great prof makes sure the class understands what she's saying & makes a sincere effort to figure out if they don't in order to clarify eager to answer questions and does so in a vibrant manner but we fell behind schedule because of her effort to make sure we understand but it's not cause she slacked off. the course is content-heavy and fast-paced

Dr. Stirchak was super caring towards the students throughout the students no matter the circumstance, and although the second MT was horrendous, she was nice enough to go over it with students that showed up for office hours and made sure that they understood what they got wrong. Dr. Stirchak provides top-tier lectures which engage students with her enthusiasm and passion for chemistry. Learning is done mainly through ChIRP practice, and lectures are used to better understand concepts which might be difficult to understand on your own. Her supplemental videos are helpful for those who struggle on practice questions.

I struggle with chemistry but felt that Dr. Stirchak did everything to be helpful both in and out of class. Her lectures were great albeit kind of slow, but her use of examples is a great quality in first-year chemistry professors that I appreciated. She is also always accessible via email/office hours and made me feel welcome to ask questions.

Lectures were great with content being taught well and entertaining. She did an amazing job running this course. Things were organized very well with extra resources, canvas organization, course announcements and the ability to contact her quickly. The pacing was a bit scattered at times but I think this was her first time coordinating 123.

The course itself is challenging, but Stirchak does a lovely job explaining the material and uses great metaphors to break down complex topics. She is more than willing to meet outside of class and is 100% dedicated to her students.

Amazing prof. Super understanding and thorough with her teaching.

Stirchak is a solid prof with genuine care for her students, she will boost your section specific grade. She has slight time management issues, so expect to self-study some of the last chapters' content. She is easily accessible outside of classes, but don't expect it to be an easy class, its up to you to manage your own studying.

Stirchak has many office hour sessions (esp during exam season) and is always open to questions. Chem121 has a section specific grade that she will boost with bonus assignments which was great. We had to self learn a few chapters a week before the final which was v stressful so beware of that. Otherwise 10/10 person, v enthusiastic and caring.

She makes the course 100% much easier to understand. Always lets us know what we need to know! Office hours are amazing, and she truly goes above and beyond. She is patient and is never annoyed even when you ask stupid questions. 10/10 would love to have her again for Chem. I would literally switch out of my class right now if I could.

Dr.Stirchak wasn't my prof, but I took Chemistry 121 and had a different lecture speaker. I ended up watching her recorded lectures though because she did such a good job of breaking down the concepts into digestible bits. Some professors simply read off a textbook or slide, and some teach. Dr.Stirchak definitely TEACHES. Would recommend her 100%!

She also had extra office hours before any exams which was great (and sometimes stayed longer just to answer more questions!) Would definitely take any class with her again.

Stirchak is great, super caring and respects her students. Chem 123 on the other hand, is an incredibly difficult course that requires a LOT of hard work to do mediocre... even though Stirchak is great for the most part, there were some times that she didn't do a great job explaining content. Chem 123 is completely different than 121 too!

I'm not actually in her section but thank goodness she is the course coordinator. She saved my grade with all the videos of recorded solutions. She clearly explains content with cat analogies, and I would have failed without her recorded lectures. My favourite quote by her is “I love the way you think” She says this everytime someone answers a question and I think it's the cutest thing. She truly cares about her students, and she makes every lecture fun to attend.

She was engaging and funny in lecture and always encouraged and welcomed questions. After the first midterm went poorly she spoke about mental health and was sympathetic to the student experience. She's also really well organized and provided extra homework and quizzes (not for marks) for her section.

Stirchak is honestly a really kind and caring prof, and she is also great at teaching! You can tell that she deeply cares about her students. However, it is hard to get a high grade in this class as there are virtually no grade boosters, and the tests can be quite difficult (though fair).

Laura wasn't even my chem 121 prof, but probably the only reason I did well and passed this course. Her recorded lectures were engaging and the way she taught content was actually comprehensible. An overall amazing prof and truly cares for her students success.

She posts additional lectures which are helpful for students who are confused with her lectures. She also explains how to solve problems from the textbook verbally and holds office hours frequently. Before the exams, she hands out practice exam worksheet that we go over in class or complete by yourself if you wish.

The greatest professor of all time. Even if chemistry is not at all your interest, Prof. Stirchak renders it engaging and even fun! Would take this class a million times over.

She's not even my prof last term but I would watch all her videos after every lecture I attended from the lecturer I was enrolled in. She cracks me up mid-lecture and it's so cute I love her teaching style...should've realized sooner it's better to self-study and consolidate info by watching her lectures than attending my actual lecturer's class :(

Dr. Stirchak is one of THE BEST professors you can ever hope to get in ANY university. Her lectures are nothing short of amazing, and she is very accessible outside of class. She is so funny and really preps you well for the exams. Heck, this prof is the single reason why I look forward to chemistry lectures everyday.

Dr. Stirchak is an amazing prof. Her lectures are engaging and makes you want to go to them. Her office hours are really helpful and should be taken advantage of! Chem 121 is a hard course, but taking it with Dr. Stirchak made me not hate the class as much. If you get the chance to take her class you definitely should!

The GOAT of chem profs. The class can be tough at times but she is a genuinely caring person and provides the best office hours out of any prof by far, even without questions they were immensely helpful to listen to. She teaches content at a comfortable pace, and is willing to help with any questions. Wish I could have her again in future classes.

Very engaging lectures

Dr. Stirchak is actually the goat. The energy she brings to every lecture motivates you to actually pay attention and learn. The fact that she has solution videos to practice problems just shows not only is she a great teacher, but also how she genuinely cares about her students. What an absolute legend; I'm such a big Stirchak fan.

Dr.Stirchaks kindness is truly admirable and she can teach!! Go to office hours, she doesn't care if you aren't in her section. I went from disliking chemistry to genuinely enjoying the material because of her (especially for Chem 121)!! Pro tip: Ask her for a croissant during her office hours and you never know :)

Dr. Stirchak is an amazing prof! She's always ready to answer any questions and provides a lot of office hours to accommodate for students' busy schedules. I'm not even in her lecture but she knows who I am! If you have her, don't be afraid to reach out to her for any questions!

I think she could have been more understanding after giving us a midterm that more than half failed... But overall, she's great and I would def recommend her class for CHEM121. I'm not in her section, but the fact that she uploads video solutions for each problem set (2+ hours each) shows insane dedication. She explains things very thoroughly and in an easy-to-understand manner. Like these videos are seriously carrying me rn I love her so much STIRCHAK4EVA

she's AMAZING but sometimes she's too famous for OH lol, too much people coming in to the OH so need to make sure to get there first so that we can ask questions. but aside, she's a great person and dedicates her time to help students! and i'm sure she's available if we reached out to her. she also helped me calm my stress before finals. lovely.

SHE IS SUCH A SWEET AND AMAZING PERSON. SHE UNDERSTANDS THE STRUGGLES OF STUDENTS AND EXPLAINS EVERYTHING IN SUCH AN EASY WAY. IM NOT EVEN IN HER SECTION BUT I WATCH HER LECTURES AND ALWAYS ENJOY THEM. SHE NEVER FAILS TO MAKE STUDENTS LAUGH AND FEEL CARED FOR. But be sure to work hard though!!

Appreciated the accessibility of the resource center, her responsiveness on Piazza, and how she provided us with so much practice for every single week. Clearly understood how it felt to struggle with organic chem. Lectures were entertaining and recordings were quite helpful when I had more important things to attend to. All around great prof.

I didn't have Stirchak as my professor but she is head of the Chemistry department. I have talked to her a few times and she is AMAZING. She is passionate about her work and presents course content really well, even when I went to ask her questions, she was very warm and comforting. Highly recommend you get her for first term chemistry!

If you get a chance to pick your first-year chemistry professor, pick Dr. Stirchak! Signing up for her section was the best decision I've made last year. She cares about her students and loves teaching. Having a 1-1 with her after almost failing MT1 helped me get on the right track. She is THE BEST In conclusion, LET ME REPEAT! SHE IS THE BEST!

You can feel that she loves teaching and cares about you through daily convos and all the things she does for her students (e.g. hosting 3hr office hours for 4 consecutive days before the final!). We may debate which carbon on the chair is the best, but there's no debate—Dr. Stirchak is the GOAT! (btw, TOP RIGHT IS THE BEST!~) if ykyk :)

Dr. Stirchak is a very good lecturer and she genuinely cares for her students. However, CHEM 123 is pretty content heavy, so the course can be difficult at times.

A literal saint for first year chemistry courses. I wasn't even in her section but I attended her lectures for the entire semester because I didn't like my own. She's always wanting the best for students and provides so much practice problems and office hours - I've never seen anyone as dedicated to wanting the best for her students as her.

Professor Stirchak is probably one of the best profs within the chemistry department; she has tons of office hours for students and tries to be flexible if they don't work for you, as well as posts all lecture content with recordings and additional practice. The course is overall pretty content heavy, but Stirchak does good with how she presents it

CHEM121 and 123 are both hard courses but her lectures are just the right combination of funny and educational. She's genuinely passionate about her job and holds so many office hours for students. Dr. Stirchak is by far the best prof for first-year chem at UBC. I would not have survived Chem 121 if it wasn't for her amazing lectures and office hours. While Chem121 is challenging and often structured in a way that sets students up to struggle, her supportive and student-focused approach made a meaningful difference in helping me succeed.

She is so wonderful that everyone can see, the best teacher in the whole chemistry department, even the best teacher I've ever met for my first year. If you're planning on taking chem121 and chem123 you'll regret it forever if you don't take her class! (Also, go to her office hour, u can make friends and enjoy the free stickers :)

Dr. Stirchak is an amazing professor, clearly explaining content and letting students know what they need to know for each exam. I know many students in other lectures came to her's instead as they were much easier to understand and follow. I found the content of CHEM123 to be a lot harder than 121, so make sure you do the practice provided!

Dr. Stirchak is hands down the BEST professor out there, no other profs come close to Stirchak. She is the most kind, caring, hilarious, amazing prof I've ever had in my 3 years at UBC. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her students and their success, and she always goes above and beyond to support us. TAKE HER OVER ANY OTHER PROF!!!

This best prof out there I miss her so much. The classes she teaches are not easy, but she makes it so enjoyable and a joy to show up everyday. Take advantage of her office hours (she also gives out stickers at them)! It's clear how much she cares and if you put in the effort you can do well.

Stirchack was the best. She has a deep knowledge and understanding of how to teach intro chem classes so that they make (at least SOME) sense. Also, I felt like she genuinely wanted her students to do well!! The problem set video answers literally saved my grade last year

Writing this review as im attending her office hours for the midterm tmr. Shes always available for help and more than happy to answer your questions until you understand. She is patient and even prolonged her hours to answer every single question the students have, instead of ending her office hours on time. She is funny and understanding! 10/10

one of the kindest humans to have as a prof. Cannot say enough good things about Dr. Stirchak. As overwhelming as this course is, she makes students feel supported and gives many resources. Greatly appreciated and Dr. Stirchak if you see this your work is greatly appreciated!!

CHEM 121 is a bit infamous but Prof. Stirchak is very fun and enthusiastic which makes the lectures awesome and engaging. She will try to accomodate you as much as possible. Awesome Prof. (Even at my current horrible grade)

Incredible prof. For a first year student, I was so scared of getting terrible profs and she made my experience so much better. She genuinely cares for her students and her teaching is amazing! WE LOVE YOU DR STIRCHAK!!

She is genuinely the best chemistry professor I have been to. She always goes overtime for her chemistry office hours (which are around 2-3 hours multiple times a week), and remembers everyone's name. If the material of Chem 121 was easier, I would persue chemistry for her.

Dr Stirchak has singlehandedly made me want to continue with chemistry. Her presence alone is so comforting, and she does everything in her power to make sure that her students have the most seamless experience possible. Go to office hours once and she'll remember your name. She cares so deeply about her students and their ability to succeed.

She is amazing and explains concepts in detail during lecture. Goes above and beyond for students by making her own worksheets, slides, and holding extra office hours. If you suck in this class the one thing you can't blame it on is her because she does everything she can to help students succeed. Her lectures are also hilarious.

I love Dr. Stirchak she is so funny and entertaining. She explains every concept very clearly and doesn't teach too fast. But I'm lowkey very stupid so although she is an amazing prof I still did really bad in this course because I just slacked off in the end…but definitely take her courses!

She never gave up on students when content got hard, which really fostered a supportive and strong learning environment. Super good resources, cared about the course and the students.

Best professor ive encountered so far in my first term at ubc. Super caring, kind, hilarious, and values you as a student and learner as compared to your final grade outcomes. Chemistry will never be the same without Dr. Stirchak. She goes above and beyond for her students (long office hours, amazing lectures, etc.) If I had to take Chem 121 a thousand times, I would choose Dr. Stirchak as my professor every single time.

This professor is unbelievably generous and caring. She holds sooo many office hours I start to feel bad and think she should take more time to herself. She always makes time to respond to any student and thoughtfully answers any question. Her teaching is also so good that many other students come sit in on her lectures. The room is ALWAYS full.

Taking CHEM 121 with Dr. Stirchak was an awesome experience! She was humorous, kind and cared for every single student in her class. Dr. Stirchak's pacing for CHEM 121 was a bit slow, but she goes over exercise questions which made the course concepts easier to understand. I recommend watching her answer videos and pepish talk before exams!

121 with Dr. Stirchak was an amazing experience. She makes her lectures engaging and is always available to answer student questions. In-class tests were very straightforward, and whether or not something is examinable is clearly identified. Pace was a bit slow compared to other sections but we managed to get through it. Best CHEM 121 prof at UBC

CHEM 123 is objectively difficult and more abstract than CHEM 121 but Dr. Stirchak does a good job explaining concepts and engaging the audience during lectures. Outside of class it is imperative to do practice problems to reinforce teachings. Dr. Stirchak is active online, helping students on Piazza, and applying students' feedback.

I really enjoyed chem 121 with Dr. Stirchak, her office hours were amazing and super helpful.

Best professor I've ever had. She was an amazing lecturer and would hold office hours over holidays to get students questions answered. I dont't think I've met a professor who cares more about seeing students succeed. Also a note for chem 121 in general: don't be discouraged about your 1st (or even 2nd) midterm mark, attend office hours and ask Qs!
