HARD! keeps you ENTIRE class! Drills u in front of class if you were absent or did not turn in weekly assignment. Expects way too much!
She is hard, but you will learn a lot from her. She is dedicated to her students. For those who complain about doing work or having to stay the entire class, wake up! This is college! If you want to learn, take a class with Professor Nou.
By far the worst teacher... She has mood swings and expects too much. Her lectures are way boring. This lady just reads from the book. DONT TAKE HER!
Course is not too hard. Prof. really nice and maintains an open and friendly line of communication with students.
Class not hard. Lectures book info. No good at clarifying questions often confuses students more. Will hold up class to call out late students or go looking for them if gone too long. Tries too hard to be liked, constantly points out her efforts instead of focusing on the teaching. This is her first semester, maybe she'll relax by next one.
Prof. has lots of knowledge of subject. Outlines provided 4 every class. They R helpful & cover info from books to make studying less stressful. It's a SR. level course so expect it to be difficult. Show up 2 class, listen in lecture, review handouts & readings thoughly. You should do well. She wants all 2 do well & makes that clear from day one.
She is full of energy. She is fun, and has a great sense of humor. She is concern about her students, which I think is great. She is a nice teacher and very helpful. I have learned a lot in her class.
She only has bad remarks in the beginning cause she wasn't good in the beginning. Her class is cake if you GO! one weekly paper(so simple), and a group and indiv. project. She's fun and wants you to have fun with her. She should wise up to CSULB by next semester. I'd take her again. She's just new.

The work required is similar to any upper division course-make sure you study ALL details of the course concepts for the tests. Her lectures aren't extemporaneuos; she reads the book verbatim. She brings her emotions into the classroom and lacks the connection, compassion and effectiveness that so many professors on this campus have.
I think initially yeh, she rubbed people the wrong way but as you get to know HER and communicate with her, she is actually really nice. She is fair on her grading and is really flexible. If anyone decides to take her class in the future ( which I recommend )it is fun, interesting, and applicable in daily life. I would definantly take her again.
Professor Nou is an intelligent and caring individual. I think she is great with all her students and shows a great deal of enthusiams in her teaching. I really enjoy her class. I can honestly say that I have learned and applied a lot of the concepts that I have learned in her class.
This was my 1st semester at csulb, and I have to say that she has by far been the best instructor I have had. She takes off a huge load by making outlines of the Ch.'s and is clear, and really easy to talk to. She makes class fun, with her personal stories and touch. She really cares about her students, and she is a veryyyy fair grader!

At the start she seemed overwhelming, but once you get to know her, she is hilarious! She really wants you to learn and always cares about our opinion (which most teachers do not do) I would for sure take her again.
Haters need not apply. Professor Nou is a new teacher at CSULB, no one expects her to be perfect, her lectures in the beginning were informative and well structured, but missed personality. She now adds aneqdotes of her own to and more interaction with her students. She is more than fair and I look forward to future classes with her. Well done.
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in all my years here at Long Beach State. Her expectations are unclear;lectures are boring; and she has control issues. By the way, she read a negative message on here before and asked our class to write something nice to counter-argue it. Confidence issues or what? You don't want a teacher like that.

Professor Nou is a good instructor. I'm taking her again for another class. She is interested in her students education and her lecture notes really help prepare for the tests. Overall, no complaints.

Extremely unclear!! She frustrated me. Her expectations are outrageous, tons of reading to do and only 2 tests a semester, so when the test comes you are reviewing about 7 huge chapters!! Beware!!! and STAY AWAY!
Very unclear about what is due when. She is constantly changing her mind about about projects that are due. Decided half way through the semester to not use 1 book (4 books are required). Class is only out of 100 points, basically if you don't do good on the mideterm and research paper, you won't pass. Hard teacher, doesn't seem knowledgeable.

Half the class dropped and she got the clue that maybe she should lighten up...a little too late after spending over 200 dollars in books u didnt need! i was excited about the topic and now i will stay away for sure! The assignment requirements change daily, and she reads straight from the book. The exams are fairly difficult unless you actually study the book. They are directly from the book. I hated her at first, but when I went to talk to her she is very kind and concerned about her students. She genuinely was there to help me bring my grade up!
BAD BAD BAD, she never knows what she’s talking about. She makes mistakes and is oblivious to classes needs. Grades r out of 100 points so impossible to get a good grade if you mess up even a bit. She is a good professor; at the beginning it was a little tough to get to know her style, but once adapting to it, she's great. She's very reasonable! The comments below are from previous semesters when she was still very NEW.
her lectures are on a powerpoint and she goes through them very fast its a little hard trying to write down everything. the powerpoint info is taken out of the book so if you miss class or not write down the lecture you could still pass her exams. she gives points for attendance so dont miss class. public speaking will be required.
Very adaptive teaching style. Also very open and willing to help students. Has a very busy lifestyle, but is still prepared for class and will go out of her way to help her students. Will make you work, but if you show the effort you will do well. I'd say one of the best professors I've had.
Shes an awsome professor! I HIGHLY recomend her. Her lectures are fun and have up to date example of real life. The class requires you to read and do your work, but youll have a blast doing it.

This professor is the best! She cares a lot for her students. Her lectures are entertaining.
Wonderful instructor. She goes through the lecture extremely fast, but whatever you miss you can get out of the book. No extra credit available so every point helps (attendance, weekly journals). I would definitely recommend her. I hate extreme feminists, but I was able to manage this class as she is not too extreme in her views.
Her lectures are straight out of the book. You have to write weekly experientials for the class. The group project is easy, but she grades hard on the paper. Her tests are mixed multiple choice and short answer/essay, but they can be hard.
She only lectures on tuesdays, and assigns 1 page papers due every thursday (15 total) her study guides are terrible. She assigns a 7-10 page research paper and grades hard. She penalized me for having too much research. Class wasnt too hard though. Shes too by-the-book. Class is out of 100 pts. I got 89% and she didnt give me an A
only teaches 1 time a week, and uses the other class meetings for group discussions. class grades are out of 100 pts 2 tests (30pts each) paper 15 pts, 15 weekly papers 1 pt each attendance 5 pts group skit 5 pts. she had poor study guides and she was very strict. she will NOT boost ur grade even if your half of a point from a higher grade
She goes through the lectures very quickly. The study guide is pretty much the lectures verbatim. Also, she did not give enough class time for groups to work on the group project. Attendance is graded.
Her lectures were straight from the book. She copied and pasted material and just read it off a power point. People around me actually fell asleep. Very strict with grading. Gives little time for assignments and is confusing when explaining them. Self absorbed and continually talks about her achievements rather than actually teaching students.
Reads straight out of her notes; doesn't make it interesting and expects you to know it all for tests, even though once she leaves her little paper, she forgets what she was talking about. Makes you write useless journals where you don't really learn; most people do them for the points. Talks too much and shows off about her irrelevant adventures.
Teacher expects a lot of work weekly (useless work). It gets hard at times b/c you have a lot of other requirements as well. Shes very uptight and tough acting at 1st. Mellows out and starts to joke eventually. The actual material she's teaching is a total joke. Its hard to learn b/c its all just B.S. That's why she sets the class up the way it is.
AVOID! she gives a bunch of useless HW. Does not teach, all she does is talk about herself. No study guides hard exams. without the book you will fail. you have to teach yourself, she thinks her class is the only class everyone takes. NOT PROFESSOR MATERIAL. And she gives a research paper thinking we are freakin grad students WERE UNDERGRAD!
the workload was somewhat interesting, the difficult part was the weird exams and the hard grading on the paper, more because its only worth 10 pts out of 100 pts possible.
This class was difficult, but well worth the effort. The information she lectures on is right out of the book so it is easy to follow and not fall behind. This woman is obsessed with herself. Constantly talks about herself and her past experiences. Spends a lot of time criticizing students because she is insecure about herself. Lots of busy work, but if you do it you will pass the class. Read the book and do the work, but avoid her if you can. Worst professor I've had in 4 years at CSULB.
Should be fired! This woman has no business being a teacher. She knows her stuff & I'm sure she could be useful somewhere but don't give her any authority b/c she loves a power trip. Probably b/c she's really hung up on being a minority. Avoid her class @ all costs!

This woman is such a bad professor, I don't see how she still has a job. She lives in some other world. Expects things but is incapable of accurately explaining them. You are doomed as far as I can tell. I've had straight A's for 2.5 years. I tried VERY hard to please this woman but I could only pull a C. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!
i'm a guy who was really hesitant to take this class because of all the bad comments. This class is just like any other, do the work, show up, study, easy B. I got an A so iono what u guys are talking bout. If u are confused, email her or talk to her after class, or even set up an appointment.. she's willing to help
Please PLEASE Stay away from this professor. She gives USELESS hw! She isn't clear on what she wants on her paper! She gave me a FAIL when my overall GPA at school is 3.8. I worked extremely hard in this class! She is obsessed with herself! She talks about how she had it hard because she was a minority.... blah blah blah blah
In four years of college, this was the worst teacher I have encountered. She is a prime example of someone that should not be teaching. There is absolutely NO positive thing I can think of to say about this teacher. This class WILL lower your GPA.

Try to avoid this teacher. There's only 100 points possible so if you screw up an exam, you'll probably fail. She doesn't give a study guide, so you basically have to all the material. 2 exams, 5 points attendance, research paper, and hw. You can only miss 2 days or you dont get participation points-participation in class is mandatory!!!
She is very intense. The amount of work is not crazy but you do have weekly assignments. She requires that everyone talks in class and there are 2 group presentations. If another teacher is teaching this class, I would suggest taking them.
avoid her at any cost. she push students a lot to talk about the assigments. every week have to write 3 one to two pages essay. there are only two tests. she is show off only because she has a doctorate and her adventures in vietnam or whatever she is from.
She really does mean well, she's just intense. She's super smart and she must have revised her syllabus because it's really not much work at all. She wants you to participate and interact and anything you say is probably somewhat correct in this class so don't be afraid to just speak up, she'll absolutely love you for it.
Your grade is based on 2 exams, attendance, a huge research paper (worth 30% of final grade!), and a presentation of your research to the class. Dr. Nou is an expert in her subject, but can be a little ambiguous when it comes to explaining the research paper. She gives you study questions for each chapter; review those thoroughly for the tests!!
Don't take her if you have the choice. Horrible teacher..You teach yourself. Must know the WHOLE book for the final. Get practical. Everyone agrees that she is bad. Seems like she has a passion for the subject, but doesn't know how to teach.

This class is like all of the other upper division classes! In order for you to pass you have to read and study! for those that think it's a hard class, its b/c you're used to having easy professors that dont care. Its definately not an easy A.
I come on here for entertainment, esp around finals week, when bitter students who are failing classes come on here to knock their profs. Has it ever occurred to you that if you put in as much effort as you do to making unfounded and inaccurate statements about your profs--some quite libelous too--that you might actually PASS your classes?

She really wants you to pass. she gives you all the tools you need and its up to you if you want to put in the work or not. i'm pretty dumb and i passed her class. all you have to do is do all your homework and go to class. there are only two written assignment and and two test. an a weekly homework assignment

Great professor. If you don't get an A or B in the class, it is your fault. She provided a non-mandatory practice quiz for each chapter (and those questions would sometimes pop up on the tests). Also, you had to do a weekly (easy) assignment, so it forces you to stay on top of the readings. She is also interesting, I recommend her.
This professor is GOOD!!! She is extremely helpful and has a lot of passion for the subject and the students. The course material can be a little overwhelming at first but she makes it easy for you to pass and understand! Thanks Dr. Nou!

She was a great professor. This was actually one of my hardest classes and still got an A. Shes straight forward. Her class is more of understanding the information rather than memorizing terms and paper I recommend use her office hours to get your paper reviewed. I learned alot personally from this class and attained some great knowledge :)
She is pleasant enough, but not very clear on instructions. She wants to make it very clear how smart she is, I got tired of hearing about it. The class is not impossible, but I won't take her again.
Very straightforward professor. Seems a little judgmental and often spoke of her intelligence. Started to seem like bragging. She could use a little more organizational skills. Attendance counts towards grades. Everyone presents with a group. Not an easy A or "not a walk in the park."
Dr. Nou is very proud of her accomplishments, and loves to talk about them. The book is necessary Chapter questions as homework. She grades by completion, but still try to do your best. Attendance is a MUST. Easy class if you put in effort and follow her clearly laid out rules.Have her review Research Paper. She expects "ivy league quality".

Dr. Nou is a great teacher, she really wants you to participate and reflect in your life with what you are learning. There are weekly assignments based on the reading so make sure to read. She is always at her office hours and willing to talk to anyone who comes in. Her lectures are standard and online. Do the work and you can pass the class.

The material is naturally interesting, but she also makes it fun. She asks engaging questions. Weekly assignments help reinforce material as well as 1 group project. Highly recommend her!
This class is challenging, but totally worth it, because you'll learn cool concepts that are actually relevant to your life. It requires hard work and consistency. You will enjoy the discussions; put effort into your project!

She's really nice. But she's a terrible presenter. Reads off her slides, stutters alot, and doesn't know the material. Every other class students present the same material she previously lectured on. Listening to the same material twice makes class a drag. Memorize a million terms and use the thinkspot practice quizzes for the test. Attendance!
Dr. Nou is not a terrible professor but she seems really distracted. There is homework every week which is worth 1 point and never gives you any feedback on it. She calls people out on attendance or homework quite often. The entire class is on a 100 point scale. Her quizes and exams consist of term memorization. Easy A.
MUST ATTEND CLASS AND MUST TURN IN (easy) WEEKLY HOMEWORK. She is a pretty good professor, she cares about her students, and she really wants everyone to pass. The best thing to do if you want an A is to quiz yourself on the online e book (thinkspot2) and quiz yourselves a couple weeks before any test. It is easy to get an A if you try.
Showing up to class is mandatory. 3 quizzes on vocabulary, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group presentation project, and 1 experiential essay. Lectures for one day and a group presents on the same chapter the next day. Let's us out early 15 minutes every time. Overall an OK class. Just do your work and you'll be fine.

She is a very good professor,and she requires high quality work. She gives 3 essay exams, group project and a paper(etc).Her requirements are clearly labeled in the syllabus,so if you follow them you will be fine. I advise you to meet with her before assignments are due,so she can review them and give her feedback.
There are 3 essay question exams (she usually gives 6 questions; however, students are allowed to select 4 to answer), a group presentation, a 10 page research paper. Her tests are not difficult and are not based on your understanding of the course but simply how well you memorize the information.

Prof lectures straight from the book. Three exams throughout the semester and questions come straight from chapter reviews on BeachBoard. Exams are essay format and not cumulative. Attendance sheet is passed around daily and counts as 5% of your grade. Group project is simple and doable. Research paper is tough but her expectations are clear.
This professor has the whole class confused all semester long! She is horrible at explaining things her quizzes are absurd! She makes you memorize over 80 term words and chooses only 5 from them (which is ridiculous!) She grades ridiculously harsh without being clear in her papers! Advice, take another professor if possible.
I had to struggle for an A, not necessarily because the material was difficult, but because overall she is EXTREMELY disorganized & unclear on what she wants/expects. There's literally not enough characters for me to explain how sloppy she conducted this course but trust me when I say, please try to take someone else.

Very confusing professor. 2 quizzes on 10 random terms but u have to study like 80 terms for it. 2 exams, 1 presentation, & 1 essay. Exams are ridiculously hard, her directions for her essay was confusing. She doesn't upload her lectures anywhere. Attendance counts every class. She's a very confusing professor. A professor that encourages memorization rather than interpretation. The 3 exams were based on memorization questions. I had to force myself to really memorize the terms, wasn't clear on the 10 page Medical paper we were assigned to do. She dislikes stopping her lecture to answer questions, and she carries a star wars mug. Tough professor!
She is a great lecturer because she applied many concepts to current situations, but she is one tough grader. There are 2 vocab quizzes (10 terms), one group presentation, one term paper, and two exams (one midterm and one final). Her instructions are a little confusing, but she is willing to clarify them. Attendance matters and be ready to read.
She's nice, but her class is kind of boring. Lectures are not posted online, and there's a sign-in sheet every day. Her requirements for assignments are not always clear, and tests/quizzes require a lot of vocab memorization. Getting an A in this class is not impossible, but I wouldn't recommend her.

There is a lot of reading!! If you do not read all the readings you will be behind on the big assignments. If you do not work I suggest you take this class, otherwise it will be difficult to be on track. Overall it was a really interesting class I loved the topic but it was just too much reading and writing.
she gives good feedback and doesnt seem to grade that harshly. as long as you follow her guidelines and apply the feedback you should be good on hw. the only bad thing is her weighting system. hw assignments are literally worth 1, quizzes are worth 3, and the midterm/final are each 30, the midterm/final basically decide your grade
She gives good feedback on work. Completing the weekly assignments are only way you are going to pass as well as doing good on the quizzes and exams. Ask for clarification in the beginning on weekly assignments because if you need every point. No projects! You also NEED your book for every assignment.
Let me tell you, this professor doesnt care about their students. Before the semester even starts she judges the students by what year theyre in and if theyre capable of taking the class. Although i didnt get the chance to be in her class cause she dropped me, I think I dodged a bullet! Id rather spend my semester with a professor who cares!
I chose to go to an early morning in-person class over her online course. Which should tell you everything you need to know about whether or not you should brave her class. She tells you right off the bat that this class is going to be tough but I feel like she makes it tougher than it should be. Lots of homework weekly for just 1 point? Pass.
This class was very passable only if you are willing to really do the work, because there is A LOT of homework that can get overwhelming. Weekly discussion posts, quizzes, and 1-2 papers on the chapter and the readings. Her grading system is tough because assignments are literally worth one point, so you have to do them all. Be willing to WORK!
professor's grade leveling makes it impossible to pass the class without doing good the exams. harsh grader as well. this course had all quizzes in T/F format while midterm and final exams were multiple-choice answers. No practice tests were given out either to prepare for these exams. definitely not take it online at least, maybe in person is ok
Means well, but unless you have a photographic memory the exams (midterms and final) are extremely hard to pass. The questions are taken straight out of the textbook and sometimes have no relevance to the key concepts of the class. I felt like I learned a lot but my grade didn't reflect that.
I definitely would not take her if you have more than 3 classes. Her grading system makes it so that even if you do well on the assignments you can still fail if you don't do well on the exams. The exams are recorded with Lockdown Browser and you can't use notes or the book. She made the class more difficult than it needed to be.
Did not listen to my suggestions to help aid in providing a better course experience. Most difficult class to pass out of all professors ever taken. Unnecessarily harsh restrictions. Uses Lockdown browser. Tests on trivial details off main topics, making it insanely difficult. Passing will be based on how well you test. Just choose another class.
She didn't even let me take the class...I was warned to drop her class because I was a sophomore, and I would fail because other students in my grade have failed. And then she dropped me from the course since I didn't do it myself...You would think professors aren't supposed to generalize their students. She probably shouldn't discourage students.

She gives a study guide so we can follow through with the chapters but the study guide is nothing like the exams or quizzes. She does lectures one day then the next day is a student presentation. She expects a lot from students although she doesn't explain. I would suggest taking another professor because her class is challenging.
I've been waiting for this since the semester began. Do not, I repeat DO NOT TAKE HER. All her assignments are basically worth nothing and they are extremely long. The quizzes and exams have nothing to do with the assignments given. She makes you use lockdown browser for quizzes that are worth 2 points. Do yourself a favor steer clear
I don't know how this lady calls herself an educator. All of her classes are still open. 1 week of instruction, she encourages students to dis-enroll themselves from her class because starting late is "confusing" to her. She has more than 5 openings in a 30-person class. Way to uphold the mission and vision of the university.
DON'T EVER TAKE HER COURSES. She accused me of plagiarism when I've NEVER done that in my life. She offers absolutely no help to struggling students. SOC462 is online, and 50% of the entire course is determined by two tests (midterm and final). One small screw up in either of those tests, and the only thing you can do is pray that you pass.

Worst professor that I've ever had. Your grade heavily depends on the exams that is 50% of your grade and the quizzes that is 24%. Mess up on one and you basically fail which sucks considering the homework has nothing to do her unpredictable questions. Requires LockDown browser with WebCam. Lots of homework yet not worth it for low points.
Worst professor ever. The exams are worth your grade, if you fail you're basically done. I had to drop the course after being accused of plagiarism and taking the midterm with questions that were either irrelevant to what we discussed or had nothing to do with at all! After contacting her, we went back-and-forth and she's honestly a smart Alec.
She isn't helpful, you ask for tips and she just tells you to reread the chapters until you memorize it. You reach out to her on the weekends and she's pretty much rude about it. You only get extra credit on the exams but you have to remember stuff straight out of the textbook. Her study guide and lectures are useless. I do NOT recommend her.
Overall you do learn some things but it's not like you really need it yk. It's a test and quiz heavy grade book leaving little to no room to raise your grade if you do bad on exams. The exams made no sense even if you studied all the material very well too, where is the connection? I literally don't know, save yourself don't take
Long Beach needs better options when choosing professors. Finished my first year here at CSULB and would say I have respect for every other professor I took except for this specific professor, and I have my reasons. Dr. Nou makes passing this class so hard for no absolute reason. Don't even bother asking her for help, she'll give attitude.
Glad i won't have to deal with this professor again. She puts more effort into wanting to see students fail than to learn and succeed in her class.
Worst professor I have ever had in my academic career. If you miss even one quiz that is only worth 3 points, then you will fail. Her tests have nothing to do with the assignments. Majority of peers failed as well as I. She is extremely rude and will say she never makes mistakes and that is it the students fault for failing. And no Day1 textbooks.
You can do so much work for this class but if you get a C on a test. You've failed. This teacher should be a middle school teacher, not a CSU teacher at all. She wants students to do all the work and for her to teach nothing. The class has to memorize the whole textbook in order to get what she wants. Worst professor ever. Do not take this class!!!
I can't believe this professor's even employed at a CSU. She's the worst ever and enjoys making the class as difficult as possible. This class should be a 400 class with all the work she gives. NEVER take her under any circumstances. The textbook isn't even under Day1 & she doesn't care. She's willing to argue with students rather than teach them.
