Professor Pangallozzi is very knowledgeable in her subject, but lectures can be monotonous. Quizzes are online and open book. Lab every Friday but usually they're just questions from the book. Overall, good class and good lecturer. Take this class if you need a Gen Ed.
LP's lectures can get very boring and sometimes it's hard to pay attention, but she knows what she's talking about and is very open when it comes to office hours and grade changes. The class covers a lot of content and the quizzes go over everything from the book, but they're open note so they aren't difficult.
Basically this class was an absolute joke. I went to lecture once, just to find out when the final would be. All work is online or submitted to your TA in labs. The labs are super straight forward and mostly common sense stuff or a 2 second google search. I took this for a gen. ed. and would recommend for any who need it.
This class was all open note and online, quizzes and midterm were relatively easy due to being online. These questions were so hard that I would not have been able to complete if they weren't online. Labs were easy except for the first one. And the final is in person on paper. You can't make the whole class online and then give a test in person.
Pangallozzi is a nice professor is very knowledgeable about her subject. However, during the lecture, she has a powerpoint with ONLY images and all the content that's important is spoken aloud. If you miss it, you probably won't hear it ever again. So important to have the textbook with you and to take through notes every class.
She isn't bad, just not amazing. She whizzes by in lectures and doesn't post them unless you ask (even then, possibly not). The big assignment was a group paper that takes you the whole semester, and a couple quizzes and an easy final (all online). She uses two books mainly, and is overall fairly generous on grading.
She lets everyone talk over her during class, her lecture slides are all pictures that she doesn't explain at all, she didn't know how to work the iClickers so we all ended up getting a 100 in attendance and participation. The class is really easy but we have a final coming up and I have learned absolutely nothing
Pangallozzi is my least favorite professor I've taken at Bing. The most boring lectures ever, slideshows with no text, and annoying grading. Labs are easy, but the open note tests online are surprising difficult, and the in class final even with open notes was also extremely challenging. I would avoid her class like the plague.
Her lectures are out right boring and pertain nothing to the quizzes that she gives. In order to pass the 5 quizzes, you need to thoroughly read the ENTIRE textbook, or rely heavily on Ctrl+F (as the quizzes are take home open notes). Final was 120 MC questions and difficult, u NEED to bring digital copy of textbook to final or you will STRUGGLE!!
I took her class because I thought it would be an easy A, but it wasn't. From someone that has gotten consistent As, this class was ridiculously hard. The material is boring, but you have to go to class to know what her quiz questions are going to be. BUY THE ONLINE TEXTBOOK. Then you can Ctrl F everything for the online quizzes. Also, an A is a 95
The class as a whole was not too hard but the lectures were EXTREMELY BORING. Labs and quizzes were fine for the most part and take very little time to complete. However the final was open notes and computer yet was the hardest test I have ever taken. For some reason that final was extremely difficult however I think there was a curve
She is a brilliant professor who definitely knows what shes talking about in lecture. Very willing to answer questions and help with anything. The class would have been amazing had she not been so disorganized and last minute with things. The syllabus ended up being changed almost everyday, it was hard to keep up with.
She is incredibly unorganized and changes things last minute all the time and expects the student to be accountable for that. Gives you a lot to read and the quizzes are incredibly specific, especially about the authors' opinion on the subject which seems unimportant. She knows a lot about the topic but she is a very boring lecturer.
Knowledgeable but disorienting and disorganized. Quizzes are specific on details from the chapters text.
A very nice professor who was available during her office hours. I thought the class was interesting, lectures were often boring. Attendance was not mandatory, but she took it sometimes. The work for this class was easy but often time consuming; this included open note quizzes, simple labs, textbook reading, and a group case study.
Lectures are slow. Labs are tedious. Quizzes are doable. If you put in the effort, you'll get a good grade.
By far the worst professor I have had at Binghamton. While she does seem smart, she is unable to teach a class. She reads off slides with only pictures the entire class, so they are very unhelpful. Her monotonous tone can put a caffeine induced squirrel to sleep. Her lectures mimic the textbook so no need to be in class. The final is 120 MC.
This professor is very knowledgeable about her class and the subject, however, the lectures are almost straight from the textbook. They are very, very, boring. Easy open note quizzes, easy labs, and an open book, open note final. This professor wants you to pass, and makes it pretty obvious.
If you like to be bored beyond belief, you've found the right professor. I found myself drifting off every class even when I actively tried to focus, and I'm attentive. No one showed up to lecture by the end. If you get the online textbook for the final and online quizzes, you should do pretty well in the class. And don't read Nagle; waste of time.
I put no effort into this class because I was pledging, but still got a B. This doesn't sound great but if you do all the work, unlike me, you'll get an A. One easy assignment due every friday, open note final, 3 online quizzes. Get the online textbook!!!!!!!!!!
Personally i found the lectures boring however the labs were easy grade boosters and the quizzes are all open notes and the final is only worth 10% so its an easy A class.
Very little from the lectures are on the quiz, very few people go. Finding a free, online version of the book is best to use for quizzes, very easy gen ed.
Dr. Pangallozzi is very nice and the class is interesting, however lectures are long and sometimes hard to follow. I didnt take notes as rigorously the second half of the semester and i still have good grades. I recommend for a gen-ed credit or to explore if youre interested in becoming a geography major.
Professor Pangallozzi was one of the most understanding and relaxed Professor's I've ever had. Some of the labs were difficult and time consuming. Overall, it was an easy class and wasn't too hard to do well if you did the work you were assigned. I would definitely take another class with her.
You can tell the professor cares very much for the subject matter and wants her students to do the same. However lectures can be dull at times. Overall the class is relatively easy with online quizzes that are fast as long as some effort is put forth and labs are fairly interesting and self explanatory.
Honestly don't really need to show up to lectures. You have a lab every week due Friday and 5 quizzes which are all online and open notes. I would suggest getting a group to take these quizzes with but other than that its a pretty easy A if you do the work.
An easy class! She makes things clear cut and easy. Lectures can be a bit boring sometimes but she gives some good information that could be on quiz or final in lecture. Quizzes are online. Lab on Fridays are mandatory.
Yes the lectures are boring but this is geography I don't think it's possible to be interesting. Quizzes are easy, labs are time consuming but can be done the night before. One problem was that TAs had their own rules such as mine that required labs be submitted before that weeks class time (1:10) while other lab sections could submit by midnight.
Laura is a nice person, but I found her lectures dull most of the time. The quizzes arent difficult, and the labs are easy enough but some are time consuming. The first book she assigns is pretty interesting, but I wasnt at all interested in the regular course material. Not a terrible class if you like geography.
Awesome teacher. So kind and helpful, even brought her dog to class :)
Amazing teacher. Very knowledgable. Take if you need gen ed. All quizzes online, lab every friday but not bad. easy class.
One of the most genuine and understanding professors at Binghamton. She is very intelligent. Lectures tend to be boring. No tests, only labs and online quizzes. Final is open notes.
Great professor. Having to go home midway through the semester due to coronavirus, she continued to lecture in a way that was easy to understand. If you are taking her course on campus, you should go to class to get the notes. Most of her notes are dictated, the slides just support them. It's a beginner class, so it isn't too hard. Would take again
Nice professor, has more patience to help students
She is very caring towards her students and truly wants the best for them. She has constantly looked out for us reminding us about assignments and labs, and she is very accessible outside of class to answer any questions that may come up from lecture. 10/10 would take a class with her again. Also her dog is amazing.
Professor Pangalozzi was one of my favorite professors. She is extremely knowledgeable in the field, and is very clear with what she expects. Her lecture are very helpful if you listen. The quizzes are online as are the labs so you can use your notes and textbook to help you. Overall, great class and would love to take ANY class with Mrs Pangalozzi
An easy class to take as long as you do the labs and quizzes, which are relatively simple and open book. Lecture attendance is not mandatory to pass the class.
Professor Pangallozzi is a great professor and does her best to keep her students interested in the material. A very easy to understand course with a light workload. As long as you keep up with the labs and quizzes you will get a good grade.
Attend the lab sections and youll pass
You read about 1-2 textbook chapters a week. Its about 60 pages total but there are a lot of pictures that take up space on the pages. Quizzes and labs make up most of your grade and are all open book. Do the readings and take some notes and you will do really well in this class. The final is the only exam and its only 10% of your grade. No papers.
She is a very nice professor and as long as you attend the lab sections and keep up with her quizzes, you will do very well in this course.
Professor Pangallozzi is a great Professor. As long as you put in the work and take the quizzes/labs an A is achievable. Shes definitely passionate about what she teaches and I recommend taking this class for a Gen Ed requirement. She was also understanding and accommodating during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Great course and the class is interesting
i loved this class there was one lab every week and lectures were always easy to follow. theres enough work to boost your grade if needed but she makes it super easy to learn and really cares about her students doing well. would definitely take this class again if i could
Professor Pangallozzi is a great professor who genuinely wants her students to do well. Very easy to receive an A in the course as long as you complete the 5 quizzes and lab assignments each week. Final is open notes and therefore very manageable. Attendance is not crucial in doing well. Overall would recommend this class as an elective or gen ed.
Attendance was very optional. Grade was based on labs, quizzes and final which can all be taken with friends.
Came in expecting an A, but received an A- just like many others did in the class. Class decently loaded with work, 2 discussion questions a week from lecture videos/textbook, labs and quizzes each week, and a final exam. Although there were many readings we had to do, many ppl didn't read and still received low A's.
The class didn't have much work besides "Labs" which were basically webquests and required some reading but weren't that bad. There were a total of 5 quizzes which were all easy and the final was the same as the quiz questions.
The way she speaks in her lectures is really really monotone and boring which makes you (at least me) really disinterested in what she has to say. There are 5 quizzes, lowest 1 is dropped and the final is made up of all questions on the 5 quizzes. There is a lab due every week, a little time consuming but not hard. Attendance mandatory on lab days
Due to Covid restrictions and class being held fully online when I took GEOG 239, there were many technical difficulties that occurred which sometimes made class hard to follow. She doesn't typically respond to emails & posts things at 11pm which are due the next morning.
Extremely accommodating and wants you to succeed. Makes extra time for you and listens to feedback. If kids were confused or didn't feel comfortable attending classes, she would accommodate. She would push back deadlines if requested by the class, push back certain lessons to explain labs students were confused about, and always there to listen.
If you do the weekly labs and take the quizzes you will get an A
Professor Pangallozzi was an awesome teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and great at her delivery. The COVID pandemic forced the class online, so things felt a little rocky to start, but she had it pretty well figured out in a few weeks. Quizzes and tests were all online and open book, so as long as you keep up with the reading it an easy A.
Professor Pangallozzi is a knowledgeable professor, but I felt the class was disorganized. She was definitely very busy and was not easy to get in touch with. This class was online, the course might be more organized in person.
In the beginning of this class I was super overwhelmed and almost dropped it. I'm very glad I didn't because it turned out to be my favorite class and a pretty easy A. The readings may seem overwhelming but you only have to skim them as long as you watch the lectures. Professor is very kind and understanding. Would love to take again.
The class and material were confusing but the professor was extremely helpful and understanding. She grades based on a curve and as long as you do all the work the worst grade you can get is a B- There are several quizzes and a final (no midterm) and 10-11 labs. Overall, great professor and genuinely cares about her students. Definitely recommend
She means well and did her best to adjust the class for covid.
Class was easy and good introduction class to geography. Her lectures had some interesting things that arent found in the textbook and overall the class was easy and she was very understanding when it came to distant learning.
During the online covid semester, Laura was my most accommodating professor towards students. She was pretty lenient and understanding with deadlines. This was truly an interesting course and there were many areas to earn easy points in.
Very easy going
Laura has been an extremely understanding professor during the Fall 2020 semester. Once that has not been easy for anyone. She tried to keep class interesting by having discussions often and highly encouraging participation. If you do the readings then quizzes, lectures, labs and discussion should come easily.
Professor was super understanding about the difficulties of online learning during the pandemic. Was lenient with deadlines and coursework. Would take the class again
Overall good prof, no issues with her or the class (GEOG101). Everything was graded very fairly and it was very easy to get a good grade on all the quizzes/exams as long you watched the lectures and take notes on the textbook chapter keywords. She expected us to read a lot but I never did.
The professor can be disorganized but she's very understanding. It's not hard to get an A as long as you do the labs and she drops the lowest quiz grade. There's a lot of reading but she summarizes them in lectures and she was lenient with handing in labs late. She's genuinely caring and her dog is really cute.
Pay attention to lectures and ask questions about labs. She is very knowledgeable about geography, particularly water! Not hard to get in the A if you do the basic work of taking notes during lectures (which she records!) and do the labs. She is very lenient with giving extensions during the pandemic. Definitel would recommend taking a course w/her
I took this class in 2020 and I don't know if it was just the circumstances but this class was lacking structure and presence. Lectures were hard to sit through sometimes but it was an easy pass. If you are looking for surface level insight into the field consider this class.
Professor Pangalozzi is a very caring professor, she assigns a lot of readings but you can skim through papers. As long as you demonstrate knowledge of the readings and participate, she will give you a good grade. My lab grades weren't the best, and I still got an A. Exams are based on the textbook, not hard. Will recommend her for ENVI majors.
this is a pretty easy class online as most answers to quizzes and exams are on quizlet. However, she is completely disorganized when it comes to blackboard grading. She assigns ALOT of readings each week, and she made the final 2 hours with 120 questions which was crazy. In conclusion, it is a pretty easy class but id say find an easier gen ed !
Very caring professor. Make sure to submit the (not-so-difficult) homework on time. Getting to know the concepts behind each chapter is the most important thing to keep in mind for this course and will help the most for quizzes, midterm and final. Lab manual makes lab H.W. easy. Submit work on time, know concepts and small factoids, and get an A.
class is boring but overall not hard to get a good grade. you do use the textbook for the quizzes so you need that.
I am honestly so confused. I didn't go to any lectures or labs, just did the assignments and labs posted, and ended up getting an A in the class. Don't know how I got blessed and I really couldn't tell you anything about the professor except that the lectures I did go to were extremely boring. I got an A tho so I would recommend.
I went to the first few lectures, then never again after September. Her powerpoints were just pictures so I had to write what she was saying, and I could not keep up. I just did the textbook readings but never the other ones, not even the 2 books she assigned. Final was open note and pretty hard. Quizzes were kinda hard but I also did not read
Dr. Pangelozzi never answered emails, so I had to go to office hours. She was disorganized - I got the same grade on online quizzes when I did and didn't study. Quizzes were on material for the upcoming week, and she made it extremely unclear what she expected when it came to assignments. However, she did seem to know the material she covered.
The class was easy but she's a very boring prof. Need the textbook for quizzes. She's a fair grader and there's only one final paper/presentation. Not a hard class to get an A bc labs are free 100 if you do them and they're 30% of your grade. Would recommend if you need an easy class for envi credit.
Boring professor and taking notes in the class are hard cause she only speaks and doesnt put them on the screen so you gotta be quick. if you read the textbook you wont have to pay as much attention. Class is fairly easy but extremely boring; if you need an easy A, this is it.
Her lectures are so boring but you don't even need to pay attention because I sure did not. She didn't give out a test, only an essay that you could do on whatever you wanted, so long as it was about an environmental issue. There are weekly quizzes based on the reading but they're all open book and online so you should be fine.
Cannot understand anything she says. She mumbles all class, I would definitely not recommend this class if you're taking it for a gen ed credit. TA also would never email me back, so frustrating.
Ludicrous amount of reading, 100+ pages for a lot of days, even a whole book for a week. Couldn't understand most of what she said in class. Was not clear with important info. TAs never know what's happening. Material is easy enough though and she curved the tests generously
She reads directly off the board and it is not usually worth it to go to class. A lot of the grade is easy because the labs are 30% of the grade. Tests are very difficult and usually people don't know what to study. She makes herself available and is very communicative. Recommend if you take with friends
She is a pretty bad professor. She is hard to understand because she mumbles a lot. She reads right off her notes instead of explaining it like a good professor does. Her tests are a little tricky but she curves them cuz she is an awful prof. Labs boost the grade. Wouldn't recommend this class or her.
I took this class as a gen ed and she runs it so poorly. Nothing is ever clear, even the ta's do not know what is going on. During lecture she mumbles and you literally cannot even hear what she is saying. Test questions are difficult and I only did good on them because they were open note. I would not recommend this class.
The topics explored in the lectures were easy to learn, but sometimes dragged on too long. Dr. Pangallozzi barely showed text on slides but talked a lot, so definitely take notes. The labs and weekly discussion questions were easy, but she assigned a ton of readings, which only come in handy on poorly designed open-note tests.
Class is an easy A. Lectures aren't mandatory, only lab class is once a week. I passed with an A with doing minimal to no work. While the course is easy and its an easy A the teacher is pretty bad. Her lectures are useless and she contradicts herself a lot.
Professor Pangallozzi is very good at what she does. The class that I took was both informative and easy to follow. An A is easily attainable if you put the normal amount of effort in. I'd recommend taking this class for a fun, relatively easy, gen ed.
Took this class as a senior. She is probably the most unorganized professor Ive had. Lectures are useless and so are the readings. Not a hard class by any means just a ton of busy work. Dont think I learned a single thing
She is an AWFUL professor. Lectures are completely disorganized and amazingly hard to follow. She is almost totally inaccessible by email (and usually rushes out of the room when lectures are over). Her labs are outdated and incomprehensible. Take this class if you want to be frustrated and confused.
The class is definitely an easy A and I would recommend it only if you need an easy G credit you barely do anything and get 100 on every assignment all of the tests are open book which is nice. I never go to lecture but the prof herself is incomprehensible, half the assignments have some kind of error in them overall just annoying.
Awesome !
This class was rather boring but awfully easy, there are 10 very easy labs that aren't very long and account for 50% of your grade. If you do them, you get an 100. The 2 tests are open note as well as the final and she gives a generous curve if the class doesn't do well. Attendance isn't mandatory in lecture but friday lab class is mandatory.
somewhat easy A. Weekly readings are not necessary to succeed. Labs make up 50% of your grade. Labs super easy (busy work), but graded on completion (due every Friday). Lab class is every Friday. Once labs are over there is no class on Fridays. Tests are hard and need good studying, but don't count for much of the final grade. Very manageable
Attendance not taken. Two open notes tests where you can use lecture slides, text book, personal notes. Weekly labs. Research essay at the end of the semester.
Do the labs! Have notes for the tests, and you're good. Best Gened I've taken here at Bing. Her dog is adorable. THIS is the definition of a 101 class; you put the basic work in, and you even get a little out of it. I actually learned from this class, despite not doing too much besides an assignment a week. Go Larua go!
Professor Pangallozzi is very passionate about her field. Her lectures can be boring at times but can occasionally be interesting. HUGE test curves so if you show up to labs and tests you cannot fail. Wants her students to succeed. Do the labs (which are easy) and glance over the PowerPoints before tests and you will do fine. Good 'G' credit class.
She is a trainwreck. She is unorganized, does not answer emails, and if you do go to class you cant even hear her because she mumbles. The class is beyond boring especially at 8 am. The class is easy the labs are just annoying so I would still take the class, but if you can find something just as easy for the same gen ed, take that instead.
graded on labs and tests. the 1st lab was deffo the longest one. she posts notes n her presentations. tests are openbook j ctrl + f. Labs r like half ur grade so attend them j to sign the attendance sheet; it's basically j a free period to do work. lectures r not mandatory attendance and r kinda useless. she only made us go once.
Attendance is not mandatory, but she changed the tests from open note to closed note so if u don't read the textbook it's difficult. Would not take a class of hers again.
She's not exactly accessible, and it seems like she feels as if she has better things to be doing than lecturing. That said, she's clearly extremely knowledgeable in her field. Her lectures are packed with info but seriously boring. Decent professor, 7/10.
She was very passionate about the subject, but the lectures are very slow and sometimes hard to hear, and I found that I learned the material better on my own. Tests are not too bad, and even when they are open notes I would study the material because her questions are very specific.
took this class for an easy A gen ed and it was exactly that. 50% of the grade was labs which were graded essentially on completion. the professor herself is all over the place but it doesn't really affect anything. the lab templates were posted the day it was due but they're very doable. the TA's were really nice.
She is definitely passionate about geography, but she just reads off slides so lectures are extremely boring. We convinced her to post the slides so attendance wasn't mandatory. She did random attendance at the beginning of the semester though. Very boring, but our final was open everything like we used Google. Her dog's very cute though.
Bad class all around. Lazy lectures with little info, expected to essentially teach yourself through textbooks, she makes you buy her lab manual and then you need to transcribe the manual yourself to submit the labs. Maybe she's better in higher level classes, but I found her to be disrespectful to our time and I learned basically nothing.
Bad lectures with little information, you have to buy her lab manual and then retype it by hand. All you really have to do to get a good grade is complete the labs, though. Don't bother buying the books. Maybe she's better in upper-level courses, but I really just learned absolutely nothing.
This class is an easy gen ed. It's not that interesting and lecture attendance has declined dramatically. Labs are mandatory attendance. You need to purchase the lab manual and labs are 50% of your grade. Your lab grade depends on your TA, but most are chill. The other textbooks are a waste of money. Midterm/Final are online.
Quite a mess.
Dr. Pangallozi is a good professor, the only problem I have is that she just drones and drones about the topic. Friday classes are mandatory but it allow you to ask the TA any questions. I think the class was pretty good, the work is not hard at all, and all exams are online. If you need this class for a G credit, I highly recommend!
Definition of an easy A. Midterm and Final are open note and online. Labs are graded on completion and are worth 50% of your grade. Would 100% take this class if you need to fulfill a gen ed requirement and need an easy A. Lectures are incomprehensible, worst slides I've ever seen and the professor mumbles. Expect to learn nothing at all.
Definitely the most disorganized professor I have ever had. She would say the test is a certain format for weeks, and than the day of the test the format is completely different. She is incredibly disrespectful to people who bring to her concerns about her unfairness towards students and brushes it off with a attitude. Avoid taking her if you can!
Like many of the other reviews say, she is VERY disorganized and changes her mind daily about assignments/work without informing anyone about the changes. She grades a bit harshly and isn't very understanding towards student issues, especially when the issue is in regards to her. I didn't find her lectures informative at all. Wouldn't recommend.
Super easy class. Only textbook you need is the lab manual. All lectures are posted online and she reads directly from the speaker notes. Don't go to lecture unless you are genuinely interested in geography. Lab class takes attendance with a TA. ALL TESTS, INCLUDING THE FINAL, are ONLINE, OPEN NOTES. Take this class for an easy A for a "G" gen ed.
Dr. Pangallozzi is very knowledgeable. But her GEO 101 class involved hundreds of pages of reading each week, and tests were oddly specific. Also sometimes lectures were a bit confusing, complicated, and unrelated to textbook material. If you want to earn an A, you must work at least 2-3 hours per day for this course.
Dr. Pangallozzi's GEO101 is a mixed bag - lectures can be dry, but the tests are manageable with diligent studying. Labs are a chore, but unstuck AI proved helpful for filling gaps. Overall, a decent gen ed if you're willing to put in the work.
