Good instructor for Bio. Lots of powerpoints and involves tedious note-taking. Textbook reading is essential to do well. Attendance is mandatory. Avoid disruptive talking in her class. She gives "extra" credit. May count against your grade if you don't do any! I got a B+ for this reason. Tests are okay if you study.
Great professor,is approachable and always willing to help. As long as you study, attend class, and take notes you should do fine
Loved the teahcer!! Class consisted of note taking from power points, extra credit Iclicker questions, and some in class group work. Reading the chapters is a must for her test! Tests are hard, but with good study prep you'll do fine! She's super helpful to!!! Ask questions and be willing to answer her questions!!
Attendance is mandatory, test are pretty hard so study accordingly,4 tests and in class goup assignments, and iclicker questions. She will drop your four lowest iclicker question scores and one of the group assignments.
Great professor! Attending class is mandatory because of clicker question and notes. She is helpful and she is down to earth. Exams are easy as long as you study the class notes. I hate Biology, but she is the best bio teacher I've ever taken.
Straightforward class; attend if you want clicker points, 4 exams, some in class assignments, & easy homework assignments. I didn't dislike her, she just made a bland subject even more boring. The material is very basic and easy. Co-enrolling in the lab is very helpful! Show up to class, take notes, focus, study, and you'll get a good grade.
Terrible teacher, gives examples that are not even close to being correct. You have to attend class because of clicker questions. Cover 15 chapters of very boring material and the final is cumulative. If you have had a good bio teacher in high school this class in general won't be too hard. If you take her just read don't listen to her lecture.
Okay, those who did not do well in this class is due to their own lack of responsibility and organizational skills.Yes,you do have to come to class and yes you have to take well written notes. It's up to you if you want a good grade. She's very organized and straight to the point on her lectures. Study the lectures and READ and you will do fine.
She is so unorganized. Horrible professor. You take a test and don't get it back weeks at a time. She doesn't even pass back the exam part of the exam just the scantron. If you don't read you won't pass. attendance is mandatory for clicker points
Understand that she expects you to read, what is the point in taking the class for an easy A if you do not attempt to understand. Do not expect to be spoon fed the answers. Her class is easy everything flows, just be sure to at least have an interest or develop one before you get lost in the beginning
Do not take Hamilton... Tests are impossible to pass. Does not help when you go to her office hours. very bland with her teaching, seems like she doesn't want the class to pass.
Not very interesting but if you do all the reading and show up to lecture it's pretty easy. She will answer questions during lecture and after class.
Taking this class with Dr. Hamilton was great! She gives out extra credit and gives hints for the tests. One negative thing I would say about her is that she isn't very organized. There are three exams and a final. Make sure to study!! Based on class size there may be 1 to 2 group presentations. Overall, I would recommend to take her class!
Dr. Hamilton is the nicest person. However, her preparation for the test arent too great you never know what to expect and you cant completely/fully study 6 Chapters for one test
Absolutely terrible professor. Attendance based off points for clicker questions, so go to class. She goes over material very fast. Does not help when you have questions. Lab is basically 3 hrs of hide and go seek in a cat's body. She does nothing but sit on her computer in lab. Doesn't review for exams or give a study guide.
I loved this professor! Her notes were a little fast, but as long as you didn't slack off, you'll keep up easy. She will answer any question you have and no she doesn't give study guides, but she will literally say, "Hey you should know this for the test!" Clicker questions are a bit difficult, but you can use your notes and your peers.
This professor is so hard! You literally have to go to class every single session or your grade will drop. Tests have barely anything to do with her lecture. You will get tested on 4 to 7 chapters at a time! Avoid her at all costs! If you choose to take a class with her... GOOD LUCK.
This class is challenging. Just study the lecture notes and the online homework that is assigned.
At first I thought this teacher was so nice and her class would be easy! But boy I was wrong! Once you get to the test... oh boy! She gives the littlest of information on a subject but then on the tests she asks you such in depth questions! I would NOT recommend her to anyone. I studied for days before tests and still ended with a B-
I knew this class would be difficult for me but I didn't think it would be this difficult. She expects you to know some Biology already or teaches the class as if everyone has the lab. I for one had no lab and no previous knowledge of Biology. Also if you don't study and pass the tests, you will fail! She's a nice teacher though and great person.
Hamilton was a great professor! Anatomy can be a difficult subject just because there is so much information, but she explains things well, and she is very helpful. Just be sure you go to class, and go to lab!
Great professor!! I was not looking forward to this class but she made this class simple. Her slideshows are straight to the point, she has good examples and is really nice. This class is what made me switch my major to bio.I would definitely recommend her. But to pass the class you will need to study, this isnt a class where you can just get by.
Been a Biology major, I was expecting this class to be easy. It's not she makes the quizzes, which in fact are the exams very hard. She doesn't keep a format for the exams. The lab is point less you don't do anything, it's base on two lab reports. She gives 6 quizzes a final, a presentation which is worth 50 points, and a final. I would not recomme
Dr. Hamilton is a very tough grader. In order to pass the class you have to read the book, attend every class because attendance is base of iclicker. She doesn't review or gives study guides for exams. During the lab you don't do anything, and she just sits on her computer.
Dr. Hamilton's class was extremely interesting. If you showed early she would give hints and exam questions before class. I took her lab class also, which was helpful because she would explain any questions more in-depth during extra lab time and tell you more about what would be on the exam. Definitely would take again.
I'm so greatful for Dr Hamilton. One of the best science professors i've had so far. She made this subject very easy to follow of course you still had to study to ace your exams. She didn't wander off into grey areas in the middle of lecture and was always on key topics. I would highly recommend her if you're serious and want a good grade.
She is the nicest lab professor! So sweet never ever had a problem with her. She literally goes out of her way to help you in anyway possible.
She is very nice but does not help when you have questions. Her lectures are so hard to focus on because they are very boring. And her tests are supposedly based off the notes but even after studying the notes religiously I only got 70s on most of my exams. I would not recommend taking her.
Every week is a 10 point quiz all u have to do is study for 30 minutes w/in that lab manual & your fine. Lecture about 20 minutes long or less. & the rest is Lab that sometimes take up to 30 minutes. Would recommend. Go to every class & you will get an A with the quiz scores & lab homework that she helps you with. gives xtra credit from lab quizzes
Toughest tests and too in depth. She expects you to be able to remember ever detail from the 5 chapters per test, and drops no hints as to what's on the tests(except which chapters). And it doesn't help not knowing your current grade before going into the final. Be prepared to study your butt off only to get disappointed at the end.
Read, do homework, practice quizlet (online test site with various questions that may show up on test) also modules on masteringbiology website very help for explaining concept with high efficiency. It basically test you and then explains the concepts from what questions you got wrong.
One of the best professors in the biology department, found her very interesting, funny, and knowledgeable in the subjects taught for the course. This is college, study hard and go in for help, shes always willing to help her students!
Hamilton will try to cram 6-7 ch's into 1 "quiz" (exam), but all case studies are m.c. & she'll never try to trick you, but be as thorough as possible for those short answers! She is extremely nice (brings us food) & helpful during office hours too. She gives iClicker q's, news report, & outside activities for extra credit, so take advantage!
Hamilton's Ecology lab is EXTREMELY laid-back and classes usually last about 1-2 hours. There are approximately 7 labs, which 2 scientific papers will be based on, and individual group projects toward the end of the semester, but, Hamilton is NOT a harsh grader. Overall, an easy lab and easy A!
Dr. Hamilton has to be hands down the best professor on the CSU Stan campus. Her tests are almost all based off of the lectures. And if you pay attention during her lectures she gives hints on exactly what will be on the tests. Highly recommend taking her class.
Dr. Hamilton is one of the better teachers I've had. (Had her for lecture & lab) Her lectures are easy to follow and she is extremely caring and will go out of her way for you to understand. Her tests are a bit tricky but if you study the material, it's very possible to get an A. At the end of the semester she even brought her dog to lab. Lol
Dr. Hamilton is a chill professor, she tells you EXACTLY what will be on the exams, If you pay attention and take notes, its hard to fail this class.
Nice professor. Focuses mostly on lecture, and notes must cover slides and what she says verbally. No hw and no quizzes. Participation is key;especially for clicker questions
The worst biology professor on campus. Doesn't care about her students, she doesn't help when you have questions. Don't take her, unless if you wanna fail. Her tests are difficult too.
Take her if you wanna retake the course.
Dr Hamilton always puts funny puns and jokes into her lectures. Her notes aren't very organized or straight forward so I recommend re-writing your notes so you can go through the complex topics. I always knew the topics but didn't do well on exams. I recommend referring to the focal questions posted on blackboard and see her for extra help.
Such an easy Professor!! No homework at all, just 5 exams. Exams are all based on the lecture notes. Didnt but a book and have got As on most of the exams. Would definitely take her again!
I had her for lab and liked her at first because she told us what to study for on the quizzes. She eventually stopped and the quizzes got harder. She is very petty when it comes to grading the lab reports, and is honestly a really rough grader. I would look for a different professor.
Least favorite bio professor. I learned nothing in her lab. I don't know anyone who passed her lab this past semester. I got a high F in her lab, and an A in my bio lecture. Such a waste of a semester in that lab. Take ANYONE but her. Wish I had known to avoid her :( hope this can help others not end up like myself and the most of my classmates.
Dr Hamilton, is an awesome professor. Attend all lectures, take detailed notes and memorize them. Ask her for help. She is very helpful and wants her students to succeed. Best professor hands down!!! No this is not an easy A by any means, but I dont know any gen bio class prof that makes it that.
I had Professor Hamilton for Biology 1050 Lab. She is amazing at explaining concepts and knows how to work well with students. She is by far my favorite professor I have had. She is super personable and sweet. If you're taking her for a lab, there's a quiz at the beginning of every class based on the week before.
Took Hamilton for general vertebrate zool with lab. She is super sweet and caring. She gives you everything you need to know for lab in handouts. You have to put in the work to memorize a lot of taxonomic groupings and their CORRECT spelling. I suggest using a white board to write names over and over. She gives quizzes but tells you whats on them.
Class banks way to much on test grades. To much information to learn in to little time for the test which causes the tests to be hard.
I took her BIO 1050 Lab and it was okay. I would recommend a different professor though. Dr. Hamilton always wanted to be efficient and get done with lab quick so she would sometimes vaguely go over lectures. Also, tuff that was on her quizzes were vaguely said in lecture so beware.
Took her for Environmental Bio and her tests are so hard. Not just saying that because I did not study but I studied my butt off for every test. There is stuff on the test that we never went over. She thinks we are all scientists like her and makes the test super hard. so freaking annoying.
I love her, during tests, she would bring her dogs with her as an stress reliever for her students which I always thought was very sweet. She's very nice and and her explanations are very good. she goes based off the book a lot and, and yes, her test are hard unless you study a lot.
4 exams, 1 final. No homework or quizzes. Loved talking to her about anything, an absolute sweetheart! Loved her lectures but the wording of her exams always made them more difficult. If you talk to her and go to office hours, she will help you out! Does not post slides. Clickerparticipation points. Reading the book will help you study!
Lets get this strait; her lectures are amazing and all you need. However, one bad test can bar you from an A because each of 4 exams is worth about 16% of your grade after lab is considered. No homework, but there are points you will miss if you skip class. If you keep perfect notes from her lectures you can get an A, but not everyone is that smart
She cares so much
Honestly hand down best bio teacher I have ever had! Her exams are only based off her lectures. So if you don't go to class you'll miss a lot. Her lectures are easy to understand, and if you have any questions she is always happy to answer them. She is so nice and always happy, Best professor at Stan!
This professor wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. She requires Iqlickers in which costs 16 bucks and will heavily affect your grade. The exams are proctored with cameras on and a lockdown browser. Her assignments are due before the end of class so if its late its a zero. Also the exams aren't like what she says itll be so watch out.
The worst teacher Ive ever had. Even with this pandemic going on she is not sympathetic over the fact and doesnt accept any late work even if its a MINUTE LATE for class work. Lectures are difficult to understand & exams are nothing like her lecture at all. No study guides and have to pay out of pocket for iclicker subscription. So inconvenient
Dr. Hamilton is an engaging, friendly, interested, and approachable Professor who very admirably endured the COVID-19 adjustments necessitated by the pandemic. Dr. Hamilton offered captivating lectures, particularly PRIOR to the calamity resulting from the protocols and technological hurdles accompanying the diminutive yet potent Coronavirus.
During each meeting, you were given one or two assignments that had to be done within the class period which gave you only 30 minutes and if you weren't finished it was an automatic zero. People would mention they were having issues with iclicker itself but she gave them zeros which also affected your grade quite a lot even if you missed one.
Professor Hamilton's class was not easy. I had to really study to keep an A for this class. She meets on Mondays does some clicker questions and gives you an assignment; seems easy except for the fact that the assignment is based on the current week's work, so you do the work/lectures a week ahead for the whole semester. Her tests are not too hard.
Professor Hamilton would tell us what to study for the exam but once it came to the exam there were hardly any questions about what she told us to study moreso towards the last exams. . She also doesn' accept late work. I don't really recommend her and I still took her class despite reading reviews since she was my only choice. Not the best.
Where do I even start. She was extremely rude when emailed with questions. she gives over 200 questions for homework. material is extremely difficult, if you have good memory you'll do ok. her practicals made no sense, if we got it right she would still mark it wrong, then had to go back and submit our corrections. do good on all HW. 2 practicals.
2 practicals, LOTS of hw. Hw would take a couple hours to complete. Do NOT miss any hw. We were so unprepared for the 1st practical having no explanation on what it'd be like. We also didn't get a code to limit terms for the program we used to study and spent countless hours memorizing 2k terms not tested on and fail. 2nd practical was way better
Tests take a huge part of your grades, the only reason I didn't pass. You have to buy too many things for the course such as iclicker and the book. Every lecture you will have iclicker questions and then will be put into breakout rooms to do a quiz.
I took this course during the summer, which I admit is rigorous considering all the information. However, spending hours on homework that would range from 100-200 questions to only get 5 points was not worth it. Also the Iclicker grades during zooms were more points than homework assignments. Very vague about what exams consist of. Very difficult.
First of all, her classes are hard. She proctors exams heavily. I made the mistake of slacking off and then cramming for tests and it didn't work because it's a lot of information to cram. I love this professor. She wants us to learn. She is compassionate and she cares about her students and their success, but as I said, her classes are hard.
So many mini quizzes, although they prepared us well for lab practicals. There were 3 lab exams, 3 lecture exams, and 1 cumulative final, all proctored via respondus. Answers were fill-in blanks and essays, no multiple-choice or matching, and spellings matter, even for the taxonomic names. Average for the exams were mostly below 70%.
Professor Hamilton is really tough. I personally wish that she would have been a little more caring with this whole pandemic thing going on. Usually she posts 2 lectures weekly that are about 1 to 2 hours long. Weekly class log on, with group assignments, I clicker. Overall, lecture heavy, make a group chat with peers.
The course in general is relatively easy compared to other Upper Biol electives, perhaps even easier than the gen biols. However, Dr. Hamilton was unnecessarily strict with exams. At least she was lenient with due dates, and the final was optional if you did well in the other quizzes.
Dr. Hamilton is incredibly caring! Her lectures can be intimidating, but there was absolutely nothing on the test that was not in the lectures. As long as you thoroughly listen to the lectures on VoiceThread (this is important - you can't just print the slides, she gives answers in the lecture), you'll be totally fine! Just show up and participate!
The professor made the class way harder than it should have been. We had smart-books that would ask you questions and many of these assignments would be 200-300 questions and would take 3-5 hours to complete..For what? Also when dissecting an cat for example professor would just upload images she had from previous years and would not help one bit.
SEEMS easy going but the exams take a huge part of your grades. The only reason I didn't pass, after hours of studying and SI sessions. You have to buy an iclicker course online and the book. Her exams are nothing like the lecture slides that she has been using for years.
Don't even think about breathing or looking the wrong way during an exam she will think your cheating even tho the person next to you has a different test. PLEASE FIND A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR, SHE WILL MAKE YOU RETHINK YOUR ENTIRE CAREER! You have to buy an iclicker course online and the book. Exams & attendance seem like the only things graded.
If you are considering this teacher, just know that she would not curve a test with an average of 50%. She would prefer the majority of the class fail than change her grading system. You will need to be self-learning and a good studier to have a chance at the exams. If you have to take her, go to SI and thank me later.
Every single person I spoke to in this class had failed her exams and the exams are the only thing in the grade book. For a general bio class...it's cutthroat to say the least. I would not recommend this teacher with everything in me and save yourself.
Okay, so I really wish she gave out study guides it would help out a lot, I know it very lecture heavy therefore its a very difficult class, a lot of homework is given. My tip would be to study from the textbook.
Do not waste your time, pick someone else. Your grade relies on 4 exams 1 optional final. No worksheets, no homework. You use clicker questions and that is how your attendance gets counted. Felt like I had to teach myself in this class.
I do not recommend this professor to anyone please take the advice and save yourself.
Professor Hamilton is charismatic and very helpful. Lecture material explains concepts clearly and descriptively. If you ever find yourself having more questions, consult the textbook, outside resources, or ask her personally in person or through E-mail. The class had a moderate-to-high level of difficulty and homework and quizzes were manageable.
This was a very hard bio class for me. Her tests were only about what she would talk about in class so attendance is not mandatory but it is if you want to pass. I barely passed with a B and went to mostly every SI tutor along with maybe missing class twice. Very high maintenance class but it is do-able.
She doesn't explain anything. She doesn't personally answer questions, she'll just tell you to refer to your lab manual. Her homework assignments range from anywhere between 2-5 hours to complete. She completely rushes her class. I can go on and on. Worst professor ever. I wouldn't take another class with her if she was the last professor on earth
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Awful person, awful lectures, awful tests. You will regret going to her class everyday, BUT you must because attendance is graded AND you only get full credit if you answer the attendance questions correctly. She doesnt know how to use tech, doesnt help answer questions, and blames you for not studying enough.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She does not care about her students and her exams are hard. I would study hours on end everyday and she does not grade on a curve, even if the mean is super low. Attendance is mandatory as we do participation questions. If you do not answer those correctly, you do not get full points.
I DO NOT recommend taking this professor. She takes forever to grade and there is nothing you can do to fix your grade because she doesn't finalize or add grades until the day they are due. Question wording is extremely confusing. Your grade is based on 4 exams, about 3 in class assignments out of 10 points, and iclicker questions. So much wrong.
Only passed by the absolute skin of my teeth. Borderline impossible class. Speeds through incredibly heavy lectures with no time for notes or time to process, dumps questions irrelevant to the study material on tests. Must rent an iClicker for points in pop quizzes in class, with no sympathy for if the iClicker does not work. HORRIBLE.
The class was a bit difficult, extremely fast paced but Hamilton was a very kind professor, be sure to ask for questions or help when confused and attend class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, if it is filled up wait to take it for next semester or you WILL regret it. Wait, getting a C or not passing the class is not worth it.
Don't even bother.
Way too strict on exams. Won't even curve if an entire class failed.
The class itself was easy, homework was not hard at all. But if you are like me and can't grasp science, this class is hard. This is the first C I have ever gotten in my life and I literally couldn't pass the tests even with studying. The test section outweighs the homework section by about 200 points so it's hard to keep a good grade. Wouldnt take
This professor seems to have a nice personality but I feel like teaching is not something she is good at. I feel like throughout lab I did not know what to do because we were only told to follow the manuel which was not helpful. It was just a bunch of informationa and you had to figure everything out alone. Not only that she seem to have favorites.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The exams are very different and she will not crave grades. There are iclicker questions during some lectures and if you don't attend lectures you will lose those points. Save yourself and find a different professor!
There are lab quizzes after every lab. Please study your lab manual beforehand because if you ask her a question she will tell you to read your lab manual, but if the manual doesn't answer your question she will vaguely answer your question.
After taking multiple other professors at Stan, I can say with confidence that this professor is not as bad as people make her seem. As long as you pay attention in lecture, show up, and review the material once or twice, you'll be fine. Besides going to SI occasionally I put almost no effort into this class and did okay. You'll be fine too.
-the lectures were very out of place and just didn't contribute to my learning. I regret taking this class so much.
