boo! this guy clearly hates his students and his job, lose the sarcasm buddy
Very boring
Super boring course... not worth it to listen. Doesn't care about his students.
Needs to stop worrying about cheatinga nd needs to learn how to teach economics
Nice enough and tries to be funny, but is hard to follow
He's hilarious even though his french needs a little work.... great prof

yeah, he's wacked out!

The worst prof ever. Doesn't care AT ALL about his students or his job. I hear the department doesn't like him too much either. They know he's a jerk. Why's he still teaching? I suggest to anyone who agrees to write to the dep. so they fire him
WI do not understand why you people don't like him. The course is boring-true, but the professor is cool and tries hard to make economics interesting!
Everybody have their own opinions
Harris made eco interesting and clear he's a little crazy with his rocket pack but besides that a good teacher
he honestly is interesting if you keep up with him..he really gets mad when you have ur cell phone on ! LOL
I really do not understand why you people rate him like this! Yes, economics is extremely boring subject, but the prof is GREAT!
hes a good prof. but really doesnt care bout his students .
Great proff!
DON'T TAKE ANY OF HIS FRENCH CLASSES. He can barely speaks it which makes everything extremely boring and pathetic.
Spends too much time trying to make macro fun and simple, and not enough actually teaching the material needed for tests. Stay at home and read the textbook, unless you want to hear economics scenarios involving his cats. Generally annoying guy.
One of my favourite first year profs...hilarious. Great teaching style makes material clear and easy to understand. Lots of review and keeps class interested.
Well his English classes in Economics are very good, most of my friends and I got good grades. His exams are neither hard or easy. He's a funny guy.
Most boring Prof ever. Seriously. Repeats his self...repeatedly. Loves to refer to cat food in examples. Teaching style sucks.
A bit rough around the edges, when you ask for help, but makes class fun and interesting. Fair tests, knows his stuff, and great with analogies( the ones that arent about cat food lol) Highly recommended
likes to be very efficient so if you don't do your homework you won't be able to keep up with the lesson.
too skinny. rides bike instead of car. reminds me of a witch. nice goatee. very exciteable and doesn't realize economics is possibly the most boring subject in history of mankind. comparable to a very pathetic edward norton on a diet. married to a bobcat.
the guy goes through his slides a disgustingly fast pace. nobody can keep up with him. i dropped the class because i wasnt prepared to spend my 10 minute breaks (3 hour class) trying to catch up on the notes i missed. oh, and dont close yer books early or he'll lose his damn mind !!!

Soooooo boring! Thinks he's funny but he's not. Overly particular ("fussy"). Goes way too fast for anyone to keep up.
so boring......
I don't remember anything of first year, but his 2nd year class was good.
One of the best teacher in OU economics. Although most people in his class find it too fast to copy all his lecture notes(and it is), but it is very clear and helpful for studying. His 2nd year course was the best course I had ever taken in OU. I found myself learning a lot of things.
He is an allright prof, his lectures are almost pointless, you can get the same knowledge from just reading the text book..even his examples are straight out of the textbook ( unless they are concerning cat food..) his exams are fair if you like multiple choice..
Way too fast, didn't explain things well. Just not clear, hopped from one subject to another. His notes are confusing and the lectures were pretty much a write off.
Thinks he knows it all, he should lighten up his personality, it may not be a good suit for teaching. Way too fast, and way to mouthy.
it seems overwhelming at first but the class is not hard as the teacher pretends is the first class. Sometimes he takes 2hours to explain a very simple stuff. If you study his notes and attend classes, it is easy to get an A. He doesn't like students in general. So don't ask him many questions.
This class is very easy if you have a bit of background eco knowledge. The tests are multiple choice and super easy. Not a lot of reading. Not a whole lot of note taking to do because you can dwnload his notes from the website. One of the easiest classes I've ever taken at Ottawa U and I'm in poli sci.
goes off on too many tangents.. uses "cat food" as a commodity to explain supply and demand too much, gets annoying. Class is a joke if you've taken it in high school, otherwise its fast pace and some aspects arent fully explained. Assignments were beyond easy...
Study from the textbook and you will be fine
has no idea what he is talking about. i could teach the class and have a better outcome. his notes are useless and his stories continuously get worse
Relates econ. back to the real word. fast unclarical writing but if you listen to the stories and examples its easier to understand.
fairly easy class... prof can be boring and monotone but he's nice and explains things very thoroughly... sometimes a little too thoroughly...but makes it easy to understand!
I liked this course and found Dr. Harris to be an above average professor. Although he's not super exciting, he is easy to understand and fairly thorough. He is well organized and has obviously taught this course a number of times. He's not that helpful and doesn't have office hours.
this prof rushes with his lecture and notes. i don't recommend this prof at all. he's not available for help and his notes make no sense.luckily, the textbook explains everything
He was a great teacher, although what he tough didn't have anything to do with the final exam. Overall a very frustrating course - but I still managed to get a good mark. His classes were very interesting, but unless you already have some prior knowledge about economics, he may go too fast for you.
Horrible teacher. RUN. Stupid stories, stupid notes, stupid man. The things he covered had nothing to do with the final exam and the practise exam was useless, as it was a million times easier than the actual exam. I took high school economics and got a great mark, but he just confused the hell out of me.
His lectures were beyond BORING! Notes are AWFUL! Take someone else! Hints to do decent: Assignments- Do wit friends cuz they're quite hard. MIDTERM- Harris' was really easy so try 2 rack up marks here! Q's all from s. guide! FINAL- Do the one they give u and u'll do well. Study the chapters they tell you to study! IT helped me! G'Luck!
Relatively dry but attempts @ humor, but the class wasnt that difficult. Not very clear in the notes.
i do not recommend this prof for anyone. you don't undertsand his notes since they are so messy (blames that his bad writing is because of a car accident).doesn't offer any office hours, doesn't like emails, and doesn't allow students to ask questions during class.....just a useless person.you'll regret taking a course with himn
His lectures were beyond BORING! Notes are AWFUL! Take someone else! Hints to do decent: Asgmts- hard, do w/ frenz. MT- REally easy, rack up marx here. Q's from s. guide! FINAL- Do the one they give u and u'll do well. Study the chapters they tell you to study! It helped me! G'Luck! Avoid Harris!
Professor Harris means well but he just can't make ends meet . His ways of teaching delay the class as it progresses and he does not seem very organized. Unrelated to his teaching, the fact that he looks like he would fall over if lightly pushed or even sneezed on does not help him gain popularity in the student ranks.
Tied for best prof I have had at Ottawa U. Always has interesting classes, not boring, and good raport with class. I would take any course he teaches
I like his lecture. He's good. He can explain well. and I build a good fundation of economics by taking his class. You'll learn and like economics in his class. His exams are not very easy but fair.
Very disorganized. It seems as if he does no work prior to the lecture and makes it up as he goes. He is very confusing and can take hours to explain simple topics. He will often go over alloted time to finish his lectures (and it was a three hour lecture). If you have any knowledge in eco. then you could teach this course better than he does.
I would definitely take another class with this professor. He was hilarious and taught the course material well. He rarely went over the alotted time. And, he always asked the permission of the class when he did.
He's kind of pompous and ridiculous but if you can get past that he's a decent prof. He knows what he is talking about. He can be condescending though, so if you're really sensitive or something I wouldn't recommend him but if not go for it. He uses great examples to teach the material and he uses the textbook(which is good). Pretty easy class.
I found him quirky and entertaining. He is very passionate about economics and went over topics thoroughly. He interacted well with the students to see if everyone was picking up on the material, but was a little bit all over the place with his notes. If you pay attention you will understand them though. Overall I liked his teaching though.
as long as you read the book, you should pass the class with flying colors
Very funny, makes a 3 hour class easy to get through. A bit disorganized, but overall a good teacher. makes reference to the textbook, exams are pretty standard, if you read the textbook you should do fine.
His lectures were beyond boring. Read the textbook and you'll do great. Only good thing is that all exams and midterms were MC. Drags on and on. Like someone said, if you know anything about economics you could teach it better than him...
I was not a huge fan of Harris, his midterms and exams are multiple choice. His teaching method to begin the year was him writing messy notes over a projector which was not helpful at all. He switched over to the power point which was better but read wrd for wd. Would choose a different prof in terms of learning, however his exams were better (m/c)
He was very nice and if you read the textbook then you will been fine. He try to relate to the student. I also found his method of teaching very entertaining :)
Sweet, funny guy. Does a great job of using relevant examples to explain. 3 hours is pretty torturous, but he's pretty amusing. Textbook is best source, past exams help too. Always happy to help, he actually cares for the students doing well
Easy prof. Read the book do the applia quizzes(easy 20%) and you will definetly do well in this class. the two midterms and final are all multiple choice which are also for the most part easy. Lectures are very boring never really went but the book is great at teaching so you dont need him.
To do well in this class, GO TO CLASS. That's all there is to it. Take notes in class, read the stuff he posts up. This course is an easy A as long as you attend classes. He may seem a little difficult to get along with but once you get past that he's pretty good at drilling you the basic concepts of economics.
This prof is AMAZING! By far the best prof I have had at UOttawa so far. He definitely keeps night classes very very interesting. He links everything to real life learning experience, he even gives tips on how to answer real economics jobs interview questions. His exams are very fair. No text book. He wants his students to succeed
He is a really nice guy. He explains everything clearly and with examples. Keeps the class engaged and doesnt bore them to death. His exams are really easy and straight forward and everything is as he talked about in the class, no surprises.
Fails to effectively convey material to students. Often spends long periods of time covering material that is irrelevant to the class. The class had about 120-150 students registered in it, but an average of 15-20 students attended class. A clear indication that I was not the only one who didn't enjoy his class.
LH is very relaxed - almost too relaxed. He talks painfully slow and he explains the material painfully slow. Sometimes he explains ideas to the point that it feel like he's beating at a dead horse. If you read the textbook and use the information in his lectures to fill in the gaps, you'll do fine.
exams are all multiple choices which I personally prefer. He knows his stuff very well
Second time take prof. Harris's class, and they were both awesome. His exams are fair and all multiple choices.
he's available after class for questions!
By far the best Economics professor at UOttawa!! The lectures were very interesting and current. The content covered in the course are directly related to todays current economic environment. I now got a job at the Federal Government, and if there was any class I took to actually help me get a job - it was this one. Strongly recommend!!
Awesome prof. He was really refreshing, compared to other economics professors. The class was also really relevant and up to date. One of the most interesting classes I've had throughout my studies. He's also funny!
He was a nice enough guy. His subject is really dry, and that wasn't his fault, but I found he struggled to be engaging. However, every few weeks he would make a spectacular pun. Some of the material he taught had nothing to do with what we needed to know. Sometimes he made claims that were completely unsupported by the textbook.
Follow the material and you'll do great.
AMAAAAAAAZING PROF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So good at what he does, so clear, explains in a really nice way and is friendly and funny. Strongly recommended !
his lectures go beyond the textbook and the basic economic concepts. one of the most helpful courses I have taken.
He literally taught straight from the textbook and read off his slides (which were created by the same company that made the textbook so they were word for word the same). I don't think I sat through an entire lecture once, such a waste of time but he is kind of funny
Not a bad guy, thinks he is teaching a high school course, tests are decent. His teaching style is awful.
Literally taught right out of a text book. His exams and online quizzes come from the textbook manufacturing company so all you need to do is read it and you will pass. Really useless prof but at least the textbook was kind of funny.
Harris' Contemporary Micro Econ course was great. You barely need to go to class because Harris teaches exactly what is in the textbook (I also took econ in high school). The manufacturer also has powerpoints prepared that are posted on Blackboard. The My Econ Lab quizzes are an easy way to boost your mark, exams are all multiple choice.
Absolutely awful economics teacher who is condescending towards his students and rude as can be. He's not helpful, not interesting, very old school and a prof I would avoid at all costs. Lectures are brutal, only good aspect is the relatively easy tests. Big thumbs down
Not very clear notes. Does a pretty poor job of explaining things. Most of all he is incredibly rude and absolutely horrible to be around. One of the worst professors at Ottawa, avoid at all costs.
I find that he is rude and not understanding that many of us in the class are not native of the English language. I have also noticed that he is arrogent as well.
Very tough marker. Exams are very hard. And he doesnt post proper lecture slides so it's hard to know what you are going to be tested on. Overall horrible prof. Do not take.
He is extremely rude, and sarcastic. His lectures drag on, and he teaches one thing for a whole class, and then for the first have of another class. Reads right off the slides (which are directly from the textbook). Does not teach anything but the textbook, so if you read the textbook, there is absolutely no need to go to class. Easy A class.
Lawrence really takes his time explaining the chapters, he takes all 3 lecture hours and spends them making his own interesting note sketches. However, Lawrence is extremely rude, fussy, and expects everyone to use his words when answering the exam questions. His tests are anything but easy, you can't ignore the chapter details and expect to pass.
Lawrence is the sassiest prof i have ever had. He walks around with a backpack that looks like a jetpack. That things bulletproof I'm convinced of it. Absolutely love him.. didn't at first but he grew on me. Talks a lot about his "Macintosh" and his "$900 iPhone". Loves those who ask many questions. Be sure your phone is on silent.
Long and boring lectures. I had the class Monday's from 7-10 at night and it was so brutal! His examples, and slides are taken from the textbook so class can be really repetitive.
Worst professor for the worst class. Doesn't think, is essentially narrating the textbook. Rehashes topics many times within the same lecture. The first half of each lecture is basically the last half of the previous lecture. WARNING: Do NOT Take. Ever
Lawrence Harris is a horrible professor. His notes are hand-drawn, illegible and messy. He doesn't hold office hours and straight-up tells us not to bother emailing him with questions. His lectures are boring and dry, and he is extremely rude and arrogant. He teaches straight out of the textbook. Avoid his class at all cost!!!
Prof Lawrence Harris is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. He goes off on long rants not even applicable to what the text book says. I would avoid taking this class at all costs. However, if you are a good self learner and can teach yourself the textbook you'll do fine. You do NOT have to attend class, he teaches directly off online slides
Worst prof I've ever had. Really rude to students, no sense of humour (but thinks he has one). Does NOT help you with any questions when they matter. Textbook is essential to passing. You will learn nothing in class but MEMORIZE the textbook. AVOID HIS CLASSES AT ALL COSTS.
Terrible Prof. He goes on and on about particular topics that the textbook does an adequate job covering. His writing is awful and even gets students to photocopy and upload his notes for him. his Blackboard is a mess as well, with little useful information to be found.
Boring class with useless notes. Attendance is not mandatory but he will test things not in the book, you will know the answer only if you go to his class. :(
Read the textbook, go to class, and do all the online quizzes if you want to get good grades. Tests are 50% multiple choice and 50% short answers. Some test questions are drawn from examples that are not in the textbook so make sure you go to class and jot down decent notes. Don't expect to do well if you only rely on the notes he posts online.
I found his first year classes very easy to pass. Just finish Aplia assignments for easy marks. I never bothered going to class (as it is very long and boring). Just memorize the chapters for the midterms and finals and you're golden.
You may skip his claas if you are good at reading. Everything he talks in class is on the textbook. Your reading speed is always faster than his Lecture speed!
Is very slow when it comes to progressing chapters -- yet hands out unnecessary homework for the upcoming chapter every week . Strict when it comes to phones so watch out for that Has occasional blinks of inspiration Precise, maybe too precise
Hes not a good prof lmfao, class average on midterm 20/50
Spends the majority of a 3 hour lecture going over the pointless ramblings of the previous lecture. Maybe if he spent more time on the actual course content and less time talking about his Apple shares and his pretentious apartment in New York, the class average for the midterm would've been over 60%.
The first day he had the nice power point, then he starts writing his own note. The class average would have been higher if he talks less about his cat food, apple products, apartment in NY.. Refused to answer questions, and asks students to check things on line.
SO ARROGANT! It blew my mind hearing some of the things that would come out of his mouth. As for teaching, he uses powerpoints that were made by the publisher of the text book so if you don't go to class, just read the text book and look over the slides and your golden. Only positive is that your only homework are Aplia assignments (insanely easy).
Professor lawrence harris is just wonderful He makes everything so clear, and everybody can achieve high marks if you go to his every lecture and do the online practicesBesides, he is a super humorous and funny person, and he always gives interesting examples to help us understandI feel so lucky that I can still be in his class next semester
I really can't understand why so many people leave during his lectures. He's such a responsible professor and deliver amazing lectures. Although night class is annoying, He always make it interesting. I could tell he was really upset seeing so many students left. Cheer up, Your amazing lectures are for students who know what is respect.
DROP OR SWITCH IF YOU HAVE HIM. Never in my life have I had to experience a professor that had to do zero to little work in preparing to teach as he got his stuff off the textbook or websites. You don't ever have to go to class as the he speaks the textbook. The level of annoyance and rudeness from him was unbearable at times.
Drones on. Not amazing not terrible. His exams are decent. If you study you will pass. Not accessible outside of class. Lectures were useless and I attended all of them. Read the textbook and you'll be fine.
Exudes arrogance. Not accessible outside of class & you're not allowed to email him. He read off the slides from the textbook publisher, making going to class useless. Aplia is easy and worth 25% of your grade. As previously mentioned, he talks a lot about his apartment in New York. So go to the lectures if you want to hear all about it.
Everything you need to know is in the textbook- so no need to go to class if you don't like his lectures. Easy online assignments are worth 25%. He makes the midterm and exam SOOO SIMPLE. If you seriously just read the textbook and do the questions in the study guide (if you want to) ITS AN EASY A! What more do you really need?
Not a bad prof; I found him really funny, he always relates concepts to real life examples, & Aplia is a great way to practice questions & boost your mark since he uses 'keep the highest grade'. Only complaints are that his written notes are messy & it would be nice if he was more willing to help students outside of class. Use textbook/study guide!
Professor Harris was a very fair prof. If you read and understand the textbook you will do fine in his class. Going to his lectures helps you to better understand the material because he gives these funny and memorable examples. I'm glad I have the opportunity to be in his class next semester.
Terrible prof, slides are directly from the textbook. Didn't even go to class he will talk about his apple shares for an hour at a time, you learn more from reading the textbook by your self.
His rough notes were impossible to read and were not organized. When power points were used they were provided straight from the textbook -- unacceptable!!! He talks to slow and exaggerates unimportant points that are better explained in the textbook. Do not use his notes to study, use the textbook and Aplia assignments. Dont bother going to lectur
Teaching styles were inconsistent, switching from textbook powerpoints to his "really rough notes" that were next to impossible to read, and the fact that he expected us to understand what he meant by them, even when he explained them during lectures, was completely inexplicable. If attending lectures, enjoy talks of Apple shares... buy an iPhone!
OMG Lawrence Harris! My favourite professor of first semester! He is just humorous and passionate! I dont understand why so many people consider him arrogant and the lectures were useless, I think he is perfect! He really trys to impress us. I can also tell that he was soooo sad while seeing so many left his lectures. Cheer up I support you
His classes are like right wing North Korea. He makes grandiose promises (this will be the greatest class of your academic career) that will never pan out. Something as benign as checking the time on your phone can provoke authoritarian shouts of Phone! Put it in your pocket! Save yourself from his pop-econ lectures and just read the textbook.
His lectures are straight booty, don't even think that class, take another teacher please, I stopped going since the 4th week
What a legend. My roommate and I only went to half the classes and pre-gamed for Gatineau in his class. We still got decent makes, but a lot of pre-exam anxiety would have been saved with a bit more hard work. His night classes were ridiculously boring, but he does know and explain the concepts well. Aplia is a life saver.
Very dry lectures, likes to go off track and try not to take this class from 7-10pm. Yet he was quite humorous.
Don't bother going to class, just read the textbook and do aplia and you'll be fine. Midterm and exam aren't too difficult as long as you understand the concepts.
Aplia is easy points but I would strongly disrecommend this course. I found him very inaccessible and when I did ask a question his answer was condescending at best. His class is very much based on his view of economics and the world (his exams too). Plus he makes apple ads but is tough on phones in class. Thinks he's funny but he's not.
It's easy to get a 90+ in the class but he is awful. He is completely inaccessible outside of the class room, he is often late, won't answer student emails, wouldn't fix the mistake he made on the midterm. I got a 95, but he is the most dismissive and unprofessional professor I have ever had. Total scrub. Cares too much about his silly haircut.
Tries to keep class entertained with jokes. He sometimes spends a long time covering just one concept. Reading the textbook is important. Best part is the "highest mark" grading system for APLIA. Being worth 25%, its pretty much a free A on a midterm and it also encourages you to go back and figure out what you did wrong.
The midterm and final were all multiple choice questions. The lectures were really boring, despite having him teach from the textbook. The graphs that he draws to convey the content are really hard to understand. He tries to be funny and engaging, but it just doesn't cut it.
Aplia is a huge mark booster with it being worth 20% which definitely helps. Mid term was very straightforward, however the 100 M.C final was definitely more difficult. Makes a lot of awkward jokes in class. Definitely not the best prof I've had, not the worst either.
Rants about the same material for days on end without actual clarity. Impatient. Somewhat condescending.
Talks a lot, is very disorganized. And yet, something about his repetitiveness really hammers home what he wants you to study the most. Not great, but good.
That class was so strange for me. The professor obviously knows what he's talking about, but his slides were taken directly from the textbook. This is an easy course, 25% of the mark is taken from easy online assignments. I went to all the lectures, but I'm not quite sure why I did, in retrospect.
I had him for Micro last semester as well. He's a fair prof who knows the content very well and doesn't trick students. A great choice.
His class was a nightmare. He was very disorganized and struggled with tech. He was condescending and impatient. My friend didn't understand a concept so she approached him. He was snarky & he responded with apathy. Completely useless. I understood the concepts so luckily I had no reason to talk to him. Painfully boring and uses weird examples.
Easy to get a good grade with Aplia assignments, but classes were very dull. Took too long to explain simple concepts and then rushed through more complex topics.
DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM! The WORST prof ever, talks a lot in class. Midterm is hard! HE is so full of himself. AVOID HIM!
Knows what he's talking about, but sometimes forgets that we do not. The Aplia's suck but that's not his fault.
Good professor overall, not the best though... Very slow at posting the slides from his Powerpoint on Brightspace. He tries a bit too hard to be funny, which is actually the funny part. Aplia assignments are easy points.
lawrence harris is a perfect example of a prof who knows everything about his subject, but nothing about teaching. going to the lectures is essentially useless as he is incapable of properly explaining course material in a clear and concise way. read the textbook and take good notes and you will do well. aplia online assignments are an easy mark.
Doesn't matter if you show up to class as long as you read the textbook. His slides aren't very organized and he gets off topic a lot. He tries super hard to make the subject interesting but what ends up being the most interesting is his character. The guys a literal meme. Aplia is a huge grade booster and the material is super easy.
Really good prof, put alot of effort into the lectures and tried to make it as interesting as possible. Midterm and final were super easy.
Harris is an ok teacher teaching an ok class. He knew the material and attempted to keep the class engaged with jokes that he definitely enjoyed more than his students. The aplia assignments were annoying and took about an hour to complete. Lectures were slow progressing. If you read the textbook you can teach yourself the material.
Teach nothing and combine with the hardest exam, the worst one I've ever take. He helps me to ruin my GPA.
Very mediocre lecturer. Does not properly use powerpoints, is unclear in regards to expectations, inaccessible outside class. His lack of clarity combined with his ambiguously phrased multiple-choice exams are truly what make his course so difficult.
This professor is extremely disorganized and it takes him weeks to post the lecture notes on Brightspace. He thinks he's hilarious when he is not and always wastes a good 10-15 minutes before every class and gets mad at you when you start packing up to leave because he was to go to the 'very last second'. I do not recommend this professor.
seldom posts his "slides" or unintelligible hand written notes online. ended up skipping his lectures and teaching the material to myself via textbook. on the rare occasion that i did show up to class i regretted it immediately. gets mad if you pack up a minute before class ends or show up late when he's usually late himself. avoid at all costs.
If you can take a different econ prof, I highly recommend doing so. His slides are completely unrelated to the content that are on his midterms. Very strongly opinionated, will refuse to look over a midterm with you and his office hours are non-existent. Taught myself everything.
avoid at all costs. The most boring and hard prof of uOttawa. If you have to take his class, be ready to do your own research and learn everything by yourself. The guy is so full of himself.
this guy sucks. avoid at all costs, you will end up teaching yourself the entire course material because he doesnt teach jack. his tests are way harder than the connect assignments and his lectures are boring as hell. red bull is required for this class
Avoid. He's not accessible outside of class (tells students not to email him for any reason). Midterms are way harder than they need to be. Slideshows and lectures are so wordy it is nearly impossible to understand everything. Just avoid.
This is the worst class I have ever taken before. I hated every second of it. The exams were absolutely ridiculous and the majority of the class failed them. 50 short answer questions. If you can avoid his class DO!
I have a passion for Econ and had high marks in AP Econ courses in high school, yet his class was my most disliked of the semester. His lectures will put you to sleep and genuinely not teach you the material on the midterms, so read the textbook. Be warned, even if you teach yourself, his "short answer questions" will mess you up. Avoid if you can
as long as you study, take notes in class, read the textbook, and can understand the topics, Lawrence Harris is a great professor!
im not good at econ &was terrified for this class, but its not hard at all. If ur taking his class, my tips are: (1) read the textbook every week and take notes on it (2) do the connects with someone else if possible, it helps to work through the questions outloud (3) go to class, but only take notes on what he emphasizes. easy A+ if u do some work
AVOID IF YOU CAN! His lectures are dry and unnecessary (exams are based on textbook). Full of himself and condescending if you have a question. Humiliates students if they ask a "bad" question. Midterms are unreasonable and not reflective of what was "learned". No questions allowed during exams. He's not accessible outside class. Annoying too.
He has no office hours, and you can only email him if it is an emergency! He makes the content more difficult than it should be. I would highly recommend making time to do the Mindtap exercises, it will boost your grade. BUT WITH THAT SAID, AVOID HIS CLASS! He knows what he is talking about but not a great teacher.
Pros: the course is easy and can be understood simply by following the textbook and his slides accurately match the midterms. Cons: messy notes, can't reach him outside and it was made clear not to email him! Everything he says is irrelevant in class. Not sure how they let him teach because he has a music degree.
I'm still pretty confused as to how Harris got to be a professor. He told us not to email him, and his office hours are non-existent. The only reason I did well was because the content for contemporary macro-econ is crazy easy, I stopped going to his classes because lectures made me confused. Pretty much paid to teach myself this one. Avoid him.
Avoid this class if you can, prof is boring and lectures are not intesting.. You can pass that with the textbook, make sure to do the assignments!
Pretty boring teaching style, as he reads off of his slides. Very useful for understanding the gist of each topic/chapter. Attend lectures to facilitate completion of "connect" assignments Make sure to read the textbook carefully.
Professor Harris did not have any hours listed in the syllabus, although he was always open to questions post-lecture. His lectures were boring. His midterms are quite easy, but final exam was extremely hard. Use the textbook, study with the textbook, and not the lecture slides. At the end of the day I learned the basics of microeconomics.
I would never recommend anyone to take his classes as he does an awful job explaining the content. He had no time set aside for office hours and over all Khan Academy does a better job at teaching you. Over 1/3 of the people in my class failed one of his midterms and the final was extremely difficult.
His lectures and slides are not helpful. He spends too much time talking about graphs, but he's not good at explaining. Just read the textbook by yourself and you should be fine.
Harris has just about the most odd sense of humour I've ever come across. Rambles a lot and goes off topic. Spends too much time on some things. I stopped attending lectures and just used the textbook to learn micro. Exam was very hard - learn the graphs.
If you're taking intro to micro or macro just skip his class and read the textbook. His midterm and finals are usually multiple choice. Easy A-B If you put a little effort in the readings.
He puts in a lot of effort into his lectures and powerpoints which I can appreciate but most of his exams are more based on the textbook than anything else. Honestly, if you study the textbook and take your own notes you will be fine. (and he always makes analogies about cat food????)
Harris really seems like he dislikes teaching. Does not host office hours and told us not to email him (is this even allowed? Arent profs supposed to help their students?) He is condescending & speaks down you if you do attempt to ask for help. I learned everything reading the textbook. I suggest to avoid, probably the worst prof Ive encountered
Loved his teaching style, amazing prof. Only thing is his notes were horrible so if you aren't in class to take your own, you're screws. I had him pre-covid
