Dr. Norcio is amazing! He works out problems in class and is very approachable if you have any questions. Norcio cares about his students and I would strongly advise you to take this class with him. I didn't even study for the final and I still got over a 99% in the class. VERY EASY

He was nice and helpful for the most part. I really like he made all his text and quizzes with extra credit!!! He is not much up for unexcused absences though. He did not want me to miss a quiz to attend my grandma's funeral. Overall I would say take him though..

He is a really good teacher. Although is a little confusing to follow along with him, he dosen't mind goin back over concepts to make sure that you understand. and he really cares about the sudents and helping them do well in his class in addition to understanding the concepts. he's one of the best teachers i've had in a long time. :)

Dr. Norcio is a wonderful teacher. I would highly recommend taking him if you are entering Chemistry unexperienced. He breaks down material and provides worksheets to prepare you for the exams. Take advantage of the worksheets to study for the exams and your grade should be high.

Pretty good teacher. He goes through the material quickly but will stop and all questions. He doesnt curve the test grades but does allow you to earn over 100%. He isnt a cold person, he's rather sympathetic but he's under pressure to get through the material. Follow along in class and do the problem sets and you'll do fine.

A perfectly reasonable professor teaching a subject that can be difficult. Getting an "A" in this class is no problem if you study, though, and he'll help you whenever you need it. Definitely do the homework problems he recommends. He's teaching the 400-level biochem now; I'd definitely take him over Dixon, but I'd take Wei over either of them.

Dr. Norcio is a wonderful teacher. The material is not easy and frankly the class is terrible. Dr. Norcio is a compassionate professor, but 120N is an unforgiving course. I would suggest to take him in 120A. The course is slower and much easier to understand.

Stay away from Chem 120N. We started the semester with 200 students. By the end of the sem only half is left and not everyone passed. HARD!

He is good at teaching and relating the topic to be understandable. As far as test and quizzes he knows how to "weed" out the students that are not putting in 120%. He has a very strict policy that he will not break as far as grading and making up test or quizzes. Take this class if you have TIME to put your ALL into this class

This teacher is horrible. Do not take him!! I dropped his Chemistry class because he can barely speak English. He can't work his smart bored, and he tells lame jokes! Find another teacher!!

He is a really good teacher. The CHEM 120N class was terrible on its own. A lot of people thought it was him but it wasn't. He is extremely nice and helpful. If I could I would request him for all my CHEM classes. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!! JUST STAY AWAY FROM THAT CHEM 120N CLASS!!!

Great teacher demands students take time to study and does not hand out A's very organized problem sets,slideshows are extremely helpful as long as you go to class you will do fine but STAY AWAY FROM 120N unless your are very smart or like to study for hours on one subject and end up like me falling behind and dropping it. One of the best professor

Was a very good teacher for 120a. DO NOT TAKE 120N YOU WILL FALL BEHIND AND END UP DROPPING IT. He is very helpful, the powerpoints are good, he explains things well and the problem sets basically are the test. Only tests you on what you know. Doesn't try to trick you. Really want's you to do well. I worked hard for my A.

Dr. Norcio is an amazing professor. He always posts helpful problem sets on bb and will do examples from them in class. Tests are easy as long as you know what you're doing. There's no homework but I suggest doing the textbook problems for extra help.

Dr. Norcio was an excellent teacher. I took him for Chem 120N. He told the class the first day how difficult and fast paced the class would be. Dr. Norcio went out of his way to post very helpful problem sets on blackboard. I completed 120N with a 98%. If you do your problem sets and book problems, you can do well! Only grades tests so be ready!

Dr. Norcio is an amazing professor, but very hard. If you actually want to learn something about BioChem, take him. Better than Dr. Dixon, your other option. Very hard tests, but Biochem isn't supposed to be easy either. Would love to take again!!

Really smart teacher. He posts really helpful problem sets, old tests, and study guides online for you to use. The lectures however are really dull and he is really hard to follow at times.

Great professor. He will definitely challenge you, and you will have to attend and pay close attention in order to receive a good grade. He did curve the grading scale so that an 85 and up is considered an A. Best advice is to pay attention, do all problem sets, and study practices quizzes. He is also there for you when you have questions!

I am currently in his 120N class. He is a great professor & I would highly recommend taking this class. He is helpful & posts problem sets. Read the book, go to class, do the problem sets. No homework. Your only grades are tests and maybe a couple quizzes.

I am currently in his CHEM 120N class. We started the semester with over 100 students in the class and are down to about 50. It is a really difficult class just because we go over so much information every day. He will help you out when you need it, but I would recommend taking the two semester course rather than 120N.

Norcio is an excellent teacher. His 120n class is very difficult but only because it is fast-paced. I would recommend him to anyone who has to take chemistry. He is very helpful and gives excellent examples to help you learn the material easier.

Dr. Norcio is an incredibly thoughtful and organized professor. I highly recommend taking this course with him because he always presents material in a logical and clear manner, and emphasis the important aspects of the material that will need to be memorized or just known in theory. Do this if you want a chem minor!

I took Dr. Norcio for 120n, which is a difficult course. He helped us as best as he could with extra practice problems and resources. He had to rush through material because it was just part of the accelerated course. Worked really hard and ended up with an A. Highly recommend him, just the course isn't for everyone. Curves a LOT in the end though!

Dr. Norcio is a very difficult teacher and does not make it a priority to help his students. 120N is a very difficult course, and he does not slow down the material at all. I would not recommend this course unless you are able to dedicate your entire semester's work to this ONE class.

This was a very challenging class, but he was a decent professor. I took advanced chemistry in high school and did horrible in this class. There are way too many chapters on each test, which is a result of a two semester class being crammed into one semester. I do not recommend this class for any nursing majors, it kills your GPA.

Dr. Norcio seemed very stoic at the beginning of the semester but towards the end he lightened up a bit and even started cracking a few jokes. He does not give many extra credit points but when he did it was in the nick of time to take you over to the next grade. The test were pretty hard but if you study hard enough you can get an A. I got a B.

Tough class, but he made it doable. Lecture was boring, as he tends to drone on and on, but attending class is useful as he provides examples and helpful tips for difficult material. Tests are tough, but if you study the notes, problem sets, and TEXTBOOK questions (which aren't mandatory) you will be fine! Curved overall grade too!

Intimidating at first, but stick with it. He's very helpful if you go to his office hours. His first couple tests are easy, the last 2 (the multiple choice) not so much. He gave a HUGE curve at the end and a big extra credit take home quiz that helped a ton! He gets funny as the semester goes on too!

Dr. Norcio will be blunt at the beginning about you earning your grade. Very straight forward and intimidating, but gives you what you need to do well. Read the text book for clarity and DO THE PROBLEM SETS HE GIVES! The total grade is comprised of only 4 exams and no final, unless you missed an exam.

This class is extremely hard, you will have to put in a lot of time studying. All of his questions are straight from the notes, so study them! Make sure you do the problem sets. If you don't attend lecture you will be lost while trying to study. First and last exams are the hardest, so don't slack at the beginning or the end of the semester.

Terrible teacher. No test had an average of higher than 50%. He gave no curve, and 10bonus points which could not save anyones grade. I dropped and now have to enter the nursing program a year late. Avoid him at all costs.

Exams are strictly multiple choice and very difficult. Dr. Norcio said to focus on studying notes instead of book. Didn't help me. Lectures are basically reading the powerpoints. Offered 15 points extra credit but it didn't help. I wish I would have dropped it, but I will be re-taking it in the summer.

Norcio is a very difficult professor. He doesn't really stop for anyone or anything. His tests are definitely the most difficult part of the class. Expect to study on a daily basis in order to pass. The averages on each of the exams in my class never broke 50, and contrary to what others say, he did NOT curve for my class. Goodluck if you take him

I am not a bad student, I average a B in most of my classes. This is not like any other classes. I swear he makes it impossible for half the class to even pass. Good luck trying to study, not even did the SI sessions help. He did not curve for our class, and material was hard and he made it harder by being confusing. Good luck taking this class.

This has been one of the most challenging classes I have had so far. Organic Chem was the worst. His test always seemed to be different than the problem sets. Bio Chem was a bit easier because it was a lot of memorization. All I can say is study to understand not to just wing the test because if you don't understand the work you will not pass.

Chemistry is hard and while he does post his lecture notes online, you won't understand them unless you go to class. Super strict about people talking in class and is not afraid to call you out in front of everyone. If you want to get a good grade, make sure you do the problem sets that aren't for credit. Only opened the book the week of finals.

Hardest class I've taken here at SIUE, if you thought 120A was hard, 120B is a nightmare. More than half my class failed the first 2 tests. The material is really hard to understand and he doesn't do a very good job of explaining it. It does get easier towards the end of the semester once you get through the organic stuff.

He is a good teacher... I'm writing this review 2 years from the time I took the prep-chem class 113. I never had chemistry in Highschool, and went into this class expecting hell. Well it's actually quite easy... If you follow what he is doing and maybe practice it for 2 hours a week tops you should be able to get a B. Would take again.

I am pretty good at chemistry, so that helped me a lot. It's definitely not something to take lightly. Norcio explains things well and is willing to help if you ask. Very strict on talking in class and computer use. He will call you out, but honestly you're in college not kindergarten, so it shouldn't be a big deal to pay attention. Very funny!

The organic chem tests are easy as long as you go to class, but the biochem tests require you to study a lot and memorize tons of material. Studying daily for this course helps. He is a good teacher and cracks some jokes too. He explains things well and hates when people talk.

A lot of people called him tough, but they were dumb so... He is funny and very wise. DO NOT skip class or you will be lost. The lab is a joke, though lol. Good luck! Ask for help

I found his organization, clarity, and style of teaching very helpful and would definitely take him again. Expectations were clear and he made sure the class was well prepared before exams. Highly organized, well prepared, clear criteria, thorough lectures, and excellent test reviews. Attendance optional, but missing his lecture is the difference between 'A' and 'B'. Dr. Norcio goes out of his way to help students. He provides quizzes and bonus points to assist struggling students. Wish I could take my next Chem class with him.

Good teacher, you need to show up for classes. The grading scale is awesome, and a pretty easy A. No mandatory homework, but it does help. It's all quizzes and test. He will tell you the types of problems to expect on the test in the lectures. DO THE PROBLEM SETS only if you want an A.

This class is the reason I'm no longer an English major. He's so hard to understand with his accent. If you miss classes, you will fail. He will literally stop class and throw a fit if he hears a phone. His tests are so hard! You'll think you did well and then will have failed. If it can be avoided, I would not take Norcio at all costs.

Dr. Norcio was by far my favorite professor. While the material is difficult, he explains it thoroughly and answers any questions you may have. I found myself struggling and he recommend I come to his office hours every day he had them so he could further clarify any confusion I had. He demands respect in his classroom.

Taking this class with Dr. Norcio will be tough. If you skip class you're definitely not going to pass his exam and you must do the online homework if you want to understand the material. GO TO OFFICE HOURS & SI SESSIONS. He also HATES when people talk/whisper while he is teaching and the ENTIRE class will be penalized if he catches you doing so.

After taking Miller for 120A, this was somewhat of a rude awakening. Go to class, study HARD, and ask questions/attend as many review sessions as possible.

The toughest professor I've had thus far. Test are difficult and he goes through material super fast. He hates when people talk while he is teaching and also no food or drinks in class. If you want to pass his class go to SI sessions and don't miss class! Also, he is really nice in his office hours so take advantage of that also.

I have been a straight A student and this is the first class I've received a B in. This is an extremely difficult class, and he does tell you this class takes lots of hard work.. and he isn't lying. He is also VERY strict about talking/eating/laughing/etc in his class, and will call you out in front of 300+ people if you do.

Took this course with Norcio Fall of 2015 and was forced to drop the course because I was failing. I didn't understand the lectures very well and when asking questions in class he made you feel dumb. Don't talk, eat or drink in class or he will call you out. Took class the following semester and passed with an A.

Currently taking him right now, he is funny, strict, caring, nice, and very knowledgeable. Out of a class of about 300, he memorized my name the 1st week and uses me in examples, which helps me stay focused and feel appreciated. HW is easy, lectures are interesting, and exams are difficult. If you are nursing, this class matters, so pay attention.

Dr. Norcio,in my opinion, is a great guy. Yes, his class is very difficult but I believe biochem is going to be tough no matter who you take it with. His lectures are very specific and do contain a lot of content, but this class is not impossible to do well in (it is my fault I didn't get an A). Dr. Norcio demands respect from his students, but as the class goes on he reveals his comical side. The tests are honestly not that difficult, and are mainly memorization, except for the first test. Homework is practically nonexistent and is an easy 100 points. He's a good lecturer, and he made Biochemistry manageable.

Lawrence is a passionate professor but does not connect well with students. The test he gives are extremely hard. The first exam average was a 65% and he considers this good. I suggest taking a different professor at all means. Good Luck

Says from the very beginning that the final is not comprehensive but in the last 2 weeks jokes on you it actually is somewhat comprehensive. If you do not do well on his tests you will struggle to test. Final is extremely difficult. Overall you can't really understand what he even is saying most of the time and goes quickly over material.

Norcio is very strict, but hes a pretty good professor. Going into this class, everyone told me not to take him, but I ended up liking him. Chem 120A is mainly math. If you are good at math, you should be fine. Attendance isnt mandatory, but he goes over material quickly, and the material is easier to learn if youre in class doing the problems.

The first two weeks I hated this class, but it got better. He will call people out in class to answer questions sometimes and he also makes sure you know that he is the "master". I'm not a fan of chemistry, and I've had better profs, but this class isn't too bad for something that is required.

Dr. Norcio is very hard and strict. During the first day, I took his class, he was stringent and tough. However, as I gotten to know him throughout his office hours, I can see he truly cares about his students. Just go to class, take notes, and do the book problems and you should be fine!

Very clear and well organized. Provides many different forms of preparation for tests such as practice worksheets which if you work through you will be fine for the exams. A little strict, but an excellent instructor. I wish I could take all of my chemistry courses with this professor.

Dr. Norcio was one of the best professors I've had this semester. He explained the difficulty of the material and was always open in his office hours to answer questions. He was a little stern but he also made us laugh during the class time. I definitely would not mind taking him again if I had to.

Dr. Norcio may seem intimidating at the beginning, but as the semester goes on you'll understand he just has the student's best interest. His exams cover a lot of material, but if you go to all of the PLTL's and SI sessions, you'll get a better understanding of the information and do well on the exams.

Dr. Norcio is a pretty good professor. He makes the lectures fairly interesting and has a great sense of humor. The is class is extremely test heavy and he makes the tests very difficult. As long as you stay above the average, which is usually around 60%, you will pass the class.

Dr. Norcio is probably one of the hardest professors I have ever had. He makes you work for your grade for sure. His tests are pretty wicked but he kicks in a curve that really heals the grades of the class. His lectures are very good but once again his tests are hard. Dr. Norcio was my favorite professor last semester. He is strict, but its because he cares about his students and wants them to have a good learning environment. Great guy. Took 120A with Norcio and learned very fast that you have to put in the work outside of class. Little homework points - so dont feel like thats going to save your grade. 120B was very tough, organic, inorganic, and biochem topics require a genuine understanding. Norcio is good at teaching as long as you can keep up. If you lose your spot for a few seconds, youll be extremely lost. Gives ways to remember things and book questions that will help you with the exams. Hardest part was him moving onto other chapters before we take the exam on the chapter we went over which makes everyone confused. GO TO PLTL!!!

Norcio is really blunt and it lead to a few confrontations with students in my class that could've been avoided, I found that he worded his tests very strangely almost like trick questions so they were unnecessarily hard for your understanding of the concept. I don't know how he still works at this school with the withdrawal/fail rate he flaunts.

Dr. Norcio is an amazing professor, he's very different (and very kind) outside of class and is always willing to help. Don't miss lecture, it's hard to catch up. 85% is considered an A in his class. Norcio is a great guy and a great teacher, I will definitely be taking more of his classes. He talks a lot in class, but overall, as long as you attend class and pay attention, the content is very easy to understand. I found this class to be fairly easy. I had taken it in high school, so it was a review for me. He wants you to succeed and tells you what types of questions the test will have. He also provides you with plenty of opportunity to learn and practice before the test. If you haven't taken chemistry, it will be a little difficult and fast-paced.

I took Norcio online and even though it was tough to finish all the lectures, it was pretty simple . The tests are difficult, but as long as you pay attention to the lectures and do the PLTL, you will be fine. The course is also curved which is nice as well. You cannot cheat in this class, and a lot of students this year learned that the hard way.

Completely unnecessarily difficult. He is too proud or passionate about chemistry to understand that he's teaching a 100 level class which many non chem majors take. If this were a higher level course, I wouldn't mind as you're going to need to learn the material, and you've made it that far for a reason. But for an introductory class? Never again.

If you want to do good in his class go to lecture. His teachings fine, but his test are harder than the stuff on your homework. You can't be scared to ask questions because the course builds off of what you learned in the unit(s) before so make sure you understand.He will yell at you in front of the class if you talk during his class

Dr. Norcio is good at teaching, and he knows what he is talking about. But he tends to get very angry at students for whispering in class, even if they are just asking their neighbor if the got the last note he wrote on the board, and he will yell at them and stop class to do so. Dr. Norcio is a good professor, but he has a god complex and gets extremely POed when anyone whispers even slightly and will stop class to yell about it. Norcio is a great professor! He truly cares about your education. He grades your final score on a curve which make things so much easier since there are not many points to earn. With over 300 students in the room, dead silence is nearly impossible; god forbid you whisper to your neighbor about a class-related question - he will stop class to yell about it. Norcio is good, but he doesn't give any extra credit. His tests are super hard, because there's a correct answer, but it isn't the answer he wants. All he talks about is his diabetes. It's like 400 points for exams and only 150 for everything else, so you have to do well on the exams.

This class is very fast paced compared to 120A! I was lost most of the semester because he goes through the information really quickly and the topics build off one another. I would suggest getting 100% on all the homework and attend every PLTL session as most of the class averaged C on the exams. The grading scale is curved very nicely though.

I was honestly scared of him when I had him for 120A, but I loved him by the end of 120B. He makes the funniest jokes during class and then doesn't acknowledge it. He does lecture very fast and the material is confusing, but he really does want to help his students so reach out if you need help. He hates talking (don't talk for your own sake)

Dr. Norcio is knowledgeable and knows how to break things down. Disclaimer: I took his Chem-130 course at Lewis and Clark. He is a humorous person with a fun energy. If you show up to class ready to work and pay attention you will have no issues. Be aware, he lectures at a quick pace so make sure to ask questions if you don't understand. Attendance is tracked, but he will work with you if have issues.

Norcio is alright for this course. 120B is certainly more difficult than 120A. He would sometimes go on random tangents about stuff that wasn't on the exams, which could be irritating. Still, if you pay attention in lecture it's a little helpful. Make cheat sheets for this class! They really helped me on exams since a lot of material overlaps.

Class is very organized. He often sends out mass emails about upcoming due dates, so that helps you keep yourself on track. Exams, quizzes are all online. It is a little challenging course, but SI sessions and PLTL can help to catch up and he sends out date and time for those tutoring sessions too. Do NOT talk in his class - he will yell at you lol

Honestly, I stopped attending class after the 2nd test. There are 5 tests total. 1-2 hw day before each test. Tests are open note and online, no lockdown browser. You can take them at home. The professor has a small accent, but I would for sure take him again solely since I can not show up, not study, and get easy A's.
