Instead of book work there was handouts, and instead of notes we got worksheets to learn off of. Teacher was not very helpful and should reconsider teaching plan.
The worksheets she makes are 100X better than the book. Tests are in same form as worksheets, I can't think of one negative thing to say about her.
Worksheets make the lessons easier to follow and understand. Her explaination of material is outstanding. She is always willing to make herself available to her students. Take-home assignments correspond with the days lesson and homework. She is Great!
best math teacher.. she is verry example oriented, gives step by step instructions which are easy to follow. she works out the examples more than once so you can see the process enough times to get it down. A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+ Teacher
She is a great teacher. I have taken her twice. She is really cool but both semesters she had 1 bad day when she flipped out on someone who was giving her a hard time.I recomend her.
Great teacher! uses alot of worksheets, which are easy to use and study from. One of the best MATH teachers I have ever had.
Mrs. Trefrey is the absolute best teacher I have ever had. She is clear, precise, and really nice. But don't disrespect her she will put you in your place. She is wonderful, all her tests come stragiht from her notes. I highly recommend her!!!!!!!!!
Very Clear instruction. Easy to follow and learn from. I highly recommend this instructor.
her class is very easy because she doesnt teach fromt he book instead she uses worksheets and. Her test are straight from those. She gives extra points if youre not absent also and they are used towards test. Cool teacher
If you've never understood math, she's the teacher to take. I've never understood algebra until now! Take Trefry you will understand algebra w/her handouts and notes.
She helped me to understand math in 6 weeks. I wish she taught the other classes I need. I kept her handouts and use them as a resource a lot. I even make copies for friends who are in crummy math classes. Take her and don't miss class. She gives extra credit for that.
Great teaching styles. Makes it really easy for you to understand, and helps you when you don't quite understand things.
very good teacher, explains things very clearly, there hasnt been one thing that I havent understood,
Mrs. Trefrey is the absolute best teacher I've ever had. If you want a professor that cares and that really explains things to you she is the one. I highly recommend her. Turn around time for returing tests is less than a week. Class highly passable.
She is the B in the word B*tCh. I had appendicitis and was hospitalized for a week so I missed class 3 times. She did not accept my late work, turned down my Dr.'s note, and did not show any sympathy for my surgery.Made me take a test the next week knowing i was unprepared.I failed the class b/c of her
I see all these good comments and I wonder which Prof.Trefry you had? This semester, she seemed frazzled with her kids, etc. No help.If you have any reason to miss class, she will still penalize you.Not understanding that there is life outside of math.No makeups!!!!!!!!
this teacher is the meanest B**ch in the world!i watch her drop students from her cumputer in her office at the end of the semester and when i tried to get her to drop me with "W" she acted as if she did not know what i was talking about. That is inconsistent as a fair prof. something she is not!
If you want a teacher to understand there being a life outside of school, don't take her.that is all i can say.
plzz she is a b.. she is mean, she shoudn't be teaching in the first place. she is not helpful at all, and constatnly bz with her kids instead of the students.... so my advise to you, if u happened to take her drop her class immediately, and if ur planning DON'TTTTTT!!!!! save ur self from a horribl
Pro Trefry was awesome! I highly recommend anyone who doesn't fully understand algebra to take her! She is very helpful and very clear about the lessons. She gives extra credit on tests if you don't miss class (enough so that I got A's!) and if you're there everyday, there is no way you will fail this class. Only bad thing: she does group labs...
EXCELLENY TEACHER!i took her last semester and she was very helpful.shes always willing to help u out and explains things very well.she gives u a handout for every lesson so u have stuff to look over b4 u take a test.she is very flexible as long as u keep her up 2 date.
This teacher is horrible!! :( I cant believe she still has a job! She is not clear, does NOT explain crab to you and if you have her online, DROP IT WHILE YOU CAN! She gives assignments and NO explanations! Unless you already know Algebra well and this class is a review you WILL NOT MAKE IT through her class!!
She is terrible, she does not explain anything at all
She's not helpful and very rude did I forget sarcastic. Don't take her online class she wont help you at all. She has a funky way of how she wants her assigments turned in and its really annoying because she wont give credit if its not done the way that she wants it. I dont reccomend her online class at all.
she is a really good teacher. I took intermediate algebra in fall A 2005, and i recomend her.
Happy math teachers are hard to find. Prof. Trefrey is great. If you don't like math, and you don't want to be miserable while you take it, take her. It's still math, you'll still have to do the work, but she is very clear, very willing to help students, and generally quite cheery. Highly recomended.
She was very clear, and made the class easy. She was very happy too.
Trefry is one of those teachers that is always smiling. She makes math fun. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. She gives you 5 points added to each test just for showing up to class. High reccomend her!
On line classes are usually more involved and intense as a standard. Ms. Trefrey was unorganized in her assignements and was actually unavailable for an entire week due to her vacation. Dates, pages assigned and even some answers were wrong. It's as if she used last semester's material and didn't change/update it. Not interested in taking her again
Very Happy teacher but the worst you can find!!! Goes over material too fast, doesn't help when students need it. Didn't understand one thing she taught!!! WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!
She is a very nice lady. But she makes the class easy. TOO EASY! it made me want to fall asleep. She acts like you didn't go to high school at all. She thinks you are an idiot in math and goes VERY VERY slow throughout the course. No challenge at all. I got an A without even trying...you learn all this stuff in 8th grade!! EASY CLASS
she is very nice and is always smiling her work is so easy and she does not give alot. she is very easy to understand
I took her class online over the summer one semester. Online classes for math are just going to be harder. Granted, I failed the class, it was my own fault. She was very nice when I had to go to campus and take a test.
overall i like her!
I took this class online, and if you like teaching yourself how to do EVERYTHING... this is perfect for you. Sure, you get 2 chances to take your quizzes, but there are no lecture notes or presentations to watch. I'm barely making a "B" because all I do is teach myself everything.
Man this teacher is TERRIBLE. Lectures over material to quickly. Doesn't help if u need it. TONS of work due to WebCT. All she cares about is getting in and getting out. If ur not a math wiz, DO NOT TAKE HER.
I am a single parent working, going to school and pregnant again. She was very understanding and if I needed extra help she was there. I loved her class although my friends hated it. If your not so good in math and need it broken down like a high schooler then she is the one.
Goes a little too fast through material, sometimes not clear on how to work problems. She does help a lot if you need it, but sometimes shes hard to comprehend.
unorganized, doesnt care attitude, doesn't communicate well and when she does it is unpleasant and unhelpful. It was online no notes you basically have to teach your self and dont expect any!!! help from her.
she is nice as a person but she goes over the materials too fast which is easy for few students who are math experts but not for students like me who needs some help. If u are good in math then go for it but if not plz do take someone else who will devote some time on teaching actually.
She is kind of boring. Moves fairly fast, not extremely helpful but will answer questions. Reviews ANY questions you have the day before test. Gives 5 points extra credit on test if you have attended every class. Don't be late it gets on her nerves. If you are good at math take her. She gives a lesson packet for each day and goes over it with you.
Mrs. Trefry was a GREAT math teacher. She relates to everyone really well and explains things clearly. Im HORRIBLE at math, but she passes out packets and goes through everything with you. I plan to take her again.
horrible!!!! Very poor communication skills and condescending attitude.
Good teacher overall, she prints out lessons for you to work along with her in class so you don't have to take notes which was nice. Pretty easy and helpful I would take her agian if I could
horrible!!!! Very poor communication skills and condescending attitude.
Not very good at teaching.
NOT A FAN! She knows her stuff when it comes to math but she just always seems so irritated - especially when someone would ask her a question. Made me not ask for help as much as I needed it. I would not take her again. Seems like she just cares about getting in and getting out....doesnt seem to ENJOY teaching.
TAKE HER! I have such a hard time with math and she is so helpful. Take advantage of her office hours she will practically give you the answers for your labs. She assigns labs and homework each week, 3 tests. She gives 5 extra credit points on test for attendance. She is a real nice lady and a great teacher.
I have a hard time understanding math sometimes and she made it so easy for me. She gives you a lab and a homework assignment due every week (you get about a week or more to do each) and those help you prepare for the tests. She's very good at explaining things and will always go back over material you don't understand. Take her class!
TAKE HER! She is EXTREMELY helpful! There are 3 tests and a cumulative final. She gives at a lab and homework assignment once a week. Its a lot of work, but what do you expect? Go to her office and she will practically give you the answers on the labs. She is SO SWEET. I hate math and Im terrible at it, but I will get a B+ because of her.
get teacher!! she take her time to really break things done giving you the chance to really understand!!!
She was very rude to me, and wasn't helpful(rushed me out of her office during office hours, etc). and She's unprofessional (comes to work sloppy). So if you want a professor who doesn't discriminate, shes not for you.
Doesn't like to answer questions. also is confusing person
I like her. I had not taken a math class in 20 years. I took this course online and was very nervous. I got an a. Laura was very quick to respond to questions.
she gives you a handout for pretty much every class, but you do alot of hw, inclass assignments, and labs, and quizes that are only 15 percent of your grade. but i guess that what you need is alot of practice for this type of class so it worked out ok, not an awful teacher, but not the greatest.
I am currently in her MAC1105 class and I have an A. Never happened! She gives handouts and makes it easy to comprehend and follow. I actually get this stuff the way she teaches. I also like using MyMathLab. She is very quick to respond to emails when you have a question as well. If you arent a math person I recommend taking her.
As a Math teacher with some former students in her class, I elected to sit in and "take a class" unannounced. I would not take her. She had ME shaking my head. Thankfully, I know the material. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Does not answer e-mails. I did not see her as helpful at all.
Not helpful. all the Homework is done online and it SUCKS and you have to get an 80 on your homework to start a quiz. Tests are fairly easy if you go to class. She is rather annoying and gets pissed when your late.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. You can ace all the homework and quizzes and still manage to fail her test because the test will be totally different than anything you have studied. She seems to think that MyMathLab is not good enough and tries to construct her own version though countless instructor created questions.
BEWARE, The class starts out easy it seems until you are past the point of being able to drop. You will sit through hours of videos that may or may not play, very user unfriendly. A ten question quiz? B.S.there will be eight to ten answers for each question. The same goes for her tests. Would not recommend her. Passable but GPA lowering......
i am currently in her class and an older student. i get math pretty easy when it is taught to me... not for me to teach myself. she isn't very helpful at ALL! and makes up her own questions on MyMathLab. and she will NOT budge on questions that are in dispute even if she didn't teach it in class and more so that she herself can't even workout!
Super nice and give you five extra credit points on every test all you have to do it attend class. The labs are slightly hard but she drops a lot of homework and quizzes. Highly recommend her.
Terrible! If you aren't strong in math do NOT take her. She isn't helpful, attitude that "you should already know the material". Doesn't teach, just tells you to try and figure it out through class assignments. She ONLY uses MyMathLab for homework and quizzes, which is very annoying and not even worth much credit for your final grade. Waste of time
horrible. do not take.
BEST TEACHER EVA
I am not a math person, so the class was naturally hard for me. I took her online class, but she was so incredibly helpful! Before the final, I had a C+. I never expected to do that well. If you have questions, she will go above and beyond just answering them. This is the teacher to have if you don't understand math and need extra help!
so HELPFUL! i hattttte math, and she made it easy and fun to learn. you can earn extra credit for each test and there is hardly any homework. deff recommend her!
She is a very helpful instructor that is always willing to give extra help outside of class. I never struggled with math until College Algebra but she made a hard task possible with good teaching and a willingness to explain the topics in the course.
Easy class. Tests are easy if you study for an hour. Thats all you need. Show up and study review tests are almost the same. EASY A
She is an awesome professor. She is very helpful and homework is optional but she does give worksheets and partner work all semester which really helps build grade. I would reccomend taking her to anyone she made precalc really easy.
Go to class and do the assignments and you should have no problem getting an A. She explains everything very thoroughly. Definitely take her!
Make sure to attend all classes or you're screwed. Her class is not the easiest but she cares about her students. She wants to see everyone pass and will help you whenever you need it. Catch her after class or in her office and she will try to answer your questions to her best ability.
She is a very helpful teacher. She will stay after class to work with u. She hates when students come to class a minute late and talking during class. She is a great teacher with lots of assignments. Perfect Attendance is 5 bonus points on the test.
Her class is not the easiest, but if you keep up with the work and can teach yourself you will do fine. This is a online class and you should be able to teach yourself. She lays it out pretty well before the class starts. The test come from the labs so study them. I think I looked something up in the book one time.
I got a D in her class but I was passing the entire semester until the last 2 weeks. You have to study A LOT for the tests and show up to class. It's not TOO hard, but it isn't easy either. If I would have tried just a little harder I could have passed. She's a great teacher though, she did help out a lot and she's very very sweet
Awesome teacher. If you need help, she'll sit down with you an walk you through exactly what you need. I highly recommend taking her if you struggle in math, she'll do all she can to help you out. Great teacher overall.
Trefry is extremely thorough in lectures, has plenty of office hours, and is more than willing to help. Perfect attendance between exams will ensure 5 bonus points on each. Take-home labs are due weekly and there are a ton of MyMathLab assignments -she drops a few low scores. Exams are a little tough, but studying labs and class notes got me an A.
Strives to help you understand content, very nice lady. Nervous about online math, but overall not so bad. MyMathLab offers unlimited practice and breaks down problems to help when you get stuck. Group labs due once a week (also not as bad as I thought), same with HW. 4 exams come from labs/HW. Practice tests before exam with unlimited attempts.
I would not say that the class is hard. The instructions are clear and mymathlab is all you need for the class. I took this class online and I felt that she puts in a great deal of effort to make sure the student has an abundance of resources. Probably the best you will get when it comes to an online course. I would recommend her.
I highly recommend this professor. I took her online class and found it very organized. College algebra is not easy but the program is set up to help you along the way. Must be dedicated to do this online but if not I would recommend to take Prof. Trefry's class on campus. She is very helpful!
Perfect attendance assures you 5 extra credit points on each test! Very particular on homework assignments. Great teacher overall.
I took this class online and it was awesome. You have to keep up with the video lectures and handouts that explain how to do the problems, they are very helpful and straightforward. Professor Trefry is really nice and answers emails quickly. I would definitely recommend her for College Algebra :)
She is an amazing teacher. If you are going to be taking a math class at this campus then she is my top choice. She is very helpful and teaches everything in a understandable way.
States in her syllabus, "you will be teaching yourself this material." The class requires 6-8 hours of studying weekly (outside of lectures, which are 45 minutes long), including homework, quizzes, and "labwork" done with others remotely. Practice tests bear absolutely no resemblance to the actual tests, which are almost half your final grade.
Here's the thing, her notes are great, but as an online teacher she sucks. It's never really clear what you should study. She says one thing, but then the test and final are different from what's actually being taught. I don't understand. I was so close to passing turning in all the assignments, labs, quzzies and show me. Hardest and confusing math
Mrs. Trefry is a pretty good teacher. If you attend every class she will give you 5 extra credit points on tests so that helped me a lot. She explains everything and she is a fair grader. The only thing I don't like about this course is you can't use a calculator on tests or the final so if you like using a calculator don't take this course.
Profesor Trefry is a nice person but is not a very good teacher. She is unclear as to when things are due and does not help you when you ask. Granted it says the course is your responsibly to teach to yourself, she does not answer any questions you have. None of the work corresponds, and the text isn't helpful either. I do not recommend her.
Get ready for 100+ HW problems EVERY night Also she makes you write the entire question, use pencil highlight answer, and skip lines, and if you don't , she takes off major points. She also miswrites tons of stuff on the board which is confusing. The HW is nothing but busy work. I spent at least 3 hrs per HW . DONT TAKE HER, biggest waste of time.
This class is not for anyone who struggles with math, specially algebra. If that is the case, take an in-class course. But overall, good online course. She sets up the same assignments each week so students can keep up. Study for tests and know the material and you should do great! Know how to use google docs and work in online groups.
I loved Mrs. Trefry! She was extremely nice and helpful. She provides weekly lectures (with powerpoints) to help you. I never opened my book. Everything is done through My Math Lab and you are required to do a weekly group lab, along with a personal lab. Be sure to study! I definitely recommend Mrs. Trefry.
Basically, the tests will determine what grade you will receive in this class. All the homework assignments and quizzes that are given aren't worth much. she's a very hard grader on top of that. So if you aren't great at taking test , I wouldn't recommend you take this class.
All homework is from the book, you have to write the entire problem (word to word) then work out the problem. Sometimes homework can be long 100+ word problems, if you miss a few details your grade will drop drastically. She gets confused constantly in class and gives the wrong answers on the board when teaching which is confusing. Not clear at all
Trefry is awesome! She gives a ton of homework, but I'm actually thankful for that because it helped me understand the material better. She explains everything well, and always makes sure the class understands before moving on. If you have perfect attendance, she adds 5 extra points to each test grade. Normally I hate math, but I liked this class.
Professor Trefry is extremely nice and helpful. Her class is taught thru my math lab however she does provide weekly power point lectures over the weeks material. There is also a weekly personal lab and a weekly group lab. Your test scores make up a lot of your grade.
Trefry is an amazing professor! She is very kind and 100% willing to help you and make sure you understand. She doesn't move too fast and she gives plenty of examples. The tests are very straight forward if you understand the material. She gives 5 points extra credit every test if you show up to class every day. I absolutely recommend her!
This was the easiest class I have ever taken. Only complaint is that the homework takes extremely long, she makes you write out the problem/question every single time and if you miss class, you cannot turn in late assignments. Otherwise, very easy A (for most people).
Mrs. Trefry was very nice, for the tests you should know that they are based on the labs and "showme's", looking at her lectures (at least the practice problems) was a life saver. Practice tests/quizzes don't really resemble the tests, but still helpful. Her tests resembled the final so make sure you study HER tests and not the online practice ones
Gives a lot of hw which you have to copy word for word but it really helps you understand the material better! You also will need a packet that contains class assignments and the test reviews. If you study the test reviews, you'll pass the test! Extremely helpful but don't miss class, you'll get lost quick if you do.
Easy class, a lot of homework. Drops 3 of your lowest grades on homework/classwork. Does not drop tests.
Professor Trefry was great. I have never been a good student when it comes to math but she is a awesome professor. Show up to class and do your homework and you're good to go. She replaces your lowest test grade with the final and drops your lowest three assignments. I was beyond thankful for her this semester!!
Taking her was a fair but hard class. What bothered me, is that her online videos are bad to listen to and have actual mistakes in it, which for me as the student is confusing and hard to figure out (as I am trying to learn it the right way). Without the MathLab offered by my college I would have not passed this class!!!
Lots and lots of labs which you are REQUIRED to do with a partner and gives you no time to do in class. Tons of homework online. Must turn in labs that day, and if your partner has the lab and doesn't show up that day you also get the zero. Exactly like a high school class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MATH, YOU WILL NOT PASS. Most professors will be willing to help you if you come to them at the beginning of the semester with your concerns. This professor DOES NOT CARE about her students! The homework does not match the exams. Tough grader, horrible lecturer. Absolute worst math professor at SF.
TAKEN ONLINE. I'd only recommend Trefry if you're comfortable teaching yourself. She's not terrible by any means, and workload isn't excessive, but her lectures consist of regurgitated technical definitions from the text without any attempt on her part to put the concepts into real-world terms for her students. Would not take again.
This class was great. She explains things well and will help you if you need it by going around after lecture. There is a ton of home work but it isn't worth many points if you miss some. Test contain same stuff we learned in class and isn't difficult if you come to class and pay attention.
Definitely one of the best professors I've had thus far. Her exams are everything you learned in class so it's nothing that's different, there's a lot of packets she gives us to work on but they're extremely helpful to help you better understand the material.
The only bad thing about her class was the online program she used for homework, it had many errors in the coding and did not state most questions clearly. She was a great teacher and made the class much easier than anticipated.
Your weighted average is composed of 30% weekly homework, 45% three tests, 25% final exam. Five hw assignments due per week can be a lot, but if you complete to 100% and understand it, you will get As on the tests. with mathlab help, i barely had to look at lessons, didnt use the book once. If you put the effort every week, you can easily get an A.
Professor Trefry's a great professor. I would take her class again. The class was easy, but you would have write everything out the textbook word for word. If you didn't understand something or struggled with a math problem, just go to her office during her office hours and she will help you. first come first serve.
Professor Trefry was a really good professor, she was really helpful when you were unsure about a problem. She seems to really care. I WOULD recommend you take her.
By far the best online class I've ever taken. I was hesitant to take a online math course, but professor Trefry made it easy. She posts all the notes needed online, lecture videos, & example problems. She gives multiple extra credit questions on exams. I was able to make like a 108 in this course, & I am not a math person! Take her for Algebra!!!
She sends a lot of class assignments and labs that are really hard to do because she explain the stuff very fast and it really hard to understand her. I think that she has preferences with some students because she sometimes avoids to explain you when you are confused.
Amazing Lectures. If you know how to add and subtract, you´ll be fine.
Professor Trefry was one of the best math professors I have had. She is amazing and teaches very well. I went to her many times during office hours and she was always willing to help. Her tests and finals are exactly like the practice examples she does in class. Labs can be challenging, but they are helpful when trying to grasp a topic.
THE WORST TEACHER I have ever had in my entire college career. I am a Chem major A/B student, and I am STRUGGLING with her. She is rude and lazy, frequently does problems wrong on the board, her tests are poorly made, and you're forced to work with a partner the ENTIRE semester - so your grade is not entirely your own. 0/10 would NOT reccommend.
Math is already a difficult subject for me, Mrs. Trefrey barely explains how to get from A to B. She will begin class writing a few things on the board, going quickly over a problem, then hands you a packet and tells to you work on it with a partner. Test are very difficult with no guide, must remember all formulas. all test based grades
I took Pre-Calc with Professor Trefry and although it was a hard class, she provided a lot to help us. She is very organized and even created her own lesson notes for you. The questions on the tests are of no surprise because they are almost exactly like the practice problems. The only thing is this class is fast paced and the tests are long.
Taking Prof. Trefry was a solid experience. There is a good amount of homework, so be prepared. There were some times in class when I was confused, but she's more than willing to explain if you ask. If you attend all classes between one test and the next, you get an extra 5 points added onto your score which which was a life saver.
This professor is ok. Lectures aren't great, aren't terrible. There is A LOT of homework, so be prepared for that. She also has you work with a group/partner A LOT, so it's best to take this class with a friend if you can. There are review packets before each test which are helpful. If you do the work in this class you'll be fine; just be prepared.
She is such an awful professor! She wont help you if you are struggling, and makes you feel dumb when you ask for help. I had to withdraw from her class because she refused to guide me.
I would advise anyone who wants to pass not to take this professor. She is a super tough grader and gives loads of work for you to do outside. The homework, class work, and labs she gives barely match up to what she teaches in class. While teaching in class she goes over everything super fast so its hard to understand what is actually going on.
Gives you no class days between test 4 and the final. You practically get ready for the final and all the tests by yourself. No study guides just one quiz online before the test that's supposed to get you ready for them. They don't. The tests barely cover what's taught in class. You pretty much teach yourself the material and hope for the best.
She's a really nice person but a not so great teacher. I would ask her for help because I was struggling and she told me "you'll figure it out, you're smart" and then left. I struggled the whole semester because she would never help me and her grading was inconsistent. I would not recommend this class. The extra 5% on tests for attendance was nice.
Not a terrible class just way too much work than what is needed to understand the info. She is not very empathetic either so when it comes to helping students she rushes everything. Tests are super long and usually require a lot of studying in order to do well.
I loved Trefry as my PreCalc professor. I know some of the students in my class felt as that she was rude, but she didnt rub me that way at all. Trefry was always accessible during office hours and willing to help if you came with questions. 9/10 would reccomend this professor
There are 4 tests and a final. The material is taught very fast because there is way too much to fit in the time. she never answered any question in class. the only extra credit you get is 5 points on a test if you have perfect attendance. DONT BUY THE BOOK. she goes off of her own notes. the online HW is also pointless but you still have to do it.
Shell be a better professor when she starts to grade like a sensible person. Almost as if she wants no one to get a 100% on any assignment because she looks for any opportunity to take points off.
I signed up for Trefry's course since I had no other choice at the time, even when I saw the bad comments they made about her. She is incompetent as an educator and perverse as a person. She is rude, lazy and doesn't mind helping her students. It was a real torment to do this course. I really warn you to be very careful with this pseudo-teacher.
I chose Santa Fe College because is ranked #1 of the best in the US. My experience in pre-calculus with Mrs. Trefry was sinister. This teacher is lazy, evil, and very uncooperative with her students. She always threatens students with taking points off, most of the time unjustifiably. Her behavior makes Santa Fe College #1, but of the worst.
Fair warning: There's homework due every class which isn't a dealbreaker but it's requires to copy the textbook word for word. Those long math questions? yep you have to copy the whole question or its wrong. Oh and the tests? you get 1 question wrong in a section, she marks the entire section on the test wrong despite correct answers.
If I could give her 0 stars I would. One of the most rude, non helpful professors I have ever had in my life. Impossible to get good grades because of her grading. Stay away!!!
I took Professor Trefry for Precalc in Fall 2017. Her teaching style is very straightforward; she demonstrates her notes, we do some group work, and then she gives the answers to the group work. When I took the class, she had us get into a group with lab partner, and I was lucky enough to have a wonderful partner. I actually enjoyed her lectures.
got mad at me for the way i write down my work, very petty, would not recommend, she skips important steps when explaining to concepts, loves giving out tons of assignments at once and making you stress :)
Not her. Shes awful. Barely teaches you, she was very condescending and YELLING when we took our exam on TEAMs. Im pretty patient but she has no idea what shes doing half the time I feel
she gives assignments on things she does not teach. Literally just gives you computer labs and says good luck to you because she will LEGIT NOT TEACH YOU ANYTHING. unless you are a self learner, do not take her classes.
I really enjoyed her class. I wish I would have gotten a better grade. This was not because of her. She made things really great and clear. All this was really new to me and I am proud of the grade that I got. If you have any questions, she is always there to help you. She is the one to take if you are looking for some great guidance in mathematics
I've never gotten below a B in a class but ths teacher just doesnt know how to explain new material, she will simply dive in with easy problems and then the test will be things she barely covered. Most people in my class either failed or dropped it.
VERY strict about everything including scratch paper for tests, she has premade scratch paper that leaves you no room. Has group labs, confusing proctoring for tests, horrible with explaining directions clearly. Half the time what she lectures isn't in the homework or tests. You're better off learning pre-calc from Youtube. Do NOT take her.
Do NOT take this Professor. She is horrible, shes strict, not clear with instruction, assigns group labs and no other students help so youre stuck doing all the work. She proctors exams using Teams, all while she and students are talking loudly in background. Doesnt care if its distracting and wont let you test at testing center.
Probably the worst instructor I have ever had the misfortune of signing up for. When I went to her for office hours, she was inattentive and did not help me until the time was almost up because I was apparently frustrating her. During that time, I could hear her typing on her computer instead of helping me, which was incredibly distracting. BEWARE.
This professor is very straightforward during her lectures but assigns homework that is noticeably harder than her examples. She is very strict about following instructions and will sometimes take off points for seemingly no reason. Little to no patience if you mess up. One positive is that she is somewhat helpful in Test Review Sections.
I beg of you to not take this professor. She puts material on the tests that aren't even on the notes and is EXTREMELY strict. I wouldn't let my worst enemy take any of her classes.
If you dont like working with other people even online this class is NOT for you. If you dont like working with technology this class is NOT for you. Lectures arent too bad, notes are helpful but not the best mathematics class Ive taken.
She's very good at explaining the lessons and is willing to help you understand it more. Her homework labs are graded hard but for a good reason. If you don't show all your work you will get points off. I've gotten the hang of how she grades so i'm doing well in the class which is easy since she's a GREAT teacher.
Shes a great person and teacher, but if you need help and go to office hours you are NOT her priority for the duration of office hours. If you miss a lesson and ask her to briefly go over it with you for ten minutes she will not. When you are in office hours she will be chatting with her fellow teachers. However, in class shes good.
So specific on grading, everyone was struggling to get As. We would all check our work together before class (it would be the same) and one person would get an F and another an A. Its all about how you show your work, and it has to be exactly the way she wants it. I never had a problem, but it was tedious.
She can teach, but she grades really hard and wants to see every little work on your paper, or else she takes points off. I would not take this class because the test are extremely difficult, they are all filled in the black. Just an overall tedious and hard class.
Explains and simplifies concepts in a manner that makes it easy to understand. You have to do more work on your own to fully grasp the concepts.
Super straight-forward with the guided notes which makes doing the labs and homework a lot easier. I recommend this class to people who are willing to work to pass. You WILL NOT pass if you don't come to class and don't show work on labs/tests the specific way she wants it. Super tedious work, but its worth it to take her if you really wanna learn.
Grades papers based on how she knows how to do things I matter if the answer of correct. Says that you can go to her for help but when I went she just said I need to do better on the tests does the east problems during the lectures but on tests you get harder problems.
I was very nervous before taking her class because of her ratings on here, but I just finished my semester with her, and will confidently say she was one of the best math teachers I've had. She explained things in class very well and didn't move on until she made sure everybody understood. Very funny and caring. 100% recommend.
This professor is very unreasonable. No matter how hard you study for a test, it'll end up having problems 10 times harder than the ones discussed in class. Even though the work you did is correct, if it's not how SHE wants it, she won't accept it. Couldn't make it to class? Your grade will go down instantly. Huge lack of empathy.
Prof. Trefry is awesome, she is lovely and will do anything to see her students succeed if they show they are trying. The notes without the lectures look incomprehensible, and there's a reason why she grades attendance, it matters heavily. The tests are a big part of the grade but if you attend class and read the book you should be able to pass.
If you have any kind of disability, especially dyscalculia, do not take her, she will not work with you.
Nice enough lady, but a horrible professor. I have a learning disability that she flat out refused to work with. No matter how hard I studied or how much tutoring I received, I could never pick up on the information. I struggled the whole semester and still received an F.
Perfect professor for someone who just wants clear instruction and straight forward homework. Homework is easy and she is very good about helping you during her office hours. Just show her that you want to do well and she will help you.
As someone who is not skilled in the math department this class was a LIFESAVER. Super easy subjects, I was basically finishing the homework in class. Great professor, teaches well and is personable.
Participation matters, but doing the homework and following along with the course material presented in class is more important. Professor Trefry explains the formulas and the way to solve problems really well. She shows you how to do the work, and she gives ample time to complete the homework assignments. It's almost impossible to fail her class.
Trefry is cool, good sense of humor.
Dr. Trefry is an amazing teacher. She is patient and never makes anyone feel stupid for their questions or not understanding. She takes her time to make sure everyone is understanding.
I really don't see why professor Trefry is receiving hate. She was amazing for my class. Sure she can grade hard if you don't show all your work but she also grades your work if you don't get the question right. She was very accessible during office hours I never had a problem.
Prof. Trefrey is one of the worst Professors I have ever dealt with. As a student with a disability, she doesn't seem to care, or want to work with you to help you succeed . All of my other professors worked with me, but she flat out doesn't seem to care. It's almost like she doesn't want someone with a learning disability to be in college.
Professor Trefry can be tough, but if you put in the effort and follow her system, you'll do well. The tests are challenging, so using tools like unstuck study alongside the textbook and attending class is crucial. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to work hard.
She was very nice, sometimes snobby, but overall patient when lecturing and gives decent references. Homework was nearly daily but it was very easy and even easier to be able to get ahead.
I took Mathematical Thinking with Trefry and it's already an easy enough math as it is. But she explained everything great in lectures and has a workbook you follow along with. Her structure of homework, labs, and tests really help you learn the material to the point where I usually don't have to study for tests. She only wants you to succeed and
As someone who hates math, I loved Trefry. She explains things clearly, gives good examples, and always answers questions. Attendance is a grade, so you need to show up. Weekly homework and labs but they're not hard and it's very easy to get ahead. Tests are a big part of your grade, so be sure to study for them. Overall a great system and teacher
Laura is a good person, I like her. But she's not a good teacher imo. Her lessons are fragmented at best. Her speech patterns make her difficult and even annoying to follow. I didn't enjoy this class. This is the first math class I really hated
Her course is tough. Attendance is added as points in her exams, which is helpful. She has webassign, "labs" which are pages as hw for a grade. I personally couldn't follow along with her teaching she goes very fast. She has a packet book which I survived by studying from it directly. Having the notes is crucial. Wasn't very helpful during office h
She does not belittle you and helps a lot during class. She does make a few mistakes when doing the notes but with them being guided you can work ahead if needed. The tests make or break your grade as well do the projects. I highly advise going to the tutoring center for projects and not her office!
Do NOT take her. She has no empathy for a student with a math disability (dyscalculia). Her attitude is "if you can't handle the class, you don't belong in college." No matter how much work you put into the class, it's never enough with her. And she will NOT explain where you went wrong. She told me to figure it out. She is not clear at all.
I'm confused by the bad ratings. Yes tests and projects can be difficult, but Trefy was always willing to help me and my classmates with whatever questions we had. There is a homework/lab every class which is annoying but they help you study. She explains things well and has a good system with her material. She is one of the better professors at SF.
Attendnce is only 5% of the grade so u dont NEED to show up but you probably should, otherwise her work was super easy and she's really nice and will walk you through something one on one if needed, if i need another math class later down the line i'd definetly take her again.
I loved this teacher! She was very helpful and always took the time to explain if asked! She is super sweet and a great sense of humor! Would definitely recommend her!
