Good:Organized lecturer, very helpful, tests are very fair-multiple choice and one essay question, assigns homework but gives you the answers. Bad:Lectures are boring, hw can be a pain, newspaper assignment is useless. I definitely recommend her. Cute!!
dont take her
Great teacher. Makes you want to learn. Tests are pretty easy. Article assignments are a pain. Gives answers to homework questions. I recommend taking her class.
All you have to do is take good notes (which she gives you!)and you don't even need the book for tests, only for hw. I took both of her econ classes, mention "Friends" or chocolate, she loves both.
She talks in a mono tone that puts you to sleep. She knowns what she is talking about. But she is very very boring. Her test are very hard!
She is helpful, and will bump up all the classes grades if they are below a certain point for a test.
Very boring teacher. She is very monotonous and always turns the lights off. Half the class falls asleep.
Very nice teacher, does know what she is teaching very helpful if need help jus ask her.
she is a great teacher and is prepared every day with a slide show..i would reccomend her
Mrs. Maghoney is such a sweet and nice person! She is very good at explaining the concepts and making it easier to understand. The lectures were cool - she had slides and went at just the right pace so I could take very clear & good notes for the test. I would most definitely take her again, and recommend her to anyone taking an economics class.
A lot of reading if u take them online, seriously, alot! good info but don't understimate her quizzes, they are hard.
She is very monotonous as people above have stated. And in order to pass her tests, you need to really understand the material. The way she comes up with the answers is usually two are right but one is more right than the other. So if you take this class, make sure you don't take any other hard classes.
do not take her classes online!!!
This teacher is Very Hard, but also she is very good. Hard as in her tests are hard the class average on an exame were about 60 - 65 % for each test. grades exams by the next class. Her tests are from the book so if you read the book your good to go. She has assigned seating. Your hwk is 4 points EC toward your exams which she goes over in class
Her class is extremely hard. Her tests are extremely, the class average was usually a D. If you like getting good grades I recommend you dont take her.
Tough class. She's willing to help, but even that may not be enough. Work hard for a decent grade. The tests are killers. Do the reading and the homework, which help out your test scores, but I wouldn't bother with the article assignments, which are only worth a lousy 4 points (combined). She's a good teacher though, nice, helpful, and clear.
I took this class online, which i thought would make things more complicated for me to understand, because it is after all econ! But it wasn't as difficult as i thought. The tests were the toughest part of the whole course! But as long as you read the book, activly participate and turn in your assignments on time you should be able to maintain a B.
Really easy to understand. Econ 2 is a little harder, but still, if you ask questions, she will answer. Took both online with her and passed. You do need to read the book, but she has a section for each week called "bridge over troubled waters" that specifies areas in the book that students in the past had trouble with. Highly recommended!
Class covers a lot of applied economics, but little theory. time would have been better spent elsewhere, as knowing how to calculate GDP is mostly meaningless. probably good foundation for econ majors though.
Took micro-econ online, and it was super easy. She gets many test questions directly from practice tests available online (website listed in the textbook). Lots of reading and a fair amount of homework. This was the 1st college class I had taken in 10 years & had no problems getting an A+. It was much easier than I expected.
Mrs. Maghoney is a very professional consistent teacher, keeps u well informed of dates, deadlines etc. Class is hard but Econ is a hard subject anyway. She provided email support and gave me all points on homework. Study guide strongly recommended for test. I did well but half the class failed, U defiantly have to know the material to pass, good t
Very good teacher, probably one of the best that I ever had. It's not difficult to get an "A" in the class-just read the book and take really good notes. She knows what she is talking about, she is nice and above all she's hot, you really can't go wrong with this teacher:)
I took Econ 1 & 2 at the same time, Econ 1 is much easier. It's a hard subject, but she helps as much as possbile. Will help you with anything she can. Homework is easy, do it! Tests are hard, but passable. Do everything she asks and you can get an A! I dont recommend taking this class online though, it's much MUCH harder.
Mrs. Maghoney is as nice as they come, but to bad economics is not nice. Be prepared to study a lot in class. This is not like High School Economics. Passing this class is not that hard if you really study.
She is an OK teacher, but the way she writes tests and grades homework is infuriating. The slightest problem on your home work leads directly to half credit or less. A big complaint is that she worked in the corporate world for 2 years but speaks of it like she knows everything! All her stories star with, "when I worked at Accenture...."
Mrs. Maghoney is a really nice person. She gives you a lot of oportunities to try to get a passing grade. She is very helpful and understanding when circumstances come up. her class is HARD HARD HARD though, but if you dedicate enough time for the homework and reading before class you can pass. She throws test questions out that people bombed.
Took her for a few weeks. Homework and tests were difficult to pass. I dropped the class before I could finish it. If you're trying to take an economics class, I'd recommend Prescott. He's easier and you would understand economics a lot better.
Work load was too much for too little points.
I have taken both Maghoney and Prescott. Moghoney is very clear when presenting the material, she makes sure you get it. Homework is easy. If you study you can pass the tests and the article assignment was a little difficult but fun. Good teacher over all. GREAT CLASS! Use the study guide, really, really, helps!
Very fair teacher. Test are derived directly from lectures. Reading the textbook and using the study guide definitely pay off: while the average test scores were generally low, people who spent time studying and doing the work fared very well. Dont leave any projects to last minute. Ask questions or talk to her during her office hours for help.
Econ is not an easy subject but she is very helpful. Make sure to take the notes and study study study for the Tests.... There is no homework but the test make up all your grade and they are not easy! She is a very nice teacher and very helpful if you need it!
I took her for Econ 1 and 2 and it was 2 of the easiest classes i have ever taken. The subject matter can be complicated but she prepares you for the tests very well. Get started early on the current events project and you will ace her classes.
Great teacher! She's VERY clear and organized in her notes, you need to attend class in order to really understand material. Studying outside of class is mandatory but not extreme, mostly before tests. As long as you really go over material prior to tests, you can get a decent grade. Current event project and homework is easy & she answers emails.
A complete stuck up instructor, do not take.
She is nice but tests aren't too easy. She really tries to help you out and is friendly if you ask her for help. Homework is extra credit for tests!
i put in a lot of effort, yet got a C. do NOT hesitate to ask about GDP; that stuff can destroy your grade, like it did mine!
Took this class online. Tests count for at least 65% of final grade. A lot of homework for little value. As far as economics goes, taking the class online is like teaching yourself. She is strict on office hours so questions you may have on weekends will go unanswered until Tuesday.
Summer online classes with Prof. Maghoney are basically like teaching yourself. Her "office" hours are very limited and you can go more than half a week without her ever responding. She's not very active in the discussions and is strict with the number of sentences necessary to receive full credit in them. I would never take her class again.
This is my second economics class with her. I did get an A in Econ 001 but I busted my butt! Tests are difficult but do-able. Homework and study-guide I feel is necessary to get an A as long as a lot of dedicated time and effort. If you want to really understand economics I would take her! There are a lot of graphs but use them to your advantage!
She's actually a really good professor. Her notes pretty much do the job and the book works more as a reference if you decide you do not like her approach. Her office ours are tight but she's ALWAYS there when she says she'll be. I recommend her, I took her class on campus. Don't get me wrong though, you'll WORK. Her tests are no joke.
SHe is a great professor
Took her class online. Answered questions quickly. She made the tests challenging but overall pretty fair. Would have liked to have taken this class in person as I heard that she was good at teaching the material.
She's a really good professor. You don't really use the book a whole lot but you might need it for the homework. Overall, a good class
Her mono tone puts you to sleep, BUT she explains things well and is there for any questions you may have. As long as you take good notes on her power points and ask questions when you don't get something, as well as do your homework and really understand it, you should pass.
This is the hardest class I've ever taken in my life, for a decent grade you have to put in so much time to understand every subject. She is a good prof and does explain very well. And you have to go to class because she takes attendance every class meeting.
I took this class online and the test are hard. Professor was helpful and homework was easy. But the test were HARD. Spring Break was helpful because I literally read all of the previous chapters to understand the material. I ended the class with a C. She grades fair and uses a point system to get your grade. I will take her again though.
The professor was great. She answered all my questions and was willing to help. I took this class online and it was really hard. I was gratful for spring break which i used the time to study the previous chapters. Each test only gets harder. She grades on a point system which helped alot. Even though it was hard I am taking her for Econ 2.
If you are taking summer classes, DO NOT TAKE HER. She requires way too much for too little time. Econ 001 I got an A easily, however the Econ 002 class is just a harder class and there isn't enough time to complete the assignments while understanding the material. She also takes forever to respond to questions, so you just end up teaching yourself
I took this class online and i've taken econ 1 with the same professor also. To me, econ 2 was easier thn econ 1. econ 2 i got a B econ 1 i got a C. Maybe its because I got used to her method. She is a good professor willing to help and her online class is very organize. You do have to try in her class. It is not a piece of cake.
the tests are on 2-3 chapters at a time and theres alot of information. she knows whats she's talking about but u can not take her classes lightly at all. grades are based on test mostly... i wouldnt recommend taking her class at all.
Took ECON 1 & 2 ONLINE Summer/Fall 2010. Very organized course BUT the quizzes were rather difficult. I'm an A student and Econ 1 & 2 were the ONLY courses so far I got a B in. Use other sources than just the book to get you through the class and quizzes.
she sucks. take Prescott he's the way better teacher in every way. i took her class didnt pass it. now im in his and doing way better he explains it till u get it. she'll jus move on.
Very hard. Doesn't go over things. Only uses PowerPoint slides.
Very helpful, you need to make sure you dedicate time reading the text and asking questions, exams are a little tough but if you study a little bit and utilize office hours you will do fine, only reason I got a B was because I did poorly on the first exam of the semester, I would recommend her, she changed my major.
Mrs. Maghoney is a horrible teacher. She isn't very clear when she explains things and she makes the tests too hard. The highest score on any of the 4 test that we took was a 90% and the average is about 86% on student test scores. Don't take her! She never excepts late work and missing 1 assignment will drop your grade heavily
Professor Maghoney is a great professor! Her exams are difficult, but also easily passable if your pay attention and ask questions about the concepts that you are having trouble understanding. There is only one paper in her ECON 002 class, which is a research essay that is worth about 8% of your final grade. Very positive experience overall.
She was a great professor. Very helpful, clear, responds quickly to email and was flexible with her hours to give me some extra help being that I work full-time and am an online student. I would definitely recommend her class. If I needed another Econ class, I'd pick her.
She is really strict on being and turning things on time. She locked doors after final started. She didnt accept people's late work even after 2mins after deadline which cost them 8% of their grade. We're all adults though and we should be on time. She's tough but a good lecturer. I enjoyed Econ and managed to get an A.
One of the best professors I have ever had. She goes over the material in class, so just show up and take notes. Tests are not worded any differently than lecture. She is always happy go over material that someone is struggling with. Tests are challenging, but not hard. Thorough, nice, helpful, funny! Take her!!!
See was a really great teacher very clear and helpful. All of the tests were straight from the notes and an easy A if you studied your notes. Would definitely recommend her for any Econ courses.
Great teacher, delivers information with hardly any personal input on the subject. This is truly an Economics class and NOT a political pulpit. On required writing will allow you to submit early to her for her advice and rewrite.
Mrs. Maghoney is an excellent teacher. The subject may not be the easiest, but she certainly sets you up for success. The syllabus is followed almost exactly. She explains things clearly, but you will need to study. Use the online study tools, do the homework, show up to class and study a little and you should be fine.
Prof Mahoney explains the material GREAT. She teaches from slides, bk, & the brd. Do the hw use the study guide & u pas easily.
I don't know why everyone goes on about how hard she is. Read the textbook, do the online portion of the class, and you're guaranteed a good grade, at least a B, easily an A. Her lectures are great, and her graphs are very clear and easy to understand. The whole class definitely made economics a lot more interesting to me.
Hella Hard. She rants about chocolate. If you can understand all the graphs and charts, awesome, but I just couldn't understand it.
I took Econ 1 and Econ 2 with her. My favorite thing about her classes: ALL THE POWERPOINTS ARE ONLINE! If you have terrible attendance like me, you can study at home. She is great at coming up with examples to explain difficult concepts. I am not an economics fan but she made the material interesting. Great teacher.
She is great I am sad I will not have the chance to take another one of her classes. Her class structure and test are very very consistent. Her power points follow along with the book and she directs you to all of the important info for the tests. I suggest the study guide as I started to slip in her class and it helped me pull through to earn an A
WOW Mrs. Maghoney is such an amazing professor. She really got me to be way more interested in Economics than I already was! I am sad I won't take another course with her! She changed my major!!! Maghoney really cares bout her students and she gives you everything you need to know for the tests, all you have to do is be interested, and try!
Professor Maghoney is a very hard teacher. The homework assignments are fairly easy with an acception of the question she asks and you have to answer. It is confusing as to what she would like the correct answer to be. And she doesn't give partial credit so if you got most of the answer correct she will give you no points. and tests are hard!!!
Firstly, if you are teaching an ONLINE class, don't only be available by email "monday through wednesday". Secondly, this is WAY too much work for an online class. Tests are HARD and not worth screwing up your gpa. DON'T RECOMMEND!!
The class itself is dry. Maybe for other people Econ is exciting, but not me. She does her best to be helpful and will spend an eternity clarifying something if you don't get it, which can get especially boring if you're one of those people who get everything the first time around. Do your online homework, understand it, and you're golden.
She will give you ZERO credit on a discussion if you've even a sentence too short! Doesn't matter if you have substance to say. Just rant on and on and repeat yourself and you'll get full points. Has power points and lectures posted but they both don't reflect what's on the weekly test! Worst online course I've ever taken.
TERRIBLE. will give you a ZERO in the discussion if you are a sentence too short. Doesn't matter if you have substance in your post. Best bet if to type a ling winded thing about NOTHING and somehow get full points.
THE WORST TEACHER IVE HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! LITERALLY!! I do not recommend her but it kind of sucks that she's the only one teaching econ. Her tests are beyond hard!!! She needs to understand that not everyone is majoring in econ!! Also, her tests are so much different than what we do in class.
She grades grammar and punctuation harder than my english teachers, someone should tell her she is teaching econ. So far i have taken 1 test and it was pretty easy with about 10 hours of study time. Shes easier than the people here say and so far I have an A, If you put in the work you can get a good grade but she definitely makes you work for it.
Lectures are unclear and she switched gears before solidifying points. She asked, "does anyone have any questions about any of that?"; but rushes through questions. Refuses to write big enough on the board for everyone to see. Flat personality, dry subject, condescending attitude, and didn't seem care about students who were struggling with Econ.
This is a 3 unit class and I feel like the questions given on tests are harder than it should be. Get ready to read a lot on your own.
Online makes everything easier, I was able to work at my own pace although I did end up teaching myself. In general the concepts are not too hard and test questions are generic if you know what I mean. Weekly homework, but again nothing too demanding. The book was $160, and you WILL need the lab code. Overall easy class for solitary learners.
Be ready to WORK! Her lectures are very vague and the homework and quizzes you do online are very in depth and her tests are hard!!
First, for a 3 unit class the workload is unrealistic. Second, powers thru lectures too fast. Next, the class is a perfect example of Professors relying on McGraw-Hill to generate exams rather than making the exams that are tailored to what is actually taught in class. Office visit was a waste of time. Buyer beware... Monotone--no passion.
Feedback, my biggest complaint it feed back. You see your grade the next class, however, you don't see the test, so you have no clue what you missed. She likes to play word games on tests rephrasing things, when econ is tough just because its all relationships, some simple math, and lots of theory that most economists don't even agree on.
This class is not an easy class especially if it's your first time taking Econ. Her lectures are pretty clear but she expects you to work hard in order to get a good grade.
It's a tough class. Especially online. Homework is a test. The tests are longer tests. The homework has a written assignment that she scrutinizes. If it's not to her liking, it's wrong. No matter how much of it was right. Her online hours are limited and she might be hard to get a hold of. If you take her classes, be sure you invest a lot of time
Why is she teaching? She's more worried about your grammer than economics. First off, she doesn't make sense on her tests. They were very hard to understand especially with the way she words them so she should be the last one to be a grammer nazi. Second, do not take her online class. It's a lot of work and she's barely responds to emails.
Isn't very clear about the expectations of discussion boards. She would say she wanted responses about XYZ, but then grade you on your inclusion of ABC.
Maghoney is great at what she does. Her lectures are clear and informative and she often ties in stories or videos to cement in what you've learned. I found that her tests are more difficult than I expected them to be, but study efficiently (Connect, the online course material, is awesome) and ask her for help during office hours to succeed.
The only people I've found to have a problem with her classes were the students who took her class online. I took econ1 with her in person and she was wonderful! Very clear and engaging, interesting lectures, answered all questions straightforwardly and kindly. Make sure you finish the homework ahead of time so you know what to ask her before test!
She responded to my emails quickly, I enjoyed her lectures, learned a lot. The homework (not Connect) was sometimes difficult and pretty much a mini test, but if you knew what you were doing for that then you're golden for the actual test. The test was pretty much the same q's with different numbers. We had 4 exams, 30 multiple choice q's & 1 essay
Maghoney was a very awesome professor! She made me consider Economics as my major! I thought I couldn't love Economics more till I recently transferred to a 4 year University and have been taking such interesting classes in Economics!
Her class isn't too bad as long as you take notes, pay attention and ask questions. People complain about her tests as being worded tricky and while true it isn't impossible to pass her class with an A as long as you study for these tests and do the learn smart and homework. If you just need Econ as a GE however take her online class it's easier.
The online class is not engaging, and it's difficult to understand the structure. Assignments are easy, yet it is not clear what she assigns. Reading online interactive textbook is annoying ( like advert bombard ) and does not equal a proper lecture. Basically, you're on your own for learning the material. Will pass, but learn nothing.
I thought her grading was more than fair. She tells you exactly what she is looking for in her syllabus, so it shouldn't come as a surprise if you do not get full credit. If you do the work, you will do fine. I am not very interested in the subject, but I enjoyed the class. She gives you multiple ways to learn the information too.
I took Econ 1 Online. I really enjoyed taking this online class. It was self-paced and easy. THE TESTS WERE EASY TOO. The homework essay questions were a little hard. You get your assignments done through connect which is very nice. .Take her online class.
No willingness to help. Because, I'm pretty sure we're the people who are supporting your job. I learned way more in the book than I did from the instructor. Really poor effort to help students. I hope you take this criticism and prove to the next flock of students that I'm wrong. I'm very upset with the quality of your concern, help, etc.
Lectures are seemingly straightforward and easy to understand, but once you get to the test you wonder where you had been for that section's lectures. The multiple choice questions on the test are worded in a very confusing way. I get that it's meant to "test" your knowledge of the subject, but multiple choice just doesn't work for some people.
I've taken her for both Econ 1&2 and worked my butt off only to get C's both times. On hw I received all As but tests I bombed no matter how much studying was involved. Thought I understood the material but tests are very tricky and unclear.
Professor Maghoney knows her stuff. She uses her past experiences from when she was in school and when she worked professionally before teaching. I get the feeling she really wants us to learn the material, but that doesnt make it any easier. Difficult subject, lots of online homework (she assigns alot so it'll stick), and she doesnt go easy on u.
I took the online class. Class not too hard but lots of discussions which was annoying. If you do the work then it should be easy to pass. Not recommended if you really want to learn economics. No makeup work so a missed deadline F. Prof is very responsive to emails. Overall, not too difficult. Grade will be reflective of your effort.
During these 8 weeks, she was unavailable to answer questions for almost a week. She only answers emails during office hours in the middle of the week which didn't give me enough time to read all the material to ask any questions. 1/5 of test questions are reading graphs and there is little/no help on powerpoint or lectures to teach this skill.
Wow, so much reading it's really 4 or 5 units of material, not the 3 semester hrs as advertised. Her online "lectures" are miles long of add'l text you have to read, in addition to the ppt, the 30+ page you'll read in the textbook, and then re-read in the "LearnSmart" exercises every week. Hmwrk & test questions are completely alien to the textbook
I'm normally an A student and this class was so ridiculous. So much homework and nothing that was on the test was covered in class. Long, boring, convoluted powerpoints accompany blah lectures. Do not recommend.
Professor Maghoney knows the content she teaches and has experience in the area. Her lectures are interesting, and she has always been available for contact outside of class. Her tests are worded awkwardly sometimes but it is similar to the homework. She assigned one paper and offered to review as many rough drafts as you wanted. Overall very good.
The homework usually doesn't have anything to do with the tests. The lectures are not very engaging and become lengthy at times. However, she is very nice and knows her econ material very well.
Professor Maghoney's teaching technique includes a powerpoint with a simple outline of the chapter and drawn graphs. Reading the chapter on your own time is a must if you want to have a clear understanding of the material. Lectures are straightforward. Study hard if you want to do well on the tests.
This class is not a walk in the park. Lectures seem easy, until you do the online homework, where you'll find out you got to read the chapters in order to fully understand. The tests are worth 70 percent of the grade, so make sure you study for them as the way she words questions can be tricky. There's one research paper due as well (6% of grade).
Unfortunately had to take this class as I transferred from another community college. Professor is not engaging and talks about the same concepts and examples over and over again and doesn't offer additional examples. I would not recommend this class or her teaching style. As an economics major she offers no inspiration or motivation to the subject
She's by far the worst professor I have had in my entire college career. If you do one thing slightly different then what she wants, you will fail. If you answer a question slightly similar to what she wants then you fail because you're "cheating". She looks for the worst in her students. Do NOT take her! I am never taking a class by her ever again
Tests don't have anything to do with the homework and her lectures are dreary and boring. Takes her forever to answer any emails. I learned a lot off of learnsmart but practically nothing from lectures. She uses very poor examples and doesn't explain graphs well. Just take her class online so that everything is based off of learnsmart.
Book 30 pages of reading each week. Graphs key to passing but barely explained. Learnsmart Rereading same 30 pages each week, but with quiz questions! Ugh. Homework A sometimes brutal multi-question test each week w/ short essay. Lecture Super long essay that'll make you go cross-eyed. Graphs not explained any better. Take Econ elsewhere.
Honestly, ECON with Maghoney was pretty easy. She's a really nice lady who wants you to succeed and outlines everything that you need to do. If you do it, you can get a good grade. Plain and simple.
Economics is a tough subject for me. But Professor Maghoney was extremely helpful! She gave great feedback, answered emails quickly, and was very helpful during her office hours. This class is tough, but if you put in the effort that a college class should require, you'll do fine. The tests are tough and make sure you read the material!!!
A lot of note taking. Very hard to study for me. Many graphs, tables and equations. Very hard to study material for tests. No group work, very little if not any class participation. Didn't really explain it well enough to understand.
Write down everything she says and basically memorize all your notes and you can prob get c's on your test. Very difficult class. Five 40 multiple choice tests and an essay on each. The essay q can help you or destroy your grade. Do all the work and try to get at least c's on your tests and you should pass.
If there was any other professor available at Solano for Economics, I would take them. But there's not, so we're all stuck with this one. Tough grader, answers need to be perfect. Accused me of cheating when I didn't, and when I proved I didn't she still wouldn't give me my points back. Ended up with a B when I could have had an A.
TBH worst teacher I have ever had to encounter. She speaks to everyone so condescendingly and doesn't think there is a world outside of her econ class. I recommend taking this class elsewhere since we are stuck with only one econ teacher. She is rude, inconsiderate and her tests make no sense.
I was doing badly in the beginning of the semester and was worried that I might have to drop the class. I started going to her office hours and got feedback on my article responses which helped a lot! The study guides are crucial to doing well on the test. Go to her office hours and show her you want to do better, it really helps!
She isnt very hands on for the online class, she expects 100% proper grammar or else you lose points. No essays but lots of quizzes. She doesnt really help out a whole lot. She just gives you the book and then youre on your own.
FOR ANY OF YOU WHO NEEDS TO TAKE ECON - TAKE HER ONLINE. DO NOT TAKE HER IN PERSON OTHERWISE YOU'LL HAVE A HARD TIME PASSING THE CLASS. Her online class assigns a lot of homework every week just like any other online class but all the answers are online and however her unit assignment may be difficult.
Print out the powerpoints and take notes and pay attention in class. This is not an easy A. But you don't have any other choices. She makes clear what is going to be on the test while she is giving the lecture so never miss class.
I had taken Econ 1 and 2. Professor Maghoney isn't horrible I just believe she is a tough professor to please. She assigned an article before every test and if you are not perfect on it she will dock significant amount of points. Her tests are difficult and the homework is tedious and only worth a small amount of points. Do not take her for granted
This professor is not only the worst professor I've ever encountered she also must believe her classes are the only ones students at Solano take. She offers extremely limited help and feedback, no late work at ALL and speaks to you like you are dumb or like you should already know the course material. I advise to steer clear from this department.
Hard grader, not helpful when asked questions.
This teacher is by far the WORST teacher EVER! Highly recommend taking this class at a different school if possible. She expects you to be perfect and if youre not she will take points off. Very hard to please her, she doesnt have empathy if your sick. STAY CLEAR FROM HER CLASS! Im not joking!!!
Love Maghoney. I'm not sure if it was just me, but her Econ classes were easy and I learned a lot. Her online lectures are really helpful if you take the online class. She's nice and presents the information well.
Currently in the middle of the semester and I have to write a review because shes one of the worst professors Ive ever had. She acts like her class is the only class that matters. Your effort doesnt matter because if your answers are not precisely correct, its a zero. Its her way or no way & I take her online. Dont do it. Find another prof.
DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS ECON IS YOUR MAJOR! She expects so much outside of her class and does not take into consideration that econ is not the only class we are all taking. Her lectures, homework and assignments are one thing but the test is another. Please save yourself the trouble and take Econ at another college with a different professor. RUN!
Prof Maghoney was awesome. The key to success is literally copying the slides/lecture into your notes and then read through them because its EXACTLY whats on the test. She explains the material very well. After studying my notes I never scored below a 96 on a test. Make sure to follow directions on HW and article assignments. The class is a breeze.
This was one of the best classes I took at Solano. I thought this would be a tough class because previous semesters students said they had to put a lot of time even outside class but that wasnt the true for me. She has 5 exams including the final and homeworks and assignments are due the night before the exam. Lectures are very helpful.
Takes notes, study the material, ask questions, and practice, practice, practice. Yes it's a lot of work but if you just coast by and never study, YOU WILL NOT PASS! She's willing and able to help if you don't understand something but you absolutely need to put in the effort.
She provides you with everything you need for the tests. There are 5 tests (including the final) each have 40 multiple choice questions with one essay question (you only need a paragraph). Class is very structured as long as you show up, pay attention, and take notes you will pass. I got an A by just putting in basic effort & doing the assignments.
Take at a diff college! Only econ teacher offered, insanely hard grader on spelling/grammar. Assignments are worth little points so hard to make up a bad grade. She is not open to missing/late work due to technical issues (took it online) and work heavy with so little wiggle room in her grading.
She acted nice at first, but that changed. Tests are 50 question in 50 minutes, which was stressful. If the class doesn't do well, her so-called support seems to be that we need to try harder. Study guides aren't given. She said they ruin the point of tests. If the test isn't finished on time, and her accusation is cheating. Don't take this class.
This was my second time taking this class. The counselor at Solano even recommended that I take this class at a different school. Professor teaches old school as she is older. The one thing is she is not a great teacher. I would highly recommend taking at a different school. I passed this semester with a B, but she is a really tough grader. RUN...
Took Econ 1 and 2 and received a low A in both. PLEASE TAKE HER ONLINE. I've heard so many things about her class being different in person and its probably true. Her online class is so much better and there's no doubt you won't pass. The only thing that may hurt your grade is the Assignment essay questions (be careful do not plagiarize) and tests.
She's the only economics professor at SCC. Her syllabus for Econ 002 is 19 pages and you're tested on it. I've asked a few times for clarification on topics or ideas but feedback usually sums to "read the syllabus" "read the material" and makes me dread having to engage her.
If you're a SCC student and are considering taking economics online, I'd recommend doing so from another institution. Your counselor or academic advisor can help you find equivalent courses. I'd never ever take Mrs Maghoney again and if I had to do it over, I would definitely take the course elsewhere.
8 week accelerated class already. She gave us one week's notice that she's taking five days off for the 4th of July and we have to finish that week's work early if we want to ask her anything because she won't be extending her deadline for it. Two chapters in 3 days is what she's expecting us to do. GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL FOR ECON. Not kidding.
Professor Maghoney's course was definitely difficult. She was not a bad instructor, but she just makes it a little extra difficult to pass an already rigorous course.
Do not take this class with this teacher. She is a nightmare. She's the only teacher that Solano has for Econ so if you have no choice just take her online. She's delirious and seems to make up her own grading criteria when it suits her. She uses question banks for homework and test though, so I guess the joke is on her with those 'high standards'.
Professor Maghoney was a very sweet professor and I am unsure why she got bad reviews. Her lectures are very detailed. When she tells you to stop by her office or email her for help, please do it! Emailing her about my articles helped TREMENDOUSLY. Study your notes everyday and go over the learnsmart questions because that helped as well.
If you can take this class at another school I would. Heavy load of tests the class itself was very rigorous. There is no room for mistakes since there is no way to make up points in this class. Tests are timed and nothing is given to prepare you for the tests. Tough grader on the homework. Would highly recommend taking elsewhere.
This professor is amazing and explains the material very well. She is accessible for help outside of class and will also edit any written assignments before the due date. It is extremely important to NEVER miss one of her classes. Pay attention to lectures. She tells you what is important for the exam. You will get an A if you take initiative.
SUPER TOUGH GRADER!! She's a sweet lady until the grading pen comes out then she's super picky about things. I am a straight A student and I got a B in this class which says a lot. Her lectures are understandable and give a false sense of security then her tests are basically in Greek. The majority of the grade is tests. I took the class Fall 2019.
Great teacher. It was a bit difficult at first, after the second test I was able to adjust and adapt. You need to study for the test! PAY ATTENTION TO HER LECTURE VIDEOS! She was nice when I needed clarification as well!
She makes you take 10 question quizzes in 5 minutes. And has a quiz on her syllabus that is 18 pages long. Shes self absorbed, and one of the worst professors at Solano. She needs to be fired. I recommend taking this course at another college. She is absolutely terrible.
EXTREMELY tough grader, definitely would not recommend taking this course at solano being that shes the only Econ teacher there. Also your grade is pretty much based off the exams which really sucks. Also I took the course online and she gives you 50 minutes to complete a whole exam.. Cant tell you how many times I had to rush.
I am convinced that anyone giving this professor over a 1 was paid to do so or is a pathological liar. Detestable isn't even the correct term to describe her. You have 50 minutes for a 50 question exam, if you ask her to increase the time she'll say "nobody else has complained" although I know she's lying because my sister & I both emailed her.
This professor has an unfair grading system and does not have your best interest in mind. Do not take her if you do not need to. 3/10
She is the worst grader I have had in my entire schooling career. DO NOT take her class if you want to get a good grade. She only gives 50 minutes for exams with 50 questions and should not be an instructor.
I found this class to be pretty challenging and I put much more time into it than I typically need to. Doing the reading, watching her video lectures, doing the practice worksheets, and reading her written lectures and all assignments were essential. She was very pleasant and responsive to questions. I found it interesting. Tests are difficult!
This lady is just awful. Its hard enough learning online but all she does is regurgitate info from the text and rather than create her own assignments, she just uses what the book provides. Her tests make very little sense and she only gives you 50 minutes to answer 50 questions. She is a bad teacher. She doesn't teach. just reads the textbook.
No extra credit, rare help, advise not taking her class
A great teacher who enjoys what she does. Ask questions and she will try her best to help any way she can. As long as you attend lectures or watch the videos it is pretty easy. The book is easy to follow along with and the online homework allows you to go back to the book to find the answer very quickly.
I would never take this Professor again, she grades so hard and if you have any type of typos expect to get marked down. Were online during COVID and Ive never had a professor be this difficult on students. Also dont expect her to fix anything shell tell you to go to tech support before she lifts a finger. Do not recommend this awful Professor.
Professor Maghoney is a wonderful economics teacher. Straight to the point, yet very nice and smiley if you have a question. If you struggle with a topic she's more than willing to help you. I've met up with her in person and online as well, and both times she has been very nice and PATIENT. She is a very knowledgeable lady. I enjoy her lectures
She's ok. She's nice enough and does help if you ask for it but she can be severe when grading. Typos kill your grade in posts and tests make or break your grade. I had 90%+ in all categories except tests and got a C. I've read others say take econ at another college if you can and I'd agree. Read the material throughly. No extra credit
I was frustrated at first, but after I got into the groove of the class I started to do better and aced all my assignments and tests. Make sure to watch the videos in her "My Two Cents" module if taking online. The essay questions on the assignments are SUPER important so make sure they are quality. Lots of homework, but you will learn Econ.
She is a nice lazy professor. Economics is not the easiest subject so with that said, the professor should put more effort with explaining the material. Meaning, she should tape her own videos and teach the lectures and not rely on the textbook to teach her students. She is not worth taking. Do yourself a favor. High expectations, lazy teacher.
Professor Maghoney is one of the best instructors that I have had in college. She is organized, I knew exactly what I needed to do in the class and she always responded quickly to my questions. It is clear that she cares about her students. I learned a lot about economics and now I am considering being an econ major. I highly recommend her.
Professor Maghoney is a professor that is very organized about her online classes. Every week she would post an announcement on what's due, and even then you don't have to read it since it's always consistent. Yes, her tests are very difficult and she makes you work for your grade, but she always gives enough information about each unit.
This class is fairly difficult due to the content of what you're learning. I struggled a lot with the math formula portions of this course. Exams were 58% of our grade and were timed, 60 minutes for 50 multiple-choice questions. Despite all of this, this professor really cares for her students. She responds quickly and is very understanding.
Professor Maghoney was alright. There isn't too much to say about her, she is the only ECON professor at Solano, I do like that the assignments are easily accessible and she provides tools for the units which is helpful. One thing I don't like is how she's strict with the discussion posts, if you make a grammar error, she'll take points off.
Laura Maghoney is great at explaining graphs and concepts needed in class. She offers videos to see another perspective on putting the pieces of graphs together. The tests are really heavy into knowing and understanding the concepts. More zoom hours would be nice to accommodate different schedules. Exams are tough. Study hard.
Had taken this professor for both ECON 1 and ECON 2. In her class, a good portion is graded on discussion posts and she has very strict criteria on how she wants the discussion posts to be done. Another thing to mention is there is not enough time on tests luckily it happens every few weeks but there are too many questions to get done in 60 minutes
Horrible professor. I'm convinced anybody who left a positive review was paid to do so. 50 question quizzes in 50 minutes on economics is unreasonable. She doesn't care for her students and I am convinced she's here to make her students fail.
There are 6 exams -roughly 58% of your grade is based on test grades. The test are hard because you do not have time to really read through the question and think about them. Even if you get all the homework 100% - you will still need at least 86% on each exam. The discussion posts are graded harshly. Not enough zoom time to ask questions in class
This class was extremely hard! Even if you study for this class, it's never enough to know what she will put on the test. Not enough time to look over and answer the questions because, you would have 50 question to answer in 60 minutes.
In person, she is actually a really nice person. But don't let her kindness fool you. She is extremely strict. There is no opportunity for extra credit. I personally never caught up with the work. She was not helpful as an Educator. If you do not plan on spending 2 or 3 hours per day on this course then this is not the class for you
this professor has it down. her online modules are so clear and easy to follow. same 3 assignments each week. you can knock it out in one sitting. that's what I usually did. don't worry about writing the perfect answer to the discussions. she's not going to dock you if you don't hit every point, just if you don't follow the rubric. great teacher!
Try this class if you have a lot of time to dedicate to it. Econ is very interesting & demanding. It's better in 2 sessions & if you have an instructor who can actually teach. No doubt that the instructor is smart but if you can't break the subject down to where it can be understood & where you can see the connections - You don't learn.
really good
Expect 7 - 13 assignments weekly, & no feedback after exams. She does not allow students to view their exam answers neither does she conduct general class reviews on the most challenging chapters on the exam. Everyone in her class has to just blindly carry on into the next chapter without thoroughly understanding the previous one. Good luck! haha
Professor Maghoney's ECON001 class is challenging, but she provides clear guidance and cares about student success. The exams are tough, but using tools like unstuck study helps with study prep. Overall, a rewarding course if you're willing to put in the work.
Prof Maghoney is caring, communicative, organized, and actually knows her stuff. The course is set up for success, just insert "doing your part". Extra credit IS a thing. Be sure to read her lecture notes and watch the step-by-step videos. Also, if you are juggling a lot, timelines for work completion are very generous (Tues-Sun).
Nice lady, nice class. She really likes chocolate and gave us some for Halloween. She's so cute. Her lectures are engaging and clear to understand. She doesn't give too much homework, good deadlines too. She provides study materials, worksheets etc. Overall, great professor who helped me realise I want to major/at least double-major in econ.
Took her Econ class in Fall of 2023. Good professor, would def take her class again.
Very straightforward. Smartbook heavy, workload is manageable. Work can be very difficult and professor will just acknowledge that students have a hard time with certain material and she expects lower grades instead of trying to help us understand concepts more. Solid teacher, she replies quick.
I decided to drop this class. Very test heavy & the tests did not seem to reflect the material in textbook. I was spending so much time on this class that my other classes were put on the back burner, hence my decision to drop. Professor was nice, but I will not waste my time when the writing was on the wall. Felt more like masters program.
one thing about the class, really interesting, you will learn things about the economy in a much deeper way. another thing about the class, exams (bulk of grades) are not reflective of assignments at all. most of the other problems people list she's fixed, this is not one of them. pay attention to the lectures and the history sections will be there
I took this professor for Econ 01 and 02. She's a very nice lady and teaches well in my opinion. Its important to show up to lectures but if you ask questions and keep up with the material, it should be a positive experience.
show up to class!!!! often goes over stuff/draws graphs in class that just aren't addressed online or in the slides at all. take good notes & cram your notesheet before each exam and you'll do fine, and make sure to start the homework early
