her students and the classes and essays were honestly fun to write. Overall super interesting classes that I recommend to all my friends.
Took online, she was lowkey pretty funny in her announcements. We did do a lot of reading of the textbook, but she usually kept the sections fairly short. She is big on personal time management as she made all the assignments due on the same day, so if you take this class, make sure you have discipline.
Professor Howard was an awesome professor. She's very easy going and allows you to complete all of the homework/quizzes and exams on your own time. The textbook is required and is heavily relied upon in PHIL 110 but it's very easy to understand and actually very interesting. Dr. Howard was awesome and I would definitely take this class again.
The course schedule was light and was easy to adjust to, and Ms. Howard's lectures were pretty great. Grading criteria were simple and bad grades were dropped. The only qualm I had was that her tests were *too* short (sounds funny, I know) that is, if you had a test for 5 questions and you got one question wrong, bam you lost 20% of the grade.
Dr. Howard has this class set up in an amazing way. It is self paced and we only have 2 deadlines. The grading criteria is very clear and the material is very organized. It wasn't too much work to complete the class but I still felt like I learned a lot. We only have a few assignments and test so there is no useless busy work at all.
This class was by far my favorite out of all my first semester classes. Dr. H is a great professor whose work can be difficult to understand in the beginning but she does a great job explaining everything in her lectures. This class was not super difficult but it is important to read carefully. Overall she was a great Professor to have.
The class is really manageable and she is a sweet and understanding professor. The quizs and tests all correlate with the powerpoints and textbooks and it was nothing too hard.
While I never got the chance to meet her, Dr. Howard seems very genuine and kind. This class is graded by few things, so the tests counted for a lot. I was quite frustrated at getting an 80 on almost every test and found it extremely unfair that all of her tests were on Quizlet. Lame that everyone cheated while I worked my ass off to get a B.
Dr. Howard made this online class super interesting and informative. There are only two deadlines throughout the semester so you have to stay on top of your assignments. The quizzes can be challenging unless you read through all of the material and take thorough notes. Overall great class and would definitely recommend to other students.
This class was probably the easiest A in my life. There is a total of 180 possible points to earn and 50% of them are dropped at the end. The professor is very considerate regarding grading. There is only 2 deadlines for the course. As long as you do the required work (which takes literally couple of days) you will get an A.
She is unbelievably considerate! Her lectures are as interactive as it can get for being an online course. She will incorporate more audios and lecture videos of herself explaining a concept than having you go through the powerpoints yourself. You will do some readings to better understand the material but it's not mandatory.
The work is manageable. The only problem I had were the discussion posts because it had to be at least 300 words. I was already taking four other classes and one in particular was pretty demanding so having those discussion posts come up frequently was a bit difficult to manage but you get through it. Other than that, she is absolutely amazing.
I loved taking this course and really liked working with this professor. I never had to contact her with any questions I had because all assignments and expectations for this class were explained very well. It was really helpful for me that all of the assignments I had in this course were due every other week. Highly recommend this professor.
Really enjoyed the lectures in this course. The professor was very helpful and explained everything during this class very well. Would take another class with this professor.
Professor Howard was amazing and made it really easy to be successful. If you are looking for a good course with real-world applications, and one that can count as a math credit (I know the struggles, no judgment) I would recommend Phil110.
This class is not difficult and does not have a huge workload, yet the material is fascinating and it is not a chore to learn like other classes. It is broken up in to different units with readings and lectures. There are a couple quizzes every unit and a test. There is one essay. Putting in an hour of work a week is enough to succeed! Take it!
Could be considered an "easy" class she has 4 major units but, than that's it. There is a little quizzes, voice recorded lecture help and assignments for each unit. Just give yourself time to actually read the textbook and you'll pass. I took the 7 week course online. Super nice & easy to get an email response from.
I took this course online as an accelerated 5 week and it was completely doable. It helped that the class was laid out to be essentially self paced so I had several weeks to do everything. Professor Howard is great and really cares about the subject, and the material is interesting. There is one big essay that is worth about half your grade.
I really enjoyed this class! Howard uses a 6/6/3 grading rubric (highest 6 test scores, highest 6 discussion scores, and highest 3 exam scores). There were 12 quizzes, 11 discussions, and 5 exams, so it is pretty easy to get a good grade considering the 6/6/3 grading rubric. There are a lot of readings, but the topics are very interesting!
Highly recommend taking this course if you still need to meet your ethics class requirement. Class is self-paced with only two major deadlines throughout the semester. Extremely insightful content and friendly teacher to boot!
This class was one of the easiest I've taken. There is a fair amount of work but it is very easy and the grades are very lenient (ex: 2 lowest quiz grades dropped). I found this class to be genuinely interesting. My only problem was that the essay feedback we got was aimed towards to whole class rather than individualized so a rewrite was difficult
Easy and interesting class to fulfill a gen-ed requirement. Professor Howard cares about the success of her students and makes the class very flexible. You are only required to take 6 quizzes, 6 discussions, and 3 exams, as only the 6 highest quizzes/exams and 3 discussions are included in your grade. There's a bit of reading, but it is very doable
Really easy class! Self-paced and a lot of the points are dropped at the end, her 6,6,3 scheme makes this class an easy gen-ed to take while taking other courses. She is really caring and really just wants her students to pass! There's a lot of readings but the material is interesting.
Amazing class! It was so easy to learn from and I enjoyed learning from this class
One of the best professors I ever had. Really cares that you learn the material.
She really cares about the subject and wants you to learn. Excellent professor. Can't go wrong.
Great Gen-ed Class that I would recommend to anyone
Took this as a 7 week summer online course, it was great, highly recommend for a gen ed! Very self-paced with only 3 deadlines for the entire course. Decent amount of reading but you can skim it. Quizzes, discussions, and exams are easy. One paper but not hard. Easy to get help/ask questions over email. HIGHLY recommend!
This was my second time taking one of Professor Howard's classes. This class is extremely easy. 3 discussion posts (250 words each), 3 exams, and 1 essay (1000 words). The topics are actually very interesting and fun to learn about. I recommend getting the textbook but you could still probably get an A without it. 7-week course but I finished in 4.
I took this class in winter, a 16wk class condensed into 3.5 weeks. Dr Howard is one of THE BEST professors at UofA. She is passionate, she is fair & she gives clear expectations & directions. Plus, she replies to email super quick. This class was super interesting& she made me want to take more phil classes (something I had previously sworn off).
I took this class during the winter term thus, it was condensed in 3 weeks. There is lots of reading since it is an accelerated class but it is all relevant to the quizzes, exams, discussion posts, and essay. She clearly states the objectives needed to succeed. Would definitely take her again!
I loved this class~ what an amazing human who cares about her profession and the information she shares with the world. Not a cake walk class, but a fair and effective course. Wonderful experience!
Dr. Howard is an amazing professor who makes this class genuinely interesting. The workload is manageable, with some essay feedback that could be more personalized. Unstuck study was a great supplementary study tool alongside the textbook. Would recommend this class!
Clear guidelines, engaging discussion posts and videos, all laid out well! Essay was a little difficult however she is a fair grader and provides excellent feedback even when she has limited time. Would definitely like a class with her again!
