She is a really cool professor. She teaches with pretty concise book organization so read what she's laid out for you in the syllabus and do the review questions. Her quizzes are straight from her powerpoints and her lectures. She is really nice and totally helpful. She's nice and thoughtful of her students. Easy theology class, take it!
great teacher. Funny and helpful. Easy class.
Quizzes are not that easy, you may understand the material but the way she asks questions is unclear and confusing! She talks extreamly fast and erases notes off the board before you can write them down. The easiest part of the class is the one page responses she gives ever other week. The midterm was HELL and she provided a week study guied.
Pretty easy core class. Alternating weekly quizzes and short writing responses are both fairly easy to do well on. Lauren returns work quickly and knows everyone's name; seems to genuinely want everyone to do well and like her subject. Lots of people had a hard time with the midterm; it requires studying, don't blow it off. Recommended.
I found this core class to be really easy. One of my favorite professors that I have had. There were weekly quizzes or responses. The midterm you do have to study for, but right out of the notes. Gives you possible essay questions
Honestly, she has a chili pepper. That's why Benda took her ;). Honestly, great class and a lot of fun. Study and you will do fine, SHE WANTS YOU TO DO WELL! She is awesome and for a 9am class, I never missed because I always looked forward to going. You won't ever compare to our class though, well, you won't compare to me...
LOT'S OF READING!!This course will be extremely hard if you do not keep on track with the reading and participate in class discussions. The midterm was very difficult even though I studied and prepared all of the essay questions she provided. I would not recommend this class if you are looking for an "easy" core class.
Lauren was great! She was very straight forward with her expectations. Especially helpful, very approachable. Easy to get an A in the course. Very nice woman!!!
Lauren is awesome, she's a great teacher and it's not hard to do well in her class. I definitely recommend her
I love her, but the class was so hard. everyone failed the tests and she had to give a retest. She is a very harsh grader.
She's a really great teacher who is super passionate about what she is teaching. I love her enough to want to take he upper level class next semester. She expects a lot however so expect to study when it comes time for tests. Also if you have taken theology in highschool you will be fine.
Decreased amount of reading from previous classes. 1 test (difficult but doable if you study), in-class debate, final paper. She will literally read your paper as many times as you want before its due and tell you what to fix. TAKE NOTES in class and read (at least before the quiz). She seems intimidating but email her and she is VERY helpful.
Lauren is such a great professor. I have had her for 3 semesters and would gladly take her again if i get the chance. The only test we have this semester is a final. She gives quizzes every other week and the other weeks a one page reflections are due always on Friday. She's really funny and makes random jokes during lecture.
Essays for tests given to you beforehand so that's a plus. Multiple choice questions are confusing and trick questions. O'Connell gives scatterbrain notes,. Not clear, or orderly, and she likes to jump around. Material is hard to understand and overall read. I wouldn't recommend taking a class with her unless it will be isolated and your only focus
Lauren is awesome! She relates to students very well because she is so young. Her lectures are actually interesting and if you do the reading, look at the study guides, and take good notes in lecture, her exams aren't really all that difficult. I thought I wasn't understanding the subject well at first but I got a 90% on the first exam.
Dr. O'Connell is strict on attendance but is very nice. She gives out a study guide before each test and lets you ask questions about it during class. There is a forum, quizzes, and responses but the busy work is doable. She lets you choose how much quizzes, responses, and participation count towards your grade. She wants you to pass and do well.
Sweetest lady ever and willing to help. She goes above and beyond to help you succeed in her course if you go to her. Participation matters. Be ready to read.
Her class lectures are really good, and she's helpful. Her notes are all over the place, and you need your notes because the exams go purely off your notes. Her quizzes and Tests are confusing because she words them differently than how she would talk during class. 2 exams, 1 final, hw due before every class. Quiz every other week.
love her, she rocks and is hilarious. get ready to participate tho... also a tough grader
Love her super interesting class u will want to show up just so u don't miss out quizzes are hard true false so just be lucky I didn't have to read all the material to get an A. ask questions and she will tell u exactly what she expects on the test.
Lauren is one of the nicest, most knowledgeable professors I've had. She may seem intimidating at first, but trust me, SHE WANTS TO HELP YOU. JUST ASK!! She has an answer to every question, and is passionate about her students and what she teaches. She does give a decent amount of hw and quizzes, but if you're in class, you'll do fine! TAKE HER!!!!
Best professor in the Theo department at Loyola! She is super funny and awesome. Make sure you do the reading and show up to class because participation is a lot of your grade. Easy A if you actually do the readings, and show up. Exams are not that bad. She's for sure my favorite professor at Loyola. Would take again 100%
She's an amazing lecturer, gives clear study guides. 4 response papers, usually about 1 page. 6 T/F quizzes, drops lowest one. A mid-term and a final. Forum post based off the readings. If you pay attention during class and speak up every once and while you basically set for the exams.
Lauren was a great professor, but it was rough taking her the first semester of my freshman year. She expects a lot for a core class and she's a tough grader. She comes off as intimidating, but she's actually a very nice person. If you ask her for help, she's more than happy to assist you. She helped make theology less terrible!
Amazing professor, her lectures are so informative so its a good idea to be in class regularly or it will be hard to catch up. Very clear in her expectations, and is always willing to help, so there is really no reason anyone should do poorly in the class. She's funny and makes the material interesting enough that you want to learn it.
Professor O'Connell was easily one of the best professors I have had. She is super helpful and kind of sassy in a way that makes class interesting. Also, she gives out study guides and test essay outlines that she will go over and correct if you send them to her before the exam. She was awesome.
Dr. O'Connell is very lecture-heavy. If you don't go to class you'll miss certain things that will most definitely pop up on quizzes or tests in the future. Her exams are really hard, especially if you don't prepare ahead of time. She gives the opportunity to email rough drafts to her ahead of time, which I highly recommend doing.
Best professor i've taken at Loyola so far. She's very lecture heavy, but makes it interesting. She gets SO into the material, you can tell she cares about it. She cracks jokes during lecs that are funny. great at explaining concepts if you don't understand. Take advantage of office hours to go over the study guides she provides before exams.
I absolutely loved Lauren, she has been by far one of the best professors I have had at Loyola. She truly cares about the material she is teaching and about her students. Participation is extremely important and she is a very tough grader, but she gives good feedback. Definitely not an easy class and a lot of work, but extremely interesting.
Dr. O'Connell is awesome, her study guides before exams are always super helpful and there is rarely a dull moment in her lectures. Showing up to class is definitely in your best interest as she covers material in depth which will help you on short answer/essay questions on the exams.
Dr. O'Connell is amazing! I took her for Theo 100 and then the following semester for 232. She is such a caring and passionate professor. Class is never boring because of the high energy she brings to the classroom. Although the workload can be challenging at times, Dr. O'Connell makes it doable and gives great feedback. Take this professor!
She was nice and approachable. SHE IS A DIFFICULT instructor. A lot of reading!!! This class is not easy! Take her if you have no options left. Her exams were the worst and there is no mercy. 1 instance of extra credit worth max 2pts. ThisClass will push you and she assumes you already have a good background on the material. Imposibble to get an A
This class is hard. I read 85% of the time readings were assigned and still struggled. Her class relies solely on quiz grades, one presentation and participation(you have to participate every day to get a 90% in this category). The final is cumulative and is 30% of your final grade. Do not take this class if you don't have to, not worth it.
Grade is reliant on participation (which you need to actually talk to get a decent grade for, 15%) a group project (a disgusting 25%) a final (30%) some papers and quizzes. for essays she expects you to put in all the little details of her lectures which is a little obnoxious. Honestly, take a different class.
I honestly came into this class to fulfill a core requirement. However, her thorough knowledge of the subject, which actually got me interested in what we were learning. Her readings, passages, and response papers make you think critically, and if you are willing to put in the effort and do the readings on time, you will be fine.
Definitely one of the toughest professors I've taken at Loyola. Very lecture heavy, and really expects students to CAREFULLY read all texts. It was interesting, however not a subject up my alley, which resulted in my lack of caring for the course.
Considering how young she is, she is an outstanding professor! She wants students to understand what she's talking about & is willing to make time for you if you put in the effort to meet up with her. The class is very difficult, but do-able; it's a matter of how much effort & time you're willing to put into the class that determines your grade.
Get ready to read a lot. GO TO CLASS! If you didn't understand the readings, you have to go to class because she talks about what you read in more depth. Recommend taking notes to help you with the final/midterm. Quizzes are hard, tricky, but doable if you study. Take her!!
I LOVE her. If you actually want to learn take her, but her 200 levels are CHALLENGING. It is not easy core whatsoever. If you are looking for an easy A in theology don't take her. She had 3 debates, 2 exams and a final, a couple small response papers throughout, and you had to read A LOT for each class. I would recommend her for a 100 level theo.
Heavily discussion based, so the class is more communicative rather than instructive. Participation and attendance matter. Easy B+ Workable A. She herself said that she doesn't make her classes easy A. Topics are timely and interesting, I learned a lot and appreciate this course. One Issue: She doesn't prepare you well for her exams though.
I am not going to lie: this class was HARD. If you're looking for a super easy core class, don't take her. However, she's really nice and an EXCELLENT professor. She's very passionate and will help you out if she knows you are interested in learning and doing well. Overall, great person, difficult class, but doable.
She is a handful. Her personality was too strong for me and I found myself easily annoyed by her comments when she talks to herself. Everything on the exams are all in lecture so you need to keep extra attention. Her notes are all over the place and when I refer to mine I easily become confused. Her quizzes are SUPER difficult to understand.
This is definitely a challenging course and you really have to work for your grade but Dr. O is really there to help you succeed. She's extremely approachable and gives you outlines of all her exams. Her quizzes are the most challenging part of her course, but if you do the readings, go to class, and study for them they're not too bad.
Even though it was challenging I walked away knowing SO much! Her class was very interesting and she is such a bubbly/funny person. Her quizzes are pretty hard but they aren't worth too much and she does offer extra credit! Her feed back is very helpful and she is very accessible out of class! Take thorough notes because her tests are lecture based
Professor O'Connell is a super hard grader, but makes the information fairly interesting. She's super helpful outside of class and is always willing to work with students, but it's super important to attend the lectures or you honestly won't understand anything. Good note-taking skills are important because her lectures are all over the place.
I didn't take Tier 1 Theo b/c Honors waived me out of it, so I did not know much about theology going in. She is understanding of this and that students forget so she gave the class many Theo 100 refreshers. She gives exam prompts ahead of time so you can prepare, and you can even send her outlines. She's energetic and funny- you'll never be bored.
Dr. O'Connell is a really fun and energetic lecturer and makes the subject very interesting and fun. Going to her lectures matter and taking good notes during them too
Lauren is an amazing person, she makes a long theology course so much better! She always respects others opinions and the views of different Christians in our class. The class isn't an easy A, but you will enjoy it.
She is an awful teacher. Her notes are more confusing than Calculus. She is a horrible presenter and talks about her opinion of the subject more than the theologians.
Dr. O'Connell is very nice and smart. She was just way too hard for a core class. I have never taken theology before and it felt more like a tier two class. It was the hardest class I've taken because she is a really tough grader and a lot of the readings are difficult to understand. If you are not looking for a hard class, I wouldn't recommend her
Lauren is amazing! Her lectures are very informative and will keep you awake for the entire class period. She lets you express your thoughts and will never make anyone feel uncomfortable in class. Although she has a bunch of readings, she will discuss them all in detail the next day in class. She is not an easy A, but its totally possible.
Lauren was a fantastic lecturer. For someone who had no interest in theo entering this course, I found the class to be quite enjoyable. My only reservations are that she does have very high expectations for a core class and was unclear of her expectations on assignments. You definitely have to work for an A.
I loved Lauren's class, she was very outgoing and informative. She was very easy to reach outside of class and made sure to email you back as soon as possible. Although she was very lecture heavy, it was bearable and she made it enjoyable.
Heres the thing with Lauren, she gives readings and expects you to talk about them. This doesn't mean you have to do ALL of the readings. Read one article, say a thing about it. Boom, there's your participation for the day. Do this everyday, thats 20% of your grade as 100%. Go to her BEFORE a paper is due for MEANINGFUL feedback. She is amazing.
She's a great professor, you just have to show up and do the readings. She's a tough grader but as long as you participate in lectures it's easy to get an A in the class.
Lauren is a nice person, but as a professor I would have chosen someone else. This class absolutely drained every last ounce of energy that I had. I wasn't prepared at all for this class, and I hated the class.I would deliberately not look both ways when I crossed the street on Tuesdays because I hoped I would get hit by a car on the way to class.
Theo 100 is supposed to be core class, not an advanced theology course. I am sure no one in my class is a Theology major. She is also super confusing when lecturing and mid-lecture will mention things that don't have anything to do with what we are talking about. I've been in Catholic school all of my life and I've never been so confused.
Overall not a bad professor but the amount of work/content given for a CORE class is literally insane. I went to a tutor for my midterm and she said the content we were going over, she hadn't learned about until a 300 level class. If you understand Theology it may be easier but if you want an easy A by all means avoid Dr. O.
Lauren is awesome! She is super nice and helpful. Her class is a lot of reading but she explains the reading the next class in lecture and you just need to say one thing a day for participation. She is a slightly tough grader but if you put in work and meet with her if you're confused you'll be totally fine. She makes theology interesting.
Dr. O'Connell is inspirational, intelligent, and super kind. I look forward to class time, and I am taking a class of hers next semester! It is not an easy A, but if you show up and take good notes on the lecture, you will get an A. She also will check work before it's due, which guarantees an A. I am learning a lot and the class is engaging!
For a 100 level class, this class was DIFFICULT. I would not recommend this class if you are a BEGINNER level Christian, you will most definitely be lost like I was. Be ready to read at least 2 long readings before each class. Lectures interesting, midterm and finals questions not matching up. Lauren is an awesome professor, maybe for a 300 level.
Lauren is overall a really good professor. She'll help you with anything that you need help with. However, she assumes that everyone has a lot of prior knowledge about theology. As someone who doesn't, it was hard to understand a lot of things she was talking about. She's a good professor, but maybe not for a 100 level class.
Dr. O is the best! I had little religious education prior coming to Loyola, but that was definitely not an issue for this class. She really does care about her students and always answered the (many) questions I had. Easy writing assignments as well as a midterm and final exam, but she gave a study guide and allowed you to email her to review it.
Dr. O is such a great professor! I took her for THEO 100 and again for 232 and am so glad I did. While she does require a lot, she is very clear about her expectations and is always willing to go the extra step for her students. Participation does matter a lot. the final grade is based on in class participation, a midterm, and a take home final.
Dr. O'Connell does a great job connecting passages from the Bible to modern situations. She makes the class very interesting and is always open to hearing what her students have to say. She expects her students to have prior knowledge about the Bible and Christianity which was hard for me because I am not a Christian. There is A LOT of reading.
I loved this class because of Prof O'Connell's interesting lectures. There is a lot of readings and it is super important to read them and participate. There are a couple of assignments with a midterm and final. Those require some studying, but she allows everyone to send her it early and her feedback is amazing. I highly recommend!
I wasn't looking forward to taking another theo class but hers was so interesting. She has high expectations for a core class but I honestly learned a lot and enjoyed being in class. It's not an easy A but if you participate and do the reading it's not difficult to do well.
Dr. O'Connell is great. It's a lot of reading but she assigns interesting articles to go along with all the Bible reading. She holds great discussions - participate!! Seriously just answer a few questions. Your grade will suffer if you don't. She's fair but harsh with test grading and is readily available to help students. She's great!
Dr. O'Connell is a great professor, most likely, top 5 at the entire university. Despite being online, the course was great. Her lectures are short and we spend most of the synchronous class time discussing the readings for the day. The workload is very manageable as long as you keep up with the assigned tasks.
Her class is pretty difficult. She definitely makes you work to get an A. However, it is a solid choice for a theology class and she modernizes the lessons so that they are at least interesting. She is very lenient with due dates as long as you talk to her. Participation in class discussions is necessary. Need to thoroughly understand all readings.
I really liked Prof. O'Connell and how she addresses Christian theology. I grew up going to Christian schools and learned so much in this class about real problems regarding race and sex in a theological perspective. She's really understanding too if you ask for an extension.
She was fine. Definitely makes you work for your grade and kind of a lot of work for being a non major. Is harsh on grading and the way she grades for participation in class is not clear as one can speak a lot, yet you'll get a 8 or 9/10 for example as a participation grade.
Prof. O'Connell's online class was great - she is very knowledge about the subject, has clear grading criteria, and is fun to be with in class. The only drawback for her class is the grading scale, where a 94 is an A. It is difficult, but certainly feasible.
She is a harsh grader and does not let anything slide. I had her in spring 2021 and her theology is super off! Im a Christian and Im glad I have a solid church who kept me on a straight path. Please beware you do not fall for anything she says because none of it is true. I went to class but it doesnt help you on anything because its all wrong.
She's a great prof, really smart. As long as you put in effort and participate in class, it's really not that bad. Her grading criteria is very specific and my test was all free response.
Dr. O is a super sweet lady, as long as you pay attention and put effort in. Participation really matters and she really wants to make sure you understand the material. I really liked how her lectures are posted before class so you really don't have to read as much outside of class since she goes over them the next day.
Dr. O seems like a great person, but theology wasn't for me. You don't have to take the final if you have over an 80% which I thought would be easy. WATCH THE LECTURES (or at least let the whole video play in the background bc she can see if you don't watch all). TAKE NOTES or you'll be like me who had to email a bunch of students around the mid.
Dr. O was a very good professor. She was kind and didn't impose beliefs on her students, instead taught them theology like a professor should. She was very open minded and respected everyone's opinions. Participation matters but honestly I didn't go to a lot of classes and still passed the course w/o having to take the final.
Didn't expect myself to like the course but I actually LOVED it, Dr. O makes you put in work, but makes the topic SO interesting regardless of background/beliefs (having some previous knowledge does help, you should probably read assigned stuff a little closer if you weren't raised w religion), grades harsh but is overall great professor and person
I had Dr. O for my first semester & knew I wanted her for my second tier! She does an awesome job at delivering & accepting all opinions from a non-bias standpoint during discussion. Exams & assignments graded harshly but don't think that should hold you back from taking the class. If you prepare you'll be fine and learn more than you realize!
Discussion/lecture based class. Make sure you do the readings and take notes. Her graded assignments are very helpful and she gives amazing feedback.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Her lectures are heavy. For the exam she gives you a study guide and even though you do all of it you will never succeed her expectations. She gives you 45 minutes for exams in which you have to do 3 short essays. She is one of the toughest graders I've had. She laughs when her students do bad in exams.
a very kind woman who has strong views and a clear understanding of the subject. values participation lots; two or three exams, a group project, two papers. not too much reading for each class, but important to do them. a pretty tough grader and sometimes unclear on what exactly is expected. take good notes and study hard for exams!
The most important thing is engagement. Do her online lectures and engage with the class conversation. Her information is kinda confusing so it's definitely a class you need to focus on for the most part. She's really nice and passionate about her class content.
Participation Matters! I promise if you just do the readings and are engaging in class, it'll make your life a lot easier. She's passionate and chooses interesting modern day reads. Yes this class is hard, but it's suppose to be. Take notes, stay on TOP of readings, and show you're engaged. She's funny and I think her lectures are super interesting
Mother unit
Dr. O'Connell is a great professor for theology, the classroom is flipped so you do have to watch a short lecture outside of class. If you don't show up you will have no understanding and will not be prepared for the midterm and there is only one so you want to do well! Overall she is very kind and funny.
Oconnell is a great professor for a core class. Lectures are done before class as homework, 1 midterm, and an optional final depending on your grade. Go to class or you wont understand anything. She knows what shes talking about. She can be intimidating at first but a good prof overall
Dr. O'Connell is great and she knows what shes talking about, very understanding, and shes real with the class. Structure and grading format works very well. Tests are hard but the study guides help a lot. Show up and participate. Content is actually interesting for a THEO class.
Professor O'Connell delivers really effective lectures that are easy to understand. Preparing for class is super important, as lecture video views count towards your grade and the readings she assigns are relevant to the midterm. If you have a good enough grade, the final is optional, which is super nice.
I have such mixed feelings about prof O'Connell. Biggest issue was that she was the SLOWEST grader ever. She also is extremely lecture heavy and had us watching lectures outside of class and she would spend the majority of class lecturing as well. You can definitely get away without doing most of the readings. Can't really skip class tho.
I loved O'Connell as a professor, she taught me a lot but her class IS SO HARD. its way too much work for a core class, papers, huge exam, tons of homework, and we had to watch lectures outside of class. And god forbid if you miss a class your grade will tank. if you didn't grow up religious you're going to be on the struggle bus.
She is super nice and willing to work with you! the work load is not bad but make sure you are looking at the assignments yourself as it can be easy to miss one because she doesn't advertise work like other profs.
Professor O'Connell is by far the worst professor I've had In the 3 years that I've been at Loyola. She is extremely condescending and misleading, her criteria is rather vague for assignments. She is uncooperative and disrespectful, I can't believe she's still employed at this university, she should've never been hired. PLEASE DONT TAKE!!!!!!
Jesus Christ where do I begin. O'connel gives homework due before every class, which is either 1-2 lectures, and a lengthy reading and annotation assignment, with another lecture. Additionally, she assigns other paper homework assignments. She claims attendance is not required but says class participation is... JUST SAY ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY -_-
First day of class she says she "has to assign 3 hrs of homework for a 3 credit class". assigns 2-4 lectures a week along with reading homework, and additional assignments. doesn't tell you about any assignments, and does not allow any makeup work. insufferably annoying, takes her pointless job WAY too seriously for a core class. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!
she going to hell for all this homework she giving
She does not make any assignment due dates clear. I am on top of all my work and missed an annotated bibliography assignment by a week simply because I had no idea that it was due because she didn't talk about it in class whatsoever. Homework feels like busy work and lectures are boring.
Dr. O'Connell is such an amazing professor. Yes, her class requires a lot of work and critical thinking. However, she is very fair in her grading and work load. She is easily approachable, facilitates in-class discussion and debate well, and provides amazing feedback (sometimes leaving me paragraphs for feedback/guidance).
Super kind professor that is very passionate about theology. Manageable homework load and grades very fairly as long as you turn in all of your assignments.
exams are writing intensive, but her study guides are great! participation matters heavily too. absorb the weekly readings to keep class discussion going & it'll pay off for exams too. such a sweet person and very engaging despite a longer class
Dr. O'Connell is extremely passionate about Christian Theology and participation is a large percentage of your grade. She assigns lots of homework and online lectures, but if you do them you will do well. I wish she better explained exactly what she is expecting for written assignments, since the instructions were confusing sometimes.
Dr. O is an amazing professor. As long as you do your work and stay on top of things, the class is a breeze. She is really good at lecturing and the discussions are fun to take part in. She is also super understanding and kind, and her grading criteria is pretty clear.
The content of the course was overall boring but she did a good job of making it more interesting. Assignments can be boring and tedious. She is a fair grader and wants you to succeed. Im glad I took her class.
This class was a little boring, but her jokes and humor made the class more enjoyable! There are a lot of readings and videos, but they're all straightforward to understand, and she is great with going over the videos in class. Take her class, she's very nice!
She's a kind professor but assigns way too much homework for a core class. There's 2 lectures and a reading (usually 10-15 pages) per week. There's also papers and research projects. I found her grading to be unclear too. Participation matters so attendance is pretty necessary. Overall far too much work for a simple Theo100 class.
I enjoyed class with Dr. O. The homework really isn't as bad as it seems. You will have to watch lectures outside of class and do a weekly reading discussion board. She always reviews the lectures you watch on your own and is pretty helpful with anything. Definitely a particular grader. She seems intimidating at first, but she's such a sweet lady.
Good teacher and very energetic, but lots of unnecessary busy work for core class. Frequently asks for students to answer her which results in awkward silence. 25min videos with embedded quizzes due 10am before class and perusal reading w/ annotation due the next class every week. Optional final depending on grade an unnecessary research project.
Dr. O'Connell is a bright light in the face of adversity. She is so strong and I admire her throughout this semester. One test and optional final, a presentation and TONS of homework. I cant wait to take her next semester.
When asking for help constant attitude was always given back rather than solid feedback. Would never take a class with her again.
First day of class she says she "has to assign 3 hrs of homework for a 3 credit class". assigns 2-4 lectures a week along with reading homework, and additional assignments. doesn't tell you about any assignments, and does not allow any makeup work. insufferably annoying, takes her job WAY too seriously for a core class. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!
Prof. O'Connell was cool. She is a very positive, upbeat person full of energy. She is very smart in her field and genuinely wants to see her students succeed. ALOT of work tho. Weekly at home readings, quizzes, and assignments. A research report, midterm, and OPTIONAL final. Hard, but not impossible to get an A. Just put in work and youre good. :)
The class content can be dull, but the professor is passionate. Lots of assignments and lectures, but using tools like Unstuck ai can help with study prep. Participate in class and you'll do well, despite the heavy workload.
she's a sweetie but I never get bs and I have one in her class even tho im like try harding it right now she is a tough grader but optional final which is nice and I really like her teaching style.
She was gone most of the year due to her illness which by no means is her fault. As a substitution we were given a teacher assistant who had little to no clue what he was doing(again not his fault because he's a TA). For not being present in class there was so much homework, she grades assignments heavily, and was not understanding at all.
she is a zio !!!! all that needs to be said, she only cares about her own beliefs and will say your wrong. She preaches about ancient isnotreal and then talks about how Christanity is all about treating human with dignity like..... anyways dont take her
If you arent Christan you will do bad, forgot to add that in my last review. She admitted how her and her colleagues argued with the head of Theo, because the head had a different view on God. Speak a lot of volume on the lack of respect she has.
i didn't get to have dr o for very long this semester, but she was absolutely amazing. i love the way she runs the class, and she's always full of fun energy! if you can take her i recommend it, especially if you aren't interested in theology. she has an amazing energy that makes anyone interested in the topic she's talking about, which is amazing!
She's very engaging but her class is hard.
Dr. O'Connell is a very sweet and fun professor! She seems to truly to love theology and love teaching others about it. This class is a bit difficult if you have not read the Bible or learned about any of the stories in the past, but Dr. O'Connell makes it fun and engaging, so it's still an interesting class.
The class wasn't too bad as long as you do the assigned readings and lectures outside of class. Make sure you pay attention in class because the content discussed is important for the midterm. Final is optional which is nice.
Having knowledge of the New Testament didn't matter since the class focuses on its literary elements and themes, along with marginalized perspectives. Easy research project, Gospels exam, optional final, weekly quizzes, reading assignments, and participation make up the grade. Prof is quirky, but that makes the class more engaging. Would recommend!
