You won't understand everything, but she says that's ok and she wants you to work with what you DO understand. She's sooo patient with you - you have to love her.

There is a ton of busy work. It's not a hard class, but prepare to read and write about pointless material. Attendance and participation are mandatory and can make or break your grade in this class.

I am a senior but i had to come back to O'Leary's page and recommend her to everyone. This is literally my favorite class I have ever taken. It makes you think in such an abstract way, and she doesn't tell you what to write, you choose the topics. It is such a relaxed, laid back class. O'Leary is amazing and you would be crazy not to take her.

Prof. O'Leary is very patient and her class is pretty enjoyable. There is a lot of reading, but most of the class time is spent discussing the reading, so if you participate the class goes by really quickly. Bonus: She's really young, so she's easy to connect with and she's open to topics other teachers would judge you for discussing.

My sister took Prof. OLeary about 6 years ago and heard she moved away - but good news for QU students is that she's back. My sister and I don't agree on very much but we both think prof. OLeary is a great teacher! She's patient and understanding. You can tell she loves her job. Take her and take the time to talk to her after class.

Great professor. Young and very interested in her job. You have to work hard and she takes the class seriously but you'll get the grade you deserve. There's easy work after almost every class and 3 major essays. She's big on group discussion. Definitely take her- she's very fair and very helpful.

I'm in Prof. O'Learys EN 102 class now and I wanted to let other students know how great she is, so they can register for her classes next semester! She is truly a nice person who loves her job and seems to have a lot of fun during class. This makes class time really enjoyable - your free to speak your mind and write in really unexpected ways!

Professor O'Leary is one of the best profs I've had here at QU. She has taught me so much about writing but made it fun and really creative. She meets with students one on one and gives meaningful feedback about how your writing can improve. I've never had a teacher make me feel like my work really mattered before! I just finished O'Learys english 102 class and I actually really liked it. At first I was worried that the material was gonna be way over my head but she really explained things in a clear way and made me feel confident. She goes the extra mile to make sure everyone's questions are answered every class and that's something I wish more profs did.

O'Leary was probably my favorite prof my whole freshmen year. Even though the material is pretty dry I think all the 101 sections do the same thing, so I'd rather have a teacher who puts in effort to make the reading interesting and listen to every student's ideas. Prof. was really clear about expectations and always available for help.

O'Leary was an excellent choice for 101. Everyone has to use that Ways of Reading book and write essays so the assignments are going to be long and the reading is a lot. But if you are going to do it, you may as well take the class with someone who wants to be there. She was enthusiastic even at 8am on cold January mornings.

Great prof. Wasn't sure what to expect my freshmen year but prof o'leary made the class really comfortable and friendly. She stayed after class to look over my papers every time I asked and explained things to me in a way I really got. I wish I could take her next semester too but her classes fill up quick.

One of my favorite teachers that I have had since being at Quinnipiac. She is so helpful and nice. Participation does not really matter, as long as you are actively listening during class and taking in all the information. She does give grammar quizzes since that is what she studied in school. Overall an amazing teacher and she is always there.

Great teacher for EN 101. Heard horror stories from my suite mates about their profs. O'Leary was down to earth and gave good comments on my essays. I felt comfortable with my portfolio and revised papers. She is ridiculously patient and a good listener. I feel like I learned more from her than all of high school English.

I felt comfortable talking in class which I usually don't because I never felt judged in this class. True there's a lot of work but it wasn't more then I could handle. Good class overall.

EN 101 was not my favorite class but Prof O'Leary made it pretty interesting. I never thought I was a good writer but after taking the class I feel way more confident. I met with prof like once a week in LC when I was afraid I wasn't understanding the reading. She was always willing to help - even one of my roommates who wasn't even in her class

I have O'Leary for English 102. Parts of the class are boring because there is a lot of reading but some of the creative writing is actually really fun and something I never thought I'd be good at. She is very helpful with these assignments and has met with me multiple times outside of class. I feel very relaxed in this course unlike my 101.

I can't say enough about how helpful prof oleary was this semester. This was a very different experience then I had in my EN 101 class. Professor Oleary was always willing to reexplain an assignment and and look over my drafts. I met with her during office hours a bunch of times but it was really worth it when I look at my grade now.

Hands down my favorite class this semester and I'm not even an English major. I loved Prof O'Learys enthusiasm and how she made boring readings into really intense class discussions. We all got to share our personal opinions and stories and she somehow made sense of the readings this way. I would go to class confused and leave totally getting it.

You must take Prof O'leary if you can while at QU. Great teacher with a great personality. You can tell she really loves her job and tries hard to connect with students on a human level. Always asked us about our days and kept the mood light and friendly in class. After a tough day of science and math classes this was always a relief!

EN 101 is kind of boring in general but prof O'Leary makes it fun because she doesn't take herself to seriously. I liked how she could joke with students and make us feel comfortable with difficult material. My writing really got better this semester. I see more mature writing than high school and had an easier time with work for other classes.

I took professor O'Leary for my english 101 class last semester and I already miss her! She was a great teacher and I definitely learned a lot. If you participate you really can't go wrong. She values everyones opinions and often tells funny stories that you can relate to that make the material clearer.

My roommate and I both had professor O'Leary for English 101 and it was a great class. We always had good discussions and she made pretty dry material seem not so bad. She has little conferences to about your grade and progress and there are lots of chances to do a revision. I think she is a really good teacher and a nice woman. Would take again.

Great teacher. As long as you participate in class which she makes pretty easy, you should have no problem. She's friendly and easy to talk to after class. My writing improved a lot because she took time to give me personal advice about my specific mistakes and weakness. Always had a positive attitude.

I am almost finished with EN 102 and I've had such a different experience then 101. O'Leary is the opposite of my 101 prof. She is kind understanding and available to meet whenever you need. I heard such horror stories about some of my roommates professors for English 101 and it made me so glad I had O'Leary. She was truly a great teacher. The class goes by so quickly because she keeps the classes different. Sometimes you discuss, sometimes there's some group work, sometimes she lets us start essays and get feedback before we leave.

I have to say I actually really enjoy English this semester which is surprising because I hated it in high school and in 101. Turns out the right teacher does make a difference. Prof Oleary is very understanding and friendly. You get a feeling like she really wants to be there. She's definitely helped me get better with writing this semester.

I had prof O'Leary for English 102 last year and she was pretty great. Probably the only teacher I've had here that actually explains things patiently and then waits to see if you have more questions. I never felt confused about what I was writing. There is a lot of discussion in class so you defiantly have to participate but its not bad.

My first semester of college English is almost over and I think it went really well thanks to professor O'Leary. I just finished my first semester at Quinnipiac and had prof. O'Leary for EN 101. She was a great professor and really helped me get better in writing. A lot of classes are spent discussing the readings so everyone understands (cuz they are long) and then she breaks down the essay prompt very clearly. Great teacher - take!

All around great professor. Your final grade is based off of a final portfolio of three essays and eight journal assignments. She has clear grading criteria and really wants you to do well. Just show up and engage in the class, do your work and you'll be fine.

My experiance with professor O'leary was the best, she was very understandable and caring for me. What I learned from her class taught me how to write better and have better organization skills when it comes to this class. She would also help me from any mistakes I made from any final draft and learn from it to make improvments on the next essay.

Great instructor. In 101 I got pretty much no feedback on my essays and spent class on my laptop. Thats only fun for like a week til you realize your paying for the class. With prof Oleary I got tons of help with essays and chances to revise. Class is really discussion based so dont slack off. The discussions are really helpful though.

I had OLeary for 102 last semester and loved her. She was funny and is realistic about how much work you can do from class to class. I thought she was really approachable like you could ask her anything about an assignment and she would explain really clear. One of the best professors at QU.

Her class is very progress based so if you come in with writing flaws don't worry. She gives feedback personally on every paper I've written so far. She meets with you personally for midterms and genuinely cares about her students. We also have group discussions in class about the real world and she knows English isn't interesting to everyone.

I have OLeary for ENG 101 this semester and she is literally the best teacher Ive had including in high school. I didnt really know what to expect in college English but she is so helpful and clear. You do have to read a lot and participate in the discussions but its really not that bad. If you talk in clas youre set.

The EN 101 book is awful but all the classes use it so I was glad to be in a class where the teacher explained things. Lots of reading for homework but good class overall.

I loved this teacher! Prof O is definitely the best English teacher. I had her for 101 and got on the waitlist for 102 but didnt get in. I had Prof O this semester for 102. We got switched online after spring break because of Coronavirus. The first part of the class was great and there were such interesting discussions. I never dreaded English like I did last semester. The second part was online and she did a really good job keeping in touch with me in emails and Zoom. Really nice!

She's also very caring and inspired me to enter an essay competition for the Yale British Museum of Art! I did pretty well for a person who's never taken an art class. Please listen to her feedback. She is knowledgeable and friendly and always willing to help. I feel like she taught me how to write like an adult which really helps me at my job now. Great teacher!

Prof O is a great teacher. She taught me APA and MLA quicker than my other two English classes together. She has great memory tricks for grammar and has Teams office hour in the evening for us who work. Really great online class.
