Very helpful and easy going.
Great teacher! Takes his work very seriously and is very helpful. He always makes sure everyone understands. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it, it will be easier for you to do well on the tests.
Very no-nonsense, but fair and /very/ willing to help.
Very good teacher for those who are scared of math.
He is the best teacher ever! I strongly recommend you to take a class with him. His exams are all easy, if you do your homework.
Make sure to practice the type of problems he places on the board. That is what on the test. On vocab or silly stuff, just 5 problems, you do 4. Follow instructions and you should have an A. One bad thing he does not allow Ti83 or above, which sucks, because bus schools expect you to know that.
Lectures can be boring but, if you take notes and do the homework, you will get an A...he gets extremely annoyed when people come in late...so dont do it!
wow, he's the best math teacher i had at nvcc. very nice and very percise. follow his note exactly and you'll do well. i am happy i chose him over the rest of the mth teacher at nvcc.
Very helpful,a great teacher to take for MTH 163, 241, 242, and 271, just study your notes and your homework and you'll pass with ease.
He was late for several classes because he was 1 hour behind schedule because he was on CDT!!
He could always laugh, but he always put my exams in the Testing Center late.
the best of all math teachers..he has a hot temper thou you better be seriouse..iam gonna give u the tip to get an A in his class..take notes..do the homework..do the homework again and again cause his test is from the h.w..be respectful in his class..he is very seriouse and moody but a great great teacher
Very helpful teaching especially before and during tests. He can give off an attitude of this math and you are beneath me but hang in there. He is one of the best - wish I had him for MTH 151! I would definitely recommend this professor especially for those that are intimidated by math.
Clear and to the point. The key to his class is doing the homework and gaining extra understanding of the problems from that homework. He isn't easy, but if you do the homework and study some you will understand it well. An above average instructor with a good sense of humor.
He is a great teacher. He goes over the work in class. Ask questions he will answer with no problem. He has a sense of humor. He is clear on all the times out of class he can be reached for help. I will take him for all the math that I need to take. Take him if he fits in your schedule!
His overall teaching style is firm, fair and consistent. He routinely reiterates his exam, grading and attendance policy and procedure which gives a student clear understanding on how to meet with success in his class. Attend class, take notes, he is there to help. Don't be disruptive, disrepectful, he's the teacher not the student. gr8t class
I dreaded taking calc. but thanks to him I learned and passed with a very good grade. He is a great teacher, and he is always there if you need his help. Just go to class and do your HW.
Prof Stark is awesome. Attend your class and do your HW and you are gonna get a astraight A. All his test are from the HW. Mann!! I am lovin him lol!!
He used to be easy and nice but not any more. i don't know what happened??? He's mean, fast and not that helpful.. The 1st test more than half of the class failed and he's happy about it The 2nd test alot of people dropped the class...I don't recomend taking this class with him anymore...
Well, i heard that he's a really good prof but i disagree. he's HARD and stuck up!!! i don't recommend taking him.
he is da best math prof. ever. if you suck at math then take his class. he makes everything easier.easy to pass his class..all u gotta do is show up in class do da hw..test r ez..everything frm da hw..u will pass guaranteed..n if u still think he is hard..then GOODLUCK wid math.....
This is a GREAT teacher. It is college, so you have to do the homework, study, & qualify for the class. The people who complain need to go back to High School. He clearly tells you what areas to study for on the test and the tests are reasonable. He even gives up his free time to conduct help sessions. Do the work & you will pass.
very nice teacher, if you do your homework, you'll pass the class. He is easy and his tests are based on the notes and homework.

One may think he's difficult, but it's not him. It's the subject and he teaches it as clear as it can be taught. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and you'll be fine. Attend as many of his help sessions because they're very helpful. Always know he truly cares, so show him you do! Also... don't take the class if you really don't have the prerequisite done.
I hate math with a passion, but Mr. Stark is the only teacher I've ever had who made sense of the subject for me! Takes his time explaining things and doesn't make you feel like an idiot.
excellent teacher u got take this guy......

This proffessor is a very helpfull math teacher compared to all the math teachers in this campuss. He does all he can to help you.Help sessions, office hours and break time. The way u can fail this teachers class is that if u dont care n u dont come to class n do his homework other then that if u pay attention in this class n do ure homework u can g
Mr.stark is the best math teacher that i've ever had. honestly, he explains very clearly n would do his best to pass his students. on top of that he is like a father, he gives his students advises too. i would definately n strongly recommand him. trust me u gonna thank me 4 that!!
This is the best teacher a student can wish for.....My advice is if ur looking for an easy (A)... Take him...Holla <<1>>
the best teacher you can have is profesor Stark. i learned a lot from him. I took all my math classes with him and i'm so happy because i'm gonna be in his statistics 242 in fall. he's is the best among all teachers that what I can say. take the class with him if you wanna learn
sucks..He's hard and stuck up...Run away.. If u planning to fail this class then take it...the worst teacher ever..The majority of the class by the end of the semester failed the final...Run away...Very hard grader and too many stupid rules just like him...U got warned...Runnnn....
hes a sorta weird guy but this is as easy as Calc can possibly be! TAKE HIM! Also, make sure to stay after class on test days, cuz he will show you all the correct answers and the final is almost exactly like the three tests. Do the work and study, and you'll get an easy A.
he would make your math easy and save your life from other crazy professors.
Easy A grade. As long as you pay attention in the class and do assigned homework, you good to go. Easy teacher. I had him in my summer 2006 and would take him again in Fall 2006.
please, don't take the class with him on the summer, he makes most of people confuced in the class. Only if you are good in math you can get better grade. I thought he was horrible in grading.
If you wana 've an A, take him. Make sure don't miss any class and ask uncleared questions. He'll explain over and over till you understand every stapes.
Great teacher. i will recommed to everyone. Easy A. Attend every class. He will explain over and over until you understand it. if he will see any doutfull face he will start the question. Little problem about him is, if the class is full and u want that. he won't help u to get in the class.he would say go head and talk to the mth dean. EASY THACHER
Took him over the summer and I hated it. I only took him because he got such good reviews on here. He is helpful if you ask the right questions. Ask the wrong one and he will make you fell like an idiot. He kept referring to MTH 163 the prior semester as if everyone in his class had taken it with him. Got mad if you didnt understand.
He is a very good teacher. He explains everyhing to the teeth. Attendance is mandatory. he gets most of his exams from the assigned homework. Please, on his exams make sure you write LARGE, he makes so a big deal..., he makes STATS not hard at all.Highly recommended!!!!!!
stark.L is the best prof! He is very helpful. if u dont understand something just go see him in his office hours and he will explain everythin very clearly to you. gives some points for attendance and participation. exams are more than fair. make sure you do ur hw. excellent prof!
He is the greatest teacher! Very clear. Just pay attention. If you need help then see him @ office hours. Don't be afraid to ask a question. Study with others from class it helps sometimes too.
His class is easy. and he knows the subject very well. Theres only one thing wrong. Staying awake in his class is harder than his test
Great teacher. I took a lot away from his class and feel ready for 173. His tests were pretty easy b/c he grades on partial credit. As long as you show your work, you'll get some points. Will explain things until he's blue in the face to make sure you understand it. I'd take another class with him.
He goes through the chapters without explaining.
excellent teacher
This guy is horrible. Nit picks answers for test apart. He expects you to put your answer on 1 sheet of paper and show work but not show all the work. He repeats himself, very annoying. I will never take this guy again and I recommend you DO THE SAME.

I think he was a very fair teacher, and math is difficult, but he is willing to take the time to help you any way he can. A very good teacher I am very happy I took him.
He plans the curriculum well and presents well. He is an experienced teacher who is helpful and fair. Four exams during the semester were quite challenging. Overall, he is an excellent Stat teacher and I would take his classes again!!
terrible teacher.do not take him.he is just very inconsu-iderate.you work very hard and he is to hard on grading. he takes points off for not writing in large letters. he is just not the right teacher to take.
To the student below. He is an excellent teacher. he explains the material well and he gives help sessions. He is not a terrible teacher. You are a terrible student. If you want to blame someone go look in the mirror.
He is a very good teacher. He teaches the material in a very crystal clear way. If you dont understand a problem and ask me like 10 times he would repeat it for you in a very clear way. excellent prof! see him in office hrs, he is a little different then other profs. good grading style. gives you 4 problems in the exam. Good prof!
I don't know why so many people like this professor. He is a nice guy, but he is treats his classes like we are 12. He repeats himself over and over and it gets quite obnoxious. I took 242 over the summer as a transient student and he kept refering to 241, which was not fair. I think he talks just to hear himself. I would never take him again.
The best Professor I ever had. He makes life easy. He repeat things to make sure we understand the material. I highly recommended this professor. Especially for the student how don't like Math and have no background.
Great professor, highly recommended. Teaches well and is very clear. 4 tests and drop lowest grade. must have text book. you'll pass this class, take it with him
he is good teacher and very repetitive which is good because he explains everything very clear. his class can be boring. well it is math..but i recommend because he teaches verywell
excellent, very helpful.
Mr. Stark is a good teacher for math. There is little calculator use, which I found to help me understand and remember how to solve problems, since we had to do a good majority by hand. If you will be using math in your career and want to really understand the intrinsics of math, Mr. Stark's class can teach you that.
he is an amazing teacher...i hated math, he made me love it. made me understand everything. aced both classes.
He's a good teacher but can get sidetracked- not helpful when time is of the essence. He can be insecure of his teaching and will take it out on students. Not the best teacher I've had...If he came to class with an actual lesson plan in mind, more learning would occur in class. I recommend him but his teaching skills need improvement
good professor
Very helpful guy, explains the material well, all you have to do is study you notes and do your homework and you'll get an A.
He is the BEST professor I had my entire college degree.
I passed with a "c" in that class, but he was really good in teaching. I slacked off a bit but an "A" is possible. Very helpful and understandable.
HE'S THE GREATEST N BEST BEST N BEST OF THE BEST I DONT THINK I WILL EVER FINE A PROF. LIKE HIM HE JUST GET THE PROBLEM IN UR MIND LIKE MAGIC IT GET VERY EASY. VERY HELPFULL AND USES HIS TIME TO GIVE US SESSIONS BEFORE CLASS UNTIL HE GOT SICK. PLZZ IF HE STILL TEACHES TAKE HIM N U WILL THANK ME HERE IN THIS SITE. HES THE BEST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
everybody take class with him. he is my best and super duper prof..... makes you easy in mathematics. please forget all other math professors and take calss with him. he is fantastic and great professor.
He is a great teacher, but really easy on students. I really liked his grading style. 3 test and final, but final worths 50% of your grade, so work little hard on it. overall he is the easiest teacher i have ever encounter my my life
He is good in teaching and He is such hard worker. It is clear and understandable. If you would do homework and take notes. It is easy to take A.
Pro Stark is the best math teacher i ever met. He explains everything until you get it. All you have to do is do your h.w and study your notes and you'll do fine.
He is sooooo easssy!!! If you dont understand something... he will always try to help you. He is the best math teacher ever!! Take his class and i promise you that you will understand math and get a good grade!! TAKE HIM! He doesn't check hw (but i recommend you do it... exams are composed from hw)..and make sure you come to class..DUHHHH!!
Easy? yes. but with that comes boring, repetitious, unorganized, and ill-prepared. If you are somewhat good at math and don't wanna get bored in class... i recommend you find another professor. He's a nice guy though.
this guy...all he does is tell old black jokes. i recommend you take olsen and listen to his boring chants rather than take this guy...i know for sure this man is very intellectual but i don't think he applies it to his teaching, windham should teach english instead, for he is clearly not suited to teach math
He is a good teacher.Do the homework...don't miss any.His exams are usually 7-10 workout questions. If you follow what he says, guarenteed A.
really hard almost every1 failed his class.
This teacher is rated really good before this review and thats the reason i took him but his class was extremely hard, he made easy stuff so complicated and made me get confused. AND i got a C which lowered my gpa so bad. DONT TAKE HIM
A very lazy, strict teacher. lol, I got a 89.7, and asked him if he'd round up like he'd said he would do at the beginning of the class. He said something about giving the class extra credit so he'd decided not to curve up one point. Needless to say, I was kinda ticked but I held my tongue. NOT RECOMMENDED.
I had to drop this class cuz I couldn't take the credit load, but I tried to attend class anyway. For those times that I was awake, I found him to be nice, FAST in teaching (remember mth166 is mth163+164) and helpful. It did get boring, but thats not his problem. I recommend him for mth166, don't slack off in hw!
I took MTH 163 in the six week session in the summer. Fitting this class in six weeks is tough so be prepared to do a lot of homework and studying. He is a fair teacher and is willing to hold help sessions before class to go over homework problems that you need assistance with. Overall if you study and do your homework you should be fine.
3 Exams, totals 400 pts. 2 mid-term = 100 each, 1 Final = 200 pts. Ex psychotic military drop-out from the U.S.M.C. If you don't already have a bachelors in mth, then you will get an F or the best will be an C even if you try your best! He's insane! He's mean! He's like the father that you'd wish you'd never had! His passion is to see you fail!!
1/2 the class failed both the 1st and 2nd exam. He treats us like we're his kids at home. He's mean, controlling, rude, and very demanding. His passion is to see you suffer and struggle in life. He doesn't believe in helping students do better in class. He teaches you as if you already have a M.D. in mth. He's the GRINCH who stole Christmas!!!
BEWARE, you WILL fail. Get's frustrated when doesn't know how to do a problem or does something wrong, confusing & arrogant. Believes his words are written in stone. No office hours during the summer cuz he doesn't want to stay after and help. Was late for help sessions at our expense. Lame. Don't take HIM! You've been warned.
Professor Stark is a great teacher. I am really amazed when i see all the bad comment from other students. the truth is that he is very helpful, knowledgeable, and fair on grade. do your homework and follow what he says, if you want to pass his class. over all i recommend him to any student who wants to learn about MATH at ALL. Rem.DO YOUR HW perio
lie lie lie he is the best teacher in nova. he cares and spend lots of time to explain for student but unfurtunatly some of student are lazy and just want to pass. he is the best if you want to learn math and he try to accomadate every person in class.hay guys just do your homework and it is going to be a easy test for you.heis a wonderful teacher
He's very knowledgeable and willing to help everyone if you ask him questions. Offer Helps sessions too, but I didn't find his method of teaching that useful, he heavily on txtbook and txt is a must. Gosh he's such a hard grader and wants u to write everything even a simply multipication. But still I would recommend him, I got an "A" and he's nice
Please don't take him. You will be sorry if you stay in his class. He will treat you like if you were his friend with no respect. Stark fail half of the class. No one will pass his class at least you are 100 percent great and professional doing math and no mistakes because he will not give any extra points even if he promessed the fist day of class
I took precalc with this professor because of what I read on here about how he is extremely helpful. While he does make a lot of time outside of class to help students, it's like putting a BandAid on a stab wound because his in-class teaching is so erratic. He is patronizing and impatient. Really harsh grader. I regret taking this class with him.
He is probably one of the worst teachers I've ever encountered. He has no creativity or alternate way of explaining what he's attempting to teach. While I generally don't hold to the old adage about "those who can, do and those who can't, teach." This was written about this professor. Sadly, there seems to be no "teaching" going on here.
I can't believe this professor got such good reviews. He's very unorganized. He throws the material at you. He assigns homework from the book then works the problem a different way in class and takes off points if you do the problem the way you learned from the book instead of his way. I never want to take another class from him again.
Prof Stark is not bad the way some says. I agree with some of students who said that he goes through lessons very fast in class, but remember he has to cover a sylabuss! He is the only professor I have seen at NOVA who has more office hours for students. His help sessions are really good. Take advantage of it and you will get a good grade for sure!
Although he can be a bit arrogant and condescending he cracked me up all semester long, *Looks like Uncle Phil from fresh prince*, relatively fair teacher and is very knowledgeable. If you have a pulse and aren't a complete dolt you should have no problems passing his class.
One of the best math teachers i've had. He is willing to work with his students and gives them multiple chances to pass his course.
Always running behind schedule but is dedicated to his students. Tests are 10 problems long, homework is never checked but do it because test problems are VERY similar. Go to class, many tests questions come from in class examples.
professor stark is dedicated teacher and spend lots of time out of class to help you.his lectures are crystal clear and he cares for his student.although subject is very hard but he make the lessons easy to undrestand.if you want to get A just do your homework and practice.he is fare and he gave you lots of chances to pass the class but you have t
he is one of the best professor that this college has.he is always spend his time to help you undrestand the material.but you have to work realy hard to get an A in this class. i am taking my third class in math with him.
He is the best Math Teacher ever!. He helps all students, and gives you a lot of oportunities to do well in class. If you pay attention and do your homework you'll do well in his class. His lectures are very clear and he's always available to answer any questions.
he is just the best.the class is not easy but he makes it easy and as long as you do your share of practicing, you will not have any problem getting an good grade.for lazy students!do not get this class.
If your a Slow learner in math than he is not your teacher. I've always had problems in Math and With Mr. Stark going through the material so quickly it didnt help.
He is a big ol teddy bear that says 1 as "want". You must attend class, do your hw, and DON'T BE LAZY. He is very helpful especially if he sees you putting the effort in. He is strict but nice at the same time.
Hardest teacher ever! Most of the students dropped the class. If you want an easy F then take him! He does not want to see students getting a good grade. That's the truth.
Great Teacher!
Took him for calculus, and had an awful time. He always seemed disorganized (he would jump back to problems he had already completed and change them because he "forgot to show us a couple steps"). His grading was pretty harsh too (he grades from the top down: the first step you miss, the rest is automatically wrong). Took the class with another instructor in Annandale and had a much better teacher.
Even though he has so many rules when it comes to the exams, he basically cuts points for a lil tiny mistake. For example, he cuts points off because i put the area outside the graph. but anyway his exams are very easy. cuz they are from the homework which was assigned.
I stongly recommend this professor. If you do your home work as he always says in the class, you are sure to get an A. I took 166 and 271 with him and I got an "A". Just one thing.. if you are a lazy one and looking for easy A, then this is not the class for you. Of course, math 271 is hard, so you have to work hard too. Prof. Stark will go out of
I am the one who rated earlier and wants to continue. Another thing is that Prof. Stark will go out of his way to help students if he knows that you are hard working. He has more office hours than any professor at NOVA. Prof. Stark can look very rude and strick, but the truth is he is not,he has a very good heart. Take his class.
Very disorganized. His lectures are dry and hard to follow as he forgets steps and puts little creative effort into them. Probably not the worst teacher ever, but I did not enjoy his class.
He was awesome. He is very easy to understand, extremely fair, and very helpful. If your taking any math class, take his courses. I took all my calc and stats with him.
Best Instructor i have had in Mathematics, a bunch of kids complained because they dont do their homework. But the teacher, excellent.
he is the best professor i have ever met in my life... he is so helpful and he always wanted to do anything to help his students to pass...
He is amazing teacher; very helpful...
He is the worst, I wish I could get my money back. I think I forgot more material then learning in that class. He makes things really hard and does not even know what he is talking about half of the time.
1. The text book is completely useless. I often found myself referring to other books because this one is too vague and disconnected. 2. The professor is a hard grader. Beware. Don't miss a step. Don't miss a decimal place..or you will get a zero..and that's huge when the test only has 5 qs. It seems either u like this professor or you don't lik
continued from below..If you do not do all the assigned homework for the class you will not pass the class- and the professor stresses this. He is always willing to help students however long it takes. The class is basically two courses (Precalc and Trig) squeezed into one semester hence the speed. Expect to work hard and you will be ok.
Great teacher if you do the homework you will get an A on the tests he doesn't give out any quizzes and homework is optional if you do the home work you will pass the class it is that simple
He's really a nice prof. His bark is worse than his bite. He's very fair, easy tests, gives some ex. credit, and will take the time to reteach concepts during his office hours if you're having trouble. Follow his instructions exactly, as far as how you present information on the exams; he's very particular about this. I'd definitely take him again.
He is the most hardworking professor i've ever seen. He is an excellent teacher except that he would do anything to find an error to give you "zero". I did all the homeworks and spent most of my time on his class but i wasn't happy. It is easy to get "F" on this class because if you make to errors on the exam you lose 40 points.
If you want to learn math take him. in order to pass the class you have to show him that you are serious about the class, attend and do your homework..
Professor Stark is as good as it gets. He is down to earth, knowledgeable and able to relate his knowledge. This course, Precalculus+Trig is stuffed with topics to the max. You will need to work hard! With Professor Stark, you will leave with all the tools you need for Calculus.
Highly recommend him. He is a wonderful teacher; he's willing to help you down to the earth. If you attend the class, do your home work, you get good grade. He explains everything clearly and slowly. Makes sure asks questions if you are lost.
He is really good and helpful. explains everything really well and repeats it many times until you get it. however, you need to do the homework not because he checks it but because that's how you'll learn. he will always help you (office hours). he is strict on his tests but they are not too difficult. THE BEST PROF EVER...
I took both math 163,271 and I got A for both of them. He is really helpful, in his class you really will learn math. Also he helps you to get a good grate highly recommended
You'll learn more working on your own.
DISORGANIZED...His grading policy is unconventional to say the least...you are better off learning the material on your own..
Professor Stark is the best teacher I ever had. He is very helpfull. he explained very well and clearly. All the tests are from the homework.just do your homework, and you will get an A. If you don't know how to do your homework, just ask him to meet after class, and he will help you. If you are willing to work and learn, take his class.
Amazing professor! I took MTH 271 aka Applied Calculus I with him this summer: 3 Exams, Attendance Mandatory, HW should be done, In-class notes extremely helpful, and extra credit offered on the exams. No quizzes. Getting an A in this class was really simple, because if you attend the lectures, do the hw, and take good notes you're all set.
Highly recommend. keeps repeating until you get it. exams are easy. gives three similar questions to learn on exam. do homework, pay attention and you will get an A.
This guy is amazing! Old dude! but amazing teacher. He will give u homeworks but he wont check it. Do his homeworks and you u get a at least a B. Pay attention in class, you'll get A. He is very clear but since in took 8 week class it was very fast and i had to spend more time in Tutoring center. Overall an A standard teacher!
Great teacher. All you need to do is listen to what he is saying and do the home woks, you will get an A. if you are a genius is math, you should consider not taking this professor because he repeats everything a lot and sometimes its frustrating. But if you are not good at math, he is the best teacher.
Great teacher, although you have to pay attention to pass exams.
Great Professor, He loves math and if you take his you will definitely love maths too. If you wanna pass the class with A do the homework :)
Prof. Stark is very wonderful. I enjoyed his class. The class is not easy, but he did the best he could to make it easy.
Professor Stark is a wonderful teacher. He teaches his class seriously. He will try to do anything to give his students chances to pass the class. He will give 3 similar questions with the real test before the test. All you need to do is to study and will easily get an A. I got 3 big A and I understand math well now. I will take his class again.
He makes things easy to understand, however, he does not grade fairly. The teacher wants everything "his way" and if you know anything about math there are a ton of ways to get to the same answer. I got every answer right on the 3 exams and never got an A. If you want to learn but dont care about your grade take him, if you do care look elsewhere.
Great teacher knows what he's teaching and how to teach it. But not an easy grader. he expects you to answer his tests the same way he writes his notes. you could get to the correct answer but if not his way you dont get the grade.plus basing your class grade on 3-4 tests only doesn't help.
Pr. Stark is fantastic at explaining a difficult subject, but he makes things extremely complicated and is never organized. He tells you one thing, and then changes plans last minute, leaving you badly unprepared. He tells you he will give you study guides for the exams that are specific, and then they are vague. Very difficult course, hard grader.
Very good professor, organize, very helpful. Do his homework (he doesn't collect HW, by doing it helps a lot), take good notes and STUDY you will pass with an A! He is also available during his office hours if you extra need help. Even gave out extra credit.
Pedantic, demanding and horribly redundant. If you consider yourself an intuitive learner, avoid Stark's class. Popular opinion is not a measure of quality- this prof. is favored by students who need to be told what to do (without the why) in a speaking voice that rarely falls below moderate yelling. Truly an inept educator.
He definitely knows the subject matter, and is good at explaining concepts. He can be a little abrasive, he isn't always prepared for class, and he's very meticulous about grading, but I learned a lot. One of the higher quality instructors I've had at NVCC.
He's a good teacher. He's very methodical and by-the-book with how he teaches during lectures...so don't expect anything exciting. But, he gets the point across and breaks things down into simple steps. Go to his office hours if you are confused, he's very kind and will help you understand the material. He is a very tough grader, though.
Professor Stark has made the course very managable. He teaches by the book but he explains each problem step by step. He also repeats much, which makes it easy to follow. He does want us to work out the problems in specific ways but as long as you follow his steps you should'nt have many problems. He is a great Math professor! Definitely recommend.
The best math professor he is really good and helps you a lot. I enjoyed his classroom and got an A. If you study and do the HW you should be fine. Plus, he gives 5 question on the exam and tells you what the 3 questions are. The other two are from the HW.
Good teacher. But if you miss class too often he will totally, and utterly, merciless
People, People, I will tell you now that Mr. Stark is a great teacher. Now because this is math you will definitely have to study. I would advise you now not to skip his class because he does take attendance, and those attendance points work towards your final overall grade. Through the semester he gives you three exams and then a final. He drops your lowest one, but lets say you bomb all the tests. If you have shown up to ALL, and I repeat ALL classes then he could help you pass the course with a C. If you missed more than two days he's going to tell you to hang it up because he will be completely and utterly MERCILOUS. While your dreading a bad grade he's going to go home and sleep like a baby. Put in the effort and he looks out for you.
Stark gives you until the LAST NANOSECOND to pass his class If you fail all 3 test he will let you pass the class as long as you get a C or higher in the final. However he only does this if you have great attendance. If your attendance is poor Stark turns into Ming the Merciless from the Flash Gordon movies and will show NO MERCY and fail you
People people people Ima tell you this once If he see you have an excessive number of absences he is going to be Merciless. A C is 280 and you got a 279 and you have an excessive number of absences, then he will give you the D and sleep like a baby. Maybe on planet Mundo you will get that C. Do the homework for this section.
Love. Him. Calculus 2 is not an easy class, so there's no way I'm going to say he was an easy teacher, but he does make it understandable. He doesn't give many tests so you really can't screw up much, but all his tests are very closely based on homework. He also gives you 3 out of 5 problems to study before the test. Very helpful after class as wel
Mr. Stark grades your work well as long as it seems like you have an understanding. He means it when he say you have until the last minute to pass his class!
He gives you 3/5 of the test questions, and alot of the final, was previous test questions. He isn't a bad professor if you do what is asked of him. He even gave people extra points on the first and second test. Also if you have very little abscences he will curve your grade so take him if you don't mind working!
Easiest professor. Just follow his instructions and you will pass the class. If you do the class and home work you will pass it with an A. Taking him for calculus for sure.
AS LONG AS YOU FOCUS IN CLASS AND DONT CHAT A LOT,YOU WILL BE FINE. HIS TESTS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN OTHER MATH PROFESSORS. HE DOESN'T GIVE EXTRA CREDIT BUT HE IS THERE TO HELP.
I took Calculus with Professor Stark a couple of years ago. He repeats things a lot and I have found since leaving his class that I remember much of what he said. He definitely knows the material and I learned a lot from him. I would recommend him.
Definitely don't take the 6 week course. I don't know how the regular semester classes are but if you want to fail quick then take the 6 week course.
So professor Stark does not grade hw, however he doe give you a list of hw assignments and I recommend doing them all. His exams literally come straight off the list of hw assignements he gives out. His final is also the 1st 2 exams combined. You do have to study though because pre calc is not an easy subject.
Just follow his rules and get an A . No homework needed.
It was an easy A. No homework
He is very good explaining the material (even goes over stuff u should already know but forgot). He normally gives you the test questions to study b4 the test which is good. I missed one class and went on vacay b4 a test which caused me to fail a test so make sure to study what he gives you for a couple days. Other than that, great professor!
He really cares that his student passes. If math is not your strongest point choose him as your professor. He gives tons of examples in class and assigns homework problems that will help during exams. There is no way to fail this class if you attend class, do the homework he assigns, and practice the problems. Really recommend him. A++ professor.
My dream professor came at the right place and at the right time. I was wishing to have equivalent instructor. I can't say it enough. God bless him. I totally recommend him. Other might say he repeat a lot, but he cares about you. So, he teach you and for the first time you defiantly will feel student going to class. You do stuff to teach your self
He is the last stop for those who don't have maths back. He is really, really super man. He is the Best professor for those who are mathematically crible. I got "B" because of my own stupidity. I never review my notes till 30 minutes to each exams. I will take 174 with him next semester. I missed "Big huge captal letters"!!!! I really like him.
Like stated before, he's a professor you want to take if you just want to pass the class. Very strict grading, wants everything done his way on test and every step shown. EVERY. He has a bunch of 'oh crap!' moments and he only works the practice problems. He will be very lenient if you have perfect attendance.
Not sure why he has such a good rating, he is unorganized and very confusing in explaining his work. He uploaded the syllabus the day before class and expected all 50 of his students to already have the textbook. It honestly looks like he rates himself on here since all of these comments are verbatum to his syllabus. Wouldn't be surprised.
Whats up with all these good reviews? He's an example of what a professor is not. If you want stress the entire semester take him. Very easy to fail his class even if you do the work. Organization would have been nice. I would give him a 0 rating if I could.
He is rude!
He's a strict grader in that he wants to see the steps you used, but he wants you to succeed. Doesn't grade the homework, but will go over it with you in his office hours. Make sure you understand test and quiz grading or you'll likely miss small details. if you have any time to go to the Success Center, Stark and them compliment well for 166.
1st off, come to class b/c if you're in between grades that will help but not mandatory. Hw isn't graded but you should do it. 4 exam w/ lowest dropped & credit for just trying them. Never makes you feel dumb &answers all questions you have, does repeat himself a lot. He is a great professor, I'm currently searching for his classes to take again.
You have 3 tests (2 worth 100 points and 5 questions each and then the final exam is 200 points which is cumulative and 10 questions.) Hes a little annoying but helpful when it comes to math. He gives 3 ques to study out of 5 for eachtest and extra credit for each tests. He doesn't like talking in his class. Take him he's better than most.
He will stress you the entire semester, however, he explains everything clearly what he is looking for in the exam. Not bad at all but if you want easy A look for another professor
I studied so hard for this class. I did all the chapter hw's, which at times was 40 or some problems and had a study session which consisted of 6 hours with classmates. And I got a 60 on the exam. You will need to buy the book and will need to study a lot. 4 exams with 5 sections covered in each. Each exam has five questions. He drops one exam
Advice... Do not take this guy!!! He has a "my way or the highway attitude" 4 exams and he drops one. No homework, but if you miss an equal sign or don't follow the order he tells you, he will take points. Do not take this guy... not worth it. I got most of my quizzes right and only got a "C".
If math is not your strong suite, I would steer away from this professor. The grading scale is based on three tests (5 questions each) and one final exam. Lowest test is dropped, final is cumulative. This professor is anal about minuscule things, and doesn't show much interest in helping his students. Very condescending. Gets frustrated easily.
most students do not want to come to class, yet they want to get an A. Well with Professor stark it is different. He need you in class after-all that how you learn right! He gives extra credits and a study guide. Four exams and he drops your lowest. Follow what he asks you to do and you will get an A. Its that easy. He makes the class real easy.
Mr Stark gives 3 tests and a final. He drops the worst test grade and adds up the final for your class grade. Each class is lecture heavy but he makes sure you understand the material without any confusion as he goes by the textbook but in his own way. The homework is not graded but is very helpful for practicing and remembering the material.
Great professor, i would take his class again. He repeats himself a lot, which to me it helped. Attendance is a must to his class. He does give a lot of homework BUT it is no graded or being checked. How much work you put in, that is the grade you will get. 3 test and the final. Final consist of those previous test.
2nd time taking him. He's very clear from the beginning, just follow directions. He's a tough grader, you either solve the problems in the exam exactly how he shows you in class or he takes points away. Don't skip any test, he doesn't do make ups. If you can't afford the book, let him know he'll give you a solution.3 exams, drops the lowest, & 1 final
This professor was the greatest professor that i ever found in Alexandria campus. He gives lots of homework but he don't grade them. He grade only tests. The test when he gives you, he will give 5 questions in the test three he will tells you which one will come and 2 questions will come from homework. He is very nice and can help during office hr
great prof, difficult course planning to take him for 173 also
very straight forward, helpful prof, I am taking 271 with him again, if you come to class and do your homework and study for the exam, easy A..
This is what I would really call an easy A class.
Prof Stark is a legend. He loves math and is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. He is hilarious and is very kind to his students by remembering their names and giving office hours. His exams are not easy but he gives you a heads up on what its on. He also goes over homework fast so make sure to go to his office hours to clarify which he does
Great professor would definitely take him again in 173 n 174
Overall I can say hes a great profesor, I took him this spring semester . Hes so hilarious, at the beginning he didnt know how to pronounce my last name. I used to correct him all the time. They key in this class is STUDY!! I wasnt doing it at the beginning, but I had no other choice then studying at the end.
MTH271 8w Spring 2018 -- Professor Stark is a good professor, but a tough grader. You have to do the problems EXACTLY how he tells you to or else get a bad grade. It's easy IF you can follow along. Don't miss class. 8week has two 5 question exams (100p each) and then a 10 question final (200p). 30 extra credit quizzes. Make friends to study with!
He is great Prof, you just need to do the work he gives on time .
It is important to be in every class as his lectures are based on every test. The test questions come straight form the lectures and he even gives you 2 quesitons out of the 5 in every test. 3 tests in total and drops the lowest. The final is based on test questions. Homework is not graded but very useful and important for practice.
TAKE HIS CLASS! I took precalc, calc 1,2and 3 with different Pro who have the highest rate on this page, but pro. Lawrence is the best. Reasons 1, he focuses on the materials that u use on ur future mth classes. 2, he covers in detail and easy way. 3, focused on exam q. 4, 40% -60% exam q are given. 5, 5% -15% extra credit. if u do well easy AorB.
This guy is serious about his business. Don't be the class clown. If you do he will make you rethink your existence. Do your homework. You're gonna hear that again. No retakes. You'll hear that again too. He will repeat himself many times so if you fail it's your fault. He has good humor but he won't take BS. When I took this class it was MTH 173.
He tells you what will be on the test. If you suck at math, take him. If you are good at math then take him as well. Calc is hard but because he tells u in the lecture (thats why u cant skip class lecture is very important) what he will give on the test. Just study what he tells u and you will guaranteed pass. Trust me, take him for an easy B.
Great professor.
"Now people, if you don't do it the way I tell you, I'm not giving you a zero" -Professor Stark He tells you exactly what to do. If you have a pulse you pass. Don't let his stren approach bug you, it actually becomes funny as the class progresses. Overall he was a good professor. No tricks just do it how he says to. No tiny writing allow lol.
Professor Stark has his own style of teaching. He asks for test to be in a certain manner that may be difficult to others. If you really pay attention, take notes, and ask questions then you will pass. He takes his time to explain something to you if you don't understand something. Professor Stark makes it very simple to learn the subject.
Prof. Stark tells you EXACTLY how he wants you to answer question on the exam. Do it any other way and he deducts points. He goes over only what is necessary to move forward to calculus. class MTH 167 consists of 4 exams (3, and a final) he drops the lowest grade of the 3. I would take again. Again, do EXACTLY what he tells you and you will pass.
He gives you the test questions. Easy A
He gives you test questions that will be on the exam which is helpful you just have to make sure you study them. He does give homework sheets but its mostly for your practice as he never checks them. As long as you do it his way youll be fine!
3 100 point exams 5 questions each, and 1 200 point final 10 questions - drop the lowest 100 point exam and that's your grade. He gives ideas of what will be on the exams, but you need to practice a lot for them. He can get confused at times, writes wrong stuff on the board, but he is honestly pretty easy considering what could've been the course.
This professor is THE WORST. He stays on the same topic for multiple classes without a fail, him taking his sweet time caused the class schedule time to change, and we had to take our early November test in December; a class before our final. So if you do take him you are risking stress to take a test and the final during the same week. BAD PROF.
Professor Stark repeats a lot of material, which is good in some ways but takes a lot of class time. We were very behind schedule, but he only tested our class on the stuff that we covered in class. He literally gives you the test and final exam questions for study guides, and he gives partial credit too. Math isn't easy so it's not an easy A.
Pros - No homework - 3 Quiz (Drops your lowest grade) - Provides you with 3 out of 5 questions on the quizzes - Simple final test (10 questions) - Quite accessible outside of class Cons - Repeats & Repeats - Aleks (Get it done as soon as possible) - WRITE IN BIG LETTERS (Takes more time) - Must show all steps - Must solve the problem his way
Mr. Lawrence Class couldn't be more easier that what it was, if you want an easy A get in his class you wont regret it. He is good and will repeat you the process on how to get the work done.
I love this professor he is so nice and caring, if u don't understand he will repeat it so many times so u get what he is saying. We do have homework but he never collects them or grade them it is just for understanding. He tells u what we have on the test his tests are so easy and they are the only thing counted for grading and it is open book
Rest in peace Professor Lawrence, he passed away on November 22nd, 2020. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to know you.
I had him for this past semester, before he unexpectedly passed away. He was the greatest professor Ive ever had. Hed alway tell you the why in things. Math 167 was a Engineering course and hed explain how the math we learned would transition onto engineering or related field. His impact on my life will always be remembered. - Ilyas Hamidzada
I was so lucky to have had the chance to take Prof Stark. He was the most funniest and caring teacher i have had at nova and it was emotional to hear what happened. He was a very easy teacher for me and I learned SO MUCH from his class. I will continue to carry on his passion for math forever! So glad to have had him as a teacher :)
I took his math 266 class during the pandemic in fall 2020 semester. I was not honored to meet professor Stark in person. Great professor, great personality! Caring and knowledgeable! We were never able to finish this course because he passed away! Rest in peace great man, I will never forget your hard work and kind heart
Professor Stark was an absolute legend! He was very patient and really cared for his students, he wanted to make sure you actually learned the material before moving on. No homework, no quizzes, just 2 exams & 1 final. I had signed up to take him for next semester as well but unfortunately he unexpectedly passed away. God bless him, he was amazing
Professor Stark was an amazing Teacher he will be missed! Greatest teacher I ever had at NOVA :(
This guy moves a little slow but he makes it super clear on what he wants done. This class personally was an easy A. Trust me, take his class. He's a little boring but he's clear if you just sit through. He throws in some jokes here and there and he gives a break during class. Webassign assignments!
I took MATH 167 back in 2019. It was rough, but Prof. Stark got us through it. He is a stickler for doing things by the book, step by step. It reinforces good habits and pays off if you practice. Pretty much all of your grade comes from exams, so practice what he tells you to.
I took 3 classes with Stark while at nova. My mom also had a few classes with him in the past. Hard material, but if you paid attention and took notes, his lectures set you up for success. Extremely saddened to hear about his passing, he was a great professor and very well respected. Rest in piece man, thanks for making math less painful for us.
