Very nice teacher, relates to college students with sports. Easy class, very good teacher, would have her as a teacher again.
Laurie is the greatest teacher I've had at UNL so far. She explains concepts really well so it makes the class easy. She is funny and interesting so going to class is easy. Highly recommended!
She is a difficult grading teacher when it comes to giving half credit. She really enjoys economics and teaching but her texts were difficult.
I had this class early in the morning and Professor Miller was able to keep my attention and keep me awake! She relates well to colleges students and though her tests are a little difficult, they correlate very well with what we do in class. I will have her again next semester for a different course.
She does an amazing job of keeping you focused on the task at hand, learning economics. Wish I could have taken all my econ classes with her.
She keeps class very interesting. If you come to class and read your book, you should be able to grasp a lot of the material. She even takes chunks of class to just practice things and allow us to discuss the subject with our neighbors. I'm so thankful that I can take her 212 class next semester. She is very willing to contract for honors too.
Her teaching is good and all but her exams are slightly difficult. 40 questions in 50 questions with math included is just hard to do! It would be nice of her to give us more points than just exams and homework itself which makes it harder to boost up your grade after a bad exam.
She is cool but class is boring. Take notes the entire time. Her tests are pretty difficult, 40 questions in 50 minutes and a lot of the questions involve a lot of work.
She is very enthusiastic about the topics covered but I think she could do much more practice problems instead of lecturing in class because the tests are only calculation problems and no multiple choice.
Interesting class, she is very understanding and realizes we are college students. The only negative is the tests that are 40 questions in 50 minutes! Lots of note taking, and there are plenty of resources to use!
I found this class very hard and Laurie Miller to be extremely hard to listen to. I did not enjoy her style of teaching, but if I could redo the class, I would go to her office hours to receive help as I heard that students who did that were more successful
Dr. Miller is a great econ teacher who is willing to help out students in need. She is good at explaining economics in terms everyone can relate to. Her tests can be difficult but the in-class practice problems, as well as the ones posted on Blackboard, help out a lot. I highly recommend!
Laurie Miller is THE best professor that CBA has in the Econ department. She is funny and definitely keeps you interested the entire class period. Her tests are kind of difficult, but as long as you study and do the practice problems, you should be fine. I HIGHLY recommend taking her class. She is fantastic.
AMAZING professor. Dr. Miller is willing to help any student who needs help. She is there FOR STUDENTS which is a rarity in some professors. She teaches very well. Easy to listen to and follow along in class. Tests are average, always need to study and do the practice problems. She is great though, truly.
Miller is a good professor, make sure you write down what she is saying and not just what is on the powerpoint. A lot of things you need to know for the test are what she is lecturing about, not what is posted online or in the powerpoints. I suggest attending class because you do a lot of in class examples that reflect most material.
I loved Economics before I took this class. Her exams are difficult because you have 50 minutes, and she gives minimal partial credit. She defines the reason I am frustrated with our educational system. She actually told me Economics doesn't apply to daily life and couldn't look me in the eyes. I gladly paid to drop her class. Life improved greatly
She's a really nice teacher and enjoys teaching. Her exams are really tough though which made this class awful. We had to do 40 questions in 50 minutes which was ridiculous. She barely gives extra credit at most is 10 points. Overall, she's a good teacher.
Excellent econ teacher. Dr. Miller is very passionate and enthusiastic about her subject matter. Know how to do her practice problems, because the tests can be pretty difficult.
Never had a class where she wasn't enthusiastic. She held not only office hours but virtual office hours so students could get extra help. Her tests are difficult but are extremely well written and tests whether or not you actually understand the material. I would recommend her for and Economics course and I move for UNL to double her salary.
Great teacher!! I wish I could take her for more advanced classes too! She made math fun and interesting and genuinely wanted to relate to the students and help us succeed. She also brought in two guest speakers throughout the semester to help us be more well rounded people/professionals. Loved her!
Prof. Miller is the most caring and helpful teacher I've had. I've taken 2 courses with her and if you look over the practice problems online and ask questions during her Virtual Office Hours, you will do fine in the class. Tests aren't easy, but she makes class fun with her passion and energy.
Teacher lectures about random stuff, does a single example or two, announces that should be plenty of examples, then gives a backwards version of the in class example on the tests. Class was way more work than its worth. Great if you are econ major.
I have never taken an economics class before. Laurie does a great job explaining things to you. If you need help, she is there. Use her office hours, VOH, and TA to your advantage!
Very enthusiastic. You will not find a teacher more excited about teaching economics. A lot of charisma and radiance. But remember: YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND THE THEORY CONCEPTUALLY, MATHEMATICALLY, AND GRAPHICALLY. If you have a hard time making a connection between a graph, a mathematical equation, and a real life story, this class might be too hard
She was really fun and engaging. It was a fairly simple class, you just had to put in a little bit of effort
I recommend everyone takes her class, its fairly easy if you put the time and effort into learning the material and not just memorizing it. Pros- she is very helpful and engaging in class, so attendance is important, Her final test is fairly easy and you have alot of oppurtuintys to get extra points. Cons- Her Test are farily diffcult.
She is a really nice teacher! She tried to make the boring parts more interesting for us. One thing to be careful with in her class is making sure you really understand the material because the exams can be challenging and your grade is based on 3 exams and your homework averaged.
Makes class interesting, always tries to make her dry material interesting. Get ready for a lot of calculus and other mathwork.
She's a nice person and she keeps her lectures fun but sometimes she lacks giving us the information we need for exams and homework. She will make you work for your grade. Her exams are tough and she offers little extra credit.
Know how to simplify with algebra, class is difficult but she is always willing to help.
A lot of math. It is wise to be confident in your basic calculus. The tests can be difficult but they are doable. Be prepared to work but she makes it fun and interesting. You can really tell that she is passionate and makes things easier to understand. Would take from her again! recommended!
Laurie Miller is an amazing teacher. She makes lectures fun and interesting. The tests are super tough though and hard to study for. If you go to her office hours she will help you and occasionally gives out extra credit during class
Pretty good teacher keeps it interesting, but had a terrible experience in the class because the tests are incredibly hard. She puts things on tests that do not come up in class and almost tries to trick you.
My favorite professor. I have taken 3 classes with her & they were all great. She makes class very entertaining & relates well with students. Her classes are kind of tough but very doable. She challenges you to make sure you really understand the material. She will help if you ask. You dont really need to read but go to class if you want to do well
Dr. Miller was a great professor! ECON can be difficult to wrap one's head around (especially for non-business majors like myself), but she made it easy to understand and took things at a manageable pace. You'll need to actually understand the material to do well on exams, but they accurately reflect what is covered in lecturereadingshomework.
She always has morning lectures but usually warms you up with a story. If you go to class you won't have to read the book, though she chooses really easy to read texts. She is super nice, but she does expect you to really learn the material. Always helpful during office hours even just about questions about the department.
One of my favorites here at UNL.
Wonderful teacher. Amazing. Really knows her stuff, but she also knows what she wants from you and if you don't give it, you shouldn't expect a good grade. She's super nice too.
I hate economics, but Professor Miller made this class enjoyable and beneficial for me. She is a great lecturer in my opinion, she makes the topics and the context easy to understand. Also, she uses examples that relate to students, like sports, alcohol, etc. Her tests are tough, but fair, multiple choice. I would completely recommend, to anyone
She makes the material really easy to understand if you go to class, and will even tell you a test question sometimes. She doesn't really seem to care whether we do well or not so if you want a professor like that I would not choose her.
Dr. Miller did a great group teaching the course. Her course is a points accumulation, with only 250 total points (150 worth of exams, 44 for quizzes, and 56 for homework). My advice would be for people to refresh their math skills before taking this course as you have to use calculus to work through this level of economics.
Really enjoyed her lectures and she does a good job keeping students interested in the topics being taught. Always willing to help if you have questions especially if you go to her office hours. Give great exam reviews posted before the tests for you to take.
Makes lectures interesting. Attendance doesn't effect grade but she will most likely give a pop quiz and extra credit points sometime during the class.
Took Mirco and Macro with her and thought the program she used for Macro was much easier. Tests are NOT easy so you really need to study. No attendance is taken but you want to be there for the lectures so you dont miss out on important info. Dr. Miller is easy to listen to and makes econ a little more bearable.
I took Dr. Miller for both ECON 211 and 212. Dr. Miller has interesting lectures and keeps her students interested in class. 212 used a better program for homework but had attendance points. I feel students would benefit from doing examples immediately after learning something important instead at the beginning of the next class. Overall was great
Dr. Miller is a great professor. She has multiple resources each semester including a peer mentor, TA and herself. Homework is all online and the only other grade is exams. She does give out participation points though.
This professor gives extremely low points and deduct your points from any perspective. DON'T choose this professor's course if you want to get good grade and don't talk to her when you have problems, she just suppose everything she did and never accept any excuse or reasonable situation.
Extremely hard if you are bad at math.
This is my third class with Dr. Miller, I think she is a wonderful professor. She always puts in 110% during her lectures. But as many people have said, her exams are very difficult if you do not know the material thoroughly. What makes her so great, is her kindness and willingness to help student learn not only as a student but also as a person.
Dr. Miller is the most passionate teacher about her subject that I have had at UNL. She truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Her class is easy if you attend, pay attention, and study for the tests. I would retake one of her classes in a heartbeat!
Dr. Miller is a great teacher that cares about her students and LOVES her job. Take her over any other econ teacher. 5/460 points for participation so you don't have to go if you do well on the exams. She doesn't bump people, but she does care about helping you, and will give you everything you need to succeed. look at the inclass work 4 tests
The exams are tough, so if you're not a good test-taker I would recommend doing the homework and showing up to rack up those points. She wants you to understand the material thoroughly so try to memorize concepts. Attendance is taken everyday and she does have multiple resources available.
Really awesome teacher. Super energetic and clearly loves to teach. With that said, 312 is a pretty hard class. At times it feels like a math class with economic concepts being very minor. She gives you a decent amount of material to prepare for the exams, but her exams are very tricky and she will switch things up on you.
The lectures are good because they show examples of how to do everything, but reading the book is also necessary. The tests can be kind of difficult, but if you pay attention to the examples she shows yo in class, you should be okay.
I love Laurie! She is absolutely amazing however the course is very test oriented and economics is a hard thing to be tested on. However she tried to be relatable and make it as pain free as possible.
Laurie is a fairly good instructor. You certainly have to put a lot of time and effort in, but she is not terrible. The biggest thing I struggled with was that she asks about stuff on the test that she doesn't talk about in class. You really have to read the textbook, and find study tools on your own. DO THE PEER MENTOR QUESTIONS!
Laurie is great professor. She teaches in a way that you will understand it but at the same time you have to study to really understand it. Math is easy for ECON 211 and 212 but its lots of concepts. Her exams are hard, she does like to trick you. Read book, go to peer mentor, notes on printed slides. Points for attending.
Excellent professor. She's super engaging, funny, and intelligent. She understands the best ways to teach, uses technology effectively, and explains each concept very clearly. I actually learned a lot thanks to her. Make sure to finish all the review and practice problems before the tests. It will help a lot.
Dr. Miller is an overall fantastic professor who is very caring and makes lectures on very dry subjects entertaining or bearable. Tests can be difficult, you really have to know how to apply concepts as well as have an ability to adjust on the fly as it may ask a question you have not seen before. Overall, a great professor who I highly recommend!
Dr. Miller is probably the best teacher that I have had in college. Her classes aren't a walk in the park but she tests you on what she has taught you and she wants to see you succeed. If you pay attention and go to class you will receive the grade that you deserve based on how much you care about school.
Miller made me actually excited to learn macro, which I thought was something that could never happen. She is really great at helping you understand the concepts. Go to class, attendance is mandatory. Lots of homework but it pays off and will boost your grade.
No exceptions if you are in class but have technical difficulties for attendance pts. HW includes LS, HW, Videos; all online. Super expensive class materials. Somewhat good at lecture, doesn't know how to explain concepts more simple to be understood easier. Not available outside of office hours, tests are nothing like HW or what's learned in class
Dr. Miller is a great professor, but her lectures are fast paced so if you fall behind it'll be tough to catch up. Lectures are pretty basic, so you will have to do a lot of studying and do the homework to fully understand the concepts and prepare for the tests. If you do bad on the tests (4), you will struggle getting an A or B in the class.
Attendance is mandatory as she uses top hat application. All homework, video assignments have to be done if not say goodbye to your grades. Exams are a little tricky. Helpful lecturer during office hours. Not a linear lecturer when it comes to requests for an extension for due dates.
I loved Laurie. Her lectures were solid and if you put in the effort to truly learn the material you will do well in the class. She is a tough grader and was only available one day outside of class, however she also had a TA and course tutor that were available as well. Economics is not an easy subject, but she makes it bearable and enjoyable
Normally I love Dr. Miller's classes, but this course has been one of the worst I have ever been through. She flies through the material very fast and there is no hard copy schedule of where we are at in the textbook. You can know the worksheets and review problems she gives inside and out, but they will not help you on the exam at all.
If you're willing to work for it, this is a great class and Dr. Miller is a wonderful teacher. The class is mainly theory based. Don't need to buy the book but it would be helpful. Online homework and quizzes each week, three written assignments, and three tests. She does a good job of helping us learn how to apply the theory. Tests are TOUGH.
She is a really nice professor, but she expects A LOT from you in this class. You need to read the book, watch YouTube videos, and see the TA on a regular basis if you want to pass this class. Her tests are some of the toughest you will encounter here at UNL so make sure you can recite the material so well you can do it intoxicated.
Laurie Miller is AMAZING. She is a hard teacher, but she is also the best. Her tests are hard, but she can almost do that because she teaches the material so well. Book isn't needed but it defs help. She posts an outline that corresponds with the book of what will be covered. Must know the material inside and out. Overall, amazing teacher.
It's a hard class, but if you show up to class, she will give great lectures and you should pass (also study the exam review) People who struggled in this class struggled b/c they missed one day and fell behind because everything gets built on top of each other. She curved our first test, and gave 2.7% extra credit using poll everywhere.
Amazing professor who is incredibly accessible outside of class & lets you know what is going on within the college. For class, showing up is extra credit; however, there are typically little quizzes over the homework or past lectures. Read her syllabus before the first day and take a notebook b/c she doesn't like laptops being out during class.
Great professor. Fantastic lectures. Would recommend. You do have to put in some work, but if you pay attention you will do well. Also she is perfect.
Laurie is a great professor that knows how to engage students in the classroom. Regardless of if you try to sit in the back and not pay attention, she will talk to you and get you involved. The level of difficulty is dependent on your background in math and how you did in basic econ courses. If you're a math person that did well in econ, very easy.
Miller is a great teacher and actually gets you to understand econ. I was dreading another econ class, but she made it very easy to understand, but you do have to put a decent amount of work in for a good grade. For sure one of the better econ professors at UNL.
Miller is a good teacher but if you are looking for an easy A do not take this class. I have friends in the other Econ 212 class and they have nearly an A and do little to no work. I enjoy her classes but the content is difficult especially if you are not a math person. Do not skip class and expect to pass
Dr. Miller is hilarious! She cares a lot about her students and really wants to make the larger lecture halls feel like smaller classrooms. She is helpful during office hours and easy to contact outside of class. As long as you come to class prepared to pay attention, take notes, do your homework, you'll do just fine!
If you're a math person, this class is a breeze. Nothing on the exams should be surprising and if for some reason the class isn't doing well, or most of the class struggled on an exam she tries to give ways for everyone to improve their scores/get extra credit. I love her class, absolutely amazing professor. Also, she will know you, you can't hide.
Dr. Miller is the best! Took her for 311, declared an Econ minor because of her, and now I'm taking 312 at 8:30am with her (which is saying a lot because I am NOT a morning person). Favorite professor in the COB, hands down; she's funny, kind, and gives you all the tools you need to succeed. The math is fine, just algebra. Know how to read graphs.
The tests do not match what you go over in class or homework. I did all the homework, studied, attended class, and still got a terrible grade. When I emailed Professor Miller about this she pretty much said that I should work harder and too bad. Make a smart economic decision and don't waste your money on this awful class.
Miller is tough- I've taken three classes with her. Some of the hardest work I've done in college is in these classes. But she's a phenomenal teacher, is willing to help, clearly explains, and gives you tons of resources to do well. If you do poorly in her classes thats on you-- put in the work your grade will reflect it.
By far the best professor that I've had at UNL. Lectures are extremely helpful and if you don't work to learn the material you may struggle, but overall she presents it in a way that makes it easy to understand. For each unit, instead of a book you watch videos and do a HW assignment, and tests (all multiple choice) make up 70% of your grade.
Lectures are very boring and there is a lot of busy work due online for completion. However, the grading very fair, there is an opportunity for extra credit, and the tests are easy if you know all the content.
Dr. Miller is easily one of the best professors at UNL. She goes through lots of practice questions in lectures and puts out enough study materials online for you to be able to succeed in her class. She also has extra credit options. If you put the work in, you'll do fine in her class. I would highly suggest taking econ with Dr. Miller if you can!
Laurie compared topics to our lives to make them more relevant and easier to relate to and understand. I enjoyed her humor and enthusiasm during lectures. No cramming for the tests. You have to know the material inside and out, especially the Whys. Everything builds, too, so don't rely on short-term memory. No trick questions, just former material.
One of the funniest and relatable professors I've had. You can tell she cares about the information. The class isnt easy but she's good at teaching the material so with a little studying you should be good
She screwed me over on attendance then tried to blame it on me also her class isn't the best structured, not a fan.
I would not recommend taking this class unless you want to study for days and still get a bad grades. The whole class did horrible on the 2nd exam but didn't change anything in her teaching style. Available for office hours but not helpful.
She's not the best, not awful either. She has us watch videos as homework and then lectures on the videos. Just not the biggest fan of her or her teaching style
Laurie Miller is not good at what she does. Her class is not structured in a helpful way and doesn't adapt to how the students are learning. The more she lectures the more confused she makes us. She is not helpful in office hours and always comes at us in a very demeaning and condescending tone.
Incredibly long boring lectures where she usually rambles about her life for the first 20 mins that nobody cares about. The class has about 5hours of hw a week but you are only graded on 3 hard tests which practically make or break your grade. Not qualified to teach and is not even smarter than your average parent in terms of conversational skills.
Dr. Miller is one of the best professors I've had at UNL. I took 212 with her and loved it. If you go into office hours or just talk to her, you can tell that she genuinely cares about your success. The 4 exams are all multiple choice and not cumulative, but worth nearly 70% of your grade. Go to lectures and it will help you significantly.
The regular lectures were pretty boring, but I was able to learn just from going to the lecture. However, in the shift to online due to COVID-19, Dr. Miller did not do online lectures and left us to try to teach ourselves without helping at all, which to me shows that she doesn't care if her student's actually learn and understand the material.
Terrible teacher do not see how anyone could like her unless you wan ta class where your grade is determined by 4 hard tests.
This was a tough course but if you attend lectures, take good notes and go to Dr Miller's office hours you will pass. She is very engaging in lectures and makes them relatable and enjoyable. Would recommend taking Macroeconomics with Dr. Miller!
There's not much positive to say about Laurie. She is an awful professor that makes students teach themselves and grade is only affected by a few things. In the transition to online classes, Mrs. Miller decided not to post online lectures, so us students were forced to learn on our own. I attended every lecture did all HW and wound up with a C+
I had her for 212 last semester and made sure that I got her for 211. Her lectures are helpful, interesting, and sometimes funny. She presents the material in ways that connect to real-life. The tests are 40 questions, multiple-choice, and not cumulative. You can't cram though; you have to understand the material. She makes you work for an A.
As a non-business student (GLST), ECON 211 was difficult but Dr. Miller's lectures and office hours were very helpful. She can be amusing in lectures and she brings in real-world examples to help understand the big ideas. Tests are difficult and you must seek out assistance if there's a part that you don't get. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It makes a B a A
Dr. Miller is a great person and you will have an easy time getting to like her. However, her classes are very tough and her exams are notoriously difficult. You'll have to do a lot of studying. Overall probably the hardest business class I've had yet. Covid-19 class wasn't great, it brought my grade down significantly.
A hard class but if you put in the effort you will do well. She is a very accommodating professor and was there to help me. Office hours helped a lot in this class.
Dr. Miller is a great professor hands down. She is understanding and really wants everyone in her class to succeed. That being said econ isn't inherently easy so the class is still somewhat difficult and time consuming. A classic case of "if you go to class and pay attention you will be fine"
She's friendly and a good professor. She is very helpful if you need it. Although econ is hard and there aren't any extra credit opportunities. She will not round your final grade either.
Dr Miller is a great economics professor and I highly recommend her! She is well-respected, but also down to earth/relatable in her lectures.
The online exams for this class was the most worthless thing ever. She uses programs/interactive diagrams that we never use on the homework and then just expects us to understand them. They make no sense and you just get thrown in off of the deep end. Definitely would not recommend!
Taking this class all online was difficult. She never posted her own lecture videos, she made us watch these 3-5 minute videos through the online book. I feel like I was teaching myself the whole time. Tests made up 62% of our grade. I and other people I know would do all the material and study and still end up with really bad grades.
Definitely can't be lazy in this class. She doesnt count for attendance but she only posts the lecture slides and not any videos with work she does in class, so show up if you want any shot of passing. Exams are meant to trick you/be confusing and she literally expects you to know econ inside and out to do well on tests. Just don't take w/ Miller
Econ is a tough class for me, but she explained things thoroughly in her lectures. There was a lot of assignments to complete during the week. The exams were difficult since the assignments would have a different question layout from them. I do wish there were more outside class options for material i.e lecture videos. She only posts slideshows.
I HATED THIS CLASS! Her lectures were so boring, and I took so many notes that they did not help me. There are 3 assignments due every week, and some would take an hour. Would give us practice tests that looked nothing like the exam. The test were soooo hard. I would think I understood the information but do bad.
Tests one attempt and are very hard. There are only 3 exams so they are high stake. I can only finish half of the exam before time is up. Tests questions are often type in the answer and not multiple choice. She only posted the days she hosted office hours, not the times. We got a new TA halfway through that was clueless on practice test questions.
I wish Laurie Miller taught all the Econ courses. She is amazing. The class can be difficult but she goes into it so well during lectures, gives back points on exams, and is very personable. She always made us laugh and would help us whenever we were confused. She is the best professor I've ever had.
Awful, didn't teach the class and talked about her personal life the entire time. Answer keys for exam reviews were constantly incorrect and there was essentially zero feedback the entire semester. Relies on video lectures that are created by other people and exams are in different format than reviews and homework. Very out of touch with students.
I think her lecture was great. attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want to get a good grade in her class, its better to just go to the lectures. But her lectures are interesting and engaging. Her exams are harder comparing to the home works.
Challenging class, but worth it if you're willing to put in the work. Lectures are engaging, but textbook and assignments are time-consuming. Use unstuck ai along with other study tools to ace the difficult exams.
