Likes to change syllabus mid-way through course. Far too slow in lectures. Excessive amounts of homework compared to other professors for how slow the class progresses.
changes syllabus multiple times through semester, moves very slow , excessive homework, often teaches wrong method of working out objectives and corrects herself through email.
least favorite professor. rather give up a toe than take another class by her. taught myself the lesson since she couldn't teach herself. its college algebra so it's pretty easy she just isn't good at teaching and isn't a good teacher. changes syllabus midway through the semester and goes off track way too much. better off with another professor.
She literally went so far out of her way to help all of the students that were willing. You put an effort into the class and she will put an effort into helping your grade. She cares so much for the students, she tries to draw some awkward analogies but sometimes they work. It's funny. She hates cell phones. Do your work, DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS!
She really cares, show up, do your work, do the practice problems and you'll ace it. Seriously do the practice problems though. Especially when it comes to tests... Like do them a million times before the test and they are almost identical, she changes a couple numbers around and that's all. If you can do the practice problems, you're golden!!!
Awesome professor. She went out of her way to help the students. Never changed the syllabus. She held many help sessions to help her students succeed and they really do help. My grade improved as I went to the help sessions.
Hollingsworth truly wants you to succeed. If you go to her for help, you should be fine. Do tons of practice problems!! Very nice, I am taking her again for pre calc.
Mrs. Hollingsworth is a great professor. She often stops during lectures to ask if anyone needs help&is very patient and attentive. Help sessions every week, or you can make an appointment which helped me a lot. She also is very quick to respond to emails. The lecture is easy to understand. Plenty of practice problems for extra credit.
As far as math professors go, she is a really great one. If you're thinking of taking her do it. She is always available for help if you really need it. She has a lot of patience, and has a sense of humor. She offers no extra credit but trust me, if you do all the homework for EACH SECTION you won't need it. She's that good.
Best math teacher I've had so far. Very patient, lots of help sessions so if you do bad it's your own fault. ONe homework assignment due a week can be done in 30 minutes. Very funny and sarcastic which makes the class enjoyable
Ms. Hollingsworth is a great professor who really works hard to see her students succeed. She often went through quizzes and tests prior to class and made study guides so we were all adequately prepared. If you go to lecture and do the work necessary you will do fine.
She genuinely cares about you passing. She tries to make the lectures as least boring as possible, but some people just aren't excited for math. The class covers a lot of material. Make the effort to learn and study and you will pass easily.
Extremely boring and dull. I wish she would be more enthusiastic or at east to pretend to care about her students. She explains herself ok. If you're good at math you'll pass but if not I'd recommend taking someone else.
Hollingworth is a great professor and definitely knows her stuff. She explains the material clearly and if you ever need help, she has tutoring hours. The class is lecture heavy and boring, but that's any typical math class. The class is very fast pace, so make sure to keep up with the material. Overall, she's very kind, smart and an amazing teacher
Occasionally funny but lectures are very slow and I struggle to focus after some time. I find it easier to learn from other math professors who are more fast-paced. Would recommend different professor if possible.
Very good professor! In class, learning all the new material is overwhelming for sure, but study outside of class to really understand it. DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS AND LAB/TEST REVIEWS!! Cannot stress how much the reviews help. She will also help outside of class, which is awesome! Math is not the easiest of subjects, so be proactive.
Hollingsworth's class is easy as long as you show up to class. She's also accommodating to if you have to miss anything. She responds to emails fast and also explains the material well.
So funny and really cares about her students. She really wants to make sure you understand the material and succeed. As long as you pay attention in class and do the practice quizzes/homework it's not too bad.
She is very helpful if you ask questions and explains things very well in class
This class consisted of 3 exams, a final, and a lab quiz once a week, plus homework quizzes due once a week. If you do all the practice quizzes (which you get bonus points for doing so) you should be able to pass the class. She's a fine teacher but our class was often behind so we had to cut some material out. She weighs the final to your benefit.
She is a great teacher if you show up and pay attention. People who complain about this class probably don't pay attention since the material is taught by her really well. DO the practice problems, they serve as extra credit. She is very nice and understanding
Awesome teacher and an awesome person! Go to her office hours and she will help you with whatever problem you're having. She wants everyone to succeed and truly cares about each student, which is rare in a large class. 100% recommend!
I love love this teacher. if you're taking MAC 1105 take her. She explains the problems very well and gives out bonus points for the practice quizzes. She does make attendance mandatory though but if you dont go to class its hard to pass. For this course though I would recommend outside tutoring but if you put the time in you can get an easy A
She cares a lot about her students. I was struggling and went to her tutoring sessions and she was very kind. She is good at explaining problems even in a big lecture class. If you do the work and study you will be fine.
Amazing teacher, will do EVERYTHING to help you. In class she always volunteers to put formulas and helpful notes online and has weekly tutoring sessions. The class is really easy, get to take HW quizzes every week but you have 3 times to get a 100%. Lab quizzes every week in lab, but they count the same as the HW quizzes.
I took Hollingsworth for MAC1105 and I really liked her! You have to actually do the practice problems and go to class to get an A, but the subject itself is pretty easy! She's very accommodating and helpful/responds to emails fast. She also provides online lecture for extra help which saved me!!
Awesome professor!!
THE BEST! Make sure to go to the target copy and print center and get her notes with a spiral binding. IT IS A LIFE SAVER. She is straight to the point and tells you what is on the exams. Super easy to follow along to and cares/is willing to help in office hours.
I really liked her. She was a good teacher and really cared about whether or not her students did well in the class. If you print out the Target print it makes the class 103090293 times easier and keeps you organized.
AWESOME professor, really cared about students. She will go out her way to help you. She is also lowkey funny which makes the dull subject bearable to sit through.
Great professor. Really clear and will answer any questions you have during class. Highly recommend taking for MAC 1105
This was the second time I took this course & Hollingsworth is THE BEST. She dumb's down every lecture making it impossible to not understand. Weekly HW quizes which you get 3 attempts on. She offers extra credit throughout the year & curves most tests. She is always willing to help and easy to get in contact with.
I hate math & was apprehensive about this class because I had to drop it the last time I took it. Hollingsworth is amazing & she just gets it. The homework quizzes are so helpful because they are just like the weekly lab quizzes. She is very approachable & she wants her students to succeed. If you are bad at math, I recommend taking it with her.
Hollingsworth is a great teacher. She really takes her time to explain to the students that dont understand and break it down in simple language. Her expectations are clear so you know what to expect for the semester.
Shes a great professor. I took her class at 9am and I was actually willing to go everyday. Makes the math understandable and if we have questions she answers them clearly.
Three tests and a bunch of quizzes but Hollingsworth lectures well. Show up and keep along with her in the outline and it's an easy A. She keeps track of attendance so make sure you go to class.
I would HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Hollingsworth. I took college algebra over the summer which is a pretty fast paced class. Math has never been my thing, but Hollingsworth makes it very possible to succeed in her class if you put in the effort by doing extra credit practices. She is also very willing to help students outside of class.
She is a great proffesor but the material is pretty difficult in my opinion and you have to work really hard for a good grade.
Ms. Hollingsworth is a great teacher. She is funny, caring, and will always try her best to explain something if you dont understand. There is a lab quiz and a homework quiz every week(all the 1105 classes do that). She takes attendance through learning catalytics where you put in the code at the beginning and end of the lecture. Easy A
Hollingsworth is the nicest math teacher I've ever had. She is really open to questions and explaining things so everyone understands. She has tons of help sessions and makes the content easy to understand, even for people that aren't good at math.
She was a really great teacher she would try to explain everything as best as she could and was very helpful. Super reliable -didn't miss a single class, showed up on time to every class and office hours, put reminders on canvas & before each lecture listed due dates and upcoming assignment., Attendance wasn't mandatory but it was extra credit.
Great choice for college algebra. Really cares for her students and will take time in class to answer questions or re-teach something that was blurry. As long as you take notes and do the homework quizzes you will do well on the tests. Her office hours are helpful as well, if you need extra help she is happy to assist!
Homework quizzes along with weekly lab quizzes. Attendance taken in beginning and end of class. Describes the material better than most profs with this class but it is fast paced!
Math kind of always sucks, but shes a pretty good teacher if you pay attention. We had one homework quiz a week as opposed to two or three, as Ive heard other College Algebra profs do. Highly recommend.
I have never been fond of any math, but she was an awesome professor for college algebra! You do have quizzes every week, but if you review the given material and lab quiz review you will be fine! Her outline she advises everyone to get is AMAZING! She goes through it and explains everything very well. She takes attendance every day, but is easy.
She has homework and lab quizzes every week. There are a lot of help sessions throughout the semester. Lectures are helpful and shes clear in explaining the content. Students dont have to be good at math to understand what she is saying, which is helpful.
If youre really bad at math, like me, take her. Shes willing to always help and is understanding of the fact that math isnt everyones strong suit. Her lectures really help cause she dumbs down math well enough that you can actually understand the material. I hate math and was shooting for a C- and she helped me get to that.
The clearest lectures of any math teachers I've ever taken. If you don't pass, its probably because you didn't try. At all.
Hollingsworth is such a caring professor and so sweet. She really wants her students to succeed. She is always available after class and has many help sessions. She gives extra credit for showing up and doing practice problems. I loved her, take her and you wont regret it. (I messed up on the final so ended up with a B, but had an A the whole sem)
She really made college algebra a breeze. Besides all the homework, she explained the material so well and had such a good system of how we took notes. If anyone had a question she would always thoroughly answer and explain what they were confused about.
Such a great gal. Seriously the nicest and funniest if you do what you r supposed to do. doesn't deal with people who are being extra and will 100% help you if you ask. not condescending when you ask questions and will explain things till you get them if you ask. holds weekly help sessions and normally curves the final. actually cares about u!!!
Ms. Hollingsworth truly cares about her students. She establishes her expectations and criteria at the very beginning of the course and as long as you show good work ethic and show up to class, she will help you out every step of the way. Very forgiving grader, allows multiple attempts to get a paper right and provides helpful feedback.
I'm not good with math, but her class was amazing! Clear expectations and structure from the get go. Always willing to answer questions and help in any way she can. She made lectures easy to follow and material easy to understand, and is really nice. If you do the work assigned, you can get an A easily. Really fair and overall great.
The only teacher is suggest taking for MAC 1105. She offers extra credit for practice problems and attendance that other professors dont and you WANT those points. Tests and final are worth a lot but class is easy as long as you dont slack off. She's funny while also making lectures informational. She truthfully is the best.
I was very anxious about taking this course and could not have had a better experience! Hollingsworth's class lectures teach you EVERYTHING you need to know for the weekly lab quizzes and exams. I was never good at math but the way she teaches algebra makes you learn it so well! Just make sure you go to all of your lab quizzes. Highly recommend!
This class was one of the best this semester. She does a great job explaining things, and has lots of times set up outside of class for extra help. She gives out lots of extra credit points and will sometimes curve tests. She's also really honest and entertaining during lectures.
Such a great professor!! Would 100% recommend and take her again. You need to buy the notebook she recommends because you will not pass without it. Shes amazing and definitely attend class because she explains everything really well. Her reviews are so helpful too. Do the work and youll pass.
Fast paced but good teacher. I struggled with the math lab quizzes and lab tests, but she provided many study resources.
Do not take this class over the summer, because she does move at a fast pace. We literally covered about 6 chapters in a day and had four quizzes per week. Overall she is a great prof. and I will take her class a thousand times again if I could. Just take her class during Fall/Spring term if possible.
this is the best math teacher I have ever had. she explains things fast but well. she has office hours and help hours and is extremely helpful during both. ive never been good at math and I have gotten some good grades so far because of her help.
The most helpful math teacher ever for a class that everybody dreads. You get points for coming to class and doing extra practice. The class takes work, but Hollingsworth does everything possible to help.
Best math class I've ever taken. Professor Hollingsworth is great at teaching the subject and makes learning math a piece of cake. There is always SO MUCH extra credit that also helps with understanding the subject matter. Tests and quizzes are easy as long as you study. Ended the class with an A+. Would definitely take again.
Leah is so sweet and her class is the best math I've ever taken. She really wants you to do well and gives so many opportunities to raise your grade! Attendance is not graded but it is extra credit and if you don't show up you probably won't do very well. Go to class, take notes, do the review she gives for tests and you will get an A.
She makes sure you know the material and it's easy to get an A if you put in the effort. She gives so many extra credit opportunities and the LA's are helpful. 10/10 recommend.
I loved her lectures. She does problems in class going step by step and explaining it. The only homework you get is HW quizzes that you can retake so those are easy A's. Each week there's a quiz identical to the HW quizzes and plus she makes reviews for them so you should be fine. The final is worth a lot but with the reviews you'll be fine.
I cannot express my love for Dr.H enough. Y'all I'm serious, if you're reading this, TAKE HOLLINGSWORTH!! I have been terrible at math my entire life due to terrible teachers, and let me just say, Dr.H's class caught me up on everything! I got A's on 2/3 exams, A's on hw quizzes, and an A on the final! Amazing professor and amazing person.
Dr. Hollingsworth is amazing. I've always been so bad at math, but she was able to explain concepts well in a simple manner that I understood. I got A's on every exam by going to class and doing the homework ahead of time. Put in the time to practice and review for quizzes and you'll be fine!
I loved Hollingsworth's class! She was so thorough and would work out little things other math professors tend to skip over, which was really helpful! I never felt lost in her class, and felt prepared for quizzes from her practice tests! As always, math takes some practicing, but I found it to be relatively easy because of her teaching/resources!
She is really nice. I have never been good at math but I was able to get an A without too much stress. Going to class is the key, before Covid she had group work once a week so that she and LAs could gauge everyone's understanding. She also has tutoring hours outside of class and is very sweet and helpful.
I have always been bad at math but Mrs. H does everything in order for her students to succeed. You can tell she really cares about her students and offers as much extra help and extra credit possible. Her lectures are well paced and she always answers questions so everyone understands. Couldn't reccommend her enough
Leah is a amazing professor. I understood each topic we discussed in class. We had 4 exams and a quiz every week in the lab. Attendance is mandatory and she assigns class activities that you have to submit at the end of class. I recommend her 100% especially if math isn't your best subject.
Dr. Hollingsworth is such a great teacher! I completed the course for Summer C remotely due to the Coronavirus & the instructor was always so helpful. Dr. Hollingsworth cares about her students & is always there to assist in anyway! I learned so much in her class & would def want her as my instructor for any math-related course!
This was my first class at FSU and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to take it. Coming out of high school I really struggled with math. I took this class online due to COVID, but no matter what Dr. Hollingsworth made an effort to help her students. She is very understanding and will gladly help you if you reach out to her. 10/10 the best!!!
Dr. Hollingsworth is a great prof, but she's a math teacher so of course not everyones going to like the class. As long as you stay on top of your assignments the class will be fine.
Easy A over the summer semester even with it being remote learning.
She's fine at teaching college algebra, but is very petty and rude. I had to beg her to raise my grade (89.1) after I got a few points off of a test for uploading the work to Canvas 40 minutes after finishing it. I explained that I had a new computer that wasn't connected to the scanner at my house yet since I was at school all year until COVID-19.
Hollingsworth is an amazing professor. It always seems a little distant when you're in huge classes but she gives so many opportunities to meet one on one, and the LA program is amazing. If you ever get a chance to take this class do it! As long as you put some effort in you'll do amazing! She is the most caring professor I have had at FSU.
Dr. Hollingsworth is an alright professor. She seems bored in her lectures and doesn't seem to enjoy teaching. Labs are run only by her TAs. Tests however are open note. She provides the note in the beginning of the semester. Tests are not very difficult.
She is the best to take for college algebra. Her lectures are very clear and understandable. I have never had an A in a math class before her. Highly reccomend.
Prof Hollingsworth is the absolute best. Pay attention to what she says in the lectures and make sure to read the test instructions/announcements and you'll get an A. I joined the class late and was able to catch up so fast thanks to Hollingsworth. Quizzes and tests are open-note with one final exam at the end of the semester.
Dr. Hollingsworth has been amazing! Super easy class, just have to watch the weekly lectures , do the weekly homework assignment and there were a total of 3 tests plus the final. Very simple and straightforward overall. Enjoyed this class a lot this semester!
Just do the work and you'll be fine. Tests are open note and super easy. She provides the notes for the semester that you can print. Just make sure to pay attention to deadlines and her instructions. I didn't interact with her at all but her lectures were easy to understand and she seems nice.
She was a great teacher! She posts videos instead of lectures which makes class much more flexible but the videos are very clear and informative. There is usually a mandatory lab each week that has you work with groups that is easy and helpful. Offers many help sessions and extra credit. I definitely suggest taking her for this class.
PROFESSOR HOLLINGSWORTH IS A PHENOMENAL TEACHER! Its math so you cant expect it to be FUN, but what you can get from taking this class is KNOWLEDGE and an EASY course- taught asynchronously with one weekly lab a week. Her lectures were easy to follow and the hw was extremely helpful for exams, which were open note. Easy A & SO much extra credit
Hollingsworth is an AMAZING professor. The class is asynchronous, theres a quiz every week (you can take up to 3x), a lab every week (super easy), and a test per unit (3) and the final. If you need any help she will help, also there's SO MUCH extra credit. I enjoyed this class so much, it was very simple, and the lectures are clear.
The lecture videos were her following her notes and working out problems, which for me was a great way to learn. You have weekly lectures, notes to upload, and a quiz, but it does not take too long! Her tests and finals were not awful either, she does not make the problems harder than the stuff you see on the notes.
I am late but I took her for the fall semester and she was AMAZING !! She had recorded videos, color-coded, had a live help option, super friendly, understandable, answer emails fairly fast. I can not stress enough how much I loved taking her class and I do not even like math and I passed. She provided interactive assignments and extra credit.
Professor Hollingsworth made clear expectations of the work done on her students part. As long as you pay attention and watch her lectures you will guaranteed pass the class.
The lecture is so informational and she goes into great detail explaining the content. There is a lot of help from her and the TA's. Multiple study sessions are available as well as reviews for quizzes and tests days before the exam. She really cares about your grade and your learning which is very helpful.
Dr. Hollingsworth is amazing. I had a hard time in Algebra in high school, but her lectures are super detailed and she goes over material thoroughly. Make sure to do the worksheets that she gives in class and to take the practice test multiple times... they are exactly like the test. Go to her study halls and office hours if you are confused!!!
Such an amazing professor. The class structure is set up for success; she gives reasonable assignments for students to bring up their grades. She's always there for her students outside of class, whether that's an individual zoom or help sessions. Whether you succeed is based on you, because she gives u all the resources you can get. Great class
One of the best math teachers I have had. If you have a fear of math, she will make you learn to get over it and love it. She makes you feel confident when it comes to math. Hollingsworth is also very kind and really helps if you don't understand something. With all this being said, if you put in the work and effort, you will pass with an A+.
tbh. If you have any background in math this class should be a breeze. I think the lectures and pre-class videos set a realistic idea of what questions will be asked for the test and quizzes. Even though attendance is mandatory, you can work you way around it once you sign up for pearson. I highly suggest her!
Loved this prof. Class is lecture where she goes through problems and actually does a good job explaining. Has the outline online for free so easy to follow along. Lots of office hours and review sessions available. Quiz or test every week (in lab), but it's clear what will be on them. HW due every Sunday for each lesson covered that week.10-15 q's
I personally really enjoyed her class. It was really straightforward and the homeworks were just like the quizzes and tests.
Teaches very well. Always willing to help you. Class structure is very clear.
Prof. Hollingsworth makes class mandatory even as she records each lecture, and she gets super angry if you leave class early for any reason. She accuses students of cheating on homework and even resorts to reporting students if they answer homework questions too fast. Simple class turned nightmare. Take her class only if you wanna go back to HS.
Dr. Hollingsworth's class was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The homework system is easy to understand and can be very helpful since it is taken on ALEKS. Her tests and quizzes (which are on ALEKS) follow exactly what is learned in class and assigned through homework. She is super sweet and very approachable. Highly recommend!
She is super nice and answers emails quickly however what I do not like about the class is sometimes I feel rushed. She likes to rush notes and not finish the notes in order to do a class activity personally I rather learn all the material first than do an activity. It really bothers me that she does this.
She’s very nice and willing to help you with your grades and what you dont understand, class can be tough
Going into this class, I had forgotten all basic math principals but this class was made easy by a great teacher. The homework is exactly what we covered in class and there were many help sessions made available. The only downside to this class is that attendance was mandatory even though lectures were posted online.
The best math teacher I've ever had. She teaches concepts super well and provides tons of examples. Attendance was mandatory but she also posted the lectures online which was nice. All homework, quizzes, and tests were done through ALEKS.
Prof. Hollingsworth is the best math teacher I have ever had. I came into this class worried because I forgot everything from HS math but she makes it super easy. She also is so willing to help anyone who needs it. The test are almost word for word the reviews so she tries to help us out for sure. 100 % recommend this class She's the best!!!!
Genuinely the best math teacher I have ever had. She really cares about her students success and wants to do everything she can to ensure you get the grade you want. Workload is decent but the learning platform is really helpful. Homework/quizzes/tests are exactly like what she teaches during lecture. Highly recommend!
She genuinely cares for her students and is always there when/if you need help. Definitely take advantage of office hours and study sessions if you are struggling and overall she is one of the best teachers ever! Will give you the best foundation for other math classes!!
She was the reason why I passed College Algebra. She honestly was the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Especially with math. You will have homework due every Sunday, but it's to be expected in a math class. The homework is VERY easy, clear, and helpful. If you stay on top of work you will get an A. The way she reached was chef kiss.
She is the best professor I have had. She really cares about making sure you do the best you can. Although she says she does not drop any quizzes or test, she bumped my grade from a B+ to an A because I had one test that was bad. She has reviews that are exactly like the test and quizzes. She also gives extra credit for each test. She was so nice!
Professor Hollingsworth is by far the best MAC1105 teacher. She explains the math really well and all of the quizzes and homework are through ALEKS which makes it simple, since you already know what you're getting into every night. She is a really genuine lady and seems like she wants to get to know all of her students outside of class.
I LOVE LEAH! She is amazing at explaining the concepts and the homework isn't bad. Super easy class and leah makes it 10x better
I loved this professor. She was so understanding and willing to work with me when I had conflicts. She offers extra credit and wants her students to succeed. Her notes are also easy to follow along with. The tests and quizzes are the majority of your grade so it's very important to get As on them which makes it a little harder.
One of the best professors I have had at FSU. Although there is a lot of homework, it is very manageable. Quizzes and tests are THE EXACT SAME as the reviews, so as long as you master the reviews you are good. Do not take any other professor for MAC 1105, because Hollingsworth is the best!!
Best MAC 1105 teacher at FSU. As somebody who has always been horrible at math, she makes the material easy to learn and she gives extra credit on tests for attending reviews. The lecture outline is so important for the class $16 or a free pdf you can print or download on an iPad. The only downside is the LA's have no clue and can barely help you.
Professor Hollingsworth is one of the kindest profs out there! You can really tell she cares for her students and wants them to succeed. She lectures clearly and does go fast at times but will slow down if you ask. There is a quiz/test every week but they are very similar to the homework. For someone who is not good at math I ended with a B +
She is literally the best professor as FSU. She is very caring for her students and genuinely wants everyone to do well. I can't say enough good things about her! 100% take her for college alg!
Dr.Hollingsworth is a true gem of FSU Mathematics. If you are an OAS student she is very flexible and completely understands any problem that may occur. She truly cares about every single one of her students and will always lend a helping hand. I enjoyed every lecture she held, no matter how difficult the material.
She's good at teaching, and multiple things that would not have stuck in my head without her offering something funny to memorize them with. However. The level of respect she has for her students is practically nonexistent, and that is a deal-breaker for me when it comes to "good professors." The last thing I would call her is caring.
Best math teacher ever. She made the content super easy to understand and held help sessions throughout the week.
Goes really in depth with lectures, doesn't give too much homework. Gives some extra credit but it does not do much tbh. Has a lot of ways you can get help with ta's and stuff. Tests are worth a lot, but the weekly quizzes don't do much. Just do the homework and you will be fine. Math is my worst subject and this was an enjoyable class.
Best math teacher I have ever had. She is honestly the best. Being dyslexic and having ADHD means math can get tricky, but I learned and enjoyed it! She is the first person to make math make sense. There are SO many resources to help you, from reviews, just like the quizzes & tests, to TAs being involved in the class for your help. She is the best
Professor Hollingsworth taught very well. Although there is homework due every Sunday and a quiz every week, she gives so many resources like reviews to make sure you are prepared for the quizzes/tests. There are also extra credit opportunities. Attendance was mandatory but as long as you follow along with the lectures you should be totally fine.
Very enjoyable class. Dr. Hollingsworth makes the subject very easy to understand and often provides ways to remember otherwise difficult concepts, often through goofy anecdotes. Don't miss classes since attendance is important to learn new material.
Hollingsworth is the best professor. She is super straightforward and very good at teaching math. She is also very understanding and provides multiple extra credit opportunities for students. If you follow along with her lessons and keep up with your homework you will do well in this class.
BEST professor at fsu. class was so easy and hollingsworth is so understanding if you have any issues. you can tell she really cares about her students.
Prof Hollingsworth saved my math skills. I'm not kidding. I always did poorly in math in highschool, but prof Hollingsworth makes everything so clear and straightforward. She explains math in a language people who aren't good at math can understand. She also gives extra credit + is an extremely generous rounder
Still one of my best professors at FSU. Don't miss out on Professor Hollingsworth! I've always disliked math and her class made me excited about it (weird, right). No one lectures as she does and wants you to learn like she does. She is SUPER accessible and helps you prepare for quizzes/tests in a million ways. Not a bad thing about this class.
Math was literally my biggest enemy up until I took this class. Professor Hollingsworth is like the math teacher I never had! She makes the material so easy to understand and I love how she takes the time to answer any questions. There is homework and a quiz every week, but I promise that they are easy to complete if you show up to lecture.
Dr. Hollingsworth is probably one of the best math teachers I've ever had. I've never been a math person, but she actually makes math feel doable. She also posts videos of the in class lectures and they're really helpful for the days you skip. There are quizzes every week but they aren't weighted too heavily and are pretty manageable.
Dr. Hollingsworth is an amazing professor. She makes a large auditorium and a subjectively bland subject into a really great experience. She is encouraging and helpful. She prepares you with all of the information that you need in order to be successful in her class. Highly recommend, I would definitely take this class again.
i really liked my experience with professor hollingsworth. she really tries her best to make sure you understand the material and there are lots of extra credit opportunities. she is super sweet and sincere and just really wants to make sure you succeed. loved her!
Best math teacher I've had so far. Genuinely knows how to teach math topics and wants her students to be successful. Uses the ALEKS program (mandatory) and she has all the homework, test reviews, exams through it. DO THE REVIEWS. There is a 10 question quiz every week & TopHat for attendance + participation questions. 3 Exams and a Final.
Great teacher! Was very helpful and patient with all the students.
Do hwk = get good grades. Simple.
Took this course over 6 week summer course and she really made it easy for her students and cared about grade for the student. As long as you attend the lectures and do all the homework you should make a great grade in this class.
Her goal when teaching is to destigmatize math and make it not as unbearable, especially for students who didn't have amazing teachers in high school. I am so glad that I took this class with her. She deserves all the praise she gets. She is funny, smart, and compassionate. Also, she does have rules about extentions and late work that she follows.
Super sweet and funny, and puts in a lot of effort to make the material understable. Also, there are so many opportunities to get help if you are struggling!
Dr. Hollingsworth was the best math teacher I have had. I am an English major and I was dreading taking College Algebra but her lectures were great and I could tell she cares. I thought the class was easy but maybe thats because I already took algebra in high school. I recommend buying the packet of notes because it makes it easier to follow along.
Class is super easy, she cares about the students and offers plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get extra help. If youre a STEM major though, do yourself a favor and test out of this class. 95% of incoming STEM freshmen won't even need to attend lectures to understand the material, and sometimes going to them confused me.
dr. hollingsworth is amazing. the class is big but it all feels very personalized. she actually takes time to answer questions if you have them and does lots of practice problems so you really understand and she uses fun examples. there's plenty of LA/TA help and outside of class help opportunities. would 1000% take this class again
Best math teacher I have ever had. She uses ALEKS and you do have to pay for it. She also takes attendance with tophat. But she genuinely cares about your grade and if you understand what she is teaching. Love her!
Professor Hollingsworth was amazing. Math has never been one of my strengths, but she explained the topics and objectives in a way that was very easy to understand. There are three exams and weekly quizzes, but if you do the reviews they help tremendously. You can also get extra credit by attending LA help sessions. I highly recommend her!
Dr. Hollingsworth is great! I've ALWAYS struggled with math, and this class was no different, but she makes it as not sucky as possible. Her lectures really explain the material well and gives extra credit if you go to help sessions. There's a weekly quiz plus homework, and three exams. Definitely buy the lecture notes, they are so helpful.
She's a great teacher and takes the time to thoroughly explain each topic. Attendance is mandatory but a very small part of your grade. Decent amount of homework on aleks but it never took me very long and it boosts your grade. Tests and quizzes aren't very hard as long as you study and pay attention in class.
Dr. Hollingsworth is a great professor. Had I been doing better mentally/was actually good at math, that grade would probably be an A+ (but that's on me). Her lectures are the best I have ever attended, and she is very on top of things and an awesome person overall. Both me and my friends have taken her class and would do it again.
This instructor is condescending and unprofessional. I have spoken with her in person and via email, and her character was no different. I even witnessed her yelling at someone over the phone. Her lectures are okay, but I can't learn from someone that treats people the way she's treated me and others.
I LOVE this professor. She teaches very slowly and ensures that you understand the math. I wish i could take business calc with her because she is so good at teaching and her methods are very useful. the class is easy and goes at a very reasonable pace. Definitely buy the workbook at the bookstore!
Her lectures are all over the place. Sometimes she will talk about her personal life. She forgets where to start the next day. She even contradicted herself in the notes saying that they were wrong. It left me very confused. I could still get a good grade, but I spent most of my time watching youtube videos to figure out what she was rambling about
Dr Hollingsworth has been one of my favorite teachers. she has a set of notes you need to follow, but there's no other textbook apart from that. there was a quiz every week but she would assign homework due before the quiz so it was an easy A.
I would 100% recommend her! I have never been good at math, but Dr. Hollingsworth made the content really easy to digest. She also offers up to 200 points of extra credit so it's hard not to do good in her class, for the most part. I would suggest staying ahead on homework though, it starts getting heavier towards the middle/end of the semester.
Hollingsworth is great. She has several LAs per class and they are all amazing, very kind and understanding. Reviews are available a week before any quiz/test with unlim. attempts. She offers help sessions and LA help sessions that are extra credit. Assignments in TopHat and ALEKS but they are very manageable and helpful. Lecture outlines on canvas
Professor Hollingsworth is one of the best professors I have had! She offers a lot of help to her students, she truly cares about them! There can be a lot of homework so start on it early rather than leaving it for last minute. There is a quiz every week, they can range from 10-13 questions but she gives reviews. Overall great class :)
She is a good professor who explains the problems pretty well and the class is pretty easy except for one or two concepts I struggled with. She was really rude to me one day and is HELL bent on making sure every student comes to class and stays there. If she would relax on that she would be amazing.
Easily one of my favorite math teachers ever. I typically despise math, but the way she taught was so clear that I was motivated in her class, which I think is one of the most important parts. Good amount of homework, but vital to do it for the tests, all of the same material that goes onto the reviews, then same stuff on the tests. Loved her!
Honestly, she's not that bad of a teacher. Math just isn't my subject. Her class is very boring though. But she gives a lot of extra credit and chances so its not too difficult of a class.
Straightforward class, you will learn college algebra but not much else will stick with you.
Professor Hollingsworth's class can be a mixed bag, but overall she's a decent teacher. The lectures can be a bit dry, but she explains concepts clearly. Make use of the review sessions and resources like unstuck AI - they really help prepare for the tests.
Overall an amazing teacher! She gives out a lot of extra credit and she's extremely helpful! She explains every topic so well and I passed every single test and quiz because she provides a review!
As long as you actually make an effort to understand in class you should be fine. I suck at math that's the only reason i had such a low grade, but if you do average in math then you will be all good. She posts reviews for every quiz and test and I just did them over and over again until I understood the material.
Professor Hollingsworth has helped me understand everything I used to struggle with. She posts her lectures afterwards and provides ample resources to get extra help. Her quizzes and tests are almost identical to the practice ones and the homework is not bad at all. Definitely not a class to be scared of if you have struggled with math in the past.
Seriously the best Math Professor ever. I understood everything she taught because of the way she taught it, she gave extra credit for attending LA help sessions, and she is amazing at responding to emails. I lucked so much having her freshman year and I recommend her to everyone!!!
She gives lots of easy extra credit and has lots of resources to help struggling students. I have never been great at math but easily got an A. You just need to practice the test reviews, which are essentially the tests (obviously different questions).
Great professor who actually explains material and makes it easy. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Would take this class again in a heartbeat
Hollingsworth is a great professor. Seriously the best math teacher I've ever had. She explains things in a way that is so easy to understand coming from someone who always struggled with math. Quite a bit of homework but it's very easy and manageable. I will always recommend her for anyone taking 1105.
Awesome professor! Made math very understandable as someone who is not great at math. A bit of homework due every week on Sundays, but manageable. Very kind and considerate of students.
She is so amazing! She is incredibly clear. I promise that you just have to show up, pay attention at least half of the time, do the homework (like, actually do it), and you will do great!!
It's like a highschool course and teacher. With that Dr. Hollingsworth is caring when you talk to her and cares about your learning. Homework and quiz every week with extra credit every day if you go to tutoring. Very easy to pass.
great professor overall, she makes things super easy. i mean the class is super easy anyways but she makes it easier
This class is easy. She does a good job of explaining types of problems that will show up on weekly quizzes and tests too. The homework is easy. Just do the quiz/test reviews until you get an 100 and you will do great on the assessments. It's algebra, you got it.
Dr. Hollingsworth is pretty serious and very good at what she does! Lectures were fast-paced but I never fell behind. Offered extra credit for going to LA help sessions. There are lab quizzes on the content every week. DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES! It helps a lot!
I could tell that she genuinely cared for her students. The class material was super easy. You will be fine as long as you just go to class.
Did a great job of explaining the material in a beginner-friendly way and was overall very helpful. Although I felt like the course material was generally pretty easy, it was clear that she was very willing to give extra help if/when needed. She gives test/quiz reviews that are optional but are almost identical to the actual tests and quizzes.
Absolutely fantastic professor for College Algebra! She explains even the most challenging concepts with clarity and patience. She's always available during office hours to provide support and offers extra credit opportunities to help students succeed. So kind, approachable, and truly invested in her students. Highly recommend.
Professor Hollingsworth is a down to Earth and all around great teacher. She is very nice and caring about the students. She offers extra credit and the class is easy. HW due on Sunday through Aleks, tests are on Tuesday like once a month, quizzes on the lab days Tuesday, and there is a participation paper with at most three math problems.
I hate math but loved this class! Unless you're already pretty good at algebra you will have to study a decent amount, but overall an A is achievable. Every class is worth 2 points, so if you miss a few it's not a huge deal. Go to ACE tutoring and help sessions and you should do well!
Attendance is mandatory but everything that is taught in class is on the exams. There are weekly quizzes and the grade is test heavy. She is super helpful if you are having trouble and she offers extra credit if you attend review sessions for the weekly quizzes
Super sweet and very helpful. She makes sure everyone understands and goes in depth for harder concepts. Great teacher.
DO THE REVIEWS! Go to ACE tutoring. Hollingsworth will give you the grade you deserve. I have never been good at math and was super nervous about this class but right now I'm at a high B and will hopefully end with an A. If you actually try you'll do fine. It's really not a hard class. I'm horrible at math and am ending with a B+/A-. Take it!
Dr. Hollingsworth is so kind and is great at making lectures easy to understand. She is so sweet and truly cares about her students. The class itself is laid out great and you will do great as long as you try to learn.
Hollingsworth is a kind and caring soul. Loves her students and their growth above all else. Easy class overall - extra credit offered in the form of tutoring sessions. DO THE REVIEWS! The actual quizzes and exams have the exact material. Given her excellent instruction and the resources available, you should not do bad in this class.
wow; this professor is truly amazing. i am so glad i took this class with her. As someone who has struggled with math my whole life, I've finally understood more algebra than I ever have. she offers up to 200 points of Extra credit accounted towards weekly quizzes and offers every needed resource to succeed. If you try you will do good.
I'm really bad at math. Like could not receive A's no matter how hard I tried. Until this class! Dr. Hollingsworth is caring and truly wants to see you succeed. The reviews are just like the quizzes and tests, just with different numbers. Do them and you'll get an A. If you go to office hours you get extra credit. Great class!
If you hate math or have never been good at it but need a math credit, take MAC with Dr.Hollingsworth! She makes every objective extremely easy to understand + many extra credit opportunities, truly cares about the success of her students.I suck at math and didn't think I'd get an A but she makes everything so easy to understand. TAKE HER CLASS.
She was an average teacher overall. I had to teach myself most of the material because her lessons were either too long to finish on the test or unclear. After a tragic incident on campus, she became difficult to work with—unaccommodating and unfairly selective about who received grade boosts.
Dr. Hollingsworth is so caring and an amazing professor! The quizzes and tests are EXACTLY like the reviews. If you're struggling, go to the help sessions for EC. She was also extremely sweet after a very traumatic event that happened on campus; I was one of just a couple of people to show up to class the next week, and she gave me the biggest hug.
I have never been good at math but Professor Hollingsworth was the best.
She was amazing and I 100% recommend taking her for any math course. She was very good at explaining the content and preparing you for weekly quizzes/tests. The course is little much with the homework, but it isn't hard just tedious.
Professor Hollingsworth is amazing. I have taken a number of math classes through high school and she has by far been the most clear with her expectations while also making sure we learn the material. She sets up the class for you top succeed, you just need to put the work in.
Super sweet teacher, very helpful, and caring.
Professor Hollingsworth teaches the material in a straightforward manner. She provides ample extra credit opportunities that double as sessions meant to help students. Content is divided per week in a way that is easily digestible and makes sense. I have never felt overwhelmed by the material, and homework is relatively light.
genuinely such a great professor if you struggle with math! attendance is mandatory, but she posts lectures online if you ever do miss class, and she offers so many extra credit opportunities with help sessions
She is very considerate of her students. Her reviews are exactly like the tests and quizzes. She wants her students to do well. If you try in this class, it should not be hard.
She is very understanding and a great person. Attendance is not a huge part of your grade but it is graded. She is very good at teaching and grades very fair. The reviews are similar to the test and studying those will prepare you. She doesn't try to trick and is well-liked l. A great professor, I recommend if you struggle in math.
Definitely take this class especially if you struggle with math. Quizzes and tests are the same as the reviews so they're easy to study for. She has tons of help sessions and it's extra credit if you attend them. Attendance is worth 4% of your grade so you can get away with not going to lectures if you do well on your assignments.
Her class perfectly outlined and she gave amazing lectures. Plus she was funny.
Dr. Hollingsworth is AMAZING!! If you have to take MAC1105, take it with her!!! I wish she could teach all of my math classes! She offers extra credit if you attend help sessions and genuinely wants you to do WELL! Lab quizzes every week. If you do the practice quizzes and homework assignments, you will do well on tests and quizzes. She's the BEST!
Dr. Hollingsworth is one of my favorite math teachers I've ever had! Her lectures are easy to follow and the course expectations are very clear. ATTEND THE HELP SESSIONS!!! They are a great opportunity to get extra credit, ask questions, and work on your homework. She explains concepts very well if you are confused. 10/10 recommend!
