This guy is the man. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. No BS, no pushing his ideals onto anyone else, not overly philosophical but still really knowledgeable. Right on.

He is one of my favorite teachers by far! He makes learing interesting, and was always upbeat. His outlook on life and learning is incredable, I would recomend his class to anyone!

Russell was so good, he made world religions understandable and interesting. Plus hes so freakin funny, that guy made class a lot of fun!

He makes other religions very interesting and he relates it to you. He gives some work, but it's not a lot. It can be handles easily. A must for all.

The best class I've ever taken. He is unbelievable in provoking thought and he does not spew any BS. They need to give the man tenure, seriously. He is an asset to Elon.

Seriously one of the best profs I've had. Very fun class, and you learn a lot. Likes music and is easy to talk with. Doesn't lecture much.

The Coolest, most interesting professor I had at College.

Be ready for the look of elightenment. LD is a great professor. From the first day he tried to bond with the class so the prof student relationship is eliminated. There is a substantial amount of work, however it is interesting and you leave each class having learned something new. Not to mention his fun rituals, Take the class and u will find out!

Amazing professor, but a difficult grader.

LD is the man. The class lacked content however - so sometimes would get dull. If you like NASCAR, you'll find it interesting. If you need a REL class, take it, because its quite simple and not really religion at all. Good class for winter term, not demanding at all, and lots of laughs. Very student-involved discussions.

Easily my favorite professor since I've been in college. His global class is very easy, but at the same time, very interesting and stimulating. The discussions are very student involved and he is often hilarious. Take his class if you can.

Best global class ever, he's the man, favorite teacher at Elon, take him at all possible if you can.

LD is awesome, really makes you think. only 2 tests and a final with some reflection papers on reading. class can get boring sometimes, but he really likes people to speak up. best thing to do is add personal opinions and stories to tests. he def gets off on tangents, but he is a wealth of knowledge. take his class!!!

At first glance, LD Russell is a strange man, but he'll admit that to you. He's extremely interesting though and even though I didn't many facts in the class, I learned a ton about my classmates which was nice. And yeah, I may or may not have missed over half the classes, but he was always cool about it.

Really interesting, chill guy. No quizzes/tests. One page, double spaced reflection papers due most days. One project. Overall pretty easy, one of the better global classes I'm told.

Absolutely the most amazing teacher I have ever had. He truly wants his students to grow as individuals while gaining a better understaning of the world around them. Truthfully, this teacher is inspirational, kind, and cares about every one of his students. The work load is not hard, but you learn so much it is incredible.

LD is one of the best and nicest professors I've had at Elon. Starts every class with a musical lyric, but if you're not versed in good classic rock, you won't get most of them. Loves what he teaches, loves the students. I find time to visit with him in his office every so often even though I had him over a year ago.

One of the best teachers of my life. The class is the best part of my day, very fun and interesting. He's very wise and open-minded, and you'll learn A TON about religion and yourself in a non-cheesy way.

LD is one of the greatest professors I have ever had at Elon. There is never a dull moment in his class. He is extremely knowledgable about all the religions and examines each religion in an unbiased manner. There are only two tests (he can be a difficult grader) but I learned more in his one class then my other three combined. Highly Recommened.

THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. I learned so much about religion/myself/life from him. Class is always interesting, he's the most encouraging man at Elon and has incredible insight. Easily managable work load. I still email him about once a month to catch up and get his advice on things.

LD is a great professor. He's a really nice guy and personable guy who you can obviously tell cares a lot about his job and his students. He's ridiculously chill, but takes his subject very seriously too. Attendance is mandatory, but it's such an interesting class you'll be looking forward to it every day. Really poignant discussions are frequent.

The class at some points gets tough but he makes learning soooo much fun. And I know some people say that professors make learning fun and it's not fun, it's honestly fun. You take so much from that class that you don't think you will. It makes you think, as well as get the jist of other point of views. Any class he teaches is one to take

I really enjoyed this class. We covered a lot of essential topics that are relevant to our global society. I've heard horrible things about this class with other professors, but LD is definitely the person to go with. And he's always willing to help!

Possibly the coolest professor at Elon. His class teaches you world religions, yes, but more than that, it is a lesson in how to handle life. You have to read, or you'll be lost, but the assignments are fun!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Anyone will agree-- take his World Religion class and it will change your life. Class is easy but tests do require lots of details so be sure to actually study.

L.D is probably the best teacher to ever live. He is what college is all about. He is less into teaching than learning from what the students have to say. He encourages discussion and rewards active participants. Take him and you will enjoy class and learn about life-something much more important than anything you could learn in a typical class.

LD is a great professor--not only is he passionate about the subjects he teaches, but it is truly concerend with conveying information to his students. He makes the class interesting and engaging no matter what your learning style may be. Read the book and go to class--you'll never *not* want to go!

LD is one of the most fun teachers on campus. He has a great sense of humor and enjoys teaching (go figure). Lots of reading and minimal papers on your own thoughts, but they aren't graded harshly. One final project that he's flexible with so you can end up doing it on something you really enjoy or are passionate about. Great class and lots of fun!

Great professor. Must take for World Religions. Very enthusiastic about the class and easy to talk to outside of class. Knows the material and makes sure you do too. Can't say enough nice things about LD. Great professor that deserves all his credit.

He is by far the best teacher here at Elon University. Do not judge him based on his picture (that is a very old picture that really needs to be updated) because he will teach you so many things and make you think about life with a whole new perspective. I highly recommend taking his religion courses and any other class you can get. LD u da man!

HE IS THE MAN! I had him for study abroad in Hawaii for winter term. He is such an amazing professor. He really opens your mind and makes you think. He cares about his students and such an interesting guy. TAKE HIS CLASSES...you won't regret it.

This dude is awesome. In class, you mainly just talk and can share your ideas. He shares life stories and all that. He's a hippie but a very cool one. Make sure you participate and do well on papers, which isn't that hard to do. To this day, I sitll keep in touch with him just to talk. I'd DEFINITELY recommend him

LD is a very interesting guy... You will learn a little about different religions, and a lot about your classmates opinions, which made it interesting for me. He is a hard grader so don't expect an A, a B/C+ is pretty common from him. The texts were long in the beginning of the year, and basically were non-existent by the end.

LD is the coolest. He's such a nice guy and is very passionate about all things religion. It's not hard to get an A in his class if you pay attention, show up and make an effort. If you're having doubts about taking one of his classes, don't. He's awesome.

Class is pretty easy. Kind of goes with the flow. GREAT guy. He made a personal connection with me and acted like he really cared, which I really appreciated. He's just an open-minded, peace-loving hippie. Took his class for personal reasons and got great insight into how I want to live my life.

LD is absolutely awesome, esp. for Global. . He's passionate about what he does and his discussions get really good. He's kind of quirky, but hilarious and super chill, which is perfect for Global. He makes you want to do well and succeed and if you get to know him, could serve as a great friendmentorresource to have as you get older. Best class.

LD is more of a life coach than a professor. I ended up with him by chance my first semester at Elon and continued to take more of his classes throughout college. He is so incredibly engaging. He is such an integral part of the Elon community and cares about each and every one of his students. Post graduation, we still keep in touch.

An amazing guy. Doesnt allow technology but he is entertaining enough you wont feel the need. Grades you based off your "karma." Be present and you will get an A

LD honestly is a great professor. I had him last fall & he really does a great job of creating a discussion and not just lecturing (rarely done actually) and allowing class to flow naturally . He makes sure his 'tribe' is in a safe space and does a great job of being inclusive of those who are marginalized. Definitely will take more of his classes

An amazing professor, truly is passionate and enthusiastic about educating. He cares about each student, and emphasizes on the importance of discussions and seeing others perspectives of world issues. I hope to get another class with him at some point. Make sure you talk in the discussions, let your voice be heard.

LD Russel has been my absolute favorite professor while I've been at Elon. His class made me completely forget about grades and focus on what really matters, learning. This class and this professor changed my life and I will cherish that forever. If you have the opportunity to take this class or any class with LD and be a part of his tribe, do it.

LD is the best, and so is his class. You will think deeper than ever before and walk out of the room glad you came to class. LD cares so much about each of his students and their learning experience. He calls his lectures "conversations" because he wants to hear everyone's voice. Don't graduate without taking a class with LD.

I had LD for my Global class. I absolutely loved him, and the class was relatively easy--we didn't have too many assignments, but there was some reading and we had to attend 5 out-of-class events. Happy to be a part of the "Tribe!"

He also cares about class participation, so if you show up to every class and contribute to discussion, you'll get an A or a B. He doesn't give a lot of work besides reading.

LD forces students to have meaningful conversations in class and encourages disagreements. He loves to get to know his students and opens every class with a song lyric. His class is mostly discussion based with a few papers here and there, but not an overwhelming amount of work.

Great prof. a must take at Elon. It is a class that will make you think, but not really work. A great class to have in the spring.

Ld is definitely a character. No technology in class and he doesn't post any grades he just sorta emails you whenever and tells you your grade. If you want an A in his class you are going to have to participate in the lectures.

LD is my best professor at Elon. His class is very easy you have to read two books them discuss them as a class, write a midterm paper about one of the books, and do a final project. He is so funny and makes class so much fun. Definitely take his class!

Next year will be LD's last year I believe and if you get the chance to have him, consider yourself lucky. Discussions everyclass about social issues-awesome . Attendance is graded so go to class, and class is fun so it's a win/win. no hw other than some reading.. LD is a great guy and very influential and I was grateful to have him as a professor.
