She is definitely NOT an easy "A", but I have learned a LOT from her. I would not advise you to take her if you're looking for an easy class. If you want to work hard then you will DEFINTELY get something out of it.
This was a lab class; just keep up with the work and attend class! Ertle is very helpful and patient.
Attend class and that's most of the grade. She is extremely helpful, answers any ?s you have. She helps alot on labs, explains things clearly
she is the worst professor ever. she had me for anatomy and physiology lab. she did not know the material and never taught it before. SHE JUST SUCKS
I had her as a lab instructor. The class was very hard, but she does make a big effort to walk you through things. I took the ITV biology class and it didn't sync very well with the lab. The lab practicals were extremely hard for me.
Great professor! Just study what she tells you and you'll do fine.
I loved this teacher. The notes are interesting and clear and if you study them thoroughly, you will do fine on the exams. She is very helpful and willing to answer questions.
She writes her notes out on the board, she feels people learn better that way. She is not interesting at all, so it made the 2 hour Lec hard to take sometimes. The class is easy if you read your notes, she never used the book but I suggest you get it, I made an A with it and the person next to me made a C without it.
Mrs. Ertle is an excellent teacher. She does not seem interested in AP, but seems to have a fascination with Microbiology. Easy A, but must show up. Loves to help you, just stop by her office...
Very organized and prepared in her lectures. She cares about her students and wants them to do well. Gives lots of opportunity for extra credit and in class participation grades.
She really cares about her students. I had a traumatic event happen that caused me to miss a test, I wrote the paper she offered and got a 100 on it. It wasn't that great, but I tried and answered all the questions she asked. Really great instructor!!!
i am taking dual credit and this being her first year doing this she is really prepared. she really wants all the students to do well. she is really clear and helps you understand if something isn't.
I had her for my biology lab. She was very helpful and knows her biology very well. Her excitement for biology makes you want to learn more and keeps class boring free!
I had her for both lab and lecture for 1408-1409. excellent teacher, knows her material and is very enthusiastic about biology. Class is fun, and you get all the knowledge you'll need and a bit more. An A grade is possible and can be very easy to get, as long as you study and take good notes. tests format are 45 mult. choice and 5 short answer.
Very good teacher! Her online class was pretty easy. Her tests are based on her online lectures and some of the book, but not much. I have no complaints and would def. recommend her! I don't know about her on-campus lecture or lab though.
GREAT instructor. Very helpful with questions and feedback. Took her online and would definitely recommend her.
Professor Ertle is extremely helpful. I have taken several classes online and she has been by far the most helpful professor. Her class work and quizzes are fairly easy, her exams are brutal. I maintained an A even with the difficult exams. Great Professor would highly recommend her
Finally! A professor that doesn't rely exclusively on publisher material for an online class! I loved this class, tho I'm no bio major. She really clarifies the subject and is clear about assignments, responds to email, gives feedback. I will say, tho, tests & project are difficult; MUST follow directions and study!
Took the online class, lots of homework and stuff to read "DIDNT KNOW 2 TEST WOULD BE AT TESTING CENTER I GOT A BAD GRADE" I was a little mad that we had to take the test on campus since is a distance learning class...overall good professor and helpful...she answers email fast... and wants you to learn
Great professor overall. She makes sure you learn. I had her for both 1408 and 1409. An A is definitely possible. No worries with her.
Mrs. Ertle is a great teacher in the sense that she knows her stuff. I took her online course with her lab on campus. Lab attendance is mandatory. Loved that she gave us all important info online! The book is used as reference only - I didn't need it to pass class; however lab manual is essential! Show up, do work and you will pass... I did!
A great teacher!! I had her for Lab and she is very helpful and clear with instructions. Just read through the lab book excercise for that day before class and you will do good on the quizzes. She gives online makeup quizzes to replace low or missing quiz grades. This was definitely a fun class!!
Man let me tell you this fam, if you believe that God is your Lord and Savior then I advised you to take someone else, cause you'll need him throughout the semester.
Before taking this course, I was afraid of all science. Mrs. Ertle is a great teacher. I have learned so much just in this one semester. I would definitely take her again or recommend her to other students. I actually have a new love for biology, well science in general. If you want to learn, take her class. You won't regret it.
Lots of in-class assignments which are mostly participation grades so read the required chapters prior to class. Assigns weekly wikis that are an easy 100 if you follow the rubric. Exams compose of 40 MP with 5 short answers and an extra 5 for extra credit. Exams were very easy if you make the effort to study throughout the semester.
Mrs. Ertle is an AMAZING professor. I hated science before her class and she has inspired me to open my eyes to the bigger picture. Because of her, I decided to change my major to Biology. She gives very clear instructions and she has a great sense of humor. It's not a blowoff class by any means, but it is very possible to make an A! You got this!
Very hard keeping up, I think her main problems are that she is not very focused while giving lectures on one topic. Exams are redculous, meaning very hard. Honestly I would not recommend her at all she really is very hard
I took her for Lab only. Her knowledge helped me pass lecture with a different instructor. Quiz at the beginning of each class, 5 questions over results from last class and 5 questions over what you'll be doing that day. VERY helpful in lab, great instructions. Tests are easy, she gives great test reviews. 1 group project with clear expectations.
Professor Ertle is sweet, and wanted to help. I really enjoyed her for lab. I had a different professor for Lecture, and I was told that it was a much harder class than Professor Ertle's. There are a few quizzes, but no surprises. Mostly participation and 2 lab practicals. I would take her again. I got a 95 in lab. Don't be late, though.
Professor Ertle is one of the best professors that I've had at TCC and I've taken her twice now. She is always ready for class with a positive attitude. Class isn't too hard, just make sure you study for the quizzes in lab. Overall, great Biology Instructor who actually cares how well you do. Take her, and you won't regret it.
She's an okay instrutor, just show up early in class, because she gives a test every beginning of a class.
She's is great just study read both the lecture posted and the textbook, and you will do alright on her test.
Prof. Ertle is so so awesome! She's so nice and you can tell she really cares for students. The only thing is she talks kind of fast. Her lectures move fast and they are sort of long. Be prepared to take a copious amount of notes. Tests are easy if you study. If you miss class you won't pass because there's just so much information.
I took her online course and she is undoubtedly more helpful than any teacher I've had on campus. Provides an accurate course organizer, returns emails promptly, keeps up to date with the grades weekly, and makes the online class interesting. Any problems and she will help and make it work for you. Great instructor and I am taking her for 1409 too
Absolutely love her !!!! Great and easy to understand professor. She basically gives you everything you need for the tests and there are no surprise quizzes or tests. She is understanding as long as you communicate with her as to what might be happening in your life if you are struggling. Would take her at every opportunity.
If you want to pass the class just make sure you attend class because there are in class assignments, however they are super easy. She gives extra credit of 5 points added on to your grade. So i went from an 86 to a 91.I took her as a non biology major and would take her again in a heart beat.
She is seriously amazing. I, personally, have no idea why people thought this class was hard. She gives tons of extra credit on her tests(which aren't hard if you put a minimal amount of effort into studying). She is really good about teaching to all types of learners, auditory, visual, and she even remembers the kinesthetic learners.
This teacher is by far one of the best science teacher i have ever had, she made learning science fun, i had her for 1408 and 1409 lab and lecture and i have got to say shes pretty amazing, her test are supper easy and she makes it to where its almost impossible for your to fail, lab is something else its a bit tougher but its still passable.
Professor Ertle was such a blast to take. An amazing lady who truly cares about her students and about her profession. I took her for Bio 1409 lecture and lab. Work was pretty basic for Biology, it wasn't terribly difficult but definitely not an "easy pass". I would take her again in a heartbeat if I could. I highly recommend her!
I took Mrs. Ertle's class for Biology 1408 last semester and she is probably the best professor I've had at TCC so far. She is kind, helpful, patient, and gives you everything you need to know for her tests. She is always clear on directions and gives plenty of opportunities to answer any questions you may have. 5 stars.
There is a quiz everyday for class over the exercise that you are supposed to perform that day. 5 questions true and false and then 5 questions over what you did last class. 2 lab reports that are very easy as long as you do all the criteria. 2 tests are given and its around 50 questions that is on a power point which she displays.
Taking her lecture class for BIO1409 and I also have her for lab. She is upfront on her expectations and she is concern with the students expectations as well. She is an awesome professor, if you are looking for a great learning experience she is the one.
Definitely not an easy A. You have to work for it. She's a knowledgeable professor that cares about her student and would work with you if you talk to her. A lot of assignments, one group project, and 4 exams. Lab is pretty easy though. Offers extra credits.
This professor does not distinguish between major and non-major. You get the same work in both. Extremely hard. The lesson and notes are given, but she re-words everything on the quizzes and exams.
Ms. Ertle is wonderful. She truly cares about her students and helps you every step of the way through lab. She provides thorough, clear explanations and prepares you well for the practcals. Reviews are helpful. She makes micro fun and interesting. She is available, quick to post grades and gives you all the tools necessary to ace your unknown.
She gives out extra credit opportunities a lot. I actually learned something with interested
Does not grade fairly. Grades hard on in class assignments, which are three questions that can easily be googled. She is okay. probably wont curve either. plays by the books.
She is AMAZING. You will have to study all her power points to do well on her tests, but she offers extra credit on the exams... DO IT! that is why I earned an A. She is super helpful and is available to answer any questions you have. You have to work for your grade, but prof. Ertle is not the hardest professor out there.. just take her!
If you want to be a nurse take her class. She brought so many good case studies and outside material into the lecture specific to the health profession. She clearly states what your responsible for on the test. Save yourself some bucks and don't get the book, very lecture heavy and she explains everything with power points very well.
go to class everyday, pay attention, do labs, and you will pass. easy class! best professor ive taken by far. she makes microbiology interesting.
Don't buy the book, her lecture are straight from powerpt and free book online. Lect: She gives Test reviews, 2 online tests, 2 test in class and final compreh, 1 group presentation,1 lect quiz online weekly. Quizzes everyday in lab before class, you DO need the lab manual, 2 lab practicals and Unknown project, also a group quantitative report.
I took Ertle b/c i seen the comment about how shes great to take for nursing majors and she was. You dont need the book b/c everything on tests are over her PowerPoints and if she doesnt get a chance to cover the PP it wont be on the test. No extra credit. I advise to dont miss class, pay attention, study and youll pass.
Took professor Ertle for lab. Shes really nice and helpful! You WILL need your lab Manuel. She has pre lab quizzes so read! One group project/An unknown lab report. Only two lab exams which cover a lot of material. Her lab exams are easy as long as you study your lab Manuel. She does a review the day before exams. I recommend her!
You need to show up to class because there is a mini essay due each week about what we learned in class called wikis. Examples given in class are on the exam. There is a group project due before the final exam and will count about 15% of the grade. She is available during posted office hours and engages in community activities (if you love that).
Took her for both 1408 & 1409 Easily one of my favorite professors. I've scored more than 100% for both semesters because of her clear grading criteria and extra credits, gives good feedback on how to improve and reminds us of due dates. Tests are over her lectures & ppts so listen and take notes! Quick reviews & easy assignments & shes super nice!
Professor Ertle has been really great. Due to COVID, this class was online, however, she totally rocked it. She responds to emails very quickly, she is constantly updating on any changes made, and posts videos for labs that might need more explanation. There are a lot of assignments, but as long as you do the work you will be fine!
Weekly chapter reflections (Wikis), quizzes, lecture assignment, and labs. Seriously so so many assignments. She is helpful with guides for weekly homework, but things are worth like two points, and five points that take an hour to do. You have to buy the lab manual, and all exams are proctorio monitored. Felt like two classes with all the homework
I took Mrs. Ertle for lab and honestly it was a lot of work but I enjoyed it. You will work out of a lab manual, do a few labs at home (due to covid, online classes only), and other labs will be completed by looking at slides/pictures to determine the results. You have 2 group reports (killer) and an unknown bacteria lab that is a huge grade.
Truly one of those prof that hates their students. Petty assignments, hard to find due dates. SO many rules about every single thing. It just feels like she hates us. So many third parties to deal with, SI, TOPHAT, proctorio, etc. hard to reach. On ur own after day one. Every email I got was a help link lol. Do. Not. Take. -a normal student
Dude honestly I dont leave reviews but shes really lazy and puts more work into making SURE nobody is cheating than she does into her lecture. This teacher is not good at all. Sorry responses when you need help. Demotivated. Everything seems personal with her. Homework is in 4/5 different places. Literally always replies with idk
I honestly just cant do this class man. It sucked so bad. Real life one of those classes that just seems miserable. I wish tcc did better lol Im definitely transferring into UNT after this. Its just lazy and sorry inconvenient teaching lol. Not good at all
All Ill say is if you take this class man youre gonna have a bad time. So much attitude, old lectures from years ago, never responds quickly, usually one sentence. She takes advantage of the covid situation for sure. Tcc is great, this is the only horrible class Ive had. Id rather just fail. Abbbbbsolutely insane that we paid for this.
Prof. Ertle is a sweetheart. She's open-minded and responsive to students' concerns. If 3/4 of the class misses a question, she tosses it out & gives points back. She never asked quiz or exam questions that she had not covered during classtime. She also lets you have a cheat sheet for the exams. She made me enjoy micro! Great prof!!
I would not recommended taking this class! A lot of assignments/labs and only worth 2-3 points. Most of the exams are full of short answer questions not multiple choice options. Exams are proctored and gives a lot of unnecessary rules to follow or you get a zero. Never gives an answers to questions acts as if she doesn't understand.
Professor Ertle is a great instructor she is very understanding and kind.
She's amazing really. She lets you use notecards on ALL of the test she gives out a lot of homework and she actually teaches u and read straight from the book. She responds to email quick but u cant remake assignments if its due its due no matter what I barely got by but she has Extra credit. I had her for Lab as well. She's super caring.
Took Professor Ertle for 1408 lecture and lab, and 1409 lecture. Very easy-going, responds to emails on time, offers extra credit, allowed 3x5 size note cards to use on test. make sure to attend lectures because some material on tests isn't on powerpoints. No need for textbook.
I took professor Ertle because I had to retake the course after failing it online with another professor. I've never been really good in science, but I did pretty good in her class. There are students who don't go to lecture, but if you want to pass your exams go. She let's you use a notecard on exams and reviews briefly a day before exam day.
Took her for 1408 and 1409. Most of your points come from exams, but she tells you a lot of the stuff that will be on it. I would try to get her for lab too if you can cause the lab teacher for me went at a way faster pace. She is very understanding and responds to emails fast. 1-2 weekly assignments but they aren't too hard. Overall great teacher
Prof. Ertle is like that 1 high school teacher everyone loves. There's nothing bad to say about her; her lectures were somewhat note heavy and labs were fun. There are lecture quizzes and discussion posts due on Friday at the end of each week but they are super easy if you paid attention during class. 8/10 adored her!
I had her for the microbiology lab. She is very nice as a professor. She will list out topics and things that will be on the exams. She allowed students to use notes for quizzes sometimes. Overall, 10/10 experience with her lab.
She's amazing! She is very understanding and gives thorough instructions. There are 2 weekly assignments that are due every Friday at 11:59. One is a discussion post and a lecture quiz with 2 attempts. Powerpoints are given but don't just study those. The lab is very easy but do study your lab manual online. Several extra credit opportunities.
She was fantastic, the lectures were easy to understand and she has a review day to go over the upcoming tests. There are about a couple of assignments due at the end of every week but they are very simple. Very engaging lab, and was very kind. I would take her again she was great and knowledgeable.
Reads off slides but is also great at answering questions. Words things kind of oddly though.
I loved Professor Ertle! She follows along with her powerpoint slides. Lets you use a regular sized notecard for exams that aren't hard at all, weekly quizzes, lots of extra credit, she emails very fast, very understanding, usually lets you know what's going to be on the exam beforehand and her labs are engaging. Easily one of the best professors.
I took Prof. Ertle for BIOL 1408 Lecture with Lab and she's a great professor to take. Prepare to be engaged with her PowerPoints (also posted on Canvas) and lecture explanations. Allows us to use a notecard for Exams. Lab is engaging. Make sure to study well for Lab Exams as there aren't any notecards for them. Work hard and do you'll do well!
I will say that she's very difficult. She jumps over the place when she does get passionate, and it's difficult to retain information in this class for me. But she does gives us one note card.
1 group project that lasts a few weeks. Her class is easy and pretty fun. You get the grade that you put in the work for. If you do the work and actually study for exams, you'll pass. Tests are proctored but you can use an index card for notes. I'm taking her again for BIOL-1409. Enjoyed her class!
Professor Ertle's class is very engaging and fun when it came to learning new biology concepts, especially as a Non-Science major. She is quick to respond to emails, very understanding and encourages her students to read and watch the lectures to pass the class. She even provides extra credit and a note card to use on the exams.
she let us use the notecard for exam, but the lecture exams were so difficult, no matter what you will write in the paper, you won't find the answers for them. I almost dropped off the class because it was the lecture exams was so difficult. If you want to pass the class, take advantage of the assignments and lab exams and credit as well.
Ertle was great! She teaches you what you need to know for exams and lab; she has easy to read slides. She also does case studies and interactive stuff that helps you understand topics better :-) . She also allows a hand written flashcard for you to use during exams. Overall great prof and easy to reach and talk to outside of class.
Honestly a great professor all around and an even greater person. She cares about her students and has taken time out of her day to help me and others who did not understand something in the material. Her exams are tough! But if you study all the stuff she points out you will do pretty good and take advantage of the extra credit and test notecards.
I took Professor Ertle for 1408 & 1409. The class is not difficult by any means, but if you do not actually learn the work each week, the exams can be difficult. She allows 3x5 note card for exams and exams are proctored. Both courses had one group project which was pretty easy. Many opportunities for extra credit, which I should have utilized.
Professor Ertle was amazing! Usually, her lecture class consists of 1 quiz per week (13 total) 5 exams, and a project. Her lab consisted of 18 pre-lab quizzes which are easy to understand about 5 questions, 2 lab exams and an unknown lab report. She does talk fast however instructions are clear on the lab guide. Overall, fun lab class and easy.
This prof was one of the worst professors I've ever had. Her grading is so picky and would take points for the smallest things. Would I take her again? No, I would rather go join the army and juggle13 pizza boxes with one hand. When you ask her a question she would basically spit in your face and say go look for it in the book. Worst Prof on campus
Great teacher. Loved the way she taught with PowerPoints & textbook. Lots of extra credit opportunities that don't require much work.
Low key condescending to her students. Expects you to be an expert after just one demonstration. There's always a few questions on lecture exams that she never went over. Takes off points for asking simple questions during the final "unknown" project. Very disorganized and jumps around too much. She explains things out of order making you go crazy.
Reminds me of the vegan teacher. Very lecture heavy. Didn't explain very well. If you take her for lecture, take her for lab. Don't take a different teacher for lecture and lab because odds are they teach and grade differently and it will be hard to pass both.
After not taking any science courses since high school, Professor Ertle was great especially being an online lecture and lab. She was accessible for questions and concerns. She responds in a timely manner and breaks it down for you if needed. And it was an added bonus to have an SI tutor attached to the class also.
I had Professor Ertle for Micro lecture and lab. Lab assignments are fun at first but can get a little tricky. Lecture is very heavy in notes and there's lots of reading. Some material from lecture wouldn't be on tests and that became frustrating, but extra credit helped me maintain an A. She's helpful and understanding as long as you communicate.
This class is literally just High School Biology but on a college level super easy if you remember the basics. Lab is not that rough you just have to communicate in groups a lot. Lecture is full of stuff be ready to learn first day. You get to use notecards for some exams. YOU HAVE TO BUY A TEXTBOOK TO PASS HER CLASS be aware of that.
