powerpoint notes were very cluttered and hard to read, but they were on blackboard (not as much of a problem). his lectures were very interesting, and almost all of the questions on his tests were on the practice tests. even though it was his first semester teaching, he did a great job! =]
This guy's ridiculous. I haven't learned a single damn thing in his class. All he does is give out powerpoint presentations and just reads them off. You'll be better off not showing up in his lectures and just reading off the book/powerpoint presentations he gives out online.
He's alright. Nothing spectacular, but he does try to be helpful and his sample questions before the tests really helped.
GREAT PERSON, not so great prof. too much power point. great class to take a nap in =).. learn it on ur own

Very nice Guy, but as already said, not a great professor. Reads off his LONG powerpoint lectures, very boring, and overall not helpful at all. Coming to class was useless.
He was assistant professor to Prof. Albright. If it wasn't for attendance, it was basically pointless to show up to his lecture. Reads directly off Powerpoint which he posts on Bb. Will get very boring at times, but he does come up with some corny jokes to get a laugh out of the class. He's alright, if you can't stand him, just go to sleep.
He does seem to mean well...but class is over-all pointless. He doesnt say much that isnt already on the powerpoint slides you can access on Blackboard. Most of the test questions are in the review list of questions, so you dont need to take notes or pay attention. He is a nice guy though.
He was a very boring professor. He assisted professor Albright and I dreaded the days that he taught. He read right off of powerpoint and later posted it on blackboard. I felt like being in class was pointless. He tried really hard to keep us entertained but no matter wat we werent interested. He meant well, but hes not meant to be a teacher.
He is pointless to listen to in class, as everything is on blackboard, but he puts in a lottt of time to help you study with study guides and all info that is important, you might not realize it but hes a tremendous help to prof albright, its pointless and boring to be in his class, the T.A.'s dont mind if u go to sleep, just dont talk and ur good
He is very considerate that we are taking other classes. He is funny and charming. You will not be bored in his class. He can get lost during lectures. Bottom line- He posts sample ques. on BB which are VERY helpful and he is a cool dude!
He is a great teacher, however he just cant seem to slow down sometimes however he will post all the notes on Bb. I think that without his review questions very few people will pass the class. He is funny. In conclusion he is a good teacher, he tries hard to help and he deserves some credit. And I think he should have been a comedian!!!!lol
his powerpoints may be long (they are all on blackboard) and at times can be dry in his lectures, but the projects are very creative and interesting... created a sense of camaraderie in the class... very understanding and lenient =)
very enthusiastic and funny professor. cares a lot about students, and puts all lectures on blackboard, as well as study questions that will likely appear on the test. as long as you study the study questions a few days before the test, no reason to not get an A.
He has a lot of passion for the subject. He's very considerate and really wants you to learn. You cna learn a lot from him. He also tries to help you get a good grade. He gave extra credit and a lot of test questions that really helped on the exams. He's cool.

In my opinion this class was a waste of money. We barely ever talked about the subject. The professor did not teach us, he just made us present the chapters from the textbook to the class. Easy grade if you don't mind the childish projects and feeling like you are back in high school.
if you want to take a journey back to high school he's your man, im not saying it like a negative thing, but his approach is definetly refreshing and fun.
He is an awesome person and professor. The projects we were required to do helped the material stick in my head. I love the book he used it is very interesting. He is a very energetic and always available for help. He knows who is really interested and who isn't about psych. Since psych is my major he definitely helped me prepare for grad. school
This was a joke. No final, so what's the incentive to learn the material, you ask? the pop quizzes that weren't EVER mentioned in the syllabus but we get anyway. 350 index cards were a waste of time, and went into the garbage. Also had an artsncrafts project - last time I checked I finished elementary school in 1996. I do not reccommend.
The whole class is wasteful. The grading is not fair. If you want to learn nothing but getting tons of homework done. then, take him.
This professor is by far my favorite psy professor. He made class like an actualy social psy experiment. Arts & crafts was involved but it allowed me to have fun with the class and learned in different ways. There was also a final paper and no final. Great professor who is great to learn from.
It was one of the best classes I’ve ever taken in Baruch! Yes, arts& crafts were involved, but it was so much fun though. One paper, one psych cube and no final! The whole class was one big “social psych” experience for me. Highly recommended if truly enjoy SOCIAL part of the psychology. You’ll have a chance to get to know the whole class.
Out of all the profs in baruch, he is one of the most knowledgeable I have had. He made the class more and more exciting each day that I didn't want to miss a single one. The class had no tests, one huge paper (about 4-5 pages), and the theory cube (which actually helps develop a creative mind and is NOT a waste of time). A MUST-TAKE PROF!!!!
What a loser, takes u back to kindergarden. Dumb cube waste of time, this aint arts and crafts class, dudes obssessed with sex too keeps making everything an inference of it. waste of time.
he leads you back to kindergarden. class was a total waste of time. learned nothing in class because he sits in front of the computer and reads the textbook and the slides.by the way.. he looks like a chicken and laughs like a chicken.
You might hate or love his way of teaching, but I, personally, love it. He encourages active learning, meaning participation, discussion, presentation. That?s why some of the students get annoyed, I think. It helped me a lot. I definitely recommend him if you want to learn most of the material in class and not by yourself.
He became our permanent professor after the one originally assigned was in a car accident. Prof. Elcock has a very unique approach to learning, with lots of group work and participation. I have to admit, its very effective because I remember everything he told us. Very helpful, cheerful, and knowledgeable about all aspects of psychology. Take him!
He has a different teaching style and he has clinical experiences, very knowledgable! Take him!
He is a terrible teacher, if you want to get an easy grade take him, but if you want to learn something you rather skip this guy. I felt that I wasted my time, his class is not a college level course, he should be teaching @ another institution.
took him fall 2007. totally unprepared all the time. i'm psych major and he is the worst professor since he was most unintelligent person i've ever met. waste of time and money.
I agree with the comment below. He is the worst psychology professor. I did not learn anything in that class. All you do in that class is making art stuff which he calls "creative learning" And always late and unprepared for the class.
Bright, encouraging, interesting teaching style, cares a/b students
Wonderful professor! He cares about his students and always ask them for their input! He does ahavea different style of teaching....but it makes Psychology even more interesting! Love his cube projects...ppl have very creative ideas!!! And NO...he is not late for class he usualyl comes 15 minutes early..

very interesting teaching style. gets his students involved with the running of the classs. ask us to help decide on test dates n due dates. very helpful to his students. i enjoyed his class. very open prof as to share information with the class. he made the class enjoyable. i look forward to it on the days. EASYY CLASS TO GET AN A. take himmm
Prof Elcock is a very helpful hilarious and very Freudian. His Techniques makes you want to come to the next class. His slides and lecture are very helpful and so is the textbook. When it comes to tests use his slides, read the textbook and use the website he gives you because all of that helps you pass the class most import.
absolutely one of the worst professors i have ever had. if you want to learn about freud and get an A, then you should definitely take this class - as a bonus, he'll cancel class at least a few times for sure. if you actually want to learn something, you won't with elcock. he is annoying, immature, and incompetent. waste of time and money.
trust me. he is worst professor ever. you will not learn anything. He is very immature and he thinks he is always right. it was waste of time and money.
Ok so I really don't understand why people are hating on him.I would not listen to anyone rating him before this comment.Honestly, he is one of the best professors anyone can take in his/her coll career. He cares for his students with a passion and is extremely interesting. He is NOT annoying. If you enjoy sitting in a class bored then don't take him.
He's a good guy but he's very corny. He cannot teach at all, has no idea what's going on and is immature. He'll make the class feel like a kindergarten class. If you want to play games take his class, if you want to learn then don't. He's an easy pass but to get a good grade you have to attend class (alot of classes get canceled)
Great Professor. Funny and energetic. Makes the class fun. Very respectful and considers other people opinions. He varied the tests and made some of them projects which was very interesting and fun. Professor has great stories to tell which tie in with the class. His energetic way of teaching makes you want to come to class.
Great Prof. His teaching style's unique & fun.Teaches from life exp making psy interesting. You'll need the book & powerpoints which he puts on blackboard 2 study 4test & final.Project's easy & there's no hw.There r discussions on blackboard.Really enthusiastic & cares about the students.Takes attendance but cancels few classes.A breath of fresh air!
Professor Elcock is one of the best in Baruch. He made PSY 4012 recitation class very interesting (the big lecture class was so boring).Highly recommended.
HE IS A GOOD PROFESSOR, BUT HE GIVES A LOT OF WORK. (4 EXAMS, 1 FINAL, A GROUP PROJECT, READ SOME EXTRA BOOK.) ONE OF THE TESTS WAS 100 MC QUESTIONS. THAT WAS HARSH. ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION ARE TAKEN AND COUNT FOR YOUR GRADE. I THINK HE DOESNT TEACH ALL THAT CLEARLY. FUN CLASS, BUT UP IN THE AIR WEATHER TO TAKE HIM OR NOT
Elcock is great. The guy will keep trying to help you undertsand the material of the course. I didn't like the whole cube project but I'll let that go.
The best professor I've ever had. You can tell that psychology is a passion for him, and teaching is more than a job for him. He has a lot of clinical experience and that adds a lot to the course. I had him before and I thought that he was knowledgeble, humorous, caring, and he's even gotten better.
My second course with him, and I love how much he puts into making the courses that he teaches interesting. He really cares whether or not you learn the course material and whether or not you understand the material clearly. He cares about you as a student and as a person. I learn so much from in his classes. The best prof. I've had at Baruch.
Easy professor, good for GPA.
Took him for summer. Eccentric personality and behavior. Two challenging team projects squeezed into 5 short wks. Inability to provide clear guidelines for the projects and grading criteria. Tough grader. Emphasis on participation. Have to check your name every class that you participate. Wished that I never took him in the first place.
He makes you to laugh all the time, but class lectures are confusing. Requirements: class participation, flashcards with words or concepts required to remember (so far about 130), 6pg final paper, professional poster (group project) discussion board, some homework and extra credit:)I hope that I will get A:)No textbook. Just study your flashcards.
Hilarious, and very nice guy. Extremely easy to approach. Genuinely concerned with his students. Lectures off powerpoints-not always perfectly clear. REQUIREMENTS: 1.Attendance/participation. 2. A few tests, not all of them count) 3. 2 group projects- not hard. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Very excitable, kind, and always pleasant. He doesn't properly explain assignment material too well. His workload is quite intense and unorganized as well. This may be for many classes, but from the classes I have had, it wasn't very hectic. Overall, he's a kind person who absolutely loves what he's doing and is willing to share to his students.
His teaching style is very interesting. He almost makes you make friends in the class, which is amazing. You learn to overcome your shyness, and be comfortable with anyone. Honestly, I've built more relationships with classmates in this class than in all other classes combined, and I'm a junior. NO MATTER WHAT CLASS, IF YOU SEE HIS NAME, TAKE HIM.
I haven't received my grade yet, but I estimate it to be between an A- and B+. I am writing b/c I have never had such a course professor. What an experience! I am amazed at how much I learned a/b small groups, and the way Prof. Elcock got us to work and relate. I met more students in this class than in in all of years at Baruch.
To be honest... yes its a lot of work but its type easy. I mean like really easy, the tests are all textbook, half the assignment dont really affect your grade much so look at the syllabus and see what counts for what. Only negative is that he doesn't really explain some assignments that well, but as long as you feel you did good, some bs, ur fine
Although he is a great guy, the work load is ALOT!!!! But you do get to meet and interact with the other students in the class which is a great experience. Had a few quizzes, discussion boards a group poster project & and 20-page Final paper. Prof. is very knowledgeable and you can tell he really cares about his students & his job.
Really helpful professor, answers all questions and encourages peer involvement. He cares a lot about how much we learn in class, but didn't quite finish the curriculum. Only drawback is that he doesn't generally ask difficult questions that stimulate you but if you're in for the grade, you'll do well as long as you keep up with your assignments!
I just finished the course, and I can't believe how much I learned about social psych in 5 weeks, and I can't believe how much I talked; I never talk in my classes, but his was dfferent. I met many people and I felt comfortable tralking even though I have an accent and I'm shy. I am changing my schedule and adding 1 or 2 of Elcock's courses.
Can give a lot of work, but doable. Is not always clear with hw and project due dates. Many things were postponed or cancelled in the summer semester. The lectures are amusing and thought provoking. He is very approachable and has a good sense of humor. You will find yourself making a lot of friends in the class.a lot of extra credit recommended!
The class was a disaster for me. He cares about students and work hard, but doesn't know how to teach. Assignments are unorganized and overwhelming. Exams are extremely hard and tricky, most of the hm don't make sense. Got C for exam but received an A at the end for attending every class and do all the hm. I learned absolutely 0 from the lecture.
Unfair grader, unclear. His exams are sooo tricky. He makes the course more difficult, than its supposed to be.
Grades us through point system. All you have to do is just say something in class every day and get the extra credit, do all the assignments for the pts. The tests are from the ppt slides and his practice exams, simple. If you end up doing bad on the test,ur extra credit will end up giving an A.
Great guy however way to much work. Work load is a crazy amount when it should be 1/3 of the amount he gives. 3 Tests you can drop 1 and no final. I would avoid but if you have to take him then be prepared to have a huge workload.
He is a really nice guy and if you act interested then you will get an A. Don't bother buying the textbook all the study info you need is online. Really cares about his students and even though it's a lot of work it's easy to get an A.
Class is highly disorganized.Prof. E. is trying to be an entertainer more than a teacher.Forced participation is maybe a tool to make people feel comfortable speaking in public?Prof. E. needs to work out all the details before the beginning of the semester, distribute them, and stick to it.The class cannot teach itself. No need for all that lecture.
Excellent Professor, very smart and bright. Class was very challenging; it takes a lot of work to get an A grade. Overall, class was very fun and I learned a lot in his class. Attendance and participation are mandatory. Extra credits opportunities and two challenging groups projects. I really loved this class. Take it! :)
Do not take his class unless you like to do a lot of HW. This workload is too much and he does not clarify with the assignments you have to do. I recommend that you avoid him at all costs !!
I swear he is the toughest prof I've ever had!I'm taking social psy. he forces you participate in class/after class discussion board/connect plus practices questions(I just checked, and guess what?3 chapts questions are due today!the same time!) In the class, he just always try to be entertaining! ppt slides are helpful thought.
You'll spend so much time scrambling to keep up with his coursework (which is heavy, rarely 100% clear, and often dependent on your classmates) that you won't actually learn anything. You end up just trying to get it done on time by any means. Majority of your grade is attendance/participation and plenty of extra credit. DON'T BUY THE BOOK.
Horrible professor who needs to learn the basics of online classes. Please don't take any of his online classes as he does not allow enough time for his assignments to be done and bombards with u with multiple assignments, due back to back.He invades your mailbox with thousands of e-mails & there is a mandatory group project at the end.STAY AWAY!
This was the second course that I took with Prof. Elcock. Students who are committed to learning, and can really make a commitment to the learning experience seem to love his courses. I am still in contact with all of my group members. He pushes for nontraditional learning experiences and a lot of interaction.
I am a senior and this was my second online course. It was a unique learning experience, and I learned so much, and learned in so many ways. Prof. put so much into helping us learn a lot and bring out our best.
I loved the course and so far it's my favorite. Prof Elcock and the other students made the course different than any other. I just graduated:Yeah!
Great professor with a unique online teaching method. Kept me interested in Psychology and also sent a lot of e-mails to keep us updated and on track with assignments. Took two online classes with him, enjoyed both. Would take again.
I love this professor and he makes me have more passion on study Psychology. His gives a lot of homework and i need to spent a lot of time to do it but it helpful. Exams are not that hard and it always a online test so dont worry about the test. I will definitely take his class again.
If you email him, don't expect a response. I work full time and know how to prioritize, hence why I took an online class, it is impossible to do so with this class. Last week of class I received a 3 hour test, was asked to read a 200 page book and give a report, and complete my group project. Haven't heard a peep about the final.
There is a ton of work to be done in this class but submit on time, follow his instructions, and be detail-orientated - you will pass with flying colors. His class is enjoyable because he does give off a positive energy in the classroom but expect discussion boards, online tests, extra credit, reports, and a final poster. I would highly recommend.
Overall a nice professor. you can get an A without a problem. Participate in the group discussions, test are long but easy and you have plenty of time to do them. Group project very simple. Dont miss any work and you'll get an A. Very easy
it hybrid class, only meet once in a month. he is funny, but didn't teach much in the class. You just need to do work by yourself. lots work to do!!!!!! two assignment in every week, exam in every month, 2 group pj. is pressure that you need to do his assignment like every day!!!!! i would't take him if I know that much work to do
Worst professor ever! Bombards you with so much work without enough time to complete it well. Does not respond to emails. Does not care that you are taking other classes or have a job. Says he cares but clearly does not! Tough grader. I've never had such a terrible class and terrible professor. Seriously do NOT take.
He is responsible and clear. He is good. I'm grading my experience. I didn't enjoy it. I value face to face interaction. In this O/L class, there are DB assignments that quickly became tedious. Based on this experience I will never take another O/L class. If you like O/L courses go for it. As for me, O/L classes are out of the ? in the future.
Professor never answered his e-mails. He gave too much work for no reason. His discussion boards online were so tedious (25% taken off just for being late), assignments require you to go out of your way and do a lot of research. Did good in the class but I wouldn't have taken it again had I known it was going to be so much work.
Okay so Professor Elcock over all is a great funny person and is passionate about his work, BUT i would not recommend students who are taking more then 3 classes, who work or have any outside responsibilities to take this class because there is ALOT of work required to be done outside of class which can get VERY over whelming.
Professor Elcock was very inspirational and has a unique method of teaching and getting his students to accomplish an easy A. He's very old school. I took his class in the summer, it was ALOT of home work, attendance and participation is a must along with handing in assignments on time, however, at the end it will be worth it.
don't know who approved his syllabus, but they were very inconsiderate of the learner. too many assignments, very irritating in tone in emails. unrealistic time frames for due dates. a student's grades are put at risk with this kind of professor. not caring at all. i learned nothing; too busy completing assignments instead of absorbing knowledge.
Too much work for a 5 week session, very inconsiderate curriculum without regards to student lives. We take sessions like this while working and taking care of children/parents. The syllabus given at the beginning was very misleading therefore not giving students enough time to rethink staying in this class. I did not learn , very disappointed.
If you do not have an overly taxing workload you will love his classes, because you will learn all that you need to know for grad school. He is committed to his students. Take him if you can. He really wants his students succeed.
This professor was rude and unprofessional. It was impossible to discuss any assignments. He made a mistake on blackboard regardless on of the deadlines and blamed students for not meeting that deadline without an apology or further explanations. This is the worst professor i have ever had for all the years in college. Do not take him!
The professor came off as extremely unorganized. He expects a lot from his students. I don't mind putting in the work. As long as the requests are reasonable. But his instructions are very difficult to understand. Also he changed the time to the first class without notifying us. Then blamed everyone else for not showing up.
always available smart good stories
I loved his teaching style and the way he presented the material. He also help me a lot with my career plans. I off to grad school. This course really helped to prepare me for my GREs.
I look at some of his ratings and people are hating on him, because he gives a lot of work and expects a lot from his students. If you are over-loaded you might want to take someone else. If you are serious about psych and have the time, take him. My favorite course so far, and I'm a jr.
In class he's extremely enthusiastic and funny; however, the bad outweights the good. He gives way too much homework with unrealistic deadlines. The class is completely disorganized and the tests are extremely long. He emailed the test over a day late, TWICE! Only take if you have a lot of time and want to put in a lot of effort...
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. His enthusiasm for the field of psychology is evident from the first class. He communicates a lot.
He made the course material very interesting. He helped me find my major: Psychology. The most helful prof I've had and this is my second degree.
This Professor is very unorganized. He pressures people to meet deadlines but he can't meet his own deadlines. He is very rude in emails and very unprofessional. He does not teach, he is lazy and does not care about students. I would not take him again or recommend him.
Amazing
My favorite prof. ever! I am graduating and I wish I had him for other courses. He helped me get into grad school.
Good professor, very motivating but makes you work to get a good grade
