Profesor is nice and class goes fast, but the class does take effort to get a good grade.
Decent class, and she teaches well. She's fun and nice, and offers to help frequently. Also, the answers are on her powerpoints, you just have to figure out her code (look at the dots in the lower corners of the slide shows...)
Excellent teacher! Her astronomy class was lots of fun. She is always willing to help her students and has a laid back, fun attitude.
Her tests are hard and she doesn't curve her grades
Didn't explain the labs well, but was there to help. Always write all of the equations and double check with her while you're doing the lab and you can get all 10's!
Okay, so I love astronomy and was really excited about taking the class but by the end of the semester I was screaming get me out of here. Dr. Likkel plays favorites like no other. Luckly I was one of them but I wouldn't have been it would have sucked. She doesn't teach, just puts up power points.
Dr. Likkel doesn't explain anything. She thinks she is extremely intelligent so she just rambles on about meaningless astronomy stuff that no one understands. Everyone in my class could not wait to leave.
awful teacher!
she's really nice, but doesn't explain stuff very well in class. her tests are harder than you would expect.
She's a fun lady. I really enjoyed her class even though astronomy isn't my thing. I learned a lot though. She gives really detailed notes, and since I took a FYE class, we had homework and that helped a ton.
Dr. Likkel is a wonderful prof. The subject can be difficult but she will certainly work with you if you take the time to ask. If you are at all interested in astronomy check her out, she knows her stuff and conveys it well
Test were not that hard if you study and go to class.
She's pretty nice if you aren't stupid..
Dr. Likkel is the sweetest teacher I've had! Her corny jokes make sense and she will explain if you ask her. Those who say she doesn't explain are wrong, just take the time. She is a busy woman with the planetarium, but she gives you the time! This is an easy class and very little homework; just pay attention and you'll do well!
We don't get too many assignments but they're pretty easy when we do get them. She goes over most of the stuff that is on the test and she's a lot of fun and interested in astronomy.
She is an awesome teacher. She will make sure you undertsand, and really cares how people do in her class. It's pretty easy to do well because she really lets you know what is important for the tests. She's really funny too, so class is fun. Take it!
Great teacher, with a good sense of humor. May move through material a little quickly, but is more than willing to explain in further detail during office hours. Overall great class.
She's a great teacher! Great sense of humor! Tries to make class fun! I highly recommend this class! Very little homework and the homework there is fairly easy. She's always cheerful and going to her class can be a day brightner!
i dont like this class. she doesnt present the material well at all! ahhh!!! but the movie clips are great!! ( all 5!)
shes nice and she has a lot of corny jokes, but she makes no sense, she knows a lot--just not how to reach out to her students and let them in on her knowledge
She was pretty funny, but I didn't feel as though she presented the course material clearly. She was intimidating to go to for help, too. The class is also very fast-paced.
Very helpfull with homework, an interesting lecturer with an good sense of humor
She is very funny, and extremely helpful. But her powerpoints are scattered and not that very helpful on their own.
awesome professor
I'm not a sciency person at all, but the class wasn't that bad. It was very difficult for me, but I earned every bit of a C+ and I was pretty proud of it at the end. Dr. Likkel is great for Astronomy even if you aren't very good. She's very nice, and especially helpful. Take her for Astronomy though, she's better with that than with physics.
At first she seems a little crazy, but shes a good prof. Lots of derivations, and may have a little bit of difficulty explaining things clearly in class, but is ALWAYS willing to help as long as you show an interest in learning. If you sleep/text/don't show up to class, don't expect help. But if you do she's available ALOT and always helpful
Got good grade in class but lectures were all over the place/somewhat irrelevant. Had trouble explaining things.
Dr.Likkel assigns a LOT of homework, which most people complain about, but it really only takes 3-4 hours to do per week, and she's EXTREMELY helpful if you just go and talk to her. But, really, with Physics you can't really understand the material w/o doing lots of homework. She's really nice and pretty funny - overall, not a bad class. Take Likkel!
Good teacher for a hard class. Requires a lot of book work, but then again physics is pretty math based so book work is to be expected. If you're taking physics anyway, take it with Likkel.
no good. doesnt teach- ADD to the max. unorganized
Dr. Likkel is the worst teaching prof i have ever had. she doesn't know how to teach or at least she acts like she doesnt. if you want a good grade you better either have a lot of experience or be good at teaching yourself concepts from a textbook. please, if you value your gpa and dont want to lose intelligence, DO NOT TAKE!
Unorganized in class, not good on the fly. Much better in one-on-one situation outside class, lots of office hours, answers emails promptly.
This class was ridiculously hard. It was not fun and if you don't know your material, your going to have to teach yourself. She is extremely helpful outside of class but in class made absolutely no sense. She had cancer and so we had 4 different teachers which made it harder. This class just plain sucks!
terrible teacher. too busy making jokes to actually explain material. didn't learn anything from lecture, had to rely on the book for my info. assignments and notes not clear at all. nice personality, but doesn't know how to teach students who know nothing about astronomy. very unorganized and serious case of ADD or something.
Funny person but bad professor. The class is interesting, the little bit I could understand. She knows a lot about the material but is terrible at getting the material across to the students. It's a fun class if you're able to learn stuff on your own.
Nice personality but terrible teacher. Very unclear and jumps around with topics. Tests are very hard and complicated.
Astronomy is a hard subject, and I could see why people may get frusterated at the professor, but Professor does a great job explaining the concepts and an even better job keeping her lectures interesting (even if the topic is extremely boring). Plus, she's gotta be one of the coolest professors at UWEC and really makes an effort to talk to you.
Really funny professor. Disorganized but overall easy to follow. She lets you use bookmarks on the tests with most the equations on them! so no need to memorize those. Very helpful outside of class, lots of office hours. And really if you go to class she gives to answers to most of the homework problems
DO NOT TAKE ASTRONOMY WITH LIKKEL!!!! I can't stress enough how horrible this prof is! She is extremely disorganized, skips around, and is not helpful! Tests are extremely hard!!!
Really interesting class. Dr. Likkel is a little unorganized at times but she knows a lot about the material. Her tests are pretty easy if you study and read the book. I really enjoyed this class with Dr. Likkel.
Good teacher and helpful professor. I like her but the subject is too difficult. Homework is not easy to score.
I love Professor Likkel, she is SO helpful and understanding. Went into the class thinking it was going to be a terrible general ed course but it ended up being my favorite class this semester.
Likkel is not the worst teacher in the world. She doesn't do a terrible job lecturing and she has tons of office hours if you like to get help outside of class. Tests are very difficult and progressively more difficult throughout the semester. Final is comprehensive and very challenging. There are definitely worse teachers out there you could get.
Not the worst professor in the world, but far from the best. Tests are extremely hard. There are a lot of activities/short essays and homework, easy points. Final is comprehensive but extremely easy if you review notes. I didn't use the textbook once. AND! you get to go on the roof of phillips. :D
I had Likkle for lab. She is pretty strict on what has to be in your lab notebook and in your lab analysises. But I hear the other lab instructors weren't that great either.
Not an easy class. The tests are okay if you review the tests given the year before and read the book. Not all that informative in class as she simply reads the power point slides. She's not the worst professor, but I probably wouldn't take another class with her.
Likkel is super nice! i think she is a good prof if you pay attention and come to class. She is excited about astronomy and will help you if you don't understand something. The tests are hard but i did well in the class with a lot of studying and i read the book. I would take her again.
Spends too much time on things that she doesn't include on exams, and pretty much breezes through subjects she covers extensively on exams. Her lectures can range from fairly interesting to extremely boring, and she presents material to us like we're small children instead of university students.
This class is horrible!! The lectures are pointless! The tests are extremely hard. She can be helpful if you have time every week to go get help, otherwise good luck on the tests.
dr likkel is a very kind person but to be honest i had NO idea what was going on in her class. the homework, exam, and quiz questions are all worded weird and are very confusing. there is a lot of out of class work, along with basically teaching yourself along the way. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Dr. likkel's lectures are useless. Going to class is pointless since all she does is read off of the power points. Also her exams are extremely hard and somethings on the exam you don't even learn in class. There is also a lot of outside work that can take a long time. I would stay away from her!
Dr. Likkel is nice, enthusiastic, and tries to be helpful. I understood the material without taking any previous astronomy classes. Most tests are fairly easy if you review the powerpoints and previous tests, and the final was not comprehensive. I did not use the book once, even with the many out of class assignments. Overall, I enjoyed the class.
Dr. Likkel is a great professor, I recommend her class to everyone. It's an easy class, and attendance is not mandatory. She's pretty easy to follow in her lectures, and she does a good enough job that you don't need to read the book. Take her.
I love astronomy but this class sort of killed it for me. She is really nice but I was so confused. She tends to talk in loops and there are some things that she says where I don't really think they have anything to do with astronomy or space. I was expecting much more out of this class. Very disappointing.
Dr. Likkel is one of those professors who is enthused by her subject and really enjoys teaching it. She is helpful - she took me step by step through how to use D2L. Her exams are challenging if you don't come to the lectures, but what did you expect?
She's the worst teacher I've had. She spends way too much time explaining the simple ideas and expects you to know how to do complex problems on the homework which is way too many problems as well. Test questions are often on topics that were hardly covered making it very hard to know what to study for. If you can take someone else's class.
We did absolutely nothing in class, and the tests were on modules we had to watch once a week and do homework on, on D2L. The modules were just videos of her talking over power points. I took 15 pages of notes and still failed most of the tests. This is a 100 level class, no way should it be this hard.
Dr. Likkel's, Rhymes with Pickle, Astr 115 class is great! I would HIGHLY recommend!
Fails to appropriately explain the conceptual side of physics and instead spends the majority of class time running through examples from the homework. Concepts are learned via the homework which can eat up an entire weekend. On the otherhand, Dr. Likkel is a fair and generally helpful professor towards her students. Tests and grading are fair.
The class is a hybrid. The lectures are on D2L and you do activities and go over the important parts of the online lectures in class. She's more than willing to help but the tests are incredibly hard. I had a tutor for weeks and a review session right before the exam and i only had a D-
Dr. Likkel is pretty funny but she grades really tough. This class was way to hard for a level 100 course. I would not suggest taking it with her. She will help you if you go in during office hours but I did that for most of the semester and never got better than a B- on her tests.
She is really good if you come to her for help, but her lectures are sometimes hard to understand because she jumps all over and you don't really know what she's trying to say.
Lectures are very monotone. Easy to doze off.
My favorite part of this class was that lectures were online. She would go over homework, activities and questions in class but all the long lectures were online. Deadlines were reasonable and Likkel is easy to talk to about assignments. She is a very passionate professor and gets very excited about astronomy events.
After taking PHYS with Dr. Likkel, I can honestly say that Astronomy is my favorite subject. While the tests were difficult and required a lot of studying, she provides a lot online to study and she is always open to fielding questions during class. She is also very witty and just an overall positive person, I would recommend taking her class(es).
This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. The tests are nearly impossible, and Likkel herself is an awesome person, but not a great professor.
Dr. Likkel is an awesome Professor! She enjoys people and physics. Class and hw. can be challenging at times, but she is always willing to spend hours upon hours helping you learn it if you really want to. Compared to other teachers, her tests are easier, generally right from the hw. If you want to succeed and are willing to work, you will.
Tests are tough!!!! You can study all you want, but Likkel doesn't care and adds the stupidest and hardest questions to the tests.
Hardest tests I've ever taken in my life, and I'm not exaggerating. I watch all of the video lectures, do all the homework, read from the book, activities, everything. Tests have questions that use terms that nobody has ever heard about. Very tough class, and there's a ton of homework she makes you do. Ridiculous hardness for a 100 level class.
I had never failed an exam before taking this class. Unfortunately this class changed that... I would study way harder and longer for this class and get much worse grades. Find other science credits to take for your GE's
tests are very difficult I failed my first test of my life in this class
She was my professor for astronomy and it is a tougher class. I has taken astronomy in high school so that helped a little bit but the class requires more. I watched all the video lectures and did all the homework but still had problems on the tests. The tests were the hardest part. Be ready to study a lot.
Don't take. She is the worst. When taking her exams, I would come across questions and think, "There is no possible way that she could have worded this question any more poorly." Exam material was inconsistent at best. One exam only had questions straight from homework. The next exam had no questions from the homework. Waste of a class.
Lectures are online, making attending class not-mandatory, however it aids understanding. Activity answers are given in class, which are easy points. A very knowledgeable professor, and willing to help students outside of class. Master schedule has entire semester laid out clearly. Listening to the lectures and taking clear notes is essential.
You need to go to class, but you also have to do just as many online lectures outside of class, and then on top of those things you need to do homework and study for tests if you want an A. For being a level 1 course, there is far too much work to be put into this class. She is also just awful at teaching. Strongly advise not taking her.
The material was hard, but she always made time for questions. The homework was easy, but the tests were much harder. Her classes were interesting.
Likkel is pretty chill. She is hilarious and sarcastic. In this class you have to watch videos outside of class and then get quizzed on them with clicker questions. Pretty easy if you stay caught up. The final is cumulative, but other than that I would definitely recommend this class and prof. I dislike science but found this class interesting.
The best part about the class was having Fridays off. Likkel is funny and cares a lot about astronomy but her lectures are pointless. The only reason to go is to get the answers to homework and activities. It is not impossible to get an A but you need to study the video lecture notes and homework. Homework is easy but tests are harder.
This class was branded as a hybrid, but the online work and videos were much more important than lectures. The content is somewhat tough to comprehend and her dry delivery of the material does not help. She comes off as condescending and out of touch with the students needs. If you are taking this for a general, FIND A DIFFERENT COURSE/PROF!!!
Dr. Likkel has an excellent passion for astronomy, and is easy to communicate with. There is a large inconsistency between exam & lecture. Exams will have questions made to confuse and test you on concepts, but they are profoundly worded and do not make sense in the context of lecture material. Not recommended for a GE class.
Lectures and homework are easy. Tests are long and difficult, and also a large part of your grade. Professor Likkel is a nice person though, which makes it easier. She's very accessible outside of class and will give you credit for in class participation if you miss.
Dr. Likkel is passionate, nice, & funny. The setup of the class is kinda strange since all the material is in the online videos and the only reason to go to class is to get clicker points & homework and activity answers. I think the exams are relatively easy if you study; just be ready to do lots of homework and studying! I enjoyed the class.
Picky grader. Never once got a 100% on any of her lab reports. Easy to talk to though.
A quality professor. Not the most interesting during lecture, but she gets the job done. Excellent outside of class, especially for stargazing and planetarium.
Dr. Likkel is AMAZING. She has a great sense of humor and is extremely passionate about her courses which leads to very well explained concepts. She truly goes above and beyond. Above all else in this class, while she encourages you to succeed, she also wants you to enjoy what youre learning and most assignments are focused on personalization! 5+
