Wow.. this class was the hardest class ever! so much material, so much work. This class was such a mistake. Honestly with the amount of work that one has to put in this class should be worth 6 credits.
This class was really hard! There was way too much work and he is a really hard marker! He is a good teacher but the class should have been worth 6 credits not 3.
Great teacher but extremely hard classes. You can get a lot from his courses but unless you have no job, life or other classes, don't expect an A.
The only reason I didn't drop it was so I could have a reason to stare into those beautiful blue eyes!! Also really an expert in his field, very intelligent.
He's really smart, but thinks that this is the only class we have. TOO MUCH WORK, not worth working so hard for like a B, which is the highest he gives you unless your hot and gay!
what is it with young professors and excessive work loads?
I expected African Politics to be tough, but given the subject matter, he made the class THAT much more easier to understand. Very clear, organized in his lectures, and very fair. Helps that he's easy on the eyes too...I'd take another class with him, definitely.
Prof Schneider is a great teacher! He is EXTREMELY intelligent & can seem intimidating but is really nice and approachable, u never need to worry he explains until you understand But if u are not prepared to do the work don't bother taking him u will not be happy. And I have to add...quite dreamy ;)
Smart, dedicated & a really nice guy! An expert!Take him if you want to learn! Also quite handsome! Will miss seeing him on his bike...in the snow! If you ever read this 'LS'- Please wear a helmet, I am concerned!! Great class, well done! Thanks and Have a great day!:)
hate him
He is an extremely tough marker. Don't get fooled by his modified grading system. It means nothing. I have never had such a hard course before. There is so much reading. However, he is a good teacher and knows his material very well.
Very helpful, really kind but a very hard marker. Be prepared for ALOT of readings.
This guy is way too tough for an intro class. Maybe he's great in third year classes but for first year he too much; too much work, too many readings, and a HARD marker
Great prof. Love the academic and clinical tone of the lectures. Free from the pop-culture ideology that often accompanies comparative politics classes. Workload was big but manageable. Very interesting and eloquent lectures.
Not good for an intro class. Sneaky with giving marks (or not). Watch out for him.
He is an excellent teacher. I never thought one could learn as much within one semester. I encourage anyone that take his class to pay attention to his feedback (which is extensive). I didn't do that enough but they are really on-point and could make the difference between a good grade and an outstanding one. Enjoy the class!
Absolutely hated him...at first....then absolutely loved him after i started getting into the material..he's a really good professor and i can gurantee you that this is one of those classes you will come out of with so much knowledge...
get ready to work A LOT. Workload is craezy but yu will learn SO MUCH. Plus he's the jottest poli sci prof. I've had, if he wasn't my prof. I would totally hit on him!!
Schneider is a great teacher.Very approachable and will take the time to answer any question you might have after class or during office hours. He does require a lot of work though, and his exams can be a tad difficult.Other than that, he is very good at preparing you to write Term Papers if this is your first Political Science class.Funny guy too
Best prof in the poli.sci dept. His classes may be hard, but you will NEVER learn as much as you do in his classes. Ive taken two classes with him and here's my advice; DO THE READINGS, show up to class, and really pay attention to his feedback on your writing. Do these three things, and you'll do well. Otherwise forget it.
unless you wanna work your *** off, then dont take him. I am very dedicated to university but 5 papers a midterm and a final is wayy too much for this class. He expects detail in everything and he tells you what will be on the final and midterm, then shows up with diff. questions! Avoid unless you wanna bad grade!
Took POLI366 and 487A. As far as undergrad classes go, Leander offers very challenging material and encourages students to think critically and form their own opinions. He was the first prof to clearly lay out his academic demands that I had ever had. He was warm and friendly and treated each student as an individual. One of my favorite profs ever.
too hard. I hand it papers in which i think are atleast worth a b to b+ and i get a d on them. Seriously, dont take him, sure hes a nice person, but his explanations are messy, his tests are opposite of what he tells you, and the work load is ridonculous.
Worst course in the department, he designed the course and takes it way too seriously. His assignments are extremely unclear and tedious. Avoid if you can!
AVOID!!! Assignments are so unclear you will spend have the time just figuring out what he wants you to do. He takes this class way too seriously. By far the worst class in all of Poli Sci department and probably worst class I have ever taken in University. He sent half the class to the dean because of so called plagiarism. AGAIN AVOID !!
POLI 207 is the worst course in political science at Concordia. To make matters worse, Prof Schneider makes it extremely difficult with a constant stream of ambiguous and tedious assignments. The course lectures are irrelevant to the course work and are long and boring for no apparent reason. This course with this prof will drive you crazy.
Great Prof, very helpful. You must meet him half way though, be prepared to work. If you are, you will get a lot out of this course
Really makes you work for the marks. Long tests. But is thorough in lectures. Heavily textbook based.
This is the class I learned the most from in my 3 years at Concordia. Get ready to work a lot and you will walk away from this class so much smarter! He knows his material very well and teaches with a passion. Gives you the tools to critically think. Well worth my time and money. Don't miss classes, read ahead and you will do well.
Very good prof. Attend his classes he does NOT post lectures on Moodle. His interest is Politics of Africa so term paper will be about African Politics. He's nice about it he makes you do a draft copy and grades it. Final exam in class rather then in Dec. or May
Easily one of the best classes I've taken at Concordia so far. There's a lot of work and reading, and if you don't feel like putting in the work you won't do that well. Its a large work load but if you keep up with it, it really engages you and skyrocketed my interest in African poli. Prof is great and very helpful, but you NEED to attend lectures.
Very hard marker, work load is insane and gives you zero time to write his mini quizzes. Didn't pass me even though I had 49%. Watch out for him.
He's a nice guy in all but his class is hard. However if you read the book and attend the class you will e fine.
Highly do not recommend this teacher, especially if you choose to take it as an elective as in my case. Even after attending every class and spending hours reading the textbook, got a D+. Very hard marker, barely any time to do mini quizzes, and final essay is super hard. Never taking a poli elective after this class
Nice guy and good prof. He is clear and supportive, even though his class requires a fairly big amount of work. He chose a very interesting research paper topic on African Politics. He'll give you the tools to improve throughout the semester.
He gives hardly anytime for the pop quizzes, you have 5 minutes or less to complete them. He provides the term paper essay topic, and allows you to draft and finalize it, which is good. The class average was poor, he even admitted to curving grades. Overall the class average at the end was bad. I can't recommend Leander, avoid if possible!
Looking back, it was a good class. Do the reading, heavily textbook based. If you like African politics take him because more then likely that will be the term paper, See him in his office, if you need to, he's approachable. Don't skip class doesn't post on moodle.
Schneider is one of the best profs I've had at Concordia. If you're interested in domestic politics, African politics, he's your guy. He's passionate, intelligent and clear in lectures. Basically, don't skip class, do your readings, and you'll be fine.
Dr. Schneider is a very challenging professor. He expects a lot from his students and he is sometimes difficult to understand. You can tell he is extremely knowledgeable but sometimes it does not translate well. He is a tough grader! But he gives good feedback and is always willing to help. Still, very hard class for an intro class.
Great teacher! Some of the questions of the midterms are really specific, but if you go to class and read the assigned chapters you will do great. He helps you through the entire paper, therefore, you do not get surprised with a random mark. Just do the readings :)
This class in general is very interesting. Dr. Schneider have high expectation of his students and wait for high precision. Knowing the subject concern for any works isn't sufficient, needs to be particularly knowledgeable.
he's not a bad teacher, his lectures are interesting and full of information however he is a very tough grader. it's important to do all the assigned readings before class because his quizzes are detailed and random. I worked hard for this class, did all the readings and visited him during office hours, but finished with a D+. I do not recommend.
Extremely dynamic and passionate speaker during his lectures which keeps your interest peaked. He presents the material in a very straightforward manner and the readings are very simple. He's also extremely compassionate and gives it his all during office hours to help his students through and spends time making sure everyone is on the right path.
Mr. Schneider is an amazing teacher. Really passionate with his subject and knows what he's doing. However, he is a tough grader especially for papers and midterms and gives a huge amount of readings to do. A Huge amount !! Be prepared to work your ass off ! His midterms are really hard and specific ! But the class is amazing !
He gives good lectures but ultimately what irked me was his attitude. Having gone to see him a few times during his office hours, he was a bit standoffish and exacting in an obnoxious way. A superiority complex is perhaps an exaggeration, but only a slight one. Friends have also found him snobbish and unhelpful when asking him questions.
He's definitely knows his stuff when it comes to the course material but he is an extremely tough grader. The pop quizzes are short, tough and the questions are extremely random. Mid-term and final are easy, but the paper is harshly graded
Really good Prof! He is understanding and makes sure everyone understands the lectures. The pop quizzes are on the readings assigned, there's not that many quizzes, you are allowed to have your notes and he drops the lowest grade - it's actually a good way to get more marks if you do the readings and get the bonus point on the quiz! Loved the class
Amazing class, very interesting and would definitely take again. A lot of readings to do, but it's way worth it if you want to actually understand African politics. The lectures are organized and Professor Schneider makes the material easy to understand. Quizzes are a nice way to get a better grade if you do the readings.
This guy is the real deal. he makes you read a lot, but its because most people don't know much about Africa at all. It is super interesting, but very dense. He expects about 1.5x the work of most classes, but i would say you learn 2x as much. He makes other professors look like amateurs. He is a superstar teacher; studied in Tanzania
You definitely have to work for this class, but everything you do pays off and Schneider teaches you valuable skills (especially in making corrections to your paper for you!!). He was my favourite prof thus far at Concordia. Do the readings, study for midterms, write a solid paper. He mainly just cares about a strong and genuine effort. Take him!
Respectful! Cares about his students. BUT definitely need to work, read, and pay attention in class.
I can only for his politics of Africa course. Very possibly the only politics course you ever need to take. Very personable. The course teaches how to become a better reading and writer of political literature. Furthermore, by examining African examples all systems of government, even those found outside of African countries, become crystal clear.
He is very specific on how he wants things done.
A lot of readings, weekly pop quiz, mid term was fair but final was horrible. The TA and himself are harsh graders, he picks on the smallest details. Hard to pull off an A
Get ready to read and you better do, if you want to pass the in-class quizzes. We had 5 of those across the semester and you can access your reading notes during the quiz. Definitely a hard class, but very rewarding. If you are looking for an easy intro class, consider another professor. Midterm and final were average in difficulty.
Very tough grader. A lot of readings to do. Most importantly, beware of the midterm and of the final. They are composed of two parts: definitions and essay. The definitions are super hard.
He is a really nice, genuine person. His class is easy to follow but my tip is to write down the examples he uses to explain different political phenomena - they usually relate to the questions on the tests. If you do notes for the readings he lets you use those notes for the pop quizzes. Stay on top of the readings and lectures & youll be good!
Although the material was very interesting and he wants you to learn, there were too many readings and nearly impossible to miss class because of the surprise quizzes throughout the semester. If you want to learn, take his classes but be ready to read. It seems as if he doesn't care that we have other readings. Also, be sure to be specific in exams
Pop quizzes, loads of papers, it's the full package, he makes you work HARD. But I believe it's worth the trouble, I've learned the most from this prof, not only regarding class material but he also tough us how to properly write papers. He gives a disclaimer on the first day of class that it's very hard, so if you stay it's your responsibility.
I have taken him twice, he is amazing because he is somewhat hard to please. He will make you work for your grades but the information given is extremely rewarding. Just do your work and the effort will show. Definitely a Concordia prof that I will never forget. Very well versed in African politics. Highly recommend if that's your cup of tea.
He's very demanding and wants you to follow instructions as precisely as he writes them. He gives a lot of feedback and is very helpful in office hours. Online lectures have been live, which gives structure to confinement. The readings are interesting and force you to engage. Heknows his stuff well and will teach you a lot. Will definitely take agn
He's great when it comes to covering material- quizzes are tough, but you learn. His biggest issue: he will often only explain what he wants from an assignment AFTER you've handed it in. It seems the more weight an assignment is given, the fewer instructions and detail he gives. Probably one of the hardest profs i've ever had for this reason.
Look, he makes you work for it, and it is worth it. I had lots of anxiety when I started his class and thought I would fail but I lifted my grades the last month to a B. He is informative, to the point and gives you the essential tools needed not only for his class but for your future courses. It's easy but you need to show you are willing.
Incoherent teaching style; goes off tangent a lot and takes forever to make a point. Also, inconsiderate and little knowledge using online technology.
He could've been a lot easier for an intro class and since it was online he could of been a little understanding but no he expects you to do LOTS OF WORK so do not take him if you have other hard classes because he will make it miserable
He cares about his students. He notices when students make the effort to ask questions. His assignments are difficult, but he gives helpful feedbacks. Heavy readings from the textbook and articles, but very insightful. His intention of giving out pop-quizzes is understandable, but it is annoying. The class is hard, but you definitely learn a lot.
One of my favourite professors at Concordia. He will challenge you, but you will actually get a lot out of the class. He teaches in a thought-provoking way and encourages students to make their own connections between material. He makes you work for the A but its worth it!
You will learn in his class about complicated issues. However, this requires you to put in the effort if you want a good grade
You learn a lot, but he is an extremely tough grader, and the questions for pop quizzes were crazy specific. A class average of 1.49 is not worth it.
Lectures are hard to follow and notes extremely unclear. Extremely long readings assigned twice per week.
Good professor. You will have to do a lot of reading and get ready to every class for a pop quiz.
Active professor. Do the readings, listen well in class and you will do well in exams and popquizes. Study well your notes for exams. Go to office hours for advice and you'll get all the help u need
Tough grader, doesn't take time to explain the slides (which he doesn't post), drowning in theories during the lectures and not many examples used to help provide context.
Extremely rude and dishonest
Very unclear with Instructions
Difficult to follow lectures, quite boring actually. Also wish that we did more assignments focusing on more than the one research project of electoral systems.
Professor is strict with work and this is an introductory class for poli sci students yet makes it wayyy harder than it needs to be
I would honestly look at other professors like any other professor is better than this guy idk how he even has a phd
The worst professor I've ever had in my life and I'm not even exaggerating. I don't mean to be mean I'm just stating it as a fact it was easily the worst
To save you a lot of mental stress especially as a first year student please avoid taking this professor its not worth it
Get ready for pop quizzes, tons of readings in the textbook, and super boring lectures. He has extremely complicated explanations and instructions, and how he teaches the class is awful. He stutters and jumps from one idea to another. Not to mention, the course outline and the instructions for the assignments were a puzzle to understand. Stay Away
The pop quizzes were just unnecessary there are much better ways to grade us. The only class I've taken that has this
You just have to take notes on everything, and the questions on his test are easy BUT the grading is super strict. He wants REALLY specific answers about stuff he said one time for 2 minutes so PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS
Avoid this teacher if you can! He gives surprise quizzes, very unclear assignments, and is unhelpful during office hours. Grading is harsh and he doesn't post slides. Beware of potential academic misconduct issues!!!
His so hard to learn from I switched classes and very rude, I don't recommend taking him this semester
Was my first teacher in Poli sci and I really enjoyed his course, he is passionate and makes the lectures interesting. You can get good grades so easily and his quizzes aren't even hard. I would have had a better grade if I put more effort for my mid-term but anyways. Really great teacher, would take him again.
Worst teacher I had in my life !!!! DON'T EVER TAKE HIS CLASS !! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE !
Just take another profs class girlies trust me
if you want to feel dumb take the course (this prof is rude no compassion and will make you feel extremely uncomfortable in class) be aware for POTENTIAL ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT issues PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF
Great teacher. Be up to date on the readings, follow and take notes during the lectures and you will do good. If you are actually there to learn, this is the right teacher.
Never ever take this professor, worst experience of my life
On god bro all these 5 and 4 stars are fake, this guy is not nice whatsoever and will make it his life mission to never be nice
I should've gotten an A, idk how he grades his assignments but there's no way this guy has a rating of 3, it should be lower than 2 at least
Thank god this semester is over. i thought this was an easy class...apparently it most definitely is not
I took him for POLI 437 African Development, and he was rlly pookie. He is very passionate abt this subject. The class discussions are nice (+mandatory), he is a good grader, he rlly engages w/ what u write and tries to understand u as a student. There is a lot of reading and if u don't keep up u will not enjoy / do well in the class.
Professor kept looking at me in really weird ways, made me feel really uncomfortable, especially when I had to go to his office hours he did not look me in the eye at all. He was nice with grading and his classes were alright.
Pop quizzes were horrible and the professor can be sketchy. Stared at my friend a lot
Not my best professor by far, made a lot of comments to us when we'd ask questions and acted too friendly but not like good friendly.
This semester was absolutely awful
Ong those pop quizzes are absolute nightmares in his other classes and this one it was just really boring and lots of work for no reason. This professor is clearly one who was bullied when he was younger and uses his power to bully others when he can. I hope your life gets brighter and better sir
It's a 400-level class if you don't wanna work for your grade- don't bother. If you genuinely want to learn, Schneider is the best way to go. He is a tough grader and his seminar classes are a tad confusing but if you put in the work he will help you out and give you the keys to pass. He's a standup guy, do the work and you'll do great
The professor really knows what his doing and I honestly liked him but omg. Brother if u wanna grade so harshly and be so intensive do it for a higher class not an intro one. like second semester with this dude. absolutely horrible i got cooked
I had better work than my friend but my friend always talks to this professor and asks questions so he got a way better grade than me and he even admitted that my writing and topic was better.
Haha I bombed this class. Blame it on the prof tho so boring
Horrible. Unfair and doesn't even teach well. Would never want to have him or anyone like him again.
Not a good teacher at all
Just not good at teaching and reads off notes or slides, nothing comes from the heart
Terribly boring lectures with concepts worded in the most complicated way possible, i felt like it was unorganized, but that also could have been due to a class being cancelled due to a strike.
fddddddddddd
I don't doubt that he knows his stuff and his knowledgeable. He clearly knows his history inside out which is great but his teaching and communication skills are not up to par whatsoever, I felt like I gained nothing going to every lecture day in and day out and had to do a lot of my learning and stuff on my own, instructions and tests very unclear
Readings and lectures contain same info, sometimes word-for-word. Ensures attendance and reading by sporadically having pop quizzes at the beginning of lectures on the readings, despite following this up by lecturing on exactly what the reading covered.
