The work load is rather intense but it requires you to keep up with the work which makes midterm and finals less stressful. Definitely worth taking!
Great energy and passionate about any subject she teaches. Expects a certain level of work ethic and participation. Overall great teacher and highly recommended.
Look: she is super nice and pretty funny. But her absence policy is INSANE. If you are tardy, you lose a point off your final grade & its 2 points for missing. Reading quizzes EVERY CLASS NIGHT and a paper EVERY WEEK. It is easy and I don't do any work but it is tedious and I'm always running to be on time.
So easy because questions come straight from quizzes for the midterm and final. ALOT of work though, a paper every week and a quiz every class. Also you can't miss class like ever or else your grade will get docked. I would taker again though because it will be worth it since I think I am going to get an A.
You will have short quizzes due daily and a few pages of writing every week - but that's it. If you complete them and attend every class, It's a very easy A. She's a fairly easy grader as well, with tests and the midterm all coming verbatim from the daily work. Really great lectures as well!
SHES AWESOME! I have taken Global Issues and 3300 from her and will continue to take all of the IA classes I can from her. She rocks. The work is worth it.
Dr. Carmichael is the best. I tool her for INTL 1100, INTL 3200 and INTL 3300. Her lectures are great, but get prepared to read. Daily reading quizzes before each class, a paper due every Monday and she is funny. She is willing to help you if you need help. Attendance policy is crazy. I would any other class with her.
Fabulous professor. You will learn so much and her passion for the subject is infectious. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Open book reading quiz due every day of class, and an analysis due every Monday. I felt more than prepared for the midterm because of the work she had us do throughout the semester. She knows what she's doing and her love for IA is contagious. Never bored. Will definitely take as many of her classes as I possibly can! Seriously, take her class.
One can easily tell how much Dr. Carmichael loves IA after just one class, and her love is infectious. The class is a lot of busy work, but it really prepares you for the exam; I didn't need to study because of all the work I put in throughout the semester. I would definitely recommend her to anyone remotely interested in IA.
She is WONDERFUL. Her trademark way of organizing the grades/workload does put a good deal of work on you each week (a paper is due summarizing the class content weekly, as well as daily but easy reading quizzes due before class) but it 100% pays off with an incredibly easy to study for midterm and final. She is funny, kind, passionate, and cares.
Awesome professor. Easy class. Allows you to do assignments to make up attendance credit for missing class. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
The course load may seem like a lot at first - but the final and midterm are super easy because of it. She's a fantastic teacher and really does care about her students. I would love to take her class again. Everyone in her class is lucky.
Professor Carmichael was a great teacher. Her lectures were relevant, precise, and interesting. Her class is not easy. There are weekly quizzes and a weekly paper. However, it will pay off for your final exams since she literally uses the same questions from the quizzes. Do not miss class. It is much easier to be there than not be there
Awesome professor. She is an easy A if you pay attention, do the homework quizzes, and GO TO CLASS. Pretty entertaining if you're interested in International Affairs. Have to take INTL3200? Take it with Carmichael.
ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. There are daily quizzes (and reading to go with them) and weekly analyses, but they make it easier to excel on the midterm and final exam. She is the best professor I've had at UGA so far. very enthusiastic about what she's teaching! Her lectures are interesting, and she makes the content relevant.
TAKE HER!! by far the best professor I have had so far- her passion for the material definitely rubs off on her students. She has a very strict attendance policy, but going to class is definitely worth it. There is quite a bit of work, but her grading policies are super straightforward. I would take her class again in a heartbeat, she is AWESOME
Dr. Carmichael is the best teacher I've ever had. In all my time in school, I have never seen a teacher that enjoys teaching as much as she does. She is so passionate about International Affairs, and is always there to help you with ANY issues you have about class, school, or your future. If you're thinking about IA, take her. You won't regret it.
Highly recommend taking her classes. The lectures are interesting and engaging. Make sure you go to class because that is a big part of your grade. One of the best professors at UGA.
Dr Carmichael is awesome. I took an online class, but I could still feel her passion for the subject and how much she cares about the success of her students. I think I had a great virtual experience because of her. The material was pretty interesting to me, which made it even better. I would definitely take her again and again. Great professor!
Best teacher I've had at UGA, hands down. Take her if you can!!! Interesting class yet kind of challenging (but in the bet way).
Dr. Carmichael is incredible and my favorite professor I've had so far. She cares about her students and her class is extremely interesting. Reading quizzes are due before every class but they are really easy and take 5 minutes tops. Also discussion posts are assigned every week but as long as you put effort into them they're not bad.
Carmichael was one of my favorite teachers that I have ever had while at UGA. She is so passionate and it really comes through in her lectures. Her class was a piece of cake because she made concepts so easy to understand. You have to read and pay attention in class, but then her midterm and quizzes were super easy. She is literally the best.
Carmichael is an INCREDIBLE professor. If you have the chance TAKE HER CLASS. I took her class this semester and I am taking another class with her next semester. There are daily reading quizzes and weekly discussion posts but as long as you stay on top of it it's really very manageable!
Leah is an incredible professor who is very passionate about her topic & also cares about her students. I LOVED taking her class. However, she has a strict attendance policy & there are daily readings w/ online quizzes, & a weekly discussion post. It's a decent amount of work, but the information is interesting & Leah is very engaging.
If you get a chance to take Carmichael, do it! Her class is so helpful in learning the many issues of the world with a manageable workload. You'll love her, I promise.
Dr. Carmichael was hands-down the best professor I've ever had at UGA! Her lessons are very structured and organized, so you always know what you will need to be doing that week. She makes her lectures engaging and fun, and she is always there for you outside of class if you need to talk about grades, curriculum, or just life in general.
Dr. Carmichael is such a great professor. There wasn't a single lecture where we didn't discuss a relevant and interesting issue. One of the coolest things about her is that she uses elaborate analogies to make difficult concepts understandable. She is also extremely helpful during office hours and always willing to talk to you about your future.
This is a super easy class and the way she teaches it is extremely straightforward. The information is more broad, touching on a bunch of topics then really delving in, but she makes all the material really interesting. Grading is extremely clear and pretty easy as long as you put in the minimum effort and go to class, you'll get an A.
First, I'll say Dr. Carmichael is one of the most affable professors I've ever had. She's funny and genuinely kind. That being said, the class at times felt a lil sophomoric. Very superficial coverage of concepts and little to no mention of leading thinkers. She's also pretty devoutly neoliberal, but make of that what you will.
She's super kind and understanding. She does ask a lot for an intro level class. There are weekly readings, quizzes, and discussion posts that are over content covered in class. The discussion posts can get long because they are formatted like papers.
Dr. Carmichael is FANTASTIC. She is so willing to help and so so kind. Devoted so much time to final paper to help us do awesome on it! Mandatory attendance, but has an easy policy for making up absences. By far one of the nicest and most passionate professors I've ever had. Take her!!!
I had to take this class after already taking higher levels. Her lectures are long-winded and her elaborate metaphors over-complicated. Class time gets away from her. She teaches as though to high schoolers, and is very particular about writing style. I felt like I didn't learn anything!
She is actually amazing! Her lectures are great and she really cares about her students. Literally every time I tell other IA students that I have Carmichael they always respond with how much they love her class. Not necessarily an easy grader but she is clear about expectations and is more than happy to help if you need it.
While many students seem to like, and click with Dr. Carmichael, I found myself dreading her class because it reminded me way too much of high school. She's fond of micromanaging everything, and was wrong on important historical information sometimes, and had to be corrected by students. I did appreciate how we only had articles instead of tests!
I took Dr. Carmichel in time periods that were back to back, but I did not mind at all. We even had great talks walking between classes. She is a great teacher, super sweet, and she knows the field. She was the first person I asked to write a recommendation for grad school, and I have gotten into great schools. You will not regret taking her.
Carmichael is generally well received and her rate my professor score is a perfect indication of that; however, her class is micromanaged like a high school honors course. She takes her time getting back grades and regularly changes due dates of assignments causing confusion. I found myself often lost in the everchanging logistics of the course.
Long story short, unless you enjoy feeling like a high school student in college, don't take this class. For some inexplicable reason, Dr. Carmichael gives you one singular article to write, and micromanages it to the point were it doesn't even feel like you wrote it. Her metaphors are long winded and make no sense, and her lectures are dull.
Your grades in this class come from attendance, weekly online discussion posts and quizzes, and progress made on a paper. The quizzes are easy (and you can look up the answers online). Carmichael is nice (almost too nice), but she can be a picky grader. Because there are no tests it sometimes feels like you aren't learning much. Overall: easy.
I don't know how she is in person, but online, Dr. Carmichael was organized and fair. Class consisted of quizzes, discussion posts, and optional extra credit. Even if you disagree with her politically, as long as you stick to the rubric and use sufficient evidence, you'll be fine. Overall, pretty simple and straightforward.
Took this class because IA peaked my interest. Ended up changing my major, but Dr. Carmichael was a GEM. So funny, inspirational, and you can really tell she loves what she does. TAKE HER! One of the best professors/teachers I've had.
This was the first year the class was structured like this, and although she is a good teacher, the class was extremely difficult and the grading was not very fair. Basically everyone failed the midterm and final. However, she is a good professor and has a great personality. She also responds well to feedback about her courses
What a lady. She's very kind and caring, and made the class interesting. She loves her students well, and wants to help us find passion in learning. The class isn't very hard, and required minimal outside work. I hear that her upper level classes are harder but I recommend her for sure. She is the best, and will help you with WHATEVER you need.
Dr. Carmichael is one of the best professors I've ever had. I've taken three of her courses and will be taking another in the fall. Not only are her lectures entertaining and make the material easy to understand, but she is also willing to meet outside of class to talk about any concerns you have. She is also a great mentor in future planning.
This class was super easy, and I absolutely adore Dr. Carmichael. Her grading policies are extremely clear and generous. She's very knowledgeable, helpful, and funny!
Doctor Carmichael is amazing. We have "group projects" each week, but the section are divided up among the group so you only have to write about a paragraph each week. Attendance is online and can be finessed. No midterm or final, just a regular weekly group project. Super interesting. Loved this class and the professor.
Your grade in this class is 45% quizzes( You have an entire week for each quiz, which is online and open notes), the other 45% is group work(some people get groups that are more efficient than others because they're randomized and others get lazy group members, one of my members didn't show up except for the midterm/final). 10% is attendance
Dr. Carmichael is a really good prof. She makes INTL really interesting and easy to understand. You'll only have quizzes (once a week) and group projects with the midterm and final being video projects.
carmichael is my favorite professor ever. i am literally going to take every class she offers. 4210 is fun and engaging go into it with a positive attitude and try and it will be so rewarding. midterm/final are intense but if you are good at reading and memorizing they are not hard, and worth very little of your grade overall. be a good classmate
Professor Carmichael was so amazing. I took INTL with her this semester and cannot say enough good things about her. She has a passion for IA, and it shows. She inspired me to add a major in it, in fact. Clear grading policy and very possible to get an A. Take her if you can, you won't regret it.
Leah is the light of my life, an actual angel. Such an interesting class! No textbooks, but she creates the easy readings, and there is an online quiz once a week on the reading. Aside from quizzes, this class is ALL group work! Submit one project each week, but you're only responsible for one part each week. Group midterm and final project, too.
Dr. Carmichael is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Her intro to global issues class was engaging and not too difficult, and she is one of the funniest lecturers I've had at UGA. Would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Carmichael has been one of the best professors I've ever had! Her lectures are amazing and easy to become interested in. The topics she discusses in class are interesting and you will learn a lot of what is happening in the world. Make sure you attend class because you have no free absences. The whole semester is spent in groups doing projects.
I'm giving her a 4 because I'll give her the benefit of the doubt to change these group projects. In short, they suck if you have a bad group, but if you have a good group I imagine it's nice. Everyone gets the same grade, despite doing different roles. Also, she's hard to get a hold of because she's busy, but it's still easy to end with an A.
Probably the best professor i've had at UGA thus far. She is so caring and is willing to work with you in terms of resources and any help you may need. She has a genuine attitude and is passionate about what she teaches and the jokes she cracks in class. Definitely definitely recommend for IA!!!!!!
Dr. Carmichael is such a fun and engaging lecturer. She is so helpful and accessible outside of class. This course is really interesting because it is based on current events and allows you to think critically. This class is unlike any I have ever taken so if you are not big on group projects you might want to steer clear.
My favorite professor at UGA. I loved her lectures and she has clear grading criteria. She will work with you at length on your paper and is happy to answer questions. She cares about students' lives after college. She truly takes an interest in every one of her students.
Great professor for INTL 4210. Her class involves one day of case prep and the next day is the actual trial. Reading the course reader prior to every trial day makes this class easy and very fun. Unfortunately her midterm and final are the hardest, most nit-picky final I had ever taken at UGA. They tests you are random factiods instead of cases.
Honestly can't stress enough that she is such a caring and detailed professor. She makes the grading criteria very clear and is very responsive to email and during her office hours. She is very willing to help you plan your academic and professional career out and connect you with resources.
Leah is amazing! If tests aren't your thing, she is your professor (there are none)! The topics are so interesting and the work you do is so applicable for any career (especially SPIA though). Just group work every week and very low maintenance weeks during midterms and finals for other classes. There are quizzes (open note) before class (easy).
Dr. Carmichael is awesome. So organized, a kind person, and passionate about international relations. The group projects, however, SUCK!!! Each week you work with a group of 10 to write a policy brief on the topic. Its not hard - but the people in your group could easily turn out to be slackers & bad students or just annoying people.
AMAZING. You have to take on Carmichael class while at UGA. She cares for her students, is on top of grading, brings up current events, and is passionate about her field. She also gives great career advise so whether you take her freshman year or senior, you'll love her just the same.
Leah Carmichael is super sweet! International Affairs is one of my majors and this class made me confident in that choice. But, if you hate group work, don't take this class. The class is one long group project. But it taught me a lot and made me work and think differently. I loved this class. And there's no final exam;)
This class pushed me in the best ways and made me confident in my choice of being an International Affairs major. The lectures are interesting and Dr. Carmichael really cares about her students. There are no tests or final, just a final video project. The entire class is group work but the criteria is clear. Dr. Carmichael is the best.
This class was very interesting, but entirely group work. My group was unreliable and terrible. This class taught me how stupid some college kids are. I luckily still received an A, but be prepared to be frustrated with group work. no tests. inspirational teacher and good lectures (if you interested in IA).
Loved Dr. Carmichael. She was very sweet and you could tell how much she cared about all of her students and the subject matter. A lot of her ideas for class activities were pretty complicated, but overall a good class. Would recommend.
Dr. Carmichael is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. It's obvious that she cares very deeply about each and every student. Make time to get to know her and let her get to know you; she's a great person to have in your corner! Advanced Political Simulations was VERY fun. Aside from a couple long papers, it was relatively easy.
Carmichael is clearly very knowledgeable about the material, but almost everything in the class was graded by group work. I had a great group, but I know of a few people that got screwed over because of lazy partners. However, the material is interesting, and Dr. Carmichael is very nice. Just make sure you have a good group.
SO MUCH GROUP WORK. If it weren't for the group work, I would have absolutely loved this class. The material is very interesting, and she makes it easy to get an A. But you have a group policy brief to turn in every week, and it is miserable if you have a few people who bring down the group. She is not much help trying to help fix group issues.
This was quite honestly the most boring class I've ever taken. Dr. Carmichael tended to be quite patronizing and condescending to people that asked questions during class and everyone I've talked to agrees everything was dumbed down so much that we felt like children. Her group projects are a waste of time, but they're 60% of the final grade.
This food policy class was so interesting. It made you look at food in a whole new light, and Dr. Carmichael does a great job only teaching the fun facts. She is there for you to learn, without causing you to pull your hair out. You want to succeed in her class, so you do the work, its a simple as that.
Dr. Carmichael is wonderful. She cares about her students, gives engaging classes, and really knows her material. My suggestion is don't take this class unless you want to do the work. It isn't tricky or particularly difficult, but if you really invest in the reading you gain so much from the course. If you don't, your group members won't like you.
I loved Dr. Carmichael and her class. She's incredibly passionate about the subject in the most endearing way, and manages to make all of her lectures interesting. It's one the only classes where I consistenly enjoyed the readings and where participation in class isn't forced. I definitely recommend it you have the chance.
Dr. Carmichael is one of the most engaging and kind professors. Her class is very group project heavy. You have to come to class and participate to get a good grade. Her exams are very difficult but not worth much. Would definitely take another of her classes
Honestly this class gave me a headache at times. First, the class is super easy yet the exams are hard. She has great ideas but they never really translate well and often we found ourselves confused on what she wanted from us. Lastly, the group projects have no real accountability mechanisms and she's not helpful with fixing that.
I think she's extremely knowledgeable about international politics. She's very intelligent. However, I feel that she can be a bit disingenuous about certain things. I had some issues with my group. I reached out to her about it and she didn't change anything or reprimand anyone, she tried to do this solidarity bit which felt kind of insulting.
If you like writing, you will love her class
She was awesome and would definitely take a class with her again.
Such an easy grader and was very understanding during COVID. Lectures were recording and were not mandatory. We have one quiz and one written assignment due every week but they are both super easy and dont take long at all to finish. She is so kind and helpful to all students. I wish I got to go in person more.
She is soooooo nice! You just need to read 15 course readers and write 15 little assignments. You can easy get an A but it doesn't mean you will not learn something in this class. Every course readers are really interesting. You can learn a lot by taking this class!! I will take it again!
The sweetest! She is extremely fair and yet so flexible when it comes to facilitating assignments and grading. As someone who had to work to support myself during the pandemic, she has been beyond understanding. Dr. Carmichael does not require attendance and posts lectures for us to refer back to. She does her best to answer all of your questions!
She was very accommodating and easy with grading considering how classes were structured due to Covid. Great professor who really cares about her students!
Very accommodating during COVID, offers zoom lectures but also puts all of her info in an online course reader. If you go to class/read the info online, you'll learn a lot. However, you can still pass with an A without doing so, you'll just leave the class not learning much. Two easy assignments a week. Def take her, she's so sweet!
If you have not heard about Dr. Carmichael, what are you doing!! She's amazing in everything she does, I have taken 4 classes with her so far and I have learned so much in each! This class has weekly written assignments (briefs) and we had 2 Moot Courts. She helps every step of the way and does not leave until everyone understands the topic. A GEM.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Carmichael. She is an AMAZING professor who truly cares about her students (especially during covid). you get out what you put in, so be engaged and ask questions for a better experience!! no mandatory attendance and weekly written assignments.
This was the first full covid semester, and all of her classes were on zoom, but she was engaging and it wasn't like a class you treat as a podcast. There is no mid-term or final, only writing assignments and open note quizzes. The textbook is a free online website that she wrote herself, and is clear and concise. She also has great office hours.
This class was very interesting and one of my favorite classes for fall 2020. Dr. Carmichael teaches you so much and is really passionate about each topic. The class work is definitely manageable, she gives a good amount of time to complete the assignments. Would recommend!!
By far my favorite professor so far at UGA! Made me feel so much more sure in my IA major. I had her class during COVID and she was so understanding and very lenient with grades. No long textbook readings and no tests or final! Her lectures were so interactive and enjoyable, and as someone who rarely talks in class I felt encouraged to participate.
This class was insanely easy. Basically do all the work and you will get at the very least a B. There are no tests, and all quizzes are open-note. The writing assignments due every week (very short like two paragraphs) were the only thing that was slightly difficult, but she gives you a chance to redo one and your lowest grade is dropped.
Dr. Carmichael is such a caring professor! Her ultimate goal is for students to learn. There are easy reading quizzes each week. The moot court is fun and a good learning experience for those who plan on attending law school.
Dr. Carmichael is a great professor!Took this class online over the summer and it was an easy A. There are 7 units, each with an open note quiz (50%) and a writing assignment (50%) ( >300 words). No need for a textbook bc she already has the info organized on her own website (Course reader). She even made a GroupMe so students can ask her questions.
Her online class is very straightforward and as long as you do your work on time it is an easy A.
Carmichael is amazing. She makes complex legalese easy to understand through simple examples and gives great experience in making legal arguments through her moot court format. Additionally, she gives you all material necessary to succeed in one link on ELC. This class was fun and exciting and one of my favorites in my college experience.
I took her class online and there were three things due weekly: quiz, speech, and a written activity (brief). She does not accept late work but is accessible at any time. She cares about the subject and wants you to learn. She is a great professor and relates the material to the modern everyday life. Easy A as long as you do quality work on time.
She is a good professor and a nice person but doesn't be fooled, she does not care if you do not do well in her class. This class is 85% group work, so make sure you get a good group. I personally got annoyed with this class toward the end because it felt like there was a lot of busy work. But easy A if you put the work in.
Prof. Carmichael is such a good professor. It is obvious that she cares and she works hard to breakdown the topic in an easy to understand way. Class is really group heavy but you are only graded on one thing that you work on with your group. Very structured schedule so if that's your thing, you'll love her. By far my favorite professor in IA.
She is great! Super easy grader, not much work, and easy content. The only thing is she's not the fastest when it comes to responding to emails.
Attendance isn't mandatory or for a grade, but I highly recommend going to class. This class is simulation style, so you work in groups to solve world issues instead of just being lectured on it. No tests or final, just an open note quiz every other week, a completion grade with your group, and short essay (under 800 words) every other week.
Course was not well organized. Sometimes she wrote incorrect information. Also does not give any positive or negative feedback on essays you write for the class.
Class consists of quizzes, speeches, and briefs that are due at the end of every week. There are no tests nor a final exam. Easy class, however, Dr. Carmichael is impossible to reach. For an online class, good communication is essential. A lot of the class had a problem with her communication. Her grading is also confusing with no elaboration.
I took international law with Dr. Carmichael and she was awesome. The class was based on 7 cases pertaining to international law and at the end of each case, there was a moot court. Very interactive class, all reading is online, super entertaining class (in my opinion). One of my favorite classes and professors I have had/taken at UGA!!!
Dr. Carmichael is one of the most engaging and caring professors I have had at UGA. I highly recommend her class for International Law. This class is group work heavy, but Dr. Carmichael makes sure that all members are participating and no one gets left behind.
Dr. Carmichael is nothing short of amazing. She is so good at taking complex topics and breaking them down to make the accessible. She also is always available for help and cares about all of her students.
Take Carmichael. No ifs, ands, or buts. She is literally the best professor I have had a UGA so far and she reaffirmed my passion for law. She's literally the reason I'm excited to apply to law school in the future. She is super informative when you ask her specific questions about the moot court, FUNNY, and is understanding. She is a must take.
International Law with Professor Carmichael was definitely the best class I have taken at UGA. Some of the work might seem like a lot, but you have a group that should pull their weight of it. The Moot Courts are super fun and epic. It's like the Star Wars Battlefront 2 of UGA classes. A definite must!
(for INTL 4230): Dr. Carmichael is awesome! Knows so much, great at keeping class interesting. Assigns a good bit of work on a week-to-week basis but doesn't grade anything harshly + there are no exams and no final, so it's a constant workload over the semester which is nice.
Dr. Carmichael is incredible! The class format is great, with no tests or finals. There are assignment due dates every week that we're responsible for completing. They can be content heavy, but she grades them reasonably. Class activities are fun & she values our feedback regarding assignments. She has a great sense of humor & makes class enjoyable
Dr. Carmichel is one of those professors who will greatly impact you. Her classes are always so interesting and she's so knowledgeable. She is also the director of active learning so she's constantly finding better ways for her students to learn. We did political simulations which has taught and prepared me far more than any class at UGA.
One of the best professors at UGA, very fun and helpful
Dr. Carmichael is the best professor I've had at UGA. If you're considering going to law school, TAKE INTL LAW. She teaches invaluable strategies that are essential to success in law school. While this class is a considerable amount of work throughout the semester, it is group work and enjoyable material. PICK A GOOD GROUP!
Dr. Carmichael sets you up for success in the real world. The model UN-like simulations in class are not only very useful but also fun. While there is a lot of week-to-week work throughout the semester, most can be completed during class time. No finals, no exams. Overall, a super fun and informative class. Carmichael truly cares about you!
THE best professor for this course. She is passionate about how she wants her students to succeed inside and outside of the course. Assignments are due like 20 minutes before the next class starts. Attendance might be mandatory after this semester because her lectures require the whole class to be interactive. Also, there are no finals or exams.
She is THE best teacher for this course. She is very flexible with communicating on how the class should be run. Everything is due before the next class. Participate and don't be afraid to ask questions. Make sure to read the course readers as they are crucial for the simulations. She gives feedback on assignments. Truly AMAZING PLEASE TAKE HER!
The class is entirely group work, so if you don't like your classmates the class is kind of bad. The moot courts we do for the class are very one-sided, and she also spoon-feeds you the content of the course like you're back in middle school. She is a very nice person, though.
This class is very enjoyable. It uses active learning so you really get to engage with the content. The class is an easy A as long as you put the work in. Dr Carmichael really knows what she is talking about, but she doesn't always teach the class, as it is really student-led. The material is based on current events making it entertaining!

(Last review was cut off) This class was one of the easiest I've taken at UGA, and although attendance isn't mandatory, if you don't show up you will screw over your peers. The class is easy and I ended up learning so much information than what I thought I would.
I had very little expectations going into Dr. Carmichael's class, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this course. She gives very clear assignments with clear deadlines, and you are expected to speak in class for the bi-weekly moot court format. This class will push you to speak, but she accommodates for students that may be shy.
TAKE THIS COURSE if you have a chance to take Dr. Carmichael DO IT. I loved this class and learned so much. It is not a lot of outside work and it makes a Tuesday-Thursday class fly by. Make sure you get a good group the first week because you will be with them a lot. Assignments are graded individually though. No exams. She is easy to reach.
Dr. Carmichael is an amazing professor, and the class has several simulations in each unit, where students are assigned countries or groups to represent Model UN style. Very fun and easy class as long as you show up, participate, and do the bare minimum. Take this class!
Attendance wasnt technically mandatory but to do well in the class you need to show up because it is all discussion style. Loved this class and professor. It was fun.
Carmicheal is very inspirational and I learned a lot and was very engaged in her class. The whole class is a big group project, attendance is not mandatory but you should show up to class or your group can get behind. There is a large amount of things to turn in every week but they aren't hard to do, just have to be good at remembering to do it.
CAN'T RECOMMEND HER ENOUGH! Dr. Carmichael is very well respected by everyone in the INTL department. Instead of lecturing us on global issues she simulates them in discussions with assignments done outside of class. Hardest was the policy brief which most kids averaged a B but it doesn't count for much of your grade so I still finished with a 98.
Dr.Carmichael is amazing at what she does. You'll be put into small groups at the beginning of the year and you complete 7 modules worth of simulations, no tests or papers AT ALL. The workload is super easy and each assignment doesn't take more than 30 minutes. Attendance isn't mandatory as long as someone from your group attends class that day.
This class is simulation based, meaning it centers around your group and interacting with other students. There is an assignment due every class which can be annoying sometimes (especially policy briefs), but you just have to stay on track, they're not actually hard. Dr. Carmichael makes the class interesting and entertaining.
I loved Dr. Carmichael so much and enjoyed her class this past semester. This is by far the easiest class I have taken (basically a free 100), but honestly was the most informative and useful. The grades for the class are basically all completion grades, and they are the assignments you do in class. Be ready to talk about serious current issues.
super easy very sweet women who babies you into college but in a good way she is awesome
Dr. Carmichael is very engaging and fun! She tried to keep our class as interactive as possible, and I would say she's a pretty easy grader. This class has about 5 assignments due per module which were pretty easy and fast.
I could not recommend this class enough. Lots of assignments but all are pretty easy and you get into the groove of doing them each week. We also ended before Thanksgiving. Her class was more focused on learning and application than memorization which was a great break. No tests so basically a free A unless you never go/do the work.
Dr. Carmichael is an amazing professor. Her Global Issues class is all simulation based in groups and is a great introduction to international affairs.
This class consisted of 35 assignments, split into 7 modules, each worth the same percentage of your grade. The GA who graded them was very harsh, but Dr. Carmichael obviously cares about her students and will do everything in her power to help them succeed, as long as they make an effort. She used active learning, so if that's your thing go for it
Dr. Carmichael's class is engaging and challenging. The moot courts push you to speak up, but she's accommodating. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for prep. Overall, a rewarding experience.
Carmichael is great! She is 1000% the best prof for global issues. Take her!
Amazing professor, who leads the Active Learning program at UGA and truly makes the otherwise-boring content into a fun and engaging time (in a good way). The class is very very easy, and the group mini-presentations are really easy to do and there is always healthy debate in the class on relatively current int'l issues/units
Carmichael is the best! If you have the opportunity to take her, please do, she's super knowledgeable and makes the class a safe space for discussions and arguments. Getting an A is easy if you put a little effort into the assignments but it's more fun for everyone if you also show up to class and participate.
Great Human Fun class just participate and pick a good group and you will be fine
I loved this class so much! I would take it a 100 times over. The only hefty assignment was a policy brief every 2 weeks which wasn't bad at all.
Take Dr. Carmichael! She is so empathetic and caring towards students. The entire semester consist of 7 modules, all have 5 assignments each. Only one assignment is somewhat hefty. Entire semester is group projects, so pick a good group of 4 and you should be fine! She is very engaging and this class ensured my interest in international affairs.
Amazing professor! I took her class and I loved it. Deadlines for her class are important (so no late work accepted) but she is very understanding and roots for students.
Literally perfect. I love her.
Perfect class and teacher for a first year student. She genuinely cares about the students and helps with their success both in class and outside. Class is almost entirely group work, and I would take only her as my professor if she taught other classes. Not taking her for this class would be a genuine mistake.
Honestly the best teacher you could possibly have. We have 5 assignments every two weeks and no tests. Also the PLA's were great which was a huge plus.
She was one of, if not my favorite, professors this semester. If you get the chance to take her for Global Issues, do it. She is also Director of Active Learning here at UGA, so she has access to all kinds of cool stuff. She's the goat.
Dr. Carmicheal's class was a great introduction to International Affairs. The class is based on Active Learning, so you'll be in a group of 4 the entire semester. Each module has the same assignments, with most being group work and two individual, overall an amazing class!
She is a great professor who really cares about learning. You spend the semester in real-life simulations instead of tests and quizzes. It is not an overwhelming amount of work, mostly just research, and no finals or midterms or anything. She is dedicated to international law and history, and is a great mentor to talk to. Take this class!!
Sweetest professor ever, very simple class, no tests or papers, just readings for the simulations and assignments to follow. 10/10 recommend.
Very easy class, no quizzes or tests, only simulations and a few online questions. Professor Carmichael is very caring, and this class is largely led by PLA's alongside students. Very easy GPA boost while also taking a class that is very interesting, as it covers real-world issues. 10/10 would take again.
