The Prof. kept the class interesting and engaging by using blackboard(internet) and updated contemporary material. In class participation was also very helpful and effective.

This class was very interesting and non-traditional. The expectations on the reading log was somehow unclear in the begining but after the first assignment it all came together.

the way this professor teachs influences students to know what is expected from them. this teacher does not give grades but rather makes a student work for them which is very important.also her teaching techniques are something you can apply to actual work related.

I love this class it was simple and you actually learn. at times it was a little boring and i began to doodle but betweenme paying attention and doodling i learned alot and found some of the stuff interesting. lol

She's is great & so is her classes. (I also took 1101). The material is SO interested. She spends class time getting you to think outside your norm, & has a true concern for student well being. She's very respectful to students. Obviously the person below me is too narrow minded and shouldn't have been in our class anyways.

Amazing class! It really got me ready for college and for life. Blackboard was easy to use, which I now use in all my classes. She posts things there so you don't have to buy a ton of book. She's very concerned for students well-being and cares that we get the material. Best teacher I've ever had at BC or high school. TAKE HER! You won't regret it.

She helped me so much in seeing how much reading & writing will affect my career & let's the class experience & see what the lit world has to offer. This prof cares 100% about students. Lesson is never dry. Prof encourages all perspective in a class discussion -- she helps students see all sides are right if backed up correctly. Greatest teacher!!

Proffessor McDermott is not an easy teacher. She makes you earn your grade. I am not going to lie at times I was fustrated with the class but I am glad that I stayed because I learned a lot. Best teacher ever!!! We had a situation with a disruptive student and the teacher handled it and kept us safe. (Prolly the multiple posts below is from that awful student). She cares so much about student. Anytime we needed help she assisted us, so we understood the material. I plan to take her for 1101, since she is so great.

She was very through,very challenging and this is what i consider an A+ because she makes you think outside of the box. She is very analitical puts things into perspective and draws the the student in to take interest in her class.

Class is work, but it's good for you. You'll learn so much and you'll be so prepared for other college classes

Great online class! Teacher was always available to answer questions and never got upset that I asked too many. Feedback on papers were very constructive. I definitely feel like I grew as a writer. I hope to take her for 1102 in the Fall.

She is really strict and keeps up with some of our work. i like becos she helped to become a better reader and writer, she made writing fun for me even though the semester was very stressful i was always looking forward to another class.I really got that extra push that i need to help me in college.

I not only grew as a student but also as a person. Cuz of the writing assignments, I got a full understand of what my career is gonna be like. Teacher is extremely helpful and really wants you to do well not just in class but also in life.There's alot of work, but it's for a reason. Those that can't handle this class clearly won't handle college

I learned so much in this class, which helped me when I got into 1101. Teacher does so much to help students and gives so many ways for you to learn and receive good grades. If you don't do well it's really all your fault

A great teacher as long as you show up to class will take the time out and help you understand the work. All you have to do is try your best and she will help you with the rest.All the negative comments on here about her are from students who think they should be giving the answer to in life remember you are a young adult trying to make it. grow up

EXCELLENT TEACHER. The homework is very easy because it pertains to your daily routine. The peer review is an great tool and very constructive. Remember this is a College not a High School because you are getting prepare to be a leader not a follower.

Great class! I too it online, but teacher was willing to answer questions by email, phone and I even went once in person. I recommend this course, because the subject is sooo interesting because it's about food!!!!

Very good professor. I took this class online. A lot of work because I took it in 6 weeks. Professor answered all of my emails quickly. She even helped me find extra help on assignments. If you do the work you will earn an A.

Such a great class and professor. This class covered poetry, fiction and nonfiction. From her feedback, I really improved my writing. She gave great advice on where to go for more CRW courses at the college and in the local community. She was readily available with email and by phone to answer questions. I feel so confident now about my work.

I had to work for my low A. This professor challenges you - you can't whip up something half-hearted and expect a decent grade. She provides feedback on assignments that is reasonably detailed. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn to write creatively, because I did learn a ton, but don't expect to coast through it.

One of the best professors I've ever had. She challenges you to improve yourself while giving real commentary on how to do this. She truly cares and is willing to go an extra mile. I live nearly an hour away, and I drove to BC only for her class. I only wish I could take more classes with her.

This class about food was so interesting. I learned so much on how to write as well as interesting facts about what goes on my table. Love this class and loved the professor even more

This class was super engaging with being blended online and face-to-face. All the course readings were found in the D2L shell. I really enjoyed the readings and the class lessons

The class help me decide to be an English major. It was so engaging. As an assignment, we had to send our work to publications. Everyone in class managed to get published and two won some awards for their work. She challenges you to improve poems while giving real commentary on how to survive in the world as a writer

I learned so much about poetry and prose writing in this class. I thought I knew everything, since I've been working in publication for a few year, but just returned to college. McD is the real deal. She knows her stuff and helps and takes the time to meet you where you are in your abilities in order to take you to the next level. BEST CLASS EVER

Her class is easy but you need to stay on top of your work she will not allow you to make up work. One paper at the end and discussions due every week. Take her she is awesome!

If you don't want a lot of work every week this class inst for you. Its super easy work but time consuming. Essay due every week. Electronics aloud. Shes also uses sarcasm a lot. She will help you with anything just ask. First day is a little intimidating but overall easy class just not for lazy people. Never used the textbook once!

Greatest teacher I've had. Aside from teaching us how to write, she introduced us to where to find resources on campus to help us write papers in the future. Her talks are interesting, and she takes time out from class to meet every student 1-on-1. I am looking forward to taking more classes with her.

If you're a dual enrollment student, this is not a "get an A+ with a breeze" class. She is a very good teacher. Her class required a lot of reading and comprehension. If you're taking her class online, make sure to know the D2L interface well. Her quizzes are cake but her "Discussions" assignments are tedious and time consuming.

Since my enrollment in McDs ENC1101 , I feel much more confident in how I write. I even think my writing has become more prolific. She played an instrumental role with applying traditional learning objectives over specialized subject matter that Im truly interested in. I will be able to use these components not only in my career in supply chain

I feel much more confident at the time to write a paper because I think that I learned some good techniques that helped me to write following an orders. Additionally, the fact that I have to research information for writing papers, it helps to practice and improve my reading skills since English it is not my first language.

Starting college again after more than 20 years has been an experience. One thing I found out was that I could barely write. I never knew APA style, wrote too much in passive voice, subject-verb issues at times, the flaws were many. But Ive learnt much since starting this English class and I know Im a better writer today than when I started.

She's a very nice lady and her class is not hard, but she requires a lot of reading and discussions. If you can take her class, not blended it would be better. The final paper is your final exam and makes up the bulk of your grade.

Prof. McDermott is a great professor. She has command of the English language and really prepares her student for the rigorous writing demand of their major. She really taught the class the very basics of APA; which is truly needed in the STEM courses. McDermott was exactly the professor I needed to prepare me for my future classes at Broward.

Easy grader with a lot of work. If she tries to give you crap, like she did me, don't stand for it. Contact your adviser like I did. Also, 0 communication whatsoever so don't expect questions to ever be answered. I created a group chat with about 10 other students, this is how we all passed. I would still take her again though bc of how she grades.

Took ENC1101 from Broward College online course from Laura McDermott during Spring 2020. Easy professor to learn from and the grading criteria was straightforward. Due dates were listed and just had to turn in the assignments on time. Will be taking her for ENC1102 in the summer. Easy A.

At first the syllabus is a little confusing but its a breeze once you get the hang of it. You should be thorough in discussion posts and essays. Teaches you how to navigate through college.

She was great, lectures were not long at all and she made sure we got all the help we needed when it came to papers

Only reason I ended with a C was because I kept forgetting about the library tutoring submissions, but she is a great professor those tutor session are an extra for your grade and help a lot. This was my 2nd time taking ENC1102 my first professor wasa jerk, but Prof McDermott made writing papers easier than my 1st professor. 10/10 recommend her

Like this professor. I took the 8 weeks session and sometimes was sick of papers, because you should do assignments 2-3 times a week. But as a professor she is good and could explain to you everything that you didn't understand.

Not a bad teacher. I was tired of constant work, but in general, if you do everything according to the instructions and do not leave it for the last day, then there are no problems. She did not waste my time and did not talk off topic. I would like to take again.

She's a solid professor. Her class specializes in internal analysis about motivations. It makes essays engaging and easier. She does lean heavy into ted talks for her lectures but it's not the worst thing ever considering her commentary can be pretty insightful. Just stay on top of your assignments, she will NOT reopen them without a valid excuse.

Shes a great teacher. Seriously she knows her stuff. If you chose a session 4 class you cannot complain about the workload when you know that session 4 is a condensed class. Less time = more work. This class was awesome and she teaches very well for the students who ACTUALLY want to learn. Very happy I took this class.
