Great prof! Ever so calm and collected
The greatest math prof.

He's a smart guy, great with question, and has a charming enthusiasm.
The BEST course in Comp. Sci! You WILL learn.

biggest nerd ever, usually takes him a long time to add or subtract
He's a good prof. eeeeasy midterm
only gets mad when people keep talking, awlright guyzz will be quiet noww
The coolest prof on the entire universe. Transcendental attitude. Rocks, tall.
totally tripped out but possibly the best math prof at the school
Absolutely the best professor ever. Brilliant, clear, funny, and has a contagious enthusiasm for his topics. Take any of his courses you can.
He must be high, but makes math interesting
Enthusiastic professor, like a kid showing off his shiney new toy!! Makes class interesting by using phrases like "this stupid formula".
That Krazy Kolasa. His Klass Kicks ass.
One of the best profs I've had here. Definitely knows his stuff and is excited about it. Teaches well, and is a little paranoid most of the time...
Awesome Class! I actually looked forward to it. Exams are tough and assigments take very long, but it's worth it.

he is cool
He is a very good, enthusiastic, jolly and brilliant teacher who knows what the students want. Teacher, no he is not a teacher more look like a friend who passes funny remarks in the class "stupid formulae","I stole this problem from the bo
Very nice tall prof. who doesn't look professor rather than look a very good friend who amuses his class with his funny jokes and always give a break during the class.
Explains very well, takes time to answer student questions, available during office hours and has a good sense of humour without being too goofy. Plays music during breaks (ie. Pink Floyd). Good guy all around.
This professor, on the go. 10 thumbs up 10/10. Very clear, easy, just understand the material in the class and you are throug. I got A in this course. He is really very cool.
Definitely a good prof. A safe choice, I think he is even better than Delic and Pascal. Definitely better than Ord and Fernando
This guy is da Bomb! Is it just me or does he talk just like Jeff Goldblum? I actually liked going to this class, a great break from boring Engineering profs. His notes are clear, and exams are straightforward. One of the best profs I've had!
Funny guy, cracks jokes in class! Repeats "you see" all the time. Great prof though. Goes the extra mile to help you.
He is ok but everytime he always has issues with marks with changes for the tests. Hopefully he'll be better when we have him for the next course. I respect him but should consider even if I got some right answers that came to 0.
He is an amazing lecturer, he cracks jokes to keep you awake and its entertaining as well. The rest of the ryerson math department should be forced to sit in on one of his classes to understand how a lecture is supposed to take place.
Great prof! Go to lectures, do your assignments, review his notes, and go over the examples from class. Guaranteed A+. Don't bother with the suggested problems & textbook. They're useless. Now, anyone wanna' buy mine from $150? =P
His classes are helpful, but his tests are too hard.
Best math prof at Ryerson. Very friendly, teaches clearly, and is very helpful. You will learn in his class.
hes solution to everything is "gaussian elimination" he will repeat "you see?" or "solve using gaussian eliminations" every 1 or 2 minutes..I had to drop the class, his lectures are VERY boring..
this guy is awesome. too bad the subject was so simple and straight forward. if linear wasnt so easy, he may be able to keep ppl awake. i never opened the book or did a practise problem and got an A+. lectures are super clear, and very understandable. if you dont understand this guy, you should not take the course.
great teacher, easy to understand, listens to great music on his break
He explains everything really well and uses perfect examples to demonstrate anything that is expected of the students. Great teacher, just not a great class for the extremely lazy.
A great prof, I would advise anyone to choose him. He knows his stuff, presents it clearly, make lots of jokes during class, and goes the extra mile to help you understand the material.
Really fun professor. He'll teach you something for sure. Makes my**** days (which start at 8 am) better than how they might have been.
One of the most entertaining profs I ever had in Ryerson. You will rarely see math teacher like him. He is enthusiastic about what he teaches. Course is not so easy though. You better remember all calculus stuff, as midterms can become really hard. Also make sure to start doing assignments early, not a day before they are due.
Best math teacher ever! He's so funny and makes everything more intersting. He also plays good music during breaks and is very helpful when you have questions. He makes me look forward to class even though it's at 8am!
Exceptional teacher. Wants you not only to know what you are learning, but also why. Believes in seeing math beyond formulas. Will emphasize on the interpretation of the concepts. Solves problems in more than one way. Does not rush material. Passionate about teaching. Very approachable. Cares about your success. Not afraid to make mistakes.<3
great prof
Makes taking math that much more enjoyable. You can teach yourself out of the book, but going to his classes were fun. One of my fave profs for first year!
This guys defines amazingness!I am not gonna lie the course is hard, but he makes it fun. Lots of MATLAB.Midterms are tough as well.Make sure you keep up with the lectures, if you miss class you are screwed! He also plays music during the break. I would definitely take another course with him!
Good Prof, worth going to class, good notes. The only thing I don't like: He doesn't think we work hard. We're not all party animals!
He is the best Prof. ever, I wish if I have him in the next math courses...he explains very well, his tests was not hard, I got an A for just attending his class and listen!!
he is a great prof, make sure you come to lectures and you will understand what's going on.
Explanations are extremely clear. Very helpful during office hours.
Outstanding professor. Speaks very clearly, explains concepts at a pace that doesn't lose anyone. His jokes are funny (IMO). Always up-beat and fun, but still professional. Best prof I've had, period. If I needed more mth courses, I would seek out anything he teaches. I can't think of anything negative to say whatsoever. Great work Dr Kolasa!
Quite a challenging course, very easy to fall behind in. The MATLAB component was quite difficult, but the theory was pretty easy. Dr. Kolasa is a very helpful in office hours and will make sure you understand.
He is a pretty good prof. There are a lot of ideas going on in his head. He jumps from one topic to another out of no where. I personally did not like the course. I believe the course should be changed to CPS. You can get an easy A without even knowing the theory.
Wonderful professor! Teaches very well, he is interesting and good looking. Definitely take his class!
Just do the practices questions, and you'll pass. You should be good. Great guy.
Lectures are a must unless you plan on teaching yourself from the textbook. He explains everything really well. The subject is quite straightforward but he somehow manages to put some pretty tough stuff on the exams, so make sure to study and do as many problems as you can. Overall, great prof and pretty funny too.
I suggest you sit in the front row since he writes tiny. His tests are fair but there will always be a couple of questions that are difficult. Class gets boring but pay attention. I find it more helpful paying attention to his lectures than just to simply copying the board. He explains a lot of important things verbally (and doesn't write it down).
AMAZING prof. Really clear and is easy to approach. He explains things in detail and is not afraid to ask questions if anyone needs help. ATTEND his lectures as they are were clear and was all I needed to study for his midterm/finals to achieve a B+. Easy course.
He has an awesome teaching style, very goofy and funny, tries to get students to inderstand theory of the concepts. Go to lectures that is important. Exams are pretty hard.
Fun prof. he wears lots of funky shirts. He makes math fun to do, and his tests are very fair
hard evaluations. not just tests, but assignments and quizzes can be hard too UNLESS you know your material 100%. oh and he gives pop quizzes, so if you like surprises props, otherwise good luck. no notes posted online too so ALWAYS attend classes and PAY ATTENTION.
Class attendance is mandatory if you want a decent grade (doesn't post notes online). Lots of MATLAB so be prepared for that. Coding questions are often 100% or 0% but he'll give you marks if you defend your code (go see him). Tests are not similar to practice tests he posts but they're not that bad if you study. He bell curves if marks are low :)
Amazing professor, never made math so easy.
Very good prof knows linear algebra extremely well. Few things you'll notice about him: 1. 9/10 lectures he will use up to the last minute to explain something new 2. Talks like a mad scientist 3. Makes note taking hard by erasing stuff 4. Repeats some things so many times. With that said, hes a good prof still.
good prof. tests arent bad, just practice the examples in class. the tests are super long tho, but he gives bonus marks! he's funny and takes his time explaining. must go to class because he hand writes all of his notes and doesnt post them
Proper math professor.
He wants everyone to fail. His lectures are not useful. His practice exams are completely different from the actual exams. Goodbye!
Only class where I've attended every lecture because he doesn't post notes. Labs are easy with some programming background but the assignments are long and difficult. Midterm was straight forward, but the exam was just insanity. Absolutely nothing like previous year exams. He gave a very generous curve on the final (30-40%, avg was way below <50%).
Unorganized, does not teach properly, not even a recommended textbook to refer to. He doesn't give out proper notes nor proper explanations about the concepts. Just goes straight to showing his Matlab examples without proper explanation and jumps from one topic to another, which is very difficult to follow since the class doesn't use a book.
Lectures were quite confusing/unorganized. The course did not follow a specific book, so it was difficult to study off of the unclear notes taken in class. Midterm and Final were very fair. Assignments were very difficult especially if youre not familiar with MATLAB. Nice guy, friendly personality! More organized lectures would be appreciated.
He's a really nice person and does care. Midterm and final were very fair but he marks very hard on the assignments which are worth 45% (15% x 3). Not an easy class, and very disorganized lectures. He goes all over the place and it's very hard to follow him. Start those assignments early, he shows no mercy on them!!
He's a thoughtful and understanding person, but one of the few professors who I really think shouldn't be teaching. During lectures he bounces around a lot of different concepts which makes it difficult to follow. It's as if he's just saying whatever pops into his mind at the time. He didn't use a textbook either. So all we had are scribbled notes
His lectures are pretty good, so I would suggest attending them while you can. Also be sure to study the given textbook questions in each unit/chapter throughout the semester. Furthermore, the difficulty of his class doesn't stem from the course content, but the limited time given to solve all of his questions effectively before time runs out.
Follow the book directly. Generous to give a list of recommended questions from the book to do. Quizzes and access code homework was easy. The midterm and final exam were challenging. Helps you a bit in mental math training. His lectures have more personality, making them enjoyable to attend.
Amazing lectures once again. He clarifies some problem-solving techniques that were vague in MTH207. Follows the book but adds a few things just to be ready for numerical analysis (MTH501). Midterm and Final Exam were fair. He does give us a list of recommended homework questions from the book.
Even though the course was online and that it was meant to be a MATLAB course, he taught and provided questions to do some approximation methods by hand. He was generous to give us the option to do any method we wanted. The assignments were a bit hard because we didn't know his marking criteria. Tough grader on assignments, midterm, and final exam.
Dr. Kolasa is an excellent professor. He's very knowledgeable and helpful in the field of Calculus. He does make you pay heavily for the textbook and homework service, but I'd say with how good the textbook is for the entirety of MTH207 and 310 (it's meant for those two courses), that it's worth it. Attend the lectures!
Be warned. MTH 719 is not fun with this professor. The Assignments are very difficult, the quizzes can be very tricky and the exam was completely unreasonable. Making the assignments difficult at least gives you time to solve them. The exam was completely unreasonable in terms of difficulty and time. Exams should not be made so most fail.
A nice guy and willing to help, but his lectures don't have much structure and it's hard to see what the point of what he's teaching is. Assignments, tests and quizzes are all very difficult. He definitely pushes understanding so you can apply knowledge to questions you've never seen (and can't google). A good grade from him is rewarding however.
The worst professor I've had at Ryerson/TMU by far. I'm not sure why his rating is so high when majority of the class I was in agrees that they wish they took it with someone else. Insanely hard assignments, final exam was made for students to fail and did not represent what we learned, and he barely curved. Nice guy, but please save yourself.
He was amazing for MTH501. Assignments were difficult as always but he gave opportunity for extra credit. Labs became super easy once he realized the class wasn't performing well. Very interesting course too.
Grade is 40% MATLAB, we spend 15 min a week on it. Despite this he's a tough grader. Code can ONLY give solution, stingy with partials. His reason is that we can just test our code at home. Didn't spend any time learning how to debug. Notes are handwritten and photographed in the dark. Rarely teaches with examples or doesn't go into them in detail
His lectures were clear and enjoyable. He lightened up on the quizzes and the exam and assignments were very reasonable. If you put some time writing code in Matlab, you will do well.
Funny guy. Takes a while to get to the point. Definitely recommend sitting in front as it is easy to get distracted in his class. Do the recommended problems that he posts at the start of the semester. These are not graded but a lot of the lab test questions are taken from here.
He teaches in a very jokey way but I don't think like he did a good job with the material or preparing us for assessments. Solutions were bare bones - he only posted half the practice final ans & his code never has comments or explains what its doing. He doesn't do problems during lecture & he can't explain things well during office hours. Avoid.
Personally, I really liked his teaching style and found his lectures really helpful. He's very personable and imo pretty funny so the course never felt like a slog for me despite having 4 hours of class over 2 days every week. He does write everything right on the blackboard though and he doesn't post photos so you need to be present to take notes.
Run if you have him for upper year math courses was the advice I was given, I obviously did not heed that advice. He was fine for Calc I and II, with a few questionable moments. I dropped this course as he didn't really teach us and exams were terrible is an understatement. He used a curve of 1.25, creating a grade disparity which was not helpful.
The only good thing about him is his grading scheme(a good balance of assignments, quizzes, and tests), but his actual exams and assignments are WAY HARDER than they need to be. The lectures barely help, as he doesn't go over a lot examples, he just rants about the theory. If you're taking this class with him, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS.
Fantastic prof! This course was a really challenging one but was also definitely the most interesting class I took this semester. Dr. Kolasa really cares a lot about teaching and he's very accessible outside of class hours for additional instruction. If you have a genuine love for mathematics then I'm sure you will really enjoy his courses!
Evaluations are extremely difficult if you do not thoroughly know the material. While the midterm was curved, the final exam was not. Some assignments were completely unrelated to what was actually being taught. Going to classes doesn't offer much because he posts his notes online. Good luck in this class because you will need it.
literally the worst professor i've ever had. having him was so traumatic that i had nightmares about having him as my prof again throughout the entire summer break. i wish i was joking. he's got to be more reasonable with the level of difficulty of his exams for the little amount of time given to complete them.
great course - really enjoyed the structure as it had no tests, just 3 major assignments and then weekly exercises. it was a lot of work but the lectures and problem sets were interesting so it definitely felt worth the effort. Dr. Kolasa is a great prof, he genuinely just wants people to learn. recommended for those interested in analysis!
No exams. Only assignments and weekly exercises. His lecture notes are useful in understanding the questions. He always asks the class if they have any questions about the course material. He provides us with his MATLAB codes to play with. He extends deadlines for the assignments, and he is willing to give students another opportunity to improve.
Good professor. Had him for Calculus I & 2. Showing up to lectures are useful, although they were often unorganized and assessments are pretty hard but fair.
It's a hard course but the content is interesting and imo his lectures are good. Be prepared to learn the theory well if you want to succeed, you definitely wont be able to rely on memorization here. That being said, with the extra credit offered it definitely is possible to get a good grade if you work hard.
You could not pay me a million dollars to take this course again. GO. TO. OFFICE HOURS!!!
He is a bad professor because he makes the tests really difficult and impossible, midterm is easier, but final is brutal. The quizzes are tricky and the assignments are not related to the course material taught during class. You need to be good with matlab and go to his office hours for help. Good luck on passing this class
Very difficult course. 24% Assignments, 20% Quizzes, 24% Midterm, 32% final, with an extra credit assignment boosting your quiz and assignment grades. Assignments are applying the theory, quizzes are related to labs, and the prof gives adequate prep for the exams, including a test bank. Go to office hours!!
Math classes arent a freebie, Dr Kolasa is really passionate about math and the way to do well is to go to his office hours, I feel. Easy to do well with self studying, but he basically helps you and guides you if you come talk to him with is really good.
He is a good professor, and his notes are done really well, clear and concise. MTH 108 itself, though, is a very tough course on its own. Kolasa is a professor who wants his students to pass, so asking questions in class is never shamed.
This class is a challenging one, but with the right study tools, it's doable. I found the lectures a bit dry, so I supplemented with resources like Unstuck ai and the textbook. The exams are brutal, so be prepared to put in the work.
Great professor, show up to classes or you will have a hard time passing. A very hard marker but in his lectures he explains everything very well and it's easy to understand. Dr. Kolasa is very passionate in what he does and really wants his students to pass. The practice final was very similar to the final
He is, overall, a nice person, just really bad at explaining/teaching. His quizzes don't look anything like his lectures. I survived the class because of the TAs. His a hard marker that makes it even worse
Very hard grader, not only that but the material of this course is very difficult as well. Be prepared for lots of late nights of wondering if you'll even pass the course. Visiting his office hours for the assignments is a must, and even if you do visit you still might not get a good grade. Good luck in this course.
I enjoyed taking my two first year calc courses with Professor Kolasa! He tends to go off on a tangent in his lectures sometimes but definitely go to the lectures!! The concepts he discusses during the lectures are invaluable for the exams. His tests are very fair and quite easy. Exams were a bit harder, but still reasonable if you do the homework.
Professor Kolasa is a very hard grader, attend the lectures and do the suggested homework. The final exam was very similar to the practice final exam.
I honestly wouldn't recommend this professor. He moves through material way too fast, assumes you already understand everything, and gives very little support. When students ask questions, he can be dismissive or rude. Tests are extremely hard, and you're basically left to teach yourself the course.
