I took her class to get my math requirements out of the way, but she made me remember my love for the subject, and I added a math major for 2 years before I switched away because of proofs. She also had awesome hair when I had her class!

Awesome Professor!! I was worried about taking math 11 and 12 because I had not had calculus in high school. Her teaching is so clear and she was so helpful in office hours. I ended up with an A in both Math 11 and Math 12. If you have a chance take Prof. Poe for at least one class!!!! She's terrific.

Prof. Poe is the best math teacher ever! I hate math (on a good day), but I actually enjoyed her class and did very well. If you show up, take good notes, do the homework, and don't freak out on the tests, then you'll be fine. Everything is curved, so even if a test is hard it doesn't matter. She's great; you'll love her class.

Professor Poe is amazing. I don't think I've ever gotten an A in a math class, but hers made it very possible. She will help you any time you need it and she explains things VERY thoroughly. You MUST go to class though. If you don't go, you're probably not going to do very well. But if you do and do all the homework, you'll be fine!

Poe is a fun and exciting teacher who managed to make me enjoy going to math class--an ability that no teacher since Mr. Stone for high school geometry has been able to duplicate. On top of that, the material is fairly simple (venn diagrams and the such), so I recommend this class to anyone who would gain credit for it.

She's great!! Super clear; super helpful in office hours; always willing to answer any question in class. Her tests have one or two kind of hard questions, but she curves them so it all works out. Attend class every day and do the homework and ask questions and you'll do great. She's super cool, too. I will only take math from her!!

POE is an interesting character. She is very enthusiastic about her teaching, however if you're looking for an easy A definitely not the class. She grades all of the assignment herself which can hinder your final grade. Also she is very meticulous with grading. Overall if your an average mathematician don't take this class.

Poe is great. I had Math 8 and Math 11 with her and really enjoyed both. When you're done you'll know the material backwards and forwards. Grading is fair - always curved. She's super clear in her explanations. She really cares about students. The best math teacher I've ever had!

Really fun teacher and makes things pretty clear. She's SUPER nit-picky on exams, so do your best to be anal when reviewing your test before turning it in. She seems to care about students. If she doesn't do it in your class, ask if she can write her own study guide rather than giving you a bunch of book problems. It really helps with reviews.

Great professor!! She grades her own homework, which is really helpful because she makes sure you see exactly what you're doing wrong so you can fix it for the tests. I was definitely skeptical going into this class having last taken AP Stats my senior year of high school. Taking this class as a sophomore, I remembered much of what I was taught. She is probably one of the best math profs/teachers I have ever had. She provides students with a plethora of examples, goes over handouts she puts together herself in class, and makes herself available for questions all the time and especially before midterms. She has a subtle humor too, unexpected, but still funny.

I loved Professor Poe!! She was clear, nice, and always happy to explain things in more detail. She's a great teacher. She made Math 6 pretty simple and helped us prepare for the exams.

Great teacher for those of us who need to take Math 6 as a requirement. It's a very low stress class, she doesn't move too fast, and she explains the concepts so clearly that you can really master the material.The midterms test the important topics and you feel well-prepared for them. She's also really nice and funny too!

Professor Poe is hilarious, easy to understand, and really teaches you how to do things in a positive way. Best math teacher I've had in years! Her tests are challenging and her final was hard, but definitely manageable to pull an A or B in the class with reasonable effort! Take her!

i've had poe twice now and both times been impressed by how clearly she presents the material. i am NOT a math person but she's made both classes manageable. as long as you keep up with the homework and use old quizzes and the study questions she provides before the tests and midterms it isn't too hard to do well in her classes.

Best math prof! Breaks up boring math with funny stories when she notices the class zoning out. You can't use calculators so know you long division. Highly recommend if didn't have calc in high school.

I had the privilege of taking Math 6, Math 8, Math 11 and now Math 12 with Prof. Poe. She is an outstanding professor who genuinely cares about her students. She makes the material extremely clear and provides ample opportunities for practice and asking questions. She makes math fun with her one-of-a-kind humor. A must-take professor at SCU!

This class was very difficult and frustrating for me, but Professor Poe is very funny and will clarify anything in office hours. Tests are hard, but you learn a lot. It is worth it to take Calculus from a high quality teacher than it is to get an easy A teacher. You won't regret having her as a professor! It is a pleasure!

Professor Poe does a great job of breaking down the course material, however it seems that she often rushes through her lectures. I found that I was spending most of my attention trying to keep up with her writing on the board. Also, her office hours are pretty bad. Had a difficult time finding a way to make it over to her.

Poe really does care about your success/understanding in class (ask for help when needed!). She takes the time to grade hw by herself & returns them on time (this is rare for some other profs), provides resources (review sheets, practice problems, etc.), and tries to be as clear as possible during lectures. Overall, an encouraging and kind prof!

This was second time I took Dr. Poe. She's the best math professor for the lower division math classes. She's pretty helpful and her teaching of the material is clear with a lot of examples. There's homework for every class but she grades it herself and provides good feedback. Definitely do the exam review and come prepared. Tests can be hard.

Stats is hard but Poe explains things super well so the class ends up being easier. She is really good at explaining how to think through problems. When I took tests I could hear her in my head helping me figure out what to do. She is nice, patient, funny, and wants her students to do well. Don't skip class. I did once and was lost. Take Poe!!

I think she is the best professor that I had in the math depart. That is not saying very much, because the math department is terrible at SCU. I feel sorry for people who have to take multiple calc classes. Anyways, she is a good lecturer, but some of her test problems are hard. Also, tests are only out of 30 points or so, so you can't miss much.

Dr. Poe is great! She only assigns around 5 homework problems a night and doesn't believe in wasting your time. Tests are clear and straightforward with no tricks. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but your homework has to be in by classtime: either by turning it in in person, sending it with a friend, or sliding it under her door. The best!

Poe is super nice and such an excited teacher. She really loves what she teaches, and that comes across in her class. There's daily homework, and three midterms. The first is super easy, second is HARD, third is not so bad. Just go to class and pay attention and you'll do fine.

If you have to take math, take it with Poe! In the Fall, I had to drop Math 35 bc the pace was too fast. Poe does go a bit fast (or maybe I am a slow writer haha). I recommend attending her office hours every few days to get one on one attention. Her tests are tough, but the curve is very nice!

One of my favorite teachers at SCU. Energetic lectures and willing to help outside of class. Daily homework graded for completion but feedback is provided. Tests are similar to review problems, and she awards pts for partially correct answers with work shown. She tends to teach early times (8 and 9 am), but her class is worth getting up early for!

First math class I've ever done well in. Math is really hard for me, but Prof. Poe goes out of her way to help. She's exceptional. Her notes and problems from class are super helpful. Btw, I have never heard her say material was easy and imply students were stupid. Quite the opposite: explained material was hard but that we were "wicked smart."

Loved Poe!!! I had her for MATH 11 and MATH 12. She gives very specific lectures and tells you what you need to know about the material. She's cuts to the chase. When I took MATH 13 my friend group kept saying how much we missed her. Although I didn't get the best grade, she made me work A LOT and it prepared me well. Would take her again!

Math 12 is a tough class, but Prof. Poe breaks the material down super clearly. She gives tons of extra practice and provides homework solutions for many of the harder homework problems. I LOVEEEE PROFESSOR POE! I absolutely hated math and she made everything seem so simple and digestble. I can not recommend her enough, PLS TAKE HER! She's the kindest, most caring and best professor you'll take!

Prof Poe is an amazing teacher! Her lectures are clear, and she genuinely cares about student success. For prep, I found unstuck ai and the free textbook super helpful. Definitely take this class if you can!

Can't say enough good things about Professor Poe! Best math prof ever!!! I highly recommend her MATH 9 section! If you pay attention in class, study just a little, and take good notes, you will get an A. I got a B because I slacked a little in the middle of the quarter (that's on me).

Prof. Poe is easily the best teacher I have ever had. I struggled my entire life with math, but she makes things super clear, gives excellent study advice, relevant HW and review problems. Very kind person who truly cares about students as learners and as people. Workload fair, tests and overall grades curved generously. HW graded on effort.

She is a very good professor, but she is very lecture-heavy. During the lecture, she moves very quickly but will go back if asked questions. It also takes time to make sure that she asks questions about the previous homework and if there is any confusion on the topic. Overall she is a great teacher and would recommend her.

Highly recommend. Very clear explanations. Very helpful in office hours. Lots of review in class. If you go to class and understand the homework and review problems, you'll do well. She's also very nice and funny with a lot of energy.

Loved Professor Poe! She loves all her students and it shows. She helped me get into a math 30 class when there were no more spots available. Two midterms, no final, homework due every class and no late credit. Check-in quizzes every once in awhile but are only graded for completion and effort.

Take her class if you can. I'm not a math person at all and did horrible on the CRE, but I left Math 9 totally ready for Calc. I was ahead of others in my Calc class and surprised myself with how well did. She cares about every student and wants them to do well. She reviews before exams and gives lots of practice problems. She's the best!!

She's awesome. Makes everything seem super simple and apparent. Pretty funny and really cares about her students. Homework is very helpful as she gives answers and asks you check your work before turning it in, you can see what you got wrong, and where you went wrong. If you're confused she'll work with you until you get it.

Love Prof. Poe!! Explanations are perfect. Homework is manageable and prepares you for tests. Gives lots of practice problems. Repeats key points over and over so they sink in. Two review days before tests. Will answer questions by email. Super nice. Tests are pretty straight forward and she curves generously.

I found her teaching style super helpful. She's really clear in lecture. She's super helpful in office hours, and responds to emails very quickly. HW is A+ for effort, so there's no penalty for incorrect answers. I liked being able to keep my mistakes on my HW so I knew which problems I needed to review extra. I wish she was teaching Math 13.

laurie is a very kind professor who clearly cares about her students. the subject can definitely be difficult but she is always willing to help and wants everyone to learn. she randomly takes off points sometimes on homework with little to no explanation, but other than that she grades fairly. definitely take poe even if its an 8am

It is very clear that she is passionate about her job and she cares about her students. The homework is relatively easy and the tests follow the same structure. At times, she takes points off for small tedious things but pretty much all teachers do that. She was always smiling and happy and made me laugh, I would take the class again

Dr. Poe made me enjoy math again. I took precalc in high school and got a C, and absolutely hated math. She made me love it, and I understood everything she was saying. She made math so much easier to understand and lectures were taught in a way where it was easy to follow and take in. She has pop quizzes that are graded off completion.

Prof. Poe is amazing! She has 2 hour blocks for office hours and so there are always opportunities to get help. Her grading format is very balanced and gives you multiple chances to show your learning. I specifically scheduled around taking her next term as she was so good.
