Great teacher! but doesn't go easy on you. If you work hard you'll learn a lot!
destroyed each paper i did even though i followed directions word for word
Good, very, very throrough, dont fall behind, and it is cake. Good insight.
very hard, unwilling to help
she is a very nice person and will help you if you ask...she is a hard teacher but fair
what was up with the difficulty? she said social studies courses were hard like her class, but none of the sociology or psychology was. i was really looking forward to taking history until 1 test was like writing 6 essays and doing all these ID's and
Plays favorites, if she likes you she'll help you, if she dosent, she'll make you feel dumb when you ask a question or talk to her
This is one of those if you want a good class that requires work well then take her class. If you want to breeze your way through college dont take her class. Also if you want to see what a 4 year school is like this is as close as you will get at essex
Professor Trauth is one of the best professor EVER! I absolutely loved her class! I'm not saying that her class is easy, on the contrary, her class is extremely difficult but if you pay attention, take notes, and study for the tests, you'll do fine!
Wow she really makes you and work hard but if you follow directions and advice you will understand History on a university level. her cousres and work prepare you for all other courses/subjects. Always seemed to have time for students.
if you are not comfortable with using the computer you WILL do bad in this class, she would do much better if she was teaching an online course
I HATE THE WOMAN!!
Worst class i ever took....watse of time and money. she was very unhelpful
she wasnt helpful at all- this class sucked....everyone except for like 10 ppl dropped it because it was miserable. not recommended
She isnt all that tough in my opinion, you just have to pay attention and read through the book and you'll do ok
Laura is the best professor I've ever had; she's enthusiastic and very clear. I've taken two of her classes and they are the closest to university level classes at CCBC. College is about learning, if you're not interested in studying, don't take her courses. If you're serious, it's well worth it!
Hated the class. Her game was useless and very unclear. Did not grade papers to college level. Exams were too easy, as was the whole class. knew what she was talking about, but did not know how to articulate it properly.
She was a great teacher
Laura is a great teacher, she makes you work but that is what college is about. People just complain because they are not used to that much work in a required course. I loved her class and she helped out so much. I took both her 101 and 102 and I would love to take more of her classes. She is great.
Best teacher I've ever had. You really have to work hard, but her exams/papers are very thought provoking and the skills you learn are useful in many other courses. For those people who are lazy, do not take this course, it's work but I learned so much. I Had to take 102! Highly Recommended!!!!!
Not a very fair teacher, leading up to exam 1 she said we would be allowed an index card full of notes, but cancled it the day before because some people can write smaller. Her tests are hard for the sake of being hard.
This professor is neurotic. The on-line course was poorly planned and sporadically organized. Material was dispersed all over the Internet, which took away from valuable "class" time. She's a snot, and annoying; at times condescending. It's a shame because the material *was* interesting, and the class could have been an excellent experience.
Shes very helpful, just study and read book and you'll do fine, like she says reading the book in her class is essential
VERY VERY VERY HARD CLASS. She is very unclear and whatever u take notes on in class wont help you for a test. She only uses the book, and picks very small information details to test you on, not big events to test ur reading skills
Both classes are difficult, but are wonderful and very detailed. She makes note taking simple and has a variety of ways to get help. She is also very willing to help you out in anyway. I think everyone should be excited about her classes, just be ready to work really hard and read the book. it will help tremendously.
This class is NOT hard, just VERY thorough! Get the Chapter Questions off the website for the Q&As, use the Chapter Vocab from the ThinkBook for tests and journals, mak an index card for the tests! Extra credit is usually very easy. Laura has a passion for History, you'll actually LEARN in this class. Highly reccomend. Essex needs more like her!

She is not hard at all, you may have to do alot of homework in her class, but if you do the homework you dont even have to study for the exam. I slept through alot of the class, and just cuz i did the homework, i got an A
Read her faculty page and try to read the book and the syllabus in advance. Don't try to take too many courses with Trauth's. The reading for 102 can be overwhelming at time. Other than that, Trauth is very passionate about history and you will walk away with a greater understanding of history
I took this course on line and had to withdraw. You CANNOT take this class and work at the same time. It is very overwhelming. Instructor is very thorough, but the coursework is for someone majoring in History. If you work or are taking other classes, you should NOT take this one. At least not on line.
Listen, This class is not for the faint of heart. Laura is a great professor, but there is a lot of work for the class. I took her history 101 and her Honors History 102 and loved them. Unlike most history classes that you don't get to all the material, she gets you there. If you are a history major/ love the subject you have to take Laura's class.
You never have to write essays, but you have to do a formal notetaking that is VERY time consuming, but it does make tests easier. She is an interesting teacher and is a bit quirky. It is a different style of working but I had to drop it because I couldn;t keep up with the reading. If you fall behind, you're screwed!
She expects every online student to live only history as if we are all history majors with no jobs or other classes. I had to withdraw because of her unrealistic expectations, and when I took the course with a different prof I got an A.
Do not take this class online, or take it with a different person (unless you are willing to LIVE history). She is unreasonably demanding, picky and difficult to deal with. I falied with her, but when I retook the class with a different teacher (same work load and info.) and earned an A...I think that alone says something about her teaching.
Very tough class...I worked very hard at it...I took it online. I was very very interested and worked very very hard. I earned that A. I also had to carry the team that I was in during the game. As a side note, I found her attractive in an unconventional hippie earth mother kinda way. :oD
Eccentric. Fast talking, but comprehensive command of subject matter. I failed the course, and I'll tell you why. I didn't do the homework, assignments, note-taking, or projects. The notes I took were good, but not organized enough to turn in. A damn huge amount of work- be willing to actually spend time earning your A. She's a good teacher.
She is very difficult, but she is really engaging and totally willing to help you out. I took her in an extremely fast 5 wk summer session and thoroughly enjoyed her class and got an A, no problem. If you are willing to work just a little, she's not that bad and you will get a lot out of the class. She truly loves History!
Her class requires alot of studying. Her tests are extremely hard and require the memorization or vast periods or western civilization. If you have a hard time remembering and then regurgitating information I wouldn't take her.
She's a good teacher. You learn what you need to, and will sometimes talk about interesting this. Shows videos, and alot of picures. I'm not into slideshows, but thats her style. You will have to read, but its college! If you want a good teacher, shes great.
Incredibly eccentric. Lingers on insignificant things, such as finding a picture of a page from a medieval coroner's report and talking about it for 10 minutes. Needs to learn to manage class time better. Don't mention to her that some of the things on the study sheets aren't in the book unless you want a lecture on how to Google. Boring.
Laura was a great teacher. What people do not realize about her is the fact that you have to work hard in her class. If you work hard and get along with her its an easy A. If you don't, well then, its an easy D.
The class was a disaster. She required you to use two faulty online systems to pass, and at any given week at least one wasn't working. If you couldn't turn in your paper due to the site being down it was still your fault, and more like this. Retook class and still had same problems, less than 5% got above a C. Would not recommend.
Ok, pretty nice gives a lot of quizzes almost every week
She truly loves history, very willing to help students out. I really enjoyed her class, however, you will have to read alot.
This class was so horrible. Its impossible to learn every single minute detail about every person. The review sheet I have in front of me has 164 terms that I need to know which is ridiculous. I understand she's trying to make it fun, but all these quizzes are killing me. I'm not a fan of the book either.
This class was very hard, but is to be expected for college level history. If you take this course, it is A LOT of reading, but she gives you fair warning. If you do your reading and research you will get a good grade. Don't take this class and expect to slack off. She's definitely helpful if you're confused, and she's overall a good professor.
Very friendly, very willing to help. Come to class at Towson early, and she will help you. Take a class with Dr. Trauth!!!
Proff. trauth is an interesting person. she tells you things most teachers don't tell you about history, unfortunately that is not on the test. READ THE BOOK!! and she gives out 50pts of extra credit. do it and you'll pass
I took this class as an elective. I never had an interest for history. I was overwhelmed the first day of this class but it changed. She was the best history teacher and so interesting! All she did was talk and i loved listening to her. She is intelligent, helpful, understand and the work is easy. The best teacher i ever had in college!
Entering Prof. Trauth's class I was excited as I've always enjoyed history. That quickly changed. This is by far my worst professor at CCBC. She is disorganized, avoids being helpful, doesn't respond to questions, and teaches her class in a lazy manner. AVOID TAKING A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!
I took a 4 week Winter class. She sets expectations at the beginning of the class. 3 units of 5 chapters each. Alot of reading from text/research. Unit quiz and 4 assignments per unit, then test. Is difficult if you don't prepare for the work. Allows a 3x5 card for all tests. She requires attendence to orientation even with online course.
Read your book and stay on track with the calender she gives so you don't fall behind. This class is a lot of work and the exams are hard if you don't study the material. I took the online course and was required to show up for orientation to get points. She warns you at the beginning of class that it's not an easy A. BUT, she is there to help.
Worst class that I have ever taken. It was for the winter class. She was barely online when I asked questions.
Took her online class. I read horror stories on here, but she's a great teacher and you learn quite a bit. Just keep up with the reading and do the posting assignments. If you do that plus the extra credit (plenty available), you can practically fail the exams and still get an A. It's a lot of work (welcome to college), but it's not hard.
Took her class at ccbc. A lot of tedious work, but very easy once you get the hang of how she teaches. I didn't even take notes, I just made note cards with the terms she gives and studied them and got A's and B's on all the tests. Not hard, just a lot of work.
Extremely nice person. She is willing to help most of the time unless she is repeating herself. Her work load is herendous and if you are not a history major, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The tests and quizes are 95% straight from the book. One chapter a week (app 40 pages) followed by a quiz. The tests are mainly written response and require much knowle
Winter 2012: 3 week semester and tested on all 15 chapters of the book AND had lots of other things to do. Very good class BUT requires you to be extremely dedicated. I love Dr. Trauth, she is a fantastic professor but NOT an easy grade. Gives lots of extra credit and you'll need it.
History of Disease- I loved every second of this class! We didn't have one true/false or mult. choice question the entire semester. EVERY assignment requires essays and short answers. She is such a great person and professor, but if you're a bonehead or are looking for an easy grade then she isn't for you. I love Dr. Trauth; she is best professor!!
Excellent teacher. Extremely helpful, always available to talk. work/assignments explained clearly. Lots os xtra credit and opportunity to do well.
Makes you think outside the box, but if you do the work, there is no way to fail this class. Great Teacher!!!
Took her from History of Disease as an elective. Great decision. Fun class yet you learn a lot.
I took American History online. It was a winter semester and very accelerated. While it was a lot of work, there was TONS of extra credit. She would always reply to questions (via email) very quickly and I truly enjoyed the class.
Though she gives lots of work, she also gives you LOTS of extra credit. If you do the work, it is impossible to fail this class. She give many different ways to reach her. GREAT PROFESSOR!!!
IMHO, many misinterpret Laura. I wish she would have clued us in more that she runs a fast paced class and covers a lot of information. Once I realized this for myself, I was able to understand fully what was expected of me. She is passionate, knowledgeable, and fun, but you better be on top of your reading.
The greatest professor I've had in college; I took two courses with her and both were great. I learned a lot and she is always willing to help out.
Never take her class lot of stuff unless you have a lot of free time you, otherwise you will fail
Work hard and you will pass.
TERRIBLE don't take her class. She thinks because she doesn't have a life you shouldn't either. She gives a lot of extra credit but its tedious for minimal points. TONS of work. She's a nerd. Dresses and looks like a hobo. Looking at her just distracted me from the class and made me mad. Everything is her way or the highway.
very helpful if you need help
She's a great teacher. There is a lot of information to learn but she is eager to help and offers a lot of extra credit. So far she is my favorite professor and I will take one of her classes again. She is very fair.
Awesome teacher. Very available and clearly loves her subject. I enjoyed this class immensely.
Wonderful online class.
Makes the class very interesting. By far my favorite professor!
You have to memorize over 100 terms for each exam, and you need to be able to compare and contrast 2 of those terms. Also you won't know which terms will be on the exam. She took off 2 points on my lab because I didn't have it stapled. The only good thing about her class is you play classcraft and she gives extra credit. That's it.
The amount of information in the beginning section is overwhelming. This class is a lot of work. That being said, I think she is a wonderful teacher. You can tell she really cares. She brings life to a boring subject. I enjoyed her class but it was frustrating that I had to dedicate so much time towards a class that had nothing to do with my major.
This is an awful teacher i love history. But classcraft is a joke and all the labs and time travels are bogus. Plus her mindtap assignments are pointless her test you can forget about it. Leave while you still have a chance
She was an awesome professor and was very helpful. History contains a lot of content but she made is interesting and easy. I would love to have her as a professor again.
One of the best profs you can get! Very intelligent and the lectures are great! It's a lot of work, but I loved every minute of it. Do yourself a favor and ignore the bad reviews and take a class with her. You will be so glad you did!
I have taken two of her independent studies, Paleography and this one, History of Disease and they were great. She genuinely cares about students and their success. I highly recommend her, especially if history is your passion. It's a lot of reading, but an interesting subject . Professor Trauth is by far my favorite Professor.
I've taken many teachers before who just weren't good, but overall this was the worst teacher I've ever taken. I understand it's a winter class but the amount of things to memorize for her ridiculously hard tests are impossible. All of the extra assignments are pointless and don't help with tests. I would steer clear from this teacher if you can.
Took this online, spring semester. Tons of reading and assignments every week. The frustrating thing was that the assignments didn't usually relate to content covered on the exams, so they were an unnecessary distraction. Classcraft was really annoying. Tons of extra credit. If you work hard, you can get an A.
She requires a lot of reading and online assignments which don't really relate to the content on quizzes/exams. Make sure you're in class everyday, after 3 absences she takes off 25 points. While the class is difficult, it's close to impossible to fail if you apply yourself, since she gives ample opportunity to make it up with extra credit.
Lovely and creative individual.
At first her class is super discouraging, but there is absolutely no way that you CAN'T pass so long as you're doing the weekly homeworks and showing up to class. Tons of extra credit so there is almost no reason to not get a B if you show up and at least show some initiative. I really like Ms. Trauth - she was an awesome lady.
I am only 3 days into the course and I already hate it. I am taking her online class and it is the most bs thing I have ever done. She gives WAY to many extra assignments that are pointless and relate nothing to the class. It is a waste of my time and takes time away from studying. The chapters are extremely long and take forever to read.
Awesome teacher, not going to say the class was super easy, but if she sees that you're participating daily and actually trying, you'll pass the class. Easy A for me, and I'm awful at history. She gives a lot of extra credit, so take advantage of it!
I am HORRIBLE at history and this was my first online class. But this was also the easiest class I have taken. As long as you log in daily and do the work, you will get an A. I received an A and I did not even take the final exam or any of the last week homework. SOO EASY, just do the work!
Three weeks in and already it is the worst course I've taken. The professor makes it so convoluted and full of garbage assignments that not only require you to log in every single day, but also have nothing to do with the course. I miss the old days of reading the material and taking exams. AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you can (I couldn't).
The LAMEST history class I have ever taken in my life. Every single assignment is IRRELEVENT to anything in the textbook. MindTap quizzes are waste of time. Her tests reviews are very UNREALISTIC. Gives 100 terms to memorize, plus map and cluster IDs. Everything is useless and unrelated to history except MinTap and exams.
She's great. Meet woth her and you'll succeed.
She was a easy teacher for me. Lots of work but gave lots of extra credit and chances to re-do.
Horrible class don't take u want time off and u have to play game is so boring
she is ready to work with you as long as you do the work and effort. its a lot of reading though, but keep up and do the extra credits.
Trauth ruined my favorite subject in school for me. She has no idea how to run or operate an online course and gives students more work about things that irrelevant to the subject than things that are actually history related. I'm taking 3 other classes right now that are easier to handle than her 1 class alone. TERRIBLE TEACHER
A VERY GOOD PROFESSOR. I do not like history at all and she made it so easy for me. SUCH AN EASY A. Lots of extra credit, I didnt even take a final and passed with 117% grade A. Trust me when I say LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT
Laura was a great teacher IMO. She always answered my questions the same day and she gives SOOOO much extra credit, it's almost impossible to fail. She lets you revise exams and gives you a clear study guide for each test. Best history class I've ever taken.
I took her online and yes, everything seems daunting, but I failed every test and still got an A. She gives an ENORMOUS amount of extra credit and always answered my questions immediately. You'll have to do some work, but it's not hard work. If you just want to skate by without doing anything, don't take her.
Took her online over the summer. Class was a lot of work but she made it manageable and was very helpful. She obviously loves history and wants her students to have as much fun in the class as possible. She gives opportunities to earn note usage, which is great.
This class was ROUGH. I took it over the summer as a 5 week course. She has a lot of assignments and things that are unnecessary imo. Dont take her if you dont have to. On the plus side she does offer lots of extra credit. This is a class thats gonna make you do work. If you want to relax dont take this class lol.
The use of Blackboard is convoluted and feels intentionally confusing.
Laura's class was a lot. Tests were more difficult than most other courses, but she offers tons of extra credit -- you have to work for it, though. I was annoyed at first because there were lots of unnecessary assignments but she's very nice, cares about your grade, and I did actually learn a lot. Be prepared to read A LOT or do ALL the extra cr.
For the 4 HIS101 exam study guides you have to identify 140 people in the chapters and why they are significant. Her blackboard set up is very confusing. She posted an hour video explaining it and you will have to watch it over and over. Instructions for assignments are "make sure you do this, dont do this, but do this, without doing that...."
Don't take her if you don't have to. I shed a couple of tears taking her class. Lots of work, reading, and you also have to play a weird game in-class to earn note privilege. She does give extra credit which is nice. There is too much going on in this course.
She is a very picky grader. She assigns a lot of irrelevant content. Her tests are very difficult and she does not prepare you fully for the written part of the test. For the exam study guides she wants you to memorize over 100 terms. There is a lot of extra credit. However the extra credit does not give you a lot of added points.
This teacher was the worst I've had in my college career, not only does she have a silly little game you need to play, but she also assigns homework for nearly every day along with discussion posts, reading textbooks, and recording myself speak for some reason?? overall bad experience.
Took this as a 5 week summer course. Easy online class if you do the work and the extra credit. You could literally get a 25/50 on an exam but if you did the extra credit for each unit it would be around a 50/50. If you don't do the extra credit then its your problem.
Her professional is is awful. She hardly keeps us up to date on what's do every week and she doesn't have a due date reminder system for our assignments. She expects us to check what's due on our own and has the classcraft game thing to extend our due dates if we miss them.
I am a 4.0 GPA student with an A in every subject but this class is driving me CRAZY. I feel like even if I give my 100%, I'm stressed. I feel like even an A will be not good enough considering all the efforts we have to put in for this class. We need an A, plus a trophy, plus a record in Guinness, plus therapy.
While I am doing just fine in this course, the class itself is strangely set up. If you need this course for the credit, take it. If not, I would seriously not recommend. The course load is extremely heavy and quite difficult to keep up with on every week. Extra credit will save you in this course. If you do it, you are guaranteed a decent grade.
It'd be nice if she read this and took away some feedback. The class is way too convoluted and set up like some kind of confusing party game than a class. There's too much going on and I'm not saying it needs to be just chapter, discussion, quiz, test every week. But the way it's set up now is way too much and for not much benefit.
