The hardest prof in the department, but I enjoyed the challenge. I learned alot.

A ton of work, a great down to earth lady who has a lot of knowledge in her field, I learned a lot that will help me in my future.

Great down to earth lady with the hardest class I have EVER taken. She will help you out in a second if you don't understand comething. I'd find an easier prof though inseatd of taking th class.

Very interesting woman, but a very hard and writing intensive class. If you like a good challenge, I would definitely recommend taking her ;-)

Seriously the most work ever, but her projects show you how you can and should use research in all kinds of writing, like fiction, and finding info for yourself.

If you are up for a challenge, take her without a doubt. However, I learned more in her class than any other in my life. She was very helpful and was so nice. She respected her students, which is always nice for a change

a lot of work, but i learned a lot, the class discussions were pretty much lead by students which is a rare thing. it was a hard class, but i learned more than i have in anyother class

HARD! Awesome lady who I would takea again in a heartbeat, but I need a life. Tons of papers but you learn so much about you and the world around you. She respects you as a person and as a student. By far she has had the most significant impact on me.

I took Laurel my freshman year she helped me and others when we needed help. her class was interesting. i would definetly encourage others to take her

Very easy-going prof., although 101 should be a 4 cr. class. Is helpful, but hard on comments.

Get ready to write a lot, but learn a TON about how to improve your writing skills. She gives a lot of feedback. She is very helpful, personable and understanding.

very liberal, but she allows all views to come into the class. I voiced my conservative viewpoints all semester and got a B. She gives ALOT of work. But overall i learned alot.

She was a great teacher and she's NOT a male-bashing feminist- She's a realist about the way people are. If you're a beer-guzzling frat guy freshman, don't take her. If you want to learn a lot by an awesome professor & you want to learn how things are...

She is an awesome professor. I learned so much in her class. I feel that I am a better writer because of her. There are a lot of assignments, but they all work towards improving you paper and writing skills. Take her it will be worth you time.

She's not as bad as some people make her out to be. She's very helpful. Her class is always focused on a certain subject, which ISN'T ALWAYS PARANORMAL. It changes. No matter what it is, she if very helpful, good prof.

She's into the paranormal...some stuff can get pretty weird at times.

She is a great english teacher, but her class is a bit wierd. She foucs it on the paranormal and things which falls around that cata. But overall her class is fun

If you like the paranormal than its an interesting class, thats all we write about is ghosts. We only had to write like 4 major papers that only had to be 4 pages long. Its an easy class!And Dr. Black is a pretty nice lady.

I think this class was awesome. She focused it all around the Paranormal. Heads up, if you don't like writing DO NOT take this class there is A LOT. Three Major Papers a general essay, research, and short fact based fiction. These along with a slew of other writing assignments. Its interesting.

I had Dr. Black my first year at Iup and she still remains one of my favorite teachers six years later. Th class is hard, but it is well worth it.

Her class is very interesting. Knows her stuff. A lot of papers to write, but all in all, a good class to take!

I LOVE Dr. Black. She is an excellent prof. and is very helpful. There are a lot of papers to write but listen to what she says and show effort and you will get the grade. VERY interesting.

Take this class...You get to decide the grading scale as a class! There is writing but what english class doesn't have writing. it is easy writing because its about yourself! She also gives you days off.... Good class take it!

Class wasn't that bad. It seemed to much in the time that she gave us to write the papers. The class makes you really think. Overall a good class if you dont know what you want to do with your life.

She is a great prof. and is very helpful. She really cares about her students and it shows. She lets the class choose the grading system, and is really easygoing about grades overall. She lets you do a lot of group work, which helps you really connect with other people and helps a lot when it comes to editing/etc. Def. take her if you can!!

While you're doing huge assignments and writing long papers, you'll hate her. But!--when it's all over, you realize that she really did make you a better writer, reader, and thinker. She is strict but fair on attendance, and very upfront about her expectations and policies. She's a good, open-minded person that really does care about you

Awsome class, i really enjoyed talking about the paranormal and writing about it. a lot of writing but its fun. also some group assignments but easy to get an A if you do all the writing the way she wants it.

Dr. Black is the sweetest English professor that I've had YET! Cramming a 15 week course into a 3 week summer session is not an easy task, but trust me, we have all learned SO MUCH in such a little time. I just wanted Dr. Black to know (if she actually reads these) that I was truly inspired!! You took my poetry writing ability to another level.

Very good at developing critical reading and writing skills, and everything done for academic purposes is done well. Course based entirely on the paranormal is interesting, but gets old after awhile, otherwise was a decent class, and the only one I managed not to skip... hehe.

Dr. Black is a nice lady, but is crazy about what she teaches. Everything is about paranormal things and she assigns an endless amount of work. If this class wasn't interesting to me, i'd hate it, but it is. That's the only thing getting me through this class. If you don't like paranormal things, do not date this course.

She is a good teacher and is highly knowlegable. She seems alittle crazy at first but that is what makes her awesome in the end. Yes, there is a heavey workload in this class but the work is interesting a very open ended. If you know how to summarize well this class will be easy!!! If you aren't interested in the paranormal don't take this class!!!

Great teacher. You have to earn your A. She's easy if you find the topic of the class fun and get interested in it. My class wrote a magazine as a whole and the classed was based on the paranormal. We wrote two papers but edited the crap out of them. She's fun!

Be prepared to write about the paranormal all semester. You get 3 free absences, then she deducts points. She's always willing to help if you need advice on your writing. You can always revise papers, and most of them are graded for completion. I wouldn't recommend her, but she's not awful.

Yes, she is a tough professor. But, it's really all worth it. If you want to become a better writer AND don't mind putting some effort into it, I highly recommend her. If you're lazy, don't take her. She assigns a lot of work, but is always willing to help. Definitely go to class, three free absences. I got an A.

In my experience, she was a great teacher. You write a lot of papers, nearly one a class. A lot of those are edits, rewriting. If you like the paranormal, you'll love this class. You get to write your own fictional short story at the end of the year. I ended with almost a 100%, if you do the work you're supposed to, and attend, you'll be fine.

It really isn't that hard you only have to write 2 true papers the rest of the papers you write are just summaries of readings in class also if you get a bad grade on a paper you can revise it actually you can revise any paper as many times as you want it's really not that hard of a class just boring

I fought this class day-in and day-out, but I learned more than I expected to, even though I LOATHED the paranormal theme. If you want an earnest challenge, take her class. Believe me-- she knows what she's doing. Just keep an open mind. (Great class for skeptics.)

I took her class during the summer and since the semester was shorter she didnt make us write any papers. just alot of group work. i liked her. i got an A. I deffinitely reccomend her at least for the summer semesters.

My class had a paranormal theme which I loved...so this is probably why I did so well in it. Overall Dr. Black is a very nice teacher who appreciates effort. Attend all/most of her classes and put in your best effort! There was only a few 3-page papers and a lot of class discussion. I would recommend her!

Although at the beginning of the semester it seems impossible to write a 20 page, single-spaced book, Dr. Black is amazing with helping you through the process and teaching you things that are so much more important in writing than you probably have previously learned! Taking her course has taught me a lot not only from her but fellow classmates!!

I loved Enlish 101 with Dr. Black! She really knew how to explain what was going on and if you didn't understand then she would further explain. We had to write a 20 page single-spaced book and at first I was scared but Dr. Black and my classmates helped out and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I loved that class!

I took Black's class the spring semester of 2013. The class did not require a text, due to us wring a book about our life. The class was fair and easy as long as you did what was required. She's hilarious and honest. However, due to her getting sick towards the end we had a new prof. (who I hated!)But despite that she has a great course.

Dr. Black is a great professor!! She is such a nice lady, and although writing a 20-25 page book single spaced seemed nearly impossible, she showed us it was. Do the assignments on time and attend class. Easy A. You bond with people in that class because of your book assignment and it opens your eyes to hardships that everyone faces.

Dr. Black is an awesome teacher. When you first meet Dr. Black you will this she is the coolest person ever. She is so deep and she makes you think. Writing your 20 paged book will be hard but by the time it is due you will be shocked at what you have done. Don't miss class! Do the work and you'll get the most out of this class!

Dr. Black is sooo nice! You can tell she cares about you doing well in her course. You'll have to write a 15-25 page story, but it's about your life! I had Dr. Black for a class that she had never taught before, so it was a bit unorganized. However, if you are ever unsure of something, Dr. Black is always there to make things clearer. She is very wise and personable and you can tell she is passionate about teaching. Plus she has hot chocolate, coffee, and tea for students during each class!

While her lectures can sometimes be long and boring, Dr. Black adds some interesting personal stories relating to what we are discussing in class. She gives you a lot of freedom with what you can write about.

Doctor Black is AMAZING! She gives us a lot of freedom and offers a lot of feedback. She brings in food and has a food in the back of her class open to all students. In her English 100 class, we were expected to write a 15-20 page paper and the topic was our choice. Make sure you do your homework because that's how you get your points

She is an inspiring woman. She has been through a lot and is very open about her past. These things will help you go on to be a great writer as she also gives great feedback. I've had her for 2 classes already and I love the freedom she gives me in my writing. She catches you when you are unorganized in your thoughts, which is very helpful.

Dr. Black is probably the best professor I've taken so far. She genuinely cares about her students and loves teaching. While the workload for the course seems like a lot she is very helpful and makes herself avaliable to help you outside of class. As long as you show up to class and do the work she's asks you to, you'll have no trouble passing.

No one professor has done more for my writing abilities in my academic career than Dr. Black. This course allowed me to explore new areas of writing and Dr. Black ensures you're successful with each new venture. She conferences often, is available outside of class, and offers superb feedback. If you want to learn to write, take Dr. Black.

I've taken a number of classes with Dr. Black. Her story is inspirational and she's among the most knowledgeable professors I've met at IUP with expertise in topics ranging from poetry to the law. Moreover, she's a master of feedback and constructive criticism. Dr. Black will make you a better writer, a better student, and a better person.

Dr. Black is hands down one of the greatest professors I've had at IUP. You write three papers throughout the semester and she allows you to revise the first two to get a better grade. If you do the work and actually make an effort you will pass the class. If you have the chance, I would take Dr. Black!

Most amazing professor. There is only 3 papers, 3 peer reviews, and hardly any in-class work. She lets you revise all your papers and she tells you what to fix. Also, she lets you fix any assignment to get a better grade. I fixed all my papers and she gave me a 100 on all them. She is an extremely easy grader. She also is super caring and funny.

Loved her. She connected with us and cared about our well being and wanted us to pass. Fair grader. Encouraged dialogue. One of my favorite classes because I knew everyone in there, we were comfortable with each other because every day we had to talk to each other. It was hard not to get an A on a paper because of critiques and revisions.

Dr. Black is a very understanding and fun professor. She is very good at opening your mind and accepting everyones opinions and point of views. Five minute writing and the discussions at the end of the semester were my favorite part. There are three papers you have to write. However, she gives you a lot of time and examples. Strict on attendance!
