She cares about her students as if they were own. She has excellent office hours and is very accessible. Excellent Professor. She Rocks!!!
Great teacher. She's also a professor for the class during summer term. Really knows her stuff and discussion time became valuable. She was patient and provided in-depth answers to any question raised. Has kids and knows how it is, very understanding about homework assignments and conflicts. Made discussion less of a drag. Get Laury if you can!
She is a great scientist and a great professor. She has relatively difficult exams but she has good teaching skills, so even the hardest aspect of lecture can be clarified in some manner by her. She is also beautiful. And a great asset to the university
Laury was my discussion leader and she is absolutely amazing. Listen to what she has to say because she know's her stuff and really cares about her students. I wish I took this course during the summer semester because that is when she teaches the actual course. Probably one of the best biology professors at UM. Take her!
The best professor I have had so far at UofM. I found her lectures to be very clear, and easily understood. Exams were spot on with what was covered during lectures. Beyond that her lectures were highly organized, and she does not hesitate to help students. She goes above and beyond to make sure students comprehend. 100% recommend!
Dr. Wood is fantastic! Clear, organized, and extremely willing to help. Best experience I've had in a science class at U of M.
Dr. Wood is the best professor I have ever had! Lectures were clear and informative. What I most appreciated was her incorporation of interesting sidelines and her brilliant sense of humor. I finally felt like an individual in a class at a large university because of Dr. Wood and her keen interest in her student's welfare. She's fantastic!
Professor Wood is awesome! Her level of expectation is high but her care and concern for your success is evident, which makes you strive to do your best. Prof. Wood taught me how to apply my knowledge rather than regurgitate like in high school. She is amazing!
Prof. Wood rocks! She expects a lot from you and is very detailed in lectures but you learn so much-and her analogies really help you grasp the material. Exams are tough but fair and you definitely learn from them. I highly recommend waiting to take this course in summer when Prof Wood is teaching!
I cannot say enough positive words about Prof. Wood. I felt that this was my most positive class taken here at the U because she truly cares about her students and goes out of her way to help you understand the material and succeed. Prof. Wood is the reason I am majoring in biology.
The best professor you could have for a biology course. She is very detail oriented, and expects the best out of all her students. Her exams are not easy, but she will make sure you are ready for them.
Professor Wood is amazing! She started the semester off by stating that she wants everyone to get at least a B. She is not out of fail you. She cares about the details, but if you apply yourself, you will do well. If you need help, she is very flexible and will give you her attention. She also writes EXCELLENT letters of recommendation.
Best teacher ive had. she honestly cares about your education and it pays off to take this class with her. I worked smarter not harder. BIO 172 is all about small details and they barely touch on them in lecture. Laury went more in depth in her lecture and discussion. Another plus is you have her as the lecturer and discussion leader.
One of the best professors I've had at Michigan so far! Definitely take Bio 172 with her! Laury is an amazing person and teacher; she truly wants her students to succeed! Getting an A in this class is very possible as long as you put in the time to study and look over the lecture slides.
Prof. Wood is by far the best prof I've had at the University and I am a senior taking a biology course for the first time, so I'm not a newbie. I decided that I wanted to take a biology course before I left the U. If I had taken this course with Prof Wood earlier, I would have majored in Biology. She is amazing and truly cares in every way.
ONLY ONE CON: exams are harder than fall/winter. So ask for more practice exams made by HER. For example, she made multiple choices about photosynthesis like: what would happen if you suddenly stop providing water to a plant? In fall they usually make questions like: what loses electon in light reaction? Far more straightforward than her question.
I chose to take Bio. 172 with Prof. Wood during the summer upon recommendation, and I am so glad I did! Prof. Wood is fantastic! What I mean by that is she sincerely wants you to do well-and she makes that obvious. Her lectures are clear and her enthusiasm and zest for life are infectious! She made me feel like an individual, she sincerely cared!
She is such a kind person! She really wants to help people do well. The exam averages in her class were never great but in my opinion, if you memorize everything on the slides you should be good to go. There is a lot of information though, which makes it hard to do well unless you put a lot of time in. She gave us candy before exams which was nice.
Professor Laury is so personable! She takes the time to get to know all her students by name. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone is understanding the material, and has no problems answering questions in class unlike some professors who clearly get irritated. She makes me want to major in Biology! 1010 would recommend to a friend.
Prof Wood is among the FEW professors here who truly care to get to know their students as individuals. Don't be fooled, though, her tests are made to make you think. That being said, she is your best resource for help! I wish I would've went to her for help sooner, but it was comforting to know she wanted me to succeed as much as I wanted to.
the most helpful professor ive ever met. wants students to succeed in life.
Prof. Wood is the reason I am intending on majoring in biology. She is so enthusiastic and so there for you every step of the way. I will say that if you simply memorize the material, you will not reach the max in this class. Thank you prof Wood for an amazing semester!!!
Professor Wood made me work every step of the way. What I appreciated was that she did not let up when I was struggling She actually called me on my slacking and made it impossible to ignore what I needed to do. As a consequence, I ended up doing relatively well in the course and actually have changed my major from psychology to biology.
I really liked Laury Wood as a professor but she is very knowledgeable of the subject so sometimes you have to ask her to slow down to better explain what she's teaching. If you do ask her for help, she is very helpful & will explain it in a way that makes sense.
She is, without a doubt, one of the nicest and best professors that I have ever encountered at this university. I highly recommend taking her section, especially if you are a CSP student. Coming out of this class I have not only learned a lot about Biology, but I also have found a good friend in Professor Wood.
Avoid taking Dr. Wood as your lecturer and exam maker like the plague! Her exams are much harder than other professors who teach the course. If you choose to take the class, memorize her Bluereview and take it as your only class. You also should read before going to lecture if you have time. Get as many practice exams created by her as possible.
Took her for 172 in the summer. She explains concepts well. Clearly wants her students to succeed, and patiently explains concepts till students get them. Tests are difficult and they require an eye for detail, but are still fair. Some of the slides honestly weren't very good, but she explained things well anyway. Very nice too.
Professor Wood's class, which I took during this past summer term, was probably the best biology class I have ever had, and compared to Bio 171 and those professors, she was way better than any of them. She was clear and explicit in what the tests would be from, she explained everything to such great detail in lectures, and had great office hours.
Bio 172 is so hard and very tricky. Go to as many office hours as you can and Laury will make sure that you get out of there with the best information and knowledge of what to expect. I'm not good at Biology and loved how helpful she was. Bio 172 is very tough so make sure you get her and go to office hours!
Laury is a really, really nice lady. Nicest professor I have had here by far. She is so down to earth unlike so many of the professors here. So easy to talk to and her explanations are really clear. This is a hard class, but if you put in the time to learn the material it will actually pay off.
Laury is the best professor I've had so far at U of M. Her explanations of the material taught in Bio 172 is unparalleled. She truly wants all of her students to succeed, and thus, she is willing to put in the time and effort to make sure they all understand the intricate concepts of Bio 172. I definitely recommend her for Bio 172.
I am choosing to post mid semester to encourage anybody taking Bio. 172 to take it with Prof. Wood. She has so inspired me to be not only my academic, but my personal best. She is so down to earth, with such a great sense of humor-she sincerely cared that I learned biology. I am declaring MCDB major today. Thanks Prof Wood!
Laury is a great professor. The extra class time is really helpful. Exams are pretty hard but if you study, you should do fine. Take advantage of office hours, especially during exam time. Lectures are posted online.
Professor Wood was not only my teacher, but my friend. Her door was always open, and I felt like she really cared about me as a person and she helped tremendously with my career goals. Not only is she caring, she always was able to make me laugh-and that is a gift. Thank you so much Prof. Wood-you made the U so much friendlier.
Laury was an amazing professor and a kind friend. The tests can be difficult but do whatever you have to do to take it with Laury. She was the absolute best! A true inspiration!
I took this course as a post bac during spring semester. Prof. Wood was fantastic! Not only did she clarify concepts, you could see she loves teaching and she is truly invested in your success. She was accessible and has a great sense of humor. I went to office hours to discuss biology, and my career goals, and I felt comfortable doing both!
I had Dr. Wood last fall semester and really miss her caring and sense of humor this semester. She was fantastic as both a professor and a person. She was invested in our success. I often went to office hours just to talk, not even about biology! Take this class with her if you can-she makes learning fun!
Laury is an amazing professor and an ever more amazing person. She is great at explaining difficult concepts in a straightforward, engaging, and funny way. Laury is clear about what is on the exams and really cares about her students understanding the material. This is apparent in her office hours which are awesome. I cannot recommend her enough!
Very patient as long as you have questions, she will explain until you understand
Laury is an amazing educator and an amazing person. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to learn and do well. You do not need the textbook for this class.
Laury is phenomenal! She truly wants each of her students to do well, no matter the circumstance. She is very accessible as she holds office hours daily. The class is pretty exam-heavy as there are 4 exams. She would also bring us cookies in discussion. If she taught another class, I would take it just to have her as my professor.
Laury is a great lecturer. By nature, 172 exams tend to be difficult, but she generally teaches very thoroughly. If you have to take 172 and you can get into her CSP section, I would definitely recommend it.
Easily one of the best professors at this school! She is an incredible teacher and super nice. She always tries to help to her best ability and you should go to office hours.
Laury Wood is the most wonderful professor I have had so far. She is ready and knows the material very well. She is also an amazing person to talk to. If you have a chance to take any class she teaches, I would recommend it hands down. But don't memorize in her class.
Laury is an amazing professor. The course is challenging, however there are so many resources. I recommend utilizing her office hours as much as you can because she is amazing at explaining tough concepts that you may have been confused on in lecture and just not procrastinating studying for the exams.
Dr. Wood inspired me to be my personal best. I struggled in this class, big time. Dr. Wood was there every step of the way to test me, and make sure I understood the material, from a conceptual point of view. She was not only my mentor, but my friend. Should I get into medical school, it was all due to her inspiration. She is also so funny!
Take CSP Bio 172 with Laury if you can. Laury was an amazing teacher and had office hours everyday to help students. Truly wants her students to succeed. She's also really funny if you get to know her. Loved learning and spending time with her. Work hard and use her office hours and you should be fine.
Her lectures make the material very comprehensible and clear so as long as you attend the lectures you won't need to read the textbook. She is also very accessible outside of class.
Laury was an amazing professor and lovely lady... The class was incredibly challenging for me but she is there to help you along the way. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!
Doesn't seem to care if you are falling behind. As a CSP professor, she could do better to encourage those struggling more than others. This class definitely takes a lot of effort. Know the material through and through.
Laury is the best prof I've ever had the university. Not only is she patient, but she is genuinely invested in your success. She is a mentor and a friend and always goes the extra mile to make sure you have a good understanding of the material.
Laury is arguably the best prof at Michigan. She is so passionate about what she teaches and she knows what shes taking about. The course is hard, expect to put in a lot of work! GO TO OFFICE HOURS! She will help you succeed in any way she can. I failed the first exam and with her help ended with a B+ in the class. Shes's the GOAT
Laury was an AMAZING professor! She supported me every step of the way by answering questions in class, being patient with me in office hours, and being a supporter in the most difficult class I've ever taken so far. Laury also made sure everyone was on the same page for material. If you ever have to take 172, take it with Laury! Thank you Laury!!!
ICON! It's a hard class, but she tries her best for it not to be! Just listen to her lecture recordings (or go to lecture) and you will do amazing! I got an A on every exam besides #2, but that's just because I hate Photosynthesis/Cell Respiration. She is so helpful in class and office hours! Laury has mastered BIOLOGY 172! TAKE HER IF POSSIBLE!!!
Laury is the best professor I have had! I cannot speak highly enough about her teaching style. She cares immensely about success of her students. She makes it known from the beginning that Bio172 is not an easy course, but she provides all the tools and support you need to succeed. Laury so positive, its contagious and a mood booster. The best!
Laury Wood is truly amazing. She holds office hours every day of the lectures and explains info thoroughly. This course is definitely hard and dense, but going to her office hours really helped. Her lectures are really clear, she never tests you on something she doesn't teach. She is amazing. She really cares about each student. She is AMAZING.
Dr. Wood was by far the best prof. I've had in my college experience. I am a Medprep student-returning to college, and she made it the most enjoyable, informative experience ever. More than lectures being great-Dr. Wood honestly cares about you. She took the time to get to know me, even during Covid-where the best we could do was virtual!
The best professor I have had at umich thus far. the level of depth she explains things is phenomenal and It is explained so well that you feel like you have an actual understanding not just a memorized understanding. But her exams were really difficult but she offers a lot of help. I wish she taught more courses
I took Dr. Laury during a Covid semester, where it was more or less an online course. Dr. Laury went out of her way to connect, and make this feel as much like a "real UM" course as possible. She is caring, dedicated, and never stopped reaching out to us-as if she was a student herself. I have never (and I'm a junior) had a more invested prof!
One of the best professors I've had so far. Dr. Wood is really nice and is always willing to help. She is very flexible with her time and is willing to make appointments outside of her schedule to help you.
Prof. Laury is a phenomenal professor. Very knowledgeable about the subject and always willing to help students. I recommend attending R&R and discussion synchronously with remote learning. A lot of the material on the exams can be found on lecture slides, I did not need the book. Exams are difficult and non-definition based, but definitely doable.
I took Dr. Wood's course during Covid-19. I cannot express how grateful I am to Dr. Wood for her inspiration to stay positive, for her compassion all the way, and for her most excellent instruction. She taught me that I will achieve success, no matter the path I choose, and exposed me to careers other than medicine. Love you Laury!
She is the best professor ever. She cares about her students, and always there to help. Definitely listen carefully to her lectures because she mentions everything you need to know for the exam. Definitely use problem roulette, and go to her R&R and Discussions. I took this class online, but still managed to succeed.
Laury is a real gem! She's so kind and accommodating. She does have to follow the main section since she is a CSP instructor, but she makes sure to supplement the main stuff with additional info. She's definitely a top option and I couldn't recommend her enough especially if you are new to biology.
Laury is phenomenal. She LIVES AND BREATHES the material and it is so refreshing to have a professor - mind you, in the virtual world - to be so passionate about their students and the material. I would recommend her to ANYONE taking Bio 172 - it's a really, really difficult class - but Laury is there every step of the way.
Even though it was such a difficult semester to teach online Laury was always there supporting her students with extra help. She really cares about her students!
Laury was an AMAZING professor! If you have to take BIO 172, take it with her! She held office hours everyday and was always available. She was always open to answering questions and she made me really love and understand the material. I wish I could take more classes with her. If you take the class with her, you will not regret it!
Bio is a hard class no matter what prof you take, but Laury is the absolute best!! Super kind if you participate, tries (and succeeds) to learn everyone's name. Really accommodating if you just communicate with her. Would 110% take classes from her again.
Laury was great at explaining and simplifying tough concepts. She was very accessible outside of class and she really wants her students to succeed. As a professor, she is very motherly, caring, and understanding. If you have the chance, you should visit her in office hours. Visiting her in office hours made the course more manageable for me.
Laury made bio172 doable in every way. Her lectures are packed with info, and slides are key to the success. Discussions are also very helpful. Problem roulette and practice questions should be mastered as well. Make sure to take note of details in slides. Book wasnt necessary but I found it helpful. Take this course with Laury if you need it.
Laury is honestly one of the best lecturers I have had during my time at Michigan! She is always willing to meet with students outside of class to help them out and consistently motivates and encourages us. She really cares about her students and it shows!
Prof Wood was by far the best STEM prof I've had at the UM, and I am a junior. She so cares about her students and is very accessible both during and outside of class. Prof Wood genuinely cares about her students. Even though I didn't do as well in the course as I would have liked, Prof Wood provided me with the tools for success moving forward.
I didn't take Bio 172 this past term, but I'm just coming back here to say as a rising senior* that Laury is seriously the best STEM lecturer I have ever experienced here at U-M. She is seriously the best. I can't recommend her enough to people. Have gotten several CSP folks to take her section and they loved her! Love you, Laury!
Professor Laury is the greatest professor I have ever had at the University of Michigan. She was very knowledgable, had amazing lectures, and was very accessible outside the class in office hours if you had trouble understanding the content. 10/10 wish she taught other science courses
She was extremely fun to work with and is such a sweet person. She was always there to help during her R&Rs (also brought snacks every Tuesday :)) Was an amazing professor!
Laury was AMAZING! If you have the opportunity, take this class with her! BIO172 is not the easiest class, but she makes it very doable, and she is the reason I did well. You don't need a textbook. Just go to lecture and office hours, and she is the most helpful professor imaginable. I cannot recommend her enough!
You'll love Laury. I'm serious-- she's an amazing professor who knows how to explain complex topics perfectly and clear up any confusion, she's never discouraging, and she cares about her students! She brought snacks for almost every discussion. I only regret not going to her office hours more lol
Professor Laury Wood was an amazing professor
Laury is so so sweet, such a good STEM prof. She really cares about you learning the material and succeeding. Very clear explanations, no complaints about her. She knows her stuff that's for sure
Laury is so so sweet. No complaints with her, she really knows her stuff. She cares about you actually learning the material and succeeding. Very good STEM prof, she explains things very clearly. If you can take 172 with her, I absolutely would. The class itself is pretty hard but she made it much better
Laury is a super nice professor. Lecture could be a bit boring, but to me it's the material, not her. Her exams are very diffiult, but she makes up for it with the curve. Problem Roulette will be your savior in this class, and as long as you don't procrastinate too much, you'll be fine.
Extremely caring & nice. Wish I had done more problem roulette, as questions are very similar to exam questions or even copies of it.
Laury was so amazing and explained concepts so well. She was so accessible outside of class. It's definitely not the easiest class you'll take at UofM but it's definitely not hard by any means. She makes the class very doable and prepares you well for the exam. Just pay attention in class! Get to know her too:) She's great
Love Prof. Wood so much, she gave us a lot of resources and often told us what exactly we needed to know for exams and what was not needed. Also super easy to contact and never made any question seem too small to answer!!
Prof Wood is an amazing and kind person who is always willing to help. This class involves a lot of memorization. Complete all the problem roulette questions and every practice problem you have the chance to do. I took this class in the summer semester, which was a lot but pretty doable.
Laury was a great lecturer, she was compassionate and took the time to teach difficult concepts.
