Lauren is friendly and willing to help. As boring as math can be, she does her best have her students understand completely. She's personable and willing to spend time outside of class to help anyone.
Lauren was very friendly, open, and helpful. Even though i didn't do very well in her class last quarter (1.7) :( i still enjoyed the way she taught. Thanks, prof!
She made class enjoyable and did a very good job of teaching the class. It was hard, because there is so much to learn in Math 99, but she did a really good job! I enjoyed her class but be prepared for a lot of homework!

the hardest math class I ever took, math 124 is nothing compared to this one. all thanks to "great" teaching methods of horribly , excuse my french, pathetic attempt to be good teacher of Sandven. The class was hard, even though she tried to help people, it didn't do much good, de to confusion she caused.
Great Teacher
She is a great instructor. She explained how to solve many kinds functions. Moreover, she tries to keep energetic class whenever students are silent. If you have some questions, you should visit her office. She will teach you until you understand. However, her quizes and exams were tricky. You need to understand math completely.

Doesn't know her stuff.
Interesting lectures. She's a cool person, laughs easily. Laid back - i.e. brought donuts and cookies in for our final. Weekly "quizzes" are easy points as long as you are doing the (collected) homework. I think 125 is the hardest of the 3 calc courses, but I enjoyed the class.
She tends to go off on tangents which can be ultimately distracting from the actual math she's trying to teach. She gives a lot of homework and then barely goes over it. She also doesn't go over test and quizes. I wouldn't recommend her for anyone looking for a solid math class.
Treats some of us like were dumb. Thats not very nice and also not professional. Nice, but can come across as intimidating
I always had a fear of math, this is why I had to start at 70. Lauren got me interested and I started to enjoy math. Clear lectures and active class.
Hate her teaching. Not good. Draws potato chips all day with dots inside..
She's disorganized, and would often get confused during lectures, and would get stumped on even the most basic questions and would have to 'come back to it tommarow.' Her grading was way to subjective for a math class, the whole time I was in the class I felt like I was in a grade school art class.
Sandven is not cut out for teaching. Her inability to teach is apparent after your first day. She is unorganized and does not seem to be very passionate about math. She definately made me feel like I wasn't the only one in the room who wasn't great at math.
Lauren is clear, patient, and helpful. Pay attention and do the work, and you will be fine. If you need extra help, she will listen and help.
Adds more to her lessons than the others that teach same class- just makes for confusion.
Lauren had to take over my class for Sarah, who had to leave for medical purposes. Lauren was really focused on her teaching, which was good; but sometimes it was so boring that i couldn't help but to check the clock frequently. Her tests were pretty hard, because they were really long and we only had 45-50 minutes to do them.
Pretty average trigonometry teacher here. Nice lady but just not very motivated in lecture. Also, she sometimes gets a little confused so don't ask any tricky questions.
Just about average...She always skips a lot of steps when doing an example problem(integrating, etc...), expecting that you still remember all the stuff from 124/125/126......Assigns lots of homework that she won't grade at all...No quizzes at all, makes the exams more important(if you get a low score on 1 exam, u are pretty much done)
She was a living version of the text book, nothing more nothing less.
She is very clear which I appreciate very much. However, her quizes and exams are really hard because she doesn't let you use notes. She just expects you to remember everything which is a lot of new info and pretty much impossible to do. I think that is unreasonable.

Lauren is a great teacher, who made learning math easy to understand. She expected a lot out of her students since it was an extensive course. I learned a ton from this course, even though I was never interested in math before and held little belief in my capability. The class covers a lot, so you better have time to study!
Math is usually my fav subject but I hated this class so much. She treated us like we were in elementary school. I couldn't stand it, it was absolutely boring and I couldn't wait for class to be over every single day. Literally short of torture.
She is crystal clear in teaching. She will try and help explain things procedurally, which is very helpful. No notes are allowed for tests except for the final. The homework is required and is long but forced you to learn (more teachers should do this). The one problem I had was if you mess up one test, you have a slim chance to get a 3.0.
Tries to cover to much material in to short of time. She has a goal and will meet it even if we are lost!
Lauren is a great teacher! She is crystal clear with concepts and is always willing to answer questions. Her tests are long and somewhat difficult, but if you studay and do the work you will do fine. She made learning math fun!
Lauren is a fantastic professor. She is very organized. She will explain a math problem step-by-step. So you will not get lost. She is very helpful. I have learned a lot from her. Sure, there is homework every other day, but it does help with the quiz that she gives every week. Overall, she is a great teacher! =)
Lauren is a great instructor. She explained everything thoroughly and made herself available everyday to students who did not understand the information in office hours. As long as you do the homework and study (duh) you will be fine!
Has too high of standards for her student in comparison to her ability to teach. Lessons are unclear and boring. Is not helpful when you ask for help.
Worst math teacher i have ever had
She a Great teacher if you attend class daily, do all the homework(She drops one homework grade)and if you need extra help, visit her during office hours and she can answer any questions. The material she teaches can be difficult to understand But she does a fantastic job of explaining it
She's great. Really good at explaining calculus. Her lectures make the book so much more understandable.
I feel like she does a great jo.. Math doesn't come easy to me, and she made calculus seem easy. I like how she thoroughly explains things in lecture, and she's pretty accessible via email & office hours if you still have questions. A lot of hw, but it forces you to learn the material. I like how she drops lowest hw and quiz scores.
She is a veeeery good teacher! Everybody should take her class!
if u know how to do the h.w. and understand everything she teaches,,,u would definitely get full point in quizzes and exams(sometimes H.W. problems are even harder),,, easy class(almost all my frds 4.0),,, highly recommended
easiest math prof. in shoreline, take her and u'll get 4.0. never take FRED ,i heard no one got 4.0 from him
She's a nice teacher with great passionin in teaching calculus. Although her class may not be fun, she makes calculus looks easy. She drops 4 of your lowest hw grades and 2 lowest quizzes, and her quiz and exam is not hard so its easy to get a 4.0 in her class.
VERY GOOD TEACHER. DON'T COME LATE IN HER CLASS. THAT ANNOYS HER.
Despite everyone else's comments, I really enjoy Lauren as a professor. She grades very fairly, has clear expectations and I learned a lot. The only downside is I wish she'd explain concepts a little more before moving on, but I know there is a lot of material to cover.
Lauren is a great teacher. She is willing to help you when you're stuck on a problem, but her tests aren't too easy. If the students miss a particular question on the test, she will go over it to make sure they understand. She is usually very clear on explaining the concepts, but occasionally things can get a bit confusing. She is also friendly.
Super friendly and fun to listen to. Excellent explanations and test preparation. Very fair grading. Definitely take her!
She's a great teacher, it's easy to get scores from her. She rarely makes tricky questions. But sometimes her class is a little bit boring though
Great professor! Helped me when I needed it and was very clear!
She is awesome! She is very helpful and makes everything clear. She doesn't assign a ton of homework, but enough to figure out what were learning. She makes it clear we can always go to her office hours or ask her questions after class.
Lauren is a great instructor. She explains concepts in depth and is always willing to answer any questions, in and out of class. She drops 2 quizzes, 2 online assignments, and 1 paper assignment which was awesome. The only thing I had trouble with was the exams, but that was primarily my own fault. I definitely recommend her, you'll learn a lot!
This was my second quarter taking Lauren and i would take her classes again. She is the most helpful teacher i've had so far and though it's not an easy class she tries to make everything as simple as she can for everyone to understand. She thoroughly enjoys her job, and works hard to help us.
Show up to class, do the homework and you'll do fine. Her lectures are dull at times though, but she explains well and she wants you to ask her for help if you need it. SHE WANTS YOU TO DO WELL.
I'd say go ahead and sign up for her if she's at a convenient time for you. Organized, helpful, not very exciting lectures but hey, it's math. Used MyMathLab for my class, didn't even need to buy the physical textbook. You can also pretty much show up once a week for quizzes and to turn in hmwrk if you don't need to hear the lessons.
Lauren is pretty disorganized. her grading is really harsh too. I got a 4.0 in 3 other math classes but barely passed her class. shes nice and helpful but does weird stuff like starts new chapters a few days before the weekly quiz. shes not real focused and loses her train of thought often and seems really unsure of herself. homework is all online.
I took Lauren for math 99 and math 141. She is by far my favorite math teacher at shoreline. She is always in a great mood and energetic when giving her lectures. She isn't the easiest teacher but i have had a lot worse.
I think she wants students to learn but I don't think she has a great "connection" with students. When I asked her for help, the way she responded to me was a bit rude.
Lauren offers time during office hours and explains the concepts in lectures. But goes through a lot of material fast in a short amount of time. She does seem a little cold and rude towards her students at times if you just ask a question. Quizzes are short but exams are longer. This class is pretty challenging so be ready.
She is definitely a nice professor. She explains everything clear and helps you to understand the lecture. She drops 2 lowest quizzes and hw our of your final grade. She graded our quizzes very quick(takes about 1~2 days) and accurate. ESAY 4.0 Take her class
So helpful, so enthusiastic about what she's teaching, and she made herself very available to us with her office hours and answering questions in class. She also had nice realistic expectations of us and slightly altered the lesson plan to fit our rate of learning.
She is a great professor.
Lauren is a great proffesor, very nice and willing to help. Take her classes.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. She is crystal clear on her presentation, and I love how organized she is with her assignments and resources. We used Canvas and she was always avail during her office hours or by email. She is always in a good attitude and doesn't try to spin math as anything else.
watch out when she gives you hand outs to practice for the test.you are better off learning from the home work problems.i feel like the videos on the online homework are better teachers then her, this B**** will make you down on the smallest things so be clear on the test. if i knew she was going to be like this i would have gotten a better teacher
worst math teacher i have ever had. no partial credit on exams or test if you make a small mistake. on test days you have homework due and a online quiz right after. she tricks you on exams and tests. she shouldn't be a teacher, drop out while you can.
Not afraid to tell students who are goofing off to shut up. Be serious when you come to class and you'll do fine.
she give students tons of works to do. Regardless how much the assignments are, she seldom gives us the solutions and her explanation was not clear enough. Moreover, she takes some many sick days off. And she never grades attendance, this is so unfair to those student who has the high attendance.
She is a decent teacher, I had a hard time only because she didn't explain the process very well. I wouldn't take her again if she wasn't the best of the math 070 teachers.
Hands down, the best math teacher I've ever had. Lauren explains things so clearly and answers every question patiently. She is one of the most organized professors I've ever met. If you follow her advice, guaranteed A. Love her :)
Lauren is a very good and strict professor, she's clear cut about what she expects and how she expects it. She is a bit demanding but she will prepare you extremely well for MATH99.
SHe was an okay Math teacher, She explains things pretty clear but I think she could be more clear but overall she was a good teacher!
She's really nice and an overall helpful professor. She's not out there to try to kill you. But unlike other math teachers at SCC, she gives quizzes on Friday instead of Tuesday. Which means you have Monday-Thursday to learn 2 sections before the quiz. Do-able, but you can find yourself feeling overwhelmed (many) times. Not so great...
She gives very, very generous grades. You have to turn in homeworks every week, but she grades based on completion, and, she drops 2 out of 10. Quizzes and exams are easy. As long as you understand her examples during lectures, know what you are doing, then you will succeed. Overall, good teacher, and I strongly recommend taking her.
She is a really good teacher. MATH152 is a hard class, but she teaches you so that you can have a solid insight when interpreting the problem. You have to work hard, but you kind of always have to work hard. Listen to what she says, and apply to the homework.
she explains things really detail, hands down the best teacher i've ever met.
She explains things clearly enough that I rarely had to reference the textbook. Good attendance pays off and helps you get through the homework more quickly with less studying. Positive attitude, funny, and very knowledgeable on the subject . Generous grading (two lowest quiz scores are dropped).
Her lectures are clear. She appears prepared for class. She drops two lowest quizzes. She is available after hours. Her class was fun. I would definitely take her agian.
Nice teacher, but her tests are very hard to study for. I felt as though I had spent my time studying for the wrong things on every quiz and exam. With so much information covered so quickly it it very hard to narrow down what you will be graded on. Instead of knowing something very well, I felt as if I had to cram everything in. Frustrating class.
I loved taking Lauren's class! I'm so sad that she isn't teaching 99 next quarter. You get what you put into this class. If you're showing up, doing your homework, and studying you WILL pass. She lets you turn in homework late and you can do video homework late for a little bit less than full credit. I would definitely recommend her class.
I was a terrible math student in highschool and she helped me really like solving math related problem and inspired me to pursue a stem degree
If you do the homework, read, and show up to class you will pass with an A
She is kind, patient, understanding, and not at all condescending. She is hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. She even tries to help students overcome math and test anxiety. Highly recommend her!
Sandven was a really good teacher. I love her class and would 100% take it again. She is open to any questions you would have and can submit your homework late, but I suggest you do them before she starts the next chapter.
I enjoyed Lauren's class quite a bit. I always considered myself a poor math student, but you work in groups daily (not easy for introverts such as myself, but you end up helping each other out/caring about helping your classmates improve) and her online lectures are excellent. She's very kind & clearly cares about giving us a quality education.
Her class is OK. Watch all the provided videos, I find them more useful and complete than her lecture. Make sure to keep track of time during the quizzes (they're roughly 15 minutes).
Of all the math professors I've had, I still like her the best. Her voice is so pleasant--and she explains things in a straightforward way that makes math seem easy. I like that her lectures are online so that the in-class time is for asking her clarifying questions and doing group work. This format really helped me master the concepts.
She can be either fast or slow when explaining materials, depends on her mood. For me, her teaching helps me understand the materials. She'll drop 1 or 2 of the quizzes and will allow you to bring an 8"x11" note for the finals. Lots of homework but she'll only see your completion. She gives a lot of extra help for you to study for tests.
Sandven seems to get confused sometimes during class like she sometimes doesn't know what's she talking about. However, her lectures are slow-pace and really easy to follow. Her homework is not too heavy and as long as you spend enough time studying, you'll pass.
There's no extra credit so study well. She's really helpful outside of class and is lenient when it comes to homework submission because she wants you to understand instead of just submitting homework. Her lectures can be quite boring but if you pay attention it's really clear. Her exams weight a lot and just one bad exam can ruin your grade.
Lauren is just fine. Her lectures can be clear but also confusing sometimes. She has lots of homework. Her exams aren't too hard because for me her quizzes are harder. Her quizzes usually has only 2 questions so be careful. Personally, if you want to take her feel free, but if there's another professor who's better I'll take the other one.
I would recommend never taken this professor. She will Mark you for minuscule mistakes. And an absolute joke I have never seen a worse professor.....I specifically just found this site so I could label with a horrible professor she is. she will Mark you off five points for missing an equal sign. She is the worst greater and an absolute disgrace.
This teacher wants you to succeed. There is clear communication about math anxiety if you take Math099 w support), ways to work through it, and there are so many given resources for help. Take this class, you can do it!
i am beyond grateful to have gotten her as a teacher. Lauren is thorough, caring, quick to respond, gives amazing little video lectures that makes the foggiest textbook read become clear instantly! i wish i could have her as my teacher for everything for the rest of my degree! i will be sad after this quarter without her. look no further!
Lauren was a great instructor, I learned a bunch of material in her class that I didn't understand beforehand. She spends a lot of time giving feedback and facilitating student success. Her curriculum is very comprehensive - you will do well on the quizzes and exams if you understand the homework! She teaches her students to adopt a growth mindset.
She has 2 homework, 1 quiz, and 1 written hw every week. Need to clear your schedule on Thursday and Friday to do them. She always provides feedback relatively fast and allows us to do corrections on written homework (she mentioned every number that is wrong and the reason). It's pretty easy to get 4.0 I'd say. Always answer your question as well.
Lauren is an amazing professor. I wish she also taught Math&142 because her format helped me learn very well and she allowed a ton of flexibility. I can’t express anymore gratitude that I got to be in her class.
The best math teacher you can ask for. She cares about students, posts lots of advices, reminders, and other helpful stuff. You just need to read a textbook, watch her lectures, and take notes. Learned a lot in this class. Definitely recommend!
So far she was the best Math teacher that I had. Good explanations and always available for help with your doubts.
Love this professor, you could fix your written homework after she point out which of your numbers are wrong. It is possible for 4.0
Lecture is not that useful, she just gives us a worksheet to complete and that's it. For an in-person class, I expect a lecture, but she basically tells us to watch the video. Avoid this class and just take an online class.
She was super well-organized and understanding. The class wasn't that hard, but we did have weekly quizzes. You can use notes on all of the tests. She has you do group work in class. Make sure to watch the lecture videos! She always was ready to answer any questions I had. Overall, great professor! Would take again
My favorite math professor in the entire school. Professor Sandven puts more emphasis on information retaining than making students fear for their grades, she will always help you and the assignments are exactly what you will see in the lectures, with little variation. I wish she taught the upper Calculus courses.
Wasn't sure about her at first, turned out to be one of the best math teachers I've had. There's more homework than I'd like, but she gives you so many chances to make up for lost points. For the online HW, there's usually videos linked with an example problem, that makes homework a lot easier.
Math is really anxiety inducing for me and Professor Sandven was really understanding and allowed space for solutions. She gives opportunity to makeup for points, put your effort in and she will do her best to help you understand what you are missing/forgetting. It is really fast paced (for me) so make sure to stay on top of it!
Professor Sandven is organized and understanding. Lots of weekly assignments, but she provides helpful feedback. Useful study tools like Unstuck ai made the workload manageable. Overall, great professor - would recommend.
Great professor, she is always available to help and get you unstuck. The methodology is very enjoyable and feels like learning math is fun when playing with cards that the professor provides.
