Dr.Stark seems to be a good teacher, but his delivery of the subject leaves the class bored and unresponsive. Long lectures and very little class involvement.
avoid this teacher. he is by far the worst teacher I've had at OCC. the assignments are vague, the reading has no structure, and the paper he assigned is completely irrelevant to the material in class. extremely unhelpful. do yourself a favor and take philosophy with another teacher.
Ethics Winter 09 - stay away from this guy, more than half the class dropped out, only 10 people made it. It is my 3rd year of college and this guy is the worst professor I ever had. I studied a lot and only managed to get C grade, test and quizzes are hard. Do yourself a favor and find another instructor.
Seems like a nice enough guy, definetely knows his material. The lectures are just long and tedious, and it's easy to get lost. Quiz and tests are okay as long as you follow the reading and class discussions.
difficult, but he knows his subject. teaches on a different level. be advised, this is not an easy class.
I was really excited to take this class. Unfortunately, Dr. Stark made me lose any interest I had in philosophy. The class was Introduction to Philosophy but it would definitely be helpful to have some knowledge pertaining to the subject beforehand. Quizzes every week; don't be late. READ EVERYTHING in the chapters! Take with another professor.
Dr. Stark is has a different style of lecturing, he is quite hard to understand but once you get him, it all starts to make sense. Tests on everything he says in class, must read chapters 3x to get at least a B in the class, this class was pretty difficult and if you dont want to read and comprehend than take another professor!
He is a Terrible teacher, The worst I've ever had. more than 1/2 the class has dropped it and those that haven't only stay for the quiz and leave because he make no sense to listen to. He needs to not be teaching and in a room alone some where. AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
Hes a good teacher for those who want to learn abstract ideas. It is a college class so it will be hard but is definitily worth it.
while his class may be dull, he's a great professor. I barely studied for the class and pulled off a B+. He can be bland at times, but he really wants students to do well. I sought help during his office hours and he was incredibly receptive. if you don't mind 3 hours of straight lectures, you can actually learn a lot from Stark.
His intro to logic was much more interesting than his intro to philosophy. He genuinely cares about his students, but he responds better to people who are willing to work. The quizzes are easy points, as long as you read, and I've heard mixed reviews on helpfulness in office hours. I had a good experience, but I know about 3/4 of my class dropped.
Avoid him at all costs. After taking ethics with Stark, I will never take another philosophy class. There are multiple readings every week, some of which are 22 pages or more. There are quizzes every other week with impossible wording and two 30-piont essays on each. He is unfair and follows quotas. No more than 3 ppl will receive an A guaranteed.
The negative comments here are pretty clearly from lazy, disinterested, or self-entitled students who expect a free ride. Yes, you actually have to show a pulse in the class and (gasp!) think for yourself! I felt like I learned a lot from him and wound up enjoying the class quite a bit, but I made sure I did the readings and invested in the course.
Dr. Stark was a really great professor. He always made sure everyone understood the concepts before moving on. There are 5 tests in the class and a paper worth 10% of your grade. As long as you show up to class and put in a little bit of effort, you will pass this class.
I thought he was a very intelligent, nice man, and thought it was really hilarious how he would throw out a joke & no one would laugh. Anyways, the tests can be rather challenging, so show up to every class, pay close attention, and READ the chapters! Not easy, but not impossible. Much prefer him over Oxley, who's logic class I failed previously.
Prof. Stark kept what I thought would be a boring subject interesting. I enjoyed the lectures and didn't feel that it was difficult if you showed up with half an inkling to learn.
I had Professor Stark for a teacher during his New Paltz days. He knows the material well, and is eager to present it. If you're looking for an easy class, go elsewhere, as expectations are high. Put in some work, on the other hand, and you may find you like him. And you may also find that you can handle more than you originally thought.
He is a very good professor. Dry jokes but.. if you do the work you'll do well. I would definitely take another course with him. Helpful when asked.
The spring semester was my second with this professor, and it was another positive experience. Yes, you have to have an investment in the class to be successful, but why else would I be taking a course if not to work?
I found Dr. Stark to be extremely helpful and approachable. As long as you're willing to do the work for the class, you won't have any problems. He plainly demonstrates strong knowledge of the material and was very open to any questions I ever presented. Would definitely take more classes with him. If you make any effort at all you'll do great.
Great Professor, just do the work and you will do fine!
Dr. Stark definitely has a mind for philosophy and is great at teaching it. He is always willing to help out those who have trouble with the subject and is very approachable. Of course you have to try in his class...that's one of the things that makes him so great. He's a real professor looking to educate real students. He made me love philosophy.
He loves the Matrix. If you like the Matrix, you will like his class. He's the red pill.
He loves the Matrix. If you do too, you will love the class. He's the red pill.
An excellent teacher if you are going to class to learn. No easy ride here but was always available when a little extra was needed. I would definetly attend another class with him.
Enjoyed Logic Class w/Professor Stark even though I thought I wouldn't. He made it interesting and fun and seems to care about the students.
Dr. Stark is a very deep thinker. He has a deep philosophical mind. You won't look at life the same way again, guaranteed. The quizzes are only hard if you just blow off the reading.
A good challenge, but fair.
Is willing to take time to answer questions but could be clearer in explanations and moves more quickly than most people can handle for lectures using Powerpoint. He seems to care very much for students and is willing to take feedback. His class discussions are extremely interesting and fun. The reading is very difficult but managable.
Professor Star is a very smart prof. His class involvesw some effort, but its worth it.
Excellent, excellent teacher. I would recommend him to anyone! He is very fair (a LOT of his test questions come from the book and he has a fairly simple quiz every week to keep you on task with the chapters. Keeps you interested, and he has little witty jokes here if you are paying attention. Great stories to tell as well!
The tests are pretty easy if you take notes from the lecture. However, he is definitely repetitive and there is no need for his class to be three hours long every week. He's a little pretentious, but if you attend every class you can do well.
Great Professor! If you have any interest in philosophy - take his class. Very helpful and fair.
Dr Stark is very passionate about philosophy. He's very strange and a tends to drift off at times but he's always willing to help. It's very hard to do well in the class if you do not show up, there are graded quizzes and group works almost every week.
Dr. Stark is a very smart and interesting man. He knows what he is talking about and always allows for questions. He will make sure something is understood before moving on and offers his time outside of class if needed. He will, treat a student as a peer and is very easy going. Test material is very clear if you pay attention and participate.
Stay on top of readings, complete all assignments, and attend the study sessions they really help! Dr. Stark is extremely knowledgable about the subject and is more than willing to help.
I took Philosophy Ethics with Stark and loved it. I came into the class as a curious student and left with much knowledge and a slightly different perspective on life overall. Stark is extremely helpful and very knowledgable about what he's discussing. Exams are not bad, just study. I would recommend this class and professor to anyone.
Stark is one of the best profs at OCC. He will change your perspective. Class is not hard if you do some of the reading, the study guides, and go to study group prior to exams - the material is interesting and easy to remember. He is a great professor and I wish all professors taught like him. I am currently in his Logic class right now! Love him.
A great professor, very knowledgable about the subject and has very fair tests
I have taken all three of his classes (Ethics, Informal Logic, and Intro to Philiosopy) and i would recommend this professor to anyone. Easily the best professor i have ever had to date.
Stark is an awful professor. He comes to class each day with no interest in provoking the class to learn. He goes through the dull, drab motions of each pre-scripted power point that he has, for no doubt, used for many years. The class is paced for snails, and the lack of debate/discussion lead by the professor creates a mundane, lackluster class.
Really good professor and nice guy too. You can tell that he lives his philosophy. Show some interest and do the readings and you'll do well. The study guides he gives out really help.
Stark knows his philosophy. He is a good teacher who cares about his students. He doesn't preach his own beliefs. +1 on the study guides.
He seems cool at first, but the way of running his class is very unfair. Morals are suppose to be opinion. And it is, but if it's not his opinion it is not right. It is never good enough for him. And he never gives more than one example, if you don't understand something he just repeats the same thing over and over again. Very unfair guy.
Dr. Stark is easily one of the best professor at OCC. He knows philosophy and takes it very seriously. He relates a lot of the class to The Matrix, and after taking this class, I saw the Matrix in a whle other way. Definitely take his class.
He knows his philosophy. He cares about his students and he gives study guides which are quite helpful. Very organized. I would take another class with him.
Stark's class is a good one. There are no surprises. If you do the readings and know all the material on the study guides, you'll do well.
Excellent teacher! He teaches the material that you will be quizzed and tested on. If you do the reading, show up to class, take advantage of the study sessions to get all the correct answers for your study guides & study them there is no doubt you can get an A in his class! You may need your English skills to write a paper but GREAT CLASS!!!
a good guy who is very respectful to students, but sometimes i felt like his lectures seriously beat a dead horse back to life. as long as you show up and pay attention, you'll do fine. didn't buy the book and didn't do any of the online reading--he goes over all of it prior to any quizzes.
didn't think i would like ethic, but the class turned out to be very interesting. he was very respectful when I went to talk with him about my paper on adultery. he is very thorough in going over things, so that helped. will take his logic class next. he lives his philosophy
Best professor I've had. I took all of his classes because I became so interested in philosophy aftery intro class. I really appreciated all of the help he offered as well. I wish he had more classes I could take.
The best way to describe Stark is fair. I'd say he is fair because there are no curveballs on the exams, his study guides are clear cut. He has 10 point quizzes which are based on lecture and some reading. He makes time to meet out of class which is nice. Overall he is a very peculiar(sometimes in a funny way) man who knows a lot about philosophy.
Professor Stark is has been my favorite teacher! I've taken all of his philosophy classes and loved every one. Yes, there is all ways a lot of info. But he explains it well, and is more than willing to help. The homework load is medium but hes a nice grader. Id pick his class for philosophy over any other professor.
His lectures are EXTREMELY LONG. The material is okay, but he gives you a quiz after every class, so if you don't grasp the concept in class good luck on the quiz (which can be pretty wordy). You have to read, because he will not cover all the ideas that are on the quiz in class. I would not recommend him. The class is passable but frustrating
He breaks everything down for you and helps you see how this relates for real life. Very nice professor who wants to help you learn. Would take again.
Took the class for ge. His class turned out to be very interesting and it was better that I thought it would be. He related the class material it was like analyzing everyday life. Would take him again.
Highly recommend this class. Prof. Stark connects the ideas of philosophy to everyday life. He is very courteous to students and encourages discussion.
I am a graduate student in philosophy now. I took my first philosophy class with Dr. Stark. He is an excellent professor. Philosophy is very important to him and he wants to help you learn. He gives study guides which lay out what he thinks is important. He talks about the Matrix a lot in class and shows you how deep it really is. Recommended.
Dr. Stark is a phenomenal professor. He's not easy by any means, but honestly, if you do the work and participate in class discussions, you'll be fine. I recommend at least skimming through the readings before class. There is a quiz at the end of each class so make sure you pay attention to his lectures! One of my favorite professors yet.
I really enjoyed Dr. Stark's class. His lectures last the full three hours, but they aren't tedious, and it flies by. He is a funny, laid back, willing to help you out kind of professor, and I would take a class with him again. Do the non-mandatory exercises he assigns from the back of the book, and you will most likely pass.
Very nice teacher, one of the good ones at this campus. You defiantly can tell he cares about his students. I would defiantly do the homework, although not collected because it is like studying for this class.
Best prof I've had, hands down. I wish all my instructors taught the way he does; you know exactly what is expected of you on the first day of class, and he gives great and interesting lectures. Plenty of opportunity to ask questions if you don't get something--challenging but not hard. If you don't do well, you're seriously doing something wrong.
Dr. Stark is the best professor I've had so far. He gives very interesting lectures that encourage the class to give input, and quizzes/exams are right from his lectures so if you take light notes and pay attention, you can easily pass. A shining role model for all professors in my opinion, doesn't try to trip you up and wants you to succeed.
Funny man, amazing professor. Straight to the point with everything he teaches, test are his exact words from lecture. You only need to read assigned readings, study notes, and pay attention to easily pass. His only downside is that his handwriting is terrible, so reading his critique on essays is hard. I wish all professors at occ were like him
Amazing teacher, was great in class making ideas relevant and so I understandable. I would love to have him again!
Great professor down to earth, and understanding. Lectures are easy to understand if u complete the instructed reading. Before every quiz there are group discussions! By far one of the best professors Ive encountered at Occ.
Amazing Professor. He is lecture heavy, but answers all questions that are asked.. He is very knowledgeable and will encourage anyone having trouble with the class to meet with him outside of class or reach out to him through email..
Pros- his class is a breeze, grades quickly during semester, can be funny, everything on notes is on quizzes and everything on quizzes is on exams (exact questions), drops three lowest quiz grades Cons- he never puts grades into d2l, and takes him FOREVER to put the final grade in, lectures were extremely boring
A wonderful professor who encourages communication and wants class participation. if you do the homework, you will pass your exams. the quizzes are from the lecture of that day.. He puts a lot of pop culture references in his lectures to make it a little more intriguing. I wish I he was teaching when I took intro to philosophy.
They're 12 quizzes, 3 exams and a final. The 3 lowest quiz grades are dropped. Do the homework, even though its not for credit it helps to understand the material and some of the hw questions are on the exam. Not an easy A, I worked hard for mine. Dr. Stark is super helpful, always willing to help. The only downside is there is no extra credit.
Very interesting class. Greatest professor ever. Make sure you do the exam reviews that he gives and write them out NOT type. Writing helps so much more. Essay questions can be difficult so make sure and study hard. Also, read the chapters before the lecture, this helped me improve. I always looked forward to going to his class.
amazing professor. if i could give you the best piece of advice its to take pictures of the quizzes after you guys go over them because he takes questions for exams straight from the quizzes but keeps them by him. take pics of the exams too when he goes over them for the final exam which is cumulative.
Dr. Starks is an excellent professor. The clss helps you analyze life in a different way. If you need help, just ask. Get him to talk about the matrix.
The class with him required a lot of reading, he will not post the the ppt on D2l. you have to listen to them and write down what he says during the lecture. The exam will be three writing questions about 2/4 of a page for each one. every thing on the exam are from what been said in the lecture. try not to miss a class. . yo have to work hard for i
Cool guy. Well, for a professor. Take him, just use the study guides he hands out.
Show up to class on time, do the readings ahead of time, participate in lecture and group discussions. Lectures are dry but if you do the study guides he gives, it's not too terrible. It's not an easy A, you have to work for your grade but he gives a lot of graded work to balance out the 30% weight of the comprehensive final.
I loved having Dr. Stark. Hes very good at what he does; very knowledgeable. He has a solid professor demeanor, while also staying approachable. His discussions are interesting- he allows for all input and will roll with whatever you have to include in the discussion. Im glad I took his ethics course.
great teacher. show up and listen and youll do well. highly recommend.
Dr Stark certainly knows how to teach, and how to educate. His lectures were diversified and full of good examples. Grading for informal logic was based entirely on tests, quizzes, and one final which were all from the reading and the homework. I don't recall having or needing any extra credit for the course.
hes very soft spoken and I think I would have enjoyed his class more if we didn't have a person in our class who ate up all the time talking and asking questions that don't pretain to the material its starting to hate coming to class he offters a student to help in study lessons never took advantage of it though
This professor is excellent. He is very clear, thoughtful, and fair. I highly recommend taking this professor! He helped me learn and grow.
Dr. Stark is soft spoken, he has a gentle demeanor. However, it's not easy to obtain an A grade as far as his gradings go. Here are the breakdowns: 3 chapter exams, 1 cumulative exam, 11 quizzes (3 lowest are dropped), loads of readings and end of chapter hw, no extra credits, no study guides, & he doesn't post lectures powerpoints online. gd luck.
Starks is awesome. Really amazng professor. Definitely a very intelligent, and organized guy. One of the best professors at this school. He breaks down the philosophical ideas and is often funny, too. Definitely recommend Starks.
One of the best course I've ever taken, an one of the best teahers' I've ever had. The content is interesting, challenging, and grabs your attention. I plan on taking Logic with him next term. Definitely recommend him. Oh, and he uses GoT quotes on his tests. LOL
Dr. Stark is the best professor Ive ever had. I took all 3 of his classes and received good grades. Its incredibly easy to get an A if youre willing to do the work. The exams and quizzes are easy if you do the homework and listen in class. Ive taken a lot of classes at this school and Dr. Starks class is by far the most enjoyable. Great guy.
Quizzes after Lectures
I took Ethics with professor Stark, it was an easy A as long as you do the work which is not much at all to be honest. I didn't even study for any of the quizzes or the final and still got an A. The class is very well organized and laid-back, definitely recommend!
Terrible class. He spends A LOT of time saying that he doesn't have spare time and he's super busy but then he uploads 1-3 announcements a day-- often times repeating the same thing over and over. He grades like his life depends on it, too (including discussions...). While I'm doing more than fine in the class, it's a massive headache.
Dr. Starks is super helpful, and gets back to you right away. If you watch the videos and read the book you will do well. I would take another class with him.
Amazing teacher! Im currently in his remote learning class for PHI 1710. The work is easy as long as you do it and he gives helpful feedback. Also, the questions on the quizzes are taken from the homework so you couldnt ask for it to be easier. Recommended teacher.
I had Professor Stark for a couple classes, including this past semester and he is the best teacher I have had at this school! He is very on top of grading, replies to you quick, and the quizzes are not hard at all! 10/10 I recommend!
Currently taking a Philosophy class with him at the moment. I'm really struggling because I'm not a good test taker and the only grades he gives out is for quizzes and tests. Thinking about dropping. Straight up bs
I took a class with Dr. Stark recently and I really enjoyed his lectures as well as his help on any questions I had. He responds to emails quickly. Youll do well in his class as long as you do the work! FYI, some of his exam questions come from the homework exercises.
Absolutely amazing professor. Was not too sure what I'd be getting into when signing up for ethics with Mr. Stark, but if you pay attention, read a little, and study before exams, you'll do just fine. This is how a class is meant to be. Definitely a great professor who truly enjoys teaching!
Dr. Stark is an amazing professor who you can tell genuinely loves his job. Hes really approachable and responds quickly to emails. He really does want you to succeed. As long as you read what he assigns you could pass easily. Material is manageable, and is a very interesting class.
What a good prof. Always reached out to students to help them achieve the grade they wanted. The material was given on PowerPoint, and the information was then on the quizzes or exams. MUST COME TO CLASS! You can tell he truly cares about his students and cares about the matieral. Although the class was boring it was made better by such a good prof
The class is easy. I didn't do any homework or read the text: I just went to class, attended lectures, took notes, and aced tests. The most challenging part of his class was staying awake. He speaks slowly and repeats words and concepts. The first 1.5 hours go over the homework, and it could take 15 minutes. Explains thoroughly.
Soft-spoken, humorous, answers questions. Challenges your worldview but does not challenge your grades. I found the class easy and the homework unnecessary. Clear lectures make concepts easy to grasp. Quizzes after every lecture, easy if you're listening. Answers questions with many variations, might confuse, might clarify.
He is an incredible teacher. He gives you every resource you need and his lectures are very informative. He always has interesting answers to questions. His class isn't overly hard and you will learn a lot. He is a gold dust professor.
Strict with make-ups. His lectures though slow spoken and quiet were still interesting. It's an easy class for critical thinkers. You'll also notice his grading on essay questions is very much based on how descriptive you can be about the topic, just write everything you know.
Super kind professor who genuinely wants you to succeed. Exams/quizzes were based off lectures, which were based right from the textbooks. All you have to do is put in the work and you should be fine.
Every single week, one class session is all lecture, then the following class is a quiz. All the readings you have to do outside of class, and you're expected to do excellent. When he lectures, his slides aren't clear and he goes too fast. He doesn't allow photos of slides, even if you ask him afterwards. He's also super quiet. Calls people out.
This professor is more interested in hearing himself talk than teaching students. He frequently makes inappropriate comments and is rude when he feels challenged by anything. Don't waste your money.
The professor really loves to go on unrelated tangents, or related, but inappropriate tangents. He went on about a, rather uncomfortable, story about his friend's sex life on the first day. He also made many uncomfortable statements about the AIDS crisis and transgender people. Nothing is explained clearly and confusion is inevitable in this class.
he gives you a chapter to read a week and is very organized and keeps to his schedule. just read, show up to class and you should do good. he gives you a quiz every week based on the chapter you read.
Starke is an excellent professor. He brings in examples from real life to make the material relatable. The class is not really that hard, but keeping up is a must. He gets the grading done fast and gets back to your emails quickly. Highly recommended! Will take again!
If you read and study the notes he gives you, you will do great in his class. No guessing on tests, no surprises, NO Papers to write!
Star was awesome! Would take any/all classes he teaches. Sometimes the material is hard to wrap your mind around, but he breaks it down pretty good. His lectures are informative and he makes an effort to get you to say what you think. Very respectful. Def one of the best professors at OCC.
This teacher is horrible. He grades so unfairly and gives you dumb assignments. Is so picky and gives mean feedback. I wish I dropped this class the first week. DO NOT TAKE
Had this professor for two different classes, would definitely take again! He is very nice and always willing to help if you have a question. 5/5 professor
Prof Stark is the best professor I have had. He actually cares about his students. I am actually thinking about taking higher level philosophy classes and maybe minor in it. His exams are straightforward and the study guides he give out are pretty good in helping you study. Starks is the best professor I have ever had! You won't be disappointed.
Dr. Stark is extremely picky with grading. No matter what you put on the worksheets and discussion posts, he will find something to criticize and take points away for. I've aced every quiz with minimal effort, but my grade doesn't reflect my knowledge of the material because of the points taken off of other assignments.
I have a hard time with the material of the subject, sometimes I feel as though Professor Stark is pulling random things from the textbook and putting it in the weekly quizzes. I'm learning, but I'm also struggling, and I don't feel as though he's helping me in any way. It's really if you don't understand the material, you're doomed to fail
Mr. Stark is the most awful professor I've had at OCC. Be ready for lots of homework each week, and lots of personal emails every week from the professor about turning in your homework (even if it had just been assigned). He is rude to his students and makes inappropriate "jokes" about other people. Long and boring lectures. Tough grader.
Not the professor for you unless you like to decode your feedback on assignments and discussion posts. Ego of his is very inflated and even when you email with questions you get back vague responses. This class tanked my GPA as a gen ed requirement. Wish I would have taken Droba's class instead. (She's been highly recommended to me since)
Prof Stark is very thorough. He actually takes the time to read what you turn in and if you actually do the work (like what a concept), you will do well. Stark always responds to emails promptly. Don't get the haters. You won't be disappointed if you take the class.
Prof Stark is a very good professor. He lets you see how the stuff you discuss in class relates to your life in a real way. Yes, he asks something from you, but if you just do the work and get it in on time, you will doo just fine. Would take again, yes.
I took Professor Stark's asynchronous course and the structure for it was well... logical. Very clear on what had to be done each week. The textbook used was easy to follow, and you have to definitely put in the work to read through it, but if you do you'll be fine. I emailed a couple times for questions and he gave clear answers, would take again.
Dr. Stark was an amazing teacher. He really cared for his students. He gives plenty of time to complete assignments. He is clear on instructions and post lectures to make sure you understand what the work is about. Learned a lot from this class I was lucky to take Logic with him. I highly recommend him if your looking for an amazing professor.
Prof Stark is a very dedicated to his teaching. He lays out the class clearly and is always getting feedback to you right away. He responds to emails right away too. Would def take again. Just keep up, and you'll do fine.
Prof Stark is a really good professor. He does expect you to do the reading, but the book is not hard. The study guides he give out pretty much lay out the essential idea. Make sure you know them, and you will do just fine. Would definitely take again. :)
Mr. Stark clearly explained everything and was willing to answer my questions. What he gave us for assignments, those were all very helpful to understand class idea. He's a fast grader and fast replying to emails. Would take again, yes.
Love Stark! He was one of my favorites at OCC. His presentations are crystal clear, and he shows you how life has so many philosophical underpinnings running through it. I see many things in life differntly after taking his class. Would take again.
Stark was well organized. I took Intro to Philosophy. He is a great teacher and very responsive. The grades always got put into the gradebook right away. He invites discussion and questions answered appropriately, Pretty interesting class. Makes you look at life from a different angle. Would take again. :)
Didn't want to take Ethics really but the class turned out good. Stark's a great guy and his class was interesting. Would take again, yes. :)
He show you, after breaking it all down, how philosophical thinking is involved in an underlying way in real life. Lives his philosophy. Would take again. :)
Tough grader and the questions on his worksheets are confusing specially if you are a foreign student like me. On quizzes and tests I always scored above 95% (which are graded automatically on D2L) and on the worksheets that he graded he always gave me 75-80%. Other than that his lectures are interesting and he does a good job explaining material.
Lots of information in lectures. He is a bit peculiar, but overall I do recommend.
Very organized teacher. He really wants you to do well. His study guides pretty much lay out the essentials. Will take again. Not hard, if you keeps up.
Very deep thinker, Prf Star. He shows you how philosophy is beneath the surface in life. I see things differently in taken his class. Would recommend, yes.
Stark is obviously passionate about teaching ethics, and yet he doesn't take sides. He's fair in the classroom and you can see he wants you to do well. He gives some extra credit too. Woould take again. :)
I had an awful time in his class all around. I wasn't understanding how the discussion boards were relevant, the quiz questions came almost word for word out of the textbook or was super political, and when I reached out for help to attempt to understand the course material better, he was horrible at communication and I left feeling more confused.
I would not take him again only because he is a tough grader for the worksheets even if you put exactly what you heard in the lecture he will find something wrong with it. The Discussion posts are confusing even if you pay attention. He gives you a lot of time to complete assignments though
Super tough grader with no clear explanation. You can put in all the time and effort possible and still get marked down. His assignments are unclear, the questions are worded in a way that is extremely confusing even for someone who has always gotten great grades in English. Tried reaching out and still left confused. Do not recommend!!!!
If you are reading this, do not take this class. he is a tough grader and all of his quizzes. quizzes are completely different from his practice quizzes. The discussion post are simple, but his grading will make you think that you did everything completely wrong. He will find the smallest things and mark you down for it.
Dr. Stark is a great professor. He take the time to explain things clearly, and he show you how philosophical ideas are just beneath the surface in life like all the time. Don't get the haters... Stark does ask something from you, but if you are willing to do some work, it's all good. Wood take again, definitely. :)
Stark tells you exactly what you need to do in his class to get good grades. It's a no brainer- KNOW the study guides****you will do well on the tests! I like that he is a fast grader. I will definitely take another class of his.
Starks is a really good professor. He shows you how the ethical ideas involved are apart of everyday life. A good thing is that he doesn't push any of his own views. When you think you've got him figured out, he presents a different viewpoints. The worksheets that he give you are a good guide to what you will see on his quizzes. Would take again.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!! TRUST ME. The way he grades will put you through millions of emotions. You could say EXACTLY what he stated in his lecture and he gives you a 60-70% and telling you what is wrong with your thinking.
Stark loves talking about the Matrix. He brings it up most classes and his analyzation makes you see how the movie symbolizes real life and philosophy. He grades fast and responds fast to email. Would take again. Good guy, too.
Starks is a very good teacher. He breaks things down in a way that makes the philosophers understandable. He doesn't take sides in the ethics class, he just lays things out. His study guides kind of lay out what u can expect on his exams. Very fast grader, too. Would take again, yes. Oh, and he never wears the same thing twice...
Very organized instructer. Stark you can tell cares about his students and he wants you to learn. His class was a real eye-opener, and at the same time he does not push his own agenda. Would take again.
TW: Discusses ab0rt!0n frequently in his lectures while claiming to not share his political views with the class. Agreeing with another rating here, this professor is not fair at grading, and goes so far as to find flaws with things that are correct in the textbook. Discussion posts are nit-picked and low grades are given despite adequate effort
Prof Stark makes the class very clear and interesting. He is very informative and organized. The quizzes very much relate to the worksheets that you go over in class. Some goes for his tests. Starke replies to you emails in a timely manner and so with gradded work. I would take him again.
Starks is very organized and he executes the class well. There are quizzes many classes and what you need to know is all laid out on the worksheets you do in class. He shows you how philosophy really relates to Life. Prof Stark is a very nice guy too, you can see that he really wants you to learn. Aewsome prof! Yes, I would take again.
Everything was described in a very easy way to understand, along with encouraging questions if you didn't understand something. He throws in life stories and little jokes throughout class. That displays the concepts in real life, along with keeping it interesting. His quizzes relate alot to the worksheets you do in class.
Rude and seems to only care that you get work done
Dr. Stark is a next level deep thinker. Shows you how everyday life is philosophical and his tests are on the study guide. He's got some interesting stories and also talks about the matrix movie. He shows you how much is really going on in the movie. you won't regret taking his class.
Took the class for GE, but I actually found it interesting. He does a good job relating philosophy to Life and is actually pretty funny if you listen closely. He gets back to you emails quickly. Good guy, good class. Would take again. They should have more philosophy courses at OCC.
Starks makes philosophy very relatable, and he is crystal clear in terms of the layout of the class. His class was asking deep questions, but how it relates to Life is super interesting. Probably the fastest grader I have taken. He give study guides which r a big help................
The professor has a unique teaching style, though grading can be tough. Engagement is key - read the textbook, attend class, and utilize study tools like Unstuck AI. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
Starke makes philosophy relateable to your life, and he is kind of entertaining. He responds to emails pretty much right away and he may be one of the fastest graders. The study guides he give out pretty much lay out what u need to know for tests. U won't be diappointed is u take his class.
Entertaning class and you will learn something about how ethix relates to life. The quizzes relate to the workheets u do in class. Would take another class with him.
Starks is a next-level philosophy thinker and he makes philosophy relatble to your life. He makes a lot of matrix references (the first one mainly) to gets the points across. His worksheets lay out pretty much what u need to know for his quizzes and tests. He made it fun too, kind of. Might take another class with Starks.
Starks is an awesome professor. He knows his philosophy and know that his class is no the only thng inyour life. His worksheets are superhelpful when it comes to his tests. He responds to you emails fast and gets the quiz grades in like before you get to your car. Not alot of extra credit, but I would take again. :)
His lectures gave clarity on the assigned readings and practice quizzes could be taken inifinite times through the end of the course. He does not reveal answers to the quizzes only the grade. He limits the discussion posts to 250 words. He graded based on a few short discussion posts, several quizzes, several assignments, a midterm and a final.
Starks is very dedicated to helping you learn. His study guides basically lay out what u need to know. Defintiely makes you think outside the box of the usual class, and in his lectures he bring in all sorts of unexpected things, from tarot cards to matrix to.... Maybe the fastest grader I've had. Would take again.
He's really interested in helping you learn. As notted his study guides lay out what u need to know for the tests. Starke brings in amazing references like from Jimi Hendrix to the Matrix to Luig Mangion. Makes the class intersting. Maybe the fastest grader. Would take again.
Did not care for Lawrence one bit. Would lecture for hours and would get off topic frequently. I would not take a class with him again
