ASK QUESTIONS. If you don't understand what's going on ask a question. She can answer your questions better when you're one on one so go in for help. I HIGHLY recommend her. She doesn't really use the textbook, but it's useful to refer to.
my main question in her class is what d you want?! very unclear. she is helpful if you go to her office hours. tests are very hard. weekly quizzes. she tries to make things simple by giving it funny names but look out in the tests she will ask for the exact definition. class average midterm was a fail.
Her class is definitely a challenge if you all behind. She doesn't refer much to the textbook but you will HAVE to read it oustide of class. You MUST have amazing and reliable notes. My experience with her was pretty difficult i must say; weekly quizzes could either kill you or help you. GL
Bio Basis of Behavior was an extremely hard class/a prerequisite to neuroscience. Dr. Beck was helpful and personable. If you failed her class, it was because you didn't put the effort in required to succeed. Best score was on my cumulative final. Be sure to read the book and attend class daily.
Dr. Beck was very helpful. She did lots of things in class to explain the concepts. It's a hard class, but she did a good job letting you know what she expects. I would take her classes again.
what does this professor wants? very unclear. she helps in her office hours but not in class. never in my life have ii worked so hard for a B. she is a doctor so she thinks intro to bio is a higher level class. dropped a class for next semester when i found out she is the teacher. stay away like fire!
Dr.Beck is one of the best professors that I had!She is humorous in class, extremely helpful, and she challenges you to think deeper about Biology. She cares a lot about her students, and you can learn a lot from her. I wish she had been harder though. Anyone who is willing work hard and put in the extra effort can get an A in that class.
BIO I is a tough class, but Dr. Beck makes it really clear and straight forward. I loved her examples, she can come up with an analogy between baking a cake and cellular respiration like you wouldn't believe. Overall, the class is tough and you're going to have to put aside some time to study, but I feel like Beck is the the way to go.
Dr. Beck is the best professor in this course. Her tests are very fair in reference to the material covered. Studying is extremely necessary for general biology courses but Dr. beck gives HW and quizzes in addition to 4 tests so there is a large number of points.
Dr. Beck is a rough PSYC professor. She is part of the BIO department so if you take PSYC 2220 with her, which is BIO and PSYC it is over emphasized on the BIO. Her test are VERY hard, and her multiple choice questions are overly specific. She is a good teacher and willing to help you outside of class if need be, but bery difficult class.
The material in itself is not extremely hard but Dr.Beck comes up with the most complex test questions that you have ever seen in your life. I am thankful that she did that because my critical thinking skills have improved because of it. She's not an easy A teacher but she's very helpful in office hours as well as being energetic in class.
This professor is horrible. I went to her numerous times for help and all she told me was "to study more" I am retaking a class from a different professor and am learning SO much more and enjoying class.
I took this course in the summer and it ifs the hardest course I've ever been in. You have to take super clear notes and you have to spend your whole summer with the material go to the si sessions because they help. But if you like summer then take this class in the fall.
Dr. Beck is one of the best professors in the biology department. You can get an "A" if you study the material everyday.Don't wait until the last minute. The online assignments are very helpful. She grades fairly. I do recommend her.
This class was not easy. I studied so much for her exams and still only got a B. She thinks of the most intricate and confusing test questions. Very nice person and personality though. She makes the lectures interesting enough.
She is one of the best professors in the department. Cell biology like any other biology classes is not supposed to be easy at all and needs a lot of efforts.
First Mistake, I took a summer class. Second mistake, I also had a job. All in All,this class was difficult, the professor was unclear, I attended tutoring and studied a lot but I still failed the class. She is really a nice person but her tests were really hard to handle and understand. I wouldn't take this class. I would choose a different prof.
Dr. Beck gives great lectures and puts in a lot of time preparing material. BUT, if you take her class, it's best to keep your head down and your mouth shut. She's the only professor I've had who reprimanded students in class. Tread lightly: she sees herself as generous to students and takes offense if she thinks you don't agree.
Physiology over the summer was extra punishing, but fortunately Dr. Beck made it bearable. She is knowledgable, organized, always prepared and also really funny, zany and understanding. Plus, I don't know how she doesn't have any peppers yet because she is totally gorgeous and smoking hot!
Dr. Beck is exceptional clear about what to expect from you. The exams are really tough, and the article readings are comprehensive yet very interesting. Her lecture is one of the best ever. Just make sure you attend class because she does not use textbooks, and you have to pay extra close attention to everything she said in class in order to pass!
Great prof. Funny and really cares about her students. Tough class and exams. Challenges you to think.
Dr. Beck refused to help me. I understood the material and studied hard, but she made ridiculously confusing tests, refused to help, and treated me terribly. She didn't respect me as a person, and I had to drop the class. I'm an A student. I would never take another class with her.
Super accessible professor who cares a lot. Hard tests, but fair. Entertaining lectures. Definitely would recommend if you don't mind working hard. She covers A LOT of material
Tough tests, but her lectures are very clear. Be able to relate concepts to each other. The final wasn't cumulative, which was nice, but I still studied about 15 hours for each test, and Biology is my major. She's hilarious, but she doesn't provide more than an outline of her notes in class, so you have to go.
Attendance is not mandatory however if you don't go you have to find a different way of getting her notes because she wont give them out to students no matter what. If you do get her notes they are poor because they are extremity simplified version of the book and her hand writing is horrible. On the tests she asks for the details of subjects.
Dr. Beck is a remarkable (and hilarious) professor! She thoroughly explains the material and provides in-class practice problems. The textbook is more of a backdrop to the information she presents, but proves useful in completing HW and clarifying some topics. Concept quizzes are stressful, but manageable. Exams are tough, so review material daily!
This teacher is the least considerate teacher I have ever met. She lacks any form of compassion or awareness that there are things happening outside of her class (i.e., other classes). She does not give out notes or study guides. Do not waste your time or money.
I took a hybrid genetics course with Dr. Beck and loved her! Her online lectures were split up into 10-30 min videos, making it easy to follow along. She thoroughly explained the material while making it interesting, and she provided many worked examples in the lectures. Problems on the exams followed the same format and steps as these examples.
Yikes. This class is ROUGH. Dr. Beck provides interesting lectures and is accessible via email or through her office hours. Homework/quizzes are online and are a little tricky, but help overall with the course. Exams are terrible. The level of knowledge you are supposed to have far exceeds the level she provides in her lectures.
You will not pass this class unless you read the book. Her lectures give general info, which isn't enough to pass her class. She is easily accessible via office hours & email.
Tough class and she will not curve your grade or any grade regardless of how close you are. I was off by 0.19 points for an A and she would not consider bumping the grade up. She also does not do plus or minus grades, so that makes things worse.
Her exams are tough and, regardless of how close of a grade you have to the next one up, she does not curve at all. Take physiology with Dr. Greene instead.
The class is interesting and she is a nice professor, don't get me wrong. But she is not considerate with grades and the class is not plus or minus based. The multiple choice on her exams are tough and the matching and fill in the blank can also get tough.
Not as hard as anatomy, but Dr. Beck definitely is strict with grading and has tough exams.
She's a cool professor, but very inconsiderate. No curves in the class, so even if you are at a 89.9999, she will not bump you up to an A. She also does not do a plus or minus scale.
Actually she will give you a bump, if you're a good student. Professors just don't want to be bugged about it at the end of the semester. So if you ask for one, you're being annoying. Very detail oriented questions and everything is conceptual. You can't just memorize. Also most students are stupid and lazy. This is college.
Really funny professors but exams are RIDICULOUSLY hard. I understood all of the problems and concepts that she taught us in class but once the exam came, the questions were just absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes, it's even on stuff that she never even went over in class and just expected you to know
Dr. Beck is the best! Her class isn't easy, but she does a great job at simplifying and explaining hard concepts. She is also fun to be around and makes her lectures entertaining.
Dr. Beck is a good professor, however her class isn't easy. Her exams are very hard, so you need to work hard if you plan on getting an C or higher. Be prepared to put extra time outside of class, you might want to meet people in that class to form study groups too.
I absolutely loved her classes, I'm so excited for next semester! She's hilarious and very approachable, which balances out her absolutely brutal exams. She supplies you with more than enough information per lecture to pass the exams without reading, however they are very tough! She's not for everyone, but I certainly recommend her!
Overall, I loved professor Beck. She's hilarious and if I'm being honest this is one of the hardest classes. However, if you study and put in the work you see results. I studied 6 hours a week for this class and I got the results I wanted. She relies on PowerPoints but this is how I learn best. Not for everyone but she was phenomenal for Genetics.
Dr. Beck managed to make genetics - a FASCINATING topic - almost unbearable with her erratic behavior. She was completely unavailable outside of class. Grading was discouraging - MANY 5 question assignments (missing 1 80%) throughout the semester. Constant confusing typos in our assignments...I could go on & on. If you have other options, do!
I learned a lot in this course and am thankful for that. You can tell she creates her own, unique homework, test and quiz questions. However, the most difficult aspect of this class was the ambiguity of the wording in almost all quizzes and tests. Half the time, deciphering what she's actually trying to ask was half the battle (and time).
She "taught" a split class where you listed to hours of video lecture and then take a quiz once a week. There was minimum interaction with her actually teaching. If you have a question, ask alone because she will belittle you. Her attitude is horrendous and she is condescending and tries to be funny but has an arrogant attitude.
Don't take a class with her, everything is just so difficult in her class (test, quiz, homework, lecture...) Just everything is HARD.
Dr. Beck did a great job on her online lectures and, when you asked her a question, she answered clearly in a manner that really demonstrated her level of knowledge and understanding. Unfortunately, there wasn't much opportunity to ask her and she let her student helpers answer questions which didn't help. Her tests are HARD to understand.
It's telling that my lab has a saying - "do you speak Beck?" As you can see from the reviews below, you either understand her or you don't. It's awful to have your grade based on whether you can figure out the professor, rather than the material. She even tells you not to bother with the textbook and just focus on her lectures.
Had a flipped class where lectures were online and study sessions were done in class. She explains everything very well and her TAs helped a lot too.
I really liked Dr. Beck's teaching style since her lectures are online and you basically show up to class to complete the in-class quizzes and in-class activities. She gives a lot of real-life examples to explain different biological concepts. Studying for the tests and quizzes are a must. I recommend attending the SI sessions for this class.
I thought that her lectures were very well organized and planned out. I think that she articulates the material exceptionally well so that it sticks in your mind. Genetics is inherently a more difficult subject, can't really dock the prof for that. Go to class, read the chapters ahead of each lecture, and do the work. Metacognition is your friend.
I took her hybrid physiology class, and overall I'd recommend it. The online videos were well organized, and she made a difficult subject interesting to learn. The key to her exams is that you have to know the systems very well, to the point where you have to know the issues that arise from a compromised area in the body. No +/- system, though.
Absolutely loved Dr. Beck's class!! She had such a great vibe, was really enthusiastic and was very passionate. Not many grades go in, but if you study and watch her video lectures and take notes, there's no way you won't do well!! Has pre quizzes before class, and in class quizzes every week, attendance is crucial.
I took a class 2 classes with Dr. Beck (genetics and human physiology) These were hands down the hardest classes i have ever taken. She teaches the material very well but is an extremely hard tester. You are forced to learn things her way and if she does not cover something in class, you are not allowed to use it for her exams! Try to avoid her!!!
Great professor. She is clear about what she wants you to know. She gives just a little bit of extra credit. Very lecture heavy, and she goes very quick. I recorded her lectures and used them extensively to supplement my in-class notes. She makes things difficult by trying to oversimplify some topics, she sometimes goes against the textbook.
Definitely my favorite in the biology department. Genetics is a tough class regardless of who you take it with but the way she outlines the notes for you to fill in was an immense help. She is also available to answer questions by email and doesn't act like you're a bother as some teachers do. Be ready to study your notes but she makes it easy
Dr. Beck is an amazing professor who really knows her material. I loved the online format of her lectures with the practice work being challenging, in classroom assignments. Unfortunately, Dr. Beck does not adjust her testing style to the level of the course, so in a freshman level course, she expected jr/sr level application of the knowledge.
she has a flipped classroom style where she requires you go over lectures on your own time and come prepared for class. you have weekly quizzes and have worksheets that cover material covered in the lectures. she really tries to help students understand the material not just memorize it. she has a very bubbly personality! 10/10
Literally one of the best professors I've ever had. Her physiology class helped me score high on the MCAT too! Wish she taught classes at my medical school!
I love Dr Beck as a person- she is caring, accessible outside of class, & not condescending when you ask her questions. She made her lectures engaging & was sure to use different colors to explain figures in her slides. I disagree with a her grading however and lots of points are are awarded to short-answer questions that are very specific.
Online lectures are around 2 hours long. There are two quizzes a week.
Honestly, Beck made me hate my major, which is Biology. She made this class feel like an online class. You have to watch videos that usually take two hours long, take notes, and take a quiz that determines how much you have memorized after you have had your brain fried from all the note-taking. Then you have an in-class quiz two days later. So hard
Dr. Beck does video lectures rather than in-class lectures. During class time, the students work on in-class worksheets that are application based. I like the video lectures because I focus better and it forces you to not procrastinate. If it was in-class lectures and reading the book, I wouldn't pay attention and procrastinate the reading.
She's caring but it's ridiculous how tough her tests are. Her class is quite challenging. There are 2 quizzes per week and they weigh a lot. She doesn't give us an opportunity to show her that we do know the information. I did enjoy the flipped style classroom (watch video lectures at home/do activities in class) though.
Beware of her grading, she grades with no respect to her rubrics and will take off for things not specified on the grading scale. Would not recommend.
She is a very nice professor and it is an overall easy class if you watch her video lectures and take notes. I enjoyed the flipped classroom where lectures were on our own time and only studying/quizzes were in class. Sometimes she was confusing using metaphors, but overall very nice and helpful.
Laurel Beck's class was easy and the material wasn't hard to grasp, however, her quizzes and tests were sometimes hard to understand even if I knew the material and the answer. Sometimes the questions on the quizzes didn't make sense at all. However, I loved the video lectures she provides. She is funny as well as caring.
I should not take her lecture. She does not show her respects. Also, she gives lecture based on the notes, so all students have to take the notes together in class. The problem is you take a lot of time to figure out what she writes on the board. Avoid her lecture.
Okay so I am a biology major and all I have to say about Dr. Beck is that she is a wonderful professor, you will learn a lot from her. If you are really want to learn biology then take her but if you want an easy professor where you won't learn that much then don't take her. I studied for her midterms/final and quizzes and I was able to get an A!
BEST PROFESSOR! she cares about her students. she has a flipped classroom, where you watch her lectures at home and take your notes at your own pace. In class, you do a worksheet with a group and it's graded for completion. There's also a quiz every week ( which are not hard if you know the material) before each quiz you will also have a review!
take her!!!! you won't regret it
All over the place and unfocused. Takes easy topics and confuses them. Only caters to the way that a few students can learn from. Terrible and unclear lectures that. If you miss a class for one class you will never get the notes from her. Horribly written test questions that are way too complex to understand. Confusing at best, horrible at worst.
If you want to actually learn biology then take her
Beck is an amazing passionate professor who truly cares about her students. There are extra credit opportunities up to 10 points. There are weekly quizzes which are hard but only top 10 count. 4 test and mandatory final. Watch for her wording and defiantly ask questions. Attend recitation that is how I passed. Defiantly study material fast, a lot.
IF U WANT TO LEARN BIOLOGY THEN TAKE HER, IT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND BIO 1 IN ORDER TO DO GOOD IN HIGHER BIOLOGY CLASSES AND BECK IS THE BEST PROF FOR BIO 1. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT FROM HER. SHE IS DOWN TO HELP STUDENTS ONLY IF U PUT IN UR WORK. PRE HEALTH STUDENTS TAKE HER
Dr. Beck is the most caring professor I have ever met. She's really committed to helping you succeed in her class. This isn't an easy class, and it takes a lot of work, but any student can get an A if they take advantage of the resources she offers. She teaches towards a variety of learning styles so anyone can be successful.
Dr Beck is awesome. Her lecture style actually made sure I learned the material and helped me understand what was going on. I looked forward to going to class, and I made friends from the group activities we did every week.
Has no respect for student who took both chem and biology together. She expects her students to study for biology 24/7 we have other subjects to focus on. The quizzes assigned on Thursday eventually gets really difficult. One failed quiz drops you 8%. How is that fair that's basically an exam 10% drop. NO EXAGGERATION trust me.
You watch pre-recorded lectures before class. These lectures are entertaining, but they can sometimes be lengthy. If you take notes, watch the lectures, and look over the worksheet keys that are online every week, you will do fine. She drops your lowest two quizzes, worksheets, and pre-class quizzes. That being said, do all of the assignments.
Laurel Beck is a very intelligent professor, however she is not on your side. She started the first-class off by stating half of us will fail, and she purposefully tries to trick you with her wording on tests/ quizzes. Only ask her questions during her office hours. It's either her way or the high way in this class! Hardest B I've ever worked for.
The homework, problem sets and quizzes were extensive in an unhelpful way, both in time, and language. While some questions helped me prepare for the exams she uses inconsistent terms in lectures and examples as compared to the questions she asks in homework, problem sets, and quizzes. Inconsistencies led to confusion on these assignments and exams
I took Dr. Beck for gen bio 1, the way she taught her class helped me be more prepared for upper-division biology courses. If you are a pre-health student, I recommend taking her. She is not an easy professor if you don't put the work and effort in the class. I have so much respect for Dr. Beck.
Hands down the best professor.
The best biology professor at CU DENVER
Dr. Beck was amazing. Especially with the change to online school due to COVID-19, she handled it seamlessly, and dropped more grades to make the class less stressful, but I was still motivated to learn. Good extra credit opportunities, really thorough lectures.
Worst! Genetics is a hard class, but her inability to teach shows. She just reads recycled slides, talks way too fast, and uses many different terms for the same thing (but doesnt teach all of them though she uses them interchangably). The strictest grader ever, if you miss one part, you miss the whole thing. no wiggle room for learning/mistakes
Prof. Beck is very hard to follow and she expects you to know the material inside and out. She is a tough grader and allows minimal extra credit. You have to know every aspect of the course in order to pass. She is not very good at explaining the material. You have to do your own learning, do not expect anything out of her. I don't recommenced her.
I took Dr. Beck for genetics and I thought she was a great professor. Her class is difficult and the exams are a bit of a jump from the assignments, but it is definitely not impossible. If you put some good effort into her class, you will do just fine. She is also always willing to help clarify any confusing topics during her office hours.
I actually had Dr. Beck a couple years ago for genetics and physiology. At the time I thought her tests were unfair and told others to stay away. I'm now in my first year of medical school and can honestly say her classes prepared me better than any professor for the MCAT and medical school. If you are premed, take her and you'll be glad you did!
Her classes aren't technically mandatory, but they are for points. The way she structures the class makes it very flexible, and you don't need to do every assignment. There is a fair amount of work, but it isn't very difficult and it's beneficial to do all the assignments for the exams.
Definitely take Dr. Beck if you are pre-health. Her class is hard but its worth while as you really get a good grasp on the material. She is also very kind and relatable and will connect with students after class. It takes a lot of time out of class but it will help you later on. Make sure to understand lectures w/ good notes and ask questions.
Learning from Dr. Beck is awesome. She cares about your learning a lot and wants to make sure you understand the content. Her assignments and exams are challenging and requires a lot of critical thinking, but she has a unique grading scale, which was VERY helpful for this semester.
Human Physiology with Dr. Beck online was a struggle. The lectures were good but when you go and take the practice tests and exams you feel that some of the information was not fully described in the slides (use crash course). Be ready to do work outside of this class. I think that taking her in-person/life would be te best option.
If you put in the work, you will be very successful in this course.
A kind and caring person, but not so great professor. Practice tests questions don't align very well with test questions and requires attendance once a week for assignments but doesn't always take said attendance meaning you don't get credit even if you were there. Be prepared to learn on your own since she doesn't lecture during class time.
She is a great person and obviously is passionate about what she teaches. However, she makes you rely on pre-recorded videos and doesn't actually lecture. Her classes make you do all of the work on your own and she spends class time walking around checking on you without lecturing. This style isn't for everyone. TAs do the bulk of the work in class
Top 3 worst professors in the world Her teaching style is the absolute worse I signed up for this class because it was an in person class that fit my daily schedule She prerecorded the lectures and makes you watch on your own timeThen come to class to do work that takes less than 45 minutes Making it waste my own time why not just lecture in class
she is one of the worst professors that I have ever seen in my life. Her teaching style is the worse + her lectures make it even worst because she makes things more complex than they are. she posts 10 video lectures to do a problem, homework, and a quiz each week then the exam is totally different than the lectures with very long problems.
She has prerecorded lectures that you watch each week on your own time, but they can take up to two hours to watch. Her grading scheme gives a LOT of freedom, especially since she does not offer extra credit. There are a lot of points to gain, so if you do not test well, you can still get a good grade if you do all the other assignments.
Dr. Beck wants her students to study everything but her tests, it doesn't cover everything you studied in each topic. . Worksheets, concept maps, and quizzes help a lot when it comes to the test. Her tests are not hard but she wants to trick people up with the wording. ALWAYS LOOK FOR WORD KEYS IN THE QUESTON!!!:)
Dr. Beck is an amazing professor. The tests are not easy and she will undoubtedly try to trick you with the wording, just get in the habit of reading questions twice. She usually has learning assistants in bio classes, so make use of them if you can. Very lenient grading scale, just turn everything in and you'll be fine.
Dr. Beck is baby far the most difficult professor I have ever encountered. She gives you about 2 hours worth of lecture videos each week and expects for you to know the content front and back. Most of the class is based on the tests and nothing else. I would not recommend this professor especially if you struggle with online learning.
Dr. Beck is a great professor. She teaches with a flipped classroom model, so you watch the lectures at home and then you come to class to do various activities that reinforce the learning (THIS IS EVIDENCED BASED LEARNING!!!). Watch the lectures prior to class! People who struggle don't watch the lectures, or go to class, or prepare at all.
The class was okay. Class is time-consuming, so make sure to study well for this course. The professor is okay too.
I had a bad experience with her teaching style. The lectures, quizzes, and assignments are nowhere near what's on the exams. The grade book is only for exams and quizzes. She gives no feedback on exams, quizzes, or assignments. Your fourth and final exams are taken simultaneously. I would not recommend her for this particular course.
I love the style of her class! You watch lectures before doing an in class activity that is for extra credit, but I do highly recommend going to this in class activity it helps a lot. Then, you take the quiz during the 2nd class period of the week. Only complaint is that the exams don't have enough questions. Do the extra credit!!
This was a flipped classroom, and I believe all her classes are like that, so if you don't like that, you probably won't like her classes. Dr. Beck is understanding and really sweet. If you do the work in her class you will pass.
All I can say is this: even though classes aren't mandatory, the quizzes are, and you will do so much better if you just show up to every class. She is incredibly passionate and takes the time to explain everything. She genuinely understands students and life outside of class. She's amazing, and I'm taking two more classes with her. 10/10.
Frustrating focus on "fun" over education. V inconsistent policies. Nice person but I would prefer a focus on teaching styles over being a hipster. Seems like no level of commitment can avoid missing assignments because she posts on them different media without consistency, so the best students inevitable miss assignments. 100% not recommended.
I dropped out because she really didn't resonate with me. Her teaching methods are weak and her tests feel unrelated to her lectures.
Dr. Beck is AMAZING! I put she is difficult because you genuinely cannot fall behind on the content as there are weekly quizzes and weekly OPPORTUNITIES to practice the concepts discussed in lecture videos (flipped classroom). Super willing to help clarify ANYTHING. Even on exams, she is willing to rephrase questions to help you understand! Loved!!
Her "flipped classroom" model works for some people, but not for me, and there was no alternative options for people that model doesn't work for
Lectures can be time-consuming, but the grading scheme is flexible. Unstuck AI and other online resources helped me manage the workload. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding class.
So this was the final class I will be taking (dropping). She has made me realize how awful this college is. I have never had such an awful professor. No clear grading criteria, no feedback EVER, confusing class structure, pretty sure she switched and confused scantrons on exams and gave me an F with no reason or double checking. Doesn't TEACH.
You have to actually try in this class so don't complain when you don't and get a bad grade. She offers so much extra credit and everything you need to know is in the lecture videos. I never had to read the book to find missing info. Study your butt off and prove you have what it takes to be healthcare provider.
Dr. Beck utilizes a flipped classroom model. All of the learning is in your hands. There are white board talks and work sheets, which are optional, but great ways to strengthen your knowledge. There is also an insane amount of extra credit opportunities. As long as you keep up with the lectures and put the work in, you will succeed.
challenging but good options for extra credit and boosting grade.
-Cares deeply about education and student success -BIOL 3832 (genetics) involved immense extra credit based on participation (lecture videos and worksheets) -very organized class, and exam questions feel somewhat difficult yet fair -utilizes learning assistants (LAs) well and attendance policy lenient, very understanding She is great!
The class structure makes the class difficult. Dr. Beck acts super nice, but does not care. The exams are HARD! Just don't recommend.
This professor acts super nice and bubbly on the outside, but truthfully she doesn't actually care about her students. Throughout the semester she made it clear that she is more concerned with maintaining control than actually supporting students. If you're expecting fairness or compassion here, you'll be disappointed. Do not recommend!!
The tests were never a surprise, there's no textbook, and Dr. Beck's lectures are engaging and more importantly, make sense. She has lots of opportunities for extra credit(10 pts per unit, 4 units per semester), and the comprehensive final is optional, only extra credit. I will say if you don't like flipped classroom though, you might not like it.
Her style of teaching is very ineffective. It's like you're paying tuition to teach yourself.
She's super nice but her teaching style definitely makes things super time consuming. Lectures are entirely online but you also have to attend the class for assignments, so it essentially doubles the amount of time you'd have to spend on the class otherwise
