Incredibly kind and accommodating. Both midterms and final were a breeze, based largely on the weekly assignments (which were all open book). I hate math, didn't take 30 level in high school and have no background in Physics, got a 99 on the final and finished with an A. I highly recommend taking this course with her. Participation through Tophat.
Was a very caring professor that really wants you to do well. Don't be scared because it's a physics course. She makes her lectures so enjoyable and relatable. You can tell she's very passionate teaching about this course. However, I think she should provide samples of reflective writing assignments bc many students were confused, including myself
Laura is a sweetheart, shes super caring towards her students and is willing to help you in any way. The midterm exams and finals were all online and the tests were open book so they were realatively preety easy. She honestly awesome Id take any class with her again. Participation marks are super easy to get and the homework is super easy.
Dr Mazzino is a great, caring, accomodating professor. She always made sure the class was as low-anxiety as possible by being explicit about testable material. Cares much more about students understanding the material than mindlessly memorizing. Very passionate about what she does, and overall very pleasant to be taught by.
Dr. Mazzino was a great teacher for this course. As someone who actively avoided physics courses but needed to take some, she made it more bearable. She was very caring and her only goal was to make use that every student was at their full potential. If I ever need to take another physics course I would actively hunt for a class taught by Mazzino.
Laura is an amazing prof! She's super caring and understanding and her lectures are super clear. For exams she posts slides on the test material. Easy A. I got a B bc I didn't go to class lol.
I had her as my prof and honestly she was the best prof I ever had. She had amazing lectures and was great at what she taught because of how passionate she was. If I could I would love to take another class of hers.
As an arts student, physics isn't something I'm great at. However! Dr Mazzino was fantastic and helped me actually understand the concepts. I can't thank her enough for this, the lectures were very engaging & the support was excellent! Course layout was easy to understand and equally split up, at no point did I feel lost or over stressed. Thank you
No clue why the course code is PHYS when it's chiefly concerned with the sociology of energy consumption, actual math appears to be auxiliary. Prof is nice enough, I have no clue if she's the one who chose this content or if it was imposed on her by the department. Tho I felt sort of misled, 100% take this course if math isn't your strong suit.
It's an easy class to take and you will most likely get an A or above, but the professor was just so annoying and extra in all regards. She gives you about 7 different grading components: exam, group discussion, top hat, individual quizzes, group reflective writings, class etiquette, scavenger hunts etc.
EXTREMELY EXTREMELY kind prof. She is very reasonable and straightforward. If you show up to lecture she gives hints as to what she would be looking for in a midterm. The assignments (tho a lot) is VERY EASY. She also has such a positively radiating energy that makes the class very comforting and welcoming. She def one of the few UofC gems.
Dr. Mazzino is such a caring and understanding prof. The course content is not math heavy, and deals more with overarching concepts and processes related to energy. I would definitely recommend this course if math isn't your strong-suit.
DR. MAZZINO IS A ANGEL SENT FROM ABOVE. If you have an interest in physics, then take this. She's funny and cares for her students a lot!
Dr. Mazzino is kind of sweet occasionally.... but I learned nothing in her class. We were always 3 weeks behind in lecture because of how she wastes time in class. I learned everything for this course from organic chemistry tutor on youtube because her teaching methods just don't stick with most people honestly
My favourite prof at the uofc hands down! She places an emphasis on her students mental health and is extremely accommodating and accessible outside of class. She makes this course intriguing, the midterms were fair, and she color codes her slides to differentiate between which material is general facts and which material can show up on a midterm.
She was very sweet. Class was great. Many components which was confusing deadline-wise, but Dr. Mazzino was very accommodating and stopped some components halfway through the class. Looked like there was quite a few changes in the middle of the class in the way D2L assignments showed your answers so that confused me at first. But 100% recommend.
She is really sweet and really cares about her students and tries to make the lectures as engaging as possible. All of the physics classes were like 3 weeks behind for the last half of the semester which made it hard to learn as everything felt like it was getting taught rushed yet we never caught up at all somehow? which made it hard at the end.
Her notes are all over the place, and her lectures are very disorganized. She is very sweet but she is not a good teacher. She also has mutiple tophat questions per lecture but she has trouble assigning them, which wastes a lot of class time.
Treats students like children
Mazzino acts like a babysitter and looks down on her students, often comparing us to her "kindergarten students". She gets mad over the quietest noises in class and threatened to not post notes if we keep "disrespecting her".
Disorganized slides. Gatekeeps notes we paid for and refuses to post them because people were being "disrespectful". Threatens to ask students to leave the class if we are "noisy" despite this being my quietest class. Blames low lecture average on students when she does not give notes. Runs out of time because she cannot set up TopHat.
Really nice prof and a very easy class. Other students need to grow up.
Very nice prof, truly cares about her students. To her phys 223 class--show her some appreciation & stop being entitled, rude, and loud. She was great when I (and many others) had her so maybe your guys' attitudes are the problem.
Mazzino is unfair and inconsiderate towards the students in her lecture. She refuses to post lecture notes or give solutions to top-hat questions and gives no time to copy the notes down. I would not recommend taking taking one of her courses!
Dr.Mazzino was ok at the start, but as the semester went on things became worse as almost every class she would complain about a high noise level even though it was never that bad.
Dr. Mazzino has been extremely disrespectful to all student, belittling them and treating them like children. Never feels like a positive or encouraging learning environment. Difficult to learn and very condescending.
Awful and rude
Very patient, kind and understanding professor. Very accessible if you ask for more office hours. Unfortunately, when students become disrespectful her punishments impact the whole class. She has an accent but it's not difficult to understand if you are patient and listen carefully. She's a good prof if you treat her with basic human respect.
Honestly one of the best profs I've had, very passionate about her lectures, she wants her students to learn and tries to use different analogies and examples to help us understand. Very much likes when people participate in class.
Honestly the best prof I've had so far. Very passionate about what she teaches, and she genuinely wants her students to learn. She uses different analogies and examples to help us learn, very helpful lectures. I've learned more in this class than any other physics class combined. She likes when people participate in class.
She is rude and self-absorbed. She acts like everyone is beneath her and punishes the entire class due to the actions of some students. Despite complaining about students during class, she blames them for wasting her time. She threatened to kick students out of the class if they make a single noise. Would never take a class with her again.
I have never had a worse prof in all my years of school. She offers little to no help in her lectures and get annoyed at students asking questions. Treats her class like it's a prison where nobody can breathe without it being a problem. Belittled her students and acted like everyone owed her something. Didn't learn anything from her
She's nice and caring! Obviously knows what she's talking about, just an issue with communicating it sometimes. Honestly if you just put in the effort to talk with her about things you have questions about she'll explain it sweetly
She's a very knowledgable person, but she is so rude to students it makes you dread coming to class. She's had outbursts with students which are terrifying and they're over small noises or requests like turning the lights off to see the screen better. She does not respect students based on how she speaks to and about them.
Dr Mazzino is the absolute best! I recommend that you go to her office hours as she takes the time to explain concepts to you. I have always struggled with physics but she has helped me to understand everything. Also for the bad reviews, Mazzino was asking students to be quiet, they didnt listen and she got frustrated. She is a good prof!
Dr. Mazzino is incredibly disrespectful to students, and often blames things fully within her control on students. She punishes the entire class for the actions of a few students, and constantly tells you to just "look it up" when students don't know or understand something. She's very rude and genuinely makes me scared of going to class.
Laura Mazzino is an amazing prof. She really cares for her students and is willing to help them in office hours. I found her explanations really good although physics was not my strong subject. She makes physics easy to understand. I would take any class she is teaching.
Laura is incredibly disrespectful to her students and not at all helpful during feedback. The course just have tests and exams but we have so much unnecessary stuff in the name of tophat, attendance, discussion posts for a science course btw all worth 20/25. Would not recommend taking any course with her, it just isn't worth your time.
love her. recommend.
The class itself was pretty easy to get a good mark in, but if you don't like group work, this isn't the class for you. 90% of the class is group work and you must go to all classes because she does attendance every time. She's not that accommodating and gaslights you if you're going through something personal and need accommodations.
Had her for both 371 and 223. She is definitely more easygoing in an "option" course setting like 371 compared to a more content-heavy course like 223. She is arguably good at teaching, and I didn't mind the lectures (minus the dramatics in 223). Overall, she is good but not as outstanding as it appears coming from the easy-graded 371 course.
She is a very kind professor, really welcoming with my questions and is quite patient. But make sure not to trigger her peeves in class(talking too loud to the point people would complain) otherwise the whole class may get penalized in someways. Other than that she is a good professor.
Overall solid professor. Her lectures are good, i reccommend doing readings since otherwise knowing some of the context in class is difficult. stay quiet in class because atleast in the lecture hall i was in, the volume of her mic was low, so she got real angry when people spoke too loudly. Overall tho, she's solid and a good teacher
Super easy A+ for those with a science background. Dr. Mazzino made it very easy to excel in this class. She was a great prof who was very understanding, and even gave bonus marks in the course
Dr. Mazzino's teaching is disastrously inadequate, bordering on educational malpractice. Ignored emails, disdain for student queries, bafflingly undermines UofC academic policies. Her approach catastrophically stifles learning and intellectual growth, rendering her utterly unfit for her educational role. 1st time reporting a prof to the dean.
Pretty good. easy course. bit strict but thats fine. I would take again, the course and prof.
Mazzino's academic conduct is profoundly lacking. Her persistent non-responsiveness to emails, irritation at student inquiries, and unexplained month-long absence grievously disrupt learning. Her refusal to clarify exam queries and deviation from UofC guidelines, coupled with a tendency to blame students, underscore her unsuitability as an educator
Dr. Mazzino was all around not a good professor. The class was easy enough, but the teaching lacked structure. The biggest issue was Dr. Mazzinos actions towards students. Students were punished for addressing concerns or speaking with her, and as a result, lost 5% of their final grade. Would not recommend this prof but would recommend PHYS 371.
IP Midterms: high 80s class avg, D2L final: 93 avg. Other 25% and 2% bonus are easy 100s. Dr Mazzino was amazing and super funny. Sometimes a bit weird with some students (taking away 5% of final grade for course etiquette just bc they emailed her certain questions). Content can be boring at times but very good class and Mazzino was a blessing!
IP Midterms avg high 80s. D2L final avg 93. Make good cheat sheets. Amazing course with an amazing professor. Content was dry at times but such a good class. The only weird thing Dr Mazzino did was take away 5% of some students final grade for asking her obvious questions. All the 1-star ratings are unwarranted. This class is a gem and an easy A!
Is passionate, but this has no positive impact unfortunately as she is simply unapproachable, even for serious inquiries. She gets super condescending if you were to send her an email, but would not take the time to respond to any questions in, before or after class.
Dr. Mazzino is the worst professor I've ever had. Although she is passionate about the course, she does not add much to the lectures. Her lectures are very disorganized and she usually spends more time complaining about students than actually teaching. She's also completely unapproachable for enquiry and is very condescending towards her students.
I had Mazzino for phys 223. The material is a bit of a jump from phys 221 so be prepared. She is nice and is arguably good at teaching, but there just isn't enough time to get through everything thoroughly. Super approachable after lectures/office hours but do not trigger her pet peeves (speaking in class, unnecessary emails etc.)
Mazzino is very passionate about physics and knows her content. However, she will certainly call you out in front of everyone if you talk or whisper, and might ask you to repeat what she said. She can be curt and unapproachable in tutorials if you need to ask a question, and tends to treat students like they are high schoolers rather than adults.
Generally, I enjoy Dr. Mazzino's lectures. I think she taught the content well. While she does assign a lot of homework it does make grasping the material easier, at least in my opinion. My only gripe is the expectance that all students have access to slides. If you take notes on pen and paper, you will have a rough time in lecture.
Unapproachable, doesn't want you to email her - frustrating when seeking guidance outside of class. NO WATER is allowed during exams, depriving students of this BASIC HUMAN RIGHT undermines their ability to perform at their best and contradicts the principles of fostering an optimal learning environment. Expect frequent class speaking.
never wore my seatbelt because i didnt wanna go to class
She is just very unorganized. I can tell she is passionate about what she teaches but for a university professor, she must learn how to better organize her grading techniques and how to properly use D2L and gradescope.
Laura Mazzino could be a great prof, and she is very genuine in how she teaches. Unfortunately she does need to work on the enviorment she creates in a class. When no one is willing to speak up except 3 students, you should not point out if someones reading from wikipedia. She is also very strict and does treat you like children at times.
Her grading is extremely forgiving as long as you attend all lectures. She allows cheat sheets to exams and tells you which slide you should study for the exams. Although it is true that she should work on organization of the course, it is extremely easy to get an A on this course. Definitely recommended if you're fine with going to all lectures.
She is a cutie. My favourite part is when she sang in class.
Dr. Mazzino is not a kind person, however she gets the job done. She teaches physics well, and I understood all the concepts after she taught them. She is quite strict about behaviour in class, so don't be noisy or sleep in lecture otherwise she'll call you out.
Really good at explaining things, but not a very kind person
Absolutely love Mazzino. I think she might be an acquired taste or she isn't for everyone as some of my friends did not like her as much as I did. I thought she was hilarious in lecture and genuinely cares for her students, hoping they do well in her class. She makes physics fun (which I never thought I'd say) and the exams are extremely fair.
She's not a boring lecturer, she def went through material pretty quickly. the content covered in class was WAY harder than anything we were tested on. there were weekly assignments and reading quizzes online, as well as worksheets to be submitted. it was easy however just make sure you remember to do them cause she won't remind you in class
Quite a fun professor who is clearly passionate about what she does. She is helpful one on one. Occasionally rants about students misbehaving in lectures (even when, in my opinion, they weren't), but in a way it helps maintain structure. Overall good.
Such a rude prof. would call students out in class all the time. quizzes were so easy tho. The class as a whole is light she is just awful and so damn dramatic. If she wasn't on tenure she would be chased by broadway directors. I swear she prays on downfalls.
She is extremely condescending towards students, She constantly contradicts herself, She is extremely unorganized to the point that she doesn't even know what's on her assignments, and she expects that students to teach themselves how to code in a class that does not have a coding pre-req, nor coding any where on the syllabus
DO NOT LET HER TEACH PHYSICS AGAIN BRO PLEEEASSEEE. its fine if its not for physics majors but for a KEY physics class for physics majors shes horrible. There is 0 resources. We have coding assignments but 0 coding pre-req for this class, she wont give us anything to practice with except a textbook with NO SOLUTIONS.
She's unable to meet students and refuses any email communication. She also refuses to give any partial marks on tears (despite claiming to) or do anything to assist the students. Any passion for physics will leave your body after you are taught by her.
She's prime miami heat lebron when it comes to not knowing how to teach physics. She just uses a textbook for everything, no help on anything or teaching anything at all. Go into this class knowing ur going to be teaching yourself all the concepts anyway.
Mazzino is a prof that teaches directly out of the textbook, ignoring any prerequisite knowledge for whatever we learn.(ex/ As a second year course, she ignores explanations of Calculus 3) She assumes students have more time than they do and expects us to learn completely from the text, using Lectures as assists. The Exams are Unfair (47%avg).
frustrating.
messy lecture slides, feels like she reviewed the material last night and teaches it to you, most of the time lectures you on life instead of actual physics.
I would put m
More effort should be put into getting her removed from ever teaching again than actually doing anything in this class because all effort put into this class is meaningless. If you have any hope of avoiding her as a professor, do it.
incredibly messy and disorganized course, there has been a mistake in the due date of every single outline/lab/assignment paper so far. has unfair expectations of students, test-heavy but no test prep materials/resources available (expects you to study from external textbooks, mind you. midterm class avg 40s). unapproachable, has a no email policy.
NO. NO. RUN FROM THIS PROF. SAVE YOURSELF. NO.
Half the lecture is flaunting how "inclusive" she is, and the other half is not explaining relevant physics concepts. Not at all accommodating, no part marks, no deferrals so good luck if you have any sort of emergency. Ask her about how you can improve your marks, she'll tell you that "your marks don't define you" for half an hour.
this is the university nightmare PLEASE HEED THE OTHER REVIEWS DONT TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN HELP IT
If you want to fail, she's the perfect prof!! She is caring but that caring nature is offset by the fact that her marking strategy is meant to fail you. She refuses any partial marks and refuses to accomadate students. Anything that goes wrong is apparently more of a reflection on the students rather than her. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Do not take a course with her. There are no curves, borderline evil assignment guidelines, and horrible horrible lectures. She spends so much lecture time talking about completely unrelated topics, is incredibly condescending to people. She has no idea what she is doing, and is completely out of touch with students.
Mazzino is the worst professor I've ever expirienced. She openly claims to care a lot about students but when it comes to showing that care, her actions show her to be rude and unprofessional. She is condescending when students ask for help, she doesn't put any effort into course content, and will flip out if even mildly criticised.
Classical mechanics is supposed to be hard, but this professor manages to make it 10x worse. She offers little instructional support and does extra work outside scope of the course. Discourages student from talking ab their doubts by the way she treats them, showing no compassion, I say this from personal experience. It's her way or the highway.
4th year student and I have never been around a more apathetic individual in my life. Very rude, forgets to upload crucial information/lecture slides on a regular basis, doesn't respond to a single discussion session, doesn't know what she is talking about during lectures, forgetful. AVOID THIS PERSON AT ALL COSTS SO HELP YOU GOD.
Awful professor, easy class that she somehow has made into a terrible experience. Extremely rude and unprofessional, and she threatens academic misconduct every 5 minutes for the most minute of things. Her slides and her teaching ability is lacking, and if I didn't already have a science background, I would be struggling... AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!!
Avoid at all costs
This prof threatens academic misconduct for speaking to fellow students. Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs. No more online finals.
Treats students like we are in the 5th grade. Unwilling to help answer questions in midterms, and tells students to come to class if they want the answer.
First week of class said the final would be online, changed the weighting and made it in person after the drop deadline. Yelled at us during our second midterm and made it based on things she only said in lecture and not in the slides, and called out students that do not show up to the lecture. PHYS 371 is no longer an easy A. AVOOOOOID
Dr. Mazzino is a great prof. dont let the other reviews scare u away from taking a class with her. she is really approachable and actually cares about her students.I dont even know how people are complaining about having her in PHYS 371 that class is for literal toddlers if ur struggling in that class u should consider dropping out fr.
341 is a hard class that requires effort. Introduces coding problems so you don't struggle in the future, not so she can make your life harder. Average for 341 midterms has consistently been around 38% so it's actually higher now that she's teaching it (~47%). Doesn't expect you to use external textbooks, just recommends it for your own benefit.
Please, run away.
talks in a condescending way towards students and loves to scares us, i know that she wants to support us but how about a different approach? telling us to change majors or telling us that physics isn't for us just means that you don't want your students to be interested in physics rather, want them to swap out.
……Run…….
While the course itself is really easy and a solid GPA booster, Mazzino makes the class hard to tolerate; often wastes lecture time talking about irrelevant things, threatens academic misconduct for trivial things (ie. taking pics of slides that are posted on D2L anyway & wearing a jacket to an exam in the winter), & generally rude to students.
terrible at teaching avoid at all cost
I think she should teach physics because most of us here are just trying to get through the class material for classes. I am not here to study when office hours are, what times I have to wake up or know about other things in life because I paid a lot for this class and it's 50 minutes each. I just want to learn
Absurd grading scheme and will give you a zero for a question even if it is mostly correct. If it isn't 100% correct, she will fail you which is tricky given that her tests are only three written questions. She is difficult to work with. She even made a comment about how a TA gave someone a zero for a mistake that was only meant to deduct 2 points.
Really tough grader. If you study super hard but if you make a small mistake, -33% of your mark. How? Not only that, grading is so harsh that you have to strive for perfection in order to get full marks. I had a negative in my answer for one of the test marks instead of a positive and I got -10 points out of 30 for it. The goal is to learn, no? 😂
Some ways mazzino can improve is communicate the grading criteria. It was ambiguous so it's unfair how the harsh the term examinations are marked. As for a 50 minute class, just teach physics only. Preferably not other things please. if you want your students to come to class then make your lectures more worth it rather than self study.
The worst class I have ever had. Every week someone has a new horror story about her acting cruel towards students. Her tests are worth a lot for a small amount of problems in a small amount of time. Avoid if at all possible.
Tests and grading are designed to make you fail. One simple mistake could cost you a third of your test grade. Avoid.
Listen to the other reviews, do not take her classes
Unaccommodating to students. There are no deferred exams so if a life disaster hits, you're gonna have to take a famously impossible final that counts for 50% of your grade.
There's a significant chance that one of the positive reviews for this class was written by mazzino.
Although this class isn't conceptually difficult, Dr.Mazzini manages to make the concepts 100 times more difficult. She is extremely disorganized and seems to be just as confused as her students. Half of the information in her slides that are deemed testable are completely erroneous, making it impossible to understand what is going on.
These recent reviews are very suspect. Some honest feedback: easy exams; repeatable quizzes for an easy 25% of your grade; short, easy-to-understand lectures. However, she's not great at explaining concepts that students don't easily understand.
These reviews should be a wake-up call about the importance of empathy in leadership. As a professor, you are a leader so patience, as well as constructive feedback are the most valued. However, I felt that a lot of the times class morale has gone down and can be fixed and improved for next time. Do not scare your students. Foster a positive area.
Shes the kind of prof to give you hours full of lectures on how you shouldn't take stress over small things and then proceed to fail you on a mandatory course cause she didn't like the way you dotted your i's.
The teaching style is all theory with no in class practice. Responses on Piazza are condescending, and the grading is unnecessarily harsh. Mistakes are made in class examples, which only add confusion. The course relies heavily on the textbook, and the labs are mismatched. The strict stance on academic misconduct creates unnecessary stress.
It's her first time teaching this course, there's bound to be some issues. The lectures only make sense if you read the textbook, which can be annoying, but it's motivation to learn things on your own. she's blunt which can offend some people, but I believe she just wants to challenge her students.
Easy tests! Gives lots of chances to boost ur grade.
The content is generally interesting, the class isn't too difficult. But expect to put some effort into learning the material and practice problems to do well. The assignments are designed in a way to guarantee free marks. However, she isn't the best at explaining concepts and disorganized. Her attitude at times made the learning environment poor.
The class average was a 94...which tells you quite a lot about the course content itself. That being said, she could have explained certain concepts more clearly. If you're looking for an easy gpa boost i'd recommend this course, but be ready to put in a moderate amount of effort.
Very Awful don't take this prof , she don't even post note online
Worst prof I've ever had. Always goes on a rant about how we can't take pictures of the notes or record the lecture. Doesn't take questions before class either, if you wanna ask a question, have to go to office hours (that is only on Friday). She is very strict for no reason, even the course coordinator is more chill than her. SWITCH IF YOU CAN!
speaks in a demeaning way to students, in person/email. I've asked a question during the midterm because I realized a mistake in the MT and the response I got from her was “You can't ask, maybe if you attended class you would know”. Unorganized with content and hostile. Blamed us for delaying MT when she asked 300 of us to line up outside Eng.
In the time that i have had her as an instructor, she cannot teach the content in a way that sticks and is beneficial to a student. She is demeaning and condescending and both her and course coordinator provided incorrect information saying examinations are like the assignments when they weren't even close. Prepare to read and teach yourself
She is a joke I swear I used to love physics then I took her class and I switched degrees honestly debating going into arts. She is rude, the quizzes only set you up for failure, I knew how to answer all the questions but in the time given if you don't know every answer before going into it you will never get anything over a 40.
She watches as half the class gets a tophat question wrong and moves on without explaining, gives barely any time to answer too. Her teaching is rushed and she explains the concepts very poorly. Also just plain rude answering questions in person and through email which creates a poor learning environment. Be prepared to study everything yourself.
She is hands down the worst professor in the entire school.
The absolute worst professor I've had in my entire undergrad. She shows no respect for students, and blatantly lies about offering volunteer reference letters for your CV. You will be doing yourself a favour by staying away no matter how easy her class is. Her classroom environment is equivalent to that of a prison.
She creates a very bad energy in her classes. Very rude to people who ask valid questions, rambles on about things that don't matter, and then complains when we're behind. If you can, take Abusara for 223 he is much nicer and more helpful. DO NOT RECOMMEND HER WHATSOEVER.
run. take this class with abusara if you can. she is NOT a good prof, and is very rude when you ask questions. she also throws shade at students who email her valid questions, claiming that she has moore important things to worry about!
Genuinely wondering how she is still a professor? Horrible attitude and inability to explain the most basic concepts. Literally degrades students whenever they ask questions. Terrible, stay away at all costs. Extremely hard questions on assessments that she avoids explaining in class.
What can I even say- I beg of you if you have the choice do not take it with her. She'll tell you everything is gonna be multiple choice, and there won't be this and that on it. And SIKEE. I'm convinced that she doesn't even contribute to making of any test or assignment because she doesn't know information about them most of the time.
Absolutely the worst experience with a prof I've ever had. Has no regard for anyone or anything. Doesn't post notes before the lecture, doesn't post completed notes after. Says we gotta read from the textbook but refuses to tell us what to read, therefore we don't know what to learn. An absolute rude human with the way she emails and belittles us
RUN. DO YOU HEAR ME? If you can postpone taking any course w her, please do. There aren't words to describe how unprofessional, uncaring, and tough she is on students. Acts like she's the course coordinator and says she use to be a kindergarten teacher. Find that VERY hard to believe given the way she facilitates her lecs. Please retire.
W Dr. Mazzino
Need I say more? The GOAT no doubt.
Awesome prof.
She's a very compassionate person, very willing to help outside of class. Other than being slightly disorganized at the start of the semester the lectures were enjoyable.
She was funny and always answered our questions. In class she can be tough but if you talk to her outside of class you can see she truly cares about her students and their success.
dr. mazzino is not a great professor. she rushes through material expecting students to have already studied it, and fails to explain important concepts well. while she advocates for removing unfair test questions etc, she is generally condescending to students and made physics (something I am normally good at) extremely hard for me to understand.
Dr Mazzino is not a great professor, she rushes through the content extremely fast, expecting her students to already be proficient in the course contents. She's quite tough to understand at times... and participation in the class matters at it is part of the grading criteria. Tough professor, tough class, test heavy with two cumulative exams.
Dr Mazzino is not a great professor by any means, she expects us to be proficient in the course materials already, usually skimming over important topics. She is quite hard to understand at times, and participation within the class is part of the grading criteria, 7% as well. Its also very test heavy, with two cumulative exams within 4 weeks apart.
Although grading was fairly lenient, Dr. Mazzino's lectures were arduous: They often went off on a tangent about personal experiences to the point where it detracted from the lecture material and were unclear in explaining certain topics. Attendance and Top Hat questions were also done in each lecture; make of that what you will.
Very nice prof, but the other reviews speak for themselves. She is very disorganized, but if you do the quizzes and get all the answers correct, then the final is super easy because all the questions were taken from the quizzes word for word. It's just too bad since science majors can't take this course anymore.
Laura Mazzino is a kind person and did make efforts to advocate for our class, especially when we had concerns. However, as a physics instructor, I found her teaching style extremely difficult to follow. She refused to post slides before class, which made it unnecessarily hard to take notes and understand the material in real-time.
