Dr. L. Yeakel's class was very interesting. The material is hard but Dr. L. Yeakel explains the material fully and completely. It was an honor for me to be one of her students. I recommend Dr. L. Yeakel, for any student that needs a strong Inorganic Chem background. She's fair and willing to help.

She is a very good teacher. If you want to LEARN then you should take your inorganic chem classes with her. Very fair in grading and gives clear directions for lab procedure and its organization (many students consider fair grading hard!). she also has very good manners and expects students to have good manners in return.

To be honest her tests were hard, if you do not plan on studying at home. If you put the effort into the class you will get a decent grade. She is not that bad as all the other rating say. Take good notes and study and you will get an A.

She is a very helpful teacher but you have to work crazy hard, she is way better than her husband but she is a hard grader, she has long exams and easier but her husband short and hard. I swear Dr. Yeakel is the hardest working teacher I've ever met. She's really does so much for her students, well the one's whom do the work. It is a hard class, but once you get her routine down, it's no problem. One piece of advice for 142, DO NOT get behind on the labs. She's a great teacher that actually cares about her students leaving the class with actual knowledge about chemistry, hence the reason for her difficulty. If you put in the time it takes, it's a pretty satisfying course.

I had Dr. Laura Yeakel for both 141, 142 and both of the labs with that class, and I can say that she's amongst the best of the chem teachers out there. However, if you expect an easy a, look elsewhere. She's tough, but as a result, you leave wit a strong knowledge in chem, and a better shot at the later exams like the PCAT, MCAT or DCAT.

i took her in the spring semester and it was horrible.its overwhelming u have a lab everyday.shes a really nice lady but she expects u to remember everything that u learned in high skool and i cant even remember what i ate yesterday. Yeakel is a good professor. She's got tons of experience, in Saudi Arabia, u of m aa, and knows what students needs to know, and will teach them what they need to know to succeed. She's by no means an easy customer, but I managed to get an A but going over her lecture notes, paying attention, and doing practice probs. Book was useless, btw.

OK. Asking "is doctor Yeakel tough" is like asking "is the pope a catholic." She's TOUGH but guess what? I feel that I actually earned my A, and I still know the pKa equations she made us learn, and all that good stuff. I highly reccomend, but let me tell you, you're toast if you don't put your best foot forward.

She is one of the two best Chemistry teachers I have ever met. she has the gift of explaining. She is a tough grader but that's good because it keeps you on your toes and cleans you from silly mistakes. Best teacher i have had at henry ford hands down. Very helpful, crystal clear explanation, and whenever i had questions she was in her office ready and glad to help. One thing though.. do not try to act smart or funny when its business time cuz she will not tolerate any messing around .. but she is a lovely teacher and would reccomend for anyone :D

141 with Dr. Yeakel is easy for anyone who can put a little effort. 142 is difficult. Get a study group, go to lecture, do practice exams. Repeat this for every test. Be preparing a week in advance for the tests, get some smart friends. 141 you can do on your own, 142 you need a group. Labs are long, get them done before the day they're due.

Professor laura is very nice. And always willing to help you if you asked her in her office hours. you need to study and exams are long. If you want to learn take her.

professor has a very thorough knowledge about the materials covered and perhaps that is what poses the problems. she expects you to know a lot of stuff that the only way you are going to know it is by asking other students and tutors. labs are a waaaay too much and the book is not a bit helpful. she is a good teacher but i would NOT recommend.

Ok first of all, chem 131 students, please do not rate! Dr Yeakel is the best professor I have ever seen or can even imagine. Easy class really, but it gets even easier having any of the Yeakels as an instructor.

Dr. Yeakel is a great instructor! There is nothing surprising on her tests, they are similar to previous semesters tests. I struggled at first, but if you study and keep on top of labs, you should be fine.

Dr. Yeakel is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. There are not enough words to describe how impressed I was with her teaching style. If you pay attention and put in some work in between classes, you'll do just fine. Her exams are long, but fair since she'll give you ample time to finish. Looking forward to taking 142 with her.

One of the best professors I have ever had in my entire life. Extremely dedicated to her job. Helpful and understanding. She is clear in her lectures. But, you still have to study for all her exams and DO NOT fall behind in lab. But overall, she is an amazing professor who knows more chemistry than every student and faculty member at Henry Ford.

Great professor. She really wanted you to understand the information, but you have to be trying. If you ask a question and it is obvious you are not trying to follow along or stidy outside of class time, she will call you out. Attended every class, asked questions, did the online hw problems on pace with the class and skimmed the chs. Got an A.

Dr. Yeakel is a very good teacher in my opinion. Her class isn't the type a student should expect an easy A in. If your the student that tends to be lazy and hates to study, I strongly suggest that you don't take her. This class requires a lot of focus and self teaching. If your new to chemistry, I don't recommend this class.

She is an excellent teacher. Yes, the material is hard and there is a lot to cover but she makes it easy to understand. She is always willing to answer questions and is available during office hours. She even gives you practice tests which help tremendously. I would recommend her !

This was a seriously tough class. Dr. Yeakel is smart, and a great teacher, but she really pushed us during the accelerated semesters. Many of the kids that started out in this class dropped by the end of the semester. I got an A in this class, but fought snarling for every point. Dr. Yeakel is not the easiest instructor at HFCC, and she probably is one of the hardest, but that doesn't mean you can't learn from her. I took her for CHEM 141 and CHEM142 and got an A in both, but it came with lots of studying and doing practice problems. I would recommend her. That is, if you do want to learn & aren't looking for an easy A.

Very tough. She makes you work for your grade and you wont do good if you dont go to class. She explains things very well though, but you have to study because her tests are very challenging. Pay attention when she explains things. And ALWAYS ask questions, or you will not do well at all. If your not willing to work, avoid her.

i took both 141 and 142 and its hard at the begging but it get easier, the grading system is great, you can score up to 120 in tests but she counts till 100, if you get better she drops your lowest score, got A in both

Dr. Yeakel is a no-nonsense kind of teacher. Her tests are extremely hard to a point where memorizing wont do you any good, you really have to practice and UNDERSTAND the concepts. She's really helpful if you go to her office and ask her a question one on one rather than ask it during class. Take her husband if you aren't willing to do the work.

Dr. Yeakel is a wonderful woman! I am not going to lie- hard class. I worked harder than I ever had in any class (I am in the honors program and Phi Theta Kappa) and I passed with a C. My first grade lower than an A, might I add. I was constantly in her office hours getting help. I am sad to not have her anymore! By far favorite professor!

Dr Yeakel is one of the best professors at HFCC. Not only she is passionate in Chemistry, she is also very helpful. Go to her office hour, you will get a lot of clarification of the lecture that she does not have enough time to talk about in class. Highly recommended this professor.

she is a very tough teacher, but only because she helps you learn the material. you have to read the book over and over again and do her practice exams (which are similar to her exams) to get a good grade on the exam. very helpful if you have the initiative to go ask her for help.

I love Dr Yeakel so much! She is very intelligent but don't expect her to go into great details in class. Go to her office hours, this will help you understand the materials that she had to rush thru in class to cover all the materials. In general, I totally enjoy this class!

The class had an element of difficulty, but Professor Laura did her best explaining the core concepts. She offers students practice tests before every exam, which help them prepare, and those practices are fairly representative of the real exams. Overall, I recommend Professor Laura and encourage students to take her class.

One of the best professors I have ever taken. Lectures are crystal clear and will always clarify if you don't get it before moving on. She spends the time teaching you and explaining and expects that you learn it for the exams. I give her an A++ with 2 thumbs up on teaching you the material. Would definitely recommend her to anyone! She is one of the best proffesors in HFC , if you love to get the knowledge and the inspiration take her and dont hesitate. but if u just want the grade from the course and ur not willing to attend the lectures , then go some where else. I got an A , the first 3 exams i got full grade and the secret in that is to pay attention in every detail class

To be honest: She is a great teacher, her tests are tough but she is thorough in explaining the material. visit her in her office hours, ask questions, work hard, study, study, study and you should be fine. Must work hard to learn and know the material, she is no joke at all. She is nice but you must work hard. I can't stress that enough.

I had her for the lab portion of CHEM131. She is a tough grader because she pays attention to fine details. She is generally a tough professor. I had a good amount of basic chemistry knowledge, so this class wasn't a problem for me. She is stern and sometimes makes jokes. She is very serious about following rules. Take her if you're a hard worker

Good teacher. She gives great lectures. Class is no trouble, if you study, do the practice exams, see her for help for the lab quizzes, and practice problems from the book. Getting an A in this class is effort based. People say she's a tough grader, but don't worry if u prepare. CON: VERY MEAN SOMETIMES. CAN'T RESPECT STUDENTS, only when she feels.

This class is not an easy A, you have to work for it. But professor yeakel explains all the material that is needed for the exams. Her exams are not tricky, they are exactly what we learned in class and they are very similar to her practice exams. Just make sure you study ahead of time. She is a tough grader and doesn't give good partial points.

Definitely take chemistry with her! The exams are purely based off of the lectures in class so make sure to attend and focus. She doesn't really throw curveballs on her exams and go to her office hours for extra help shes super nice. I learned a lot from her, i took her for 141 lecture and 142 labs and she is so fair about grading. I love her!!

She is a tough grader (but gives extra credit) and her exams may be hard, but at the same time she gives very good lectures and helps you understand the material. She also answers questions clearly. If you are serious and study well then you should be fine.
