if you are over 40 and taking an english class, take hers. Otherwise, if you are under 35, DO NOT TAKE HER. She teaches at Loyola also, so watch out, she sets her expectations way too high The only ones who passed the class were the 3 moms...

Good teacher, the problem is most of the kids don't want to work at class, so they only complain. If you don't do your home work and your papers...how the hell do u want to pass the class?? Come on kids, you are not in High School anymore.
Horrible Teacher...One of the worst i've ever had...don't take poetry with her, she sets her expectations extremely high to the point where even students with a 4.0 have a hard time getting an "A"... I enjoyed poetry reading and writing it until her class...
worst teacher i've ever had and not because i did not get a good grade (I finished the class with a high B).Be aware!!!She does not like foreign students, she yells for no reason and gives away test hints for students she likes.Do not take her. The class is alright. I would have liked it with another teacher.
The class wasn't as easy as I expected it to be. She gives you 5 papers and 10 journals to write and is a tough grader, not helpful, refers to the book most of the time. The only advice-follow her directions, don't miss classes and you'll do just fine. She just doesn’t like students that are not prepared for a class.
The class wasn't too bad. All you have to do is read the text and write the journals/ essays, which isn't all that hard. Her personality however... I think she's related to satan. Do not get on her bad side. Show up for every class and DO NOT be tardy. She is one of the scariest women I have ever met in my life. Yup, stay on her good side.
Horrible teacher. She belittles not only those that do not show up, but everyone in general. The homework is provided and easy to follow, but her grading scale is unnatural. Do not take her class. She contradicts herself on numerous occasions. Her homework assignments are very bland. In-class participation is similar to middle school.
If u want to lower ur GDP, go to her!
Extremely rude. If you express personal beliefs/opinions that are different from her in an assignment, she grades down for it. She was very harsh about missing 2 classes even when I had written consent from a doctor after contraction MONO! She had no tact at all when it came to criticism and was downright mean to students.
Although she may not be the warmest teacher or the most interesting, she isn't the devil! Students make her class sound like it is impossible and she is the worst teacher ever. Well you're obviously not going to pass the class if you don't do anything. Try doing everything you're supposed to and then you can complain.
Prof. Hahn isn't as bad as she is worked up to be. Yeah she can be really rude but to people who decide to be late and not show up to class but still expect to do well. Hello this is college, you have to show up. She is not hard, she just asigns alot of homework but you do learn from it.5 essays for the semester are required but not to bad overall.
She's not the most pleasant teacher. She can be kind of rude, especially if you're late to class. Requires more essays than other teachers. She can give you helpful tips as far as writing, but you have to ask and not be intimidated!
She's extremely rude. She tells you to correct your paper a certain way and then when you do she marks you down for something else that she did not think was wrong in your rough draft. She hates being bothered with questions or emails.

True, she's not the devil. Understandably, She has no tolerance for slackers. Also, she does not connect well with her students. I remember her throwing fits because people didn't staple their papers and scolding people for being late. Haha, She's scary and I hated that woman. oh yeah...easy work load

She is literally the WORST teacher I have ever had. She makes it abundantly clear that she hates her job and all of her students. Her grading technique is laughable, she grades soley on how she feels about u as a person¬ the actual work you do. I was in honors and AP english all through high school but took her class and got a D 4no good reason!
She was fine as a teacher. As some earlier posters wrote, most people complaining probably didn't work hard enough or were frequently late to/missed classes. While it is true she was a strict grader, she allowed for revisions. Most students (myself included) were too lazy to take advantage of that generous offer.
She is as all the previous comments say she is. She is rude, but she knows her stuff. You must do all the readings to get any kind of decent grade. Work load is as it should be for the type of class. Be specific in all requests and ask questions - don't leave any room for interpretation! She does verbally chastise in front of the entire class.
Don't take her. She's very rude and seems to have a problem with every topic you want to write about. I have always done well in English and I took her and got D's on my papers.
dont ever take this teacher. nobody in my class could stand her & many wanted to drop the class. she made everything difficult and couldnt even have a nice conversation because of how negative she was.she graded harder than any other english teacher ive ever had in my life and if she didnt agree with your opinion, she graded down. shes impossible!
She has no patience listening to minorities, especially those who have heavy accents. I noticed she gives them nasty looks. She even accused one of taking her textbook, when she had actually misplaced it. She then became overly emotional and took out her anger on the rest of the class. She was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She stares at the ceiling when she talks to you. The work was not always hard, but there was alot of it. She never had a problem embarassing a student and she just tries to make you feel stupid sometimes. She doesnt like it when you disagree with her. Its her way or the highway. She was terrible.
She's not very good at making western humanities an interesting subject. I also found myself feeling like I was back in middle school when it came to grading and how she analyzed papers and arguments. If you need the class for some gen ed requirement just know that it is only an OK class, its not good, but its not rediculously bad either.
Terrible teacher. Immature and throws tantrums when people make mistakes. Does not really know what she is talking about, but argues on behalf of it regardless.

She goes off on tangents and will never directly answer any of your questions. i would avoid taking one of her classes at all costs.

She's extremly rude to her students. No respect at all, but her class is not that difficult. There were four essays and you can re-write three of them. Little to no homework, but she's so mean. I did not enjoy coming to class at all. I would skip her, unless you want to get yelled at about nothing.
She seems to hate her job, and students in general because she was horrible at teaching the class. Easy tests and materials, but the papers were very difficult to get high grades on.
Hard grader. Lots of essay writing, not topics that are easy or fun to write about. For vocab test must know the dictionary deifinition word for word. Unless you are a suck-up she was not easy to get along with.
I was weary, considering the RMP rating, but Hahn isn't so bad. You can rewrite your papers as much as you need to. Has a low opinion of students and their capabilities. You won't learn much. If you write the papers and attend class, you'll do fine. Quizzes, no tests. Funny, in her own little way.
I took her for Business Writing and she isn't that bad actually. She's not super fun, and she isn't super bad, she's about in the middle. Her work is easy enough to do, and she is very helpful with comments on how to improve your work! She even lets you redo assignments for a better grade! She's really helped me with writing in the real world.
Worst teacher ever. Talks about students and their grades infront of the class. Never admits when she is wrong. Made summer school miserable for the entire class. Has a ridiculous grading scale which makes absolutely no sense. She shouldn't be a teacher because she is terrible. Takes alot of points of for ridiculous mistakes. DO NOT TAKE HER!

She was my worst experience at Harper College. Contrary to what other say about lazy students, she's an absolutely terrible teacher, whether you work hard or not. I got a 98% in the class and I still say the class and her were AWFUL.
Never in my life have I seen an adult be so disrespectful to student. She had no patience at all and she thought she knew everything and refused to listen to anyone else's point of view. She definitely picks favorites and she is an impossible grader. Not enjoyable at all.
This is the worst teacher that I have ever encountered.She may have had a good grasp on the information, but we'd never know because of her pride and self-righteousness that got in the way of education. Worst teacher I have EVER had through all of high school and college. She picked the text books because she liked the pictures. Her research paper, that she said was required for 101 classes, was graded as if it were your first research paper ever written. FYI, the paper itself 7-8 pages was worth 35 points out of 250. Do not take this teacher.
A very strange highly unprofessional teacher. Noticed she always gave the minorities in the class nasty looks like she didn't want them to be there. She even started berating the Indian guy next to me because he spoke with a heavy accent. I'm suprised she hasn't been fired.

She was extremely RUDE and disrespectful to students.she is also extremely argumentative about opinion questions she even made a girl cry in my class. She is also not clear about due dates on papers and such, she assign a due date then forget she assigned it and ask for it in class on the wrong day and act like its the students fault when its hers
Mrs. Hahn wants all of her students to do well. She was very knowledgeable about what she teaches. She has you read very interesting books. You are in an english class, so get ready to write and keep a journal. If you want to learn and enjoy a good class take this one.
She is an OK teacher, as long as you show up you will get easy points (5 pts). Also if you do all your work, you will receive a good grade. You do a lot of writing but its easy, 5 essays and 12 journals (referring to a book called Lunatic Express). Because you write a lot she does not give a final exam which is pretty cool.
She's mean for stupid reasons like forgetting to staple papers together. Nicest person outisde or after class but a total jerk during it. Don't talk and do the work to get an A. LOTS of awkward silence
Hahn is the most arrogant, inconsiderate human being I've ever encountered. We had to write a paper about what we're passionate about, and she wrote "wrong" next to every OPINION in my paper. Her grading makes NO sense and is 100% UNFAIR. I don't know how she's a teacher, even the tutoring center doesn't understand her comments on essays!!
very argumentative and opinion based professor. Very arrogant, and seems to think she is always right. Assigns 8 paragraph journal entries per chapter, referring to a book called lunatic express (pretty bad book). Which is absolutely ridiculous. Take me out of this class now, please.
She really is rude and makes you feel stupid, as for her grading it can be tough but you can rewrite them so your grade is bound to be a good one unless you do nothing in the class, wish I hadn't taken her class but It isn't that hard she is just hard to deal with
At the beginning of the semester she started out fine. I read the comments on this website and couldn't believe what I was reading. But sure enough, as the semester went on, she became the rudest teacher I have ever had. I love english, but this women makes me despise coming to the class. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.

Professor Hahn is by far one of the worst professors I have had at Harper. She is rude, degrading and makes you feel extremely stupid if your answers are not up to par. She is not clear on her assignments and is constantly posting assignments incorrectly. If you want a teacher who is going to degrade you and your assignments then she is the best.
Absolutely the rudest human being on this planet. Has this very elitist arrogant demeanor where she holds herself to be the pinnacle of knowledge. Worst books I've ever read. Assigns 2 page journal entries every single week about the chapter. Disagree with her? Don't even try to voice you're opinion you'll get owned by smart ass remarks. Dont take!

Worst class I've ever taken at harper, she's rude, poor at explaining her grading criteria and overall a terrible professor. She is simply should not be a teacher, I got a decent grade and I still felt like I needed to say something. Skip her, she will make your semester suck.
class originally signed up for an amazing teacher, but Hahn is now going to be our substitute for awhile. a couple of students and i reported to the head of the department about and it didn't do us any good. she's been teaching for 20 years so she will never get fired. my whole class and all the reviews on here are flabbergasted! there's no words!
I signed up with a different teacher but she has been our substitute teacher. She is very rude and tough grader, everything is wrong! A lot of homework everyday, We have to write 12 journals, each journal has 7 paragraphs and four 100 point essays! In addition to other reading assignments homework. Don't take with her unless you want to do homework
Terrible textbook, doesn't explain things. Not a good teacher, I tried my hardest to get in touch with her when I wasn't understanding her insane grading criteria and she was very slow responding. Me and several other students in the class all ended up with bad grades even though we worked hard. Skip her don't bring down your gpa.
Worst. Teacher. Ever. EVER. Avoid her at all costs. Completely unfair in her grading, if your OPINION doesn't match her own she takes points off, no idea why she is still allowed to teach (tenure? bogus.) And if you happen to have any major life events go down while taking her class, be prepared for her to not give you ANY kind of break. AVOIDDDDDD
She is not an easy teacher. Don't be discouraged with her personality, she wants everyone to preform to the best of their abilities. I personally though she was an amazing grader and gave great feedback. The journals sucked, but if you put in effort, you're fine. You have to put in work, give your all and ask for feed back to get an A.
Honestly, I was a bit hesitant to take this class based on the reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The syllabus was clear as to the assignments each week and the amount of time to cover the material seemed adequate. You do have to read and watch YouTube videos, but reading is a requirement for all classes! OnlyClass+DuringSummer
She thinks that everyone else's opinion is completely wrong and if you have anything to say otherwise she thinks your opinion "stupid". She won't hesitate to yell at you or call you out for your work in front of the entire class. She gives a lot of journal and readings and is not lenient on late work or missing work.
If you can write an argument paper and just need the credit for doing the work, go ahead. She has clear expectations and is well-organized. But if you want an enriching English class experience, take someone else. She's not very good at engaging with students or encouraging student discussion. A lot of her lectures have a clear political lean too.
Unclear on what she wants on her assignments. doesn't know the material she assigns to read and will dock you for her error. Gives you a lot to do each week. her comments were rude in my opinion. She will grade you on what she thinks is right, and not objectively. only take her class if you need too. glad i didn't have to take her class in person.
Definitely would not take this class again. She is very unprofessional and a very hard grader. I have disability accommodations and she scrutinized me multiple times for utilizing it. Beware because she does not accept late work and is a very very tough grader. Even if you follow her rubric you still have a large chance of getting a C or worse.
She can miss class as much as she wants. AND SHE WILLL!!!!! But if you miss class you wont be able to make up your grade.
Will give you instructions for an essay and you do it following it strictly, but in the end she will go against her own instructions, say you didn't follow them and make you lose points. Also, prepare to not have enough time on quizzes, ONLY 7 MINUTES!

I took this as an online course in Spring 2021. It was my first humanities class. I think I did rather well, even without the book. I just coasted off of what I learned in previous history and literature courses. Hahn does come off as a bit prideful if a minor grading mistake is pointed out in an assignment (all questions were done, not 5/6).
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PROFESSOR. I have disability accommodations and she seemed to be unwilling to fufill them but only did it per the law. There were times when I would answer a question she asked in class and get told OUTRIGHT "thats a stupid answer". DO NOT TAKE HER.
Get ready to hit the ground running. Harsh grader that nitpicks small irrelevant details in papers. Also, has a rude attitude with feedback. She offers surveys to her students to give her feedback in return which are based on the opinion of the student and she will give you 0's on these surveys (which are 10 points) which will hurt your grade.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever encountered. She grades everything based on her opinion, rather than the objective material. Your attendance is mandatory, but not hers. Lectures are boring, long, and essentially teach nothing we didn't all learn in high school. Told me I didn't know what it's like to be a minority. I'm publicly Jewish...
The absolute worst ever!! There are so many other english professors out there, do not make the same awful mistake I did by choosing her. She will ruin your GPA and make you feel worthless and stupid. There is nothing enjoyable about this class. It will mentally drain you.
She's always late to class, goes in on people who don't agree with her opinions, and grades things wrong almost every single time. I asked her to re-read one of my papers(there are many) and it took her over a month. When she finally did it, she gave me 2 extra points even though she said she'd give more than 10.

Horrible teacher. I can say with 100% confidence that she is the worst teacher I have ever had the displeasure of having. She is extremally rude and ridiculously forgetful and will get mad at you if you bring up anything that even some what signifies that she did anything wrong from misprints, grades, unclear questions, etc. AVOID THIS TEACHER!!!!!
I would not recommend taking her class. Attendance is recorded daily and you can get up to 25 points taken off your grade for missing ONE day of class. Her grading criteria is extremely unclear and she has trouble explaining why she gives the grades she does when asked. She is also not the nicest.
Register for your english class ASAP because they fill up fast and her class will be the only one left so you'll be stuck with her.

Wow, she is terrible. She is outright rude and does not know how to run a class. If something isn't how she likes it, she will make you feel stupid about it. If there was an option to rate zero, I would.
Lots of homework, be ready to write 2-3 paragraphs for each assignment. Lots of material to read from the book and yet half of the homework questions are from extra material. She does not post the hard stuff till it is too late to get out of the class and get your refund from Harper. Be weary if you take her class but very organized online class!
Horrible. Failed to let me make up work even though I had a medical excuse with proof. Tough grader and if she doesn't agree with your view or opinion she will make it known. Get ready for confusing essays that she will leave horrible feedback on.
