Very organized (hands out lecture notes) and has a good understanding of statistics. He also teaches epidemiology that I've heard is excellent.

he's a great prof, he know's what he's teaching and he makes it so you can understand. You can not cheat in his class it's but you will pass as long as you know everything on his study guide. Take his you'll love his class

Great professor. He teaches really well and is very hepful. He makes the class fun; very funny man. Not an easy professor though, but you can pass if you study EVERYTHING in his lecture notes. I highly recommend him. Best professory I've ever had.

He has handouts and homework everyweek. Study his handouts and do the homework, you will get a good grade. Do read the text even you don't need it for the test. He is very patient with students, extremely organized. All the professors hould be like him.

i had Dr Chu for Biostats and Epidemilogy. He's the best instructor in CSUN and is very fair. It's very difficult not to pass his classes. I wish he taught all the classes i need for my major. i got an A in both Epi and Biostats.

This class was very interesting and the professor is a great teacher and really cares if we are learning the material. The tests are straightforwad-no tricks or strange questions. I learned a lot and am glad I took the class! A great professor and person.

He is the best! I hate Math but he is a wonderful professor, never miss class, it's open notes/books so be sure you're in class. He is sooo funny.

Awesome professor!!! He's a pretty funny guy which makes the class very enjoyable. Whatever he goes over in lecture is available for print off his website. Just add the little extra info he talks about in class and you're good to go. His tests are not hard if you take the time to study.

Dr. Chu is one of the best instructor I've ever had. He is very helpful, prepared, and knowledgeable. His teaching is well understood. I recommend anyone to take him.

Dr. Chu is a great professor! He provides the class with good notes that are easily accessible online, and he explains them in detail during lectures. Has a pretty good sense of humor, so the class isn't completely dull. Exams are short answer and true false, but if you pay attention in class and do a bit of studying, the exams aren't hard at all.

Epi has been one of my favorite classes thx to Dr. Chu. He is such a phenom professor! His lectures are very interesting & insightful. Offers a study guide prior to an exam. His exams are pretty straight forward as it is based on his lecture notes. There's one group presentation so make to have dedicated people in your group. Most highly recommend!

dr chu is freakin awesome! im so glad i took him. hes so hilarious, u spend most of the class laughing at his jokes. he makes biostats fun. his teaching method is really easy and all his tests are open book and notes. no reason not to get an A. I learned a lot too!

Professor Chu is a great lecturer. Take this class if you like learning. The homework and tests are pretty simple, usually from the lecture. Ask him to provide the powerpoint, it's a BIG help. He's witty and makes the things you learn interesting. Only read the text when he says he's skipping the material. STUDY for the A.

Take him for Biostatistics. He is an amazing professor and person. You will learn a lot in this class. I began this class with fear but his teaching style is so clear that you learn really quickly.3 tests, 10 hmwk assignments from book. The tests are open note open book but he provides all of the notes online ahead of class. Study and youll do well

Dr. Chu is GREAT! He really wants you to learn about Stats! There are 3 exams (multiple choice & calculation problems)and 12 homework assignments. It's kind of hard to see him during his office hours since he is an advisor but he will make time to make sure you understand. Make sure you read the textbook. TAKE HIM! He's really good!

Prof Chu - is an awesome professor! I had no interest in taking BioStats, but he made the class very interesting and joyful. He made my day when he came in dress as a NCU b-ball player for Halloween. I loved his class and highly recommend him. :)

I hated probability before I took this class and now after I took this class I love it. That's how a good professor makes a difference in your life. Dr.Chu is "great".

This professor is hilarious! He uses real life examples in order to show you how to apply statistics (and how it's used) in life.. He goes over every detail to help the students understand it, which makes it an easy math course.. He's a big fan of the North Carolina men's basketball team, so his extra credit assignments are based on them.

Dr. Chu is an awesome professor and an awesome counselor. I highly recommend his classes to anyone. Especially, if you are looking for a teacher who is clear, helpful, and funny!I have always sucked at math, but he made statistics interesting and because of that I received a B+ in his course! :)

Dr. Chu is amazing at what he does. Most people are intimidated just hearing Bio-Stats, let me tell you, no need to panic! I promise, i am not the best at math, but he has a way of breaking it down, and making it ''Make sense." If you have to take it, take Dr. Chu. He's not rated "HOTNESS," just for his looks ;) This man is Great at what he does.

Professor Chu is amazing. I was nervous to take biostats but he is great at teaching the subject and is always available to help his students. His tests are easy if you study and take excellent notes, dont take his policies for granted because eventhough exams are open note you cant rely solely on notes you take. I love Prof. Chu, he is clear in his lectures and doesn't make biostats complicated it also helps that hes funny, which helps during morning classes. I really am glad I took him, its awesome when you get good teachers for hard subjects, I will def. try to take again!! Recommend!!!

If you show up to class and take good notes and understand the steps of the problems, there is no reason why you shouldn't get an A!! Dr. Chu is by far one of the best professors in the Public Health Department. TAKE HIM. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. He is an easy grader. There's homework due every weekend (he does look at answers). He lets you have a cheat sheet (index card) for exams. Dr. Chu ties in real life issues to the material. He's phenomenal. CSUN is lucky to have him.

Only used the textbook for one or two assignments. HW every week. AMAZING lectures, Dr. Chu is so awesome! He's funny and makes the material fun and easy to learn. Lectures are up on moodle. 2 midterms 1 final. Don't skip class, there is no way you'll pass if you do. Study his slides for the tests and you'll be fine. Allows one index card for tests

Doctor Chu was simply amazing. This is the only class I looked forward to attending every class period. I think I would had gotten an A if I had studied for the first exam harder because the exams are straight from the power point slides. He gives students all the tools to suceed in this class. I loved him plus he is super funny

Dr. Chu is an excellent professor. He is not easy but does not have to be because he lectures well. Stays on topic and covers everything pertinent to classwork and homework. I had him for epidemiology and hope to have him for Biostats. I recommend him for epi because his teaching style is understandable and certainly not boring.

Makes biostats really easy to understand. Ask questions when you don't know the answers. Study groups are the best for this particular class since the exams are pretty similar to the notes. Open notes (literally, whole notebook). Make a cheat sheet and you'll pass. (Also, do your research on UNC to get on his good side!!!)

GREATEST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME. Great guy, very nice and caring! 3 test and you they are all open notes! But do study and pay attention, if you don't you'll fail. The second midterm is super hard, even though it is open notes study hard! Great overall I would 100% take any one of his classes, he teaches well and the class is entertaining.

Dr Chu's was already my favorite class pre covid and after we went online, he was mindful of how difficult life now was for everyone. Dr Chu's a good person and a great prof. Quizzes are open book. Borrow the text from the internet. It's there. Try to take good notes and you'll get an A. Tests are a little tough, so those notes will be clutch.

Took him during the quarantine and his lectures break down everything well. Math is NOT my favorite subject and I have a hard time with it but Prof. Chu is able to simplify things to the point a dunce like me can understand. His lectures go into a lot of detail (sometimes unnecessary) and he sometimes makes small jokes. Also a charismatic speaker!

He post lectures and then you do the homework. Considering I hated taking stats, I was worried about taking this course but I really liked this course! This professor made stats really easy to understand. Quizzes every week, but it has no time limit and usually have a week to finish it. 2 midterms and 1 final.

He is a great professor, lectures were uploaded on YouTube and he did a great job at covering everything. I don't usually like math, but the material in this course was sometimes fun and mostly easy to understand. I definitely recommend taking biostatistics with him!

Dr. Chu was one of my favorite professors during this online semester (Fall 2020) He is super funny and nice! He makes learning about epidemiology interesting and fun! Attendance is not graded, however attending class and taking notes will help you on homework assignments and exams! You can earn an A, but you have to be willing to put in the work.

Dr. Lawrence Chu made biostatistics as easy to comprehend as possible. His lectures were very helpful and he would only quiz or test you on material learned in his lectures and what was written on his lecture notes. The textbook would go more into depth on what he was teaching. I highly recommend taking this class.

Such an amazing professor! His attendance wasn't mandatory but I liked him so much that I loved going to every class (which is rare). He remember every single student and engages with everyone. His class is challenging but if you pay attention to his lectures then you should be good.

Easiest class I've ever taken. Open notes made it impossible not to get an A. Dr. Chu was very helpful but not theoretical enough for my liking. Many are getting on him for his AI enforcement. While I can't relate, I understand where he is coming from, esp. with the prevalence of ChatGPT usage. Show your work, don't cheat, and you'll be fine.

He lays out his course work very clearly, each week is structured to focus on a single statistics subject. If you watch his lecture videos then the homework assignments will literally be a breeze. Homework's and exams can be time consuming because you have to show all your work but it's easy to exceed in this class if you put effort on assignments

Personally, I never got accused of cheating or anything like that. He was strict about the cheating aspect and making sure there is no academic dishonesty alot after the first test, but that's because he caught people cheating. I liked the way the class was organized, and I found his lectures helpful. Overall, I thought the class was good.

Clearly the people complaining actively cheated or did not bother learning how to properly frame research questions and include the relevant statistical measures. This class is a joke compared to a normal university course: the difference is night and day. Open notes and calculator usage and you still fail? Have some accountability. Get help.

Dr. Chu is one of the best professors at CSUN. He is really fun and gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed. The grade is split evenly four ways from hw, the 1st midterm, the 2nd midterm, and the final. The exams are open notes, so as long as you know how to do the work quickly, you'll be fine. He gives 1-2 hrs of hw a week. Just don't use AI.
