a really great teacher with enthusiasm. also has true knowledge of what she's teaching. she's very personable and helpful. so long as you pay attention and attend the classes, the class will be a breeze but don't slack off. i took over 4 of her classes!

Ms. Velasco is an excellent teacher, she really knows her subject, and how to teach it to you. Her class was extremely interesting and challenging. I learned a great deal from her.

I cant believe how fun this class was. She is best. I've been speaking to UC's and private schools and they really like this course on my transcript. I would recommend everyone to take this course before Speech 1A or 1B.

Lauren is my favorite teacher on campus, hands down. She's friendly, encouraging, thought-provoking, I learned a lot. Her new speech 6 class (rhetoric of political speech) kicks ass, and I am ever-thankful to her for introducing me to the debate team.

Fun class. Learned a lot. During four of the class sessions, we watched full-length movies related to communications during, and then wrote about them for hw. There were not any real public speaking assignments- just one group presentation, which wasn't too bad. This is a good class to take if you want to fulfil your GE Speech requirement.

There are 4 projects that make up your grade. Do them well and you will do well. Very easy grader because she understands that not everyone is a public speaker and grades on your effort and information. No reading required, a few HW assignments but not very many. There is extra credit!! Like attending a debate or a informational speaker

man, can i say a 'diamond in the rough'. =) she has an addictive personality that completely draws you in. when she lectures, she uses a technique that really persuades the audience. whenever she spoke, my full attention was on her. really great class, there's a lot of work, but u better get an A with all the xtra credit she gives. i love u lauren.

Lauren is AWESOME! She's fair and totally supportive and encouraging. She takes a genuine interest in her students and really wants all of them to do well. The only way to not get a good grade is to not show up and not do the assignments. What a great member of the Foothill Faculty! :)

The greatest instructor and the funniest class I have ever had. Her gradings are enouraging and she really want her students to learn. Just do your work and always show up then you can get a very good grade. She also gives extra credits.

This class rocked. Super-easy, kept involved, last assignment seems a little monumental but if you stay on top of it you'll do great. I took her final when I was really sick and she let me get it over with and passed me with an A. Take her classes if you can, I'd reccomend them!

I hate speech,but this teacher makes it easy! If you go to class and TRY to do well,you will get a good grade.

She's very encouraging, enthusiastic, and supportive (especially if you're nervous about speaking). Grading is clear, fair and easy. Class is pretty fun. She's almost too laid back- sometimes I feel like I'm not learning much content. But overall, highly recommended. She's entertaining, helpful and accessible.

If anything, this class was almost too easy. That being said, the discussions were engaging, except there was this one bird who tried to use way too many vocab words. It's like, c'mon. You don't need to use the longest word possible for everything in every day speaking. Really annoying, that was. She needs to cut that out.

She is so helpful, clear, encouraging and kind. Sometimes students take advantage of her unfortunately. She gives tons of extra credit and grades really fairly. She wants you to succeed and understands how scary public speaking really is and so you cannot fail if you put in effort. I get so nervous but she really made it as easy as possible.

This class is a jam in junior college. I have the best speech class here. The professor is extraordinary with well prepared in-class exercise, and lectures that help the students learn a lot.

An extremely helpful class which taught us how to discuss. Although there wasn't a lot of lessons for this course as it was a hybrid class, I felt I learnt something in each lesson. The knowledge we learnt was embedded in our mind that we wouldn't be able to forget. Most importantly, a super easy A with a harmonious learning environment.

Mrs. Velasco is an organized, well-spoken teacher with a very likeable personality. In addition to being an excellent teacher, she's easy on the eyes, that's for sure!

She rocks!!! she is the sweetest professor I ever had, she has a wonderful and pretty smile. Her assignments are not too hard, as long as you do all the assignments you can get an A. She was always ready and prepare for class, and she will keep you in class until the last minute.

I've never written a review, but Professor Velasco was so great that I just had to! If you hate public speaking, she will definitely change your mind. She really cares about all of her students and really wants you to succeed. As long as you put in effort, you'll do well. There's no reason for you to not get an A! Lots of bonus points as well!

Mrs Velasco was a great teacher- explained everything, gave extra time to finish 1st assignment and extra help when needed. Course allowed in depth study if so desired. Online work/discussion/ timeline clear. Class lectures not a repetition of assignments. Accepting atmosphere for all students. Good course-you get out of it what you put into it.

This class was one of the best ones I took. Mrs. Velasco was always knowledgeable and enthusiastic and the lectures were great.If you are not comfortable with public speaking she will help you get over that fear.She assigns tasks that are simple and adequate and also gives many opportunities for extra credit.She really wants you to learn.Take her!

I had Lauren for COMM 12 and I learned a lot in her class! I don't know why some would say that she's hard or isn't clear in her lectures but she got to the point and is really helpful if you try your best. Though I do recommend her if you are taking her in class/hybrid rather than purely online classes. I do plan to take COMM 1A or 3 with her!

This was a hybrid class and I must say it was one of the best. I had to take it because my GE but if I had to take another it would be with her! We did not have to meet every week and the quizzes we had were online, it was all about participating. Highly recommend her!

One of the best professors I've had so far. This class was a hybrid course that met only once a week. The professor has a unique teaching style that keeps the class engaged. I don't like communications but she made the class quite fun and enjoyable. I'd highly recommend taking her if you haven't already.

For an online course, this class rocked! Class discussion posts/projects were engaging and well organized. Professor Velasco was generous in her feedback to some of my graded journals. The weekly class discussions were thought provoking, which challenged me to look beyond the limitations of my own culture and into other cultures around the world.

Took the hybrid class and this class definitely had an impact on me and I learned a lot. Velasco was a good teacher, but class lectures can become boring. Very easy class!

Velasco is great. She uses this Interpersonal Communication class format to venture outside traditional academia and essentially engage in some inspirational topics and even a little bit of life coaching. Very useful for anyone who wants to be able to communicate better. Highly recommend.

I really liked this course. She is so nice and helpful. The class is super easy! All you have to do is attend the in class session and participate in the online discussion once a week. If you want an easy A then take this course.

Professor Velasco was so much fun! Her COM3 class was super easy. All you had to do was show up and pass. There are a couple online things but those weren't even hard. She has the sweetest personality and is a real gem. Take her if you need to take COM3. You won't regret it!

I have taken all of Prof. Velasco's classes. Her classes have literally changed my life. Her feedback has made me grow into a confident public speaker. Her classes are very engaging and your participation really matters. If you put the work into it, you will come out a better speaker. Her tips are really practical and generate great progress.

I'm sad this class is over. Professor Velasco makes this class so interesting and interactive. A lot of work is done in small groups so you get to know your classmates well. She is so helpful and motivating and really wants you to succeed. Many students in the class had taken other classes with her. I guess she is well liked by many :-)

This class isn't easy, but she made me want to learn which made it seem easy. She is warm, knowledgeable, and likes to laugh. We went from being a nervous class afraid of give speeches to confident public speakers. Attendance is a must. You are graded on showing up to speak, not necessarily the content. She gives good feedback on your delivery.

Class was overall easy. Most classwork was online and it was chapter quizzes from the book. The required book was small and pretty interesting to read. Lectures were always interesting and few class projects. The final project was relatively easy.

I can't express enough how amazing Lauren Velasco is. Foothill is LUCKY to have this Ivy-League status professor, and she is also such an inspirational person. She gives amazing feedback, and if you are taking speech for the first time, Velasco is hands down the way to go.

Amazing professor! I went into this class with a lot of anxiety about public speaking, but the friendly environment and encouragement from Velasco made this class a piece of cake. Lectures can be long and boring sometimes, but most of class will be spent giving and listening to others' speeches. And please do NOT buy the textbook for this class!!!!

I took her hybrid interpersonal comm class. Minimal online work. There is a book but its easy read. If you dont show up to the occasional classes, you will miss the most points to your grade, like hundreds of points, and you only meet 6 times. Really really nice and interesting lectures. Definitely an easy A if you remember to go.

Honestly one of the best teachers Ive ever had in my life. Never used the book. She is very kind and patient and makes you want to come to the next class. I almost wish we had more meetings, last quarter we only met 6 times. Last project was very open which I appreciated. Please take her if you want to communicate better!

She is extremely nice, very understanding, and gives great advice. Show up and just do the assignments and follow ALL the directions.

Her class was super easy. As long as you read the chapter assigned, read the modules, and do the weekly journal entry, you'll pass. The journal entry is three paragraphs long. Her modules are pretty interesting as well. This is the second class that I've taken with her and I definitely recommend her!

Professor Velasco is definitely the best Communications teacher at Foothill . She provided two extra credits, easy journals, Final Exam is unlimited retry's which is awesome and she really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. Easiest Class Ever! Highly Recommend Her :)

This class isn't easy as Professor Velasco makes you consistently work for the grade you want but she is incredible! The best prof. I've had at Foothill along with Lankford. Within an hour on day 1, I was convinced to get my Comm certificate with her. I made a RMP account just to review her! She's a true inspiration! TAKE HER - you won't regret it!

Mrs. Velasco was the teacher I've always wanted, but never knew it would be possible. Her lectures inspire you to great depths; she is thorough and kind and definitely cares about your future. I hold every other teacher up to her standard now.

Her class is very simple. Show up to class for lectures, complete your discussion posts on time. This is the major part of your grade so don't slack off on your discussion posts. There is one big final project (individual project) but you get creative freedom to do whatever you want and you have the option to present or not.

She is AMAZING! Class only met up five times in the quarter. Although I hate public speaking, we hardly did any in this course. Super fun and extremely easy for honors. Lots of extra credit. Would recommend this course for everybody.

Amazing instructor! I would take her again. Lots of reading, but it's very interesting. Her class is well structured and she grades assignments on time or even on the same day! She responds to emails, she's very encouraging with her words. This instructor is a true gem. Weekly journals, & you need to respond to classmates, 1 project and the final.

Great professor! She's very understanding of personal circumstance(s), and always willing to listen, so please don't hesitate to communicate with her! After all, she teaches COMM. :) I'm not sure why we had to buy the textbook when we didn't use it at all though.

Lauren Velasco is an amazing prof. She cares about students and always willing to help. She gives lots of space for student to write their journal as they wants and she never critizes but acknowledge you. Every week one discussion and one journal entry. Final exam included unlimited attempt multiple choices OR research essay. Very flexible.

took this as a completely online, asynchronous class. discussion/replies and journal posts every week, always due same day/time. clear/easy rubric to follow for all assignments to get full credit, couple of extra credit opportunities, and cumulative open book final :)

Professor gives you numerous opportunities to pass her class with an A. The only way you'll fail her class is by not trying at all. She is so sweet and helpful: if you ever have questions, she's ready to answer them. Plenty of extra credit and gives a lot of leniency for topics on projects, grades very leniently as well. Definitely take for an A!

I really liked this teacher and I learned a lot from her class. She really wants people to her and I recommend her class to anyone. There were multiple assignments to do every week but they were pretty easy. All you have to do is try and you can get an A.

Journal entries/discussions was rotated weekly. She's extremely nice, thoughtful and respectful to her students, leaving those entries open-ended. It made me feel more comfortable sharing my ideas/knowledge without getting judged on. Final exam: paper/exam - unlimited attempts available for 3 days. She provided 3 EC and frequently checks her email!

Such a good professor! Prompt grading, and is always willing to help you out. She truly wants her students to succeed. Manageable and enjoyable course load.

One assignment a week usually but all her 3 classes she teaches are different interpersonal is always a discussion and two projects mass is either a quiz or discussion with one project and intercultural is either a journal or discussion with a final exam or final project (quizzes and exam is many trys as you like) prompt grading "easy A"

She is really the best not only she is very caring and supportive for her students but she makes sure to make the class as stress free as possible her class basically a bi weekly journal or discussion post and one final and you get to choose if you want to do a 1000 word paper or a final exam overall great class to learn without stress!!!

Great class it is refreshing to have a class either one discussion a week or one untimed quiz both low stakes yes people might find her to be too much of an easy grader but thats her attention to get you to be creative without any limits and the final project is basically that too to explore your creativity so take her class it is great!
