Pence is honestly the best professor I've ever had at Hartford up until this point and I'm a Junior. Not once did I ever open the text book and all her quizes and exams are straight from her class notes, so I recommend going to class. Plus, she's very entertaining and always doing little experiments in class which include blowing things up!

The one semester I was at Hartford in the Fall '05 she was, without a doubt, the best professor I ever had. She had a keen interest in her students. Not only in their success in class but also in life. Highly recomend for all!

Best Professor ever! Really! She gets to know everyone even though the class size is huge, is available outside of class, and makes lecture interesting despite the early morning hours. Best part: action packed demos and Back exams of Blackboard! Study for quizzes and exams, and know your math and you'll be fine.

Dr. Pence is a great teacher. It is hard to get into her class but if you can, I definitely reccomend it. She took the time to get to know everyone in class and my class had at least 40 people in it. She is highly available and if you go to class and her review sessions you will surely succeed.

Amazing teacher!! Very helpful, and is willing to meet with students after class. She always brings an experiment to class so that in the middle when everyone is ready to fall asleep (8 AM class) she sets it off and it really helps get you through the last 20 mins!!

Best teacher I have ever had in any class in any subject in my entire life. Professor Pence is so nice and wlilling to help, and has the most effective teaching style. Take this professor if you can you will learn so much, and enjoy any class with her!

Class was super easy she makes everything so clear. Taught all material very well and was very nice. Grading was totally fair and she spiced up class with an experiment demonstration every day.

Dr. Pence is by far the most amazing professor I have ever had in any course I have ever taken. The material is difficult but she makes it seem so much easier and teaches the class everything you need to know to do well. You don't really need the textbook because her lectures are so good and she teaches the material in the clearest way possible.

She ws an extremely helpful professor. She is always willing to help you in any way possible and manages to make pretty hard source material extremely easy to comprehend. She also managed to keep classes entertaining with her sense of humor. I would highly recommend taking her class if you get the chance as you definitely would not regret it.

Amazing! I'm a civil engineer who has always hated chemistry, but she makes it so much better! Lectures are super helpful for examsquizzes, does a demo every class relevant to lecture, and is very approachable and helpful. She's incredibly nice and interested in helping students learn. Inspirational professor. 13 years ago (sophomore year) Dr Pence encouraged me to go for the full BS in chemistry. Her advanced synthesis and inorganic classes were hard but the skills I developed helped me succeed at my first job in pharmaceutical R&D and later when i went back to pharmacy school. I am not surprised to see her rated so highly.

Awesome lecturer, she made my 3 hours each day fly by pretty quick and broke up talking with neat demonstrations. Great attitude, forgiving grader, and every thing you need to know for quizzes she writes on the board (no book needed). Take notes, study, and you will do well! Take her 3 week summer class if you can, it's over before you know it!

One of the best professors at UHART!!! Once you right down her exact notes you will be fine. She also likes to pull your name randomly from a stock of cards so be prepared to answer questions.

I hated chemistry and assumed i would always be terrible at it. It has only been a few weeks with her and I LOVE HER. if you have to take chemistry, make sure you have Pence!!!! she is funny, and very helpful. She makes chemistry as easy as it could be. I love her to death!!

Dr. Pence is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Ever. She's fun and engaging and is always willing to go over the top to help her students understand the material and get extra help. All the quizzes and exams are based only on the lectures. Taking her again for CH111

She is easily one of the best professors I've ever had. Very clear in lectures, gives great feedback. Homework is optional but if you do the homework your grade will reflect that. Performs live chemical reactions at the end of the week. And the best part is she offers multiple test examples for each exam so you can study them. Plus I love her jokes

Dr. Pence cares about her students and does absolutely everything she can to make sure students understand. She holds reviews which I would definitely recommend attending. She provides back exams from previous years to use to study for the tests. I was required to take chem 110 and 111 and I am so lucky that I had her for a teacher. Amazing!

Laura Pence is a wonderful professor at Uhart. I had not taken chemistry since freshman year of high school and she made it very easy to understand and do well. Her teaching is incredible and if you show up to her class and pay attention, you will have no problem getting a good grade. She is very genuine, caring, and has a lot of corny jokes. Dr. Pence was by far one of the best professors I've ever had. You have to request to be in her lecture if you're not a biochem major, and I took it at 8 am but it was totally worth it. She does demos in each lecture, and she does review sessions every week. As long as you work hard, you'll get a good grade.

The class has a decent amount of short essays and annotations, but she provides the textbook and the work overall is enjoyable. The class discussions foster a really friendly environment!

Dr. Pence makes sure all her students understand what's happening in her class. Participation is expected but she won't force you if you don't want to. I recommend not skipping her lectures because her quizzes and exams are exactly like the lecture. She really prepares everyone for the exams so there's no surprises when taking it.

My favorite part of how she teaches CH 111 is her use of weekly demonstrations by performing an experiment relating to what was taught, which helped to solidify course content. Dr. Pence went above and beyond as a professor during COVID-19! Also, this course (Honors Seminar: Science and Public Policy) is incredibly fun, the information is relevant and presented in a fun interactive way! Wonderful discussions!

The HON course provides a view on politics and science that one could not receive anywhere else. Every lecture Dr. Pence gives is interesting. You will leave class feeling accomplished.

Amazing professor, so greatful she took me in a few weeks after the spring registration started so i was pretty lucky to be able to transfer into her class. She explains like no other and if you do have questions and doubts, she has review sessions thats very manigable. Exam grading is fair, just study and do practice problems.

Coming into chemistry from high school I didn't like it at all and I honestly was dreading the idea of taking a Chemistry course in college, but after taking Dr. Pence's class chemistry is now one of my best subjects. She has a lot of patience and will work with until you get it!
